one of my ADHD life hacks is The Universe Splitter. Sometimes when I have decision fatigue, or feel stuck on an activity and unable to choose to do something else, I can circumvent it by selecting two options and letting a high-tech physics device tell me which universe I'm in.
A few weeks ago I was having trouble sleeping. (because I was camping in Wyoming, in the area with the highest number of grizzly bears in the lower 48. And my sister, who was living and sleeping inside the high-voltage electric bear fence, kept telling me about a griz who ate people in Banff. And how her neighbor got bluff charged awhile ago. And about a mule that stomped a grizzly off a teen boy and saved him. Right before I went outside of the bear fence to camp every single night!) So I put "keep reading" and "go to sleep" into the Universe Splitter app and...it didn't work because there was no cell service to reach the quantum device in Switzerland.
BUT. I have so powerfully conditioned myself to do what the Universe Splitter says, that I thought to myself "there is a universe where I go to sleep and it's this one," and fell asleep almost immediately
This app is more powerful than my concern about being eaten by a grizzly bear.

wip snip 4.2
thank you for the tag, @elskanellis! your snip is so intriguing 👀
in return, have some more of time travel fic: extremely gooey and tender and basically what the next 10k or so words are going to be (the fic is currently 20k lmao) before things get Bad again. still heartbreaking in its tenderness, though, because baby harry is heartbreaking (a contextual reminder that he is 7 in this snip!!! adult harry is henceforth "potter" from draco's pov).
“This is for me?” Harry asks, doing another turn, clutching at the still unnamed dragon in his hands. “All of this, the bed and—I can—”
“Harry,” Draco says softly, coming closer and dropping to crouch again, ignoring his protesting thighs starting to truly feel all the activity of the day. “Yes, all of this. You can sleep in the bed, you can name your toy—it’s all yours. This is what looking after you means; everything that I can offer is yours now. I promise.”
“Do I have to—” Harry starts, and Draco simply doesn’t want to hear where that’s going.
“No. You don’t have to do a single thing. It’s just yours. Because—because you’re a guest, and a kid, and kids deserve these sorts of things no matter what.”
“Oh,” Harry says, sounding genuinely startled in a way that makes Draco want to punch—someone. Perhaps Vernon or Petunia Dursley, or perhaps Albus Dumbledore. He did not ever imagine he would one day find new and more infuriating reasons to resent Dumbledore this long after his death, but he supposes life is surprising that way.
Harry breaks up his surprised, revelatory stance with another yawn, and this time Draco makes sure his tone brooks no argument when he directs him to the bathroom with the pajamas. To keep busy and shove down the punching urge, he resizes another set of clothes from the wardrobe for the morning, startling himself when he leans too far in and his hand disappears through the back wall.
“Oh, right, I should warn you,” Draco says when Harry returns, changed and padding gingerly towards the bed. “The wardrobe is a portal to the treehouse, so be careful if you go too far into it.”
“You have a treehouse?” Harry asks with a gasp, and Draco smiles at him, striding over and pulling the quilt back for Harry to settle in.
“You have a treehouse. I’ll show you tomorrow, if you’d like.”
He waits as Harry clambers onto the bed and settles against the mound of pillows, smoothing the quilt over him and then making sure the dragon is tucked in, too. “Any ideas on a name?” Draco asks softly, tweaking the dragon’s snout. “Do you want to sleep on it?”
“Can I name him after a—a con—a constellation? Like you?” Harry asks, frowning in concentration.
“Yes, of course you can. Which do you fancy?” Draco sits on the bed near Harry’s feet and leans back on his hands, gazing up at the ceiling as it cycles over them. “There’s Cygnus, the swan I was telling you about—he was my grandfather, you know, and right by Draco, so that’s convenient. There’s Pegasus, too, a type of flying horse, and Cepheus, he was a king in Ancient Greece—well, he chained his daughter up to a rock, so maybe not the best role model, but a cool name nonetheless. Just stop me if anything grabs you, really.”
“What’s that one?” Harry asks, squinting up and pointing; Draco makes a mental note to solve the glasses issue as soon as possible. He looks where Harry’s pointing, southwest of the quadrant he’d been explaining, and spots the most recognizable constellation there is.
“Ah, that’s Orion. The hunter. He was a Giant, you know, and he got pretty boastful, so Gaia—super powerful Earth mum, you did not want to get on her bad side—sent a great big scorpion after him. They fought, so you’ll never see Orion and Scorpius—that constellation all the way over there—in the sky at the same time. But Ophiuchus—he was a Healer, that one over there, see how he’s sort of between Orion and Scorpius? He gave Orion some medicine and saved him from Scorpius.”
Harry’s eyes are drooping closed, but he still murmurs, “Really? Is that all true?”
“Well, sort of. They’re stories, myths; all the stars have stories. There are different versions and they change depending on who you talk to, but I have my favorite versions because they’re the ones my mum told me.”
Draco checks in to see that Harry’s eyes are almost completely closed, and keeps talking hoping they’ll close further; how many times had his mother talked him to sleep?
“If you’re in the sky, it means you’re pretty important, right? So that means lots of stories. I’ll tell you all of them, if you’d like. I think you’ll enjoy this room, and you’ll be happy here. I hope so.”
That’s all verging on a ramble, but he thinks it doesn’t matter because Harry is asleep. So Draco gets up gently, patting Harry’s foot over the quilt, shoots the still unnamed dragon a grin, and starts to leave the room.
He stops only when he hears Harry mumble, “Orion. That’s his name,” and curl around the dragon, breathing going smooth and even, arms clutching it tight against his small frame.
Draco smiles at them both. “Goodnight, Harry and Orion.”

