"We thought for sure she would have us killed or imprisoned. After all, we hadn't just been attacking humans, had we? We'd been tearing up monster settlements as well.
But she didn't. She looked at us, all holy fire and tired wrath, and she spared us."

Thinking about Amber's 'hero' persona that he acts out in order to bear everything that he is burdened with, things that should be beyond the capabilities of a kid, but not for a hero. A persona that he grows into, and as an adult, is more familiar with, than with who he is without pretending to be that. Heroes don't have needs, heroes find fullfillment in service of others. Heroes die tragically, but it is always framed as a beautiful and right fate.
And he has to believe it. He has to fully commit to this idea to be able to live up to the impossible standards that have been placed before him. To what end? He could grind himself to dust to salt the food of the people he cares about, but do they want that? Sure, he is taking burden away from them by placing it all upon himself, but is this efficient? would it not be a less destructive burden if it were distributed among many pillars of support?
What does it mean towards the people who care about him, that he views himself as an object? Surely he does not mean to imply that their love is so trivial. Truly, there is nothing beautiful about this whole hero deal when you really look at it.
The war haunts the lives of those who had not been born at the time.

@thornwolfy235 replied to your post “"haha wha tif I gave the vampire au grillby...”:
I must know more about firebirb with sword.
FIREBIRD GRILLBY TIME
Tumblr media
He's still heavily fire-aligned, and MAN does he give off incredible amounts of heat, but the only "fire" part of him is really, his crest and partially his tail (and even then, if you rifle through it, it's a weird feather+fire mixture at the base). He's very much solid under all that fluff.
All his feathers, whether golden or crimson, give off incredible amounts of light, even after being shed. So while this massive bird form is great for fast moving around, he's also a massive, glowing target, so his tactic of choice is flying into enemy lines, transforming into his more compact, humanoid form and then wreaking havoc with his claymore and fire magic on the ground. inventory magic comes really in handy, though he might have some kind of sword strap even in his birb form i'm not really sure. lol
Firebirds are not from the part of the world where the war takes place; he's traveled a bit. not entirely of his own volition, sometimes. firebird feathers are highly valuable and their song highly coveted; he has some Bad Experiences. he also has language troubles for a while but since he doesn't talk much it's not that. apparent.

It's finally ready. I'm glad I waited to color this image as I don't think I was able to capture the feeling of cold and a large expanse of snow in the background well before. What do you think about?

Meet Mycelium! I have had him for a while now, but again, too lazy to write a proper post :"""""D
He was a monster archimage back in ther surface before wartime. His Magic is Foresight, basically, he can see the future, but not do anything about it.
🍄 * Name: Mycelium.
🍄 * Classification: Mushroom Monster.
🍄 * Gender: Male. (He/Him)
🍄 * Age: Unknown.
🍄 * Stats:
HP- ???, DEF- 30, ATK- 10
* Archimage of Fungus Depths.
*... Does not wish to talk.
🍄 * Skills: Mycelium can see into the future with the aid of his magic powers and crystal globe. He can also share these visions through said globe, if he wants to.
Aside from that, his magic is able to accelerate processes such as decay and fungi growth. He may also make any of the kinds of mushroom that are a part of his body sprout rapidly from just about any soil, though this ability is mostly used for defense. It is also said he can cause paralysis and mild hallucinations with spore-based attacks, however, very rarely has ever made any sort of offensive use of it.
🍄 * Currently: ... No. :')
🍄 * Personality: He's described as good natured and kind, albeit unpredictable. Mycelium is very hard to read, his expressions usually concelead by the shadow of his large inky-cap hat. He's seldom ever seen without his signature mild smile, and the mysterious aura that surrounds him and his power put many at unease to be near.... He does has his heart in the right place, though.
Tumblr media
🍄 * History: History does not see Mycelium kindly. During the war, he's been known to refuse to aid the Monster forces of any kingdom, not sharing any of his visions for future battles and outcomes to the conflict. He shut himself away and isolated from other monsters of relevant positions, avoiding meetings, requests and even threats for his collaboration as much as he could.
As to why he did that, it is unclear. Some rumor he was a traitor, leaking that information to the humans to save his own skin; others that he was just mad, no rhyme or reason to what he did or didn't do, just sheer insanity; and there are still those who believe he witheld this information as a mercy, because he knew they'd lose. Alas, no theory was ever confirmed.
Mycelium has always thought of his magic powers as a curse. Whilst he did see things with incredible clarity, there wasn't virtually anything he could do about a vision, either as a countermeasure or warning. If he told others about an event, it would always be slightly altered or come to more devastatingly than the original course, and anything aimed to prevent it would inheritedly fail. All he could do was think of solutions to mend the damage that came after; without sharing them with anyone not to trigger one of these butterfly effects.
That made his decisions as archimage rather questionable, as he would often ditch orders that had no apparent use, and make requests that seemed to come out of nowhere. Most of the times these always came in handy after a problem already struck (so let's say, he'd ask for a stock of construction materials when nothing was being constructed, and then after a storm that damaged many buildings, these were already available for immediate damage control. After the event however, most seemed to disregard ther they were there by Mycelium's order in the first place.) Rather than impeding it's happening, which was what most people expected of his visions.
He didn't want to become a mage at first in his life... His Foresight was just too valuable a resource to waste without proper development, so he was recruited into an apprenticeship against his will at a young age, eventually climbing the ranks to the position he occupied for the rest of his life. Deciphering his prophecies have always posed a challenge, as he insisted on encrypting them as much as possible.
Some sources say he was the one to deliver the 'Fallen Angel' prophecy that used to be all over the Underground, carrying on the the Secondground in Luminoustale. This can't be confirmed because, as of now, very few monster remember Mycelium, and records of his existence and doings are few and far between: As a result of the bad reputation his passive stance during wartime had on his image. Most historians and record keepers of the time have obscured him from memory as much as they could, in what could be described as spite.

