What are your Twewy reaper headcanons?
NORMAL, I HAVE A NORMAL AMOUNT OF REAPER HEADCANONS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING
Okay so if you count Def March (which I absolutely do) there's twelve named Shibuya reapers. Which fits with the fact that every reaper corresponds to an animal of the chinese zodiac.
Tumblr media
I'm just guessing with BJ and Tenho, according to Nomura every reaper has a hidden kanji in their names representing their animal, but I can't read japanese so I took a shot in the dark. Also, fun fact, Minamimoto can't rearrange the radicals in his name to spell boar, like he can with lion, his true noise form. But he's got a lot of boar symbolism, being found in Pork City, and his Leo Cantus Armo form having tusks, which ties into the fact that the Shinjuku reapers all have motifs based on hanafuda suits. MORE ON THAT LATER I AM VERY NORMAL ABOUT HIM.
Ahem. So awhile back I was considering writing a fic on all the Shibuya reapers and how they came to have their current jobs, what their games were like, etc. (Might still write this. I've been busy)
So I sat down to try and come up with headcanons for EVERY named Shibuya reaper, and now I hold every one of them near and dear to my heart.
Kariya is mentioned in game as the oldest reaper, probably having been around for longer than anyone else. I like to imagine there's a huge gap between him and any other current reaper, which drives Mitsuki CRAZY, this chill dude just hangs around and eats candy but also has seniority???? Also he's more powerful than any other reaper save maybe the composer?
The thing that did him in was lung cancer. The lollipop's a replacement cigarette, in much the same way people recommend chewing on hard candy if you're trying to quite smoking. Why did he decide to quit after he died, and he no longer had anything to worry about? Listen the Game's all about growth, and Kariya is possibly the strongest because he is so capable of change, of going with the flow, and learning from his mistakes.
Like every ex-Player, he had a partner when he won his game, and I don't have a whole lot of headcanons for them except 1) they chose to return to life, and 2) Uzuki reminds him of them a lot.
Mitsuki was a woman working her ass off to try and make it in male-led office, until she literally worked herself to death. As you might expect, this royally pissed her off. She was desperate to return to life, but unfortunately, her entry fee came as a pair. What her partner, a simple farmwoman from out of town, valued most was the ability to go unnoticed and unremarked on, while Mitsuki deeply coveted every scrap and morsel of recognition she could get.
So their partnership was cursed so no matter what they did, people's eyes would skate over Mitsuki, dismiss her, and Mitsuki's partner would be lauded with the credit. Mitsuki became almost invisible, while her partner was forced to step up and do most of the talking.
This led her partner feeling more comfortable with being seen, with taking up space, so when the chance came to return to life, she took it with grace. Mitsuki, on the other hand, came to realize she liked working from the shadows. And besides, she could have more power as a reaper than anything a stupid company of the living could offer her...
Higashizawa is pretty simple, both in the game and in my headcanons. He's a cook. Maybe an army cook, but the point is he values food as a part of life, and had to cope with entry fee in the game being unable to eat, despite all the other players, including his partner, being able to.
I picture his partner on the younger side, maybe a cadet, maybe not. They had a very sweet dynamic, very paternal. Even though he couldn't eat, Higashizawa would break into restaurants that didn't have a reaper decal, and "commandeer" their kitchens to make dishes, which, despite only one of them eating them, saved them enough yen and gave enough stat boosts for them to win the game. And led to a spiked increase in reports in "haunted kitchens" for the week they were playing.
Kitanji is TRANS. I know this for a fact. Mr. Square Enix himself told me.
"Megumi" is technically a unisex name but much more commonly a feminine one, something that is actually brought up in the manga, when my dumb cat son tries to nickname Kitanji and Kitanji snaps back that he's very sensitive about his name and was bullied as a kid. This is a trans guy.
He ran a record store in life that unfortunately fell victim to an armed robbery, and Kitanji was killed. His most important thing, his name, was taken from him as his entry fee. This further parallels him to Neku, who woke up in the game knowing nothing but his name. It could also explain why he's so distrusting of Shibuya and thinks the world would simply be better if everyone conformed; after being on the end of transphobic bullying in life, the idea of standing out and embracing the chaos of being a unique soul terrifies him.
