KISS MY BLOODIED LIPS.
— pairing ; kaneki ken x human!gn!reader
— summary ; you never expected to kiss one of the hated humanoid monsters, yet here you were. or: first kiss with him.
— cw ; don't worry he doesn't actually have blood on his lips, fluff, awkward first kiss, slight making out? est. relationship
Tumblr media Tumblr media
only god knew why and how you ended up in a dark alley behind anteiku, but you were there and something was about to happen. you weren't dense, you could feel it in the way kaneki was looking at you – or rather, the way his gaze had dropped down to your lips more than once already. a gesture you reciprocated eagerly, until at some point you were just awkwardly staring at each other's lips.
you didn't know how to go from there, as you never kissed someone before. you weren't one to put much thought into what your first kiss would be like, but you always assumed it would be with a human. yet here you were, cornered by the ghoul you grew to adore.
no, kaneki didn't verbally tell you he wanted to kiss you, but you weren't oblivious; there was only one possible outcome to the position you were currently in, and you were afloat on the tight atmosphere. you couldn't wait, although you were incredibly nervous just as much.
"i-is this okay?" the half-ghoul asked, bringing up his hand to cup your cheek. kaneki gazed at you full of worry, as if one wrong move would break the spell and scare you away.
"mhm," you hummed, tilting your head to lean into his light touch a little more. you offered him an awkward smile, not knowing what else to say.
"i never did this before," kaneki confessed. "i guess i'm afraid of messing up, afraid of losing control, i don't know, i just–"
"only one way to find out, right?" you shrugged, trying to come off calm and collected. but your voice was a little shaky and uneven, giving away how nerves got a tight grip on you.
the boy with hair as pale as the moon visibly gulped, but something in his gaze hardened resolutely. it was as if he made up his mind, bringing up his other hand to cup your face completely and tilting your head to his favor. all physical distance was slowly being eliminated, the heavy anticipation palpable in the air between you. kaneki moved closer to you, barely daring to breathe as his eyes fluttered closed. you shuddered when his lips ghosted over yours, a fleeting touch that made both your breath hitch in your throat.
but the ghoul hesitated, froze in his movements, even drew back a little as his eyes opened anxiously. he was nervous, and it wasn't hard to figure out what was on his mind. after all, behind his soft lips rested the teeth of a deadly predator, and right now the hunter brought its teeth close to its prey.
"we can wait if it doesn't feel okay yet," you reassured him as fear rose in his grey eyes. "we don't have to do it right now, there's no rush."
"no, i want this," kaneki sputtered, a slight frown falling upon his features. "i'm just afraid of hurting you, one way or another."
"i trust you," you solemnly told him.
"you shouldn't," the ghoul shook his head.
"but i do," you countered. "kiss me, ken."
kaneki sighed, muttering something under his breath before he finally gave in. the final distance that separated you was eliminated as his lips met yours – tentative, brief, lingering for but a second before he pulled back. he watched you, and as you showed no signs of dismay he dove right back in. this time he kissed you with more fervor, more courage, his lips moving against yours in a somewhat uncoordinated rhythm.
but god, you were enjoying it. your hands found his sweater, fingers clawing at the soft fabric to pull him even closer to you. he was being careful, he was holding back, you could feel it. but you weren't going to ask for more – not now. you were beyond happy with what he was giving you already.
when he pulled back, he was panting lightly – and so were you. kaneki looked at you, grey eyes full of adoration. you couldn't help but break into a full smile, looping your arms around his neck and hugging him close. the half-ghoul was quick to reciprocate the gesture, pressing a chaste kiss to the top of your head as he held you lovingly.
"see? i can trust you," you giggled lightly, resting your cheek against his shoulder as you clung to him.
"just not too much, okay?" kaneki muttered, his breath rustling your hair. "i'm a monster, and as much as i love you, you'll never know when i mess up."
it was a peculiar love story the two of you had. humans were supposed to despise ghouls, their only enemy. and yet you fought through the natural boundaries, getting too infatuated with one of the hated humanoids and erasing the line that naturally stood between the hunter and their prey.
but it was okay. maybe kaneki didn't trust himself, but you did. and you knew you wouldn't regret it, ever. after all, love was stronger than his hunger, right?

our future
Kaneki Ken x Fueguchi!Reader
[warning: pregnancy: est relationship: mentions of parents death (past): implied sexual intercourse (past)
beginning / middle / end / epilogue
Her foot tapped against the bathroom floor, as she sat impatiently on the toilet. Time seemed to move slowly as she waited for the test results. Her stomach turning with uncertainty as she bit her lower lip nervously.
She never took into account what could possibly happen after, they consummated their feelings for each other. After they escaped the ambush. She didn’t expect to end up with symptoms so fast.
Her heart stopped and the pregnancy test fell onto the ground. She stared off into space for what felt like hours but was only mere seconds. Before shaking her head, and looking down at the pregnancy test on the floor.
‘Positive +’
Tears brimmed her eyes as she hugged her knees to her chest. Her suspicions confirmed. She was pregnant with Kaneki’s child. She was scared and didn’t know if the child would be born healthy. If her body would mistake it for food. Kaneki was half-ghoul, he was once a human then turned into a ghoul.
