Leon Kennedy is Autistic: An Analysis by an Autistic Person

DISCLAIMER: This post and all the points I make are highly based on my OWN experiences. I often find parallels between my experiences as a disabled individual and characters I love to help me better cope with and process my feelings. Hate will not be tolerated!!!

Before I get started, I’d like to say that this is not even me scratching the SURFACE of the things I could analyze about Leon and apply to various autistic experiences, this is mostly just the things that resonate with me the most.

Parallel Play/Preferring to Work Alone

It could be attributed to trauma, and the fact he works in a government agency, but Leon has always been the flying solo type. Missions in which it would be better if multiple people worked on it (RE4) HOWEVER! Whenever he does work with others, he often goes off on his own and leaves whoever he's with to deal with what's there (DI, Leon going off immediately after being vaccinated by Rebecca)

Difficulty Communicating/Identifying Emotions

This also plays into the difficulty making friends and maintaining friendships aspect of being autistic. There isn't any direct/obvious representations of this occurring in the franchise, but it can be inferred based upon his interaction with Chris and Rebecca in RE: Vendetta when the two try to recruit Leon on their mission because of the intel he has on the type of BOWs they're dealing with. Speaking of RE: Vendetta, it can also be noted that Leon copes with his inability to cope with/regulate his emotions by drinking, and this is a habit he always had. In fact, he's essentially hung over in RE2, having drunk his feelings away after being broken up with the night before the Raccoon City incident, and he is literally drinking on the job in Damnation. Essentially, he's canonically an alcoholic. As an autistic person, sometimes I would turn to unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with my emotional dysregulation, especially when I was unaware that I was autistic.

Leon isn't a very emotional person in general, again, It could be chalked up to trauma, but lack of emotional expression is also a common experience/trait amongst autistics.

“Inappropriate” Responses to Situations

GODDDD this one is SO prominent in RE4R (hell, even the OG), Infinite Darkness actually everything he's in, I can name at LEAST 2 examples of this. To keep this short, I'll just name ones that I relate painfully hard to, and ones that I find hilarious.

To start, WHENEVR HE JUST SAYS "ok 🧍" in response to an emotional moment. RE2R, when Claire introduces him to Sherry, in RE4R, when Ashley hugs him and expresses her relief that he's okay, and in Infinite Darkness whenever he checks up on Patrick after the White House Outbreak. It never fails to make me lose it because he's just like me fr.

Thists a sillier one, but I want to mention it because it's so mecore.

When Leon sends selfies of him on missions. That's it. He just sends it to Hunnigan and I think it's great.

Sensory Issues

Okay, I KNOW LEON IS A GOVERNMENT AGENT AND NEEDS SOME LEVEL OF GEAR ON MISSIONS BUT!!!!! Half the time he isn't even wearing a full set, not even a bullet proof vest. HOWEVER, I did notice that one thing he CONSISTENTLY wears (with the exception of a few instances) is GLOVES!!! This is more of a personal headcannon, but I like to think he's sensitive to texture, especially when handling guns and such, so he wears gloves, so it doesn't feel as terrible. To further back up his sensitivity to texture, in Death Island, after the Dylan BOW explodes and splashes water everywhere, Chris doesn't seem to care about being covered in water while Leon is flicking the water off him.

Literal Thinking - Coming off as Rude/Inappropriate Unintentionally

GODDDDD this is another big one, but I’ll only cover the ones that I relate to a lot to save time. Starting with his initial encounter with Jill in Death Island, they’re being chased by lickers and…well..this interaction

Exhibit B: This scene. He’s just so nonchalant about it and I do the exact same thing without like…intentionally being a “smartass” or whatever, I’m just being honest 🧍. Jill’s “Oh😒” at the end of the scene is really what made it hit home, because that’s how people typically react when i have a similar interaction with them

ANOTHER THING!!! All of the instances in which Leon casually asks “so you wanna get dinner?” Or something along those lines. It’s often interpreted as a poor attempt at flirting, but personally, I think he genuinely just wants food, and he doesn’t understand why ppl are like 🤨 when he asks. He just wants a nice dinner with a nice lady :(

Hyper-empathy

Small disclaimer here, autism is a SPECTRUM. And our empathy levels fluctuate every day. In Leon’s case, I see him being hyper-empathetic, much like myself. And being able to empathize so easily with people is incredibly draining. Additionally, a huge thing that is common among autistics is how we tend to respond to people who are sharing their struggles with us sharing our OWN experiences that are similar to theirs, and it often comes off as egocentric and selfish to “make it about us”, but in reality, that’s our way of saying that we understand what you’re going through, and it helps us process how you may be feeling as well. There are many scenes I could pull from, but I want to talk about one specifically in Infinite Darkness since it resonates so much with me:

The scene within ID in which Jason is having a nightmare, and Leon wakes him up, immediately asking him if he wants to talk about it. Jason recalls the nightmare and his trauma about Penamstan to Leon, and says that he has no idea what it was like, and Leon responds talking about his experience in Raccoon City, and how that affected him similarly

Special Interests & Using Media to Communicate Feelings

There are many aspects of this I could talk about, but I’ve already written 10 pages worth already in this post, so I’ll speed through it.