MINAMIMOTO is my dumb stupid goth catboy son and I am INSUFFERABLE about him. I have SO many headcanons it's insane.
First off, he died of general exposure, as he was homeless for most of his life. This nicely ties into his habit of collecting garbage, making trash into something brash and artistic, and his general attitude of making himself heard and assertive, while still being so in tune with the flow of the city and people that he has powers unseen in any other reaper. Minamimoto was ignored by the city in life so in death HE IS GOING TO KILL GOD AND TAKE HIS PLACE. WHILE BEING EXTREMELY LOUD ABOUT IT.
So it stands to reason that his entry fee, upon entering the game, was his voice. For the entire game, he was completely mute.
(One of the first things he did as a reaper, was get his megaphone.)
His partner was a diver from the coast who's entry fee was her memories of her home. She knew she had one, she just couldn't remember where, and who was waiting for her in the living world. They developed a series of hand signs for Sho to communicate with, both having a rough grasp of JSL, Sho from some fellow homeless people who were deaf and her from her experience as a diver.
My other big, big headcanon for him is, about 3/4s of the way through the week, she died. Sho, knowing about the seven minutes rule because he picks things up quickly, knew he didn't have long to live if he let her soul energy dissipate and that she would never find out where he home was, but it was MOSTLY about his own survival, shut up, collected up her soul data and tried balancing her equation and a bunch of other Minamimoto nonsense I am not smart enough to write. x = acos(t) and y = asin(t) over root 2 and all that.
He turned her into a noise.
After all, transformation is kinda his thing, and he's notably skilled at manipulating Soul and giving it new forms. He was the one who discovered the loophole that Beat would use to save his sister in week 1. It's what originally put him on Hanekoma's radar as someone to keep an eye on. Hanekoma also made note of the process in case he ever needed it.
After that, Minamimoto went on to win the game, have his partner restored to life, and was now far too curious about studying Soul and Noise to even think of doing anything else but staying in the UG.
His noise form, while originally a boar, he managed to by complete force of will shape into a lion, just because he wanted to be a lion.
He had a short tenure as a wall reaper, where he would ask impossibly long math questions of the "A train leaves Philadelphia at 8:00am traveling 90 mph" variety. This caused him to be promoted to an Officer just to stop him from being a Harrier, and some rules to be laid down regarding what can and can't be a viable quiz for the wall questions.
Def March was a real band before they died, probably in some hilarious way, that killed all three of them. Being Shibuya's only instance of a rare three person pact, their collective entry fee was their memories of knowing each other in life, but they decided to stick together anyways despite having no idea who these random two other guys they woke up in the afterlife with were. Cue clown music as they proceed to become best friends and vow to start a band together once they win the game.
They decided to stay as reapers once they won because none of them could think of anything cooler than a metal band that was actually dead.
Although still very passionate about music, most of their memories of being a band getting erased meant they had some space to explore new hobbies. BJ and Tenho decided to combine their newfound loves of bar trivia and local history into a new method of Harrying, known as the Reaper Review.
Coco wasn't able to see much of the city when she was alive, being hospital bound for most of her life before losing the fight to a chronic illness at a young age. So she took to being a reaper with gusto, diving in to the local trends and culture like she was starving for it. Her entry fee might be considered a paltry thing to most, the ability to see color, but it truly was the thing about herself she valued most. After a life of drab grey walls and sterile surfaces, color was deeply important to her, none moreso than the colors she chose for herself.
She's also the most adventurous of the Shibuya reapers, being the one to actually leave the district and travel to other places in the city, which is how she and Tsugumi became friends.
Uzuki is the second newest reaper, having died recently of a heart attack (see the sprites where she clutches her chest when taken off guard) Like Mitsuki, she was originally deeply annoyed by her life being cut short, but adapted quickly to the new structure of the reapers and is aiming high after realizing how much more being a reaper can offer her. I genuinely have no idea what her entry fee might have been so I am currently in the market for a good headcanon there.
Joshua is the most recent addition to the Shibuya reapers
Okay, hear me out.
First off, I am obsessed with the fanon that Joshua and Fret knew each other in life. Joshua is heavily implied in the first game to have taken his own life, while Fret speaks in the second about losing a friend to what is heavily implied to be suicide. The idea that the loss that set Fret down the path of repression and insincerity was Joshua scratches my brain in such a satisfying way.
