Title: a day in the life
Pairing Victuuri + reader
Fandom: Yuuri on ice
Warnings: fluff, baby reader, male reader, Viktor and Yuuri are dads
@gaybitchfx
☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️🐟☁️
Viktor smiled as he looked at the one year old, the little one smiling as he rested his little hand on Yuuri's knee "hello little one"(name) was finally brought home with them, the two having moved to Japan closer to Yuuri's family and where they planned on starting a family. (Name) Was absolutely precious, the two men absolutely smitten with their son who was just so sweet and lovely "you're getting so good at walking my little zajka" Viktor said lovingly to the babe who turned to look at him and raise his arms up to be held.
Only Yuuri's family had met the babe, having brought food and such for the three as they adjust to their newest member of the family, makkachin watching curiously as the babe was carried by Viktor "are you ready to join papa for Skate practice?" Viktor asked the babe as the three walked to the nursery, Yuuri picking out an adorable little poodle, a fuzzy good to boot "oh you're just too much! Phichit is gonna eat you up"
They planned for their friends to visit in the following month, currently just wanting to spend time with their little one who wanted to do everything they were doing.
The three went out, Makkachin having what she needs and Mari going by later to walk the pooch.
(Name) Babbled happily as his parents spoke to one another, occasionally joining (name) into the conversation to encourage talking as the babe was learning three languages at once.
Viktor would tell his son everything Yuuri was doing as they watched him practice, being the Japanese man's coach he knew everything that was going to happen to a T and though (name) didn't really understand he was curiously looking at his papa moving around so fast.
"When you're bigger, we can get you a some skates and you can learn but don't worry about going professional, whatever you wish to do I will support" Viktor said softly to his boys who rested his tiny head against his dad's chest "though if you wanna go into skating I will help you every step"
After practice they got lunch, politely asking the waitress for just a tiny cup of whipped cream for their son who went the day so far without losing his little marbles, usually when he can't do the things he wants to do like eat the couch or climb Makkachin.
"So good!" Yuuri said to his son who ate a tiny spoonful of whipped cream, it was a tiny amount but the boy was absolutely thrilled with the treat as he smacked the table, sitting in Yuuri's lap "I feel this might become an addiction" Viktor joked as they ate their food and entertained the tiny one who kept trying to get to their lunches "when you're bigger you can have this" yuuri said to the boy who was not impressed with this answer.
"I would literally die for him" the two looked over the crib for (name)s bedtime, the little one already having his nap during practice "he's absolutely wonderful... Just a ray of sunshine"
"Everyone is gonna be obsessed with him"
"Just remind phichit no posting"
"Of course"

Mother's Intuition: the Importance of Vic-chan
I have watched YOI now more times than I can count, and even though I can recite so much of it from memory, I am still noticing new things. This time, it was something massively small…
Namely, the understated but incredible Katsuki Hiroko.
When Yuuri arrives home for the first time in five years, and people ask why he’s not at the World Championships, Hiroko immediately comments on how great that is because it means Yuuri has finally been able to visit. She doesn’t just blunt the blow, saying “I get to see my son!” Full-on body-blocks Yuuri’s shame. It reminds Yuuri that he is adored and welcomed by his family, and even when he professionally fails, mom is going to be there to give him a ray of light.
But that’s not what I noticed. No. It was something from just after Victor arrived in Hasetsu. When Minako comes barging into Yu-Topia needing to see Yuuri because of the rumor about Victor.
What does Hiroko say? She says, “oh Vic-chan Is already here! And he’s sleeping soundly.”
Hiroko’s son is a professional skater. She knows the highs and lows and ups and downs that come with that, and she can read Yuuri probably better than nearly anyone else. And to me, the fact that she’s already using such familiar diminutives when Victor has waltzed in has meaning. It’s that when she looked at Victor Nikiforov, she saw beyond his mask and his bluster, down to the exhausted person who had escaped to her little corner of the world to coach her son.
She could see Vic-chan was not there on some rescue mission just for Yuuri. That he looked as lost as (if not more lost than) her own son, and by calling him Vic-chan, she’d already made up her mind what that meant.
It meant Katsudon, extra large. And happily cleaning out their banquet room to give Victor a place to stay. And probably many more things behind the scenes that didn't make it to the show, giving the two lost boys in her house a safe place to regroup and recover. (Three lost boys once Yurio arrived).
Yes, of course she knows that this is the skater Yuuri has been obsessed with for over half his life. But that’s not why she calls Victor Vic-chan. She calls him Vic-chan because he needs someone who will call him Vic-chan right now, someone who will cook him piping hot katsudon after a long day, someone who sees beyond the mask to the kid who probably hasn’t been mothered since he showed promise in skating, and stepping in to give him some of what he’d lost.