Personally, I think Leon has a special interest in film! He makes several references throughout the franchise, many of which are overlooked. Personally, my favorite reference he makes is in RE: Vendetta to Pulp Fiction (I think) when Chris and Rebecca confront him during his “vacation”

Final Notes/Conclusion

I had to cut a LOT out from my original mini-essay I wrote about this to fit it better on here, and make it not as boring to read lmao, but I hope you enjoyed my silly little analysis! I love being able to relate my experiences to others, fictional or otherwise, as it helps me feel less alone, and be able to process and cope with what makes my disability a…well, a disability. Why isn't there more talk about Mihawk and Law?

They both:

-are stoic bitches

-don't like their peace disrupted (otherwise you'll suffer severe consequences)

-look like they sleep in a coffin

-have piercing golden/amber eyes (Law looks good with grey, but it'll always be amber for me)

-are goatee enthusiasts

-wield a long ass sword

-like to play with their "food"

-enjoy extravagant clothing choices

-rather go on solo missions than get their control snatched away

-run on coffee/wine (do not separate!)

-joined the warlords

-are nerds in their respective field

-unintentionally hilarious

......

I need interactions, their dynamic would be so awkward but hilariously interesting.

working on big trhings (no i'm not)

everytime i draw grian his demeanor is wildly different and i find that hilarious

anyways, here's the plan:

Grian is an Avain Shifter, meaning he can change the type of bird his appearance takes after at will (he typically matches this to his surroundings pretty well!) Essentially, the color, shape, and texture of his wings change to match the bird he's shifted with at that time. His own wingspan is typically about double that of the associated bird. It's also common to see parts of his body sprout feathers, such as along his arms or legs. He typically plucks these, though painfully so. He can also lose control of this power, causing a rapid shift between various birds he's taken on in the past, though the Owl seems to be the most frequent form he takes unintentionally as it seemed to be his go-to before the parrot. :3

i only havw the 3rd life design finalized at the moment, but i have bird forms picked out for other series' along with bits from hermitcraft seasons (ex: i have the permit office saga as a Shoebill Stork, because i think he'd want to be as unsettling as possible)

they don’t talk about their past but they were scared of people before due to issues but they have hope in humans but are kind and help out with things like strategies I just think it would a wholesome yet fun idea to work with

♡ Luffy ♡

✶ Luffy has always been your favorite member of the crew, but you'd never tell the others that.

✶ You find yourself clinging to him the most. His carefree way of life amazes you and you wonder what it feels like to have no fears. This wonder draws you to him more than anyone else.

✶ When enemies (or anyone, really) get too close, you find yourself getting angry and jealous. You try to suppress the feelings but they always cause your blood to boil until you lash out at the opposer. Sometimes it ends well, sometimes it doesn't, but Luffy always gives you a pat on the back that makes it feel worth it.

✶ You see him as the hilarious older brother you never had growing up. He helps calm you down in times of need and he tries his best to be patient with you, even if he often fails. It's the thought that counts.

✶ During heated battles you (very reluctantly) stay away from him. He’s always facing the danger head on and you know you can't let yourself get too involved with the fighting… Though sometimes if there's not enough time for you to make a safe escape, you'll end up with your arms wrapped around his neck holding on for dear life as he punches his way to victory. These are secretly some of your favorite moments. It gives you the sense of adventure you crave but are too fearful to seek out on your own.

✶ Luffy always saves a spot right next to him for you at the dining table. More often than not he'll unintentionally eat a good portion of your meal, but you're too timid to point it out to him. Plus, you're more than happy with what Sanji provides anyways!

✶ It may take a while (a long while) for you to come out of your shell a little bit, but once you do it's non stop goofy duets between you and the rubber man.

✶ He’ll never leave you out of the crowd. Even if you're trying to cower behind him, he'll pull you into the group huddle and make sure your voice is heard. It can be overwhelming at times, but you know it'll be helpful in the long run.

♡ Zoro ♡

✶ You don't talk to Zoro all the much. He's a muscular, straight-faced, sword wielding “pirate hunter” and all of those traits mixed together scares the hell out of you. Despite this, every interaction you've had with him as been nice, so you know deep down he's a kind soul (even if appearances make that hard to believe).

✶ Most of your interactions with him include trying not to trip over him while he's sleeping on the deck in the middle of the day.

