I just wanted to share something I found when combing through Helluva Boss for screenshots.
In "Truth Seekers", at the end of the episode, Blitzø offers to fuck Stolas.
To which Stolas accepts before leaning in to kiss him. But look at Blitzø's expression when he notices him doing that.
His expression turns soft. Genuine emotion slips through, only for a moment.
It's only a few frames and lasts around a second. It's blink and you miss it before he goes back to being sexual. But I just thought it was such a sweet detail.
[Expanding on this since it's gotten popular]
I think this reaction ties well into the message of this episode.
I feel like it shows Blitzø's want for intimacy, but also how disconnected he is from it.
You can see the surprise on his face. The soft look. He desires affection.
But Blitzø is very quick to turn it back sexual because that falls within his comfort zone. Because he doesn't know how to handle the intimacy he craves.

Helluva Boss Rewrite (WIP)
Disclaimer: I have no harsh intentions regarding rewriting HB. This is just some headcanons coming from an ex fan who is currently a critic of the show.
The Lore
Hellaverse rewritten lore gonna be based on the worldbuilding of John Wick and Good Omens (Helluva is action oriented)
The concept of human sinners being Overlords doesn’t exist in the rewrite but Hellborns can be Overlords.
Hellborns (like Imps, Succubi and Hellhounds) are middle class, Goetians are upper class (aristocracy/nobility) and the Seven Deadly Rulers are higher and more respected than Goetians despite some of them are Goetians (e.g. Asmodeus)
The imps are the soldier class in Hell’s system and known for their various combat skills
The succubi and incubi are used seduction as a form of distraction for the target
Hellhounds’ appearance are similar to werewolves but they can shapeshift to a literal canine
Hellborns usually age slowly, resistant to fire and wouldn’t be eradicated by gunshot unless if they’re in contact with Holy water
Holy water is fatal for Hellborns but they’re used to make fuel for deadly weapons
The Characters
Soul Trading Department
Instead of being an assassins for trade, the IMP is part of Stolas’ legions where they’re responsible for targeting souls for Stolas’ soul for trade
Their main nemesis are Shax and her legions

Skilled in melee (hence her name) and close combat

Most Goetian demons are usually fallen angels and their abilities weaken a bit when they’re in contact with Holy Water (a fuel used for deadly demonic weapons)
Goetians tend to bid their conjurer for a soul (like literal soul) to do the bidding they wanted (other than souls, they were offered with things they associate with)
Similar to Good Omens, Angels and Fallen Angels are usually agender or non binary at the time they were created and most Goetians identify as non binary or transgender (e.g. Stolas being trans masc)

“Of course” you replied back. “Miss Yuna Nam, it’ll be another wait, so please wait” you said to her. She only nodded back while going back to her phone.
Half an hour later and your boss still hasn’t replied. Strange, let’s try the intercom again. You spoked again and he still hasn’t replied. Weird
You decided to take your stuff and walk up to his office through the elevator.
You waited and you arrived. You walked up to his office and knocked. It appears the door was open. You slowly opened his door and saw him changing.
You saw how his abs were glistening in the natural sun. How his hair shocked as he put on his medical suit. And his eyes were full of determination.
You just stood there like a deer frozen in headlights. As he was about to turn his head, you were immediately gone. But he already got a glimpse of you. He just finished changing smirking to himself.
As he was about to head to surgery you guys both crossed paths, he stopped to talk to you.
“So y/n, you liked what you saw, so needy to see your boss already huh?” He whispered
“It wasn’t like that sir, I was only trying to get you to get ready for your surgery” you said avoiding eye contact.
He only just laughed it off and the both of you guys headed to the surgery.

I really like your response to the anon asking about what are the strengths of TFOTA. I think you nailed it regarding how Holly Black hit it out of the park, and I’m curious if you can expand on what you think some of the series missteps were. (TFOTA is an all-time fave for me, but nothing is perfect!)
For me, I think the way she structures her books into different parts does make them drag a little (especially some parts of the middle of The Wicked King). Like sometimes it feels like characters are spinning their wheels a bit while she’s setting everything up for the plot, but I ultimately don’t mind this because her plots are so well executed.
As always, love your breakdowns and critiques so just curious to hear more!

