It has taken me a long time to be able to say I am gay. I could not even say it to myself. @shinjiroatae1126: July 26th, 2023 was a big day for me. I finally gathered the courage to come out to the public as a gay man. I am grateful to have received media coverage from multiple platforms both within Japan and overseas.
To be honest, I was extremely anxious before all of this happened. However, I've been pleasantly surprised to discover the overwhelming amount of positive feedback pouring in from both my fans and people who have come across the news about me. It's heartwarming to see that my story is being acknowledged from all around the world, and this brings me immense joy. Although they may be baby steps, I sense that this world is gradually moving into the light. Yesterday, I made an announcement about resuming my career as an artist. I also released a new song titled “Into The Light”. The music video for the song is also on YouTube now. This song is packed with the emotions and thoughts leading up to this point, including my decision to come out. Living with anxieties and struggles is not limited to just LGBTQ+ individuals. I hope this song can be a source of encouragement for anyone carrying such emotions. I've aimed for it to become a song that can uplift those with similar feelings. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Pride House Tokyo, Japan’s first permanent LGBTQ+ center, and ReBit, an organization providing resources and support for LGBTQ+ youth. I hope this song will touch many hearts.🙏🌈

At first, there was total silence. Then, there were shrieks, wild applause, weeping and shouts of “I love you!”
Fans of Shinjiro Atae, a J-pop idol who has been on a nearly two-year performance hiatus, had come to hear him talk about “the challenge of my life.” Standing onstage in a dark auditorium in front of 2,000 fans in central Tokyo on Wednesday night, he revealed something he has kept hidden for most of his life: He is gay.
“I respect you and believe you deserve to hear this directly from me,” he said, reading from a letter he had prepared. “For years, I struggled to accept a part of myself. But now, after all I have been through, I finally have the courage to open up to you about something. I am a gay man.”
Such an announcement is extremely unusual in conservative Japan, the only G7 country that has not legalized same-sex unions. Earlier this summer, the Japanese Parliament passed an L.G.B.T.Q rights bill but it had been watered down by the political right, stating that there “should be no unfair discrimination” against gay and transgender people.
In making a public declaration, the 34-year-old Mr. Atae, who spent two decades performing with AAA, a hit Japanese pop group, before embarking on a solo career, said he wanted his fans to know his true self. He also hopes to comfort those who might be grappling with anxieties about their sexuality.
“I don’t want people to struggle like me,” he said.
AAA debuted in 2005, with Mr. Atae, the youngest member, forgoing high school. He performed mostly as a dancer, and began appearing in TV series and movies.
His sexuality perplexed him. “It was a time when on TV, comedians would say two men kissing was gross,” he said. If anyone asked if he had a girlfriend, he just said he was too busy working.
Activists said they could not recall an instance when a Japanese pop star of his stature had publicly declared they were gay, because of anxieties about losing fans or sponsors.
“I think he has decided to come out in order to change Japan,” said Gon Matsunaka, a director and adviser to Pride House Tokyo, a support center for the gay and transgender community.
The decision to open up about his sexuality, he said, evolved over seven years of living in Los Angeles, where he saw how freely gay couples could show affection in public and built an extensive support network.
“Everyone was so open,” he said. “People would talk about their vulnerabilities. In Japan, people think it’s best not to talk about those things.”
Mr. Atae’s decision, he said, was not political.  All he wanted, he said, was to “normalize” being gay. Coming out, he knew, would likely draw criticism. “Whatever you do, there will be haters,” he said. “I can only focus on the people I might be helping.”

Japanese Tales Fans Vote Their Favorite Tales Games In Recent Survey
Japanese website Net Lab has made another Tales related survey for fans to vote; the topic this time is favorite Tales games. The poll ran from June 27, 2023 to July 4, 2023 and has a total of 10, 344 votes overall.
Before I reveal the results, there are three things I want to let you know:
This is a Japan-only poll because the admins did not want overseas fans to vote due to possible illegal voting.
Fans can vote up to three games.
Please do not be vocal about the games/titles you hate or don’t particularly; if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.

Okay like if you agree, but….
here are 3 trends that I wish the fantasy genre would take a break from for a little while.
*Quick disclosure, this isn’t meant to feel overly negative, I mostly want to hear other people’s opinions on these trends and others!*
Hungry Games-esque “a competition with deadly stakes” plot lines. On the one hand, I get it, because like the rest of the world, I was totally enthralled by this premise when it was first introduced in the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale and later, the Hunger Games. However, at this point the idea of the main character entering into a deadly competition feels a little tired and predictable, and unlike Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, the many of the latest iterations lack the searing social commentary which made the premise so compelling. Notable Examples: Serpent and the Wings of Night, Lightlark, The Jasad Heir
Motherfucking EPIGRAPHS. You know, that line or paragraph of text which proceeds every chapter. In the fantasy genre, often it is an except from a historical or religious text from the world in which the book is set. And here’s the thing—it’s not that I hate epigraphs, or that I don’t understand their purpose. They can be an elegant way to add context to the story without burdening the main narrative with too much exposition, and they can also help the created world to feel more “lived in”. Having said that, I feel like they are starting to get way overused, and for me, they’ve gone from feeling like a cool way for the author to provide context and add meta commentary to their story to serving as a slightly less clunky vehicle of info-dumping. Like…am I supposed to be remembering the characters of this lore which I only ever hear about through these epigraphs, because I can assure you, I am not. In other instances, they can feel like an authors lack of faith in the reader, as if they are afraid we might miss the point if they don’t include an unsubtle cue as to where we ought to focus our attention at the start of every chapter. I respect the role epigraphs have played in fantasy classics like Dune and Wheel of Time, but I currently feel the number of novels employing them has become fatiguing, and I hope the trend of including them decreases, at least in the short-term. Notable examples: Fourth Wing (Empyrean Series, Swordcatcher, Furyborn (Empirium series)
A [Blank] of [Blank] and [Blank] Not much to say here other than…when are romantasy authors going to let this go?? 😮‍💨😮‍💨 While you could argue the true genesis of this title naming convention could be GRRM’s A Song of Ice of Fire, I think we can all agree that—for better or worse—it was the popularity of ACOTAR that sent this title style into the stratosphere, and at this point, it has become ubiquitous to the point of literal disorientation. To me there is nothing inherently wrong with this title style (though I would also argue there is nothing particularly gripping about it, at least not enough to warrant a trend of this size) but it basically renders all of these books—which are already of a similar vibe and style—virtually indistinguishable. As a reader on the hunt for new books to scratch that romantasy itch, it’s nearly impossible to tell the dozens of titles bearing this title apart, which means I have no sense which which ones I’ve read, which I haven’t, which caught my interest, which I started and didn’t care for, etc. I have idea how much of this is a consequence of publishers trying to capitalize on a known entity in order to make the most money and how much is just the fact that naming a book is really fucking hard, but good lord, what is it gonna take to stop this madness? Notable examples: quite literally too many to name