✶ The other times mostly consist of his insanely quick reflexes saving you from falling off of high buildings or into the water.

✶ You can recall one time early on in your induction to the crew where he was on night watch and you sleepily stumbled onto the deck, still trying to get the hang of being on the ship. He bluntly invited you up and with a little bit of hesitation, you agreed. The two of you mostly sat in silence and simply looked at the stars in the night sky, but you remember feeling an odd sense of comfort from the man. Since this time, you often think about asking to do the night watch with him again, though your nerves get the best of you and you can never seem to spit out the words you want to. Maybe one day you'll have another nice night in the crow’s nest…

♡ Sanji ♡

✶ Sanji always makes it a point to make sure you're feeling as comfortable as you possibly can.

✶ He’ll bring you special snacks when you don't ask for them, he'll cook you extra servings since he knows Luffy always takes yours and you won't tell him to stop, and he’ll always makes sure you're full before you leave the table after every meal.

✶ You feel as though you can confide in Sanji a little more than the others. You don't know much of his past and he doesn't know yours, but you can tell you both have something in common, even if it's unspoken.

✶ His presence is calming and you never feel pressured to change while you're around him. He doesn't mind your stuttering or fumbling over words- he's always patient and caring.

✶ You'll never understand his crazy obsession with women and quite frankly, you never want to. It's something you've learned to block out and you try your best to avoid him when he's making a fool of himself.

✶ He’s always the first to rush to try to help you out of a sticky situation, he'd never be able to live with himself if something bad happened to you. He feels almost a parental sense of responsibility for you. Because he was cheated out of his childhood, he doesn't want you to be cheated out of yours.

✶ You view Sanji as your more responsible “older brother” or maybe even a little bit of a father figure. You've never had someone care for you so much and it makes you feel so welcomed.

♡ Usopp ♡

✶ You and Usopp are kindred spirits. You two always try to stay out of trouble and are probably the two most conscious people on the crew.

✶ You both notice the tiniest details in everything that's going on. An enemy mysteriously moved from one place to another? Both you and Usopp are keenly aware of it. The group split off into smaller groups to divide and conquer? This chills you and him to your bones. Everything that goes unnoticed by the rest of the crew in battle, is spotted out immediately by the both of you.

✶ You find comfort in Usopp’s nearly irrational fear of everything. Him making up fake illness names to try to explain these fears never fails to make you crack a small smile even when you're terrified. Him being scared of everything makes you feel less alone.

✶ In your free time he'd try to teach you how to draw if you wanted. You accept the offer every once in a while and even though it can be stressful learning to do something new. Luckily, he’s extremely understanding and doesn't mind going over one step multiple times until you've got it down. Many of these drawings end up being pinned up in the kitchen or in various Straw Hat’s rooms.

✶ During most adventures and fights, you try to stick with Usopp as much as possible. Though he may not be the most reliable in combat, you know his intelligence and slingshot can get him far. As a bonus, you know he's always going to try to stay away from trouble as much as you are. And it never hurts to have a like minded rational person around!

♡ Robin ♡

✶ Robin has essentially adopted you as her own child.

✶ Much like how she thinks of Chopper, she thinks you're absolutely adorable and will go to any length necessary to protect you at any cost.

✶ She has a talent for getting you to a place of serenity when things get extra overwhelming and she'll always take the time to work things out with you.

✶ She’s extremely analytical in her ways which can be frustrating at times when her points clash with your emotions, but the majority of her advice is extremely valuable to you. You never take her help for granted even if sometimes it's unwanted.

✶ After Usopp, you try to stay glued to Robin the most. You know she can and will protect you with her life, though the danger that comes with her name scares you a little too much for comfort. You know that following her will lead to trouble, but sometimes it's worth it.

✶ You love sitting on the deck and watching sunsets with her as she reads you a book or lists off random facts about whatever it is she wants to teach you. Before joining the Straw Hats, you hadn't learned much about the world and Robin has become your personal teacher.

✶ Most of your survival skills (excluding the ones you learned on your own before joining the crew) come from Robin and her well rounded knowledge. Her intelligence amazes you and you often ask her for help with common practices, to which she cheerfully provides.

Ep. 13 "Into the Breach" Review

This was another fantastic episode that packs so much into its 25 minute runtime. Seriously, the finale better be like an hour. I feel like there's so much we have to address, yet so little time. My faith in you doesn't waver Jennifer; you've guided us through thick and thin. I will say that Rampart is surprisingly a really fun character to revisit and I enjoy watching him interact with the Batch. This man doesn't learn, but he's funny now so I give him kudos for entertainment purposes. I loved the dark atmosphere as the finale draws nearer and near. This is the end of the Bad Batch. We know it and they know it.

