the sun, the moon, the stars
she was the sun.
at first he thought she was the sun.
she was the first spark of light after he crash landed back down on earth; like seeing a glimpse of the rising sun following a cold, seemingly never ending, dark night.
her glow only intensified once he heard her sing, that dazzling voice blinding him in one fell swoop, leaving his eyes struggling to adjust. it was beautiful the way she would shine just as brightly onstage as she did in the privacy of her own home, her voice warming him to his very core, one note at a time.
the only problem was that he could never afford to get too close — if he did, if he tried, all the dreams and illusions that were built up in his head about this new life would burn to a crisp, leaving behind smoke and a trail of shattered hopes.
she was the sun, and he was no one.
she was the moon.
when he got the chance to get to know her a little more, when he found himself inevitably starting to fall for her, he realised he had been mistaken — that maybe julie wasn’t the sun, but rather the moon.
a quiet ethereal beauty that cast light on everything in its path, guiding lost stumbling souls out of the depth of the shadows and into its brilliance. with all odds against him, against them, she had managed to pull him out of his nightmares, and help shine a light on a home that had been long forsaken by hope.
it was also an undeniable fact that she had the distinct ability to pull him in and keep him in her orbit. he always found himself gravitating towards her, her voice effortlessly pulling him in like the rising tide of the ocean’s waves, her power on him never wavering.
and unlike the sun, touching her wouldn’t destroy him; wouldn’t set him ablaze. but she was still too far out of reach, fingers outstretched as far as they can go, yet still coming up empty.
she was the moon, out of reach, and he a ghostly shadow.
she was the stars.
more time had passed, and his thoughts kept shifting; the longer he looked at her, the more he was convinced she was the stars.
twinkling in the night sky even when surrounded by darkness, refusing to give in to the shadows. obstacle after obstacle, she rises up, never letting anyone dim that light shimmering in her eyes.
he always looked at her the same way, as one would a starry night — in awe and reverence at its sheer sparkling beauty, with millions upon millions of little glittering lights coming together to paint a masterpiece.
he could never look away.
but this only solidified what he already knew — just like the stars belonged to no one, she would never be his, was never meant to be his. her place was in the heavens, where her brilliance could mesmerise any who looked her way.
she was the stars, but who was he?
it was only when his fingers reached out and traced the soft curves of her cheek, palms pressing against forbidden warm skin, did he finally realise.
did he finally understand.
she wasn’t the sun, the moon, nor the stars.
she was all of them combined,
she was his entire universe.
and maybe, just maybe, that meant he was someone.

#bg3#tiefling#tw blood#c: Viivi#so I redid my bg3 character because I wasn't feeling durge that much. So now my sibling does durge and I regular tav Viivi#(changed her to tiefling for funs)#at least I meant to do regular tav but uhhhhh things have gone very unfortunately very fast#anyway. Viivi is an artist; she does painting sculpting poetry and some prose. Experimenting with this and that#unfortunately she is deaf which made making connections a bit hard in the fine arts world#fortunately she has a patreon with one very generous patron (she's fey warlock)✨ who has bestowed some gifts of charms for her#which have opened doors of many art galleries#She's not a fighter so although she is confident in her own lane she is also very aware of her mortality#so she avoided any fights she could#which might have saved her but also got her into the mess of her lifetime#you see she couldn't fight the entire goblin camp and their leaders. She would've just not survived that. So she convinced them#that she is a True Soul. She is good at convincing people. It worked. They thought she is on their side. Good#Halsin also though Viivi was on their side. Halsin attacked Viivi's party. Now Halsin is dead.#So Viivi and her group were still alone deep within enemy fort. Viivi made new plans. She frees the prisoner who says he will warn the grov#Good thinks Viivi now they know to flee. I will go to Minthara and tell we got the information from prisoner of the grove location#she will trust us and we walk off#when we get back to grove they have not fled and Minthara is at the gates#Minthara wants Viivi to sound the horn. Zevlor wants Viivi to sound the horn. Viivi asks Zevlor to please tell this plan in detail.#Zevlor says just blow the horn already. Viivi does that. Minthara thanks Viivi for leaving the gate open as planned#Zevlor does not thank Viivi for that. Viivi is confused as she did not leave the gate open. (for real the damn gate was left open)#So I did a Massacre.#now Karlach is gone Wyll is dead. Lae'zel is also dead#but apparently Minthara is ready to be very loving and sincere with Viivi. The most helpful person she has met in very long time.#Viivi might love her#so that is how she's doing.