OO yes I heard that as an often critique of her stuff! I do think you're right and the slowness is present, but to me it's not an issue since the characters are fun enough for me never to be bored. I'm the kind of reader who can enjoy the slowest thing imaginable as long as the characters interest me.
Structured like the strengths post, my main issues. 1) The YA writing style of overexplanation. These books are sometimes great at leaving things unsaid, but other times they beat you over the head with the same thing over and over again or go into explanations for stuff you'd think is understood. Example: Jude constantly repeating it is messed up she lives with the guy who killed her parents in book 1. Like. Okay. We know. Trust us we didn't forget it's wrong to kill people and steal their kids. Of course, her constantly thinking about her trauma is part of her character, but it can be expressed in different ways - examples of how this was done well were "I love Madoc, I could love anyone" or "I get scared and I remember the smell of my mother's insides". 2) The repeating stuff from my list of pros... where it doesn't belong. Sometimes characters do or say stuff because HB wants them to do or say them bc she likes to write about it, but it makes NO sense. This was my main issue with TSH - for example, there is absolutely no reason for Oak and Suren's relationship to draw parallels with Jude and Cardan's to the point of repeating phrases, because they are so different that it jerks me right out of the story being told. 3) The editor is asleep on the job. There are quite a few basic editing errors - the amount of times characters smile or grin per page, and the continuity errors. This is the most frustrating aspect because it is so easy to solve!!!!! Just read it once more and click delete!!!! 4) Sometimes HB's "let's go back and elaborate on something from the past to give it a new dimension" works great, and sometimes it makes no sense. Examples: the Ghost betraying Jude because he was forced to, Locke being an Undersea collaborator and a gancanagh. 5) Taryn. She gets her own point because I love her and it's so unsatisfying how she ended up. She spends 2 books girlbossing and being such a sympathetic traitor, then gets pregnant and decides to stop being the worst offscreen and never does another plot relevant thing again. I don't know if HB got tired of her or if she realized everyone hated her and decided to sideline her so people would stop yelling, but MAN is it such a standout bad conclusion among a sea of good ones. 6) JUSTICE FOR OAK GREENBRIAR MY SHORT KING he was always described as tiny and underdeveloped for his age RIGHT up until he became a love interest, when he SUDDENLY started towering over everyone while still overflowing with short king energy. This is a joke to end the list on a happy note but also I would pay for a version of TSH where my monster girl has to lean down to kiss her bf

I've seen some HB fans argue that sometimes people are just jerks and there is no explanation for their behavior when defending Stella's writing.
And about the dynamics of Stolitz they say that this show is meant to be about characters who make bad choices because of the situation they're trapped in, like Stolas in his unhappy marriage.
Whats your opinion on that?
This argument, in addition to being incredibly lazy and half-assed, is patently wrong. Nobody does anything for "no reason," and nobody who's a jerk is that way for no reason; personalities are shaped by how we're raised, our circumstances, the choices we make, and our motivations for making those particular choices.
In addition, even hostile, cruel, aggressive people have people/things that they like and lives outside of laughing at car crashes. Even the Wicked Witch of the West loved her sister. Stella's personality, after a full season, has been limited to swilling wine and hurting innocent puppies and Stolas, who the narrative treats like an innocent puppy.
As to Stolitz, the problem with Stolitz is that none of Stolas's choices are made out to be especially wrong. Everything is always someone else's fault, everyone else is the problem including Blitzo, an imp from the impoverished bottom rung of society. Doesn't matter -- Stolas is treated like the nice guy we're supposed to sympathize with and Stolas has yet to recognize that his behavior re: Blitzo might be wrong in any way.
Lastly, even if the show is meant to be about characters making bad choices, that doesn't make Stolas and Blitzo a good couple. On the contrary, despite what Vivzie and Brandon say, all we've ever seen is that Blitzo is better and happier when he's not around Stolas.