Second, he's a prodigy in all things UG related, but has the general attitude and personality of someone actually the age he appears to be. Boy is chronically 15. I think it's much more likely he died a little more than a year or two ago before the start of twewy and rose through the ranks quickly, rather than being some eternally 15 twerp whose been around for years.
It is mentioned he knew Hanekoma in life, and would visit CAT street frequently to talk about the UG, which is something he could see even before he died. He killed himself knowing where he would go, and how he was special.
So I think his entry fee is he got to the UG and couldn't see anything.
No noise, no reapers, no players. Hanekoma was waiting for him, being just enough of a non-game-related entity to at least give him a heads up and see he got a Pact. Joshua himself doesn't know much about his partner, being unable to see them for the entire game. But he did rely on them. Trust your partner. In Josh's case, he had to.
Also, think about the blood vessel Uzuki would pop if she learned that the all powerful composer who wields the power of the entire city with a mysterious anonymity had actually been with the UG shorter than she has.

how both the rg and ug interact with one another has always been strange to an extent. in-universe people have always acknowledged that there is something going on, particularly in the first twewy with the existence of reaper creeper at least reflecting how urban myths have popped up as a result + scanned npc dialogue often times referring to “strange happenings” such as seeing people with wings. however, despite there being limitations with how much players and reapers can interact with the ug, the rules as to what can be brought back in neo is particularly weird.
aside from how confusing the plot point of nearly every wicked twister being not actually dead yet managing to interact with the ug and what i’m assuming to be certain people in the rg in beat’s case, but shoka the iguana has always puzzled me.
Tumblr media
most animals shown within the games are noise, and as far as i’m aware (unless secret reports have clarified this and i forgot) dead animals can’t enter the reaper’s game. of course reapers have a bit more freedom, such as 777 being able to start a popular band with little consequence, so it leads me to question if shoka the iguana either was bought and taken into the ug or somehow died alongside ayano and got a free pass in (and she changed its name/finally gave it one upon making friends with shoka, but this is incredibly unlikely altogether).
it doesn’t ruin anything but it’s just a little odd and also makes me wonder if, were there to be a third game or even something like the extra stuff added to the first game’s rereleases, we could potentially see some exploration of the rg and ug’s relationship.

How does death work in the TWEWY universe, from the perspective of the living?
Thinking logically, I might believe that the Players are merely in a coma, stubbornly refusing to die until they either get erased or win.
But it's also so amusing to have the idea of a Player winning the game and crawling out of their own grave because they were, in fact, Actually Deceased.
REAL this is bonkers to me
•the coma idea is neat but i doubt there’s any doubt in the minds of living people that these guys are dead. we know eri referred to shiki as having died.
•i believe it was established in the reports in the first game that by the composer’s power they are reformed with a new body (iirc). which begs the question of what happens to their old body that’s been buried or cremated or w/e. wouldn’t that be wild if it just remained so when the person died again now they had two bodies in the same grave or w/e lol*
•i think it was implied in neo at some point that once someone comes back to life the living sort of just. forget??? that the person ever died??? which is insane. like their memories of reality are overwritten by the lie that the composer feeds them. only the reborn person knows the truth which. ouch. that has to be a horrible burden to carry. but it makes sense
•but i also think. if i remember correctly shoka has a line (i think she was talking to beat?) that’s like ‘geez how does she even remember you’ when he’s talking about how he’s communicating with rhyme. which. girl what do you MEAN. is she implying that the living forget the dead ever existed at all even if the dead have not been erased yet??? that can’t be right. we know eri remembered shiki. or is it specifically because of the weird thing that happened to the people who got pulled into the game without dying. where like their entire presence online got erased (why exactly did that happen? idk)
•i think they say something about how rhyme and shiki, as former ug residents, can see beat, rindo, fret, and nagi even across ground lines because those guys are not truly dead. ordinary rg residents can’t see them at all and no rg residents can see neku and shoka are truly dead. idk. but still i would like to know what the situation was like for, say, nagi. someone alive in the ug. did the people who knew her temporarily forget her. dude
*another set of questions has been raised. sorry <3
•first question: do all of the recent dead in an area automatically join the game? most are probably erased, and probably immediately. twewy week one has dialogue that implies the size of that week’s game was a mere 12 people. idk what average number of people in a given population die per week in real life so idk what conclusion to draw there. but probably more than 12 in all of shibuya lol.
