About Dan
Something I would like to see addressed more in Danny Phantom fanworks, especially crossovers, is that Dan is not Danny.
Just to be clear, I don't mean that in a "Danny didn't take that path and didn't become that person" way. A lot of stories tend to refer to Dan as an evil version of Danny from another timeline, but that's not what he is.
Dan is not Danny.
He never was.
Dan is not Danny's evil future self. He is not Danny from an alternate Timeline. He is not Danny at all.
In Dan's timeline, Danny and Vlad both got split in half. The ghost halves of both merged and became Dan. Dan is a new entity who was made from half of Danny and half of Vlad. He is not a version of Danny any more than he's a version of Vlad.
Dan actually has more in common with Vlad both physically and personality-wise. Physically, Dan has Danny's hair color and face shape, but he has Vlad's eye color, skin tone, fangs, ear shape, and hair texture. Personality wise, Dan got Vlad's cruelty, ego, lack of empathy, some of his manipulative tendencies, and his flair for the dramatic. He got Danny's impulsiveness.
There are similarities between Dan's origin and the "evil future self from a bad future" plot that is so common in superhero stories, but that's not what Dan is. Danny doesn't exist in Dan's timeline. His human half is dead and his ghost half was part of the materials used to make Dan. This is spelled out pretty explicitly in the show. The Boo-merang doesn't track Dan because it's locked onto Danny's ecto-signature, not Dan's.
You could compare Dan to an offspring of Danny and Vlad. It would certainly be closer than calling him a version of Danny. That said, I think the better description would be that, whatever Frankenstein's creation was to the people whose graves Frankenstein robbed to make him, that's what Dan is to Danny and Vlad.
Danny's fears regarding the Dan timeline would not be about his own potential to go bad, but about Danny's friends and family dying, Danny being left at Vlad's mercy with no support system, and Vlad experimenting on him in a way that results in Danny's death and Dan's creation, and Danny ending up in a bad enough state of mind to let him do it.
I noticed that a lot of Danny Phantom and DC crossovers especially tend to simplify Dan into an alternate Danny who had a villain arc, and it occurred to me that a lot of people approaching from the DC side of things probably never watched The Ultimate Enemy and don't know the actual story behind Dan.
It's really too bad, because I think there's a lot to be done with it.

I want a story where Dan sees Danny as a human and he just freezes for a split second. The Vlad part of Dan feeling kinship and mourning with the poor boy and the Phantom part of Dan suddenly feeling remorse and fear. The memories of Dan walking away from Danny, human half of Vlad scrambling to scoop him into his arms, flashing in front of his eyes as he stared at Danny. Ten years of anger, fear, and compartmentalizing one's own feelings freeing themselves as he stares at what he used to be before he turned himself into a monster
Dan may of killed the human half of Danny Fenton; but that doesn't mean he can't feel human emotions.

Day 20+28: Nasty Burger+Campfire
Tumblr media
I'm not crying, you're crying! (╥﹏╥)
As I mentioned in a previous DannyMay prompt, in his quest for redemption (after being released from the Thermos by Clockwork), Little Baby Terror (Dan) teams up with @tourettesdog's Little Baby Man to destroy every boiler of Nasty Sauce and its very receipe to avoid any incident to ever happen to either their family of anyone else.
They're both a bit emotional here, yanno...

I have a theory that TUE AU is not AU. Phantom-Plasmius fusion damaged Danny really hard but didn't kill him. Vlad saved the boy whom is in coma since that moment. All next eps are Danny's comatose dream. So, episodes where he's about to lose his power is an attempt to wake up. Although Danny has chosen to dream his 'happily ever after' forever (Phantom Planet is the END), we can imagine that Danny woke up after all. I just want to know what words Vlad would say first to him. (I hope, it's not "Okay, Daniel, we both are going to psychology help")
The image of Vlad caring for a comatose Danny is giving me major Snow White vibes, anon, and I love it.
Picture a frantic Vlad scurrying around his lab immediately following the carnage, trying to get his systems back online so he can save Danny. He repurposes the cloning tanks—or tank; all the others were destroyed—to serve as life support. He gently hooks the comatose teen up to the respirator and inserts the intravenous nutrition tubes, then lowers him into the glowing green stasis gel with his own scratched, scabby hands.
Vlad hasn't showered or eaten or slept in days at this point. Preserving Danny's life is his first and only priority. (He feels so pitifully weak without his ghost half to give him strength. But he must go on, for Danny's sake.)
He watches Danny for a few moments to make sure the boy is breathing normally. The rhythmic expanding of his chest indicates he is. Vlad swings around to check the monitors' cracked screens. They dutifully mark each beat of Danny's pulse, blood pressure, brain activity, and other vitals. Sighing with relief, Vlad seals the hatch on the tank and slumps against the glass.
Now he can sleep.
Over time, the tank becomes a coffin holding all that's left of Vlad's hope. He treats it like an idol. He builds a dais around it, shrinelike, and tends it devotedly, polishing the glass until it gleams without smear or smudge. He lights candles around it, drapes it with cloth to make it look holy and sanctified, and spends long, silent hours on his knees in front of it, staring, praying. He makes living quarters in his lab so he can be near Danny 24 hours a day and leaves the rest of his castle aboveground to molder in ruin. He becomes paranoid. On the rare occasions he ventures into the outside world, he gathers flowers to place around the tank: offerings of life. He plays soft music for Danny, talks to him as he eats his meager meals, reads to him in the evenings. When it's time for bed, he touches the glass over Danny's sleeping face and whispers, "Good night, little badger," before crawling into a ratty army cot that is now his bed. He falls asleep gazing at the tank, waiting for a miracle, waiting for Danny's eyes to open. Waiting for him to come back.
And should he die before Danny wakes, he prays whatever is left of his soul will take up the watch.