caramel arrow is fucking cool. i love her outfit so fucking much ughhhh its so pretty the black and white motif of the dc kingdom is my EVERYTHING!!!! AND HER FUCKING WEAPON???? DUAL BLADES THAT ATTACH INTO A BOW???? THATS LITERALLY WICKED I WANT ONE OF THOSE!!!! also i eat up strong female characters like theyre my last meal on earth i just adore her resolve and her loyalty and her STRENGTH shes a BOSS of the GIRL NATURE
despite me loving her so so much, i cant help but feel as though she got SHAFTED in the story relevance department. the only role she really plays in the 13-14 story is that shes the means by which gingergang infiltrates the castle. thats honestly all she really does???? and thats SO DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!!! she couldve been so much more!!!!!!!!!! not to mention how she acts when she finally finds dark cacao. instead of, i dont know, yelling at him for abandoning her and the rest of the kingdom and saying that his long-winded message of telling her to get help was fucking STUPID, she just kisses his ass and says “ok lets go fight!! i never gave up on you!!” LIKE DUDE SHOW SOME SELF-RESPECT AND SAY “HEY MY KING IM LOYAL TO YOU BUT YOURE FUCKING TERRIBLE AT THIS!!!”
THEY DIDNT EVEN LET HER GET REVENGE ON AFFOGATO LIKE GRRRR ok i get its rated like 12+ so they couldnt have her straight up murder him BUT STILL!!!!! she couldve put an arrow in that bitch’s back as he was running away. damn. caramel arrow should be allowed to murder because shes hot. but the recent bond story with her and affo is really fucking funny though so ill let this one slide.
another thing is that i wanted to badly for her to have a one-on-one with dark choco the way he and dark cacao had. like, i wanted her to have a chance to ask him why. surely he doesnt have a vendetta against her like he did with his father???? he probably wouldve spoken with her, albeit briefly, considering she was literally his apprentice or something. we couldve learned so much about dark choco before the whole sword thing went down and about dark cacao back in those times. sighhhhh the girlboss was gatekeeped :(
i really like her but once again she falls a little flat because the story doesnt give her a ton to do which sucks so hard :pensive: ily caramel arrow youre my homie forever <3

