“Fuck Larissa! I’m late!” you hurried out of your shared bedroom, putting on your clothes on the way to the kitchen to fetch some coffee before leaving. Larissa whined, still in your bed, tucked under the warmth of your fluffy blankets. “Hmm, late from where?” she groggily asked, voice just loud enough for you to hear from the kitchen. “From work! God, how did we sleep in?” You asked, rather yourself, than your girlfriend, pouring your coffee into a to-go cup, returning to the bedroom to Larissa. “Wish you could stay home instead. Call in sick, darling.” she grabbed your arm, pulling you down so you were laying on top of her, your faces incredibly close. She grinned and caressed your cheek, planting a little kiss to your nose. “Ha! Says the workaholic!” you laughed, “But seriously, Rissa. I need to go.” You kissed her softly, grabbing your phone, sliding it into your pocket. “Hurry back home, I’ll be so, so lonely without you here.” Larissa pouted and you laughed, letting go of her hand, standing up. “Promise, baby.” you whispered, leaving your girlfriend in the bedroom, heading to work.

You were sitting in Larissa’s lap in her office, looking out the window, where you saw some Nevermore students with their phones placed against the wall, dancing in front of the device. “What are they even doing?” you furrowed your brows and Larissa just chuckled before squeezing your hands. “A TikTok.” said the headmistress simply.

“Say that again?” you got even more confused, looking at Larissa who couldn’t help but laugh a little again. “Don’t laugh at me, Woman! Elaborate. What is a TokTok? “No, not TokTok. They’re doing a TikTok. It’s a platform where people dance and lip sync to different songs. Or just upload short videos. It can be really fun.” Larissa said confidently, like she’s been on this platform for ages, and somehow you got even more confused. “Wait, do you use this platform? Tik Tok?” you raised your brows, and your girlfriend pulled out her phone, opening the application for you, where the first thing you saw was some guy telling tips on how to propose to your partner. Larissa quickly snatched her phone from your hand, closing the app, her cheeks red as a cherry. “Well, there are some trash videos as well, the algorithm is not working properly sometimes.” she said awkwardly, not even looking at you. “Well I hope you weren’t planning on proposing to me with the help of a TikTok, Larissa.” you grinned and she just raised her eyebrows at you. “Why would I propose to an asshole like you?” “Ouch, I was just trying to be funny, baby. Tell me, do you dance in front of your phone as well?” you smirked. “Hmm, sometimes. When you’re not home and I’m bored.” she smiled and kissed your neck, your eyes widened a bit at her revelation. “God, I am so late to these trends, I start to think I might be old.”

“Late, late, late! We are always late! Just fantastic!” you yelled while frantically packing your suitcase for your 2-week vacation with Larissa, the woman laughing at you from the doorway. “You are the one who doesn’t have their bags packed. Besides, we still have 2 hours until the train leaves.” she walked behind you, wrapping her arms around your waist. “Don’t stress so much, darling. It’ll make you lose your beautiful hair.” “I just want everything to be perfect. It’s been so long that we could enjoy some free time. Just the two of us.” you mumbled as you turned around in her arms, kissing her softly. “I know dearest, I know. But what matters is that we’re finally free. No work, no kids, no annoying colleagues, just us.” Larissa kissed you again, cupping your cheeks, smiling into the kiss. The only thing you need to do this summer is to enjoy Larissa’s presence and have her in all the possible ways you can.

By the time Larissa got home, you were incredibly close to a nervous breakdown on your bathroom floor, staring into nothing. “Darling? I’m home!” You heard Larissa yell for you. Normally, you would greet her with a tight hug and a lovely kiss but this time you weren’t, therefore Larissa knew something was up. “Y/N? Are you alright, baby?” She walked around your shared apartment looking for you. When she spotted you in the bathroom, sitting on the floor, she gave you a worried look. Looking around the room, she quickly realized you were sick, as she noticed the puke in your hair and in the toilet as well. “Y/N, are you sick? Where does it hurt?” She carefully sat down next to you, flushing the toilet and tying up your hair, running a hand down your back to offer you some comfort. “Lar- Larissa?” you mumbled groggily, almost puking again from the taste in your mouth. “Yes, darling? It’s okay, let it out. Did you eat something bad?” your fiancée asked with worry in her voice. “N-no Larissa, I’m-” you swallowed, looking at her with teary eyes. “Shhh, It’s okay, I know you hate throwing up. I will clear out the fridge first thing tomorrow, to prevent you from eating anything bad again.

“No, Larissa, there’s no need fo-” “No, you just lay down, and I’ll do-” “Larissa I’m late.” you whispered, without the usual wrath in your voice. Larissa raised her eyebrows. “Late to what, darling?” she caressed your arm, not really understanding what you wanted to say. “No, I’m- My period. I was supposed to get my period 2 weeks ago.” your voice has never been this quiet. “W-what?” Larissa’s hand rested on your cheek, slowly caressing it while she tried to process the information. “I-uhm, do you rem-remember when we, we, uhm a few months ago you shape- uhm, shapeshifted-” you stuttered and felt like throwing up again. “Yes, yes I do. Have you taken any tests yet?” she asked softly, not releasing your cheek. “N-no, I wasn’t sure I could do it alone.” you said quietly, a silent tear running down your cheek. “Okay. Let’s get you cleaned up, and then we’ll take a few tests, okay baby?” Larissa was so gentle with you, you could cry.

After Larissa helped you shower, you brushed your teeth while she got a few pregnancy tests, handing you them and waiting at the other side of the door. After about 30 minutes, which felt like 3 hours, you opened the bathroom door. Larissa stood up immediately, rushing over to you, asking you silently. “Well, if these gadgets are trustworthy, we’re going to be mommies.” you smiled fondly at Larissa, tears streaming down your face. She immediately wrapped her arms around you, kissing all over your face, planting a final long kiss onto your lips. “Oh my darling, Y/N, I love you more than anything and I am so excited to begin this journey with you.”

Hi. I'm alive and I'm gonna forego updating my artblog and just post this bc it took. too long, and I'm done having the "my artblog needs to have everything on it chronologically" mindset on here

I've fallen face first back into my mcyt/life series/hc obsession, and specifically my helsmits. The title of this file is "drawing other people's hels as a warmup"...... .....needless to say that warmup escalated and I've been drawing on these for like two or three days-

~~~ 1. The two in the bottom left are my own fallsmits (= helsmits with extra steps, lol) for Bdubs and Tango, Sleepless and SwingTek the beloveds- Swing has an inbetween of his natural and his "I'm totally TangoTek guys" hair colors in this doodle, because I said so.

2. Top left is a Hels!Stress named AnxiousBeast, who belongs to @square-milk. the possum thing is so creative, and I love her grian-esque unhinged vibes, so I just had to draw her 3. Top right is a Hels!Grian concept by @daffodily that I had my eye on when I first got into helsmits a year or two ago, but I don't think I ever ended up drawing him. No name given, as far as I could tell. Super dark with the stitches and everything but I love it. Totally different vibes but he does remind me a tiny bit of my falls!grian, Gregory, and I'm all for that - it's probably mostly the sweater color though jhdfkjgh but still

4. Bottom right is Foxtrot, a Hels!Tango with a very cool name, posted by @neoflames. I love the ice+siren powers this one has, plus the hair is very cool (no pun intended)

5. Central to this doodle page is Iota, a Hels!Grian design I saw and immediately became obsessed with. what the hels. who comes up with this stuff. (the answer is @rhapsoddity. rhapsoddity comes up with this stuff.)

6. And last but most certainly not least! At the center of the top is a figure that people on my art blog will have seen before, and that anyone who's browsed the helsmit tags will recognize - the beloved Limbo Lag by @galaxygermdraws. what a guy. what a little guy. he needs a hug someone hug him NOW this is an order. I'm sure my boy Swing would be glad to hear he's not the only blue tango counterpart giving off sad little guy energy

1. How many works do you have on A03?

18 as of a few days ago!

2. What's your total A03 word count?

157,937! Which is. Only a fraction of the word count in my Docs folder. Be prepared.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I mainly write for The Legend of Zelda; specifically Linked Universe! In fact, that's all that's posted on my Ao3 currently, since my fall into that fandom began with me uploading there! Pre-Ao3 I wrote for Black Cat (Anime/Manga), Megaman NT Warrior, various Pokémon things, Assassin's Creed, Yugioh, Final Fantasy XIV and Octopath Traveler! Some of these I still write privately, but I haven't gotten around to re-posting any.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Whistling on Deaf Ears - My longest fic on Ao3, focusing on Wild and Twilight's friendship and how good intentions can lead to disaster.