Hiroko could see Vic-chan within the first few minutes of meeting Victor, so it’s not much of a stretch to believe that Hiroko understood that Victor was a permanent part of their family within a week of that first meeting.
Mothers always know, after all.

This is just a minor detail, but I'm doing another rewatch of YOI and every time, I discover something new. So, while I was watching episode 1 tonight, I've noticed the bilingual writings in Russian and English at the GPF in Sochi.
First, we have the event badges (Russian & English) worn by the people at the venue, like Yuuri's:
Tumblr media
...and only minutes later, we have the programme announcement on the wall of Iceberg Skating Palace:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't speak Russian, so I don't know whether the writing is correct, but that's beside the point. Mistakes happen when people aren't familiar with the language they try to translate into. What's important here is it that the YOI creators went to such lengths to make this show so realistic and went as far and visited figure skating competitions and locations. They had a very concrete and detailed knowledge about how everything looks and incorporated everything they've noticed into this beautiful, beautiful show. And this includes even such tiny details as these bilingual writings.
(For fans who've been in this fandom for longer than I, this is probably old news, but my point is that this attention to detail is so amazing and I adore it so much!)

Looking at the trivia part on YOI wiki just for a bit of fun. Ignore me, I’m not doing well in summer, the heat is killing me.
Kenjirou was planned as Yuri's Planned Design.
Help, Minami is what Yurio was supposed to look like. Yurio was supposed to be an angry chicken nugget.
Georgi is known in Japan as the "pigeon".
DFJGLJGHJLHKL WHY??
Seung-gil has an extreme aversion (a strong dislike or disinclination) to women and vegetables while he likes meat and dogs
Dislikes women and vegetables. That’s the same category. I hate cabbage and also half of humanity. Where’s that meme. “You’re gay because you love men. I’m gay because I hate women. We’re not the same.”
Seung-gil doesn't look good in anything, but he wears sportswear when he dresses himself as he basically has no interest in fashion since he's so devoted to his sport
SDKGHJLSHFGLKFHSLDH “DOESN’T LOOK GOOD IN ANYTHING” WHY SO MEAN TO HIM. He didn’t do anything, he just wanted to skate as a rainbow parrot.
He also has many mischievous friends.
This is about Otabek. What does it meannnnn. I wish I could read the source.
According to SNS, Phichit is one of the Three Most Adorable Men's Figure Skaters in Asia.
The others are Minami and Guang Hong. I love that this is a thing.
The caption on his Instagram post during the credits reads "Reunited with bae".
This is about Chris. Captioning a post with his cat. I want to know if that’s the cat’s name or if he’s just being ridiculous. Probably just being ridiculous.
Chris is near-sighted. He uses contacts when skating.
See, Yuuri, you don’t have to skate practically blind.
Emil does extreme sports during the off season, which makes his coach nervous.
dhfghdjhghjkfg I did not know this. I love. “I swear to god if you come back with a broken leg--”
It is likely that Celestino has a low alcohol tolerance.
The way this is phrased compared to the image of him passed out on the table with Phichit taking pictures
Toshiya does not know much about figure skating as he is more of a soccer fan.
That’s not an excuse, Toshiya, your son started doing it when he was a child.
On the official site, she is described as "the woman of Yuuri's dreams"
About Yuuko. I’m. What fgjhghjlfhkjg Even with my interpretation of Yuuri being bi, this is a lot.
According to Mitsurou Kubo, while the staff did their best to portray the appeal of the skaters, they didn't try very hard with Takeshi.
GSLJHSLKDGKHJLDH SO MEAN
Mila is seen during the Sochi GPF banquet taking pictures of Yuuri Katsuki pole dancing.
And I want to see her pictures too. We got pictures by others, give me hers too.
Sara's Instagram is sala-crispino
And I find this now, years after we had the naming discourse.
Michele is ironically described as a virgin.
The “Ironically” is the part that kills me here.
A portion of Michele's free program is skated by Yuuri Katsuki in the opening credits
Does he deserve the honor? And he was so rude to Yuuri too ( ᓂ︿⁾⁾⁾)
Actually this made me think about Viktor deciding to get back at Mickey for disrespecting Yuuri, and encouraging Yuuri to skate his program just because he’ll do it better. I think Viktor is that kind of petty.
Some part of one of Michele's skate program "Serenade for Two" have been a part of Yuri Plisetsky's skate for the opening of anime.
Definitely Viktor’s idea. And Yuri was in on it.

