no but genuine question... how do the von karmas celebrate mother's day, if they do at all? i'm assuming it was different for everyone. the mental image of a little manny making pancakes for his ma is very cute and little nikolle making up a card full of glitter and hearts for the best mom (and prosecutor) is heartwarming. just leave it to nikolle and phoenix (bigger phoenix?) and unicorn.

biggest flex is gandulf having three moms and his kids having three grannies, go webers!

Truth be told, I haven't thought about it much, so while I have been Stardewing some Valleys, I have been thinking about it. (It does help that I have recently added the Ridgeside Village mod and have been meeting the Amethynes. The butler is unfortunately not romanceable and neither is the grumpy scientist at the river, but oh well, my farmer is already married, we don't have to make this into a dating sim, just this once.)

I don't think Frieda got to know her mother much, so she didn't get to really celebrate Mother's Day... which is probably why it wasn't much of a thing for her.

Herman and Siegfried grew up attending a public school. A very good school, but still it brought up teachers having certain expectations about what is celebrated in families, and so they both had to make "Happy Mother's Day" card every year in their Crafts & Arts class. Mother Frieda thought the result a garbage and the boys did completely agree with her, but they still had to make them. So they made a tradition of ceremoniously throwing out the cards or paper flowers or whatever dust-collecting decoration the teacher had them make, and instead they were allowed to paint something with Frieda's oils or temperas or watercolors, and if it was good, Frieda hung it up in the gallery for a year and then replaced it with whatever they made next year. Siegfried was a disaster with paints, though, and since he quickly got out of the house to study abroad, his pictures had never quite made it.

Friedrich and Manfred most likely had to deal with private tutors and as such their mother got to have a say about that. Therefore they had probably practiced a short poem of a noteworthy poet and showed off some musical skills. There probably were pancakes for breakfast as a celebration, but I don't think that Manfred actually got to cooking until he was an adult trying to live on his own. But once he was an adult and visited his mother, he definitely made pancakes for breakfast, Mother's Day or not, because he was happy to see her. (Herman probably never got pancakes made specifically for him. He was respected, he was obeyed, he was feared, but frankly both of his children had to reach the conclusion that they would have been better off without him, at least mentally.)

Wolfgang and Markov (and Siegfried) celebrated with their mother with a picnic outside. Once they were old enough to carry some responsibilities and be allowed with a sharp knife without supervision (here Siegfried disagreed that five was old enough, but he conceded that fine, sharp knives and going alone on public transport only once they start attending the elementary school), it meant that they prepared and planned the picnic and took care of mother's duties for the day. Hence Markov knowing how to do laundry and knowing that he absolutely hates it.

Helena, Leonore and very baby Franziska probably also got to celebrate with pancakes, the secret of the perfect von Karma pancakes passed down from Manfred to the eldest daughter and from thereto the younger ones. then Ms. von Karma was tragically lost to the world before Franziska was old enough to fold a frying pan without being outweighed and outbalanced by it, so she might have never actually learned how to make the perfect pancakes. It's not like Manfred kept his personal cooking notes in public access...

Gandulf, if he rememberes when Mother's Day is, gifts his mothers decorations that eh hand-made. As a young boy it was exactly that kind of dust-producing trinkets Frieda hated, but nowadays it's intricate engineering stuff, and actually last year he named after his mothers the three core segments of the space probe that was sent to monitor the moons of Neptune!

Nikolle (besides being taught the pancake secret) always pick a theater play or a concert, purchases the tickets from her allowance (and as she gets older, from her savings from her part-time jobs), and they attend as a family. One year she tried to have a teenage rebellion and picked out a death metal band only to find out later when Arnborg was "randomly" picked out of the crowd and pulled on stage that a) her dad can absolutely shred it, and much to the horror of both the ladies, b) said dad used to be a member of the band long long time before she was born, back when he was still attending the university. Since then Nikolle does a thorough background check on whatever she wants to attend.

Ilse, Jörgun and Gretchen do not celebrate Mother's Day on the accounts of their mother not living with them anymore. Ilse and Jörgun used to celebrate it by performing a dance number and taking over the kitchen, but that's pretty much it.

Not to speak for Vani regarding Keks, but if Edith got to have a say about Mother's Day, it was "Don't."

Karma Christmas is a fic in which Miles is bullied/politely asked by Franziska not to wriggle out of yet another family Christmas gathering. So Miles brings out the heavy artillery: his more-or-less-boyfriend.