Random update on the transcription of the Eternal Diva novel, aka probably the one that most people don't even care about that much to begin with
(though you should, I haven't translated it yet but I spotted a few words here and there that caught my attention such as Luke mentioning Misthallery multiple times. Also there is in the introduction a novel-exclusive scene with Janice in it, just fyi.)
To those who didn't know, most of my free time as of lately has been put into the transcription/translation website I have dedicated to the Japan-exclusive Layton content that we never got to see, and more specifically I have been transcribing the Eternal Diva novel. Because yes, now you know, Eternal Diva was adapted into a novel and none of us non-Japanese fans got to read it. And boy this novel is going to drive me insane because I have been working on it for literal weeks by now.
In terms of progress, I have reached the part of the story in which Puzzle 004 is about to start, aka right after the end of the "Layton McGuffinned a helicopter that thinks it's a grasshopper" part. I have transcribed up to page 119 (+ the ending is already transcribed and translated because past me felt like it), and there are now 74 blank pages left for me to fill. And then the translation will come, too. I am totally looking forward to it. Can you feel the enthusiasm in my exciting punctuation.
This is the shortest novel of the list (200 pages if I count the blank ones), and this is the only novel that has furigana everywhere (aka the only one of the four I can actually read somewhat properly). Yippeeeee
Anyway if you want to take a look even though only the beginning and the end are translated for the time being:

The reason why I'm going through the entire transcription first and that the full translation will only come afterwards is because, at least in my opinion if I were to view this as a reader instead of as the person uploading the content, this means that you guys get to know the story faster than if I progressed through both the transcription and translation at the same time.
After all, let's see it like this: sure, you can't read Japanese, and for the most part, neither can I. But since it's been transcribed, it means that you can easily copy-paste the Japanese text into DeepL, or Google Translate, or any translator of your choice. Sure, it's more work for you and if you are of the lazy kind you will still have to wait the same amount of time regardless (not saying it in a derogatory way), but at least it gives the choice for the ones who want the whole story to get it somewhat faster.
I don't speak Japanese, and I am not translating things as I go, so I have only a vague understanding of what is going on in the novel (and obviously, the fact that I know the plot of the movie is a huge help). But I can already tell you this much:
We get the lyrics for the ending's song, obviously. This is part of what has been translated so far.
The whole novel is not divided into chapters, but rather into smaller scenes/sections (however you want to call it). Some are narrated by Luke, some others are narrated by Janice (and/or Melina, I guess it depends on the context). Just like the three main novels you may be slightly more familiar with, the narration is in first person.
Since the only narrators who showed up so far are Luke and Janice/Melina, I don't think the scenes from Emmy's POV will be included (aka the one in which she questions Nina's parents, the one in which she is with Schrader, and the one in which she finds and rescues Grosky in the middle of the ocean). Perhaps they are going to appear later in the novel, but I highly doubt it for a number of reasons (number of pages in each section, and titles of said sections).
The novel starts with an exclusive scene under the POV of Janice. It takes place three years after the case, and she is just finished singing for the last rehearsal before the opera she will play in the day after — it is The Eternal Kingdom, which she has not sung in three years, and the next day will be the second time ever this opera will be sung in a theatre with a public. Of course, no eternal life game planned this time. Janice also gets a letter of encouragement from Whistler, which is pretty sweet.
Unless I missed it and it somehow happens in the part I did not yet translate, the intro of the movie in which Luke and Layton solve the case where Don Paolo decided to mess with the bells of Big Ben is not at all mentioned in the novel. Luke in the novel doesn't give the introduction-narration speech that he does in the movie, we jump straight into the scene in which he is shown in Layton's office pretending to be pointing at culprits (and we get a fun little scene showing what led up to him doing it). Go read it, it is translated, and I do not want to spoil for you the opportunity to read Luke being a dork all over again.
We switch to the flashback telling the actual events, and this is the part that has no translation yet. I won't give many details as a result since I don't know the things for sure myself, but as I said earlier, I saw a few words that I recognised here and there: notably, Luke mentions Misthallery on at least two occasions. If memory serves, one of them is when Grosky shows up to "arrest" the puppet, and I think Luke went on a small tangent to give a small summary of the events of Last Specter (aka how he met Grosky), and also mentions Descole (though he does not give his name, since I'm pretty sure that he didn't hear the words "My name is Jean Descole" at the time, and only learned that precisely upon meeting him again in ED). On another time he mentions it, from what I vaguely understood he may be making a reference to Naiya, Janice/Melina's friend who can be found in Misthallery and who is also a singer (she's the NPC who is meant to represent the singer of Paxmaveiti, just like Yuming is meant to represent the singer of Mysterious Flower in Miracle Mask). Pretty inconsequential, but it's always fun to have continuity nods and references to the actual plot of other stories.
Finally, back to three years later, we get an epilogue narrated by Luke which is the exact same scene as the movie: Layton and Luke are listening to Janice's opera, and at some point Janice shows up to say hi. Luke also mentions what happened to the rest of the participants after the case throughout those three years; most are just what we see from the credits, but the novel still gives a few more details in some cases:
By the time of the original trilogy, Amelia is studying abroad at a foreign university, and she recently sent a letter to Layton and Luke, saying that she is grateful even after three years.
Luke is friends with Nina, who comes by at Gressenheller every now and then, and he even considers her a rival of sorts due to Nina having a good memory and studying well. (also what the heck Luke why are you talking about getting to college and how you're worried that she may be admitted to college before you do, you're THIRTEEN)
Celia Raidley and Pierre Starbuck got married "just the other day" (yes, the ship is now officially confirmed beyond just the one image from the movie credits) and the tabloids are going wild over it.
Luke is reading Annie Dretche's latest mystery novel, and he can't put it down. Annie apparently told him that she has been writing faster so that Bargland (the guy who said he did not have much time left due to an illness) can read them at the hospital. Seems like "six months" turned into three years after all, good for him!
Anyway, that's all I have to say for now, I hope you enjoyed the rambling. I hope this will reach some fans of the movie who would be excited to get a few more details!

