UUUUUUGGHHH the angst... it's delicious. I think Ace might be the easiest for Marco to persuade, so he might go to him first, but having the wool ripped away from his eyes might make him spiral. He's already someone who sees himself as a monster, who struggles with self-loathing... and Marco showing him how you fall apart when you think you're finally alone has him noticing the way you tense up and go so, so quiet whenever he touches you. Everything the others have been calling "good behavior" is a practiced reaction, ones you're desperately trying to keep up with out of fear. And he hates it. He remembers when you first joined- you were nervous, but happy to be there, excitable and eager to learn. You were friends, then. You did a lot together, he was the one person who really started to draw out your rambunctious side... You're not like that anymore. A lot quieter. Won't look at them directly unless asked, won't really ask to do anything new. And he picks up on how hurt, but resigned you look whenever he goes off to do something adventurous without you- fun you're never allowed to have again. You're the only one who isn't free. Why did it take him so long to notice? He feels sick. And maybe one night, after you've been sent to bed early again, since Marco insists to everyone you're unwell, and really, who's gonna risk questioning that- He's up on deck with Izou and/or Thatch, looking out at the sea. "When... was the last time either of you... really saw y/n smile?" He pauses. The silence is thick, but he pushes on. "When was the last time they were actually happy..?"

Like the “when was the last time-?” That sentiment. The weight of it. It’s perfect 🤩

Ace taking the hit of realizing that he has become a monster of sorts - at least to you, and at that point it may as well be to the rest of the world. The idea that the yandere vibes aren’t exactly intentional, but a kind of madness that snuck up on the four of them.

Something they rationalized that hadn’t been there before you, that hadn’t rushed in after you, but that had built slowly over the course of weeks and months.

The times they told themselves you’d “really” fight back if you weren’t happy, and your acquiescence was taken as agreement and not a matter of fear or survival.

Just how much more twisted it all becomes. And how it causes a fracture in the four of them. Marco sees it, gets Ace to see it, but Izou isn’t convinced. Cold and calculating he’s going to *prove* you like it, prove you’re happy, etc. Thatch would be in shock I think, hanging onto Izou like a lifeline, not wanting to face what he’s done.