•anyway, if it’s not everyone, if where do the other dead go??? instant erasure?? i think it might be that as a test to see who’s worthy of rebirth, only certain people even get a ticket into said test. like the reapers use their prejudice to determine if you’re even worth inviting. or if that’s not the case, the people who get in could simply be the people who WANT to live again. a lot of people probably just accept oblivion. the reason we only see plucky young kids (or like. nerds and influencers in neo lol) is because they still had entire lives ahead of them and were not at all prepared for death. so the reapers might’ve just like read their souls and determined their desire. of course we see like the twewy main 5 all being like ahhhh idk if i have anything to come back to am i even worth it… but that’s just them lamenting the state of their lives. that’s not the same as openly welcoming death.
•second question: could you die and play the reaper’s game multiple times? cheating death infinitely because you’re just that good at solving puzzles beating noise? imagine a player on their fifth life and death the reapers are like ‘c’mon man just join us already it’s the only path to angelhood aka the ideal highest state of being. every game is a gamble and you’re only getting older and less capable. don’t you want to chill out and live in peace?’ and the player’s like ‘no shut up i don’t want your crummy job. i still have so many books to read and my cats need me. i’ll see you in like a month when i inevitably fall down the stairs again’
tldr: ‘oh simple ask i’ll respond right away with just a few words and a normal amount of thoughts about the twewyverse’

i just got all the achievements on neo twewy after weeks and heres some stuff i learned (no spoilers btw)
lets see
the one for being a frequent customer you get when that repeat option shows up on their menu
at tokyu hands you can trade 2 gem pins for another one, the pairs are rare metal and tektite, adamantite and orichalcum, and shadow and dark matter scarletite is an ultimate drop only
if you want to grind stats:
style - 300 cap (you only need 222) - air in a can (vegelovers - tower records)
attack - 500 cap - that spicy black ramen i forgot the name (suzu slurps - dogenzaka)
hp and defense - 999 and 500 cap respectively - tuna head (sby bbq - tipsy tose hall)
scramble slam sucks but heres how you get the rewards:
put the game on ultimate and reduce your level, you get more points this way
the way you get points is by doing beatdrop combos which means you need a lot of enemies that last
also theres a multiplier that goes up by 0,4x everytime you do a combo in battle up to a max 5x, save the enemy with the 3x until you max the multiplier
make the biggest chain you can with JUST ONE slam noise, thats enough to make the whole chain track points, also you can do chain battles with rival players too just let the noise get you then walk up to the player, once youre done, leave the area then come back so the noise respawn
anyways, equip the basic shockwave and force rounds pins so you slowly kill enemies, equip the rest of your party members with pins you want to grind just make sure they dont have x or y inputs
start attacking with shockwave, once the beatdrop circle shows up switch to force rounds only when its past half (delaying a pin gives it a bit of time to regen, enough to give you one extra full use), repeat the process with force rounds, you can make the most of the pins this way, its like, 5 uses of shock and 4 of rounds, a lot of combos
youre gonna make a fuckton of points this BUT chains are gonna be LONG AS FUCK, 40 minutes up to an hour, be warned
second slam is going to be a massive pain in the ass it took me 8 chains to do it (would be less if i remembered to reduce level)
theres a limited amount of the ion trade pins, theres a few you can miss, look it on gamefaqs i dont remember them, youre gonna need all of them for all the pins and threads
you cant get all the fp you need to complete the network by just doing quests and gold dives on regular days, youre gonna need some extra 15 points you get from a LONG dive in another day, its 10 rounds long and kinda hard, the last round is the worst, its two angry bears and a t rex noise (also angry) save a killer remix for this round, the t rex deals a fuckton of damage and if it eats one party member you wont survive the roar that comes next, watch out
hog healer and affinity weaknesses are your best friends for tough fights remember this
for the love of god grind pp on easy on another day, difficulty doesnt change the pp you get (i think the same applies to xp)
the noisepedia completion gives you a graffiti when you hit 80% but youre gonna need 100% for it to count on the save file complete percentage
ive seen ultimate shibuya hikarie w3d5 and ultimate cat street another day be recommended for money grinding but for the most part i disagree (bc i died often, you need high drop rates for these methods)
the way i do it is ultimate o-east w1d5, the chains last less than a minute and only give like 180 to 200 thousand yen, a lot less than the other methods but the short chains make up for it, this method is also good for grinding food (you do need to take the longest route for the tuna heads which can be infuriating considering the load times)
most secret reports are unlocked by defearting boss noise, 3 of them unlock by network completion, the last one only when you get all others, also boss noise respawn if you come back to the area so you dont have to redo the day like in og twewy
its safer to increase drop rate by threads than decreasing level remember that for annoying fights dont worry most abilities arent that good anyway (I NEVER GOT THAT ONE THAT SAVES YOU FROM A FATAL ATTACK TO WORK FUCK THIS GAME)
plague noise only show up on story fights so you cant chain them, go in with high drop rates, you fight almost all of them in quick succession in the day you have to go after that guy, w3d6 i think?