Young Bad Education (Dayoo): I fell in love with Mizusawa’s eyes on the cover and bought the volume in Japanese years ago without an ounce of idea what the story was about. No regrets. Young Bad Education and its continuation Young Good Boyfriend will feed your soul. You can read it on Manga Planet (Futekiya).
Hitorijime My Hero (Memeco Arii): This title is a classic so you might have already seen it but just in case. Hitorijime My Hero has an anime adaptation as well (I’m anime-only) and the manga has a spin-off with the side couple as far as I know. The height difference is less pronounced here but if you’re like me and you love delinquents as well, this will be your jam.
The Trees in Spring (Nakaoka Naka): I’m kind of cheating but I’ll do anything to recommend this title! MCs here are a teacher and student, but the teacher isn’t teaching the student, they meet each other in a different way. I have reviewed this title before and take any chance I can get to recommend it, so there you go!

Warbler, Sing of Spring (Nago Nayuta): I felt like they don’t have height difference (and checked the first chapter again) but the MCs are always drawn in weird angles so I’m not sure. Another title with the delinquent sprinkled on top. Really enjoyed reading this, Nago Nayuta’s works have a cuteness I like and the uke in Warbler is kind of unhinged xD Love him!
The Neighbor I Desire (Makoto): This one started off a bit weird for me but I can assure you it’s super cute! I have written a review before so if you want more details, here you go.
The Good Teacher (Eeej): Another title I reviewed before. It’s pretty, fun but short and while the plot is not this series’ strongest point, I think it’s worth giving a shot.

Age gap + height difference
Love for Sale (Dal Hyeon-ji): It’s official, you guys. I will literally disintegrate if I don’t recommend Love for Sale, the doctor said it not me. But honestly, do yourself a solid one and read it if you still haven’t. The pinnacle of ultimate goodness. I wrote on LfS before but since the post contaşns spoilers and is more about sugar dating than a review, I’ll spare you the link. On Lezhin.
Love Me Doctor (ANA): Another series I constantly recommended on Twitter and got a couple of unassuming, kind-hesrted people to read it with me as well. Focuses on a university student and a urology doctor he had tovisit for his ED. If you’re comfortable reading a title where a doctor kind of uses his position to get to know a patient and stepping over boundaries, please give it a chance! TOTALLY worth the time. On Lezhin.
On or Off (A1): Can’t say I understood the drama with the artist and the series being wrapped up rather quickly, but I read this popular webtoon with joy! Not as big of a fan as the rest of the BL fans but if youdig these two tropes I think it’s worth checking out. On Tappytoon, but I think TOKYOPOP has released it in print.
Metro (Chika Hongo): This is more of a dramatic title, where a high school student is being touched regularly by the same man on the train and he likes it, until one day he follows him home upon being invited. If you prefer a story that’s laced with trauma and flawed characters, this is for you! On Manga Planet.
Pound Cake on a Sunday (Amida Shizuku): Man this series is SUPER funny that I had to reread today! A father and son lives alone after the mother’s passing and one day, out of the blue, the father starts complimenting the new transfer to the company about how he’s so beautiful or saying how shiny his hair is. Is his father gay? Did he finally lose it? Read and find out! Very different from your usual BL, worth your time!
Bonus - I’m a Dom and I Want You To Stroke My Head (KINACO): Has dom/sub universe (a big fan) height difference as well, but it’s a teacher x teacher pairing.

Hi! I've only watched the anime for Tsurune and I LOVED the first two seasons but after reading some of your Tsurune posts it got me curious. How different is the anime adaption from the source material? It sounds like an entirely different thing! I really liked the first season, but apparently it was a disaster? In what ways, if you don't mind me asking? Should I read the novels instead? I'm sorry for so many questions or if you've answered these already

Oh, holy shit.
This is not the kind of ask I was expecting to get in the year of our lord 2024.
I’ll start by saying that you’re totally right. It sounds like an entirely different thing because the original work and the anime adaptation are, in fact, almost entirely different from each other. If you ever look for reviews of volume 1 on Japanese sites, the comment you’ll see the most from people who also watched the anime is “it’s so different from the novel that it might be best to just view the two as separate stories”. If I had to estimate how much of the novels was actually included into the animation, I would say 5% to 10%. I’m being pretty generous here.
You’re also right about the first season being a disaster. I remember that when I first watched the first episode of S1, by the moment that the series title came up, I immediately thought to myself, “This won’t sell well. 3k DVD copies, give or take”. And turns out I was wrong. It actually sold around 2.7k, which is even worse than what I had predicted. It did so infamously bad that many fans were worried about the second season before it came out, and some people were being rather foul-mouthed about it, which was a shock for me because you don’t usually see Japanese fans not following fandom etiquette. However, there was much more effort put into S2 than S1, thankfully. There’s also the whole thing with the arson attack, which pulled in people’s interest and support for the series. Overall, it did fairly well, I believe. I would never say that S2 does the novel any justice, but it was light years better than S1. That’s something everyone agrees to, even those who enjoyed S1.
Still, though. Even with S2 being far more successful than S1, that’s technically not so big of a deal, considering S1’s tragic underperformance. The series is known here in Japan mostly because of its association with the arson, but not many people are really into it. I would say that it has a niche audience consisting of 1) people who were already fans of KyoAni to begin with, 2) novel readers and 3) people who practice Japanese archery. As for the overseas audience… barely anyone has ever even heard of Tsurune, be it the anime or the novels. Many people who do know the anime have dropped it by S1, and the reason I see being pointed out the most is that it was “boring as hell”.
Other than this, I’ve noticed something in common when reading comments on S2 from Japanese Twitter. One thing people say a lot (and I do mean a lot) is that they didn’t like S1, but after watching S2, they were able to see that “KyoAni was, in fact, taking this franchise seriously”, so they gave it a second chance. This is meant as a compliment, but although it’s not backhanded per se, it’s kind of underhanded. I mean, who wants to be told, “Thank God you got your shit together this time around”? It’s good that S2 changed people’s opinions on the series, but the fact that it had to be changed speaks volumes about what people thought of S1.
Now, as to whether you should just read the novels, I would say yes. It’s literally the only way to know what Tsurune is truly about. But I have to warn you that, if you loved the anime, you might have to prepare yourself to see the things you loved about it either not being in the novel or taking a completely different turn in it. If you’re able to handle that, then by all means, go ahead and give the source material a try. It’s honestly one of the most unique novels I’ve ever read, and I’ve read just about every light novel out there. The depictions of Japanese archery and Zen go way deeper and you’ll learn much more about the characters, so I’m sure you’ll have a fun time!