FULL RAMBLE UNDER THE CUT
i have very conflicting opinions about the king of not-my-problem. do I think he's hot? unabashedly. Do I think he's a terrible person? also unabashedly.
ill start with what i like. first off........ patrick seitz is a fucking phenomenal voice actor and GOD he really nails it with dark cacao. he's on my list of voices that i want to read me bedtime stories. second off, god am i a sucker for his design. the big chunky armor hits me right in my paladin soul. the color palette is so simple yet so striking, and i love how his violet-tinted grays and blacks contrast with his sons warmer tones. that's a neat little detail that really differentiates them and draws the generational line further beyond just ideals and alignment.
theres so much to fucking unpack about this man when it comes to personality and dialogue. i do NOT feel like going back and reading through that again until the emotional damage from the first time wears off, so just roll with me here. god FUCKING damn he actually got an entire arc for his personality and it STANDS OUT. pv and hb remained mostly static throughout their stories but dark cacao got the fucking special treatment and ughhhhh its so good.
i just...... excuse the pun but i adore how his soul jams theme is actually baked into his arc. with the other two ancients, it was their jams trait (light of truth and light of passion) that HELPED them finish their arcs, because they had both lost those things along the way and their journeys were about reacquiring pv's missing truth and hb's faded passion. with cacao, its his jam's trait, his own resolution was the very thing that was HINDERING him. he was so set in his ways BECAUSE he still had his strong resolution that he failed to realize that HE was the problem with his kingdom and his relationship with his son. god FUCKING damn that subversion from the norm WAS SO FUCKING REFRESHING AND I COULD GO ON ABOUT THIS FOREVER BUT I WONT!!!! THIS IS ALREADY SO LONG AND I HAVE ANOTHER THING TO GO OVER OK
okay so... theres something i really dont like about him. dark cacao is a terrible fucking king and dark choco was mostly in the right to try and make him change his ways (obviously he shouldn't have sought out a cursed sword to do so, as only bad things can come of that but still). all dark cacao could focus on was the wall. somewhere along the line he made it HIS burden alone to protect the world from the licorice sea, and because he put all his time and resources into that, others suffered because of it. his neglect is what caused the villages under the rule of his kingdom to waste away into ruin. hell, even citizens living in the CITADEL were suffering, for christs sake. resources were being depleted for this one project until there was nearly nothing left. my man may be earthbread's top emo model, but mans a FUCKING TERRIBLE KING. I'm having a bad case of DM writers block, in the sense that I'm coming up with ideas for everything accept my next session. I've got a wicked time loop idea for next campaign, but nothing for 2 days from now. So, in order to help my mind process what's on the table, I'm writing down a bullet list of all the current factors going on.
Party is lv 10 assorted mages. Phoenix Sorcerer, Knowledge Cleric/GOO Warlock, Aberrant Sorcerer, HB Gadgetsmith Inventor. (Occasional Glamor Bard)
PC Cleric/Warlock's family has been corrupted by evil wizards working for BBEG#1.
Because of her own fault, PC has mostly been abandoned by her family, especially her jilted mother. (Her younger sister has also had her mind wiped of PC.)
PC's family runs a huge smithing company.
Smithing Co has been doing suspiciously better thanks to the involvement of the evil wizards who the mother likes.
Home town is currently dealing with a huge crime wave, the likes of which haven't been seen in this era. (Linked back to BBEG#1)
Smithing Co has been bolstering the town guard with better weapons to help fight the crime wave.
The mother is secretly working on a plan for something else big. It's a secret. Don't tell them.
PC wants to kill the evil wizards, primarily on the basis that they mind wiped her sister, but she also suspects the crime wave is their fault. Start a big problem in order to sell the solution.
Smithing Co factory/manor is heavily guarded and previous attempts to get in won't work. Guards have been beefed up, security has better patrols, invisibility protection, and secret entrances have been blocked off.
Evil wizards rarely leave the house and often teleport places.
PC has someone on the inside. Her older sister has not had her mind wiped and has been working to try and convince their mother that the evil wizards are evil.
PC2 has a criminal contact that they've paid to pull some strings to find a weakness. Their hope is to catch the evil wizards (1 or more) on the outside.
Criminal contact has a safe place for the party to rest. He hasn't been touched by the crime wave because he's a fence for the thieves' guild.
Criminal contact has a knack for getting ahold of things people probably shouldn't have that would be very useful for breaking in places.
That said, here's what I need:
A method of draining their resources. They are level 10 and a straight fight with the wizards would be too easy. I'm thinking of using the crime wave for this. Have them heroically swoop in to stop a group of low level thugs without wasting too many of their resources.
A possible time sensitive situation. Draining their resources means nothing if they can just wait until the next day when they are well rested. I'm thinking having this related to the mother's big plan. Have the older sister tell the group that the mother is leaving soon so they've got a small window of opportunity.
A method of getting in the house. This one is easy. The criminal contact can give them a scroll of seeming which will get them through the door with the help of the older sister.
Something to build tension. Frankly, I'm not sure what to do here. The time sensitive aspect may be enough but I feel like there needs to be an extra something special.
A dramatic confrontation/boss fight. I mean, this one is simple. I've got these down at this point. Put the party in a room with the villains and have them monolog and fight. Maybe even trim the fat and just have them all fight in the foyer. Throw in the little sister who is just confused by these colorful strangers and it's a recipe for fun.
Back up plans. The evil wizards are sly and crafty. The type of villains that have back ups of back ups in case their first plan goes awry. They are persistent and likely won't die here. They are too smart for that. I just don't know what that will be at this moment. Probably the good ol teleport away anyway.
This is is risky, but I had one of the first bosses the party fought come back as a revenant. I was thinking of having a roll at every fight as to whether he shows up or not, maybe a countdown timer that is clearly indicated to the players. "After X turns, the revenant shows up and you guys will struggle."
This list has actually been very helpful. In the process of typing this, I think I have my plan down well enough that I can adlib the smaller details. Good planning session, me.

