Their mission keeps them in Marley for months, and the two keep a close eye on Eren. However, what will they do when they run into an old friend? How will Jean react upon seeing them again, and how will he break the news to ____. Will he break the news to her?

You stood on the stairs, watching as Jean walked out the backdoors with his mother clinging to his arm. She looked like she was going to sob right then and there and seeing her in such a state made you want to cry too. You began to think of the life you were going to live…or more so the one you wanted to live. One with no titans, no enemies across the sea. No war that would endanger your friends and family. You wanted to live a life in peace as your children ran around in the fields and called your friends “uncle” and “auntie.” Marco snapped you out of your day dream, extending his hand to you.

“It’s our turn, y/n.” Together, you walked out, the bright sunlight blinding you. Your friends, no, family, came in to view, their smiles wide and eyes filled with tears and of joy. You felt a little embarrassed, if you were being honest. Everyone was watching you, and you had never really dressed up like this in front of them before.

When you got to the alter, you both sat on red velvet chairs and exchanged your vows.

“Jean…?” You whispered, looking at him.

“Y-yeah?”

“Your vows.”

“S-Sorry you just look so pretty right now. I can’t concentrate. Stop looking at me like that –“ Everyone laughed, and Connie called Jean out for being too in love with you. But you thought he was being extremely cute.

“Anyways…” He scratched his neck, “The second I saw you, I asked Marco if it was okay if I married you in the future. You were always looking out for me, even when we were apart, and especially when I hurt you. I hope you know how much I have always loved you. Thank you for wanting to spend the rest of our lives with me,” he spoke softly, his eyes holding such endearment you’ve never before seen.

“Jean, the first time I met you, and the first couple of times after that…I honestly thought you were annoying and I didn’t like you at all.” Jean gasped, offense written on his face (but he wasn’t surprised). “But as I got to know you, I realized that you had such a big heart for those around you. I love that I don’t have to tell you what I’m thinking; you just know, and somehow you’re always there to rescue me when I’ve fallen too far. Thank you for always being with me Jean. I love you.”

Historia pronounced you husband and wife as everyone cheered. Jean slid a gold band on your finger and you placed a watch around his wrist with an engraving on the back which read: I love you, in life and in death.

“I actually have a few words I want to share,” Connie rose from his seat. “I just wanted you guys to know that I’m happy for you. Really, I am. I glad that I got to share this moment with you guys, and am honored to be here, given our circumstances. And I’m sure everyone else feels the same. I also want to say,” he turned to Sasha, “that I haven’t forgotten out bet we made when we were scouts. Sasha, you owe me two pork chops.”

“H-Hey! That’s not fair! You know there’s a meat shortage right now!” Sasha groaned.

“There’s some pigs in the forest,” Connie shrugged. You couldn’t help but laugh and pray that you could cherish this moment forever: the sight of everyone’s carefree smiles and the sound of laugher and music filling your ears.

You spent the rest of the day eating onion soup and munching on croquembouche that Niccolo made that morning. You danced and opened a few gifts, too. Your friends congratulated you, even Levi. He’d actually called you outside while everyone sang and told you that he was happy for you. Something about living life to the fullest, even in the face of death. It was out of character of him, but you appreciated it. He was nowhere near a father figure to you, but you appreciated that you could always count on him to have your back when you needed it most.

By the end of the night, you were all partied out. You and Jean were getting ready for bed after gathering all the things you’d need for tomorrow’s mission to Marley.

“Can I comb your hair?” Jean asked from the bed. You nodded, handing him the brush as you looked out the window from your seat in front of the vanity.

“What are you thinking about right now?” Jean didn’t really have to ask to know. But he thought he should anyway, in case you didn’t want to talk about it.

“I’m glad we got married Jean. I can’t explain how happy I am. But I can’t shake the feeling that we’ve made the wrong choice. All this happiness is bringing me a hope for the future but what if...what if something were to happen to one of us? How am I supposed to live if you’re gone? Or one of our friends? Starting a family in the middle of a war isn’t the brightest idea, and frankly, I’m not sure if it’ll ever end. We also just got Marco back and I don’t want anything to happen to him–“

Jean placed a firm kiss on your lips before pulling away. “You talk too much,” he picked you up and lay you on your bed before lying beside you. “Those are all valid points. Good things to consider and think about, even. But that’s all the more reason why we have to fight. Why we have to win. We’ve all got things to we want to protect,” Jean tucked a strand of hair behind your ear. “I want to start a family when this is all over, and the only way to do that is if we win. We’re going to make it through this. All of us.”