the last boss is the only boss noise you cant chain also for some reason you can soundsurf when it starts throwing balls at you, use that to get groove
for the superboss on another day i recommend using hog healer (to heal), fang defender (to protect yourself from its HIGHLY damaging dash attack wich you can also dodge, but i found it harder and using this pin fully heals you if you get it right), and a lot of pins you can use at once in an all out attack, if one party member gets attacked the other ones will keep going, i recommend using darkness pins since they can stun and pins with easy beatdrop conditions, use killer remixes only when the armor is up, most of the fight is dodging
just do the time trial on easy no one cares anyway
for the remind graffiti theres like one or two you can miss, again, look it up on gamefaqs bc i forgor💀
you dont need to get 100% drop for the worst fights, thats what killer remix is for, 75% is fine, its worse to make a long ass chain than it is to just do another fight
i need to explain how the killer remix drop rates work so heres how:
YOU DONT GET 0,5x PER PARTY MEMBER
thats why youre probably wondering why it isnt always 3x
the way it works is that you get a 0,5 per pin that has that little ready above it (thats what its for, i always wondered that) to get that ready you need to use that pin in a beatdrop combo either as the one that starts or the one that ends it
synergy abilities apply for the whole party strangely enough
theres a thread that gives you more time with pig noise, anyway brute forcing with killer remixes usually work no matter what
shiba is a toxic bottom
anyway thats all
as for what i think abt the game now that im DONE with it, love it honestly, and despite the fact it didnt meet sales expectations i think, im still hopeful for it, twewy survived bc it was so beloved by the devs i guess so theres that, also imagine if next games were on other cities famous for their urban culture that would be so fashion like

2 and 20 !
2. current favorite character(s)?
...do you really have to ask?
Jokes aside, TWEWY and NTWEWY both have such fun casts, I do genuinely like most of the characters. But the Hachiko Squad (Neku, Shiki, Joshua, Beat, Rhyme) will always far and above be the most special to me, I think. They are some of my favorite characters ever, not just from TWEWY, but from any media. They're an excellent group that for me, is also covered in a heavy coat of nostalgia paint.
If you're asking about my literal fave though, singular?
...really, you need to ask...?
20. favorite quote(s)?
Oh boy, this one's tough because there's far, far too many great quotes. I'm of course a fan of Hanekoma's classic:
"The world ends with you. If you want to enjoy life, expand your world. You gotta push your horizons out as far as they'll go."
...as well as most of Hanekoma's life advice quotes honestly, because they truly do capture the message of the game. Even "Enjoy the moment," in all it's simplicity, is a great reminder to myself whenever I start getting lost in the noise. Special shout out to Secret Report 18 (Section: "Why does individuality exist?") and Secret Report 20 ("Accept society as an ever changing thing...")
Also:
"Only by allowing strangers in, can we find new ways to be ourselves."
I really could go on and on and end up quoting a good portion of the game because this doesn't even scratch the surface nor cover the breadth of lines that I enjoy simply because they made me laugh out loud. And doesn't even get into NEO (which I need to replay). Iirc, I enjoyed Nagi's little speech on humanity and communication (despite it ringing a bit odd with how dismissive she is of Fret from the outset).