As usual, spoilers below:

MAMA ECHO RETURNS!!! After so long, he graces us with his appearance and he serves. I loved everything from his action sequences to his sass. Watching him sneak around the Imperial ship, rolling off of crates and working his magic was awesome to watch. That's why he's the Arc Trooper. And boy was he funny too. If it were possible, Rampart would've definitely be set on fire. Between being told he was being demoted to being denied the title of "sir," Rampart was demolished by Echo. It's just so good to see Echo again. I love him so much for his kind heart, quips, and awesome action sequences. The writers delivered!

Rampart, Rampart, Rampart... what will we do with you? He certainly hasn't changed and probably never will. But honestly, I kinda hope he doesn't. Sometimes, people are just aholes who do the right things for the wrong reasons. Rampart provides an interesting moral perspective. And he's still hot. Seeing him cleaned up in the uniform didn't help either. I'm a simple woman guys. He's also hilarious and I love it. Rampart's ego is so big that he unintentionally comes across as whiny and comical. Going forward, I seriously wonder what they'll do with him because he's going to Tantiss. Will he get dropped off? Sell the Batch out? Die in the battle that is to come? Next week will tell. I'm glad he was brought back though. He did his job as a villain well. Now, we get to see him in different situations and it's fun.

Omega, my sweet bean, hang in there. This episode does so well in establishing just how much she's grown over the past few seasons. Omega's always been resourceful and clever. Seeing her scheme to escape the Vault was exciting. You can also see the influence her brothers, particularly Hunter, have had on her. Omega's become more confident and mature. She's a leader in every sense of the word. The other kids look to her for guidance as she plans an escape. I also want to give the other kids a huge hug; I can't imagine what it must be like for them. It's one of the darkest things we've ever seen in Star Wars. Also, Emerie and Scalder rivalry definitely is gonna end with Emerie's true motivations being discovered. Scalder's not gonna let her allow Omega to slip away.

And seeing the boys strip their armor of all their color... that was legitimately heartbreaking to watch. I see it as a symbol of finality. There is no going back once they get to Tantiss. Hunter's "negative" just cements that. The last 5 minutes of the episode were so tense as the boys hitched a ride. As a my discord friend put it, "all roads lead to Tantiss."

There were a lot of smaller moments I enjoyed too. Wrecker was pretty funny this episode. Crosshair and Hunter voicing their trust in Echo was sweet. It furthers just how much the Batch truly trust and know each other. It's that implicit trust that makes me love their dynamic so much.

Anyways, that's all for now. We're truly in the endgame guys. After so long, we've finally made it to Tantiss. All that's left is to get Omega, the children, and escape which is so much easier said than done. I'm so scared yet excited for what's to come. See y'all next week!

Eleanora meeting Angel Dust! It's definitely a rocky friendship at first, lol. I feel like she's gonna unintentionally kinda adopt Angel Dust??? Just from their interactions so far writing them, particularly near the end of the chapter, which is hilarious because Angel is the older one.

Chapter Snippet (WIP)

Angel Dust grimaced, one leg tossed over the armrest and the other dangling against the floor. He leaned back against the sofa, tall form taking up almost the entire space. “I came here for free lodgin’. I didn’t think I’d be helpin’ clean the place up.”

“What?” Eleanora wheezed, curled up in the far corner, against the second armrest. “Don’t… actually want to be redeemed?”

“Toots, who in Hell would actually give two shits about bein’ redeemed? Hah?”

The brunette made a face. “What, don’t… think you can do it?”

Angel Dust sat up then, flashing her a glare. “I can be whatever I wanna be!”

“Then…” She waved a hand, sending him a baffled look, “Why not want to be redeemed?”

He hesitated.

Angel Dust turned away with a huff, propping an elbow up with a hand to his cheek as his other arms folded across his torso. “It’s not like redemption is actually possible.”

“Won’t know ‘till you try.”

“What’s the point in tryin’?”

“Because…” Eleanora sat up properly, legs dangling off the edge of the seat, leaning over with her arms resting against her thighs. She flashed Angel Dust a small smile, and the demon, though only gazing at her from the corner of his left eye, paused. “You’re worth the effort, Angel.”

Angel Dust stared at her, genuinely stunned by her words, before pain flitted across his face and he turned away, bringing his arms up to hug himself. “I know my own worth. You ain’t… gotta tell me that.”

She just shrugged. “As long as you’re aware.”

Thank you so much for giving this comic and this AU in general so much love! I am super happy we finally posted it and that you liked it and have so many questions about it + the AU itself. I really really enjoyed drawing this side of Jamil, because he is a scheming snake, and we should appreciate and love him for it lol

When it comes to this AU, there isn’t actually much lore to talk about: it’s pretty much a continuation of their canon story (based on how we see it, of course). So, it’s the canon timeline but ~5 years in the future.

