For Trek Talks:
@thymejot: What do you think a Janeway and Sisko crossover episode would look like? Would it be before Voyager and the Dominion war or during/after? Though the idea of time travel shenanigans could be fun.
Ooh. I think that would be hardcore. I think they're the most hardcore Starfleet officers of their generation. They're both cut from the same cloth.
I think this might happen during the Dominion War-- which is dramatically a tantalizing prospect for me but more likely this happens post-Dominion War after Sisko returns from wherever he is.
Unfortunately, for Janeway and her luck what kicks this off is time travel.
I feel like Time looked at Janeway and said became aware she was due to be bothered. And because the Bajoran Prophets/Wormhole aliens operate out of time, tosses Janeway directly into their path.
And its the same time the Prophets has a task for Sisko and he's bewildered to find Captain Janeway in the same place/time he is.
But he corrects himself and realizes Janeway is now Vice-Admiral Janeway.
Anyway, whoever they are up against ends up crossing paths with Sisko and Janeway.
Picard is virtually a walk in the park next to these two.
(They're possibly both thrown into the 32nd Century, much to the chagrin of Admiral Vance. For once, he would love it if time-displaced people would stop falling into his lap. And then it turns out Vance is a descendant of Janeway-- and it makes sense why time-displaced people kept falling into his purview).
TLDR both Janeway and Sisko fix whatever issue and as reward, they're returned to their time. Including Sisko, years earlier than when Janeway is, he pops up back again wherever Vice Admiral Janeway is.
It turned out that he'd been in Bajor with his family the whole time but didn't want to interfere with the timeline. Sisko and Janeway become very good friends!

why can’t star trek fans realize that mccoy and spock speak a compatible language mentally in the same regard that mccoy and kirk speak emotionally? their dialects just combat each other a bit, is all. for both relationships.

Tumblr media
for reference jim’s room has some photos and a plant so we can surmise this is uniquely a spock being a dramatic weirdo thing

Look I just think that if you’ve ever loved Star Trek, Like really loved it (not just had a passing interest or casually consumed it) then it’s gonna be a part of you forever. It injects a little whimsy in you. A little thoughtfulness and curiosity and wonder. I’ll watch Star Trek and every time I do I feel like a little kid staring up at the stars holding onto the grass. I’ll watch Star Trek and every time I’m sitting out sharing a sweater with my friend as we talk about Spock and the sun starts to set. I’ll watch Star Trek and it’s the same feeling of calm awe that I get when I sit in the aquarium.
Aliens aside it’s about humanity. It’s always about humanity and trying to understand despite it all (which I think is a core tenet of humanity). And if that compels you then it’s going to stay with you. No matter if the packaging is a bit silly. Maybe even because the packaging is silly.
Also once you love Spock I don’t think you can stop

can’t shake the idea of amanda making the kids spend a harvest season on uncle trip’s and aunt t’pol’s pear farm in washington. this is basically a “the simple life” au where sybok forms a cult of personality, michael frees all the frogs from a local high school, and spock gets a crush. classic boy meets world stuff. the biggest problem with tos’ episodic format is that the episode usually ends pretty quickly after the conflict resolves and then they never really talk about it again - no matter how intense or harrowing it was
which means that we don’t get to actually *see* the interpersonal fallout of bones being diagnosed with and cured from a previously-incurable terminal illness (that he didn’t even want to tell jim and spock he had), and then just four episodes later drugging them so that he can go be tortured (and likely die) instead of spock, and so jim doesn’t have to make the choice between them.
did they talk about it? beyond just a standard debrief and a “never fucking do that again bones i swear to god i mean it this time”? did they make it the captains’ quarters for the debrief, only for mccoy to be pulled into a crushing, trembling hug as soon as the door shut while jim tried to assure himself that bones was still here, was still breathing? spock hovering nearby - a hand gently coming to rest on his shoulder?
why didn’t mccoy want to tell them about the xenopolycythemia, anyways? to try and hold onto a few more normal-ish months before every time they looked at him their eyes would be filled with grief - mourning a man they hadn’t yet lost? the same reason he ran away; to spare them what he went through with his father?
only for him to immediately turn around and throw himself back to the wolves to (almost) die right in front of them anyways
i don’t really know how they handled it. whether they talked about it and attempted to soothe the hurt, or just resolutely tried to bottle it up.
but i do know this: spock eventually came back from gol because jim simply (though accidentally) called out for him in a moment of need. bones only came back because jim personally drafted him back into starfleet

there's this borderline hysterical laugh garak breaks into a couple of times during the early seasons that is so special to me. like. this man. this man is so high (constantly) and probably drunk (frequently) and he's at all times teetering on the very brink of despair that only pure spite, immense stubbornness, and getting to gaze at julian bashir's smiling face across the lunch table once a week is holding him back from tipping over. and then he has to deal with people like skrain dukat and gul toran on top of that and you can practically hear the cracks forming as he's barely holding on to whatever remains of his sanity by the skin of his teeth

people greatly under-appreciate mccoy’s presence in tos and his relationship with Kirk and Spock. Like of course because people watch trek spirk brained which is cool and all but then everyone else is simplified into an accessory. Which also includes McCoy even though he’s a crucial part of the triumvirate and Spock and Kirk would both be missing something essential without him. I could write an essay on how trek fans disrespect McCoy but what really gets me are the people who completely miss the intimacy between him and spock. Spock, using the last of his oxygen to quip, “tell doctor McCoy that he should have wished me luck.” That’s an I love you in two ways. It’s an I love you in Vulcan, and it’s also an I love you in Spones because Spock knows damn well that McCoy will be pissed for the rest of his life that Spock got the last word in and then immediately died afterwards.

Starfleet Therapist: So what do we do when our ex won't speak to us
Kirk: Draft them out of retirement back into military service under my command
Starfleet therapist: nO
(this is a joke, obviously. Kirk would never go to therapy)