Iconoclasm - Warriors deals with the room full of portraits in Cia's palace. The Chain also deals with it, but with a bit more fire.

Deserving - Twilight finally tells Rusl that he was the wolf in the village during TP, but that also means dealing with some heavier topics. Colin half overhears them and forms his own conclusions.

Something Greater - The start of the "Hyrule can see magical auras" series! In this one we deal with Legend and his many rings.

Ocean Magic - Mermaid Legend and Zora Time have a race and then fight one of the Big Octos from WW! Fun times.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Every single one!! I love comments, they give me an excuse to ramble about my fic more!! I am always down to ramble about every single insignificant detail of any line and/or section. If you ever want more background info about one of my fics, look to the comments!

So please, I adore comments, I treat them like treasures, not responding to them would be a CRIME.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

There's no contest; Inevitable, my (so far) only MCD fic.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hmmm, that's hard to quantify. I usually try to end fics on a hopeful note regardless. I'd say possibly either Deserving, where Twilight reconnects with his family, or Shimmering Blue, Striking White, where Time meets the Fierce Deity settled down on Satori Mountain and they both get closure.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully, no! I've been blessed with mostly amazing and patient readers, even when my upload schedule isn't the best.

9. Do you write smut?

No, not really. I've attempted it, but I'm too asexual for it lol

10. Do you write crossovers?

Very, very rarely. Mostly privately, and only very specific ones. Only a single one has had an actual plot, so far (more on that one in question 15!).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Also a nope! I tend to write for smaller fandoms, where these things don't tend to happen a lot!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have! But it's been a while. Over a decade, in fact! I tried to find the fic to link it here, but it was on the German fanfic website fanfiktion.de, and my friend who posted it back then must have deactivated her account, because it's nowhere to be seen (I still have the Word file though!). It was a Multi-Crossover that started as an RP in a forum, and we took turns turning the RP into prose one chapter each. "If a Hero Turns to Dark" was its title. We were edgy teenagers.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Hissssss. Bad question. Shoo. They are all equally important!!

But it's probably TenRose from Doctor Who.

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

One of the very few crossovers I've ever worked on; a crossover fic between Assassin's Creed and Doctor Who, that I have mapped out in both chronological and timeline order, and yes, those are different. I only ever wrote about a quarter of it, since my primary audience of it disappeared when we graduated. I doubt I'll ever pick it back up properly, and if I do it'll probably go through heavy rewrites first since it's so old. Finishing it is a nice thought, but realistically, after 9 years it'll never be high priority enough for it to actually happen.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, especially arguments, and emotional impact. I've been told I do really well making characters feel alive and believable! Also I like to believe I'm decent at setting a scene and giving it the vibe I want it to have!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I struggle with dialogue tags when nothing much is happening besides the talking. I always feel it's too bland, and fall back on the same phrases. My scene transitions could use some work too.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done this with Japanese phrases, because I was a massive weeb. Usually I followed them up with their own translations, though; I'm not the biggest fan of footnote translations, unless they are properly linked to. Simple dialogue tags are my favourite way of indicating a language switch.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Black Cat the Manga/Anime! It's a series about an assassin turned bounty hunter trying to live a life separate from his murdery past, but getting dragged back into things by still wanting to avenge his best friend's death. The series has a special place in my heart and my bookshelf, it left an imprint on 13-year-old me that will never leave.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Probably Jailbreak, uncharacteristically enough! It's one of the only fics I never got stuck in once. Writing it was a great feeling from start to finish. I love writing all of my fics, but that was a special few days.

Kane & Jim #50: On Your Own

content: angst, parental death, kids grappling with newfound orphanhood, religious angst, pandemic, discussion of foster system, very vaguely referenced past child abuse, flashback to hospital setting

takes place 4 years before You're Mine Now. the hardest time of Jim’s life pre-Kane. he doesn’t like to think about it very much. this isn’t really ‘whump’, more ‘angst’, but i hope you enjoy it anyway.

Jim kind of expected someone to come after the funeral. A social worker or orphanage owner or however this shit worked. Did orphanages still exist, or was that just in movies? He never thought he'd have to think about it.

But no one came.

Well, people came. His friends, Mom and Dad's friends, Rabbi Geller, other people from temple, Liz's friends' parents, even Liz's teacher from the elementary school. They brought food, and said I'm sorry for your loss and May their memory be a blessing so many times that the words lost all meaning.

It felt like the kind of thing Mom would tell him to just be polite for, but Mom wasn’t here. Mom would never be here again. It still didn’t feel real.

But that wasn't what he meant. Someone was supposed to come get them, right? Because he was only fifteen, and Liz was only eleven, and they didn’t have any other family. Right?

Someone was going to come help him, right?

Liz was a nightmare. Jim felt like he didn’t even have a second to think. He was used to watching Liz- Mom and Dad worked long hours, after all- but now it was all time, especially because they hadn’t gone back to school yet.

She was throwing another tantrum. Jim felt like they were only getting worse. He cringed as a plate flew into the wall, shattering with a crash barely audible above Liz’s incessant screeching.

“Lizzie, you gotta stop. You’re too old for this.” Jim fought off his pounding headache as he got right in front of her, blocking her as she reared her arm back to throw another.

“No I’m not!” she yelled, darting to the side and throwing the plate as hard as she could, shattering it against the wall. Tears streamed down her face.

Jim let out an exasperated groan. “Stop! Yes you are! Go to your room!”

“You can’t tell me what to do!” Liz ran back into the kitchen.

Fuck, she was gonna get another plate. Jim ran after her, blocking the cabinet. “Yes I can! I’m in charge now, go to your room!”

“I hate you!” Liz shouted. She kicked him in the shin before running up the stairs, slamming her door.

Jim rubbed his temple, his headache only getting worse. He thought about breaking into Mom and Dad’s drink. It wasn’t like anyone was around to stop him. But he didn’t.

Instead, he fought back tears and grabbed the broom and dustpan. He was tired of crying. Just when he was finishing cleanup, Liz appeared at the top of the stairs, holding her bear tight in her arms. She hadn’t carried that thing around since she was 6, but things were different now, he figured.

“You calmed down yet?” he asked.

“Sorry.” She squeezed her bear tighter, avoiding eye contact.

Jim shrugged, dumping the last of the shatters in the trash. “It’s cleaned up now anyway.” His eyes drifted over to the stove. “How about I make some hot chocolate?”

“But it’s summer,” Liz protested half-heartedly.

“Who cares? We’re sitting shiva,” Jim pointed out. “Do you not want hot chocolate?”

“...I want it.” She sat herself on the couch.

This was something he could do without fucking up, at least. He barely even had to think about it, just focus on the steps. Set some whole milk over heat. Cocoa powder, sugar, a dash of vanilla, and the part people always miss: chocolate chips and a little bit of cinnamon.

He poured in some half-and-half to make it extra creamy and cool it enough that Liz wouldn’t burn herself, and topped it with some mini marshmallows before bringing the mugs out, handing one to Liz.

“Thanks,” she mumbled, sipping immediately without blowing on it.

“You’re gonna burn your mouth, stupid,” Jim chided lightheartedly.

Liz rolled her eyes. “No I’m not ‘cause you always put extra milk in after.”

“Because you never give it a minute to cool down!” He ruffled her hair. “No more throwing shit, okay? Or if you need to, use stuffed animals or something. Why’d you do that, anyway?”

Liz was quiet for a long moment, sipping her drink. “I dunno,” she mumbled.

“How about next time you wanna do that, come get me. We can make it into a game, yeah? We could play catch or something. Not with plates,” he suggested.

“It’s not supposed to be a game.” She took another sip, eyes too stormy for an eleven year old.

Jim took the blanket off the back of the couch and draped it around Liz’s shoulders. “Okay. Come get me anyway. We’ll figure it out.”

No one from the government came. Even after a week. Even after they were done sitting shiva and Jim made Liz start going back to school, another nightmare of an argument.

He wished he could’ve asked Mom or Dad for advice. Liz almost always listened to them, at least about the important stuff. It felt like someone was tearing a fresh shred in his heart every time he missed them.