favourite colour: phthalo green! namely why it's a very core part of the argos suit. they like wearing blacks/greys/dark greens and blues, those tend to lean into the more professional/conservative look they're angling for as a mob step, but i'm sure if they weren't having to worry abt staying lowkey in civilian cover they'd love to dress up in more bright colours, jewel tones n such. as for now, most of that's reserved for when they're juno (pre-debut) and argos.
their cuckoo training's given them an aversion to opera and ballet, given those featured heavily in the functions they were meant to infiltrate as a cuckoo, sometimes as a dancer themselves. but! musicals and plays, for sure. The COSTUMES. THE EMOTIONS. tia elena probably invites sura to come with her one time and they're hooked (i want to believe wicked's in the fh verse, they'd be all over that. misunderstood outcast tarred as a villain? YEAH. post-hb it'd have even more resonance; no good deed is SO fitting cos of past-self rivalry. defying gravity, too.) then there's 70s-80s rock, esp queen (ofc the lead singer is the purrcury's namesake), sharing the same taste in music as pelayo and joes lol.
they're a classics/shakespeare nerd too, (hence why sura's puppet was named juno), and they'd especially enjoy viola's genderfuckery in twelfth night (and honestly, the mental image of argos going "it's SHAKESPEARE you HEATHEN" after quoting something from one of the tragedies at a clueless hero is too funny to pass up. they're just bringing some class to the villain scene.)
they like movies, though they do find it a little less engaging w/o the minds to read. a good few hollywood golden age, but animated ones are probably their favourite thanks to themmy. they binged a bunch of cartoon movies together, and lilo and stitch is their favourite cos of the BIG relate to lilo being a weird autistic girl and stitch being an escaped experiment that was made to be evil, but learned to love,,,,,
favorite person: pre-hb, it was a tie between ortega, tia elena (she nicknamed sura pollito, and she's the Only person sura will allow to call them that) and, as expected, themmy, in no small part due to the fact they all kept feeding sura. and he kept coming back like a stray cat lol. they made sura feel safe and loved and valued, and not just a little kid. themmy (in my hc) being openly autistic especially helped sura be less insecure about how young he came off, especially when the farmhands infantilised the regenes so much (and by extension, learning to mask and suppress his autistic traits). part of hiding his face (and lowering his voice) was so people would take him seriously, cos he was well aware how babyish he looked. it was a huge relief not to do that anymore, or at least do it less.

throughout rebirth, it was just mortum, largely cos they felt like the friendships they had as sidestep, being able to relax in someone else's company, this time, in juno's body. they love nerding out with her on tech stuff, critiquing peoples' suits, and just generally having someone that Gets It about just sitting in silence hanging out (mortum reads as neurodivergent to me).
it's a tie between her and chen now, to the surprise of both sura and chen, given how much friction they used to have lol. turns out that they have a lot in common (better at bonding with animals instead of people), more so than before hb, of course. (i am also pushing my autistic chen agenda, and that was part of the friction between the two was that step was trained to understand allistic inclined people. chen operates on different rules. but also given chens scepticism about the suspiciously well-trained young vigilante thing, i'll give him a pass for that too.)
rat king opinions: SURA ADORES THE GIRLS. sorta filling the void fred did, but not quite. i like to think of them as like… a telepathic equivalent of a service dog. if sura wasn't a mob step, they'd be a lot more dependent on them for interaction, but as is, they're a reliable supportive presence that sura knows will always have its back. it's nice to have another telepath to communicate with! routinely gives them mental scritches and treats for being the best telepathic rat brains in the whole world. they deserve it!!(and an added bonus, that also involves some self-care for herself. can't disappoint/let them down. it's a win/win.)
