ngl the biggest piece of bylers doubt i have is the length of s5 itself — the season is only 8 episodes long.
they have to resolve so many plotlines and give every character their arc conclusion. how are they gonna have enough time to implement and write byler properly?
i'm confident about byler in pretty much all other aspects, but TIME is the one thing that makes me doubt myself in terms of belief in byler endgame.
I understand that fear, but I’m not worried about that for three reasons. One, when you look at other ships in the show (Jancy, Lumax, Duzie, even Milkvan), that’s actually the amount of time they’ve had to execute these ships, all while dealing with other plotlines and characters. Jancy and Lumax were built up over the course of S2, and the initial connection between Mike and El was set up in S1 (even if they didn’t start dating until later). With Duzie, we learned that Dustin had a girlfriend in S3, and it was fully believable by the end, even without her being in-person once. ST is a show that leans into interpersonal relationships alongside the supernatural worldbuilding stuff. Eight episodes is actually more than enough time to execute Byler. I mean, two hour movies execute believable romances alongside other storylines from scratch, so why wouldn’t the writers be able to do so here?
Two, all the building blocks are here. The entire history of Mike and Will’s friendship, the painting miscommunication/lie, Mike’s monologue to El, the messy state of Milkvan, being back in Hawkins during the Satanic Panic, Mike promising to be by Will’s side in the apocalypse, and more. They aren’t implementing Byler from scratch, unlike Lumax in S2, even if it seems that way to those who don’t know it’s coming. There’s a lot of raw material to work with. It’s a lot closer to Jopper’s development in S4, which was built on the shoulders of their complicated romantic history. Byler is already in the show. It just hasn’t been consummated yet.
Three, and this is most important, the Duffers have made clear that S5 is Will’s coming-of-age story. The whole show is, really. Of course Stranger Things is an ensemble show. Of course characters like El are still gonna get a lot of screen time in the battle against Vecna (she isn’t beating main character allegations anytime soon, I’m afraid). Of course every character’s story needs to be resolved, and new romances like Rovickie need to be executed as well.
But Will is undeniably gonna be the focus. And if Will is the focus, along with his sexuality, there’s no way Byler won’t be. Byler is not a side story. It’s intertwined with the main themes of the show and with Will’s arc. And we also know that Mike is the heart, and there’s a lot of foreshadowing there. Mike is important in both Will and El’s stories, so this chaotic love triangle WILL be present and central. Even diehard Milkvans have to acknowledge that things simply aren’t resolved. Will hasn’t transparently told Mike how he feels yet. Mike and El still haven’t addressed the monologue. The painting lie has not been addressed. These things are not part of our imagination. They are real, and with Will taking center stage, there’s nothing to fear time-wise.

My favourite Will's arc, which I hope will be repeated in season 5, is mid season 3 after the destruction of castle byers when he was super distant and bitchy, very independent and tough towards his friends. It was so different and I liked seeing him standing up for himself and his feelings. I hope next season not only he becomes an important character who will influence the plot, but also will show more diverse character and stand up for himself. I hope he will fight back, take care of himself and stop sacrificing himself and his feelings for the sake of others. Please, let it be Will's arc next season 🤌🏼

Stranger Things 5 trailer fanmade/concept
Hi guys! I just posted on my YouTube channel a fanmade concept trailer of stranger things season 5! i tried to put emphasis on Will and his connection to Vecna and also intended to make it epic (idk if I succeeded tho lol)
If you could check it out and let me know your thoughts it’d be so cool 💙

interesting and beatiful how will is beginning to be portrayed as sunlight, in stark contrast to the dark depths of the upside down. he’s going to save his family and friends, people will be “running towards the light”, the kid that got taken into a parallel shadow dimension to serve some sort of ill-intended purpose survives and not only that but transforms into quite an antithesis for what the upside down is essentially made of and created from…
also: go through and look at ALL of @dinitride-art ‘s posts about lighting between mikewillel! they’re so good omg