“A long time ago, little bits of me and little bits of you and little bits of him, maybe we weren’t strangers. Maybe things weren’t so fucked up and messy, because, Jolene, I know you. Just like I know Alphonse just like he knows us, and that little piece of you that brought you here tonight, that feeling in your gut that told you to take this long walk home. You know me too. I don’t know if you’re a spiritual person, Hell I’m not, but when you know. You know.”
I cannot fucking describe to you how much I love this line. This may be one of my favorite lines in bittersweet, and it’s from when Seth was trying to be a big tough guy.
Like it’s really cool and even impressive to me that Yuuri so accurately foreshadowed themes for the rest of the series before bittersweet was even fully fleshed out.
Also it’s an idea that I’m just in love with outside of all the magic stuff in the yuuriverse. Just the idea of knowing someone, knowing their soul, even if you haven’t really known them. It’s just something I adore.
It also makes me think about the possibility for a little like AU that wasn’t so distant where Al, Seth, and Boo grew up together as kids and that shit is adorable.
But when I sit and think about that line from like the character’s stand point it makes me giggle so much. Because there are two routes you can take with it. a: Seth trying to be like intimidating to Boo being like “I know you” as if that would scare them. Which is really funny if that’s the case because how the fuck did he accurately predict that larger narrative of the story in second stand alone audio?? Or b: It was genuinely and Seth was going off on a genuine spiritual rant to a person he has just met who is dating his ex AND it also implies that Seth just inherently knew shit that no one else did?! Even Boo at the end of his rant was kind of like “what the fuck are you talking about”. It’s so funny to think about Seth accurately predicting the larger narrative of Bittersweet and Boo just looking at him like he’s fucking crazy.
Dude! And after that “dream” about Derek, I KNOW they were probably side-eyeing Seth because he said all of that shit when they first met???
I don’t know I just really love that part. Omg. It’s so good in every sense.

ice adolescence and russia
1 - Russia in today's world
okay look. I see you when you talk about how the political climate today means that iceado was doomed. I see you when you talk about the many many many doping scandals of Russian athletes, we saw it when the athletes didn't compete under the banner of Russia but as OAR or ROC, which I absolutely support. I see you when you rightfully mention Russia invading Ukraine. This is genuinely horrible, it's horrifying, it's inhuman, and the fact that many Russian athletes (including figure skaters) openly, unapologetically support their government's actions is disgusting.
2 - yuri on ice was just meant to be fun
now, let's also recognize that the core of yuri on ice to be silly and queer and accepting, to talk about anxiety and depression, about burnout and competition, about rediscovering your passion for your work and falling in love along the way. I see this, and these are some the reasons why I adore yuri on ice.
3 - yoi and russia
I would love to say that yoi is about escapism so we should ignore all real life events. But I'm not really that type of person, tbh.
We could all close our eyes and ignore thousands of people dying, ignore the doping scandals, ignore every bad thing Russia had done in modern history. But what about the people directly affected by this? do they deserve to see us comfortably having fun about a figure skating show ignoring the doping, and showing our main characters living and training in Russia, comfortably? with no mention of the inhumane actions of Russia, be they about the war or queer rights? really? is that something they deserve to see?
I see the people saying that maybe we can ignore the war, the way we ignored homophobia and eating disorders and bribing, but for the reasons above I really think we shouldn't.
I wish Russia had not done any of this, most of all because of all the deaths and destruction, but yes also bacause maybe that would have meant that maybe we could have had ice adolescence. However, we don't live in that world. And that still doesn't mean iceado had to be canceled.
4 - do not forgive or forget about MAPPA
I am not excusing mappa, okay? there is no way I will excuse or forgive mappa for ice adolescence. if they wanted to, they could have fixed this.
I've been thinking about this for maybe 20 minutes and I already have a solution, okay? and if I have a vague plan for how to handle this, then I am dead certain that a whole room full of people working for mappa could have figured it out. this is on the mappa execs, not the people doing the creative process. don't be fooled, the execs are probably just unwilling to try, if Russia's actions (and the actions of its athletes) are part of their reasoning.