Fish and Chips’ Surprising Jewish History
Tumblr media
Jamie Oliver confirmed it!
You may be surprised to learn that fish and chips, though wildly popular in England for what seems like eternity, was actually a specialty of the Portuguese Sephardic Jews who fled the Inquisition in the 16th century and found refuge in the British Isles. Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver referred to this recently in an article in the New York Times, adding that, “Dishes evolve, impacted by trade, war, famine and a hundred other forces.”
Among those “other forces” are dishes born of religious ritual. For observant Jews, fish is pareve, a neutral food in kosher terms, thus an easy way to avoid treyf (non-kosher food) and possibly include dairy in the same meal. It was especially important for Marranos, the so-called crypto-Jews, who pretended to be Christian during the Inquisition. They ate fish on Fridays, when meat was forbidden by the Church, and also saved some to eat cold the next day at lunch, to avoid cooking on Shabbat.
Frying was natural for Jewish home cooks — think of latkes and sufganyiot — and as the Jewish community began to flourish in England, it spurred a taste for its beloved fried, battered fish throughout the country. According to Claudia Roden’s The Book of Jewish Food, Thomas Jefferson tried some on a trip to London and noted that he ate “fish in the Jewish fashion” during his visit. Alexis Soyer, a French cook who became a celebrated chef in Victorian England included a recipe for “Fried Fish, Jewish Fashion” in the first edition of his cookbook A Shilling Cookery for the People (1845). Soyer’s recipe notes that the “Jewish manner” includes using oil rather than meat fat (presumably lard), which made the dish taste better, though also made it more expensive.
There’s some dispute about the where and when of “chips” (what we Americans call French fries and the French call pommes frites). Many historians say that deep-fried, cut-up potatoes were invented in Belgium and, in fact, substituted for the fish during hard times. The first time the word “chips” was used was in Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities in 1859: “husky chips of potato, fried with some reluctant drops of oil.”
The official pairing of fish and chips didn’t happen until a few years later, though. Although there are some who dispute it, most authorities say that it is thanks to a Jewish cook, this time a young Ashkenazi immigrant named Joseph Malin, who opened the first British chippy, AKA fish and chip shop, in London in 1863. The shop was so successful it remained in business until the 1970s.
Who could foresee that fearful Jewish immigrants hiding their true religion and practicing in secret would be responsible for creating one of the most iconic dishes in the U.K.? The down-home dish that Winston Churchill claimed help the British defeat the Nazis, the comfort food that George Orwell said helped keep the masses happy and “averted revolution.” The dish, by the way, that was among the only foods never rationed during wartime because the British government believed that preserving access to it was a way of keeping up morale. A dish that continues to be a mainstay of the British diet.
Think about that the next time you find yourself feasting on this centuries-old — Jewish? British? — recipe.
These days, some restaurants are putting a new spin on fish and chips. Almond crusted. Baked instead of fried. Quinoa coated. Sweet potato fries instead of regular. And those are all fine; as Oliver says, “Dishes evolve.” But plain old fish and chips endures and probably always will. Good recipes usually do.

Wartime! Sanster
This city has seen so much evil.
It's getting darker than night. Gloomless gloom.
Everywhere hassle and fog.
Darkness covered the forest.
And like a fiendish deception
It drives us crazy.
Who is sneaking on the heels?
Whose voice is whispering to me?
What is this here?
Who is that there
Hiding in the dark?
Monsters are everywhere
But with us the moonlight.
We are saved only by a miracle.
There is no turning back!
There will be a wolf howl!
We will take this fight!
No monsters are worse than you and me!

Vietnam UF!Grillby
WWI Grillby - Midieval-era Grillby (soon)
lots of war-nerd rambling below
I’ll try not to get too wordy with this. I’ve always like the idea of Grillby being a war vet and since adopting three of them in my head (Undertale, Mobtale, and Underfell) Since I began my studies in war- they all have kind of.. Chosen their own wars.
So this is Underfell!Grillby, Vietnam.
The guns: -M16 'Shithead': Not too much to say about this one other than it was the old design that didn’t properly cycle or have a guard so it frequently jammed and spat casings out at his face, hence the nickname.
-Colt 1903 Hammerless: So, funny story. He was originally assigned a 1911 A1 but an officer got pissed at him for getting high- he beat the shit out of the guy and took the sidearm as a prize. (Do not assault a superior officer, kids). It’s cracked up the side ‘for reasons you don’t want to know’ and had the original insignia replaced in Saigon but that’s all I know about it.
The tiger: ... It’s a long story. But to make it short she became his best friend. Now all thats left of her is her pelt.
The dog: Another thing he won’t tell me other than it’s a Brittany Spaniel and he had it for a good long while. I know it had a name, and I know it died. Bad enough he still hasn’t really said how.
The dogtags: Probably the most vague thing from back than. I assume he came from Scotland, same as my other Grillby and his, at least, Americanized name is still Grillbert.  But is it Gilliebeart? Was he pulled from Glencoe just like him? What was his rank? I’m still not sure. When I find the answer I’ll edit this.
If anyone ever has any questions please don’t ever hesitate to ask.... Just be prepared for a long answer. This is honestly only the very surface of what I have =w=
(small sidenote; reused an old drawing of mine only i put a shirt on him, low-key forgot if i posted it or not so if it looks familiar, thats why)
