Do you hate me with Wilford and Abe or I'm just looking out for you with Yancy and Murdock would be cool if you're down
Prompt: “Do you hate me?”
Now that Abe wasn’t actively trying to find him, Wilford seemed to appear everywhere: already draped over his office chair when he came into work, the door still locked and seemingly untampered with; in the background of his favorite noir film, a flash of neon pink in the gray;  at the bar he frequented on gloomy, lonely nights, mixing up brightly-colored cocktails.
“We’re friends now, and friends hang out.” He said, answering a question Abe didn’t ask. Then he placed onto the bar the most intricate drink Abe had ever seen– Abe would taste it a few minutes later, when Wilford turned his back, and it’d be the best cocktail he’d ever had, a welcome reprieve to whiskey straight– and stepping back to scrutinize him, his thick, dark brows furrowing. “Unless you hate me.” A pause. “Do you hate me?”
Abe sat back, genuinely unsure. He’d never thought past their roles of hunter and prey, detective and criminal. William Jackson Barnum was a murderer, nothing more, nothing less.
In the decades he’d spent immersing himself in the case and living its facts, it had never occurred to him that William might’ve been a victim, too.
He looked at Wilford, who had visibly wilted in the time it had taken him to answer, for what felt like the very first time. “No,” he said reluctantly. “I don’t hate you.”
Wilford brightened, a childishly happy grin spreading across his face. “Best friends, then!” He declared, spinning on one pink high heel with a flourish and heading back toward the bar. He stopped once to cast a glance over his shoulder that made Abe blush from his head to his toes. "Enjoy your drink," he said with a wink, "it's on the house."

DOSSIER CHEAT SHEET
-
Tumblr media
LEGAL NAME: Colonel William Jackson Barnum
NICKNAME[S]: Colonel, Will, Young Barnum, Private, Balai (‘Broom’ in French)
DATE OF BIRTH: June 14th, 1897 (implied to be 28 by time of W.KM)
GENDER: Male
PLACE OF BIRTH: Unspecified. Implied to be in the state of California.
CURRENTLY LIVING: A small cottage near the edge of the city, but in walking distance (by William's standards) to both the Manor and the barracks.
SPOKEN LANGUAGES: English (also REALLY bad French. Do not believe him if he says he's fluent)
EDUCATION: Academically, he dropped out of high school at 16 and apprenticed as a handyman under his father. He is a fully trained soldier.
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown/black
EYE COLOR: Brown
HEIGHT: 6 foot 3 inches
WEIGHT: I have no idea. I've never looked this up, and I'm not going to look into it now. I'm going to guess somewhere between 190 - 200 lbs.
-
FAMILY INFORMATION
Reminder: This is not taking into account the scenario of Mark and William being genetically related that blogs may have for their own lore. This will all be disregarded in those cases and I will adjust if needed.
SIBLING[S]: He was the youngest of six. He has three older brothers - Johnny, Ernest, and Harvey - and two older sisters - Lizzie and Annie.
PARENT[S]: Frank and Minnie Barnum
RELATIVE[S]: Due to the large age gap between him (twelve years between him and the second youngest), all his older siblings had married by the time he was in high school. Because of this, he was in the strange position of having at least nine nieces or nephews older than him, and three younger than him. And that's not mentioning his aunts and uncles. There's too many to list, but I should remind you that he was named after his uncle due to the miracle of surviving the odds at birth. Also, if one of his parents took a shine to you, you became an honorary Barnum.
CHILDREN: None. While he did have a reputation, back in the day, he was always careful. He could barely look after himself, let alone a whole other person.
PET[S]: None, for the same reason as above.
-
RELATIONSHIP INFORMATION
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual, though depending on the setting it's not something he actively explores.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Single in pretty much every setting. My boy continues my notorious bad luck with ships. But he's also a homewrecker so he doesn't deserve happiness :D

tagged by: @pinkxtrauma
tagging: I'll be honest, I'm not in the headspace to start trying to think of tagging people. So go for it, if you want.