5 - iceado could still exist even with everything russia has done
i think that the situation is rightfully delicate. but I also think that if a book like red white & royal blue (an openly gay book) could openly condemn US right wing politics and also portray the oppressive heteronormativity of the british royal family, without outright mentioning any real persons, then yoi s2 or ice ado could potray the figure skating scene in russia negatively and could have the characters leave the country.
they could show yakov as that one different coach in russian figure skating or maybe they could prove that he's your typical russian coach, which played a role in viktor's mental health getting worse and worse.
post-s1 scenes could be about viktor changing his mind and leaving russia, as a result of the doping scandal, or rising tensions internationally about Russia. the fact that we saw him and yuuri and yuri in st. petersburg didn't mean that decision was final. the pressures of a toxic environment could have made viktuuri leave, and whether or not yakov (or anyone) would follow them, or viktor would find another coach is something up for debate, yes, but there can be a debate. There can be a debate about yuri plisetsky about georgi and mila, about what this could mean for them.
iceado could condemn russian politics and the doping, the toxic community, and everything else really. in my opinion, the fact that this didn't happen speaks to mappa's unwillingness to try. im not educated in japan-russia relationships, to be frank, so I'm not sure how much backlash the show could possible face from the Japanese government for a decision like this one. Of course, this would insinuate that Japan is fine with the Ukraine invasion which is, well, not very good press to say the least (and naturally a violation of all sorts of human rights). I do however find it odd that we would never hear anything about talks debating this taking place, which means that once again mappa didn't try. And also, truthfully, just how plausible is it that Japan would go "no don't make more of that very lucrative anime because we don't want to condemn Russia's war / we don't want to condemn Russia's doping"? Because it doesn't sound that plausible to me.
6 - political yoi?
yes, this means that yoi would have become political, but when politics is about the right to live in your home without fear of death or invasion, why exactly shouldn't it get political?
and let's not forget that a world with no homophobia is already unfortunately political. because queer rights are not globally recognized, being pro or against queer rights (of which there are many so some are pro-same sex marriage but against trans rights which complicates things even more) is still a vital part of many many political parties' campaigns in a lot of countries.
yoi was already political in the sense that it showed a world of acceptance, because that's not a given.
what iceado had to do was show that acceptance does not mean ignoring inhumane, unethical actions.
this doesn't need to be the centric idea of iceado or yoi s2, either, by the way. simply showing something bad but realistic is enough. i wouldn't have needed 2 hours depicting the horrors of Russia ft. yuri on ice, but I would have loved to see 2 hours of teenage viktor trying to make it in this cutthroat world, with sporadic evidence of toxicity and too-much pressure, which are almost canon anyways. and any scenes taking place post-s1 could easily just show viktor make a number of realizations and choices that could lead to him leaving russia (to find a new coach or with yakov, with any of the russian skaters in yoi, or just with makkachin and yuuri, etc), which would show that yes they're not just ignoring russia's wrongdoings.
for being released in 2016-17, yoi was delightfully progressive in its queerness. but in 2024, asking the show to condemn doping and war on its way to show us viktor nikiforov's past is apparently too much to ask.
please give me your thoughts on this, yoi fandom, I'd love to see what everyone else thinks!

Miya&Mia's Tickletober Day 6 - Movie
Victuuri
Tumblr media
A/N: I this one got a little longer, but I don't think a read more is needed, hopefully! I hope you all enjoy this~
Tumblr media
Yuuri had confessed his best kept secret to Victor... well, it wasn't something that Victor hadn't already realized by now, but he still knew that it was something very difficult for Yuuri to admit.
His little face had turned unsightly red, Victor worried that Yuuri would faint at any moment. His eyes became watery with embarrassment and he fidgeted with his fingers almost desperately, but in the end, he was able to finally say it:
Yuuri liked being tickled.
Victor was thrilled. He most absolutely loved to tickle Yuuri. Oh, to feel his little body squirming and jerking under his touch, seeing his beautiful, big grin and hearing his absolutely breathtaking laughter was simply the most amazing thing in the world.
Victor had comforted him, saying that it wasn't bad at all and that he thought he was very adorable and that he, most importantly, loved him no matter what. Yuuri had calmed down and even smiled with relief, but Victor didn't tickle him and Yuuri didn't ask him to tickle him either.
In fact, more than five days had passed since that confession and Victor, although his fingers itched to make Yuuri laugh, thought that the natural thing was that, since he knew the secret, Yuuri was the one who should ask him to tickle him.
Right?
Victor wasn't so sure anymore and he sighed heavily as he settled himself on the couch, Yuuri quickly finding a spot glued to him, whining that he was scared.
Victor chuckled, "Yuuri, you can go to our bedroom," he said gently, kissing the top of Yuuri's head. "You're not forced to watch this movie with me."
Yuuri was nearly crying. He wasn't fond of scary movies, Victor knew this perfectly well, so he made sure to tell him in advance so Yuuri could go and watch tv in their room if he wanted, but instead, his little katsudon decided to stay there with him.
"But… what if you get scared all alone?"