So basically Phoenix (and Trucy) are meeting the extended von Karma family including such fun people as a Manfred’s older daughter, you know, the mother of the granddaughter who has a dog called Phoenix in AA1-5? And also the uncle once removed responsible for Franziska’s weapon training. And his brother who shows up unexpectedly and is being a menace. And the rocket engineer.

Phoenix is going to leave Germany with the distinctive impression that Manfred was actually a rather normal and kind person, all things considered.

I’ve been drawing what is probably the last straight up redraw of one of the manga episodes before I start actually doing something original for awhile, but I decided that I should do a character casting spread. Then I was like, there aren’t enough characters on it so I did a bunch more. I’m basically at a casting rule where except for Von Karma (and maybe Shelly DeKiller) if you are from DGS, you are an adult in this universe, if you are from AA you are a kid, and if you’re from Khura’in or Investigations you are most likely going to be an older kid. I have a whole insane explanation for how Manfred has so many kids with hyphenated names :) I also actually have a whole Taka origin story episode in my head, where Simon doesn’t actually arrive at Themis with him. If you’ve been following my madness you may have notice that Sholmes was originally going to be Franky, but then I realised that he’s way more Daybreak (this is the mission I’m in the middle of drawing) so I kind of decided based on hair for Albert to be ‘Bertie’, but now that I’ve totally caught up on the Manga and have seen some backstory it also kind of makes sense even though Albert isn’t really cynical enough.

Apparently some Ace Attorney fans don’t like this Plot Beat in the PLVSAA game? Like, they feel that it disrespects Phoenix or puts in on a lower rung of importance compared to Layton? But I really disagree, I have some other issues with PLVSAA, but this moment? That’s a perfect Phoenix Wright moment that shows a real understanding of his character and his appeal.

Because Phoenix Wright always shoves his nose right into the center of stories where he was not supposed to be in. That’s what he’s been doing since the beginning.

Just look at the plot of the very first game! It’s all about Manfred von Karma and his Big Ass Weirdo Grudge against the whole Edgeworth family all two of them. In many ways, even if the AA narrative doesn’t typically use that framing - Manfred is kind of a Storyteller in a way, creating the Story of Miles Edgeworth’s tragedy and patricide.

And in that ‘Story’, Phoenix was a minor character at best. He was just an ordinary kid who knew Miles for a few months in fourth grade, He’s not tied in with the Family Drama, he doesn't have any obvious special talents or anything. From any outsider's perspective on Miles' whole life, there's no reason to think his 4th Grade Best Friend would by in any way Important for anything but Tragic Flasbacks. But Phoenix put himself into that narrative. For him, Miles’ kindness and friendship for these few months of childhood are just as important as anything in Manfred’s Story.

He got himself into law and shoved himself right into Miles Edgeworth’s story despite how ridiculous it all is. And so, even as Manfred disregarded him as just yet another unimportant interchangeable Defense Attorney to be crashed under his heel - didn’t even remember his name and face- Phoenix was still the one to defeat him. Even as Manfred left the courtroom still cursing Edgeworth’s name - Phoenix has made himself, by choice, into the Hero of that Story.

Miles and Maya would be Main Characters in anything related to the DL-6 mess whatever they’d like to or not, it’s just tied-up so heavily into their life and their traumas. Phoenix is the one who chose to be a Main Character in that Story.

And that’s something that kind of repeats with a lot of the narratives Phoenix gets into. Because he’s, like, the one AA character without a Dramatic Backstory outside of the Class Trial, Phoenix is usually either playing backup to the real main characters of the narrative - or once again, making himself the Main Character out of sheer determination and love and desire to help others and choice.

And doing it again in PLvsPW, establishing that he and Maya butted into both the Storyteller and Darklaw’d Stories just because they were both driven and curious and kind and wanted to help Espella so bad… that’s just perfect, especially for a story all about Stories that’s just perfect.

The thing that I keep thinking about is the few times AA has Stories that are definitively about Phoenix without him butting in or stumbling into someone else’s Story. ‘Justice for All’ is one, but it doesn’t really have a Grand Overarching Narrative. It’s more of a Phoenix Wright Character Study via a series of vignettes. The AA game that really has Phoenix at the center of a Story is ‘Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney’.

