a/n - this will likely be the last daily update for now - i have 3 more chapters written so far but i like to keep on top in case i end up falling ill so i don't leave y'all without a chapter for a whole week! - next update will likely be friday (or thursday if i have a lot of motivation!)

Y/N was relieved to be back in the apartment, where it was mostly quiet. Just the sounds of the street outside the window that never closed properly could be heard.

She grabbed the remote, deciding the TV was the most obvious thing to use to entertain her new guest. While she and Kyle had bonded over their mutual disdain for the club, she didn’t know much else about him.

She flicked the power button a few times, groaning in realisation. “Andddd… The TV is broken again!” She put the remote down on the side and tried to unplug and replug the TV in, but it didn’t help. “Clyde has been here one day, and he’s already done something to it.”

“How old is that thing?” Kyle looked in slight awe at the TV. It was one of the first models of ‘flatscreen’ TVs, but it was still three times the width of any TV for sale in stores in the present day.

“It was Bebe’s grandma’s. It got 10 whole channels, but we managed to rig a fire tv stick up to it,” Y/N explained, trying the remote one last time. “Unfortunately, I’m afraid that is all we have in the way of guest entertainment. That is unless you fancy taking a look at Bebe’s gossip magazine collection that has taken over the coffee table?”

“I’ll pass, I think?” Kyle laughed awkwardly, looking down at the selection. “As tempting as it is to find out… Which Kardashian has the most expensive nose?”

“That leaves two options that I can think of. You can crash in the spare bed in what was Wendy’s room until they return from clubbing,” She gestured down the hall to the open door to the room that had once been Wendy’s room. It now only housed a double bed and an empty dresser. “Or you can join me in my room while I watch a nature documentary, and we can do sudokus together?”

“Definitely living up to the party animal part of the party-hating party animal title.” Kyle teased, but she could tell he wasn’t genuinely making fun of her. “I mean, a nature documentary? Sudokus? What a wild night.”

“We could watch something else if that’s too hardcore for you? Maybe do a word search or spot the difference instead?”

“I think I can just about handle it. I’ll let you know if it is too much for me.”

“I don’t have a couch in my room. You don’t feel awkward sitting on the bed, do you?”

“What is a bed but just a longer couch?”

“Wow! I didn’t realise I was in the presence of such a magnificent philosopher!” Y/N laughed, leading the way to her room. She was glad that Kyle was open to joking around with her, as it made the fact that they would be spending the following hours together a little less awkward.

She opened the door to her bedroom, glad she had cleaned up a little the day before since it had been a bit of a mess. There were still textbooks everywhere and about five mugs on the side that she swore she would take to the kitchen to clean, but that was about it. Her bed was even made for once. “Whales or birds?”

“Birds,” Kyle decided after a second of consideration.

“That is absolutely the correct choice!” Y/N grinned. She jumped onto her bed, lunging over it to grab the remote control. She scooted over to the side so Kyle could sit next to her, which he did, leaving a respectful amount of space in between them. She pulled the multiple sudoku books from her bedside table drawer and laid them out on the bed, grabbing a couple of the pens she had on the side.

“You don’t actually have to do any sudokus if you don’t want to,” She clarified, picking up the one she had last been working on and flipping to the next empty one. “My phone charger is next to you if you need it.”

“Thanks, I’m on 5%,” He leaned over the side of the bed to retrieve the charger and plug his phone in. “Honestly, I’d rather do a sudoku than anything else,” He admitted, picking up one of the books and flipping to the next free page. Y/N turned on the documentary about birds that she had planned to watch, and they sat in peaceful quiet. She knew she had made the right choice leaving with Kyle, and she didn’t for a single second regret suggesting that he came back to hers while the others enjoyed the rest of the night.

The buzzing of her phone in her bra startled Y/N awake. She had to blink her eyes a few times to register her surroundings. Feeling a weight on her shoulder, she turned her head to see that Kyle had fallen asleep as well, resting his head on her.

She didn’t want to wake him, so she tried to move carefully and gently to pull her phone out and check why it buzzed. She was met with a text from Bebe.

bebe 💋 : weere on way howme now b 10 mins

bebe 💋 : wend and stan r going to stay at oirs in old room

bebe 💋 : so skyle will have to satay or get cab home allone

Y/N could barely make out the words Bebe was typing but just about managed to translate that Wendy and Stan would be staying in Wendy’s old room, so Kyle would either have to stay over or get a cab home by himself.

She turned her head again to look at the sleeping boy on her shoulder. Would he want to go home? Where would he sleep if he stayed? She would probably let him stay like that on her shoulder all night had the impending interruption from the others coming home not been looming in the distance; he looked so peaceful.

She checked the time, it was 1am, but she was starving.

Satisfied with that answer, she set her phone down on the bed.

“Kyle?” Y/N carefully nudged her shoulder to try and wake him up in the most gentle way she could so as not to startle him. It worked as he slowly lifted his head and yawned.

“Sorry for falling asleep,” He mumbled, yawning a second time. He had the slightest red tinge on his face as he realised he had been resting against her.

“No worries, I did too,” She confessed, now yawning herself. “Bebe just texted, and there has been a change of plans. Wendy and Stan are staying in Wendy’s old room tonight, so you can either stay here or get a cab home by yourself?” She didn’t particularly like the idea of him getting a cab home alone at that time of night, particularly if he would be returning to an empty apartment.

“Where would I sleep?” He asked. She could tell he didn’t really want to go back to his apartment alone.

“The couch hurts like hell, but that’s an option, or you can just sleep in here,” She shrugged, sitting up properly as she realised the dress had ridden up in her sleep, and she was a small movement away from accidentally flashing him. She tried to casually pull it down as much as possible. “I don’t mind. We’ve already proved we can both sleep here, and you don’t seem like a creep.”

“Thanks, neither do you… I’ll stay here,” He nodded sleepily, sitting himself up with her. “Do you know if Clyde has any clothes I can change into? These jeans are uncomfortable to sleep in. My legs feel dead.”

“I don’t know how much of his stuff Clyde has moved in yet, or where it would be,” Y/N swung her legs over the bed and stood up, stretching a little. “I probably have something; hold on.”

“Your dress is- uh-“ Kyle stuttered a little and diverted his attention to the ceiling to avoid looking at Y/N’s exposed behind.

“Shit, I am so sorry,” She sighed, trying to pull the dress down to cover her again. “This is Bebe’s dress. I’m not used to it.”

“No worries,” He looked at her again once it was safe, watching as she crossed the room and rifled through her dresser, pulling a couple of pairs of sweatpants and a few t-shirts out.

“Take your pick,” She threw them onto the end of the bed. “My mom wanted to throw my older brother’s clothes out when he went travelling, but I just repopulated my wardrobe with them.” Kyle grabbed some at random, as did Y/N. She usually wore the hand-me-downs to sleep. “Bathroom is down the hall, and it’s the first door to the left.”

Kyle made his way to the bathroom slowly and sleepily. He got changed into the borrowed clothes that were just slightly too big on his slim frame but very comfortable. They were perfect to sleep in. Once changed, he found his way back to Y/N’s room, where she was pulling her shirt on.

“Sorry!” He diverted his eyes again, realising he’d waltzed in unannounced while she was changing.

“I accidentally flashed my whole ass at you a minute ago because of that scrap of fabric Bebe calls a dress, don’t worry about it,” Y/N laughed, grabbing a wipe to rid herself of the makeup Bebe had put on her. It had smudged a little in her sleep, the eyeliner and mascara pooling under her eyes, making her look more tired than she already felt. “They’re going to order some food in when they get here. You hungry?”