Fire Emblem - Three Houses - A Dumb Summary
I was challenged to summarize 3H. I know very little about the game. You've been warned!
Once upon a time there was this guy Billy. Or this girl Billie. Actually you get to pick so we’ll just pick one now… wait and there are also several stories to pick. Shoot. Well we’ll just have to have several summaries then, won’t we? Nyeh!
Story One - Azure… Something
Once upon a time there was this girl Billie who taught battle strategy or something at the Mach 10 Monastery. She was very confusing to everyone, ‘cause she was the same age as the students but also teaching them, but also not the same age and like a super old goddess or dragon or something and also might’ve been possessed by the demigod descendent of Sothe and Yune? Look I don’t know and neither do you. Anyway, so she’s teaching and they’ve got this system like Hogwarts where everybody picks a sports mascot to rally behind, and the teachers also get to pick favorites. She picks Gryffindor because she has a major crush on this dude in the house who wants to KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. Who are “them”, you ask? Yes. It’s a wonder anybody survived going to school with him okay? Super bloodthirsty dude. Dunno why either, something to do with working for the Holy Faerghan Empire and the Spanish Inquisition I think? And also he talks to ghosts? Yeah that sounds right. Eventually somebody got annoyed with his serial slaughtering because at some point he lost an eye, but we’ll get to that later.
Mr. Inquisitor’s classmates (who will probably never show their faces in this story again) consist of a bottle of Felix Felicis, Ash from Pokemon, Miklan’s Brother, a car, the mailwoman from Rune Factory Frontier, and a d-dude (people always stutter when they talk about him so his title is canonically “d-dude”).
There are also some other teachers, but most of them are boring. Except of course for Mole Lady, and the Phantom of the Opera who’s trained to become a ninja.
So Billie taught the Inquisitor and his cronies all there is to know about combat and strategy and whatnot, until one day when she decided to go on a years-long vacation to “find herself” or something. Everything blew up without Billie there to stop it! But you play as Billie so it all just kinda happens without you and she comes back like “Oh crud what’d I miss?” and she just joins in the war that’s started, on the side of her teacher’s pets of course because they’re her most favoritest and are absolutely in the right in this war, right? Turns out they’re fighting against the other two houses, who are also fighting each other. It’s just a total mess. Also there’s this group of sewer rats who come out of the gutter and say they’re the totally legit and super awesome FOURTH HOUSE DUN DUN DUN! Led by somebody named Japanese Lesbian even though he’s a dude? Whatever, anyway he says they want to join Billie’s side because… I dunno she’s cool I guess? So off they go to fight everybody else, and of course, to KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! Especially the leader of Ravenclaw, Edelwiess, because she’s definitely a heretic who wants to be a normal Fire Emblem lord and fight the church and defeat god like everybody else. Ew! The horror! She’s definitely evil! So um… yeah that’s basically what they do I guess? Just whoop up on everybody and take over the continent? Oh and also they make a detour to Miklan’s Brother’s Brother’s house and smite him in particular because nobody likes him. He liked to be mean to his brother when they were little because his brother had a fancy hat or something that meant he’d get to be king after their father? I think? Or something? Anyway Miklan’s Brother’s Brother was super jealous of the fancy hat and made sure it was everybody’s problem so they all went to his house to smite him before continuing on their journey to KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. Which they did. Then if you play your cards right Billie marries the Inquisitor and they live murderously ever after! Yay!
Story Two - Crimson Flour (What the heck is that made of? Red 40? Ew!)
Billy decided to teach Ravenclaw because he thinks their albino leader Edelwiess is cute, but then he discovers that she has this menacing bodyguard who never eats, never sleeps, and follows her everywhere, and he thinks “ya know what, I should’ve picked another house”, but then it’s too late. Ravenclaw consists of Edelwiess, Scary Hubert, a nerd, a ghost, Sonic’s mom, a modern girl cameoing, and Cool Fiona.
So anyway, like Billie, he teaches the kiddos and then leaves for a well-undeserved vacation while the war starts. When he comes back, he’s like “well obviously my faves are the good guys” so he joins the Ravenclaws on their quest to defy the Holy Faerghan Empire and the Church of Kronos’ Wife and to slay god or something. This means they also run afoul of Mr. Inquisitor, but they slay him too and put an end to his bloodbath… while they go off and do basically the same thing I think? Starting to think there are no good guys actually. Oh dear. Anyway at one point things get so evil and wrong that Billy gets to choose whether to stick with Edelwiess or to backstab her. If he sticks with her, they smite their foes and probably live happily ever after (but they don’t get married because Hubert is too scary and Billy doesn’t want to get poisoned on a date). If he betrays her, I have no idea. All I know is that the story turns into Story Three - White… Fluffy Clouds… or something…. And he probably teams up with the aforementioned sewer rats, because they think he’s cool. I’m sure he wins but how in the world does he defeat Hubert? That man is an all-powerful menace. Somebody fill me in? Haha
Story Four - Fear the Deer
Billie joins Hufflepuff, mostly because she sees it’s led by fellow Star Wars enthusiast Claude von Beethoven. He’s so committed to the bit that he even has a little padawan braid and everything! So cool! Anyway so she teaches him and his buddies: a dude obsessed with roses, an artist self-insert, a Micaiah wannabe, Amy Rose with an axe, and some girl who’s obsessed with The Witcher. They’re all a bunch of nerds and we love them for it. I have no idea what these guys want when the war breaks out - they’re probably just excited to be in a Fire Emblem game honestly! - but obviously, since Billie’s with them in this version of the story, those crazy sewer rats join them and they mop the floor with everybody else and, uh, they live happily ever after I guess! Except for Miklan of course. ;P
There’s also Story Five - Whiskered Eggplant, but we’re not getting into that today ;) XD

Translator’s note: I honestly felt so bad for Yuma throughout most of this CD. The poor guy was so serious and genuine about the competition, but he’s over there with barely any fish biting while the two guys just fucking around are getting one after the other. Sometimes it’d be like that in life though. The Magic Goldfish showing up was so random though, but tokuten CDs are known for being quite chaotic and unpredictable, so I can’t complain.

Kino: I don’t even see any ripples in the water. I guess these fish aren’t particularly fond of sweets.