"Aaaackkk!" Victor whined, hugging Yuuri tightly. "You are so cute, Yuuri! Fine, let's watch it together then!"
Victor didn't let go of Yuuri as the movie started. He held him tightly against his chest, cradling him as if he was hugging his own child, gently rubbing his back and kissing his forehead, but he could feel Yuuri's heart beating like crazy. His lover was really scared, wasn't him? Victor thought maybe it was best to stop the movie, but then he suddenly had an idea.
The movie was quite predictable, he barely reacted at the first jumpscare, contrary to Yuuri who jumped five feet in the air with a squeak. Victor had to giggle as he hugged Yuuri even tighter.
He waited for the next jumpscare and just when it was going to happen-
"EEKAHAHAHA!" Yuuri's laughter drowned out the loud scream from the tv. Victor laughed as his fingers dug into Yuuri's soft skin, tickling him. "Vihihihityahaha!"
"Yuuri," Victor said, stopping his tickling. "I have an idea to help you to not get too scared!" Yuuri flushed. "Every time there's a very scary scene, I will tickle you."
"A-Ah?! B-But I-
"So you'll start to learn when the next jumpscare will appear- like now."
"Ack! Ahahahaha! W-Wahahait! I wahahahasn't reheheady!" He said, giggling brightly as Victor dug his fingers into his ribs.
"Okay fine," Victor answered, stopping once again and rubbing Yuuri's back comfortably to help him relax. "But next time there's no waiting for you. If you don't get scared, I won't tickle you, okay? But if you do…"
"Ehehaha! Okahahay, gohohot it!"
Time and time again, Yuuri would jump at every scary scene and Victor had to tickle him every time until he was pink in the face and Victor simply couldn't get enough of that sweet laughter.
"Hiii- AHAHAHA! N-Nohohot thehehere!" Yuuri cackled when he felt fingers wiggling under his arms, and even though the scene was brief, somehow those mean fingers were tickling him mercilessly. "V-Vihihictor! Thehe m-mohohohovie- ack!"
Victor embraced Yuuri and turned their positions over, now Yuuri under him, pressed against the couch.
"Yuuri, the movie is almost over!" He said, starting to tickle Yuuri again. "Are you pretending to get scared just so I tickle you?!"
Yuuri's face got completely red and Victor worried his teasing had gone too far, but Yuuri barely did anything to stop his tickly hands against his ticklish sides.
"N-Nohohoho! I r-reheheally gehehet scahahared!"
Victor chuckled, his fingers moving down to Yuuri's tummy, making him laugh brightly. "I don't believe you. I think you just want me to tickle, isn't that so?"
Again, a string of fear pulled at his heart, but he was rewarded by a beautiful cackle when he grazed Yuuri's hips.
Victor laughed when he saw Yuuri's head moving affirmatively just as his hands moved to Yuuri's hips and upper thighs. His lover shrieked with hysterical laughter and he tried to kick his legs and twist his upper body, but Victor held him down nicely.
His cute Yuuri looked so beautifully happy. So joyful and alive, Victor could barely stand it. He stopped momentarily, to give his red-faced lover a break.
"You really want me to tickle you, Yuuri?"
Yuuri nodded breathlessly, smiling dreamily at his lover. "Yes, please? You haven't… done it in a while and- ahahahaha! But not thehehere!"
"Oh sorry, you already said that! So more tickling to you!"
"NAHAHAHA! WAHAHAHAIT!"
The movie was soon forgotten, the screams barely audible over Yuuri's nearly hysterical laughter. After all, maybe he didn't necessarily need to be told by Yuuri that he wanted to get tickled and that was a relief because he wanted to have his hands all over Yuuri the whole time.
"Yuuri... I heard this movie has a second part!"
"NOHOHAHAHA!"

Say what you will about the years it's taken for Ice Adolescence to air, but I'm actually glad for it in some ways because the long, long wait means we've had to spend all this time just appreciating Yuri on Ice for the genuine miracle of creative passion it was.
If we'd gotten a sequel or a movie right away, I think a lot of people would have forgotten some of the magic within those first twelve episodes. Not to mention the impact they had on those who watched and experienced it as the show aired.
Even if we never got anything else, Yuri on Ice would still be remembered, adored, and cherished because above all it was made with absolute devotion. The director, the writer, all the voice actors, the choreographers, the composers, the audio engineers, etc. etc. etc. Everyone was committed to giving everything they had to this tiny production that no one outside their team believed in. It aired late, and the only reason it blew up into the phenomenon it became was through word of mouth by an audience who recognized that devotion in each successive episode.