After he finished walking her, he turned and made his way to temple on a whim. He only went to temple a couple times a year, on the holidays when Mom wanted everyone to go as a family. He hadn’t even brought his kippah. But he doubted anyone would really care, and he needed advice, and it was this or a teacher, even if Jim hadn’t talked to the guy since his bar mitzvah. Before the funeral, that is.

“Hey, Rabbi Geller.”

“Good morning, James.” The rabbi gave him a sad smile. “How are you and your sister holding up?”

“Uh, y’know.” He shrugged awkwardly. “I was wondering if I could talk to you for a sec?”

“Of course. Let’s go to my office for some privacy.” The rabbi led him to the office and gestured for him to sit. “What can I do for you?”

“I’m not here for anything, uh, spiritual or whatever,” he clarified quickly. “I just needed some advice about something. Um, is someone gonna... come get us?”

The rabbi’s brows furrowed in concern. “No one’s come to get you? Who is it you and your sister will be staying with? I know Beth said she didn’t have much family...”

“Mom and Dad were both wards of the state or whatever,” Jim said awkwardly. “Kinda thought we would be too, now. But, uh... no one came. I wasn’t really sure what to do. Plus Liz is throwing things and refusing to go to school and stuff.”

“I’m so sorry you’ve been left floundering. I should have been there to see to it.” The rabbi sighed. “Things have been hectic. This flu’s taken quite a toll. It’s lucky you even caught me here. If you ever need something and can’t find me, the funeral home’s likely where I am.”

Jim knew he was one of the lucky ones. He and Liz both got sick too, but they recovered. It was no wonder they all got it, with Mom being a nurse and all. He didn’t really feel lucky right now.

“The government... tends to overlook this town,” the rabbi continued. “No one wants to come here, even during the day when it’s safe. I can certainly get in touch with people for you and make sure someone gets you two set up in a foster home. I’d just like you to think about your options first.”

“Options?” Jim questioned.

“James, do you remember your bar mitzvah two years ago? I sure do. You were very well-spoken.” The rabbi gave him a kind smile.

“Uh-huh.” He kicked his feet, unsure where this was going.

“A bar mitzvah is when a boy becomes a man, as we discussed. Now, I certainly don’t believe a thirteen year old boy to be a man in the modern day, nor a fifteen year old boy. But you are the man of the house now, and you’re going to have to make some adult decisions no one should have to make at your age.”

The rabbi sighed again, his breath full of grief. “The foster system isn’t known for its kindness. I’m not sure how much your parents have told you of their own experiences. Children your age aren’t likely to be adopted, and you’ll be spit out three years later and possibly separated from your sister. Since no one’s come to claim you, one option you have is to continue living where you are. Your parents managed to buy a house here, and you won’t get much from its sale, if you’re able to sell it at all- again, this town is not most people’s destination."

Mom and Dad didn’t like to talk about their childhoods much, and Jim never pried. He figured that if they didn’t want him to know, he didn’t want to know either.

“This isn’t a decision you have to make right away. You’re grieving. Someone from the state may come to collect you yet. Both options have their benefits, and I don’t want to force you into either one of them. Just know that I’m here if you need anything I can provide, and that God is watching over you,” the rabbi said warmly.

Jim could barely hear anything over Liz’s crying and the sounds of the hospital. One of the nurses was trying to pry her off of Dad’s body, but he was too focused on Mom to pay much attention.

She wasn’t conscious anymore. Her last words before she fell asleep were ‘I love you’, and that scared him, because he knew she probably did that on purpose.

He prayed and prayed, despite his unsure feelings of God’s existence. It was the only thing he could do. Tears streamed down his face as he offered more and more words to the higher power Mom believed in with her whole heart, his voice still raspy from his own recently-gotten-over flu.

He wasn’t sure whether it was the ringing in his ears or the flatline until a nurse pushed him out of the way.

“I don’t really believe in that stuff anymore,” Jim muttered.

“Yes, I imagine you might not. That’s perfectly normal.” The rabbi gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Still, I’m certainly real, and I’m here for whatever you need.”

Jim knew that didn’t include taking them in. Rabbi Geller had four kids of his own, and no one lived here if they had a lot of money.

“Thanks, Rabbi. Um, thanks for the advice. And for not just calling the government on me and letting me pick and whatever. I’ll think about it.”

Liz was being a brat again after Jim walked her home from school. Before Mom and Dad died, she only had bad days every once in a while, but now it was every single day. Wild mood swings where she’d get angry and even violent, before she calmed down and apologized tearfully.

Part of him, the part he’d never dream of voicing, almost wanted to take Rabbi Geller’s offer to help them get placed in a foster home in the hopes they do get separated. He didn’t know how much more of this he could take.

But he knew he didn’t actually want that.

“I’m sorry,” Liz said, helping him tidy up the living room after she’d finished trashing it. As if reading his mind, she asked, “You’re not gonna go too, right?”

Maybe she could just sense how irritated he was. But it was right then and there his mind was made up.

Jim smiled at her. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Top 10 Dream & Love/Reader Moments

(In chronological order because I can’t rank my children, lol)

1. Part ii - Dream and Love’s First Meeting.

This is definitely a Top 10 moment. I remember being so excited to write Dream for the first time and to describe him through Love/Reader’s eyes. Establishing their relationship (especially Love’s habit of challenging Dream), writing their first little bit of “tension,” and then adding the abrupt end was so much fun for me.

2. Part iii - A Day in the Life of Love

This was another favorite early on. This chapter was entirely dedicated to establishing Dream/Love’s dynamic and revealing the inner workings of Love’s world, and I adored every second of it. Writing Dream’s obvious surprise at Love’s passion for simple pleasures (coffee and earl grey, anyone?) and his (thinly veiled) interest in her function were opportunities to show off Dream’s curious nature. I also loved writing the opening scene of him showing up in her room unannounced, reading a novel, with no regard for her personal space. To me, this emphasized just how otherworldly Dream is, particularly in comparison to how strongly Love clings to her past as a mortal.

3. Part viii - Dream Gives Love the Pouch of Sand

This gift from the Dream Lord was something I was really looking forward to. It definitely signals a turning point and a big step for our Dream Lord. Dream’s downplaying of how thoughtful it was for him to introduce Love to Hob is 100% thick-headed, pulled-the-wool-over-his-own-eyes Dream material. Also, this scene gives us the first time that Love refers to the Dream Lord as “Dream.” Up until this point, it had been Dream Lord, Lord Morpheus, Morpheus - another subtle but significant development!

4. Part ix - The Whole Dang Chapter

This is one of my all-time favorites of this series. I was so excited to finally put together all the pieces and reveal Love’s complete past to the reader. I was even more excited to write Love journeying to the Dreaming for comfort and finding solace in our Dream Lord. This chapter has our first truly voluntary touch by both parties (When you slip your fingers into the palm of his waiting hand, you’re surprised at the smoothness you find there. Soft as silk.) I was also dying to finally write from Dream’s perspective in this chapter. His evident desperation to gain answers about Love’s past without really knowing (or at least being able to admit to himself) WHY he wanted to know – so fun. Plus, their attachments start forming! So much going on in this chapter.

5. Part x - Love’s Grapples with the Fall

On a deep note, I adored exploring Love’s difficulty grappling with her feelings for Dream in this chapter. Getting to see how her past impacts her current decisions and how it cultivated this strong sense of hesitancy to fall in love out of self-preservation… this was a blast. On a more light-hearted note, writing the scenes where Love begins to notice little things about Dream that she didn’t before, her nervousness in his presence, all her little “simping” moments were SO MUCH FUN, AH.

6. Part xii - Love Submits to the Truth

Writing the scene where Love visits Dream unseen in his throne room was one I was looking forward to for a long time. There was a sweet surrender to this scene – the simple pleasure of being able to really look at him, unabashed and unashamed; admitting his beauty to herself; submitting to the truth of her feelings. That moment where you see someone you care about in a different light for the very first time, where you realize that what you’ve been feeling is actually love… This experience is one I’ve actually lived out in my own life, so writing this scene was very special to me.