“Starving,” Kyle nodded, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “Any idea where from?”

“We always pretend to look at the options for five minutes before deciding on that burger place Kenny works for,” She explained, tying her hair back to keep it out of her face. “The fries are so greasy but so good. We’re lucky we get a friends and family discount with the amount we spend in there.”

“Kenny stops by with food from there on game nights. It’s the best,” He agreed with a small smile.

The sound of a key struggling to unlock the front door rang through the apartment before the 4 friends stumbled in.

“Whooo! Let’s keep this party going!” Clyde cheered loudly, still clutching what appeared to be a bottle of beer, spilling a bit on himself either without noticing or without caring.

“Shh!” Y/N left her room to greet them, followed closely by Kyle. “We have enough noise complaints from the neighbours as it is!”

“And who’s fault is that?” Bebe asked, looking at Y/N smugly. She didn’t seem as drunk in person as she was over text, but Bebe was great at putting on a poker face.

“My one-woman opera in the shower has had many five-star reviews,” Y/N joked. “It’s not my fault our neighbours have no taste.”

“I thought you were being murdered and almost broke the door down,” Stan seemed slightly more sober than the rest of the group but still out of it. He must not have drunk as much after they had left.

“You wouldn’t know true art if it hit you in the face!” She retorted.

“Yes, I-” Wendy cut Stan off before he could finish what he was saying.

“Don’t!” She held him back. “You’re just asking her to slap you in the face… Again.”

“That was one time!” Y/N protested. “And he baited me into it.”

“You’re staying?” Bebe pointed at Kyle, changing the subject. He nodded in confirmation. She looked him up and down, recognising the clothes to be Y/N’s. A sly smile crossed her lips. “What have you two been up to?” The implications were clear in her voice, but Y/N decided to brush them off without even openly acknowledging them.

“We watched a nature documentary, did sudokus, and then fell asleep until you texted,” Y/N shrugged, knowing that telling the truth would be the best option. Even drunk, Bebe could spot a lie from a mile away. “Did you know that there is a bird in Papua, New Guinea that’s poisonous?”

“The Pitohui,” Kyle added. Y/N smiled at him, happy he had actually paid attention and absorbed some knowledge.

Clyde and Stan whispered something to one another, dissolving in fits of giggles at whatever it was. Y/N knew better than to engage and just ignored them. “Okay, everyone, get your food orders written down somewhere while I grab water and aspirin for you all.”

“Thanks, Mom!” Stan said sarcastically.

“Fine, then you can suffer,” She rolled her eyes and disappeared to the bathroom to grab the aspirin. She returned to the shared kitchen living space to see that Kyle had already started to get water for everyone. “I have rehydration things somewhere around here.” She mumbled, looking through the cupboards until she found what she was looking for.

“Are you guys seeing this?” Stan pointed at the pair as they prepared the rehydration drinks and aspirin. “This is why I said they needed to meet up. They’re both totally lame.”

“Staniel, we can hear you,” Y/N sighed, grabbing a glass in either hand and passing one to Stan and one to Wendy while Kyle did the same for Bebe and Clyde. “Drink this, take these, thank us later when you only feel slightly shit in the morning instead of completely shit.”

“Have you ordered the food yet?” Clyde groaned, slouching on the sofa. “I’m so hungry.”

“You haven’t given me your orders yet,” Y/N pointed out, but Bebe waved her phone around.

“I started a group chat, and they are in there,” She announced, collapsing on top of Clyde on the couch. “It’s called best friends because that’s what we are.” Y/N sighed and made her way to her room to grab her phone, as she had left it on the bed after Bebe texted her on their way home. Kyle trailed after her, having left his own phone on charge in there.

Y/N checked her messages to see a new group chat had indeed been made and was already flooded with poorly spelt food requests. She assumed the one number she didn’t have saved was Kyle’s, so she quickly saved it under ‘kyle 📗’.

“Here, just add what you want,” She passed her phone over to Kyle after she had input everyone else’s requests. He flicked through and added what he wanted, passing it back to her with a smile.

“Mind if I stay in here while we wait for the food?” He asked, looking over at the door to make sure it was closed. “When Clyde is drunk, he’s a little….”

“Loud? Annoying? More so than usual?” Y/N suggested the descriptions. Kyle nodded a little hesitantly. “Stay in here all you like, dude. I’m staying here as well if that’s okay with you?”

“It’s your room,” He laughed a little. “You don’t have to ask if it's okay with me.”

“Yeah, well, you’re the guest,” She shrugged in response, sitting down on her bed. Kyle followed suit, sitting down next to her. He was so careful in his movements, as if he was worried he was doing something wrong. If Y/N had to be honest, it was a little cute. “I’d bet $10 on Clyde passing out before the food even gets here.”

“I’ll add another $10 for Stan passing out too.”

⚠️Long Post Alert⚠️

Alright I've seen a lot of (negative) buzz around Disney's new show "Primos" so I'm gonna put my 2 cents in

According to the Primos wiki, the show is about "Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences."

FIRST, it's yet ANOTHER piece of children's media about the main character + their large Latin American family.

Upon doing some research apparently this show is about the creator's personal experiences, which okay valid. But when creating media that meant to represent a community it would be better to offer a DIFFERENT perspective rather than give us the same trope that has been done to DEATH.

And I'm gonna be real with yall, I LOVE Coco and Encanto, but both movies also fall under this trope. Not all Latin American families live with their extended family, we don't need ANOTHER piece of media perpetuating the stereotype.

Also, Disney has been putting out a few shows on Disney Channel and Disney Junior that are clear knock offs of Nickelodeon shows. Some examples:

And...hm....lemme think....a kids TV show about a Mexican girl and her quirky large Mexican family getting into some Mexican™️ shenanigans...where have I seen that before...?

Yeah the premises are slightly different, but it's essentially the same trope so already right off the bat Primos feels like a knock off version of The Casagrandes.

SECOND, there are many stereotypes already present in the series just from tbe opening theme. Many of the cousins fall into stereotypes themselves, particularly the names. Some the names of the cousins are Gordita, Big Nacho, Nachito, and Cookita. I've seen people justify the use of these names by saying many Latin Americans are given these names as nicknames, which is true. But then again, having a characters named Nacho and Gordita in a show that's supposed to be about LatAm representation is just in bad taste. It's giving "Marco Diaz from Star vs. the Forces of Evil being half Mexican and being obsessed with nachos for some reason but not representing his Latino heritage in any other way other than him wearing that Day of the Dead themed costume in The Blood Moon Ball ep." It feels lazy, and of course, stereotypical.

On TOP of this, the word "Cookita" in many LatAm countries is slang for pussy and the suffix "-ita" means small. And the character with this name is the BABY. So yeah maybe naming the B A B Y character something that to many Spanish speakers means "little pussy" in a show ABOUT Spanish speaking Latin Americans probably isn't the wisest decision.

Another detail people have been pointing out leans into negative Mexican stereotypes is the use of the "yellow filter".

Now I'm gonna be real and say I'm not 100% convinced about the yellow filter being used here. The show takes place over the summer, so the use of yellow might may be used to give the feeling of how hot it is, but I can totally see why Latin Americans would find this offensive.