I’ve mentioned it in several replies but I’ll say it again: I have a feeling these two are going to have a difficult relationship for their entire lives, because, even after the events of ch4, all of Jamil’s grudges towards Kalim are still intact. There has been some changes in the way they interact, plus Kalim learned about Jamil’s struggles and true feelings about him, but these changes aren’t really enough to change anything, especially considering how easy it is for people to unintentionally get right back to status quo. And this is exactly what would happen to these two.

So, Kalim is the head of his family now, and Jamil is his official adviser, not some servant. Kalim definitely sees them as equals, and tries his best to be a good ruler/good boss, but still relies on Jamil quite a lot. And for Jamil, he feels like he does everything he’s used to + even more now. So even though he is much more powerful now than he used to be, this feeling of him being squeezed inside of Kalim’s fist is stronger than ever.

But with Kalim being in love with him? It’s the ultimate power, something that can never be taken from him, as long as this idiot is infatuated. So he’ll definitely use this to his advantage, amused by how easy it is to manipulate Kalim and how easy he is to fool: one gentle gesture, one soft smile, and Kalim is absolutely helpless. And if Jamil takes things further…

Now, does Jamil have romantic feelings toward Kalim? Well, one thing about Jamil is, like one of the Anons mentioned, karma always bites him in the ass. He is kind of a loser frankly lol, whenever he tries to outsmart Kalim, he succeeds, but then something happens and makes his life miserable. So this whole thing is definitely going to backfire too.

Jamil has always had fondness for Kalim, but every warm feeling gets cruelly suppressed. But now that this “door” of the romantic closeness and intimacy with Kalim is open, Jamil can expect his biggest karma-ass-bite yet. What a fun surprise it’s going to be lol

Oh, and don’t worry about Kalim’s feelings. We all know how forgiving he could be lol

However, he is kind, calm, and patient, so he’s easy to be at ease around. For that, she is grateful and naturally gravitates toward him.

Of all the Touchstarved LIs, Kuras is the one she would most likely voluntarily spend time with.

Likes/Dislikes Leander — “Never trust a mage with an oracle’s mission.” Admires his bravery to a degree. He did offer to be tied up, completely at the mercy of a stranger. It is brave — absolutely foolish, yes, but undoubtedly brave. She thinks he’s a bit of an idiot.

Would point out his blush every time. “Leander, you have gone red. Do you require water?” I think out of all my Touchstarved MCs, she embarrasses him the most often unintentionally. Good for her.

“I can keep you safe as long as you trust me.” “…Okay.” (disbelieving)

You know that one SNL skit with Benadryl Gingersnap and the guy just saying, “Okay.” in the most unaffected tone? That’s Leander and Luneth.

Leander doing his utmost to charm her, and Luneth responds with an unfazed, “Cool. Moving on.”

The only one of my MCs who refused to touch him so she saw that scene.

He crossed a line when he grabbed her, not only did he ignore her warnings, it was also incredibly foolish and reckless. Both of them could have gotten hurt from his refusal to follow her lead.

He’s not a direct threat to her (yet) but she continues to be wary around him.

Not planning on doing Leander’s route with her, but I feel like they’d be hilarious together. And it’s not even like he wouldn’t be her type. The thing is, she’s fallen for a “heroic” mage before…but it didn’t end well.

All of their interactions feel like she’s going, “This could have been an email.”

Dislikes Vere — “You can peer into souls as easily as you breathe, yet you still see so little.” She believes he acts difficult on purpose and she would be right. As someone with a rigid sense of right and wrong, she dislikes his flippant morals. He claims to be old enough to have witnessed Eridia’s ascension, yet he has all the restraint and maturity of a child.

Basically, “you had a hundred years to grow out of it and you still act like this? Cringe.”

I feel like the dislike would be mutual. Vere would find her too rigid and strict with herself and others. It’s like forcing a paladin and a rogue to work together.

His power does not unnerve her, because she’d been around seers and clerics her entire life, and she has her own gift of sight.

Yes, she would prefer to keep her past and her secrets under wraps, but there was very little privacy in the temple. She survived then, she’ll survive now.

She just hopes the little fox won’t do anything drastic for a power fantasy. It would be…inconvenient.

And although his power of sight is something she’s used to, she knows his other abilities are a very real threat. Unlike him, she is not a fighter nor a killer. If he chooses to sink his teeth into her, she has little way to stop him and for some reason, he seems to find her soul irresistible. “Kindly resist it.” So she remains on guard.

Oddly, as much as she dislikes him, she trusts his instincts the most.

Luneth is an efficient oracle and prefers to take the path of least resistance where she is able — and then you have Vere. A restless, hedonistic, chaotic obstacle that threatens to not only block off but also completely destroy the path to her objective, not even necessarily on purpose. Oh, but she has a feeling that he would.