7. Part xiii - Protective Dream + “I Remember You”

I mean, need I say more? Getting to finally write Protective Dream was SUCH a huge payoff. I’ve always subscribed to the concept that Dream is not unfeeling; rather, he almost feels too much, and must contain it for the sake of his function. Getting to open the floodgates a bit in this chapter was a thrill. Also, the realization that a part of Dream remembered Love, had always remembered Love, had been aware of her removal from the Dreaming on the night of her murder, and Love’s “Please don’t tell me that, Dream” that followed after his confession – *screams internally*

8. Part xiv - THE Dream and The Break-Up

The “dream” scene where Love and Dream finally give in to their feelings was actually the first scene I ever wrote for this story. Needless to say, the buildup was LONG. Finally getting to write these two lovebirds having a happy moment and opening up to one another gave me all the feels. The exchange of vows!! And then, of course, we had the whiplash of Love declaring her need to stay away from Dream later in the chapter. One love interest lying about their feelings to protect the other love interest is a hill I WILL die on.

9. Part xvi - The Sacrifice

Because I’m a sucker for some good old heart-stopping, gut-wrenching, knock-the-wind-out-of-you angst. This part had it all - Love missing Dream while in the Garden of Forking Ways, Love finally harnessing the full potential of her function, and then the ultimate sacrifice. I remember being so nervous to write this chapter, as it felt the entire story was riding on its shoulders. Dream learning of their attachments, Love’s acceptance of her fate knowing that it was worth it to protect Dream, her admitting her feelings, Dream promising to “find her” – it all set us up for our final chapters.

10. Interlude – Dream’s Vow

Honestly, any time I got to write for Dream was a major highlight for me in this story. Definitely planning on writing a one-shot entirely from Dream’s POV after the story is over. Describing the aftermath of Love’s sacrifice from Dream’s point of view, his utter devotion, his utter destruction – oof, it was a doozy. The angst was rough, but it all set us up for that final line – “And, in that moment, Dream of the Endless knows.”

Bonus: Any dock scene/”Twenty Questions” scene. I love writing for these two dorks. Enough said.

this took me rather long because i obviously read through all of those chapters again

Well, this one is rather obvious. The end of the slow burn. The kiss in the snow. Now that's a New Year. If (when) I print and bind everything changes, this would be where i end the first volume. The first year, the first arc, the first part done. I also deeply love the christmas chapters with sebs family right before, but this one is IT.

Spa in the rain, after the summer break where seb and mark got followed by paps, after so much shit in the press after they came out after monaco, and then that race. Dear god i said it before I'll say it again, georgia_k writes races like no other. I love the chapter before that one too, and i love sebs relationship with dan and lewis here

Honestly this one is just for that one scene in the restaurant, when the owner comes up to them and tells them he won't take their money because Seb will drive for ferrari one day and he can't let a ferrari driver pay. (due to the events after, seb won't remember this happening but i think georgia_k might, and i hope she calls back to it when ferrari seb comes back to monza in the new in-story year. will he remember? will it bring his memory of the accident back? I can't wait to find out but i trust georgia_k)

Sebs return to the track after Parabolica. This entire arc, starting with the crash, through the hospital (honorable mention chapter: La Bella Addormenata, another absolute favorite because damn the pain. reading through it for the first time with georgia pulling no punches. damn.) The part where Seb talks to Niki? goosebumps. I feel like the Parabolica arc starts with the crash and ends with Arabian Nights but this part (and the one where he drives again on track for the first time) is my favorite.

The return to Monza. again, the way lewis and dan are there for seb, again, the racing. Also points for the lyric titles.

Teddy. now these chapters make me ugly cry every time. i don't even want kids but damn. The way seb is finally, finally completely free of heikki, nothing in their way anymore and then kacey happens (please georgia_k how is she. can you give her a little cameo. put her in a flower shop. she deserves happiness.)(fr georgia named henry after the little town next to monaco as explained in the authors notes and then came back to it like 100 chapters later when she had seb smile at the road sign without even mentioning the name. tell me about kacey.) and seb is so dejected and then teddy is there and it's perfect. god i cried buckets.

theres a bit of a pattern of me loving georgia_ks wet races, this one isn't different. I'm just a sucker for the race chapters.

THE MOVE TO FERRARI i can not WAIT, sebs year of parental time is Over (almost, i expect a teddys birthday/new year chapter and then) WE RACE AGAIN honestly, horner at ferrari feels so cursed but if georgia_k gives seb a championship with ferrari all is forgiven. even if not, i know she's a good writer. Just dont forget about restaurant dude.

Sorry to matilda, but the chapters where they get her just don't have the same impact as teddys, they were preparing, seb left early and it hurt a lot but it was worth it. Stars though. I love them growing into their role as parents, I love Teddy as a character (you can tell georgia_k works with kids because she writes him PERFECTLY for his age), i love the domesticity.

We say goodbye to Rachel, who's been such a great character all throughout. Maybe we'll run into her again? This feels like the end of the adoption story era, and the beginning of the ferrari seb era (hopefully. georgia_k do you hear me?) i love how much teddy's grown up, how you can't really see it chapter by chapter but when you skip read through your favorites again, it's so obvious. The kods have gotten so big and I can't wait what happens with them next, I was so fucking scared for them when they were really little because Georgia_k does not hesitate, but now we're ready for the future and if anything happens to the kids i will fight georgia_k.

also, here my favorite quote (chapter 59; Swimming Against The Tide):

As he approached the first of the cars that had gone past him, the forefront of Seb's mind was concentrating on operating the car and calculating what was coming up, but a small part of Sebastian's mind drifted to recall a quote he knew only too well.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1 aka. 2022 Recap

Top 5 works I’m proudest of (in reverse chronological order)

1. One of the Seven Ways (Back to You) fics - (Carlos/TK) I wrote it in Carlos POV (tricky for me), I attempted to bridge a canon gap (also tricky) and I was super not functioning well as a human when I wrote most of them (plainly stupid).

2. (Not) A Cinderella Story (Alex/Henry) - Because I'd had a lot of time off writing RWRB and I re-discovered a love. Plus, I wrote Henry POV. I love Henry but I hate writing him.

3. Love Game (Carlos/TK) - I did something just because I wanted to.

4. Phonography (Carlos/TK) - I've been informed that this is the first Tarlos sex tape fic? Could be wrong. In any case, I liked doing something a bit different.

5. Down For the Count (Alex/Henry) - I mean...it's about poker and blackjack card counting. I had to learn basic theory, high/low and Texas Hold 'Em to write this fic and I can't even tell you why I decided to do it. Plus, I had to do math (running counts/true counts), and I'm famously bad at math.

Top 4 current wips I’m excited about

*checks status of WIP list* *groans*

1. I have two collaborations that carried over from 2022, one of which is (un)professional services with @rmd-writes. I find the collab fics so easy to write, just chilling in a doc, coming up with weird ideas, egging each other on.

2. Plot-driven, chunky, second-chance meets murder mystery AU written almost exclusively in Carlos POV as a consequence of a spiral with @pragmatic-optimist.

3. Firstprince European adventure AU which I've shamefully partially abandoned for so long. It could be my favourite thing I've ever written. If I ever finish it.

4. The crossover which keeps being pushed down my list. Criminal behaviour.

Top 3 improvements in my writing

I found it hard to be serious about this so here are my shit-takes:

1. Socks off in shower.

2. Spelling vibrator correctly.

3. Remembering lube.

Top 2 writing resolutions

1. Develop more nuance in characterisation (I'm looking at you Mr. Carlos Reyes) and not being scared to ask for help when I need it.

2. I wanna post at least 4 Firstprince fics next year, hopefully (hopefully) I can finish European adventure but I'm projecting a WC of like 170k so?? We'll see how we go.

Number 1 favorite line

I can't remember 5 minutes ago, I honestly have no idea. I can give you my word of 2022 though: quadriceps.

Everything I knit in 2023

This would the final 2023 video on my would-be knitting podcast, but I do not have a knitting podcast so enjoy it on here instead.

I'll go in chronological order since every item is different (there is 1 hat, 1 garment, etc) except for the socks, as I'm delighted to say I knit 4 pairs of!

Keep in my that this is my 3rd year knitting.

Btw, the cost is for the number of skeins I've bought and opened for this project. If I only used half a skein, it will be calculated like a full skein price wise.

Buffalo Rose Beanie by KC Knitting Co

Project on Ravelry. My first stranded colorwork & my first proper hat! I learned a ton of techniques with this, like colorwork and how to construct a basic hat and a new cast on. I did so many swatches before starting this project. I love the rose design but I think my choice of yarn made it a bit squished?

It's slightly too tight and quite too short. The tightness is my own fault (I should have probably used 4 mm needles instead of 3.5 mm), but other people on Ravelry have said that their hat ended up being too short, so I think this might be a problem of the pattern itself. I had to open the top and knit another round of squares and it still doesn't cover my ears (the photo is from before I did this surgery).