It'll be amazing to get more of Yuuri and Viktor someday, but for now, I'm just happy that Yuri on Ice exists at all, and that there's been so much consistent, living, breathing love for it so long after the final episode aired.
Love made Yuri on Ice legendary, and I sincerely like that it's gotten to stand on its own merits for so long.

wait what the fuck was the yuri on ice arbys ad
Oh I'm so glad you asked :)
So right after YOI ended, there were a surprising (to me) number of companies that had subtle references to YOI in their Valentine's Day ads in 2017
Arby's was one of them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I was genuinely surprised this was still up after so long)
Apparently, Arby's had a lot of anime references in their social media marketing at the time
There's also this Royce chocolate ad with letters from Victor and Yuuri to each other for Valentine's and White Day, which is absolutely adorable

Playing this game (without the likes) 🫶
1. enemies to lovers, best friends to lovers, lord and their knight ❤️
2. Not sure if these are tropes, but yandere lover (just not a very big fan of yandere), obsessive love (treating their partner as a possession), misogynistic attitudes or abusive power in a relationship (basically a partner defining what their partner, whether it be a woman or man, should do or behave, and the victimized partner finds it hot???)
3. Gradual mutual understanding for one another! I also learn more about the characters' personalities this way!
4. One or both partners experience withdrawal when they're being separated from each other lol. True feelings often emerge from such situations and it's adorable...
5. Multiship! So far, the only ships I really think about now are from FE3H and a few from Engage and TGAA. Here's a list of several multiships I enjoy!
FE3H (Apparently Dimitri is very shippable to me LOL)
Hubert x Ferdinand
Hubert x Edelgard
Sylvain x Felix
Sylvain x Ferdinand
Dimitri x Ferdinand
Dimitri x Felix
Dimitri x Dedue
Dimitri x Claude
Byleth x any lord
Engage
Alear x Alfred
Alear x Diamant
Diamant x Ivy
TGAA
Kazuma x Ryuunosuke
Barok x Kazuma
Barok x Herlock
6. I like both rarepairs and mainstream! Most of the rarepairs I like don't have any canon interaction, so I like to explore the "what could've been" situations.
7. Monogamy. Not much to explain here. It's just my preference lol
8. Using my favorite pair ferdibert, they are reversible, but I have a really strong preference for dom Hubert and sub Ferdinand. However!! I'm not a big fan of where Ferdinand is written or drawn very femininely. This applies to any MxM pair. I'm not against the concept of femininity in males, but when used in a stereotypical fashion, it rubs me the wrong way. Just a subtle depiction of their relationship dynamic is perfect to me! I'm alright with seeing SFW artwork of the reverse and reading said fics, but NSFW is where I draw the line
9. Thinking about the games I've played, I can think of at least one pair I like to see romantically, so yes 😂
10. Not at all important! After all, my favorite is romantic fluff 🥺 Depending on the intensity of my liking for a ship, the NSFW aspect becomes more bareable since I'm still personally embarrassed consuming such content lol. I am vanilla. Ferdibert is highkey the only one I consume NSFW for
11. A lot of my MxF and FxF pairs are platonic to me! This is likely due to my aegosexuality, which is the closest explanation I can identify with. Not everything needs to be romantic. I find close friendships very heartwarming too 🥺
12. My top favorites right now are ferdibert 🖤🧡, sylvix ❤️💙, and diminand 💙🧡!
13. My favorite pairs from fandoms that I'm not really engaging in now are:
Madeleine Cookie x Espresso Cookie (Cookie Run Kingdom)
Victor x Yuuri (Yuri on Ice)
Link x Zelda (Skyward Sword version)
Reyn x Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles 1)
Chrom x M!Robin (Fire Emblem Awakening)
14. Domestic fluff is really cute, but the official legal bonding of two partners isn't on my "must have" list for any romantic pairing. I really love seeing creations of my favorite pairs marrying though! Gives me the tingles every time and I just feel so happy 😍
15. As someone that made OC fan kids in the past, yes that is totally fine and I love seeing other people's interpretations for the same pair (if they don't have canon children). I've even made some for ferdibert before but I never fully flushed them out lol

Yuuri Katsuki: the importance of being earnest
There’s a reason that trying to write “fan ascending” is an extremely hard trope to get right, because so often the ‘ordinary Marty Stu’ pairing with the superstar has this air of author wish fulfillment to it that can ring a little bit false.
It’s also why Yuri!!! on Ice is brilliant, because it nailed the fan ascending trope. How did it do this? In a couple of ways.