Also the name "Terremoto Heights" has been heavily criticized. Terremoto means "earthquake" in Spanish and the earthquakes are common in LatAm countries. Then again, show takes place in LA, where a lot of earthquakes occur too. So Im not 100% convinced that this is flat out racist either, but it's definitely in poor taste.

THIRD, the thing that is being SLAMMED at the most, is the improper Spanish grammar and the creator's response to people pointing it out.

In the theme song, the phrase "¡Oye! Primos" is used a lot, which means "Hey cousins!" The issue with this phrase is that "Oye" means hey but in the singular tense, and "Primos" is plural. If you plug in "¡Oye! Primos" to Google translate you'll get Hey Cousins regardless, but in Spanish the phrase is not grammatically correct. In order for it to be grammatically correct the phrase would either need to be changed to "¡Oigan! Primos", "oigan" being the plural word for Hey, or "¡Oye! Primo" and make primo singular. People have been telling this to the creators of the series and well...they haven't exactly been taking it well.

Here's what the voice actress of the main character Tater, Myrna Garcia Velasco said her on social media (Instagram I think, I could be wrong) in response to the bad Spanish:

(If you can't listen to it I'll just summarize. Velasco says that Spanish is the language of the Spanish conquistadors and the only reason why Latinos are LATIN American and not indigenous is because of the Spanish, and to stay mad if you think her incorrect Spanish is an issue. She also brings up how they're "trying to make a good show" for kids who "don't have a grasp on any language" or something?? Idk that's pretty much what she's saying")

Basically this response doesn't make any fucking sense. "Spanish isn't our original language so it doesn't matter if I speak it correctly or not. I'm a NATIVE Mexican so it doesn't matter if I speak Spanish correctly or not"

???????

Girl what the fuck does this mean??? News flash, but the majority of Latin America has been speaking Spanish for CENTURIES. You go to Mexico or most other Latin American countries and you'll find them speaking SPANISH. Yes it's because of the Spanish but it's part of our culture now whether you like it or not. It's like saying "oh it doesn't matter if I speak English correctly or not cause English isn't the US' ORIGINAL language anyway" ?????

Now, the story IS about a mixed kid. Tater is half white half Mexican, so if Tater is a Latina girl who doesn't know Spanish fluently (otherwise known as a "No-Sabo" kid), then the imperfect Spanish would make sense. If the idea behind Primos is to represent the Latin American kids who don't speak Spanish, then yeah thats fine and it was a directoral choice. But judging by Velasco's response, that doesn't seem like thats the idea?? She immediately got defensive and brought up the Spanish colonizers?? Which is relevant??? HOW???

On top of that, one member of the creative team, (not 100% sure who) called someone a "Grammar N@zi" for pointing out the grammatical errors and, well...

That's def not helping their case.

How the HELL are you gonna make show about a Spanish speaking Latin American family and NOT SPEAK SPANISH PROPERLY??? How the HELL are you gonna start beef with SPANISH SPEAKERS over whether or not it's important to speak Spanish CORRECTLY when portraying SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE IN MEDIA??? Yes slang exists, yes different LatAm countries speak Spanish differently, but grammar still exists??

OVERALL: Do I think Primos is this horribly racist dumpster fire? No. Are there MANY choices in this show that are just in poor taste? Absolutely 100%. Are the responses from the creative team outta pocket? Yes of course.

If you ask me, I think the main reason why people are so outraged over Primos is because the stereotypes and tropes are tired and dated, and people KNOW what writers are capable of. The response of this teaser, sandwiched between The Owl House ending and the premier of Across the Spiderverse, which have STELLAR LatAm rep, is proof of that. Luz Noceda, Miles Morales and Miguel O'Hara are SHINING examples of good SPANISH SPEAKING LatAm representation in children's media. We CAN have good LatAm protagonists in mediation, we've SEEN IT. We don't need all the stereotypes and overused tropes, so it makes sense why so many LatAm people feel like Primos is offensive and a step backwards.

Chapter 10: Press Play

The apartment is too quiet as they step back inside. The subtle creak of the floor causes Scully to freeze and scan the room, panning back and forth with federal agent instincts.

No one is there. There’s only the low gurgle of the fish tank and Mulder’s abandoned coffee cup sitting on the table. She lets out a shaky breath and walks fully into the living room, her partner following behind her. He offers no clever commentary on her jumpy entrance.

His face devoid of any expression, he reaches out to slip the VHS tape from her hands. Then he turns to his TV, leans over and presses eject on the VCR, checking to see if it is empty.

“Not in the middle of watching anything else?” she asks, half-heartedly trying to lure him into familiar banter. She sits delicately on the couch. “Your film tastes have changed?”

He glances back at her, then at the VCR, pressing the tape in. “Depression and grief did a number on my sex drive,” he says. He stands and picks up the remote from the top of the TV. “And before that, I was in a fairly new relationship. So I guess I got a little out of the habit.”

“I was just teasing, Mulder,” she says, embarrassed.

He walks over to sit next to her, his weight slightly displacing the couch cushions under her legs. “You’re anxious about watching,” he notes.

“Yes, of course.” She carefully readjusts her sitting position. “This could be something … difficult to hear.”

He nods, and reaches out to cover her hand with his. “Ready?”

Her head bobs up and down in affirmation.

He withdraws his hand, lifts the remote control and presses play.

It starts abruptly, unprofessionally, with scraping sounds and someone’s hands visible as they adjust the camera, then a jostling until it’s resting somewhere more steady. A trim torso retreats away from the camera.

It’s Diana Fowley, dressed in a black suit and looking as coolly beautiful and sophisticated as Scully remembers.

Scully pinches her lips together and refuses to look over at Mulder. She doesn’t want to see his expression, doesn’t want to learn anything from it.

Agent Fowley is sitting on the edge of the bed in what looks like an all-white hotel room, some place minimalist and luxurious and modern. Her mouth is drawn. Her eyes dart around as though she is looking for something. Looking for what? Scully wonders.

Fowley clears her throat. Looks at the camera.

“Fox. I’m taking a risk in getting this message out,” she says in a low voice. “I thought it was worth it nonetheless. So you’d understand a little more about why things played out the way they did.”

Scully inhales sharply before she can stop herself. She feels foolish for not anticipating that Fowley would be talking to Mulder. There’s history between them, after all. A history that Scully knows alarmingly little about.

Fowley looks down, as if considering her words, then looks straight at the camera. “I can’t defend all of my actions. I know you’ll never be able to understand what’s driven me to work for the people I work for, to make the choices I’ve made. I’ll tell you that I didn’t do it for money or power. I did it on principle. At least … originally.”

In Scully’s peripheral vision she becomes aware of Mulder leaning closer to the screen.

“This situation—with Agent Scully—was a personal project for me. Carried out using the resources of my position but … outside of official channels.” Agent Fowley frowns. “That’s probably why things didn’t go as smoothly as I’m used to. There were a few more hiccups than I expected.”

Scully’s nausea roars back to life. She wonders what constitutes a hiccup in Agent Fowley’s eyes. That seems like an extremely important question.

“I knew there was going to be a baby,” Fowley says, uncrossing and recrossing her long legs. “The biological child of you and Agent Scully. There was interest in the baby from multiple parties. The baby could potentially have unique abilities, due to the unique circumstances of… Well. The baby was going to be of interest.”

Lightning quick, Fowley’s eyes shift to her left. Her attention is caught for a moment. A shadow flickers across her face. Then she turns back to the camera.

Something seems to soften around her eyebrows. “It was only going to be a matter of time before they took the child, Fox,” she says. “Or before you had to take drastic measures.”