I’ve always stayed in battle mode longer. It’s a problem for most people, especially most other caravan guards. Makes them more like to destroy their own goods or something; they say they go crazy. I’ve always gotten calmer, more focused. It’s always made things clearer for me: I can see better, hear more, react faster. I’m just better. And I love it.

My people destroyed, their guts and organs and blood soaking into my boots, turned into fucking burning rainbow sand under Cog’s spell. At the hands of this fucking bitchass cunt of a god who thought they could touch my people.

They’re all waiting around covering their mouths, stunted by the smell of death. Even Cog tied herself up with a bandana. And I just strolled on in; walked in without a care in the world like this shit is my favorite cologne. What the hell is wrong with me. The whole fight, I felt nothing. Nothing. Just annoyance. This bitch came to my town and put their hands on my people? Asshole. And then they died and I felt. Sad? No. I felt disappointed. I wanted more from them. It was like they, the fucking god of destruction weren’t enough. They weren’t enough.

I turn. My boots squeak with thick wetness and it’s horrible so I listen. Bones crack and organs pop under my feet as I walk back to my friends and I would stumble if I’d allow it. If I had the time or the space. My people died because I decided I had time to fuck around. Because I forgot what I’m for. Cog killed Gru’umsh and she should be rightly proud of that but she doesn’t know. She can’t know. Gru’umsh leaned in and told me themself, practically whispered it into my ear as they drank my blood.

I wrap myself in the secret’s mantle, coming to terms with it as quickly as I have to. Immediately. Gesturing Jack and Kana to my sides, sending them out in search of gasoline and matches as I turn to congratulate my friends. My family. My people. I will protect them, this time. I will do whatever it takes. I will not fail my people again. How could I, when they’re still in me? When we’re still..

Dead Darlings Tag
I'm taking advantage of this open tag from @i-can-even-burn-salad to share a few pieces that got cut from The Prince of Thieves. (There are also SOOOOO many dead darlings from The Queen of Lies, but I'll save that for another time.)
ummmmm nobody mention how I forgot to tag anyone when this posted so I'm passing on the OPEN TAG. 💕
oh and uhhh jsyk none of these are particularly well-written. They're darlings because they're scenes or elements I liked but cut anyway, not because I did pretty prose or anything.
Did you know there was a version of Jamie that apologized for being not-so-nice to Bree? I changed it because I wanted Bree to be a little tougher and angrier.
“I owe you an apology,” I say. God, I sound rough. “And a thank you. For coming back for me.”
“No. Don’t.” That cut-up face is so solemn. “Will was going to run back after you. I…” She sighs softly. “Couldn’t let him do that.”
“No, I meant…” It’s difficult to form words out of the muddle of thoughts, but I try. “In the cabin. I wasn’t… I wasn’t very nice to you.”
“I don’t blame you.” She won’t meet my gaze. “I left Will behind. I left him there.”
Or that in the earliest iteration of TPOT, Bree wasn't rescued from Hatchett by IA but captured by them?
(This was before IA even had a name, arguably before the story even had a real plot. 😅 I will say that Jamie was a lot more badass in this version.)
I changed it because it didn't make much sense and was also extremely cringey. But hey. It was fun 😇😈
Footsteps approach, slow and cautious. Nothing like the sure-footed, cocky gait of my least favourite constable.
“I know you’re awake. Nod if you can understand me.”
The voice is quiet, exhausted, just shy of familiar. The rasp of flint striking stone. I nod.
OR that Bree was originally the one to propose the trade?? (uhhhhh I actually can't remember if that got posted as part of Whumptober. lol.) I changed it because....actually I don't know. Kind of a shame, honestly.
“We’ll trade you for Will.” Another tear slides down her cheek. “And then you’ll leave us alone. Forever.”
“Absolutely not,” he growls back. “I’ll hunt you down. Both of you. All of you.”
She smiles and picks up the cup of water he refused before. “Better drink up, Constable. We’re bringing you back. Alive and well.”
“Don’t fucking come near me, Breanna Cooper.”
She holds the up, uncertain now, as he refuses yet again. I’ll force him to drink later if I have to. If there’s a chance we can bargain for Will’s freedom with Hatchett as our leverage, I’ll spoon-feed him myself.
Wearing a grim smile now, Bree takes a deep breath, tosses the entire cup of water into his face, and walks away.