It's been a while since I last drew something of Danny Phantom and this AU.
For those who don't remember or don't know it, this is an AU I made called Broken Family, in which Jasmine survived the Nasty Burger accident, but was left in a coma for two years. Danny never found out about this because Vlad kept it from him, since the chances of Jasmine surviving were very slim.
By the time Jasmine woke up, Dan had already been created and was wandering the Ghost Zone and the Human World.
 . . . . . . . . . .

Today, 17 years ago, "THE ULTIMATE ENEMY" aired on Nick, where Dark Danny made his debut and sadly, his last appearance, leaving a cliffhanger and no resolution after the show ended. This is fitting as we are getting his return in a Graphic Novel.
I do not know what fate awaits him, considering he's my #1 character. It is a feeling of excitement and nervousness not knowing what to expect... But I hope it is one to remember.

I thought about future Danny after the Nasty Burger incident but before he turns into Dark Danny. Mostly about the reveal of his transformation because I realised I could put so much body horror in it, alot of it even metaphorical/spiritual which I find more intriguing than the gory one.
For context:
My version of Dark Danny doesn't involve the stupid fusion with Vlad's ghost half. Furthermore ghost halves physically resemble the mental state of their human, the more mentally stressed the human is the more monsterous the ghost half looks. So Dark Danny will be more of an extension of Danny's grief. But what about his human half?
Well, I thought about the option of just leaving them connected, but what if thats not quiet the case? What if Vlad didnt actually remove the ghost half but instead Danny got more and more poisoned by his feelings taking the form of a crypted thing inside of him, his grief eating away at him until the ghost half broke free on it's own, looking way more monsterous, decaying than ever before.
The fact that most of this would be recounted by an older Vlad would make this even more horrifying as a humans reaction can often carry more emotions than the actual thing.
In short: i might want to make 'the ultimate enemy' even more fucked up

Realized 2 likely reasons for the "Aunt Alicia's Absence In TUE" issue
(Outside of the writers just forgetting she's a useable character after the divorce episode)
All apart of the fact that Vlad is a horrible person. Even with the best intentions to help Danny in mind, he could've seen relying on someone else to help him help Danny as too much of a personal failure and/or embarrassment; and Danny never asking to fire whatever personal reasons. This option hurts so bad but it feels pretty correct as far as character motivations go. I'd say "except for Danny" but insurmountable grief does things to people so if he's seemingly "ooc" that's just the suffering™ really.
Aunt Alicia never existed in Dan's timeline in the first place. Going off of the idea that, despite being similar timelines, they are inherently different. (And Dan just either had a poor concept of that, or it's simply a variable in Clockwork's 5D chess he was playing so he didn't have to kill Dan. Either way) So there very truly was NO ONE for Danny to fall back on. Maddie and Jack being single children in their respective families and no cousins and grandparents to choose from (save for Vlad's barely mentioned potential sister)
The second one has the potential for a kind of funny interaction with Dan if anyone curiously were to ask him why he didn't just live with Alicia.

d'you ever wonder, when Dan was pretending to be Danny and hanging out with Sam and Tucker, if he was ever tempted to just... stay
like just relive his life out as his younger self
to finally have the life with his family and friends that was stolen from him
obviously in the end he chose otherwise but like
was he tempted? or did his humanity burn up far too long ago for him to feel anything