As of the demo, they are mutually disappointed in each other — Vere finds Luneth imposes too many restrictions on herself that prevents her from realizing her actual strength and Luneth thinks Vere has the potential to be more than his facade, more than his desire for power, even. Both of them are going, “You could be so much more.” at each other about different things.

Likes/Dislikes Ais — “…Is there a bird in here?” Her feelings about him are similar to her feelings about Vere, to a lesser degree. He seems to have been honest with her thus far, so she holds some respect for him.

Ais is a bit of a bastard but he’s more manageable than Vere. At least he doesn’t go out of his way to get in hers.

She has very neutral feelings toward him.

To be fair, she has very neutral feelings toward most people.

Vere seems to hold some regard for him and she knows that Vere can see into people’s souls, so she assumes that Ais is one of the more genuine people in Eridia.

If it weren’t for Vere and Kuras, however, I don’t think she would interact with him very often.

They are on different paths, but there is potential for a strong friendship between them.

Her quote is in response to: “You look lost, little sparrow.” “…?” *looks behind her*

Dislikes Mhin — “Calm yourself. There is no need for such hostility.” She’s glad that she is still alive due to Mhin’s actions, but in all honesty, she just happened to be in the right place at the right time. So she doesn't feel very indebted to them, at least, not in the way she does Kuras.

They tell her they didn’t save her, she was only in the near vicinity of their mark and she believes them. Their goal of killing the Soulless just so happened to be beneficial to her. That is the extent of their exchange that first meeting and she owes them nothing. That works just fine for her.

Luneth is often annoyed by Mhin’s temper and standoffish attitude. It clashes with her cool, detached, and reticent nature.

Lowkey judges them for not having a better handle on their emotions but that could also just be projection on her end.

Mhin makes her feel more like an inconvenience to them than anything else, so…she simply won’t inconvenience them.

The hunter seems to prefer to keep to themselves and Luneth does the same.

I love the skin into fur au! I was thinking about other cp9 members being there too, and thought about Jabra

I feel like he would be such a menace to whoever he takes a liking to. He would totally try and steal something off of you and then play a game of keepaway with it so that you have to stay in his enclosure longer. And then when you do manage to get it back, he decides that he's tired now and plops down for a nap... right in front of the exit. He's a huge wolf so good luck moving him.

If the zookeeper gets smart and stops having anything on them when they go in, it backfires horribly because now he's biting onto their uniform and ripping them

I think he would also be prone to knocking them over so he can cuddle up with and lick at them. It's frustrating when you're just trying to clean up his enclosure, but it's hard to get mad about it when you've got coworkers getting attacked by a giraffe or mauled by a leopard. At least your animal is just mischievous and overly affectionate.

Or so you thought until he bites a couple of fingers off a coworker that tried to play with him like you do

So without a doubt, Jabra would be an absolute menace like zookeepers are afraid to go into Lucci’s enclosure but they’re moreso annoyed to go into Jabra’s just because of how much of a shit he can be

But with you, he’s still a menace but more in a steal your shit kinda way like you mentioned like you once dropped something in his enclosure and you spent the entirety of your shift chasing him around the enclosure

The guests loved it and thought it was hilarious but you were quite annoyed especially when he finally gave up what he stole only to plop down right by the exit and when you tried to move him but failed, you swore that he was grinning at you with this assholish little smirk on his wolf face

Like honestly if he was in human form then you would probably have the urge to just kick him or something…

Eventually when you finally managed to make it out of the enclosure, Jabra went back to normal behavior and this continued for a good long while with some guests probably thinking it was a legit show that the zoo put on

However that ends when you do think that you’re being smart by not having anything that he can steal on you when he does bite into your clothes and rips them causing the guests to see something that they shouldn’t like… It’s a miracle that the zoo isn’t getting sued for indecent exposure…

After that little incident, you’re told by the owners that you’re on cleaning duty for the guest areas but seeing as you do such a great job with Jabra then you still have to care for him but only after and before work hours so no guests see

The wolf man doesn’t like this at all like once absolutely no one is around and he can freely wander the zoo like the other animal shifters, he’s probably complaining about how bullshit this is to the others as he shouldn’t be kept away from then human that he wants to take as his mate

I can see Kaku giving him advice on how to attempt to make the zookeeper stay longer in a way that isn’t blocking the exit but Lucci probably wouldn’t like at most, he would unintentionally inspire Jabra to start leaving small dead animals in your work locker for you to eat and see how he’d be a good mate who can provide for you and any pups he put in you

Of course that doesn’t happen as it winds up being something that more scares the ever loving shit out of you instead of makes you see Jabra as a good mate especially because you don’t even know it’s him who left it like were you supposed to just see it and think of him?