Raven was suddenly aware of Gar moving closer, the two still staring in each other’s eyes. Raven knew what Gar wanted, the same thing he had tried in the theater. Raven glanced down at Gar’s lips before back up to his eyes. At the movie, Raven was able to hide himself pulling back as something exciting happening on screen, but here, it was going to be painfully obvious he was pulling back from their possible first kiss.

“Gar, wait.” He said, seeing Gar’s holographically whiten skin going red. He sat back, making a clear move to put space between them.

“Sorry, i just… I must have misread…” Gar began to spew out more half sentences before getting up and starting to quickly make his way back to the kitchen.

“Stop.” Raven said, getting up fast enough to grab Gar’s hand. Gar turned to look at him, a confused look on his face. “I don’t want my first kiss to be this you,” Raven said, taking the ring off his pinky. “Or this me.” Raven returned to his normal state, reaching down and finding the small necklace Gar wore and unhooked his, seeing his own green skin return as well.

Robin is also super annoying. Which is very fun. Very different from the Dick Grayson Robin in Teen Ttians. And very entertaining.

It makes sense why he’s like this. He’s 13. Have you met a middle school? He also grew up with Batman.

And despite being annoying. No one comments on it. He’s got a strong friendships with Kid Flash. He’s respected and said to be the most experienced. and he’s smart and has some wisdom. He’s just having fun with word play. I’m surprised he doesn’t make puns.

{{ Hello! I saw on a reblogged ask that you'd figured out a timeline between the TTG issues and the TT'03 cartoon? Might I ask if you've ever shared how that timeline goes? Could you point me to it? And if not, I'm still super curious about your thoughts on how that goes! 8O

RIGHT! So.

What I did to figure out the rough timeline was use the TTG! issues that are explicitly set on certain holidays (Valentine's Day, Christmas, Halloween) as reference points for time passage.

We have three Valentine's Days issues (#4, #27, #39), two Christmas issues (#25, #37), one Halloween issue (#13). So right off the bat we have a rough period of about three/four years for the duration of the show and the TTG! issues that explicitly happen afterwards. From there it was a matter of figuring out where certain episodes and issues fell based on context clues--”Revolution“ obviously happens 4th of July and seems to be Starfire’s first, “Date With Destiny“ is most likely April or May since it takes place at Prom and most high schools do prom at the end of the school year, TTG! #27 mentions the True Master so it must be set after “The Quest”, etc. etc. I did wind up having to move a couple of the TTG! issues around since they didn’t fit but only three, #13 (the Halloween issue), #40A (two-story issue, second story recounts from a time when Jinx was still with the HIVE) and #45 (since Cyborg and Sarasim get back together in that issue but were shown already back together in TTG! #39).

Everything else can be presumed to proceed in chronological fashion.

I’ve included my little timeline graphic, plotted with the episodes/issues that have “hard” dates, as in we know exactly when they happen.

And here’s my rough approximation of a couple key significant episodes/issues and the overall seasons, as well as those few shuffled exceptions I mentioned.

Red: Season 1

Yellow: Season 2

Blue: Season 3

Purple: Season 4

Green: Season 5

Orange: “Extra” season, TTG! issues that continue past Season 5

Notes:

“Birthmark” (S4E3) reeks of Dangerous Sixteenth Birthday and also appears to be Raven’s first celebrated with the Titans. I like to headcanon her birthday in October (because spoopy season), October 13th to be exact, because it allows the most time between Year Zero and Year Two for four whole seasons of the show. By necessity this means that Season 2 and Season 3 of Teen Titans happen mostly over the summer of Year One.

Season 3 of Teen Titans being in summer of Year One also fits with “Revolution” being Starfire’s first 4th of July with the Ttians.