Now Scully does look at Mulder, fear abruptly seizing her. Unique abilities. Took the child. Drastic measures. His eyes latch onto hers, and she can practically see his mind racing.

“I realized I could potentially protect the baby,” Fowley is saying. Scully turns back to the screen, willing herself to stay calm and listen. “I had significant technological resources at my disposal. And if the baby’s birth could be better timed—well, I suspected some of the problems might resolve themselves. Interest in the child could wane.”

She smiles a tight-lipped smile. “I believe I was correct,” she says softly. “Now by the time the child is born, circumstances should be safer.” She sighs, looks away. “But it’s been… imperfect.”

“Imperfect. What does she mean by that?” Scully says sharply. Mulder shakes his head, his gaze on the TV.

Fowley is looking mournfully at the camera again. “I know you suffered, Fox, thinking Agent Scully was dead.” Fowley licks her lips. “I didn’t want that. It was the only way I could think to do this. I had to convince … some parties that Scully had died. Parties who are fortunately no longer a concern.”

Almost no real information, Scully thinks hopelessly. Vague statement after vague statement.

“I know I’ve done so much to deceive you,” Fowley’s voice is breathy now, low, earnest. “My work required it of me, and I’m good at it.” She leans in towards the camera.

“But I want you to know, Fox, that my feelings for you were real, both when we were together years ago and… more recently. That’s why I did this. Saved the child, kept Scully safe. I did it for you.”

Diana stands up and moves towards the camera, and the video ends.

Mulder looks stricken, staring at the scrambled snow and static on the screen now. It gives his face an unnatural, sickly sheen. Scully reaches over and takes the remote, turning it off.

She turns to face him swiftly. “Do you believe her?”

A long beat. “I don’t entirely trust her,” Mulder replies. “She could definitely be trying to mislead us. But about her feelings for me?” He runs his hand across his mouth, leaning back on the couch. “I don’t know. I could believe that part. I think she could have done something like this out of … misplaced affection for me.”

Scully nods slowly, and she also leans back against the couch. She tries to think through what this means: that Fowley may have tried to save this still-very-abstract baby, that her own temporary removal from life was all to that end. But her mind won’t stay on that road of thought. She’s distracted by the other painful little ideas pulling at her.

She regards Mulder, taking in his posture, his expression. He’s obviously thinking hard about something.

“You and Agent Fowley were close recently?”

His attention turns towards her. “Sort of,” he says. “She was put on the X-files when we were assigned elsewhere, so she consulted with us… with me.”

Scully nods, bracing herself. He hadn’t quite answered the question. “Were you together?”

“Not really,” he says. Now his eyes don’t meet hers.

“Not really meaning … not at all?”

“Scully,” he says wearily. “We’ve been through this.”

“I haven’t,” she says icily.

“We slept together,” he says, as if repeating by rote. “We slept together not long after she was assigned to the X-files. Just once, and not again. It was a mistake.”

“This happened after the time in the hallway.”

“Yeah,” he says, “but this is something that—”

“After you tried to kiss me,” she interrupts. “You slept with her after that.”

“Yes,” he says, watching her. “That’s right. This is something you already know—something we’ve already talked about.”

Scully nods quickly again, trying unsuccessfully to keep her expression neutral. “When we talked about this, was I upset? Did learning this … hurt me?”

He takes a moment to respond. “Yes. It did.” His eyes continue to study her. “Does it hurt you now, Scully?”

“What do you think?” she says with calm precision.

A tiny crease between his eyes. His apparent confusion just makes her angry.

“If what she says is true, Mulder, Fowley took away a year of my life and three years of my memories. And she says she did it because she has some connection with you, which I’m learning is based on something recent and real.”

“No,” he insists. “Not something real.”

“I don’t know if I will ever get that time back,” she continues in a brittle tone. “But you and she still have your memories. Your time together is perfectly recalled by all parties.”

He has the wrong expression on his face. He should be penitent, but instead he looks resigned, as though he expected this. He shrugs, and it just inflames her anger.

“What?” she demands.

“You don’t understand,” Mulder says, gesturing, futilely, as though he can’t see the point.

“Of course I don’t,” Scully bites back. “Of course I don’t understand.”

Mulder rubs his temples. “I don’t think it’s possible me for me to—”

“Try harder,” she says, and she is surprised by the fierce, pure tone of her voice. “Try harder to make me understand.”

He’s taken aback. The startled look on his face gives her a momentary satisfaction.

“All right,” he says in a different voice. “All right, okay, I’ll try.” He wipes his hands on his pants. “What is it exactly you want to know?”

“Why you slept with Diana.”

“Scully—”

“No.” She shakes her head. “I need to understand all of it.”

“You and I weren’t together,” he blurts. “At that point, things were…rough between us. I thought we'd never be together. Diana was manipulative and attractive. I was lonely and easily flattered. I knew it was a mistake afterwards, almost immediately. It’s as simple as that.”

“Did I believe that account, when we were together?”

“Yeah,” he says. “You did. You trusted me.”

The faint hint of implicit blame–you trusted me then, why not now?— pushes her past her limit.

“How convenient,” she says sharply, rising to her feet. “Of course, I can’t confirm that, can I?”

“No,” he says defiantly. “But still, really, you don’t understand—”

“Stop saying that.”

His voice rises in response. “What else do you want, Scully?”

“To know everything, actually. I’d like my memory back.”

“I can’t give you that,” he says in frustration. “I’m doing the best I can.”

“And anything you say I’m forced to believe, because I have absolutely no other choice.”

“You think I’d lie to you?”

She fixes him with an incredulous look. “Would you say you’ve been honest with me these past few days?”

He shuts his eyes a moment, ashamed. “No. And I’m sorry.” He stands, too. “Okay, look. I know it’s an excuse, but I’ve been acting out of … fear. What I went through, this grief … and then here you are, back. If the rug was yanked out from under me, Scully—”

Scully raises her hand to stop him. “I know,” she says weakly, “I know.”

The tense moment stretches out.

“What is a relationship, except for a story shared between two people?” Scully asks. “Who we are, what we mean to each other.”

He’s perplexed, considering the truth of what she’s saying.

“This relationship we had, it’s not a story shared between us any more,” she continues.

“Okay,” he says, the resigned look again.

“I’ve … lost that,” Scully says, her voice disconsolate. “I lost what were apparently the best memories of my life. I lost the story of this relationship that was everything to me.”

He blinks as if her tone of mourning is actually a surprise to him. He sits down on the couch again, looking at her like she’s bizarre, unexpected forensic evidence.

Why is he so confused about how she feels? Is it really so unfathomable? He’s the one who doesn’t understand, not her.

Scully doesn’t think she can stand this any more.

She spins and walks abruptly into the bedroom, closing the door behind her—something just slightly less forceful than a slam. The impact is enough to slightly rattle the pictures on his bedroom walls.

For thirty seconds she stands in front of the bed, hands covering her face. Do not cry. Do not cry.

No sound from the living room. Not a creak.

She walks slowly to the bed. She crawls in, slips under the covers, and gives up the fight.

She’s not sure how long it’s been. It’s likely she dozed off for a while. Distantly, from under the protection of the comforter, she hears the sound of Mulder’s footsteps slowly, cautiously entering the room.

He didn’t knock. It’s his room, after all—she has no place of her own. Or maybe he did knock, and she was just asleep and didn’t hear.