First and foremost, Yuuri Katsuki is not an ordinary fan. He’s an unreliable narrator who is a Japanese superstar without the ability to see that about himself. He has every bit the ability of Victor Nikiforov, just with much more of it stored up in his potential rather than results and blocked by his anxiety.
That though is not why Victor fell for him. And not why it felt so damn real to see Victor fall for him. Because Yuuri’s power was in who he was inside, and how he dealt with/handled Victor Nikiforov becoming his coach, and importantly, the massive difference between how Victor predicted this arrangement was going to go, and how it actually went.
Victor remembers the drunk and moony Yuuri begging him at the banquet, and then skating Stammi Vicino. In Victor’s “always be camera ready” existence, he probably saw the Stammi Vicino skate as a brilliant marketing strategy, Yuuri making clear he was serious and asking again. And Victor, who was burned out and needed something new probably laughed and said “he got me.”
But… as we know, Stammi Vicino was not about luring Victor to Hasetsu. It was a genuine Yuuri trying to find the things that could bring his love for skating back. It wasn’t meant to be a public call to Victor at all, and so when Victor came and expected cameras and social media and look at me Victor is my coach! He got… something so entirely different.
He got a front-row seat to what it looks like when an entire hometown has adopted their local skater as a collective son. He got a front-row seat to a family who loved their son and supported him no matter what. He got a front-row seat to what happens when sincere hard work and friends who care about the person not the persona band together to help someone reach their potential.
He got I want to eat katsudon with you if I win, instead of I want you to declare to the world that you are my coach.
And for Victor, I think this was a shock.
Yuuri didn’t even fathom the idea of telling the whole world that Victor was coaching him (which we watch Victor decide to do).
Yuuri worried about how he was going to afford Victor’s coaching fees, as if Victor really truly was a celebrity coach, instead of a skater looking for a new way to be inspired.
One scene I have always adored is Victor complaining to Yuuri about coach seats being cramped on the way to Beijing. We know that Victor would easily have flown them both in First Class and not thought anything of it. It means that Yuuri was insistent that he pay for himself and his coach to fly to Beijing. I’ve no doubt he also insisted on paying for both his and Victor’s hotel rooms.
It’s also why the purchase of those rings is so profound. Because Victor knows that Yuuri budgets carefully. Yuuri bought those expensive rings for himself and his rich boyfriend, needing to pay them off in installments, without so much as glancing back at said rich boyfriend about finances. Victor recognized the profundity of the gesture.
And to Victor? Here was a person who made it so plain that he had no intention of ever taking advantage of him. Yuuri’s entire desire with Victor was for Victor just to be himself. Yuuri didn’t need a “oh look Victor is my coach look everyone.” He was over the moon that his idol was there teaching him. He didn’t want a fake kiss and relationship, he wanted a Victor who freaked out when he screwed up.
It meant that Victor who do you want me to be to you? Nikiforov’s mask slowly eroded away. And he found that Yuuri relished in the real Victor. And that it felt good being the real Victor.
All because Yuuri just wanted to eat katsudon with him when he won, insisted on paying both his and Victor’s way when it mattered.
Yuuri wanted Victor, and only Victor. The real one. And in every action, every decision, that Yuuri made, he reminded Victor of that.
It’s a master class to people attempting to write ‘the fan and the idol’ stories. Yuuri wanted Victor the person, not Victor the persona. And in every action, he reinforced that for Victor.
No wonder Victor fell so hard.

Today's translation #517
Yuri!!! on STAGE event pamphlet, Murase Ayumu's comment
>The fun of touching the world of figure skating
I've seen the storyboards drawn by Kubo-sensei, so I was recording my parts with a certain image in my head, how the finished anime is going to look like. In the actual anime, some details were added, some scenes were changed, and it felt to me as if a manga that only we know was getting an anime adaptation - it was really a very interesting series. Figure skating is interesting enough if you just watch it as it is, after all Japanese skaters get great results, but by watching it through animation, a genre that to me feel closer, I had the opportunity to get to know this disciple even better and I'm very grateful for it.
>Minami's strong adoration for Yuuri
Minami-kun really adores Yuuri, and Yuuri is someone he looks up to, but it's not the shallow type of adoration - Minami has in his heart "an image of cool Yuuri-kun" and he won't allow anyone, even Yuuri himself, to look down on Yuuri or belittling him. I felt that the source of Minami-kun's strength is the adoration and impact that he received [from Yuuri] that keep on living inside of his heart.
>Message for the fans
Even the actors were curious to know what was going to happen next, every episode, and now that we can meet again and do live reading event together, we, as well, are really looking forward to see how it's going to turn out. Please look forward to it, because I'm going to humbly receive all your encouragements.