well, if u look in the tag theres some more character designs.....the story is extremely not finished being made tho. summer srendarrsmercy and i have some groundwork laid out but there's a lot of stuff to fill in still. and also my memory isnt the best and these r the notes i took last time she and i had a long talk abt it

But uhhhhh I guess the gist is that like. It's based heavily on the Poetic Edda + Prose Edda + some of Summer & I's favorite fragmentary info........but aalso we have taken a ton of artistic liberty just for grins and giggles.........and the theme is maybe probably going to have to do with overcoming your fated demise with the power of anime friendship.......
So. First of all. Odin fucking left on a Journey a long ass time ago, told no one where he was going nor why, and Asgard has just kind of been trying to figure out what to do with themselves for a while now.
there is some kind of magic school that 4 of the 5 main characters go to (dont worry abt why theres a magic school. we came up w a reason I literally cant remember rn. Im sure the reason explains the following 2 things better as well). Hel can't be very hands-on but she is sort of overseeing this whole magic school thing. Her brother Fenrir is still bound by the magic ribbon but has been given enough slack to help her out with this.
the 2 MAIN main protagonists are Sunna, daughter of Sol the Sun Goddess, and Hjuki, who was informally adopted by Mani the Moon God (along with his younger sister Bill). Sol and Mani are being chased by wolves rn though :( (There was some more stuff going on w that that I know Ive forgotten as well aggh)
& maybe introduced as Rivals & then later teaming up w them we have Loki and Sigyn's daughter Narfi, along with her cousin (slash informally adoptive brother), Odin's youngest son Váli.
Presumably these teens will get up to some shenanigans. Folks familiar with the Rival Teen Duo will b aware that they have a terrible tragic fate. They Do Not Know This.......Yet. :( This kind of stuff is why we have to destroy fate w the power of friendship bro
Meanwhile on Midgard this elementary schooler is making crop circles every day and she does such a good job and we love her for it.
But seriously Magic was Lost Somehow on Midgard and she and Hjuki are the first humans in a long time to be able to wield it. She takes to it much more naturally than Hjuki, but is too young for magic school and also maybe is so powerful that she might be seen as a problem and therefore needs to be kept secret on Midgard.

NOT feeling neutral or apathetic about the tuesdaysong, pont alexandre iii off the 1998 album Noir by alexander lasarenko. this is a sort of fun little film score exercise by a composer who did a lot of tv work, including PBS' NATURE. the drum fill does sound like it’s from 1998 and i mean that as a compliment. bond movies are emphathetically not noir although they occasionally borrow some visuals, but this piece reminds me of early daniel craig bond movies with the sleek synthy orchestra and subdued horns. they both have the same fuckin uhhhh. the british exotic location travelogue strings. the piano makes me think point and click mystery game.