But I'm going to close this with one that's probably a bit more obscure:
"Nothing we do in life is ever truly a waste."
Spoken by none other than Shrimp, our favorite hapless Reaper Creeper guinea pig RG businessman. It's such a simple quote, and optional, too, but it speaks volumes to me. I remind myself of it often.

I finally finished Joshua Day 2 in my TWEWY replay yesterday. Got his Brave level to 120 after 3-4 days of feeding him and Neku crepes and fighting Noise near the Mexican Hot Dog restaurant. Fought them on Hard mode and ended up with more than a dozen rare metal + copies of battle pins that I ended up selling.
Also, I'm happy to report that I still know how to play Tin Pin Slammer well even though I haven't played this game in years. Tin Pin Slammer is one of my favorite mini games in Japanese style RPGs.
Once the mission was over, I went to Molco and got Neku the Tiger Punks jacket with some rare metal and some quest stuff I picked up somewhere. I think it was from that Reaper that was blocking 104 . I wanted Neku to have something cool to wear because I didn't think it was fair to have Joshua have a cool outfit but not Neku.

Shibuya syndrome’s only redeeming quality was serving as a pretext for Operation Awakening.
It really was like one of neo’s most grating plot elements, ‘oh no this noise is eating people’s soul!’ as if that wasn’t a thing noise have been doing since day 1 without such severe effects.  Noise+ with more devastating impact, I guess, but I found it hard to buy.
I try to give neo some credit for taking a different approach to its story instead of retracing twewy’s footsteps.  But shibuya syndrome, 3-week structure, and Rindo being Joshua’s proxy (...? For uh, reasons and purposes the game is committed to never making clear) are all places where neo hews too close to the original to its own detriment.
A lot of the effectiveness of ‘to right the countless wrongs’ in twewy was finding the npc’s we’ve gotten to know fall under its influence.  And while Ryoji might be one such example, and kariya/ayano/kanon all succumbed to it to some degree, these were all story events.  It wasn’t a part of the world in the sense that the player could choose to run up to talk to them only to be hit with “...”.
That’s another thing, the wonderful world mantra was both more unsettling and thematically relevant than uh, nothing at all.  You could try to extract some meaning of Shibuya syndrome reflecting Rindo’s unwillingness to speak up.  But compared to the crystal clear role to right the countless wrongs plays in twewy’s message it feels incredibly lacking.
In terms of lore and world building, it’s also a nuisance.  There isn’t really a thorough explanation of how operation awakening even solved shibuya syndrome.  Sync up with them and send a reminder, sure, got it.  But what happened to all the noise?  The cinematic with people’s soul’s leaving their bodies is also incredibly hard to parse.  Oh other weirdness, on day 4 with the ‘zombies’, why are the wicked twisters even viewing people in the rg a threat?  I guess the noise in them could come leaping out at them but it’s still weird and disorienting.  I’d hoped the secret reports would’ve offered more clarity to all this, but in the words of coco, lol nope jk.

Been kind of meaning to ask since the icon change but your thoughts on TWEWY?
LOVE it. it's got such a unique, fun gameplay mechanic--I can legit entertain myself for hours just running around swapping pins and fighting noise, not progressing the plot at all lmao. (not tin pin tho. i suck ass at tin pin.)
the art style and soundtrack give the game such a loud, distinct personality too that was a big part of what initially drew me in. I love how the music and art combine to make the Shibuya of the game such a vibrant setting! I thought going in the outfit customization would be a bit annoying to keep up with, but actually the shops and emphasis on fashion added a lot of flavor to the setting too!
and pretty much all the characters are so fun!! especially the often over the top, larger than life personalities of the reapers in particular (*cough cough* Sho lmao). I would've gone with Uzuki for my avatar if I'd found any better/clearer screenshots of her when I was cleaning out my Switch photos because I LOVE HER. but the player's are great too! obv I love my girl Shiki, but Beat's dumb ass is great and I'm one of the few weirdos who actually really enjoyed Joshua being such a little shit. I think legit the only character I didn't like right off the bat was Neku, funnily enough. (and that was really just a momentary eyeroll at the ugh misanthropic loner player character before it quickly became evident the whole point was for him to grow out of his misanthropy and not that loners are cool.)
and I really found the story the perfect combination of confusing and touching too. love when there's a bunch of crazy lore to dig into, even though I've still never actually bothered to collect all the secret reports myself lol.