Yarn: Mondial Merinos Extra, Mondial Merino Baby

COST: around 15€

USAGE: Not much because of fit issues.

FUTURE: I might knit it again with 4 mm needles & longer but I don't know if it's worth the hassle anyway.

Project on Ravelry. Used it as a power bank pouch. It served me well over the last year but I've realized that this design with strings is not the best. It doesn't close completely and I'm always scared I'll be losing a phone cable. I remember I didn't do the eyelets for the strings properly either, I should have watched a tutorial.

Yarn: Mondial Merinos Extra

COST: Nothing, from stash.

USAGE: It's been in use for almost 1 year

FUTURE: I'll knit a new version with a different pattern and cotton yarn in 2024.

Cheval qui tien debout | Self-supporting Horse by Kathleen PETTIER

Project on Ravelry. A gift for my sweet little cousin. I was very impressed that I was actually able to pull it off. I used LadyTemeraire notes for this pattern and to her I give my heartfelt thanks. Link on the Ravelry page.

I only have two regrets: I think the back legs are a bit wonky (but nobody is going to notice except for me) and I should have taken the time to make the tail fuller. By that point I was pretty fed up with the project, tho.

Yarn: random yarn I had in stash. I unraveled a scarf and a hat to get the little bits for the rainbow mane, actually.

COST: Nothing, from stash.

USAGE: Dunno. Gift.

FUTURE: Making stuffies is fun and I'd really enjoy making another one for another child.

Nalu Mitts by Leila Raven

Project on Ravelry. A gift. It's a fun project that I would recommend to someone looking for some easy mittens and/or cables. It was fairly quicky to knit up. I did mess up the cables positioning a bit (they are too close to the thumb on one mitten) but oh well. Hopefully my friend won't notice, haha.

Yarn: Mondial Merinos Extra

COST: Nothing, from stash.

USAGE: It was a gift so who knows

FUTURE: I'l probably knit some mittens for myself sooner or later, but not using this pattern because I want fingers.

Step by Step Sweater by Florence Miller

Project on Ravelry. I feel like everyone and their grandmother knit one of these this year. It was an easy pattern, even with the 2 "more difficult" modifications (folded collar and short row shaping). Certainly a good foray into garment-making but it did take me some 5 months to complete it!

I'm proud that after realizing I had chosen the wrong size, I frogged, did the math & casted on the correct size rather than keep going. At the time it made me very cranky but it was necessary.

And now, for the bad. I, once again, used 3.5 mm needles instead of 4 mm. The fabric is way too dense and the yarn (Mondial Merino Plus) is scratchy so I have to wear a long-sleeved t-shirt underneath

I wanted the collar to sit closer to the neck. I don't know if this wasn't the right pattern for that or if it's something I did wrong? But I see lots of sweaters online with this same problem.

The sleeves are too short. It's my fault as I ran out of black yarn so I had to improvise and do some sweater surgery to lengthen the other colours (as I didn't want to spend any more money on this) but they still ended up too short.

Lastly, it gave me clicker thumb and I had to take a month long break from knitting in order to recover so, yeah. Not a really fun knit.

Yarn: Mondial Merino Plus

COST: around 40€, I think

USAGE: only a couple of times but one of the sleeves has kind of started to unravel already in the sweater surgery bit. The yarn is quite scratchy so I have to wear a long-sleeved t-shirt with it.

FUTURE: I think it's fine as it is.

Headband with a twist by Mirella Moments

Project on Ravelry. I wanted a quick way to knit a hat and this seemed like a good choice. It came out pretty well: it fits perfectly and the twist makes it look classy and complicated but was actually so easy to knit. But unfortunately, it's not warm enough for the winter here. I will have to knit an actual hat after all!

Yarn: Mondial Merinos Extra

COST: nothing, yarn from stash.

USAGE: I wore it for a couple of weeks and I immediately got a colt. Sigh. Also, if I wear it for more than 15 min the yarn will start to feel scratchy on my forehead.

FUTURE: Will probably gift it to someone.

The socks

In chronological order, from the top left:

Vanilla Sock with Gusset & Choice of Heel by Jo Torr. My third attempt at sock-making. Yarn: Mondial Kim (6€).

Stolen Bike Socks by Monica S. My pride and joy. Photo taken before I bought sock blockers but really, they are excellent. Yarn: Mondial Kim (from stash).

Simple DK Shortie Socks by Woolfield. A gift that I had to make quickly. The gusset decreases go in the wrong direction but that's ok it became a design feature. Yarn: Schachenmayr Regia (8€).

Togetherness Socks by Little Home Designs. Wonderful stupendous, to die for. My second foray into cables I did have to make the toes a little longer but whatever. Yarn: West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4 Ply (£8.95).

Some conclusions

This year I knit 9 objects: 1 garment, 6 accessories, a random home object and 1 plushie. It's a lot more than I thought!

I think the reason why I felt that I didn't knit much this year was that I didn't focus on what I'm most interested in: sweaters and socks. I'm a product knitter. I knit because I need something. All of these things were useful, but one can never have too many socks and my sweater drawer is pretty miserable.

My 2024 knitting resolution: knit 2 sweaters + finish my Deborah cardigan before summer. Then another sweater in autumn. All the while, I'll be knitting as many socks as possible (not vanilla). I also need to knit a hat and a new power bank pouch, but those two are less urgent. I already have a ton of sock yarn (ok not quite but) and will purchase the other yarn after finishing the previous project.

Also, 3 of my projects were gifts. It's nice to knit gifts, but it takes a bunch of time and my wardrobe stays empty. At the end of the day, I'd rather knit for myself and tick something off my "want" list. No, I don't think that makes me selfish.

2024 resolution n2: No gift knitting at all.

Lastly, I hadn't realized that this year I knit almost entirely with Mondial yarn. Mostly because that's what my LYS carries and because I had it in stash from last year. In retrospect, I really don't like it. I find it scratchy, even the merino. But I do still have a fair bit left so I need to find ways to use it up. Perhaps the Mondial Merinos Extra would make decent socks?

New Year's Resolution part 3: Never buy Mondial yarn again.

AH omg i love this question!!!! ill just go down the list of them in chronological order :) (and add some ive been meaning to)

lowest ear lobe piercings: hes had these ones pierced since he was like,, 3 or 4 (his dad got them done when he still lived in colombia). they were just regular studs, but now they're the ones he changes out most often (he keeps them either as studs or very small hoops for work, but if he goes out for anything he'll put on some fun ones)

second ear lobe piercings: he got those ones done when he was 17. he had wanted them for a while, and his foster mom offered to take him as a birthday present. liyah went with too because she was all excited for him :) these ones were also just regular studs, but now he switches them occasionally. usually he leaves in a pair of black studs though

helix piercing: he got this one at the same time as the next one. this one was honestly just him wanting another piercing asdfghjk. he got it was when he was 18, almost 19, and cyrus got a matching one :) the one he got was a stud but the second he could, he changed it for a hoop and has had that in since

eyebrow piercing: again, he got this one at the same time (this one was the actual reason he went, the helix was just bc he could asdfghjk). he had wanted this one for a few months and finally decided to go get it bc uhh,, why not

industrial piercing: got this one when he was 19. he was a little bit worried about it rejecting and/or getting infected, since it's pretty common, but he just stayed really on top of cleaning and protecting it so he was all good :) this one didn't have a reason, he just really liked it asdfghjk

nipple piercings: one of my personal favs <3 he got these when he was 20, like peak band era, mainly due to cy and liyah suggesting that he should. it was kind of a joke since he asked what his next piercing should be, but the second they said it he knew he had to. over the years he gets a few different kinds, including rings, star shaped, and heart shaped ones besides the original barbell ones he got

tongue piercing: he took a break from getting piercings for quite a few years. he had kinda always wanted a tongue piercing, so it felt right to start again w that in med school (he was 24 when he got it) (this was also around the time where he took out the eyebrow piercing, so he needed to replace it w something asdfghjk)

daith piercing: he gets this one his second year at edenbrook (same ear as the helix). he literally just wanted another one and he thought that one was cool asdfghjk. he started w the usual starter one and, when it healed, changed to a star-shaped one

conch piercing: he gets this one at the start of third year. he wanted another one on the ear w his industrial to balance it out, and since he was taking bryce to get his pierced anyway, he figured it was a good time to do it

septum piercing: he gets this one after passing his boards :) it's another one he's kinda always wanted, so it felt right to do it as a celebratory thing

stacked ear piercings: he gets these on the ear w the helix (about 2 years after third year, so around 31). they're just cute little baby ones and he leaves the black ones in. bryce goes with for this one as well bc he gets a little nose stud (but he changes it out for a ring occasionally)

Hey anon ❤️ Happy to have you in my inbox again! As always, thanks for asking and for being interested in what I have to say! I apologize for the late reply, I didn't manage to watch the entire show up until today, but now I'm glad I did!