star wars: yoda dark rendezvous by sean stewart. i am about halfway through but this reread is reviving memories of my last reread in uhhhhh. summer 2011 probably. this feels like it was half a concept for a middle grade book about a padawan finding her confidence and ability after losing her master very early in the clone wars, and half a concept for an adult book about the deep sorrow and loss between the treacherous count dooku and his former master, yoda. and in the background of all this ventress (ventress my worstie i love her) is begging and pleading to be made an apprentice while dooku flatly refuses. a generous reading would be “this is all history that rhymes and points to how the master/padawan relationship is not a good pedagogy method for either side and is deeply fucked up” but i think this idea is quite muddied in the middle of this book. it does not always feel deliberate that everyone at once is having trouble managing either their padawans' or their masters' emotions.
the tonal whiplash between the first few chapters is absolutely bonkers. like it's star wars, you couldn't Really show torture on screen or on the page in this specific storytelling era, but it's certainly implied. and then we get a fun field games day for the padawans in the next chapter!!! you don't really consume any star wars media for the prose, but the prose here occasionally gets in the way of itself. it does take a few chapters to find its footing but it is, as i remember, a snappy and fast read. one of the most goth settings in the starred wars imo. the soft plush moss that will start to dissolve your skin if you take a nap in the blood forest has stuck in my brain in the. idk, decade plus since i read this book.

The Big Sleep (1946, dir. Hawks) is just as good the third time around. i still have a great deal of difficulty following the plot, but this is a movie that first and foremost Looks incredibly good. shoutout to physical media once again bc this 2005 dvd from the turner classic media co. has solid, reliable, properly timed subtitles. none of the pirate streaming sites i like can boast the same for this particular movie.
in other news new felix colgrave short dropped and it is a bizarre perfect delight

beat wolfenstein: the new order on the babiest level and it still took me like forty minutes to sit through the cutscenes. it does such a good job of presenting you with all these very fun environments to run through that you manage to forget that you are very much on rails and it's essentially a boomer shooter (over the top maximalist first person shooter) cramming itself into hallways until the last level in the castle, which feels like endless corridors. im also cranky they showed me so many airships but never let me walk around on an airship. or throw a nazi off an airship.
might wanna get that tesla coil on fire checked out. like i know it's my fault but someone should be alerted about this
i don't really know that this game stuck the landing, for me. i think the last castle level really dragged, and the courtyard arena + the last hallway arena with the catwalks felt very same-y. it's also annoying to me that they give me a sniper rifle but there's no real way to use it as part of a stealth run. there aren't a lot of opportunities for stealth in the back half of this game. it is too much of a shooter and not enough of a narrative/rpg for my tastes, i think. i don't think i'll be continuing on with the series bc i'm not terribly attached to blazkowicz.
this and fallout are like The big AAA alt-history tentpoles, but it's a very small tent. this game was fun for what is was, which was a self-contained and fairly short shooter you're meant to play through twice to get two slightly different narrative routes. it reviewed well at the time and i think the reviews are pretty fair, i had a normal amount of fun aside from the sharp glee of the moon exhibit ramps and crawling through vents in the moon base, i liked it a normal amount and will not be integrating it into my personality. so it fuckin goes sometimes.

a baby (not mine) blanket, which will absolutely not be ready for the baby (again not mine) in a month and a half. this is going to end up about 40" square and is this pattern off ravelry. it is some flavor of caron baby yarn (i cannot currently find the ballband) on 4mm bamboo circs bc u cannot make a delicate baby blanket. what's the point. its going to go through the wettest hell you can imagine bc a baby's one job is to make fluids.
this pattern is just spicy enough that it's hard to watch TV and count stitches at the same time so i am BURNING through podcasts. slowly but surely getting caught up on A More Civilized Age and their three hour discussions of each star wars episode of Andor. five star podcast five star runtime

17. Past or present tense? Why?
Gosh, it really depends on the project. I was about to say present tense for modern and past tense for historical but uhhhhh looking at my posted fics that hasn't necessarily the case lol. I do tend to prefer present tense though; I think it meshes best with my writing's intimate narrative interiority.
23. Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?
Dialogue is sooooo much easy for me omggg. Description is harder because it's denser, and is the place where prose can really pop off the page (imo), so I whittle away at it more. Also, description is so important to the sense of a story's rhythm–which, yes, dialogue is too, but for me, it's more of a struggle, hence more of hassle to get right, if that makes sense!
33. Give your writing a compliment.
My banter snaps! Dialogue exchanges are a strength of mine, to be sure. Here's an example I loved writing:
“Oh my god,” he gasps. “Oh my fucking god.”
Frowning, Ingrid looks over her shoulder. “What—?”
Oh no.
He is holding The Shirt.
“This is my shirt!” (It is.) “You liar! You thief! You magpie-in-heat!” (She is x 3.)
“It’s mine!” (She lies). “But fine. You want it? Have it. That’s one of the few tops I don’t even care for.” (She lies x 2).