To continue the PLvsPW metaphor, AJAA is really the game between a bunch of rival Storytellers - PLvsPW had Arthur Vs. Evelyn, AJAA has Kristoph Vs Phoenix. Kristoph weaved a Story with Phoenix’s downfall at its center - and Phoenix waited until he had the chance to return the favor. I mean, I dunno, maybe my metaphor is a touch stretched but… Hobonick really is the closest thing to the Storyteller in the mainline AA games. The final AJAA case is almost literally him ‘designing’ a trial for his own purposes.

And the interesting thing is how controlling and railroading he is as a Storyteller figure. For someone who’s based his own entire damn life on defying the Stories and plans of others, he really does not let his own ‘Main Characters’ - least of all Apollo - that same sort of metanarrative agency.

Dear Fantrialcool,

How interesting that fans will make trial stories of me against Mr. Phoenix Wright with a crime scene in a military barracks. My kind of trial.

However, I will have you know that my papa has taught Miles and I Japanese and has given us Japanese names. The von Karma's are descendants of a Japanese family of Prosecutors and Samurais. So naturally, the language and culture is in our blood.

Miles Edgeworth would never have trouble on a Japanese airline over a foolish language barrier.

Oh, yeah, I’m a bit familiar with the Japanese dub of Assassin’s Creed and I watch Demon Slayer when it’s airing in Japan then I rewatch it in the English dub because I enjoy watching English dubs in general XD.

For the actual ask portion:

Altaïr would probably be annoyed at Uzui at first because he’s so flashy. They’d probably spar and Altaïr would start to respect him after understanding that, underneath all that ‘flashiness’, Uzui is strong and has conviction (side note: Uzui’s three wives makes me think Makio - Maria, Hinatsuru - Adha and Suma - Kadar XD)

Ezio would think of Sanemi as having skills and potential but he won’t like his attitude. AC2!Ezio would definitely butt heads with Sanemi a lot, especially after he sees how Sanemi acts around his younger brother (since he doesn’t know the whole story) and he’d definitely try to act like a nice big brother to Genya, Brotherhood!Ezio and Revelations!Ezio would not be provoked by Sanemi and act more like an older brother/mentor role that Sanemi doesn’t want at all and thinks is super annoying.

Haganezuka would totally like Ratonhnhaké:ton because Ratonhnhaké:ton would take care of any weapon he receives from Haganezuka. Ratonhnhaké:ton will also be willing to listen to Haganezuka talk about swords for houurrrss. Achilles would have to be the one to smack Haganezuka to get out of the homestead after giving Ratonhnhaké:ton his sword. (Why is Achilles there? Idk, crossover???)

All I can think of is Arno getting adopted by the Kamado family. Tanjuro is quite frail and he’s been sick for a while now so their meeting would probably remind Arno of his late father. But, man, just imagine Arno dancing Hinokami Kagura…

Oh god. Enmu would totally fuck with Jacob using his dreams/nightmares. Like, every pain and weakness Jacob has, Enmu would take advantage of it. Worst of all? Jack the Ripper's actions would definitely haunt Jacob till the day he dies so Enmu using Jack in the attack would really hurt. Enmu wasn’t even a good person as a human but considering Jacob’s luck and bad judge of character? Absolutely won’t be surprised if he invites human!Enmu to the Rooks as a ‘doctor’.

I think Bayek has a good chance of taking out Yahaba. Dude got an actual flaming sword in the main story and I’m sure Reda would have a weapon made of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore for some reason and, as long as Bayek understood how Yahaba’s blood demon art works, he’d be fine. Bayek took out giant gods (in the Animus), he can take out this demon.

Oh, Aya would not like Daki at all. She might even be reminded of Cleopatra a bit because of her arrogant and dismissive personality which wouldn’t help the situation. They’d definitely fight and… Aya would probably need help on this one. I’m not sure if she ever got into any Isu BS that ended in a boss fight so I can’t be sure how she would handle fighting Daki and her obi attacks. Human!Daki though? Aya would definitely recruit her and her brother to the Hidden Ones if she found them as kids. But if she saw her as her usual cruel self? Yeah, Aya’s not going to like her.

WELL Manfred Von Karma raised Miles Edgeworth, but he's not his biological dad. He's a prosecutor who took Miles in after the death of Miles' father, Gregory Edgeworth (a defense attorney). If you're into fucked up situations (which I believe you are as a Saw fan) then it's a fun little family dynamic, because Manfred Von Karma is the one who killed Gregory in the first place.