As previously mentioned, “Date With Destiny” (S2E6) takes place in prom season, so Season 2 taking up the early part of summer of Year One also fits.

"Date With Destiny” marks the first appearance of the R-cycle, which means Robin is 16 by then, as that’s the earliest one can have a legal motorcycle license. (Though Robin has a motorcycle in TTG! #4 it’s an early design, possibly what he was learning on while waiting to take his official test. It would make sense to celebrate getting his license with building a new custom cycle.)

Robin’s birthday (according to DC Comics’s Robin Annual #4) is “the first day of spring”. So either March 20 or March 21. Leaving room for the earlier episodes of Season 2, this means that Robin was 15 when Slade kidnapped him in the “Apprentice” finale (S1E12). What a bastard.

With Season 1 of Teen Titans ending in March, I straddled the beginning of Season 1 back into Year Zero, with “Sisters” (S1E2) happening on or adjacent to New Year’s because of the fireworks.

“Go!” (S5E10) would have therefore happened sometime between October (Raven’s birthday) and December (start of Season 1), to allow time for the Tower to be built. I stuck it nebulously in early November but I’m flexible on this date.

“Nevermore” (S1E6) would be sometime mid January to late February. I put it earlier to allow time for the other episodes of Season 1. For poetic sake I put “The End” finale (S4E11) exactly one year later.

(Also because Cyborg and Sarah’s relationship is strained from lack of contact in the Valentine’s Day TTG! #27 and it would make the most narrative sense for that issue to take place right after the whole craziness of Season 4.)

“Things Change” (S5E13) has Terra in school, enough time having passed that she’s already taking a test, so I put it at the end of August. Season 5 takes the longest amount of narrative time, consequently, most of Year Two. It could theoretically be longer, pushing “Things Change”, Beast Boy’s birthday in TTG! #28, Cyborg and Sarah’s reconciliation in TTG! #45, and the first clear post-Brotherhood unfreezing issue TTG! #33 all back into October/November, but I thought I’d leave some breathing room between TTG! #33 and the Christmas issue TTG! #37.

Valentine’s Day issue #39 takes place literally right on the heels of Trouble In Tokyo. Literally, Larry is so happy about Robin and Starfire getting together that he decides to steal cupid’s arrows and make other Titans fall in love too. So Trouble in Tokyo is mid February of Year Three.

TTG! #50 is called “Graduation Day” so for poetics sake I stuck it late May, when most school years end. TTG! #51 is also therefore late May since it has Terra still in school. TTG! #55, the end of the comic run, has big summer vibes (a barbecue party at Dayton Manor is twice mentioned) so could be anywhere in June/July.

Various Titans we met in “Winner Take All” (Speedy, Wildebeest, Hot Spot) make appearances starting from TTG! #14. Speedy was the first, and his appearance is very much per-assignment to Titans East. So I placed TTG! #14 at the beginning of when Season 3 would start.

I just kind of stuck TTG! #40A in there because it’s after “Mother Mae-Eye” (See-More and Private Hive are on the HIVE Five) and feels like a breather moment between Season 4 and Season 5.

(Whew!)

And there you have it, my rough approximation of the Teen Titans timeline.

I was so excited to hear you mention Teen Ttians on your latest podcast episode! It was my #1 show as a kid, and I still love it dearly. Just wanted to say that I'd love if you did an episode of Cartoon Collage for it. Especially interested to hear your thoughts on its approach to female characters, friendships, vulnerability, and more mature themes (often tackled through allegory). It has stood the test of time in many ways. Anyway, I'll stop gushing now lol. Keep up the good work!

Thank you!! I only ever watched the show as an adult (my partner watched it as a kid, so they revisited while I saw it for the first time around last year) and I had a really fun time! It’s a fantastic cartoon and I really adored all the main characters / had a fun time. Also very cool to see the shorter story arcs pre-ATLA before longer more serialized ones were allowed to be more common.

I’m also weak for superhero found families living in a tower together (the animated, not the marvel kind) and honestly I think that’s the show’s strongest point, and I love found family so so freaking much

Cyborg was always my favourite character, and my favourite ships were BBTerra, RobStar, and Jinx/Kid Flash by far!