2 - Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?
Answered here, but I'll add another one cause why not. I don't think I've ever actually written a kid fic, either where one of the canon characters is a much younger child than they are in canon and it's about their childhood, or where you have canon characters becoming parents. I've thought about various versions of it a fair amount with various characters, but I've never really messed with anyone's age more than a few years in either direction. Willex would be great parents though, just saying...
4 - How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
Uhhhhh.... a lot? I don't have a ton of writing time at the moment, so the ideas are just building up in my head. There's at least half a dozen, probably more, in various stages of planning and daydreaming and being written.
One that I'm in the process of setting up is actually a response to a prompt you sent me like two weeks ago. Basically, Willex goes on an ice skating date. Neither has done it before, but both assume the other will be great at it, since they both dance and Willie is almost never without his beloved skateboard. Spoiler alert, they are both awful at it. Chaos and flirting and falling and probably a lot of hot chocolate ensues.

Stop making me say nice things about myself! Okay, answered here, but I guess you'll yell at me if I don't do another one so...
There were many things that were hard about being on tour. The long hours on the bus, for example. Or the fact that he couldn't just leave when Luke got too loud, or wail on his drums whenever he wanted, due to them being packed away between locations. But he loved touring with Julie and the boys. And he loved that Willie was able to come with them. Because it meant that he could do the things he loved, with the people he loved, all the time. They'd had to wait a couple of years after forming the band and Julie's Magical Hug of Destiny to go very far from LA since Julie had to finish high school, but they were finally doing it! And it was amazing!
Except when it wasn't. Except on days like this when Alex just didn't have the energy for anything beyond the basic necessities. And, unfortunately for him, his body and brain didn't count showering as a 'necessity’. It wasn't that he didn't like showering, or that he didn't feel sweaty and dirty, despite still definitely being partially a ghost. No, there was just something about showering, specifically in unfamiliar places, that freaked his brain out. And, because of the tour, Alex was always in an unfamiliar place.
This is from the first proper fic I ever published(Read it here). It was basically just a projection fic to get me through a rough patch, but I think it actually turned out okay and it holds a special place in my heart as the first thing I posted.