So, this AU! It has vampire von Karmas in it, right? Why vampires? And if anyone else has been changed to the supernatural, who and why?

I called it a vampire AU despite it being more like a vampire hunter AU AHASDJS.

I mean, Manfred is a vampire so I guess he kinda counts, there's also a teeny tiny scenario (or the AU of an AU, whatever it is) where Franziska is one too.

Some friends and I were expanding on the von Karmas since they have big European family™ and it felt like a crime that there weren't any more of them so, half the family, Siegfried's branch (he himself, his two sons, his one grandson and and three great grandchildren) is entirely made up of werewolves.

There's also Manfred's granddaughter, Nikolle (yeah, the one he mentioned), who is a Dhampir, her mom is human and father was a vampire. Explaining that to her was like, really awkward.

Shelly de Killer is also a vampire, but a vampire who hunts other vampires.

Was asked about the role the Fey clan would have in this AU, and I said they'd be vampire hunters but now I'm not really sure.

ANYWAYS with the disclosure statement out of the way . 1) his design slays what else is there to say. he was always serving. 2) the fanon SUCKS like im sorry but if what you got out of aa1 + investigations 1&2 was "manfred physically beat his kids on the regular and they hate him so much forever with 0 complicated feelings at all" um. maybe go back and re-consume the text. please. lets indulge ourselves in a bit of nuance. i would certainly not call manfred von karma father of the year (whatever was going on with turnabout goodbyes + me when i encourage my children in their fight with each other to determine who truly belongs in the family like a normal parent) but like. guys . just because he was a bad person doesnt mean he is now The Worst Guy in every single avenue ever. like. sigh . sorry we've looped back around to complaining about bad fanon. tldr: dahlia should get to kill and ruin whoevers lives she wants i support her unconditionally (no this does not conflict with my diego opinions. i can hold multitudes) un-tldr: to be honest her in-game writing kind of sucks (spectacular essay written on this here, which frankly puts it better than i ever could. thats the problem with this part im trying to think of opinions that arent covered in that but like it really hits all of them) but nonetheless as a notable fan of the Fey Family Period Drama how could i not love dahlia given that shes like one of the key pieces of evidence of the mass destruction that the current system in kurain causes to everybody it touches. "wahhh she was just Born Evil" not listening dont care. people also hate her for being mean to phoenix i think but i dont care about that either they just hate to see a girlboss winning. or losing tbh because thats like 80% of what dahlia did. but like still the spirit is there. also to be honest it kills me that we got like no elaboration on her relationship with iris because thats like actually SO interesting its so interesting but we get NOTHINGGGGGGGGG because the aa writers hate dahlia and they hate ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but anyways yeah if dahlia wants to maim and kill well then i support her #feminism #womensupportingwomen #terrymightnothavebeenamurderer #buthesurewasapedophile!

5) Jigoku. I like him, but I haven't thought much of him lol. The twist caught me by surprise, that's for sure, and it's fun to rewatch G1-1 and G1-2 after you know his deal. Yeah I wouldn't mind exploring his relationship with Stronghart ;)

4) Stronghart. What brings him down is how blatantly evil he is ever since you lay your eyes on him, and how GAA2 shifts from blaming British society to pinning all of the evils that happened to the cast on this dude. I think you could have done more with his gimmick of time tied with his control freakness. He was fucking terrifying as a judge though, and he has no question the best breakdown in the series, so that saves him :P

3) Asougi. Again, not a character I thought much of (I'm more of a Klint fan lmao), but he's cool! He was a sadly realistic victim of systemic xenophobia, but through and through an honorable samurai who cared deeply about both van Zieks brothers. It's also kind of funny that he, of all people, indirectly founded the Karuma/von Karma family :P

2) Sholmes. Yeah, count me in as one of the many who was won over by his zaniness lmao. I was honestly shocked to discover that he too had his shadier side ("Great detectives are wont to lie"). By the end, you almost get the feeling that a good chunk of his silliness was deliberate to "mentor" Ryuu :)

1). Barok. My favorite character in the series, very close to Ryuu :) yeah yeah I know all about the controversy and I have my feelings about it, but I don't know what to tell you, I love his flair (now that I've played CV his Dracula-esque mannerisms are even more hysterical), how under his theatricisms and unpleasant attitude he's one of the best and most honest prosecutors in the series, how he grows to be interested in Ryuu, how much he vocalizes his respect by the end, the unfairness of his backstory, and also best theme.