I'll list things off in chronological order and put most of it under the cut (since this is super long once again, especially the part about the main event, oops).

The first bit of Roman walking in… the way Paul flinched was hilarious, looks like Jey really did a number on him last week lol. If you don’t love Paul, I don’t know what you’re doing with your life.

I love seeing NXT superstars on other brands, especially if they’re really building up to RAW vs. Smackdown vs. NXT for Survivor Series once again (also loved that little backstage sequence with Jey later on the show, boy’s got people’s respect and I love that).

The Fatal 4-Way was a great entertaining match. I love Rey Mysterio, he’s one of the reasons I’ve been watching the product for such a long time and he’ll always be a fav, so I don’t mind him winning, as long as they have something bigger and better in store for LA Knight. I’m annoyed they keep using him for promos to get a crowd pop, but still make him lose all the damn time. He’s so over rn, they’d be stupid not to do something with that other than promo work. (LWO vs. LWO next week should be interesting though.)

Charlotte vs. Iyo didn’t really catch me, it was a solid match (and I loved Bayley on commentary, honestly the combo of Bayley, Cole and Wade is comedic gold). Something about the match just felt a little off to me. They’re both great in the ring, I guess something about their chemistry just wasn’t for me. Hate that Iyo lost. LOVE that Asuka got the last laugh.

That Roman, Solo, Paul backstage segment 👀 My killer baby loves staring at that Ula Fala a little too much these days and The Tribal Chief knows it. It was a 30-40 second segment maybe, no words spoken, but we saw everything we needed to see. Just hope they don’t fuck over Jey at Summerslam over this, but I’m fully expecting it at this point.

The Shotzi stuff is looking awesome!!! Maybe getting a good feud in the women’s division? We love to see it! (I love Shotzi and Bayley, so I’m even more excited, I hope they’ll come through.)

Still not gonna talk about Theory, but he lost HAHAHAHA (and that’s all I’m gonna say)

Dunno what they’re cooking with Lashley and company, but I’m intrigued for sure 👀 First the Street Profits, now Carmelo and Trick? Interesting, interesting.

The Dom Dom stuff is super entertaining to me. Him and Mami are simply an iconic duo and I hope they’re not gonna split these two up anytime soon. That being said, give Rhea a good feud on Mondays pls and thx!

I get why people are frustrated over the whole NXT North American Championship thing, especially since Solo didn’t get to keep it when he joined the main roster, but then again it’s WWE and they keep changing the rules all the time, so it’s not all that surprising that they’d be inconsistent like that. And like I said earlier, if they’re really building up towards NXT vs. Smackdown vs. RAW for Survivor Series, it’s a smart business move to have one of their most popular acts on all shows to attract viewership and have one of them carry a title to lift it up even further (and for people whining about The Draft - honestly that was never gonna stick for too long, it never has in the past, and it was mostly about having the World Titles on different shows if you ask me). I love seeing gold on Dom Dom and on Mami and I’ll leave it at that.

Pretty Deadly and that wheelchair scene. I was laughing so hard. These two are GOLD. Add Wade’s commentary on top of that. Yeah… I don’t want a segment like that for them every week, but this segment and this week? LOVED IT!

And now on to the main event:

Jey’s entrance was pure fire my god 🔥🔥🔥 Honestly, you don’t wanna know I many times I’ve rewatched that one. Man’s fired up!!!

Him not looking at nor acknowledging Roman for the entirety of his entrance, only giving him the side eye once he’s close? Proud of how far he's come <3

(Am I the only one missing Roman raising those titles on the ramp? No? Good.)

If looks could kill Jey would be cooked by now - just look at Solo during that entire entrance and the whole segment, holy moly. He rarely takes his eyes off of Jey. No love lost between these two. God they are phenomenal. He only looks away and starts thinking on his own when Jey mentions the Elders telling him to challenge Roman. Solo may have been sent for Roman’s protection, but we can’t forget that his loyalty lies with the Elders, seeing as they are the ones who sent him in the first place. If they doubt Roman’s leadership - oh boy…

Roman trying to intimidate Jey just like old times (“little Jey”) and Jey standing his ground. The way I yelled 🔥 And Roman thinking this is just gonna be any old match, that this is gonna be Clash of Champions and HIAC all over again. His arrogance is unmatched and I love the dawning realization of what’s really happening here, starting with his confusion the moment Jey rips up the contract and says with his whole chest “the contract’s in the blood” “this right here is Tribal Combat now” all the way up to the moment he asks Jey if the Elders know about this and finds out it was their idea. You see doubt creep in, but he’s still infuriatingly arrogant. Right up until the moment I’m truly living for - the second he realizes what’s really at stake here when Jey reiterates “I said… it’s Tribal Combat now” (the most powerful line that’s been said all night phew 😮‍💨). That’s when he knows Jey truly means business. And Paul immediately trying to stop him? CINEMA.

Jey Uso listing all the ways he’s gonna beat Roman’s ass while bouncing in his lil chair will never not be hilarious to me. It was such a deeply emotional segment and he still managed to put a light comedic moment into it. And that smile at the end of it? That wasn’t Roman, even though he weaved it into the Tribal Chief’s arrogance extremely well (just goes to show how good he is), nah that was Joe cracking a smile and you can’t convince me otherwise. These boys (Josh and Joe) are having the time of their lives and I’m very soft about that 🥹

With Roman leaving the Ula Fala on the Table and initiating the Hongi with Jey? Honestly, to me this felt like the moment Roman finally acknowledged that they’re gonna meet as equals in that ring for the first time. Not big cousin and little cousin, not Tribal Chief and Right Hand Man, not main eventer and Tag Team Guy. Just two men who want what’s best for their family, two guys who have grown into supernovas over the years, two men who are equal and have mutual respect for each other. Tribal Combat means the match was sanctioned by the Elders and that’s huge. These guys are gonna murder each other, but they’ll love and respect each other while doing so. This was the ultimate showing of respect for each other and their heritage. This was their contract signing and it’s more binding than any other contract could ever be. And it’s immediately proven when Solo tries to go after Jey and Roman stops him.

And while Jey immediately kicking Solo in the face, no hesitation, shocks Roman and shows him just how far Jey is willing to go, just how different his cousin is from the man he faced years ago, Jey is not breaking any rules. Roman realizes he’s pushed Jey too far one too many times.

Paul kneeling in the corner in absolute despair was a hilarious and glorious little detail! This whole thing would never be the same without Paul Heyman, backstage and in front of the cameras. That man just >>>>>

Another thing I found incredibly intriguing was the little conversation Paul and Roman had while leaving. They were so stunned by the fact that Jey was talking to the Elders. If you listen closely you can hear Paul say “he said it was the Elder’s idea” and Roman say something along the lines of “I’m the only one talking to the Elders”. The fact that Paul looks legitimately scared… What are they doing to us?

I might not like whatever outcome they have planned for Summerslam (if Jey isn’t winning and he isn’t gonna, I’m not gonna like it, simple as that), but the build-up to it is incredible and I’m enjoying every second!

For me it was a good episode overall!

1. how many works do you have on ao3? A measly 31. But in my defense, I’m ancient, so I have posted at least twice as many on LiveJournal back in the day.

2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 162,236

3. how many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Six are represented on AO3, including a mix of various RPF fandoms, Hannibal, Law and Order: SVU, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and recently Loki. But back in my teenage years I wrote fic in the Lord of the Rings fandom, Harry Potter, and as I got older even more diverse RPF, mostly centered around US political media and, uh... Top Gear. Look, I have a past, okay, leave me alone.

4. what are your top five fics by kudos?

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not? Almost always. If you took the time to comment, I will take the time to say thank you. Especially when I get the really juicy comments, like those that quote favourite lines and stuff. I love those comments, they’re so helpful!