“Hi, Scully,” he says hesitantly.

He sounds timid, boyish, like his old self, trying to please her or convince her of something. That’s a good start.

“How are you?” he tries. “Are you okay?”

She stays buried under the comforter. “Well, I have memory loss,” she says, speaking into the pillow. “I’ve been kept in artificial stasis for a year. I’m crying. I’m knocked up and nauseous and hormonal.”

“So… no?”

“No,” she agrees. “Not okay.”

“I understand that learning about me sleeping with Diana probably hurts you,” he says. “I, uh, was too impatient before. It was news to you, and I get it. I’m sorry.”

Now she draws the comforter down off of her face to look at him. He’s standing just inside the door, looking like he’s uncomfortable in his own body, shifting his weight from foot to foot like an adolescent boy. His eyes find hers.

“I can only tell you …. that time with Diana was so small, so trivial compared to what there was later between me and you,” he says. “That’s probably why I seem dismissive of it.”

“Oh?”

“Not even in the same category of human experience.” He looks at his feet. “I wish I could make you understand that.”

She briefly considers a cutting retort about her understanding, but watching him—the tense line of his jaw, the slump of his shoulders, the shuffle of his feet—she opts not to. Show him some grace, she decides. Listen.

“I don’t know if anything will help you with all this,” he continues. “But I thought maybe I could tell you a little about what it was like … with us.” Mulder moves to sit near the end of the bed, one leg tucked up so he can face her. “If that sounds okay to you.”

She regards him, her eyes not able to leave his face, and she nervously licks her lips. “That sounds okay.”

He sighs, and then methodically scratches the back of his neck, as if considering his words.

“You know I haven’t had a lot of relationships—especially in recent years,” he says. “But ours was the best one.”

“Hmm,” she says, fighting her discomfort.

“By far.”

“Obviously,” Scully replies, a very soft deadpan. If she doesn’t keep some sort of front up, she’ll cry.

“In some ways it was the same as always,” he says. He looks up the bed at her, and there is definitely something like longing in his eyes. “We were the same as we ever were. We’ve always taken care of one another, right? You know, I held your door; you made sure I ordered vegetables at restaurants. But obviously it wasn’t all…the same.”

She sits up, pushing the comforter back abruptly. She wants to know everything now, and she can’t contain her frustration. “What was it… how did we… did we go on dates?”

“Not often, no,” he admits. “Just a few times. I should have taken you out more.”

She forces herself to continue to look straight at him. “It wasn’t just sex, I assume? There were significant feelings?”

His lips twitch. “Scully,” he says, “obviously, yes.”

“But the sex…?”

“Was … transcendent.”

“Transcendent?” She finds herself using the exact same dubious tone she uses when he suggests something is extraterrestrial.

“You asked, so I’m telling you,” he says in a husky voice. “It was a spiritual experience.”

“Jesus, Mulder,” she says, blushing.

“You used that exact phrase a few times,” he says emphatically. “Like I said, spiritual experience.”

Scully smiles a little, but she doesn’t feel that happy. It feels like hearing about a party you weren’t able to attend or a vacation you never actually went on.

“You found out you were pregnant when the Bureau insisted on a physical out of the blue, right before you and I were supposed to go back to Bellefleur to investigate some disappearances related to our first case. I thought the timing seemed suspicious. I wondered if someone had insisted on your physical exactly for that reason,” Mulder sighs. “At the time, it felt like someone wanted you to know you were pregnant so that we would delay our trip to Oregon.”

“Did we delay our trip?”

“We did,” Mulder says. “Actually, we never went.”

Scully takes this in. Maybe that somehow figured into Diana’s plan. Maybe she was the one to arrange for the physical. But if Scully hadn’t even taken a pregnancy test at that point, how could Fowley have known she was pregnant? The thought of these games being played with her reproductive system—with others knowing more about her pregnancy than her—sends more streaks of cold worry up her spine.

“The baby could have unique abilities,” Scully remembers, speaking her thoughts aloud. “That’s what Diana said.”

“But who knows what that means, Scully? Who knows if it’s even true? She was not always on our side.”

“Was I worried about the baby then? At all?”

“No,” he says, a sad smile. “You were happy.”

“I don’t remember,” she says miserably.

“Are you … not happy about the baby now, Scully?”

Scully considers his question seriously for a moment. “I am,” she says. “I want to be a mother. It’s an incredible chance. But—”

He’s very still at the end of the bed, watching her intently.

“I want what I had.”

“What you had?” he says. “Meaning …?”

She pushes the comforter to the side and scoots down the bed, so close to him that she could touch him if she wanted.

She sits there in front of him, cross-legged, her body pitched forward so that her face is very near his. He’s breathing quickly, still watching her raptly.

“I want what I had,” she repeats more softly.

His eyes widen, darting all over her face at a rapid pace. He looks almost panicked. She reaches out and very lightly, uncertainly strokes his hair. She doesn’t know how exactly she would have soothed him when they were together, so she can only go on instinct.

“Do you …still want that?” she asks, her tone carefully casual, as though she weren’t hanging on his answer.

The features of his face settle into an expression of simple amazement. He leans his cheek slightly into the hand touching his hair.

“It’s okay if you don’t,” she adds quickly. “Or if you want to wait and see how you feel. You’ve been through so much, and the situation is—”

He pushes forward and presses his lips to hers, turning his head expertly so their mouths align just right.

She doesn’t remember doing this with him, although she knows she has. His lips are perfectly soft; his style is painstaking. It’s not their first kiss—not from his point of view—but he behaves like it is, and the kiss is sweet, adoring, gentle. The kiss you give someone on a first date.

That he’s being so careful and thoughtful with her perversely makes her want to drag him down on top of her.

Pulling away, his eyes examine her. He smiles a tiny smile. It’s the most sincerely hopeful she’s seen him since arriving in 2001, she thinks.

“Okay,” she breathes. “That’s…” She’s having a hard time formulating words.

She makes a decision and, in painful slow motion, finds herself taking hold of his white tee shirt, bunching it up tightly in her fingers, and using it to tug him slowly closer.

Her mouth finds his again. Kisses like curious questions first, but then she’s bolder, more aggressive than he was.

He responds well to the approach. His arms enclose her and he draws her into his lap. When their chests brush against one another, Scully has to stifle a cry at the startling sensation, the instant tightening and tingling of her nipples, even within her bra. All her skin seems unbearably heightened and charged. It’s like there is an electrical storm setting off in her body.

She dimly wonders if her body is remembering what her mind doesn’t. Or if she’s just in some cloud of pregnancy hormones. Because her body is crackling with sparks — on her back everywhere his hand grasps, on her lips each time his mouth marks hers again, between her legs as she finds herself wanting to grind against him. She feels like she could set on fire at any point.

“Are you okay?” He apparently senses her surprise. He pulls his mouth away and leans his forehead against hers. “Is it too much?”

“Um, yes,” she says breathlessly. “It’s too much. Way too much. But… I don’t especially want to stop.”

He tilts his head, confused, and reaches out to tuck a lock of her hair behind her ear. “I don’t want to stop either,” he says. “But there’s no reason to push. I know this is … new for you.”

“You remember 1998, don’t you?” she whispers shyly, tracing his jaw line with a fingertip. “Wanting this is not that new.”

“I want it to be right,” he insists. “I want you to feel right about it.”

“I’m fine, Mulder,” she says. “It’s just…” She doesn’t know how to explain. “Was it always like this?”

“Like how?”