Kino: Woah there, seems like now isn’t the time to be distracted by some guy trying to pray to the God of all Goldfish. I suppose it’s time for the final spurt to victory!
Laito: I shall do that too~ Actually, fishing is surprisingly easy, don’t you think? 
Yuma: Ya bastards…Ya really think ya can just say whatever ya want, huh? Hah! Just watch me! The true battle starts now!
*Rustle rustle* 
Laito: Oh~? What are you going to use as bait next? A rice cake filled with red bean paste, perhaps? 
Yuma: Hell nah! I’m bringin’ out the big guns this time! Imma throw in Sugar-chan! This one’s special, straight from the Demon World as well so it should be super effective!

Yuma: Oh come on…Why won’t any of these fuckers bite!? 
Laito: You know…Maybe it doesn’t work on regular animals because it’s a product from the Demon World? 
Kino: I mean…using a sugar cube as bait is just bad taste, don’t you think? 
Yuma: Why didn’t ya stop me then if ya knew that!? I totally wasted it now!!
Kino: Ahー Sorry, my bad. I didn’t think you were that stupid, you wouldn’t even be able to figure out such an obvious thing. 
Yuma: Fuck…My Sugar-chan…

Laito: Huh? I think I saw a shadow in the water just now?

Kino: I think you’re right. But…It didn’t look tiny like a goldfish…
*SPLASH*
Yuma: O-Oi…What was that huge, black fin just now…? It was two meters long, at least.
Laito: I don’t know but…Since this place is called ‘Goldfish Paradise’, it must be a goldfish as well, right…? 
Kino: Haah!? No way there’s a goldfish so ridiculously big! It has to be a mistake of some sort.
*Creaak* 
Laito: Hey! Something’s tugging strongly onto Yuma’s rod! Could it be that he has that monstrous Goldfish from earlier on the hook!? 
Kino: I’m pretty sure he does. Since it went for the sugar cube from the Demon World…Perhaps it’s a goldfish native to that world as well? 
Yuma: Haah!? And what is that monster doin’ inside this run-down-the-mill fishin’ pond!? Ugh…
Laito: Don’t tell me…Could this place be connected to the Demon World somehow? …Anyway, now that you’ve got it on the hook, you better do something about it!
Yuma tries to reel in the goldfish. 
Yuma: That’s…easier than said…It’s seriously strong…I’m pretty sure I’ll end up in the water with it if I dare loosen my grip for even a split second…!
Kino: Hah…? I mean, can’t you hurry up and either reel it in or let it pull you in instead. That’ll fix the problem, right?
Yuma: Ugh…What do you mean…let it pull me in…!? We’re talkin’ ‘bout a freakin’ monster over here!
Laito: I doubt one sugar cube is enough to satisfy something of such a size! But if it gobbles you up whole, it might just still its hunger for now!
Yuma: Fuck off…! But seriously, it’s no joke how strong this thing is! Damnit…Oi! Help me out!!
Kino: Haah…?
Yuma: I can’t do this on my own, but if we combine our forces, we might just be able to reel it in! Now quit yappin’ and grab hold of my fishin’ rod! 
Laito: Eeh!? Ah, god, guess I have no other choice!
Kino: And why exactly should I get close to this sweaty, smelly guy? I can’t believe this. 
*Rustle* 
Yuma: ‘Kay, don’t let go now, got it? We’ll pull at the count of three! Three, two…one!!
They start pulling the fish in. 
Laito, Yuma & Kino: Ughーー!
*Creaaak* 
Yuma: We’ve almost got him! Give it everythin’ you’ve got, fuckers! Aaaahーーー!
*SPLASH*
*Boing* 
Yuma: Uwah…What’s this enormous, disgustin’ thing? I guess it’s a creature from the Demon World after all…? 
Laito: I think it’s about as big as our entire manor? Also…Its stench is out of this world… (hurls) 
Kino: I believe this could be a…a Magic Goldfish like the ones at Rotigenberg. 
Yuma: Ya know ‘bout these!?
Kino: They’re infamous in the Demon World for causing disaster. Never heard of them? You’ll often see them at goldfish scooping games at festivals and such. …The only downside to them is that they have a huge appetite, causing them to quickly grow incredibly large. 
Laito: Heeh…Well, if they only grow large without much more, I guess we can just let it do its thing? 
Yuma: Yeah.
Kino: Ah, right. I forgot to mention but…Its favorite food is humans. 
Yuma: Ah…? …Which means… ーー !! This is bad…!!
The fish starts cracking its teeth. 
Laito: Uwah…This guy is ready to chow down…What are we going to do about this? 
The people in the shop start freaking out.
Yuma: Oi! Doesn’t it have a weakness or somethin’...!? 
Kino: Let me think…It’s highly resistant to fire and hitting it from the outside won’t have much effect either.
Yuma: Which means we gotta hit from the inside, huh? …Oi, Mr. Fedora! Go and get yerself swallowed by it!
Laito: Eh!? Why me!? No way! Besides, I’m not a human, so it won’t eat me, will it? 
Kino: Then why not randomly pick one of those humans running around over there to feed it? 
Yuma: You can’t do that! The competition will get canceled! 
Laito: Eh!? You still haven’t given up on taking that prize money home!? 
Yuma: ‘Course not! Not only the prize money either, but the 10 kg of salt given as a bonus prize will be mine as well!
Kino: Ah. …That’s it!
Laito: Eh? 
Kino: I’m pretty sure…salt is the Magic Goldfish’ greatest enemy…? I’ve heard that if you sprinkle it on top, it’ll shrink down just like a sea slug does. 
Laito: Then we can just use the salt over there, right? Well then, Yuma…You’re our man when it comes to physical work!
Yuma: …No.
Laito: Eh? 
Yuma: I refuse to give up the prize! That salt is mine!!
*Wriggle wriggle* 
*Thud thud* 
Laito: Uwah! Could it be…Is it reacting to the word ‘salt’...!? 
*THUD* 
Yuma: Uwah! Hey! Don’t run away towards the prize money! …Ah, fine!! I really want that salt but I guess I’ve got no other choice, I’ll do it!!
Yuma runs up to the salt. 
Yuma: Aaaaah…!!
*Rustle* 
Yuma: Take this…!!
Yuma sprinkles the salt on top of the giant goldfish. 
*Woosh* 
Laito: Wow! Amazing! It shrunk in the blink of an eye!
Kino: Haah…My amazing memory saved lives this time. 
Yuma: But the competition is completely ruined…With everythin’ thrown ‘round, we can’t even tell who caught how many goldfish…Ahー …Which means, just fuck it, right? 
Laito: Eh? What do you mean? 
Yuma: I’ll be claimin’ the prize money in return for takin’ care of the Magic Goldfish. See ya!
Yuma runs off. 
Kino: Hah!? Excuse me!? How am I supposed to pay for my microtransactions then!? 
Kino chases after him.