6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I’m really bad at following through on angst, I wrap that shit up with a vaguely happy ending. That said, Control You is pretty bad. It’s also locked, because I lock RPF religiously. kill them; kill them with fire is technically still a WIP, so it doesn’t count, although it’s some of the angstiest fic I’ve written.

7. do you write crossovers? Not so much these days, but I used to

8. have you ever received hate on a fic? Oh yes, before the US Pundit fandom hid all the RPF away in secret, thoroughly locked LJ communities, there were some pretty ugly instances of hate going around.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind? Ahahaha, yes, I do. 23 of those 31 fics are rated E. And it was the same back on LJ.

10. have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.

11. have you ever had a fic translated? I’ve received requests for a couple of fics to be translated into Russian. I gave my permission, but I have no idea if they followed through with it.

12. have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes. Way back when I was 18 I had a 42 year old BFF from California who shared my brand of absurd humour and we co-wrote a sprawling 20K+ Pundit RPF comedy zombie AU, where we took turns writing the chapters as we went along, playing off what the other person had written in the previous chapter. I was a great experience, like the fic equivalent of improv comedy groups. An entire story based on ‘yes, and...’ as a concept.

13. what’s your all-time favorite ship? I can’t possibly answer that question, I’m a bit of a whore in this respect. I mix and match. Although judging from my AO3 account it’s ChillyWilly and Barisi, and it’s true that I love those ships.

14. what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? kill them; kill them with fire probably. It’s a ASOUE Zombie AU with stand-alone chapters focusing on different characters in different locations, but in a vaguely chronological order. Can you tell that I adore zombie AUs? Anyway, I was very proud of this one, because this particular zombie apocalypse is totally “realistic” in-universe. It takes an existing killer-fungus danger and replaces ‘certain death’ being the result of infection with ‘zombies’ being the result. So yes, it’s The Last of Us-style “zombies”. I actually stole the terminology from there as well, because I couldn’t be bothered with creating too much lore. I never care about the actual zombie horror anyway, I care about the human reaction to a deadly crisis.

15. what are your writing strengths? A writer I admired very much in ye olden days once told me that I was good at blending genres and moods organically, in those day it was combinations of action, humour, and smut. She then asked me, me, for advice on a fic. I still think about that every single time I feel down.

16. what are your writing weaknesses? Definitely a tendency for overly detailed, flowery, self-indulgently elaborate prose. I spent years forcing myself to use a plain ‘said’ more often, because God knows I struggled with the concept from the beginning. And commas. So many commas. I often joke that Ernest Hemingway would fucking deck me if he was alive and reading my stuff. Oscar Wilde would you rather discuss writing with? Case closed.

17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? I think it’s fine in controlled doses, especially if you consult native speakers to confirm that google translate isn’t about to make you look really silly to native speakers of the language in question.

18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for? Lord of the Rings, I think? At least in English. I was 14 when the first film came out, so it was around then. It was really bad. English is my second language, and my grammar... left something to be desired. Okay, technically I wrote fic for The Hobbit first, because our teacher was pretty cool when it came to assigning various writing challenges, and in this case he made us all write fanfic that should be a twist on the pretty anticlimactic (according to him) ending of the book. I proceeded to literally kill off half the dwarves in a gruesome Smaug-fight. Very indiscriminately, I might add. Completely random. Just piling up dead, scorched dwarves for shits and giggles.

19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written? Okay, bear with me here, but I’m just really proud of Young Police Cadet Bottoms for Busty Blonde. Probably the smuttiest smut I’ve ever written. I enjoyed every second of the writing process, I had a wonderful time, and it lives up to its title in terms of balls to the wall PWP insanity. A Guide to Recognizing Your Ghosts and Unfortunate Living Arrangements are also up there, because I’m still a Chilton fangirl at heart.

1/4/2023 DAB Chronological Transcription

Job 1 - 5

Welcome to Daily Audio Bible Chronological, I'm Jill. Today's the fourth day of January, welcome. Day four, you're here and man, what a good thing you are doing by being here, just showing up and allowing God to speak to your heart, to your soul, to your mind, into your spirit, through his word, to know and be known. That is the goal. And so well done on day four. On this journey of Chronological, let me first just offer another little explanation of why we do things the way that we do. At the end of this week, I will be done and my daughter China will take the mic and she will start a brand new week with a brand new translation. We will change translations of the Bible every week. That happens every Sunday. We do that because, well, one, it's hard to pick a whole translation for the entire year. And secondly, we do that because, well, we would normally not read different translations on our own. This causes us to hear things a little differently. When you hear things differently, it hits differently. It can leave a mark sometimes. And so we do that just to switch things up. And listen, there may be translations that you don't particularly like. Please stay with it. Please don't walk away because of a translation. We will eventually switch it again, but I promise you it might not be your preference, but it also might be what you need to hear, what God does need to speak and say to you. So that happens at the beginning of every new week. We change readers and we change translations. And that will begin this Sunday. We are reading the Bible in chronological order. So what that means is that we jump around in historical order as best as historians and theologians can tell, and we will go out of order. If you're following along in a regular Bible that is written book by book, Genesis to Revelation, and we're going to jump around in historical order. What that means for today is that we're taking a break from Genesis. We're just pausing it, we will come back to it and we're starting the Book of Job. Interestingly enough, the Book of Job is one of the oldest books of the Bible, and it's quite a story. And I certainly don't want to give too much away. But I'm going to tell you, it's going to get redundant and you have to stay with the story and it's going to get redundant. And you have to stay with the story and it's going to get redundant. But there are valid moments and teachable lessons that we can learn from that redundancy. So let's stay with the story and let's dive into Job. Today we're reading Job chapters one through five. And this week, for a few more days, we're in the New Living Translation, Job chapter one.

Commentary

If you really stayed with the story, I would just invite you, maybe even to pause the podcast. Give yourself a minute or two and see what you're wrestling with here. This is definitely a story where there's going to be some wrestling and it may even be in several different places and maybe even just right off the very top when Satan enters the presence of the Lord, because that part always kind of trips me up a little bit. We can feel so unworthy coming into the presence of God because we've lived with ourselves, we know exactly what we did wrong. And Diminishment has settled in and we have dehumanized ourselves from even coming and entering into worship with God. And here he allows Satan, okay, great, I'll take it. If he's worthy of entering, then I'm going to change my mindset and I'm coming in so we can just start there. Satan has allowed access to the presence of the Lord. And then, if I'm just being honest, I'm going to wrestle through this conversation that takes place between God and Satan. And then I'm going to pause there just for a second and say, I realized we didn't spend much time on him at the beginning of creation on day one. So if you have the time allotment, I would highly suggest going to the channel of Daily Audio Bible where Brian reads and listen through days one through three and his offering of the fall and the Old Testament reading on those days, the first through the third. Okay, that's the end of that little pause sidebar right there. Here's the last thing I'm going to comment on today. This story can be an example of the question that we so many times ask why do bad things happen to good people? And then as we go through this story over the course of the next days, you might hear every possible human emotion expressed and question that we wrestle with during grief. And then we're going to hear from Job's friends like we did today with Elephaz coming and replying to Job. I was listening to a commentary regarding the book of Job and it was exactly what I have thought before. Job's friends were good friends to him during grief until they opened their mouth. We already see the beginning of that here today. And in the words of my ten year old, it's going to get cringy, and then it's probably going to get extra cringy if we really stop and examine our own words and our own actions and think of the times that we thought we were doing a good thing by offering our perspective, offering our good meaning advice, such as chapter four, verse eight. My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same. We so many times enter into someone else's grief from our own unilateral perspective, thinking we're being helpful and we usually end up doing more harm than good. If I'm just being honest, this seems a good landing place for today. Because, like I said, going to be here for a bit and we're going to have to wrestle through some things. And so I want to say that wrestling through these parts of the Bible are completely welcomed here. Maybe, sadly, you have been in an environment where the questions and the wrestling are not welcomed and you've been shamed for it. And that saddens me greatly. It's also part of my story, being in church culture my entire life. So I want to validate that. I think it's a really necessary part of our faith. And secondly, I want to offer you room and the space to do that. And this story of Job will not be an isolated wrestling match. There will be other parts of scripture that you may or may not have to wrestle through. And really the best place to do that is with God himself and ask Him your questions and take them to Him. Second really good place is a journal. And a third great place is a safe friend, someone who will not shame you and someone who doesn't know all of the answers, because who does? And maybe even someone who just will listen to you and hear you, which, ironically, is what Job could have used in this story. So questions? Yep. Wrestling? Absolutely. And am I sure? I sure am.