Once animal shifter mating season starts getting closer, that’s when I can see him start getting like incredibly physically affectionate with you

I can see him rubbing up against you as he walks past and when you crouch down to clean something more thoroughly, I can imagine him licking at you and potentially even trying to bite you to claim you as his but never being able to as you just push him away

This isn’t the worst thing in the world though as Lucci mauls a ton of his caretakers and Kaku occasionally attacks his caretakers so an annoying wolf who doesn’t stop tormenting you seems like a godsend compared to what your co-workers are dealing with

Sure, he nips at your skin occasionally but that’s not too bad as he never draws blood and also there was that one time that he did attempt to mount you while you were on your hands and knees cleaning his den but you just choose to forget about that after heavily scolding him

Some time passes and something happens one day as a new zookeeper appears at the zoo, they’re a new guy and you have to train them in cleaning enclosures as they’ve been assigned to work with the same animals as you

Things go well even if Jabra does show more aggression when you’re with the new guy but you assure them that it’s just because their new and he hasn’t gotten used to them yet so give him some time

A few days pass and Jabra is back to messing with you like he normally does with him nipping at you and stealing your stuff but something happens that makes him want to “play” with the new guy…

What is that, you may ask? Well this new guy asked you on a date and although you declined, Jabra felt like they needed to be severely punished…

So the next time that you and the new guy were in his enclosure, he went up and stole an item right off of the new guy’s belt then started jumping and running around like he was excited and wanted to play

The new guy was pretty happy as it seemed like Jabra was finally warming up to him but that couldn’t be farther from the case…

He got the new guy to chase him to an area where you wouldn’t see and then once they were alone where no one would see, he got up onto his hind legs shifting into his human form

Jabra kept the new guy quiet during it but that still only gave him five minutes until you rushed over only to find your co-worker beaten to shit and Jabra growling in a random direction like he was trying to scare off an attacker

An ambulance was called and your co-worker was sent to the hospital for a long period of time as they claimed Jabra had attacked them after turning into a human, this made them seem absolutely nuts and they were quickly relieved of their position at the zoo so they could recover

Now that the competition was gone, Jabra could focus on what he wanted to do most as he set his sights on you and you alone as he had gotten rid of the competition so now he could have you

He just had to wait for the perfect moment and that moment came only a few days later at the peak of mating season, you had been asked by your boss to come in earlier than anyone else to take care of some things

Bleach Headcanons: Keeping Up With the Kardashians

They accidentally stumble onto the show. What could possibly happen?

Jushiro Ukitake:

He'd watch with a serene smile, finding it amusing how different it is from Soul Society's culture. He'd likely comment on the drama, comparing it to the occasional chaos in the Gotei 13, but would be genuinely baffled by the obsession with fame. Eventually, he’d find himself slipping up, quoting the Kardashians unintentionally, accidentally slipping their catchphrases into conversations at the most unexpected times. His friends would be utterly bemused by his sudden use of phrases like "Oh my god" and "Literally."

Byakuya Kuchiki:

He'd maintain an aloof facade but secretly be intrigued by the extravagant lifestyles. He'd refuse to admit any interest but might silently acknowledge the Kardashians' business acumen, though he'd never openly praise them. He’d secretly find himself invested in the family's storylines. He'd watch it in private, making sure no one caught him, but would be caught off guard when someone unexpectedly walks in on him watching an episode.

Shinji Hirako: He'd wear an exaggerated grin, making playful jabs at the absurdity of the show's plot twists and dramatic confrontations. He'd tease the characters and their over-the-top behavior, finding it a good source of amusement. He'd start imitating the family members' dramatic gestures and catchphrases just to annoy his friends. He'd try to mimic their expressions and mannerisms for comic relief, creating hilarious situations with his exaggerated impersonations.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi:

He'd view it as a scientific study on human behavior, taking meticulous notes on the family's interactions. Mayuri would occasionally mutter about conducting experiments on their unique social dynamics while inventing bizarre theories about their lifestyle choices. He'd start adopting some of their more outlandish fashion choices, much to the bewilderment of his friends.

Shuhei Hisagi: He'd watch with a mix of curiosity and disbelief, occasionally facepalming at the sheer absurdity of the situations. He'd find it hard to look away, even if he's embarrassed to admit that he's enjoying the chaotic entertainment. He'd accidentally get emotionally invested in the family's dramas, finding himself empathizing with their struggles. He'd try to rationalize it to his friends, who would tease him mercilessly for being unexpectedly hooked on the show.

Renji Abarai:

He'd be vocal about his opinions, laughing loudly at the ridiculousness of the family's arguments. He'd compare their drama to the daily banter in the Soul Society, finding similarities in the way conflicts arise and resolve. He'd openly admit to being a fan, defending the show's entertainment value. He'd enthusiastically discuss the family's storylines, arguing passionately about their character arcs, much to the disbelief of his friends.