the upside down didn't look like hawkins until will went there. will wanted to go back home. the upside down was shaped like hawkins because will wanted to go back home. will has already shaped the upside down. the upside down is stuck in november 6th, 1983, when will shaped it.
the upside down is frozen in the day that vecna took will. he's given him a power - a connection - to the mindflayer and the upside down itself that will (and us) doesn't fully understand yet. he needed a spy. someone on the other side. he wants will to join him.
Tumblr media
like i've said before, vecna needed someone to control, he needed someone he could relate to, so he could use, manipulate and trick them into doing what he wanted. what i think he didn't realize, is that will might use that connection against him.
will's main connection is to the mindflayer. the monster that gets into people's minds and takes them a spy. vecna took control of the mindflayer. but will was could fight him. he escaped the mindflayer, and communicated with others even when he was possessed.
Tumblr media
we saw in the last episode of s4 that will still has that connection. vecna is calling to him. he's going after him, because he still needs him, and wants to use him. but if will was able to shape the upside down, what if he's also able to take control of a part of it?
why did vecna choose will, of all people? because he knew will's pain, he experienced some of it himself. he understood him. he needed someone like him. vecna took control and shaped the upside down, but he allowed will to reshape it into hawkins. he froze the upside down.
if will has a connection to the upside down that allows him to shape it, then he might have one that lets him control a part of it. his connection to the upside down, the mindflayer, and vecna himself, might be the missing weapon that hawkins needs to defeat the darkness for good.
Tumblr media
vecna wins by getting into people's minds. he uses trauma and pain as a weapon. his power is remote, not physical. the physical power comes from the upside down creatures, and the upside down itself, but not him directly. as long as he's in control of the upside down, he's safe. he's the brain, he controls it. he's shaped it. they can hurt his body, but in order to win they need to kill his brain, so he can't control the upside down anymore. when he lost against el and was sent to the upside down, he had the same (or even less) power than her. he became stronger when he shaped the upside down. he shaped an army.
he's the mind that controls it, and has an army that protects him. the upside down is vecna's shield.
they need to fight him from all fronts. in the upside down, in his lair, they have to attack his body and his mind. but someone needs to take control of a part of the upside down. they need to use his own shield against him.
Tumblr media
someone connected to the upside down needs to fight him. someone who he thought might join him, someone who has a connection to one of the upside down's stronger creatures - the mindflayer. el alone wasn't enough, neither was the hawkins group. what if will is the missing piece?
when the upside down unleashed into hawkins, the four gates lead to a certain point - the hawkins library. the library, where will was found in season one. the upside down is calling to will. will is the missing piece, going full circle, needed to kill vecna.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
full circle to season one, beginning with the ending of season four. the order of the shots of the scenes, specifically, the pairings and the moment in which they show them, is a key detail.
first, eleven.
eleven, who sent vecna to the upside down. who opened the gate. who fought and defeated vecna. who recognized will. who found will. eleven, who started it all with the upside down.
Tumblr media
will and mike come next.
from the very beginning, it was the two of them. "it was a seven", will who was taken to the upside down, mike who knew the road will took, who found el (who ended up finding will), who gave it all to find will, will who was vecna's chosen one, who got possessed by the mindflayer, who started it all. mike who saved will, will who needs mike.
then come jonathan and nancy.
jonathan whose brother went missing, nancy whose best friend died because of the upside down. nancy who went through a gate in season one and then came back to jonathan, and jonathan who knew about the demogorgon and saw him before anyone else.
finally, joyce and hopper.
joyce, who did everything in her power and more to find will, who first discovered the upside down, who was almost taken by it many times. hopper who believed joyce before anyone else did, who went to the upside down and saved will.
Tumblr media
it starts with will, it ends will. the upside down – vecna – needed will to be a spy, to fight, to defeat his world to take control and rule everything and everyone there too.
it took will being taken to the upside down to start everything, it will take will to fight it to end it. it's been about will since the beginning.
will is the missing piece.
the upside down is calling to him, but so is hawkins. they can't win without him. he's the connection they need. there's a part of vecna that remains undefeated that only will can fight. a connection only he has, something only he can control.
it's full circle to him.