OH also I got/recently finished the Switch port of the game and, yeah, it loses something porting from a two screen system to one screen, but I really think the Switch port gets a bad rap. maybe it's because I played it handheld, not docked (which does seem bad), but I thought they did about the best job they could with converting one of the few DS games that really took full advantage of the two screen display into something that worked on a single screen system. the updated HD art is GORGEOUS. and tbh fighting with your partner on the DS version was soooo hard and I'm a bad at video games baby so I honestly think playing the Switch port was more enjoyable lmao.

okay, got all the secret reports and pigs in neo twewy
just need to get... like fifty pins and one piece of clothing (stupid limited quantity specialty pins) and i think i’ll have everything for this one? aside from, like, full noise report, but honestly i’ve never cared about things like that
also god i love how unhinged the angels are, just like ‘hey i know you think all your friends are vanished from existence but give me a tour of shibuya kthx’ and ‘oh good job defeating the giant cloud of evil noise you inadvertently created! now i’ve decided you’re gonna play a game of hide and seek, nope you have no choice in the matter byeeeeeeee’

hello! a couple of months ago (I think) I sent you an incredibly long ask about neo twewy lol, so I was thinking that the site might have swallowed it...did you receive it?
hi anon! (twewy anon? hiii!!)
sorry for the late reply, it's hectic times at work at the moment, but i haven't seen anything recently! so unfortunately i think it might have been swallowed up by tumblr's usual brokenness? last i heard from you (well, from twewy anon) was when you just finished the main story. argh it really sucks when you write a long comment and it just disappears into the ether, i hope you can remember what you wrote!
i'm kinda... not very far along since where i was during the winter holidays (still working on week 2 akgj;aljgkajg it's slow going) but i did! get through the big plot twist in week 2! [obligatory spoiler tag!!! although i think everyone and their cat has finished neo twewy ahead of me by now] and can i say i absolutely did NOT in a million years imagine Beat popping up in the Game again. i mean i suspected that it wasn't Neku a couple of days in (i also did notice that the supposed Neku's hair was blonde while original TWEWY Neku's hair was more orange-y-ish, but i also thought maybe... no bleach or hair dye while on the run in the UG, maybe?). but then Beat was all YOYOYO and i just hollered at my computer for a good five minutes, i was just so taken off guard by it. to be honest i was sort of spoilered for Joshua's identity in the original game (although not his motives) so i think i didn't get the full impact of his reveal, whereas this time the surprise of Beat's appearance totally worked on me. i love the games so much the twists are just so great lmao.
(but also WHERE IS NEKU WHERE IS HE).
ngl though, i am loving older!Beat in this game. i think the stakes were higher in the original game where he was so concerned about Rhyme so he's freaking out all the time, but here he's just so zen and mouths off everyone giving absolutely no shits and i love his conversations with Uzuki and Kariya. i do like that it's implied that he was also looking for Neku, but also it's fascinating to me that the Twister gang are all playing the game alive. because in the original game Kariya said that playing the game alive means they have more power at hand to draw on. and also, someone is out there recruiting players for the game (again), with a specialized player pin to boot...
anyway i'm still slowly working my way through the game and dodging spoilers left and right! a lot of people have stopped the embargo on spoilers (very fair, it's been nine months) but i'm trying hard! to go into things as blind as possible! wish me luck!

some sort of neo twewy tag/ask game or whatever i guess (feel free to skip a question if you don’t have an answer btw! just say whatever you like!)
•favorite new character?
•favorite returning character?
•favorite new song?
•returning old song that you think was most improved?
•returning old song that you think was done the dirtiest?
•song from the original that you wish had returned?
•menu theme?
•dive/boss battle that you struggled the most on?
•type of noise that you would send straight to hell no questions asked?
•type of noise from the original that you wish had returned?
•if you mostly kept each character mapped to the same button for the entire game, who was on which one?
•if you put minamimoto back into your party in postgame, whose spot did he take?
•favorite scene?
•chapter that felt like a drag?
•which plot twists did you see coming, and how early on?
•did you get all the secret reports/ending?
•if you could have any character’s special psych irl, which would you choose?