“Like…” She hesitates. Like lightning striking every place you touch me. “So intense.”

His eyes flash with new interest. “Yeah,” he says with a goofy grin. “I told you so.” He swoops down and begins kissing up her neck, setting aflame a trail of nerve endings up her jugular. “Although…” He smiles to himself. “I think you did mention the hormones giving you a little kick start before, too.”

Scully arches her head back, leaning fully into his mouth, releasing a deep, extended sigh. Mulder pays such thorough attention to her neck it’s almost maddening.

“Intense,” he repeats suddenly against her collarbone, chuckling. “If you think this part is intense, I’m really interested in your reaction to the rest of my work.”

Scully caresses the back of his head with her hands. “I suppose there’s something to being able to experience things again for the first time,” she says softly. “That’s something most people don’t get to do.”

He peers up at her, all at once serious. “I suppose that’s right,” he says in a low voice. His brow furrows. “I’m glad you get to have that, Scully.”

She doesn’t like this shift in mood. “Me, too,” she says, “but why don’t we do something about getting my shirt off now?”

His eyebrows lift. In a few minutes, so does her shirt.

Scully opens her eyes and lifts her head off the pillow impatiently. Mulder’s sheets are as buttery soft and wonderful as ever, but she’s getting jostled too much to enjoy them. He’s sitting up next to her in the morning light, stretching his arms over his head. He looks beautiful, shirtless and golden, but much too awake.

“Sorry,” he whispers. “Did I wake you?”

“What are you doing?” She falls back down on the pillow. “Why are you moving so much?”

He dives down next to her, bouncing the mattress dramatically again, and orients his face nose to nose with hers on her pillow. He stares at her and offers a dazzling smile. “Sorry, Scully.”

She kisses him, and reflects that this charm tactic isn’t fair. This must be one way Mulder in a relationship compensates for annoying habits. Reflecting on last night, she can think of other ways. Is that the sort of thing she could ever get used to?

Scully pushes him onto his back and burrows determinedly into his side. “Go back to sleep a little while,” she orders his pectoral muscle. “Lie here and sleep.”

“But I feel awake.”

“Shhhh.” She strokes his chest soothingly, running her fingers through the silky hair there. “Close your eyes.”

“I think we should get up.”

“Why?” It’s an outright whine.

“Two reasons,” he says. She feels him take a deep breath, as though preparing himself for a long speech. He tilts his head to speak to her. “First, I was told recently that I’ve adopted an unhealthy nocturnal sleep schedule, suggesting I need to try the more disciplined approach of getting up earlier in the mornings. I was told this by someone I respect deeply and whose wise counsel I never ignore.”

Scully blinks, rolling off of him. “What a time to listen to me, Mulder.”

“Second, I thought maybe we could go out for breakfast.” He lifts himself up to glance at the clock, then dives back down to prop himself up on his side, chin on hand, to face her. “I guess by the time we got going we could probably call it brunch.”

“Out for breakfast?”

“Like a date,” he says excitedly. “I want to take you out for a brunch date, Scully. Just think, you can get a mimosa—”

“Noooo.”

“No, no, you’re right, you can’t,” he agrees, wincing in chagrin. “So we’ll go somewhere you can get fresh-squeezed juice and good coffee.”

“I don’t know, Mulder. I don’t have much to wear,” she says.

“You could wear that bedsheet as far as I’m concerned. You’re always beautiful.”

She flushes, still not accustomed to this kind of talk from him, and tugs the bedsheet around her breasts. “I’d really prefer not to do that.”

“Wear jeans, wear one of those T-shirts,” Mulder says. “It doesn’t matter. Let me do this for you. We can go buy you a bunch of clothes afterwards if you want. Don’t you need some clothes for—” He scoots down her body to peer at her abdomen, outlining an invisible protruding belly with his hand. He grins. “They make clothes just for that, don’t they? Do they expand as you grow? Are they built from the same material as the space shuttle?”

She rolls her eyes fondly at him. But it’s such a relief to see him like this again: his face lit up eagerly with an idea, his body so restless and taut he can’t even stay still. This is how Mulder should be, how he’s supposed to be. Like a coiled spring, pure potential energy. It’s familiar. It makes Scully’s heart hurt with happiness.

“You said we didn’t go on many dates,” she remembers.

“Exactly,” he says softly. “Second chance, Scully.”

He lays his cheek on her abdomen, looking up towards her face. She fingers the soft strands of his hair lightly. She suspects he’s listening for the baby.

“Did we never have quiet mornings in bed though?” she says wistfully. “Or … long weekend days in bed?”

“There will be time for that,” he says. He pops up again, springing from the bed in one motion, which makes her dizzy even to contemplate. He turns around to beam at her triumphantly. “Don’t you get it, Scully? Now there’s going to be time for everything.”

TTEOTM is the most viewed non-dangai xianxia drama since Ashes of Love 😮

With the conclusion of Yunhe (云合)'s airing period on Jun 11, we can officially say that TTEOTM is the biggest non-dangai xianxia drama since 2018, with 68M views/episode!

2023 Yunhe Playback per Episode - #1 is The Knockout, #2 is TTEOTM

Kuyun (酷云), a different data platform unaffiliated with any online streamer, also put TTEOTM at 70M views/episode, but its data only go back two years, so we use Yunhe to compare further back.

This makes TTEOTM the #2 show in 2023. Since 2023 is not yet over, if it aired in another year, it would overtake #2 in 2022, #4 in 2021, and #6 in 2020. (Viewership used to be higher in past years, more on that later)

Just to provide a bit context on why this is so insane, so beyond anyone's expectations:

TTEOTM aired exclusively on Youku, the weakest of the big 3 platforms. Youku only has 1/3 to 1/2 of iQiyi and Tencent's daily active user base. If you look at the top 10 dramas in 2018-2022, all of them aired on iQiyi, Tencent, many of them on both or even all 3 platforms. Before TTEOTM, Youku's biggest web exclusive drama is Who is He, police mystery featuring Knockout Star Zhang Yi at 44M views/episode. And before 2023, the highest a Youku exclusive web drama has ever ranked on the annual list is #15 (The Blue Whisper).

The xianxia genre is thought to have a limited audience (young women) even though it generates a lot of fanfare. This might be surprising given how well it travels abroad. However, if you look at the top 3-4 shows each year, it's usually a mix of historical family dramas, crime/thrillers, modern/urban dramas.

April is considered a shit airing slot, especially for xianxias which rely on students on break. Almost all of the top shows in previous years aired during summer or winter holidays. The #1 show in 2022 aired in Nov-Dec, but that was when everyone in China was stuck at home with Covid...

TV viewership has been on the decline with share of attention shifted to short form content and other forms of entertainment. Since 2019 there have been very few mega hits at the same level of Eternal Love or Yanxi Palace until Knockout came along. Very few costume dramas are able to land a coveted TV slot, and web dramas now tend to air on one instead of multiple platforms.

Therefore, most of the data observers thought that 35-40M would be a win and 50-60M near impossible. It's fun to see people bumping up old posts/polls to see how far off predictions were (especially when commenters start backtracking and raising the bar for an explosive hit.) Most people, like myself, benchmarked against Youku's 2022 xianxias: Blue Whisper (37M) and Immortal Samsara (36M). Both featured dual dinglius and the latter aired during the summer.

There are also a few other things stacked against TTEOTM's playback numbers:

Yunhe is affiliated with iQiyi (created to provide data to advertisers). It tends to discount views more harshly when it comes to Youku & Tencent dramas.