Laito: Ahー Oh well, I guess this helped me kill some time. Besides, it could be quite interesting to take this Magic Goldfish home and let it free in the bathtub. …Nfu~ With that settled, I better head home right away!

The Pierrot, Mikey and the Reaper

Tl; dr : Manjiro is the Pierrot, Invincible Mikey is his mask and Dark Impulse! Mikey is the Reaper
Pierrot is a word used for Clowns in Japanese. Clowns represent happiness, fun and making others happy but they also represent sadness, pain, tears and hiding your true emotions behind a SMILE. Clowns put on makeup and masks and hide their true selves, their pain to keep others happy; Manjiro constantly hides his true self, his true emotions, his pain behind a SMILE.

The fake smile to hide his true self, his pain, made Takemichy realize that he needs help, and made him go back to help him. 
The one with the fake smile and with his head always held high is Mikey, the Invincible Mikey who stays strong for others, for Toman. He is Manjiro's mask who hides his pain.
“Pierrot” is also often used to show the reality and ironies of the society. Isn’t that what’s going on? We were introduced to Mikey as a crime lord but then turns out he is just kid. He is the “strongest” but also the most vulnerable. Everything suggests that he is holding onto so much pain but is standing strong with a smile for others sake. All the kids are shown to be all strong and enjoying life only for us to realize that all their lives are actually fucked up in different ways. 
Book: The Subject Without Nation. Don’t take this too seriously coz I randomly found the book and don’t know what it is really about.

Manjiro probably represents the “Sad Clown”.
Often found among troops and superhero teams, the Sad Clown is the wisecracking funnyman who copes with his hopeless position with humor — usually of the groan-inducing kind. He is totally insecure at heart and keeps on running his mouth to fool himself into thinking he's confident or to get people to like him.
In the most tragic cases though, people do actually find them genuinely charming and likable because of their humor and like being around them. This is usually of little comfort to the Sad Clowns, whose insecurities cause them to fear that people only really like the "Clown" part of them, and so they do their damnedest to always be the "Clown" in public, but bury and suppress the "Sad" side of them as deeply as possible, because they are afraid that people would like them less if they were to find out about it.
This character tends to make Dude, Not Funny! jokes at inappropriate times to cope. But he is never deliberately a Monster Clown.
I’m not sure but “Canio” is a “Sad Clown” which is said to have turned into a “Monster Clown” because of the immense pain he was feeling. He killed his own wife and her lover when he found her cheating on him. Monster Clowns are just that a monster, scary and violent.
I think we can surely say now that dark impulses are a result of immense pain. South told us that he was in pain back in chapter 228 (Thankyou @hemorrhagia ​ for the official translations. You are a savior).

So what happened in 262 was bound to happen because Manjiro’ s pain is becoming intolerable, something he can’t keep under the wraps anymore. He is scared and completely alone.
I know we were told that Hanma is the Reaper and Kisaki is the Pierrot but I think Wakui gave us that so we don’t notice the actual Reaper and Pierrot. And it fucking worked.
Before Bonten, we were told that Kisaki is the reason things keep going bad but then we realized that it was actually because of Mikey. Kisaki was not the one putting on fake smiles and making others happy, that was Mikey. Hanma is called the Reaper but he isn’t the one killing people, that’s again Mikey. So both Hanma and Kisaki call themselves the Reaper and Pierrot but neither of them do what the title suggests but Mikey does all of that without using any of those terms because he doesn’t talk.
Hanma starts talking about the Reaper and Pierrot at the end of chapter 205, volume 23 and since chapter 207, volume 24, the story is completely focused on Mikey. Volume 24 inside cover is Mikey surrounded by skulls sitting on a throne which is his bike. The image on the left in the beginning is Mikey in chapter 109 asking Takemichy to scold him like an older brother, in the middle is him giving a fake smile to assure Takemichy that he is going to be fine in chapter 200 and on the right is dark impulse! Mikey from chapter 232. Notice the difference in how he looks in those images. They are same yet different. Manjiro looks like a child, Mikey looks fake, DI! Mikey looks like a ghost. 
Manjiro is the Pierrot who is in pain and needs help, Mikey is the mask who is hiding the pain with the smile and Dark Impulse! Mikey is the Reaper about to kill South. When the mask breaks voluntarily because he feels safe, we see Manjiro, the Pierrot who was hiding. This is when he starts looking younger like a child (chapter 109) and asks for help. When Mikey breaks involuntarily because the pain becomes intolerable, we see Dark Impulse! Mikey, the reaper. 
We were with Mikey this whole time and it was nice and comforting, now we are dealing with the Reaper and its scary and we are yet to meet the Pierrot properly which its going to be painful.