will & his queerness
okay yes i’m 100% in favour of seeing mike’s struggle with queerness and watching him reach self-acceptance with will, but s5 better give my boy will some time to talk about his struggle.
like did he fight for years against it? did he try with everything he had in him to disprove what his dad said? what his school bullies said? did he try to conform to what was expected of him? only to return each and every time feeling more and more empty, because it simply wasn’t him? did he always know? did he feel like he’d always be alone? did he accept that he would be? did he ever muster the courage to disprove that but always felt like it was pointless in the end anyway? did he fear losing his friends? did he fear losing mike? did he force himself to try overcome his feelings for mike, only to realise he couldn’t? did he ever hate himself for it? did he ever hate mike for it? did he ever blame him for making him feel this way? did he forgive mike fully for the “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls!” line? did he feel angry? frustrated? doomed? pathetic? helpless?
like it was hard enough to accept who i was at 16 in 2020, let alone will byers accepting who he is at like 14 in 1985 — accepted himself enough to the point he painted his crush and slapped a big red heart right over his coat of arms.

LOVE MY MAIN CHARACTER

I do not know what is up with R3ddit but guys out there literally think the duffers are just going to give Will a background love interest in S5 or something. Do they really think they are going to give their main character a background love interest in S5? when they have introduced a love interest (Vickie) for one of their more minor character (Robin)?
Like, do they even realize how fucking ridiculous it sounds? So they were more encouraged to introduce a new love interest for one of their minor characters than to introduce a new love interest for their main character? Not hating on Robin here but objectively speaking she is not exactly a main character like Will is.
Not to mention the duffers could already have introduced a new love interest for Will in S4 by making him meet with a boy in Cali. Yet they have not.
Like I really am trying to see their point here. Do they think the Duffers would just hate Will so much that they make him suffer, throw him in an unrequited love storyline, and build up Mike's rejection... for what exactly? For ''realism''???? Why would they do that to their main character who is the only canonically confirmed gay boy on the show??? When they wouldn't do that to Robin??
Fuck off with your ''realism'', really. It's not realism you guys want. It's just cruelty and suffering and hate crime you guys want to see.
The Duffers aren't going to introduce a fucking homophobic heartbreak storyline for their main, I'm sorry if you guys want to see that happen but it's not how things work. I'm saying this to Melvins who want and expect this to happen as well, if you are reading this ask. It's not gonna happen. And if it happens, then the Duffers would give their only gay main character the most homophobic storyline for no reason other than suffering tbh, when they could have introduced a new love interest for Will already without involving him in Mike's storyline.
Do you guys really believe the Duffers would be that cruel and write something like this than to believe that they are breaking Melvin up since at least S3 by showing us how their relationship doesn't work because they are not compitable?
To be honest, I think the reason a lot of people, especially Reddit Bros, think this is because they don't view Will as a main character.
I've noticed a trend in which a lot of (mostly guys let's be real) in the GA kind of write Will off as an unimportant character. I think a lot of people are more focused on El and her arc, and are invested in the Vecna storyline, but they really don't view Will to be significant outside of his connection to Vecna.
Basically, they view Will as a plot device and not a character, which is why they're so comfortable with the idea that he ends up sad, alone, or dead, because they're viewing him as a way of getting from point A in the plot to point B,
But this is explicitly NOT how the Duffers have written Will, and they've made that pretty apparent, especially in recent interviews saying that Will is going to be a main focus in season 5, which means that Will's emotions, motivations, and struggles ARE important to the storyline. And that also means that his feelings for Mike WILL get more explicitly addressed.
But because they continually view Will as a side character or as less important to the plot, they couldn't even fathom him actually getting a well-developed arc in which he could potentially have a real love interest.
And yes, I do think homophobia has something to do with the fact that a lot of these dudebros don't really seem to care about Will as a character.
Anyway, Will Byers deserves better and he deserves his mf hero arc and he deserves love and affection from his boyfriend Mike Wheeler.