Youku has weaker "long-tail" effect again due to its smaller default user base. The drama is bringing users to the platform, not the other way around. After the big promotional push and buzz dies down, it's harder for new viewers to discover the show.

Immediately after TTEOTM finished airing, Youku pushed users towards Back from the Brink and stopped promoting TTEOTM on its main page.

In fact, Youku locked most episodes unusually quickly (such that people have to purchase VIP to watch older episodes) and only unlocked it for the last few days of the airing period. (Some fans argue it's because TTEOTM is a "copyright" drama. This means Youku only has the airing rights and may even have to pay Otter a bonus for high playback volume)

That's why it's a pretty exciting/shocking that TTEOTM is now just behind Ashes of Love, which aired during the summer on all 3 platforms and 2 TV channels back in the heyday of 2018. (Basically we just love watching LYX being bullied and spitting blood)

(Before 2018, there's also Eternal Love and Journey of the Flower which are definitely bigger hits, but I don't have the data and the industry landscape is too different back then for fair comparison.)

TTEOTM seems to have attracted a group of "data fans" who enjoy watching expectations blown apart. (Some don't even rate the story or the actors. They just like the idea of data prevailing over fan wars.) It's especially fun when the drama is strong in every dimension possible. Here's a compilation (and a bit of explanation) of the drama's achievements:

This is the most important & direct measurement of a drama's success in general.

Opening - good indicator of how much drawing power the stars have, but not how well the drama does overall (big debuts often flop while dark horses emerge)

Arguably what matters most, at least to online streaming platforms, whose income mainly derives from members. Youku is the underdog, so I'm sure customer acquisition is their #1 KPI and why they've invested so much in promoting TTEOTM

3. Advertisement

A major income for platforms. Brands can place ads on specific shows (should be cheaper if you bet right) or pay for random, dynamic placement (you can tell based on whether the drama's title is on the ad itself). The earlier the brand buys in, the cheaper the rates, which I believe is a fixed amount based on production class. Often big IP, big stars, modern dramas get the most upfront, especially if the star brings in their own "brand daddies" (sorry, that sounds naughty).

Some shows start out with nothing, but as more and more people watch, advertisers place more ads in subsequent episodes. The opposite also happens. That's why it's also an indicator of how well the show is performing according to the industry. Advertisers have access to proprietary data and are putting a lot of money on the line.

TTEOTM has 27.6 seconds of ads per episode, 2nd highest of any costume drama in 2023

This includes 26 brands, highest of any xianxia drama in 3 years

It is only one of 12 dramas this year so far with ads in every single episode

Big brands like Huaiwei and Master Kong placed ads as the show progressed, with ad time peaking in episodes 26-30. This is a big stamp of approval from advertisers.

After the drama finished airing, a brand "chased" the hype by placing more ads, which is quite rare

Baizhi (Baidu search, equivalent to Google): Heat index of 790K, highest of any xianxia in the last few years. TTEOTM is also #5 drama in 2022-23 combined, behind Knockout (1894K), Sword Snow Stride (936K) (both aired on CCTV), Dream of Splendor (913K), and Reset (892K)

Weixin Index (WeChat, equivalent to Facebook & Whatsapp): Peak heat index of 166M, #1 drama in 2023 (even in front of Knockout) and highest of any xianxia or costume idol drama in the last few years. (Note Weixin is owned by Tencent)

Baike Page Visits (Wikipedia): A bit random, but if you take it at face value, it's just how many people have heard about the show and looked it up. A good indicator for general awareness. Note that this is cumulative so we cannot fairly compare across years. TTEOTM is #1 costume drama (likely #2 overall) 2023 and even ahead of some of the dramas from previous years

Finally, people are starting to look at tourism GDP as TTEOTM unintentionally generated a lot of interest in Bengbu (literally "clam town"), which has sculptures related to Mingye and Sangjiu. According to the local government, Bengbu gained an incremental 1.5B RMB in tourism GDP during the May 1 holidays thanks to interest from TTEOTM fans. (I feel like this might be a post for another day)

Story time: When I was little and first start wachting anime (not counting Pokemon and Digimon because I didnt know what anime even was when first seeing them on tv) I learned about the big three, and wanted to watch all of them. One at a time thou.

So I watched few videos like amv or top 10 lists on yt to decide which one to start with. Bleach I found pretty boring, still do, just dont think its an anime for me. Im sure its good as it has a lot of fans. But not for me. And One Piece I thought was too childish, not sure if I saw 4kidz dub or it might be before any one of the big emotional scenes (before water 7, as in genocide wasnt a plot point yet) but I thought it was a 'friendship is magic' type of show. Naruto I saw there was blood (why I think I might have seen one piece 4kidz videos) and the nine tail fox, which I thought was the cooled thing ever. So I ended up with watching Naruto first. Spoiler: Nine tails barely have any scenes so that was a huge let down.

I didnt like Naruto because he kept trying to sneak in the womens bath and transforming into a naked girl to give people nosebleeds. Little ace me, who didnt know what asexual was, didnt approve. Sasuke I thougth was an idiot, I normally like the overly emo characters but I just thought hes reasoning and actions were stupid. (Like in the end he came back like "Im going to be the new hokage". like bitch! You are a war criminal that sided with the enemy that tried to destroy the village at one point! Why the fuck would the village want you as their leader??!!) And Sakura just seemed really pointless. There was a thing that she was supposed to be the more giften one in channeling chakra but Naruto and Sasuke quickly cought or was atleast good enough that Sakura wasnt needed that often. There was some good scenes but they were few and far between.

Not liking the main characters is a bad start when watching a show.

I dont remember that much what happend in the anime because I got so mad about how long time it took for things to happen that I ended up suppressing the memories. I didnt know what filler episodes was untill after I was almost at the end of the serie. So I watched all and every filler episodes thinking they were nessesary.

Did you know 41% of the anime was filler? 91 of 220 episodes of the original anime where filler. And 203 of 500 episodes of shippuden where filler. And one point there was even 76 episode in a row that was filler. From 13 july 2005 to 1 february 2007 where just filler episodes.

I refused to watch Bleach and One Piece after thinking they had as much filler episodes as Naruto. Untill I got recommended one piece videos on yt and decided to give it a try. But looking up which episodes where filler so I could skip it. But One piece only had 10 %. I know there were someone that had counted how many minutes where filler scenes in each episode which made that procentage a lot higher.

I know its annoying that One Piece has a lot of scene filler where things are dragged out little too long. But if I had to choose I do rather have filler scenes than filler episodes. Even thou filler episodes can be fun from time to time. But not 76 in a row.

LMAO I can't speak on the Naruto stuff, but One Piece's LACK of filler surprised me too? And I say lack of filler because, shocker! Having like, 3-5 fillers per 100 EPISODES?? SOMETIMES NOT EVEN THAT?? People truly don't realise how insane that is, and how lucky we are for that?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, people really need to watch One Piece SECOND to something else - especially second to other anime. You truly see how good you have it and how good of a show One Piece is when it's the SECOND thing you watch LMAO

A Night to Remember - 2

She monotonously paced around the room to burn off her restlessness. She repeated the principles of management and profit planning, hoping it’ll ground her.

Her mind and body were far too desperate to know about him. Did he already know she was here? Was he happy or sad to see her? Does he want her back? Should she play hard or fall into his arms?