Splitter Girl (weevildoing)
Another night, I’m all alone, enthroned within a screen/RGB light reflects uncut orgasmic tragedies...Oh, I can’t stand these awful thoughts inside of me/Only way to compensate is lead and metal, sharp and clean!
"VIOLENCE. ITS ALL ABOUT VIOLENCE it got its mv censored to start. its not even justified but hey i cant say that about many songs lmao its about the glorification of violence from mental illness (and some other things, but really its generally all about mental illness), and is done extremely well. its extremely clear that theres a lot of care put into this song, and like... determination? i barely ever see representation of things like this (violent/intrustive thoughts, glorification of it, etc) in music, so seeing it here (and in a way that shows that weevildoing truly gets it + isn't patronizing) is really nice. really this song is like... a community? something to show that you arent alone. and i love that so much, i love how much has been put into this song, every single lyric and instrumental choice shows an abundance of love and care and understanding. and this song has an entire developed character to go with it, and is alongside multiple other songs! its a part of the post-traumatic manifesto, and the character featuring is Splitter Girl (no other name, which is on purpose). the song is basically her mind, and the mv (uncensored) her internet life. showing what she's searching, listening to, shopping for, etc. once again it hits the nail right on the head for what mental illness is like. the visuals are very unafraid and purposeful in the clips and websites it shows, up to blade shopping, #guro and how to tie nooses being included. it pulls no stops in showing what it's truly like to be so low, what it really feels like, the highs and lows of it. it's like a love letter to me, to everyone who feels this way, and thats why i love it so much. it doesnt demonize us. it offers a hand (with a glittery pink gun) and an understanding i said its all about violence but man. its all about being *understood.* and violence too"
Karma (AJR)
I've been so good, I've been helpful and friendly/I've been so good, why am I feeling empty?/I've been so good, I've been so good this year/I've been so good, but it's still getting harder/I've been so good, where the hell is the karma?/I've been so good, I've been so good this year
i try to explain the good faith that's been wasted / but after an hour, it sounds like complaining / wait, don't go away, can i lie here forever? / you say that i'm better, why don't i feel better? / the universe works in mysterious ways / but i'm starting to think it ain't working for me / doctor should i be good, should i be good this year?
You say that I'm better, why don't I feel better?/The universe works in mysterious ways/But I'm starting to think it ain't working for me/Doctor, should I be good, should I be good this year?
"The song embodies what it feels like to try with everything you have just to be unrecognised and pushed aside. To be overlooked and for people to not see your struggles. Each line is written with so much energy and emotion, not to mention how the last verse hits you like a truck. It's become a song that I resonate a lot with and so do a lot of other people."
"It makes me want to cry every time I listen to it, the emotion build at the end of the song makes my chest hurt, and the lyrics fit me way too well and its. aaoiuuhhgg"
"It is exactly what it feels like to struggle with depression, self-loathing, etc. I sob every time I listen to it or even think of it (I’m tearing up right now). It’s just so painful to be reminded that I genuinely used to feel that way constantly, and that I still struggle with it. And of course, the instrumental just feels like the inside of my brain."
"It's like, the feeling when you're trying your best, to be a good person, to be liked by everyone, and still end up getting nothing, your not happy(er) or better, you just still feel lonely and like it was all for nothing, and you end up asking yourself "does it even matter?" and you want to get help, to get better, to feel better, but still, it all feels the same."
POLL RUNNER HERE - VOTE KARMA THE LYRICS WILL DESTROY YOU. Especially the final verse/bridge where the singer just launches into one long breath of really raw lyrics - that's what ajr is all about. Destroying you with words that are real

I've never liked the meta because anything they can provide. Rex could just make a build for because tech in fiction is already busted a watch that let you walk in the shoe of every sentient creature in the universe, ring that harness emotion and can let you make weapons from your mind, a telephone booth that allow you to transcend time and space. And now a gravity maniputing mace, which I'm trying to figure out a name for, but right now, I'm going for cosmic splitter