Ok but the constant mentions of “neo” and “power” in undertale/deltarune are driving me nuts, especially when the two are related to each other. From the regular Spamton neo fight alone we have:
“THIS POWER IS FREEDOM.“
“3X THE [Fire]POWER. 2X THE [Water]POWER”
“LOOK AT THE [Power of NEO]”
“[The Smooth Taste Of] NEO”
“NO!!! NO!!! NE-O!! KRIS!! YOUR [Deal] HAS FAILED!! [NEO] NEVER LOSES!!”
“With a power like that...“
And in the snowgrave fight:
“THANKS TO YOUR [Total Jackass stunts] I HAVE [Becomed] NEO”
“BUT IN A [1 for 1] BATTLE, NEO NEVER LOSES!!!”
“IT'S TIME FOR A LITTLE [Bluelight Specil]. DIDN'T YOU KNOW [Neo] IS FAMOUS FOR ITS HIGH DEFENSE!?”
(YOU WON'T FIND HIGHER ATTACK AND DEFENSE ANYWHERE ELSE!!! THE SMOOTH TASTE OF NEO "WAKE UP AND TASTE THE PAIN".)
(Spamton Neo's ATTACK dropped! Spamton Neo's DEFENSE rose greatly!)
(Spamton NEO recovered HP with Pipis!)
(Spamton NEO's DEFENSE is towering.)
Then more with the Mettaton ex fight:
“Witness the true power of humanity's star!”
(With the last of your power, you posed dramatically. The audience screams.)
Mettaton before the neo fight also brags about his new body, calling it “MY TRUE FORM!”
Swatch also mentions the “power” of the neo form:
“The Lightner filled it with their own hope, giving it an incredible power.”
“And thought he could use its power to fulfill his own twisted dreams.”
Queen has this line:
“She Will Create A Neo Dark Fountain”
And there’s also these two lines from the Jevil fight:
(JEVIL's upcoming move got powered up!)
“THE TRUE AND NEO CHAOS!”
This line Rouxls says before he turns to stone in chapter 2 also very much interests me:
“The REALE power of Rouxls Kaard...!!!”
So much association of the word “power” with being “neo,” whatever being “neo” means. Mettaton neo’s battle theme is even called Power of “NEO,” with neo oddly enough being in quotes, much like how Spamton sometimes (but not always) says "neo” in brackets, and the Japanese translation of BIG SHOT also references Power of “NEO” by being titled Power of [[BIG]].
There’s also the fact that “neo” is mostly written in all caps, but sometimes only the n is capitalized...an odd distinction, and there doesn’t seem to be a clear reason as to why one writing of neo is used over the other at various times. 
Sometimes, Spamton even keeps “neo” in all caps in the brackets, which is odd because he doesn’t speak in all capitals for phrases in the brackets, he usually either capitalizes Every First Letter like Queen does or he uses normal caps and punctuation (except for a few times in his neo form and a few times where he uses all caps for one or two words for emphasis before going back to normal capitalization) 
The repeated mentioning of the “high attack and defense” of both Mettaton neo and Spamton neo, as well as Spamton neo’s trading of higher attack power for more defense and the ability to heal himself in the weird route is also interesting, especially since this “high attack and defense” seems misleading as Mettaton neo can be killed in one hit, and although Spamton neo is immune to being killed by Kris, he is easily frozen in one turn by Noelle’s spells.
And the way it’s phrased in so many of these instances makes “neo” seem like a noun, like something tangible and not just an adjective for something new and powerful. What is neo in these contexts? What does “neo” exactly mean?
Not related to “neo” or “power” but there’s also these moments from the snowgrave Spamton neo fight, Rouxl’s thrash mashine battle, and in the Mettaton ex fight:
Spamton: “NOT!!!”

He only uses regular capitalization for sentences during his diary entries and when he becomes Mettaton ex, but at the end of the fight he then switches back to all caps. Mettaton neo never stops using all caps. I still don’t know what all of this means but I feel like that’s worth mentioning.

Frosty Ruins Where Is Anne Frank
I have to admit going into this one I have my biases against it. First of all it was made in 2022 and nothing produced in the last 5-6 years has been good. Also because it's about nazis and jewish people I can't imagine it's going to be a faithful or accurate movie in the slightest because nobody in hollywood understands even the first thing about what a nazi is. Other than that I'm going into this movie totally blind, never heard of it before, never saw a trailer and am not even aware of the premise beyond the title.
The movie opens with text on a black screen and starts with a typo saying "the diary is one of the famous books ever written" I think you might be missing a word or two there pal. This is the opening sequence...you didn't bother to proof read the first ten seconds of your movie? It's two sentences and you fucked it up.
I don't know who made this but the art style is like if studio ghibli was tumblrized. It's like a weird combo of cheap netflix cartoon character designs but done in the style of an expensive japanese anime. It looks weird and I don't like it but it's not as cancerous to look at, the art itself is not off putting enough to discard it based on look alone.
What is off putting is the premise, the imaginary girl that Anne Frank is writing to comes to life and goes looking for Anne. The words of the diary magically swirl into life...there's just something that feels off ethically with this one. Like that it's exploitive in some way but I can't quite put my finger on it yet.
Our first look at the nazis is as I feared...absurd. The nazis march down the street in all black cloaks like they're the fucking nazgul, and they don't look human, their eyes are totally black and their faces are ghostly  white and expressionless. It's actually a perfect representation of what demonizing something is. Now I'm not saying they weren't bad guys...but they were human. That should be the primary lesson people take away from nazi Germany...the horrors and retarded nonsense that thinking people were convinced to do. That's the horror of the story of the holocaust, that people who were once friends and neighbours are now hunting each other like animals, stripping them of their basic rights and dignity and doing so in the full belief that they were doing the right thing. When you turn a nazi into this snarling inhuman demon you unlearn that lesson.
Now I've never read Anne Franks diary but I am aware of the backstory and that there are multiple versions. There are multiple versions because when they realized they would be submitting the diary for publication there were a number of things Anne had written that the father edited it out because it made them look bad. The movie claims that never happened but they say a lot of stuff that's lies. Remember this is a child stuck in a room with people in a terrible situation so not everything she wrote would have been very nice, I understand there was some nasty things said about some of the people they were hiding with or something like that. And maybe that's what bothers me about the movie, it's not reality...it's taking a traumatic experience a child had...cleaning it up to fit a narrative and packaging it for entertainment purposes.
There's also a point in her description of the persecution of the jews that annoyed me, she claims the reason they were targetted was because societies always find a minority group to blame. But that's not what happened and again this is another major history lesson we should all have taken from nazi germany that everybody has forgotten. It wasn't because they were a minority, nobody just says I'm going to hate this minority group for no reason Germany was a society built on minority groups, there were many different minority groups. The reason they chose the jews and the reason many societies have always chosen the jews...and the reason they so effectively villified the jews was because they were seen as a privileged class of people. Because so many of the societies doctors, lawyers, bankers, were jewish. Jews are an insular community that looks out for each, because of their strong sense of family nationality and faith coupled with a desire to do well and to train their kids to do well, they tend to be overrepresented in many powerful and profitable industries. This was why they were targetted, this is why they were scapegoated...it's the same rhetoric that goes into any generic 1%er or eat the rich diatribe. It was the socialist part of national socialism, only the capitalists hoarding all the wealth were jews rather than just "the rich"
The reason this rationale is forgotten about, glossed over and rebranded is because it describes the behaviour and worldview of modern progressive politics perfectly. They ignore that part of it because they themselves are guilty of it. Hitlers speeches and writings about the jews were rewritten to be about white people or about men and have been published in progressive university journals. So they have to pretend it's just because they were minorities because to understand the reality would mean cognitive dissonance.
All that aside the movie also has this boring artsy movie vibe to it I'm not interested in. I don't need to sit here and watch a little girl play cats cradle in a police station while a soft mandolin plays in the background, or listen to melancholic indie vocals over images of an imaginary girl ice skating before dissolving into inky wisps.
There's also a fairly blasphemous part I don't think a lot of jews or any religious people would appreciate where they both imply that God's existence is ridiculous while also implying that Anne Frank is like God because she's everywhere...because a lot of things are named after her. There's a lot of moments like that which scream "non practicing jew." They really go out of their way to literally deify her and at one point call her diary a sacred object.
The whole premise of the movie is bizarre and it only gets more bizarre. The idea is you see flashbacks to Anne Franks life and they are mixed in with parts of the movie that take place in the modern world...where this imaginary friend is looking for her long gone friend. The movie is incomprehensible because parts of it play like a fever dream and the rest of it is people behaving strangely and saying things that are so out of left field and are not believable.
The most disgusting part of the movie is the ending, where they use the emotional manipulation of the holocaust stories and try to tie it to other political agendas that have nothing to do with the holocaust. At the end she threatens to burn Annes diary if the country doesn't let in all the refugees and let them all stay for as long as they want. The movie is just one long attempt to use jewish people as props to advance a political agenda and the whole movie reeks of it. I hated this movie a lot but I feel like I'd have a much more visceral hatred of it if I was jewish.
The movie ends with this white text that makes the completely baseless assertion that antisemitism, violent racism and persecution of minorities is on the rise.