52. "Are you going to talk to me?" With Dilliam? Perhaps during wkm when William won't talk about marks death and avoids conversation, but Damien sweet talks him into talking.

Prompt 52: “Are you going to talk to me?”
The grandfather clock in the hallway had just chimed midnight when the door opened and Damien blew in, raking one hand through hair already mussed by wind and time as he struggled to shove a bundle of papers back into his satchel.
“Oh! Dames!” William abandoned his wine at the table and got up, hurrying to help him. “You’re- you’re home.”
“Not for long,” Damien breathed, relinquishing his papers and satchel to William and his overcoat to Benjamin before reaching to William once more for his things. “I forgot some important paperwork in the study. I must retrieve it before returning to City Hall.”
He started down the hallway, scuffed shoes clicking over worn, wooden boards, leaving the Colonel with nothing to do but to follow. “But Dames,” he protested at Damien’s back, at his slumped shoulders and bedraggled suit, then at his exhausted, purple-ringed eyes when the Mayor twisted to glance at him. “You’ve been gone for… days, now. You need to rest.”
Damien waved him off, but didn’t reply. Merely continued on, his satchel clutched to his chest like its contents were the most important thing in the world.
“Are you going to talk to me?” William demanded, grabbing at his arm and forcing him to stop. “You can’t just ignore me, Dames.”
Damien jerked his arm from William’s grasp, a look of hard fury crossing his face for a single moment before it disappeared, replaced once more by exhaustion and, now, resignation. “Apologies, Will,” he mumbled. “I am just so tired. But there is still so much to be done.”
“I’m sure it can wait until the morning,” William reached for him again, this time taking one of his hands and prying it gently from his satchel, bringing it to his lips for a kiss. “Please come to bed, Dames. You look an utter mess.”
“I feel an utter mess,” the Mayor admitted, smiling a tired smile when William squeezed his hand and turned, pulling him in the direction of the stairs.

Fun fact! Wilf's legal name isn't Wilford Motherloving Warfstache! It's not William J Barnum either.
It's actually Wilson Jackson Bartholomew (the third). The 'third' because this is the second time he's used it (the last time was 'the second'). The case file on this name that Abe lifted was actually for Wilford himself.
(Bear with me. This will make sense soon.)
One of his most prominent "in between" lives was by the name of Wilson Jackson, or just 'Jack' for short. He married into the Bartholomew family, thus earning that as his surname. This particular life is as important as Will and Wilf for two distinct reasons:
1. It was the only one of the 'in-between lives' (of which there are four key ones and countless others in a blur) that actually had him live a normal life rather than one where he was despised to some extent.
2. It's the first life where he was able to choose his name. More importantly, it's the only alias he has where he didn't go by a "W" name. It's the first time the trend was officially broken.
If you notice Wilford getting a glimpse of a memory, but it doesn't match up with anything that would make sense for the Colonel... Chances are it was for Jack.
If you check who owns the Roller, it's legally under Wilson J Bartholomew III. Not only that, 'Wilson Jackson' is the name he defaults to while hiding in plain sight on the Invincible II. He pretends to be a janitor that everyone forgot about, and tugs his hair and moustache so they both turn black and draw a little less attention to him.
-
So, to quickly recap:
Wilson J Bartholomew I (ie 'Jack') is the 'life' where this name was first used. Wilson J Bartholomew II (ie 'Barty') is an alias that Wilf picked up when starting to grow wise to what was going on around him. Wilson J Bartholomew III (ie 'Wilson') is him officially taking on the name and using it for legal purposes (mainly because his employer at the nameless bar that Abe eventually find him at told him that the name Wilf was using on a day-to-day basis was one that no lawyer or cop would ever believe).

Ok I haven't seen anyone else address this but
I love that you can see hints of pink at the end of Wilford’s moustache in the video. Like foreshadowing of William truly becoming Wilford