Then Willie turned around and Alex’s gaze fixed on his face. The conflicted wave of emotions from before seemed to have simplified into just two: excitement and fear. “What do you think?” they asked softly, chewing nervously on their lower lip.
Alex was across the room in an instant, pausing for a beat to wait for Willie’s nod before resting his hands on their biceps. “Willie, you look incredible! ” he stated quietly. “I’m pretty sure half of my brain isn’t even working right now with how good you look. How do you feel?”
Willie chuckled and stepped forward, leaning into Alex’s chest. “I feel good,” he whispered as Alex pulled him close. “I really like it.”
“I’m glad,” Alex murmured. “I really like it too.”
Willie pulled away suddenly, grinning as he threw his arms out and spun around in a circle, the black fabric flying out around him. “It’s so swishy!” they exclaimed, giggling.
I guess this? It's from a fic called It's New, It Looks Good On You that I published a few months back, in which Alex gets Willie their first skirt. I guess I just like how comfortable they feel around each other, even in a pretty vulnerable situation. Healthy relationships, my beloved!
23 - If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
Oh gosh, well none of my stuff is really that old. I only started actually writing early last summer. I guess... Okay, I didn't post I'll Be Here, I'll Hold You Through It till like six months ago, but I wrote it over a year ago now. It was basically written in a late night fit of anxiety and seriously needing a hug, and I feel like it isn't that good. I mostly posted it out of nostalgia and because I wanted to post something. I kinda feel like I could do better with the material now and it would be a better fic.
29 - If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Oh gosh, I wouldn't dare touch most of my favorite fics with a ten foot pole, I'd wreck them. But... there's some thoughts lurking in my ideas doc about a prequel to Girl Crush by the lovely @valiantlyweepingdreamer, giving the story of one of the couples that is already together in the main fic. I have no idea if I'll ever actually get around to writing it, but we discussed ideas for a while back in November I think.
37 - Talk about your current wips.
Oh you're gonna regret asking that one, I could ramble about my wips for hours. I'll try and keep it short here, and expand on the Willex ice skating fic I mentioned above. (No I haven't actually started writing it, shut up!)
The date is Alex's idea, cause Reggie and Luke were teasing him and Willie about how they never go on 'proper dates'(Hey, who needs to stay legal when you're invisible, and they have the best cuddle dates). So Alex googles a list of date ideas and is like, "Oh, ice skating, I bet Willie will be good at that." So they go(invisibly), snag a couple pairs of skates from the rental booth(They can put them back later, it's not like they're gonna leave germs on them or something, Alex!), and go out on the ice... only for Alex to immediately fall. Willie laughs and tries to help him up, only to lose his balance and fall too.
They kinda sort it out eventually, but they never get off the wall without hanging onto each other's hands for dear life. Afterwords, they poof back to the Molina's and make hot chocolate, because what is ice skating without hot chocolate?
38 - Talk about a review that made your day.
Okay, this was just on a doc I sent to a friend(after many conversations about said fic and me tinkering with it for literal months despite being under 1k long), but their response was so sweet!!!

2. How has this WIP changed since the “daydream/brainstorm” stage?
i'm going to talk abt erotica now lol
so i've mentioned before that wolf's tooth was initially just, like. i was at c2e2 and i was sitting in on panels and i needed something to do with my hands so i started designing characters for a smut comic feat. werewolves and that those characters were raleigh and kirby. and then i never finished the comic lol but i kept drawing the characters-- raleigh in particular, who's made of such fun shapes and doesn't have kirby's fucked up nose and is just so fun to draw over and over again for eternity.
EXCEPT.... you'll notice that in the drawings from 2019 ( those trad sketches are, like, The First Raleigh And Kirby Drawings, Ever, Drawn At-Con) raleigh Already has his story-reliant neck scars. that's because those were initially a sex thing lmao, BUT because i wasn't going to be finishing that original comic and i was getting more and more attached to the characters (and because i love thrashing my characters), i couldn't just... Not... explain those scars. And Therefore:
(look at how itty bitty the scar on his face is btw... it's just a baby :')...)
so the concept behind this stage in wolf's tooth's narrative is largely the same: raleigh goes to his boyfriend's mother's house with kirby's cousins and the house is surprise-attacked by another pack of werewolves; raleigh is bitten but he doesn't turn into a werewolf (at this point it was just, like, biology; sometimes it doesn't work and we don't really know why-- may revert to this if my balls out draft doesn't mesh in the end) and the gang goes on a roadtrip to get some revenge. However, in this stage the pedersen pack was much more, like... Chill. i'm really into werewolves and i love reading werewolf stories, and i'm really into comics so i had been spending a lot of time reading on tapas, and i realized that there was like a veritable wellspring of indie werewolf prose fiction on tapas. Unfortunately a lot of what i ran into was that, like... essentially-just-omegaverse; crazy-unexamined-power-dynamic; gender-essentialist; one-of-these-characters-is-just-going-to-be-a-woobie-nervous-baby-while-the-other-one-is-a-hotheaded-d-bag; one-of-them-is-16-the-other-is-30; horny-but-in-an-adolescent-way -type deal, and a lot of them had these like heavily abusive hypermasculine misogynist (without any women???????? this is the omegaverse factor bc even the, like, gay omegaverse is like bioessentialist misogyny with extra steps) pack dynamics that were seen as like Genre Standard (and i think it's because the Algorithm was feeding me largely romances + genres tend to eat each-other like that) and the oversaturation of it was really grating on me so my little transgay anarchist ass was like 'my werewolf pack is just going to be one big happy family', so i had essentially just cut the power dynamic factor entirely.
uhhhhh but then i had trouble writing the story, because there was a single conflict and i couldn't make that conflict work in my fluffy little werewolf world-- it just didn't fit the vibe, it didn't make a lot of sense. so i started to add power dynamics back into the story in a way that felt more meaningful and thematic: lovise wants her direct bloodline to maintain control of the pack but kirby doesn't want to be the alpha; the pack is too large for a single alpha to direct, because she can't be everywhere at once, so her subordinates are becoming impatient with the rigid rules she's implemented to try to keep up; individual interpersonal conflicts between wolves in different pods that make the pack less cohesive; external pressure from other smaller packs because the pedersens are just so scary powerful, etc. it's much darker and more stressful a narrative than it was initially, but to my genuine relief it's nowhere even close to those stories that i was trying so hard to push away from lmao
and that's how awtfr went from pwp (porn without plot) to pwp (porn With plot) to handing out trauma like i'm bad santa

