" Throughout this period [after WWII] we can also get a sense of the kindness of this 'mild-mannered' man, as Ernie began to take notice of people's situations during his work. If he saw a home with no fire burning during the cold months he would later return to leave a bag of coal on the doorstep. He would often set out early for work, giving himself enough time to clean the windows free of charge for many who could not afford to pay. He would also give his time to a number of charities, and even sent crates of oranges to Russia when he heard that people were starving there.
(..) By [1944] it was also clear that young Alan had a bad speech impediment. At first, the family doctor tried to help Alan. He was then sent to have hypnosis therapy, but it failed to help him control his stammer. A stutter back in those days was not looked upon kindly, with those who stammered being classed as stupid. He also had a new hobby - fire. He would light fires on the bombed areas that he played on, then wait until the firemen arrived to put the fire out, fascinated as he watched them. Alan attended Broad Green Infants and Juniors school. He liked it, but struggled with his speech.
Although his stammer was rather severe, Alan would not let it hold him back. He loved playing out, was full of energy, and had turned into a practical joker, telling one teacher who asked him his name that it was 'Alan Cornflake' as it was easier for him to say than Caldwell. "

Clanmew Masterpost
Clanmew is a constructed language made for Warrior Cats that I, @bonefall, run with my buddy @troutfur! I make the vocab and he does the grammar. I hope that this post will become a good, central place to keep links to everything we've done so far.
CURRENT VERSION: 1.0
LAST UPDATE: 6/3/2023
Clanmew is an OSV-order language, made with the sounds cats make in mind. "Base Clanmew" is built around the Clan Culture updates of the Better Bones AU, which means it is made with the ecology of southwestern Northern England in mind and only contains words for plants and animals found there. It also has phrases for cooking and crafting.
(specific regions modeled: Lancashire, Chester, Manchester, Merseyside, Clwydd is modeled for river biomes specifically)
You are free to use it for your own projects! We encourage you to consider how this language would evolve in your Clan's history, and add or remove words to make a dialect that reflects the culture's feelings and needs.

Two breast pockets which were slitted (jetted) and in the shape of a bird in flight, the two side pockets corresponded. The cuffs had to be folded back with a cloth-covered button. His trousers had no pleats in the front, not normal in those days, and he was by far the very first person to have two slits at the bottom side seam of the trouser and he wanted them folded back with cloth covered buttons to match the cuffs on his jacket. The workshop queried the order when they received thinking we had gone bonkers. George got his suit and was pleased with the outcome. Welcome everyone to my page! I am a mostly mutuals only blog, but if you see an open in the tags you’re more than welcome to answer it even if we don’t follow each other! Some of the best partners are found that way, but just know I might be selective at times when it comes to muse and such. PLEASE DON’T PESTER ME IF I DO NOT FOLLOW YOU BACK. I play both female and male characters (there is an obvious lean towards females) and while I’m not here to say you have to double up with one of my girls to get my guys, just know those threads might come a bit slower at times. I don’t try to drop threads without at least making some sort of PSA post about it though, so keep an eye out for them if I don't come directly to you with it!
When it comes to pairings, all of my men are straight and a majority of my ladies are bisexual! Leading the bulk of my threads to lean either towards m/f or f/f, but at the time of updating this (7/23/2023) I will not be including m/m content on my blog in a sexual sense. I have nothing against it, but I will not write it I am sorry 🖤 When writing a starter though, I will always include the preferences at the top so there is no confusion.
All standard rules apply here, don't be a dick and we should get along fine. Discord is more likely to be given out to people whom I have plotted with a little bit at least on here already, I just have to know it’s not gonna flop and go nowhere within a day or two. That, and it is now the place where all of my kinkier plots go to be written as to spare the dash as much as possible.

I feel like me learning about Rory Storm is sort of the Beatles history experience in a nutshell. You start with a bit of factual information: Before joining The Beatles, Ringo Starr played drums for a group called Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
Then it turns out to have a cute, what-a-small-world component to it: Rory (real name: Alan Caldwell) had a sister named Iris who dated both George and Paul at various times when they were young. Also, George auditioned for Rory's first band, but they didn't want him because he was too young. (Story of George's life.)
Then the cute story gets a tiny bit weirder: Rory and Iris' mother Violet was a surrogate mother figure for Paul in particular, and in their early days, the Beatles used to go to their house after shows, and she would comb his leg hair. (??) Also per Tune In, they called her husband 'the Crusher' because "he had exotic nightmares and ate household objects." This is not elaborated on.
Then it turns out the cute/weird story has a horrifically tragic ending: Rory Storm died of a sleeping pill overdose in 1972, sometime after his father's death, and when his mother found his body, she committed suicide. They were both found dead together.
Part of the challenge of trying to understand real people is that there's just so much you'll never know about, but it can also be hard to really synthesize all the public information into a semi-cohesive whole and bear it in mind when you're thinking about what they were going through at any particular time. In the '70s in particular, people were dying all around the former Beatles - friends, family, ex-bandmates, musical peers, musical role models - and that must have had some kind of effect.

More Cantessy Halloween costumes! It was hard to think of one for Holly cuz most of the ice-related characters I'm familiar with are either dudes (not that she'd have a problem dressing as a dude if I hadn't settled on this choice ofc) or "sexy", and Holly isn't one for revealing clothing due to the climate around Sheeneland. Not to mention the only ice AND horse thing I could think of was Glastrier, and I wanted to challenge myself by not having the costumes be Pokemon or other trainers. Then when I had one of the "sexy" ice ladies in mind, I remembered another ice lady whose outfit would work--Ursula from Xenoblade 2! Too bad there's no Beartic in the Cantessy dex, then it could stand in for Beary hehe X3 And yeah, y'all can already tell I'm still leaning into Laura's accidental resemblance to a certain village vamp. Never played the game myself and probably won't ever, but still XD

Organized in the fall of 1942 in Iowa, the all-black Thirty-Second and Thirty-third Women’s Auxiliary Army Companies would become the first contingent of WAACS assigned to a military installation in the US during WWII. Composed of nearly 200 auxiliaries and seven officers, company members completed six weeks of intensive training in Iowa before reporting to Fort Huachuca, on December 4, 1942. The army post was the largest African American military post in the country. The units were assigned to the Ninth Service Command and the post headquarters. Under the command of the first group of Fort Des Moines’s graduating class of African American commissioned officers—Irma Jackson Cayton, Vera Ann Harrison, Frances Alexander, Violet Askins, Natalie Donaldson, Mary Kearney, and Corrie Sherard—auxiliaries ably performed clerical and administrative work as stenographers, typists, telephone switchboard operators, clerks, messengers, receptionists, and motor pool drivers and mechanics. The positions held by the WAACs and the duties they performed cohered with the racial and gendered employment policies developed by senior Army leaders and Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps officials, relieving the men of the Ninety-third Infantry Division. Auxiliaries of the Thirty-second and Thirty-third companies quickly enhanced the training programs at Fort Huachuca. The successful performances of Auxiliaries Priscilla Taylor and Reba Caldwell while working with a Ninety-third Infantry division convoy during its desert training exercises garnered admiration and praise. And WAAC recreational officers Geraldine Bright and Mercedes Jordan created All WAAC Musical Revues, Glee Clubs, and USO comedies, providing precious moments of levity for the uniformed servicewomen and men training at the desert installation. They were subject to intense scrutiny grounded in prevailing sexual stereotypes and innuendo at nearly every turn. The Thirty-Second and Thirty-Third Post Headquarters Companies continued to serve at Fort Huachuca.