Hi! I had a question, how much would you take into the consideration the statements of developers when talking about the analysis’s of video games?
For example, I was having a conversation with someone regarding whether Laura from SH2 was real or just another manifestation. The person that I was talking to agreed with all my analogy but then disregarded it because apparently one developer said she was real. I’ve also had this type of conversation within RE fandom where they constantly bring up developer points rather than reading the text and it is frustrating because there’s no way for me to sort of answer back to a developer statement. I don’t know how VG development work, but surely there’s hundreds of them all working together and many would have different interpretations/opinions, so is it worth just looking at the text than the opinion of one developer?
It depends on:
1. The publisher
2. The studio
3. The person who said it
If it's an indie game, you can pretty much take anyone's word as canon law. Like, SuperGiant Games only has 26 people total working on their games. If literally any dev says anything about Hades, it's as good as the information being in the game itself, because every dev was involved in every stage of production.
If it's something like The Evil Within, which was developed by a Japanese studio (Tango Gameworks) but published by an American publisher (Bethesda), I don't necessarily take Pete Hines's word as law (Bethesda's PR guy) because not only did he not actually work on the game, he doesn't even speak the language of the people who actually did.
If it's something like Final Fantasy VII Remake, and it's Yoshinori Kitase talking, you disregard everything he says because he fucking lies. He lies for sport. He loves lying about his projects. Nomura is honest maybe half the time. Hamaguchi is generally pretty honest.
If it's Resident Evil, the actual literal only person whose word I would take as Word of God is Shinji Mikami -- and that's only for the games up to and including OG RE4. And that's because he was the creative lead in charge of the series from the time of conception (the first RE1 was literally all his idea) through the GameCube release of OG RE4.
Anyone else working on RE? Throw out their opinion. It's garbage. Because there are hundreds and hundreds of people working on those games, and several of them are always in development concurrently, and there's no one central figure overseeing all of it anymore. Directors, producers, developers -- all of them come and go from title to title, with no sense of consistency between them.
RE is too fuckhuge and labyrinthine and does not, at any point, ask or require its player base to look outside of the games to understand what's happening. There are series that do do that. Final Fantasy is one of them. If you don't read the Ultimania or some of the novellas that get released as supplementary material for the games, sometimes huge chunks of the plot will come off as total nonsense. RE doesn't do that.
And so, when these games are being made, the only things that the current development team use to craft the game and the story are the games that came before them. None of them are combing through marketing materials and interviews and manga adaptations and what the fuck ever else. They're looking at the other games.
So, in fact, RE's plot and characters actually make more sense if you ignore literally everything the devs say.
When it comes to RE, if it's not in the games or CGI movies, it's not canon.
Period.
It has to actually be in the games. I should be able to put a game in and find the exact quote a person is talking about. Because if it was that important to know and that universally agreed upon by the bulk of the people working on the game, it would be in the game.

Ah, sure, I don’t mind at all. Most songs reminiscent of Sayaka to me are mainly vocaloid based, or are Japanese songs in general. Here are some songs essentially attached to Sayaka for disorganised reasons that are arbitrary, ranging from the song’s title, its tune, or its message:
Maretu — Packet Hero, Girl Eraser, Magical Doctor, Brain Revolution Girl, White Happy, Umitagari/Disillusioned, SIU (Suck It Up), Koukatsu, Miseenen, Aishiteitanoni
[Maretu songs are a source of inspiration to me when Sayaka is concerned, although I have previously made a Namida PMV using my original characters. A dose of soliloquy and lots of exciting instrumentals. I listen to these when I want to draw Sayaka being edgy, which is…almost all the time. Recommended.]

The music I listen to for inspiration for Sayaka art doesn’t strictly follow this list since it’s expected that I also listen to whatever comes on sometimes. Music can also be distracting and even detrimental to the process of drawing for me, so I don’t listen to music a lot when I am in the right mind and circumstance for drawing. But these are songs that remind me of the character when I’m listening to the songs casually. I am unfortunately the type of artist who needs to sit in his room with total silence to draw anything; although with the way art is, most days I can’t even draw because of the way I am.

I really do love how large of a role family plays in the story and the characters’ motivations and personalities. I still feel like we’re in the “early” part of the series, but to be already picking up on so many of these themes and motifs is really cool, and I’m definitely keen to see how they all come to a head in the series.

Final thoughts: This was definitely a lot more interesting than the last volume, and the pace seems to be picking up. I’m still kinda waiting for it to get out of “villain of the week” type plot, but at least we’re getting more depth out of it. Also, it seems like we’ve completely abandoned those twelve coin assassins at this point? There are some things I’m still unsure about, like Y, but I also know that I struggle to pick up on more indirect things in my second language, especially when it’s referencing something that we’re just supposed to figure out. So that’s my assumption on Y, but I still don’t have any ideas on why Wolfwood has such strong ties with it. Also, I feel like my thoughts were pretty short for this volume, but that’s also definitely because there was lots of action and fight scenes this time around, and my brain just kinda shuts off for those lolol