The Murder of Linda Agostini: Was She Really "Pyjama Girl"?
Tumblr media
November 26, 2023
Florence Linda Agostini (Platt) was born on September 12, 1905 in South East London. She travelled to New Zealand at the age of 19, and lived there until 1927, when she then moved to Sydney, Australia.
Linda worked at a cinema and lived in a boarding house on Darlinghurst Road. It was said that Linda liked to drink and party a lot. She married an Italian man named Antonio Agostini in 1930, and it was not a happy marriage.
The couple moved to Melbourne, believing to be because her husband wanted Linda to get away from her partying friends.
In late August of 1934, Linda disappeared. A week later, an unidentified body of whom would later be dubbed "Pyjama Girl" was found in Splitter's Creek, near Albury.
The woman's body was found by a man named Tom Griffith, who was leading a prize bull along the road. Tom saw the body in a culvert running under the road and noted there had been a strong smell of kerosene present.
The body was badly burnt and had been hidden by a hessian grain sack, making it impossible for drivers to be able to see the body.
Pyjama Girl's head was wrapped in a towel, she had been beaten extensively, and upon an X-ray it was discovered she had a bullet in her neck. She was dubbed Pyjama Girl due to her wearing yellow silk pyjamas with a Chinese dragon motif. This clothing was known to be luxurious for the time.
It was determined that Pyjama Girl was petite and in her 20's, though her identity could not be found. The body was taken to Sydney, where it was put on public display. She was preserved at the Sydney University Medical School until 1942, where she was then transferred to police headquarters until 1944.
Some people suggested that Pyjama Girl could be a couple different women that had gone missing in the area, including Linda Agostini. Linda matched the physical characteristics as well as the age. However, New South Wales police did not believe Linda could be Pyjama Girl.
In 1944, 10 years since the discovery, forensic evidence was re-examined, and the body was matched to be Linda through dental analysis.
Linda's husband, Tony, had recently gone back to Sydney, after being held in internment camps from 1940 to 1944. Police commissioner, William MacKay, who had known Tony from before the war, interviewed him and noticed that Tony was quite nervous.
Tony then confessed to killing his wife, Linda, stating that he had accidentally shot her when they lived in Melbourne. Tony drove Linda's body over the state border to Albury, and had dumped her in the culvert. He set Linda's body on fire to destroy the evidence.
Tony was charged with murder and extradited back to Melbourne and tried for murder. He was acquitted on the murder charge but found guilty of manslaughter. Tony was sentenced to 6 years in prison but served only 3 years. He was released in 1948 and deported to Italy, dying in 1969.
While the case is technically solved, many doubt that Linda is the true identity of Pyjama Girl. In a 2004 book, written by historian Richard Evans on the case, he believes that Tony's conviction was the result of police corruption.
It was also stated that Pyjama Girl had brown eyes, while Linda had blue eyes and the two women had different bust sizes and different shaped noses. Richard Evans also claims that 125 women were on the police list of possible identities, and not eliminated or traced.

i never used e-ink tablet however my ereader has bluetooth so i got myself one of those universal pilots that let you turn the pages, go back etc. you can find them on amazon easily. i could also technically use a bluetooth keyboard but i never tried
unfortunately the remarkable 2 does not have bluetooth :/
i picked it because it was fairly cheap and there's a robust hacking community for it (it basically is just normal linux under the hood!), and i had SEEN BLOG POSTS ONLINE about people who got external keyboards to work with it, but in the intervening time, remarkable released their own external keyboard and changed the interface by which keypress events are sent to the epub/pdf viewing software (it's been a while since i fucked with this so i don't remember exactly what changed). so i have a Y-splitter on the usb-c port that i CAN plug a normal keyboard into, and even get keypress events iirc, but they just... don't turn the pages.

I entered text from my website and all of Rich’s review into robotchatmeup and this. With a bit of tweaking, probably good enough.
In my art, I explore the marriage of old-school video feedback with modern technology. Through a unique HD Video Feedback Kinetic Sculpture, I craft intricate fractals and organic shapes in real-time, akin to playing a musical instrument.
My creation stands out by providing precise control with hue, contrast, brightness, and saturation knobs on HD monitors—a contrast to typical video feedback. Using a beam-splitter glass setup, I unleash emergent biological shapes and behaviors.
The evolution of my Device mirrors the evolving images it produces. Within minutes of observation, it unveils the transformation of life forms, from microscopic cells to enigmatic, quasi-intelligent entities.
This work prompts contemplation on the origins of life itself—whether a product of sophistication, a twist of fate, or a fusion of both. It raises questions about the role of creator, proof, or destroyer of godly notions.
As an artist, I'm drawn to the organic metaphors inherent in this sculptural process. It reminds us of the feedback loops that govern our world—ecosystems, geology, and society, all driven by inherent rules.
While my art may currently echo the limitations of technology, I aspire to push creative boundaries. As I boldly declare, "I would destroy the Universe if given the chance - and it would be beautiful." My work invites you to ponder the intersection of technology, nature, and existential inquiry.