uhhhhh i love the sensation of impending doom when you know a plot twist will be there at the end of the road specially in fantasy!!
i’m into two povs when it’s like Julia Quinn and other period authors do it or two first person povs in contemporary romances but the latter can trigger some self deprecating thoughts so i tend to avoid them when i know it’s gonna be too passionate
uhhh but like on the whole did you enjoy throne of glass?? i read the first one but…. i don’t know…. it felt too fanfic-esque for me which is terrible to say because there’s so much astonishing prose in here but i can’t think of any other way to describe it so i didn’t think it was worth my time but maybe you’ll change my mind? (i mean the 7-9 povs makes me wanna run for the hills haha)

The following is completely my personal opinion and doesn't represent others.
(I hope noone will bash me)
You see, I loved Acotar. I fell in love with it. I'm still obsessing over it. So, I had high hopes for TOG. But it was a complete and utter disappointment. I rated the Throne of Glass series 2 and 3 stars out of 5. I suffered and suffered through books after books. I usually read 700 pages on a good day. These 8 books took me 1.5 months to finish.
I kind liked book one, because I love Dorian, I adore my princeling, but then Chaol was meh and I couldn't stand Celaena whilst Rowan didn't do it for me either. The only reason I kept going with this series, even though the characters were meh and the story was mild, was because Dorian and Manon were brilliant. Even Lorcan was intriguing. But if those three weren't in the books, I would have DNFed the very first book in my life.
I know why people like it, I can see why they would like it and I respect that, but for me it was a freaking struggle. So all in all, does it get better after the first two books? Yes, because new interesting characters come along. But the plot is still mild, most of the characters are boring or arrogant and the way it's written, jumping between multiple povs as if you were travelling between events like when you accidentally flip 5 pages at a time, made me physically (I'm not lying) pull my hair. So, do with that information what you will.
Yes, I get you, but then those teenage, whining, pinning books are usually targeted for teenagers. So obviously they will be slightly more cringey. I don't think it's bad though, it's just different. As an adult, I do prefer the snarky, steamy pinning, but when I was a teenager, I could melt at those cringey teenage pinning scenes xD
I do plan to read 'People we meet on vacation', but I'm on a book buying ban until August so I have to read what's on my shelf :D I'm glad you actually said "how disappointing was Book Lovers" because I can go into it with a bit more scepticism and I won't be as disappointed if it's bad. But then I heard so much good about it (BookTok) that at this point I just have to decide for myself. I will read it after I finish my current read and can I ask you to rant to me about it once I finished? :D
Okay, I'm going to be very transparent with you about Tessa Bailey. Is she my favourite author? Nope! Are her stories excellent? Nope! But she is good and her stories have some sort of an edge. I personally have a love hate relationship with her books. I don't like them like I'm intrigued by the characters or they have amazing plot lines. They don't. But at the same time, I can't put them down. I can't explain to you what it is. They piss me off, but I love them. Do I even make sense? Anyway, I always recommend her because of my ambivalent feelings about her books xD