Ichigo Kurosaki:

He'd be the most exasperated, wondering why anyone would watch such a show. He'd be the first to try changing the channel but might secretly get caught up in the drama, despite his protests. He'd vehemently deny any interest if questioned but his friends would catch him secretly binge-watching it when he thinks no one is around. He'd make feeble excuses and attempt to change the subject whenever confronted about it.

I saw the post saying Batman fans think dc intentionally make Bruce a terrible parent to give Damian angst…just…have these people seen what dc writers and editors in interviews?

A lot of writers and editors revealed they see Damian not more than an arrogant and entitled brat that needs to learn his place and follow the status quo…which is hilarious as a lot of modern writing heroes make fucking frustrated with their holler than thou personalities.

Heck I remember the writer got Tim Drake last recent book said she liked Damian but he can be difficult at times

Oh like Ra’s and Bruce? Almost like he related to the some of the most complex mainstream comic book characters.

And from my experience, a lot of writers want to write the idolized version of Batman that made up as a kid. Which unfortunately makes Bruce treat Damian as afterthought unintentionally.

Now I don’t expect Bruce to be the perfect dad, but as you stated months ago. A lot of modern Batman writers have a fundamentally lack of desire to have Bruce act like a parent/figure. In fancy I notice this with the other batkids where their bonds with Bruce have been extremely watered down. Can you confirm that as you read more older comics than me.

Sorry for a long anon, I don’t think Bruce is meant to be a terrible father. Just a lot of writers project their personal bias against Damian into other characters…which in turn make a lot of them worse as writer forgot Damian is a child…not to mention Bruce bio son. Not saying parents and kids have 1:1 of personalities. But do writers remember Bruce can be an asshole too?

yeah a lot of the writers do project their personal biases - as well as they personally don't view Bruce's adopted kids as his actual kids* and it's more comfortable for writers to just have them do different things when batman doesn't "have" to be a parent. like dick and bruce have pretty good rapport in silver and bronze age.

for older comics its strange. like I'd say even tho golden/silver age bruce didn't refer to dick as his son, he still definitely had "dad like" qualities. like we see a golden age bruce knock dick out to stop him from following him to his presumed death**, and silver age Bruce encourages dick to spend time being a kid and enjoying basketball and for example 1 comic dick goes to his school's spirit night instead of on patrol.

bronze age dick is college age, so their dynamic is different. dick's out of the house in college, and honestly I wish writers would do this more if they just didn't want to write Bruce being a dad. Like for Damian's situation instead of Bruce being criminally negligent/stupid why can't we just see Damian living with Talia he literally has a mom. you don't want to write bruce being a dad there are options.

jason we see him being a good dad but also his tenure as robin is pretty short, and then for a while the robin of the time (tim) is important in that he is not bruce's son. he's a trainee. Bruce doesn't have any minor children for a while, and only after OYL (occurs 2006 in our world) do we see him adopt a nearly adult tim.

For which Batkids have had their bonds with Bruce watered down, I'd have to read more current batcomics. The old comics I'd say we do have phases where Dick and Bruce don't talk much, mostly due to the annoying post COIE retcons of how Dick becomes nightwing (Bruce initially tells him he can't be Robin after he gets shot, then immediately adopts Jason to make him Robin, and then later that is retconned for Bruce to kick him out). I've spoken multiple times about preferring pre COIE retcons where Dick had more agency.

Cass I am not sure if we've seen her interacting a lot with Bruce lately, due to the aforementioned not keeping up with current batcomics that don't have Damian. She does show up in spirit world but :P that's about Xanthe.

From what I hear from people who read current Tim comics, Tim's bond with Bruce is very strongly emphasized, tho I haven't read those comics myself so I can't comment firsthand.

Overall I think a lot of portrayal of Bruce as straight up negligent or abusive*** is due to writers just not caring about portraying him as a dad, they care about loner batman which maybe is the version from their head as kids? or could just be because that's a lot of what DC likes to emphasize. also the general "men express emotions by being angry and violent" thing many writers like. and DC was going to set up Damian as the villain for 5G, so they had to put him in a place where Bruce couldn't have seen this and stopped it, so they decided that he was going to claim any level of ignorance in order to not look bad (because I guess just not knowing what's going on with your child is fine)

*for a similar thing not in batman comics: i think that if Death of a Prince writers viewed Garth as Aquaman's ""actual"" kid, even though Garth was adopted by him and raised by him for a large portion of his childhood, they wouldn't have had aquaman being willing to fight aqualad to the death to save his biological child, arthur jr, at black manta's threats.

**which is also what Talia does for Damian in Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul - she knocks him out to take him away from battle and protect him

*** as opposed to realistically emotionally unavailable for his character, which I think works especially post Jason's death. but also WRT for why I think the negligent stuff is OOC (here - post)