Maybe she should just avoid him, treat him as a stranger she weakly sighed

Her thoughts raced a mile an hour, punctuated by the loud rainfall outside. The thought of crossing the waterlogged grounds irritated her, but at least she’ll be left alone with her thoughts for now.

This family’s problems are as intricate as their mansion’s décor she chuckled. Their long term CAs- Anirudh & Pazhuvur- were a well known firm run by two senior professionals. They were from nobility themselves and handled elite clients. Though well meaning, they needed some help to untangle their client’s mess given the ever changing business laws.

She found a remote under the newspaper stand faced it towards the small, early 2000s BPL TV. She tsked when it didn’t switch on. Restlessness made her bang the remote on the sofa armrest repeatedly -and voila! The TV worked.

She shifted through the channels….. ethirneechal serial, suryavamsam movie,teleshopping, BBC, live telecast of a temple..no no no she chanted before settling on an Indian news channel.

An immaculately dressed man addressed the eager reporters. “Pandyan corp will venture into buying other heritage properties too”, he said that they’d already eyed a few old forts and palaces to turn into tourist sweetspots.

“Sir, you had already announced such a project 2 years ago, but it failed to take off” clamoured a journo

The official smoothly assured them that this time it will take off, dismissing the previous plan that fell through.

Nandini smirked, thinking of how they lost their most lucrative purchase due to her ‘skills’.

The Pandya’s were the royal clan who lost the most to colonialism. But they persevered, ignored public criticism, cut costs and started a real estate business- unthinkable for a clan of their stature. They’d changed their last remaining fort into a Heritage hotel and entered the luxury real estate market. Other noble clan’s looked down on them then, only to regret their decisions now.

The Chozhas were one of them. They had maintained autonomous rule long enough, so they settled into a complacent lifestyle. Their palatial homes (including their current residence), agricultural lands overseen by locals all seemed grand. Their money was locked up in trust funds and wills, rendering them unable to withdraw funds for their immediate needs. Their business investments were failing and it looked like they had to sell atleast one property.

Pandyas might’ve modernized into a corporate now, but their executive committee’s bitterness remained. They had lost a lot to the Chozhas but couldn’t retaliate when the British slammed them with the ‘Doctrine of Lapse’.

Their core team, on behalf of the young son of their late CEO, was full of “old guards”- people from families who’ve long been faithful servants of the owner’s kingly forefathers.

They were the top players in the luxury segment, their plan to buy heritage properties was just a century old thirst to one up the Chozhas

She’d interned with them as a gangly 23 year old fresh out of uni. The opportunity was great- they were one of the patrons of her college’s scholarship program. Veer pandyan had personally taught her, despite knowing real estate wasn’t her main interest.

The talent scouts at HR had run a background check, the results of which intrigued the big boss.

Born and adopted in Madurai, moved to a suburb of Thanjavur at 10 where her dad worked as a Archagar in temple before moving to Chennai after grade 11.

It was the last fact that caught his eye.

No sane Indian family, no matter their financial woes would shift cities when their child has completed 11th. Something drastic must’ve occurred. It no doubt involved the Chozhas as nothing moved from that estate without their consent.

The pandyan corp executives were nice to her. Really nice, that some of the older employees began envying her- an intern! Veer pandyan had a friendly uncle demeanor as he taught her the practicalities of real estate, investments and predicting markets. But soon his real interest began to show, he tried to pry into her past.

“It’s just odd, you know, you did grade 11 in one city and grade 12 in another “ he innocently asked.

Hoping to tolerate the intrusion for the sake of her job, Nandini replied “ My dad found a better position in Chennai, besides my brother wanted to join the OTA” hoping it sounded rational. She loved using her military intelligence officer bro as an excuse.

He left it for the day, but circled back to it often. “You went to THAT school right? The one where the Chozha kids studied… did you talk to them?”

Nandini cursed herself for being so naïve. She initially presumed he wanted to know about her past genuinely.

The topic was too painful. A sore spot she rarely thought of even in private- afraid of the emotional fallout. No amount of casual dismissal of her acquaintance with them sated her boss.

The heckling of journalists of the suited man snapped her to the present.

She began chuckling madly at the TV, at the slimy man trying to convince the reporters that all was well in paradise. Uncaring of been seen, she wheezed with laughter, knowing all wasn’t well- they had her to thank for that!

The low grumbling of the skies masked her outburst and made her anticipate the next loud thunder. It settled into silence but she wasn’t completely at peace yet. She’d stolen biscuits, borrowed a blanket and used the living room of her former flame.

She looked every bit the confident career woman she was, but his presence threw her off the cool headspace she maintained. And she’d have to leave this place anyway.

A fainted shadow fell on the foyer. “The rain must’ve messed with the porch lights” Nandini dismissed it and continued to change the channels. She chose to watch a Djokovic vs Nadal match to pass time. Engrossed as she was in their rally, she didn’t notice the shadow shift closer to her.

The door lock clicked and forced her to notice. “holy shit please don’t be a murderer” she inwardly thought before deciding to turn.

Her stuff shoulders turned, her eyebrows curled in fear but the sight of the form at the door step made them turn up in anger. “You…you brat!” Nandini bared her teeth as the tormentor of her dreams just smirked

An enemies to lovers high school set, paladin bab boy pairing from GMMTV. This is right in their wheelhouse and was my most anticipated from GMMTV’s 2022 line up. Tropes include: sinister boarding school, haze the one you love, suspense & horror elements looks great, dark (but in a way Thailand can handle), kind of Blacklist-ish meets Great Men Academy. GMMTV excels at this kind of content. Stars First (The Shipper, Not Me) & Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee) side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis. I actually really like this lead pair and I think they can handle the content. trailer

* I’m gonna point out an important thing. I find it notable that Khaotung as the aggressor/bad boy (for a change) in this GMMTV offering has his natural skin tone (aka darker) as opposed to when he’s playing a super uke role (see Tonhon Chonlatee). Now there could be mitigating factors (like the makeup people got better at matching base tones, or they were shooting outside a lot), but still Thailand’s propensity for associating negative/evil/poor/crazy characters with darker skin tones is so painful and so insidious I want everyone to notice this, especially when we see it being carried out on THE SAME actor by THE SAME production team.

And yes, Korea does this too.

Friends to lovers, high school set, high angst, sunshine/sunshine pairing from Studio Wabi Sabi for iQIyI. (trailer) Neighbors and childhood friends, Cake & Seeiw, who have totally opposite personalities slowly growing apart. This one has the chemistry and the script so fingers crossed it’s not sad. Y-novel adaptation (author Afterday - Bad Buddy) starring SantaEarth (7 Project).

Do we trust Studio Wabi Sabi or director New anymore? Even with SantaEarth (especially with SantaEarth). That is the question.

Enemies to lovers, high school set for CHOCO TV to air on Bilibili (no trailer) from the producers of HIStory 2&3, and Tsai Mi Chieh the director of H1: Stay Away From Me; H2: Crossing the Line; H3: MODC; Love Is Science (we like her). Adapted from the novel Secretly by Huang Si Mi about high school boys with different backgrounds, personalities, and values who compete for student president, but have more attraction than animosity. The drama focuses on two storylines: egocentric elite student Ye Guang who fights in the council elections with a quiet guitarist Xu Qi Zhang, and his friend Ray who after a recent breakup up with his boyfriend meets A Jian.

Interesting that there isn’t anything from Korea and nothing new for Viki this month. Although give them a chance, they drop suddenly and later sometimes.