Rewatching Stranger things and now I think Will wasn’t taken by demogorgon but Vecna. There are few things to prove this theory .
1. Will was followed and the latch to the door opens exactly the way Eleven opens it in Season 2 when she comes back in the finale
2. Demogorgon wastes no time in killing. And most of its victims are dragged and immediately killed.
3. Demogorgon smells blood. And Will is not bleeding at all
4. The figure stalked Will. Now this is dicy as demogorgon can stand on two feet and is pretty tall as seen in season 1 as well as season 4 Russian prison. But it can look like Vecna as well since Vecna wasn’t introduced in season 4 Though he technically did existed in the UD
5. We don’t see Will’s abduction at all. The bulb in the shed goes off and next thing Will disappears.
6. Will managed to STAY ALIVE for DAYS I mean DAYS. One of the reason I like the character is because the SURVIVAL INSTINCT. Imagine how scared the boy must be seeing the entire of Hawkins dead silent and filled with horror. Not to mention at the end he runs from castle Byers which is in the woods all the way to the school. I mean that is some serious running !
7. Last but not the least he is singing his song. He sings it all throughout the season till the very end. Not to mention when Joyce walks into his bedroom and all the lights are flickering Will’s stereo automatically starts playing but everything stops once the demogorgon is near him.
8. Bonus haha…. Demogorgon manages to come near him many times but never eats him. As far as I have seen the creature it’s not that smart. It just hunts and eats. So I believe in addition to Will’s brilliant hiding skills Vecna is keeping him safe for whatever reasons. Thus I believe Will has some sort of connection to the UD OR Vecna just took a liking to him trying to get him on his side like he tried doing with El.
There is one more observation: Will never discusses UD with anyone. I mean it might be plot relevant and yes he must have developed extreme case of ptsd trying to forget as much as he can about the place but he just doesn’t. Maybe the writers want to keep the mystery of that place and Will knowing most will jeopardize upcoming thrill of the seasons
That’s all for today guys!

Imagine the season 5 trailer, at the end there's a clip where we start close to Will’s face. He calls out "Mike? Mike!" As the camera moves away from him, he turns every which way, looking for someone, anyone, and as the camera moves out, we see that he's in the void. He clearly doesn't know where he is or how he got there. He calls out one last time, "Mike!" And it cuts to black. Then, still with a black screen, we hear a quiet voice say, "Will?" It's Max's voice. Then the Stranger Things music starts and the Stranger Things 5 logo appears.
(Or alternatively)

Mike has a hand on his shoulder or arm, clearly just having shaken Will to wake him. He says "Will! Will are you okay?" But his voice is almost faded in the background. We hear Will's harsh breathing loudly. Will is looking around in panic, almost as if he doesn't realize he's back in the normal world... or as if he's looking for someone. Then, he looks Mike straight in the eyes and says, "Max." The scene cuts out and Stranger Things music starts and the Stranger Things 5 logo appears.

i can't wait for season 5 will in crop top, with new styled hairstyle and hotter than hell confidence who will accidentally flirt with mike (or other boys) because he is so tired to pretend and be "good" and this attitude will cause mike's endless panicking gay moments, that would be iconic

if will byers has a villain arc i hope they do so using a madness arc as that would make the most sense for his character with all he’s been through already kinda setting the foundations for mental instability through his relatively untreated ptsd, him being isolated from the others the last couple seasons, and what mindset vecna will manipulate him into to lead him to make those choices in his moments of vulnerability, but idk… can we trust the duffers to conduct topics like that in an educated way like, say, arcane did? what do we think?