I wrote a story about Viktor that spans from him winning his fifth Grand Prix Final title to the moment when he boards the plane to Japan in episode 2. It's a canon-compliant story, based on the few things we know about his life before Yuuri.
It's the story about a man who has been existing for his passion for all his life, but now as this passion has turned against him, he finds himself caught between retirement and continuing in a sport he is will soon too old for to continue.
It's a story about depression and creative burnout and the desperate chase for finding the inspiration the will turn the tide.
It's a story about a man who has given up on love.
This story is called Beneath the Shine of a Thousand Spotlights. I used the little information about Viktor and my research on St. Petersburg and Russian figure skating to fill the huge hole in canon Viktor's life in a most logical way. It also explores a possible past relationship with Chris and the deteriorating marriage of Yakov and Lilia (based on this brilliant meta I once read) and puts both in context with Viktor's feelings and decisions.
Thousand Spotlights is a very personal work and I would be endlessly happy if more people would learn about its existence and be willing to give it a try.
So far, I've posted the first 5 chapters on AO3. There are 14 chapters in total. You can read short excerpts here (Chapter 1), here (Chapter 2), here (Chapter 3), and here (Chapter 5) or you just click on the url linked in the title. I would really love, if you check it out.
Tumblr media
I don't know what's up with this story that it's continuing to do so poorly compared to my other multi-chapter stories. My beta, the wonderful @cecebeanie who has almost finished reading it, adores it and told me it made her cry (more than once!). Please help me spread it and I'd be grateful if you reblog this post 💜

Uh uh uh, character ask game sounds like a great chance to ramble about Vitya!! Please 5, 12, and 25 for our beloved russian cinnamon roll ⛸️🥇
send me a character (hint: i don't mind getting victor again!!!) + one or more of these question!
VITYAAAAAA OMG THANK YOU FOR PICKING HIM AAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! I'M TOTALLY normal about this ask wow.
okay, okay i'm calm. i'm fine. i can reply. deep breaths.
5. what's the first song that comes to mind when you think about him?
that's a good question! i have several songs that come to mind considering how his character and his relationship with Yuuri grow over the course of the anime, but during the first few eps, i totally feel like (if you're wondering if i want you to) i want you to by weezer fits Victor's time in Hasetsu! starting when he realized Yuuri wouldn't respond to his aggressive come-on tactics, and therefore spent the whole summer pining after him and dropping hints and still not getting what he'd initially come for x)
12. what's a headcanon you have for this character?
in a future AU where Victuuri has children, Victor is the strict dad!! to his human kids but not the pups obviously
don't get me wrong, he goofs around a lot and he adores playing and messing with his kids, he loves them soooo much and he shows them every single damn day, unlike his own parents (i hc them either as dead when he was young, or emotionally distant).
but imo, he's also very intent on not leaving them to their own devices to figure out shit on their own from an early age (like he had to do himself). these kids are going to be sat down and given multiple chances to explain themselves when they did something wrong, they're gonna get grounded (with a hug and a kiss, always, because proofs of love and affection are unconditional) when they deserve to, they're going to get a very extensive and absolutely mortifying Sex Talk with multiple hand picked recommendations for resources to find out more that Victor spent a whole ass month putting together, and they're not going to be (too) spoiled no matter how much it hurts Vitya's heart to stop himself from buying all the silly stuff he wants to (don't tell the kids, but he spoils Yuuri instead). i love picturing him being this unexpectedly responsible, and imagining Yurio continuously telling him that, of all the shit he pulled off in his life, this is by far the most surprising of the lot! *crying in Soft Victuuri Parents AU*
25. what was your first impression of this character? how about now?
well to be honest, i first thought he was basically a hot Himbo who was bored out of his mind and took the first excuse/flight he found to flee out of a life he couldn't stand anymore and get some adorable fan's dick on the other side of the world. which imo was equal parts Extra™️ + irresponsibly silly considering his career + incredibly brave... and then he needed like one week to fall in love and started pining like a fucking moron, which i found so, so damn endearing.
and THEN EPISODE TEN HAPPENED AND I- do i need to repeat the novel-length message i sent you about this the other day when we talked about this?? i don't think so. but i will say that this ep definitely made me fall even more in love with him, because it hints at so much unhappiness in his life before he met Yuuri??? and that only accentuates how brave he was to get himself out of that darkness and towards Yuuri's light (when he had no actual way of knowing how he'd be received, and was even severely rebuffed when he did get to Japan), i just.. i'm tearing up. he's a fucking legend, and i don't mean in the figure skating community only. i love him so much Nube!!!! *crying harder now*