Prayer

So, Father, we thank you for your word today. We thank you that you are safe. We thank you for this safe place that you have provided for so many, including myself, to hear your word, to sit with your word. To you make space for your word and allow our hearts to feel what rises up and to sit with that emotion and to invite you into it, to come and to speak. And even when it gets hard, Father, when we hear hard things that make us cringe because we hear our own words and we see our own actions that we have maybe been not so proud of and even been ashamed of and don't really know what to do with that shame and that regret thinking that we can offer that to you. You cause us to change, to make a different movement going forward the next time, which is repentance, to bring that to you, to lay it at your feet and to do differently next time. So as we walk through this story of Job and we hear the words that might be difficult, I pray that your Holy Spirit would be part of this process of listening and that the Holy Spirit would come and comfort, counsel us, guide us into all truth. I thank you that you hear this prayer and you hear your people and you do not meet us with shame or condemnation, but with grace, mercy, love, compassion, conviction, compel us to change. We pray this now in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Hi, my name is Debbie. I'm calling for the first time. I've been listening to the Daily Audio Bible Chronological for a couple of years now, but I've been pretty inconsistent, and this is the first time that I've been able to catch the podcast in real time, and for that I'm grateful. I just asked to be lifted up in prayer right now. I'm pregnant at 22. I moved to Washington State from California exactly one year ago today, and I'm completely isolated. I have no friends, I'm highly agoraphobic and unemployed, so I haven't gone out in a while and I'm extremely depressed. My studio apartment is a mess, and I can't find strength or motivation to do anything. I try to take my life on Christmas from all the loneliness, and I just don't know how to love myself. I don't know what to do now that I'm pregnant. Though the father of this child is very supportive, I push him away because I don't know how to receive love, because I don't love myself. I pray, Lord I ask that people can pray for me so I may be able to strengthen my release.

Thank you, Daily Audio Bible Chronological for being there for me 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You are such a blessing in my life. Your encouragement through the teachings and your commentaries and the prayer requests and praise reports of and comments of the people who call in are such a blessing to me and in such an encouragement. Can I tell you something? I literally had no idea that Johnny Tambourine and Saul were both portrayed by Josh Gardner until I found myself, for the first time ever, curious about the actor portraying Johnny Tambourine. Like, it never even crossed my mind that it could be the same guy. Not sure if this means Josh Gardner is a gifted performer or if I’m just really unobservant.

Okay so the plot of this one is basically: Clancy is having trouble reaching King Johnny Tambourine, who is a born goofball. It seems that Bertram has charmed him thoroughly, and wants Johnny to sign a contract for Project Thunderhole, a hole so huge that they’ll never have to dig another hole ever again. He plans to dig this hole UPWARDS, which is currently forbidden by Mole Man law.

Meanwhile Saul is rotting in jail, having a terrible time. There’s a bit where his cellmate freaks him out by popping his own eyes out, screaming while blood sprays out the sockets, only to have them regenerate within seconds. Saul is eventually sprung for his trial, which is just him dressed like Sean Connery in Zardoz facing off with a big scary razor-toothed worm wearing a powdered judge wig. If he gets eaten, he’s guilty. If he doesn’t, he’s innocent. Just as the worm grabs hold of Saul, we learn that Bertram needs a licensed and bonded geologist to sign off on Project Thunderhole, which Johnny points out that Saul, in fact, is one. End episode.

The big comedy ideas here come off as random humor and it’s not very satisfying. The eye regeneration bit does nothing for me. It only annoys me, it’s audaciously clownish and violent, and I find myself wondering if the show thinks I’m dumb enough to laugh at it just because it’s weird and out of left field. I’m not sure why this joke offends my sensibilities, and I’m not sure why I don’t call what Tim & Eric do “random humor”, but this just doesn’t sit right to me.

I remember I worked on a local independent comedy pilot, and there was a character in the show whose whole thing was that they’d check in on him on a security camera in an adults-only part of a store, and he’d be doing something different each time. I remember the go-to example the producer always gave was “he’d be in there eating a dead body or something”. It’s that kind of joke: It’s funny because it’s over-the-top and violent, never mind that it’s completely unmotivated. I associated this show (and Young Person’s Guide) with drawing from that well way too often. I hated it!

There is another bit where Myelocytes perform for King Johnny. In case you aren’t aware of what myelocytes are, here’s an excerpt from wikipedia:

Numerous cytoplasmic granules are present in the more mature forms of myelocytes. Neutrophilic and eosinophilic granules are peroxidase-positive, while basophilic granules are not.

Man, I fucking hate science.

I never did see that, but I heard about it when it happened! Since we’re covering stuff here in chronological order, it’ll be a little while to get around to covering that one, but I WILL cover it! :)

Saul always struck me as a compromised vision and the unaired pilot sorta proves it. There is a better-realized, more interesting vision there than what ended up on the show. It feels like Adult Swim saw the pilot and said "we like it! But can you make it for [insanely low budget]? And can you crank out 20 immediately?" They said yes, but the answer was no.

It's me with more Saul talk... I pinpointed the difference between the Saul pilot and series for me... the pilot feels more like a twisted, adult version of a children's show, while the series just feels like a poorly-done adult show.

Something to think about. I did watch the pilot and I do think it looked better in general, but I think I still prefer the first aired version of episode one.

I genuinely wonder if the reason they let Tim & Eric crank out 30 episodes in such a short period of time was because they realized how much more they could do with similar production values and realized they backed the wrong garbage-making horse?

Who would you like to see replace Trevor Noah at the Daily Show. Don't worry about the direction of the show since he took over, pick your dream choice no matter unlikely.

Week Five - Class Content + Project Development

This week in class we had a quick lecture and tutorial, and then had the rest of the class to apply the techniques to our own work. The lecture was focused on colour and composition, where different ways of using the colour wheel to create palettes were explored. Colour use in design helps to create coherence between design assets. It needs to be relevant to the work and the audience.

The concept of hue, saturation, and brightness was discussed, which was important for understanding the different types of colour palette. Using https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel I created some examples of different palettes

This monochromatic colour theme uses yellow as a main colour along with black and white. Yellow Is used extensively to create and reinforce a positive and playful tone. The one colour works really well for the tone of the project.

The blue colour works really well as an accent colour as it contrasts really well with the white colour. The palette is very simple and restrained.

These works use very simple colour themes. Typically the works use one colour predominantly, one colour slightly less, and one as an accent. The illustrations use the 60/30/10 ratio really well. The bottom picture uses a nice split complementary palette.

This design system for the Irish Museum of Literature uses a simple analogous colour palette of blue and green tones. Despite the wider range of colours, the palette still appears cohesive due to the similar tones.

The tutorial focused on preparing a file for print, covering techniques to check errors and export properly. It covered non-destructive techniques to ensure that the document is ready for final print, such as using the find and replace function and style overrides. As well as this, ensuring images are displayed within the effective PPI is another important step to check before printing. With physically printed outcomes, it is very important that all mistakes have been identified and corrected prior to print. It is practically impossible to correct mistakes after print in the industry where many copies are printed.

Brochure Development

After the lecture and tutorial, we were given time to work on our projects. I used this time to check through the preflight for any errors, look for small copy errors like double spaces, and correct paragraph style overrides. I also corrected other errors I noticed. I had to swap Veronika and Carol’s panels around to fix the chronological order. When I did this, I didn’t like how the designer’s photos were arranged in an ordered pattern, so I changed the layouts to make it look more randomised.

As well as this, I also added a missing label to the map, and made some minor adjustments to the layout. I think this panel will need a bit more refinement as it doesn’t fit with the other panels as cohesively as I would like.

Schedule Design

In this time, I started to work on the schedule table for two top panels. Initially, I struggled with working on the table as the editing methods and table options are tools I am not very familiar with. After some trials, I made some adjustments to column and row numbers to find a way I could place all the information into the table clearly. I ended up using 4 columns and 12 rows to make the table, using alternating strokes to reduce the amount of visible lines.

I am quite happy with the outcome considering I hadn’t created a table from scratch before. The tools discussed in the tutorial a couple of weeks ago were very helpful, but the way I learn best is by doing and experimenting this way so I am now more confident in my table skills. I do want to explore this further as I don’t think the layout is clear enough to be finalised. I want to work more with laying out the times and locations if the events as they are a bit random with no clear hierarchy. As well as this, I want to include the words keynote and workshop so that the audience can differentiate between the two.