She always wanted to be a mother that dream, coming from her passion of wanting to be a teacher. She loved kids their curious minds and how adorable they were, and how smart they could be. She wanted, to help shape the future. To teach the future kids of Japan.
She sniffled as she reached towards the pregnancy test, “How am I going to tell him?” she whispered, looking at the positive pregnancy test. Biting her lip nervously; placing her hand on her stomach she leaned back against the wall.
Hinami was only thirteen when their parents died and [Y/n] sixteen. They still needed their mother and father but the CCG made sure that never happened.
She banged her fist against the wall, as tears welled up in her eyes again. “Mom…Dad.. I wish you were still here.” she cried, hugging her knees as she cried on the bathroom floor.
There was a knock at the door, She quickly, shoved the pregnancy tests into her shirt. She wiped away her tears with her sleeve, as Kaneki entered the bathroom closing the door behind him.
“You okay?” He asked, sitting down on the bathroom floor next to her. She sniffled a little bit, “Yeah, just missing my parents that’s all.” She said, as her stomach turned she was lying to her own boyfriend. Father of their child.
She breathed in and opened her mouth, “I’m pregnant.” She hugged her knees to her chest, waiting for a response from Kaneki. The air was thick and the silence was deafening, “I dont know if it will be born healthy.” She said, looking down at the ground.
“When…When will it be born?” He asked, and she turned to look at him. “The child?” He added, she could’ve sworn she saw a few tears running down his cheek. “In December” She says, looking away from him for a moment.
“I’m happy.” He said, looking at the ground. “Really?” She asked, lifting up her head as her heart swelled with joy. “Yes really.” He said, and she leaned her head against his shoulder. He placed his head over hers and she smiled in response.
It was then the couple left a permanent mark on each other, one that wouldn’t fade away even long after they’re gone. A bite mark. Proof that they’re one. He loved her and he wanted to protect her no matter what. She loved him and wanted the same, giving him her mother’s engagement as a sign of her love for him.
Their love knew no bounds. She hoped they had a bright future ahead, and wanted this child in her womb to live. She was going to do everything in her power to make sure that happens. She leaned her forehead against Kaneki’s and smiled warmly, intertwining her fingers with his.

Warning: none, mention of bones but very metaphorical
Tokyo Ghoul, Uta X Human!Reader
Tumblr media
Moon
You feel a lump in your throat tighten as you walk around the dark room.
Usually the light is always on, waiting for you, no matter what time you arrive.
“Uta…?” You call, while inching forward, already expecting to get no answer. Something must have happened to him, you think just before all the anxiety melts away.
"I’m here. Take it easy…"
You sigh with relief as his soft voice reaches you from the bedroom.
Even if there is not a single light bulb lit, the lights of the city color the room with warm and elusive colors, urban lights of the suburbs of Tokyo, the living Tokyo of those who hide from the sun.
He's sitting on the bed, his back to you, the red iris looking at you over his shoulder is surrounded by an artificial yellowish reflection that makes the black background shine lowly. In the clutter of an underground artist's room, all that would be missing would be the smell of instant ramen or two in the morning frying, but you know there can be no such thing in a ghoul's house.
“The scent of your fear is all too inviting.”
Yes, the only smell of food that can be there is yours.
“I wasn't afraid.” You mutter.
"I wouldn't mind if you admit it."
Even if he is joking, what you have in front of you is a serious Uta.
You lie on your stomach, your head is close to his thighs and your gaze flees beyond the window where his is lost too.
“How was your night with your human friends?” He asks you, and you think for a couple of seconds to answer; it could be a trap, or it could be a good way to figure out what's going on in that twisted head of the most complex and absurd person you know.
"Boring?" You try uncertain.
"That's a lie, but I appreciate the effort."
A submissive grunt escapes you, but you soon focus back on him: “What about you? What are you doing?"
“I contemplate the moon.”
The moon. The moon adapts to him: so fickle, surrounded by darkness, variable, never the same but always itself.
Now, beyond the lights of the suburbs, it’s a thin segment, a germ that has yet to grow, a vaguely orange hue that could resemble a smile.
“It looks like a backbone.” Uta says, and you look at him with exasperation in your eyes.
"Seriously? We can watch a horror movie if you really feel like it.”
Now even his eyes seek yours, they feed on them.
You look at each other in the silence, both of you waiting for something, but then it's you who speaks: "Do ghouls and humans see the moon the same way?"
Usually it's you who gives this kind of answers, you who justify your nature in front of him, but this time you came first. This time he is the one who has to let you know what floor each of you are on.
"I guess you see a slice of melon, or the smile of the Cheshire Cat... instead I..."
“Even the poet and the scientist see two different things, that's not what I mean.”
Now you are sitting too; your left knee brushes his right. Uta looks at them for a moment without saying anything.
"Yes…I guess the moon is the same for everyone." He finally admits.
“And it's different for every single person in the world.” You add, bringing your meditation back to the satellite beyond the bright blanket of the city.
“Was it the melon or the smile?” He asks you after a while.
"The smile."
"Banal."
“I'm tired of being imaginative!” You retort pouting, now looking at his profile who has also turned his nose up towards the sky "and it's always better than your macabre taste."
“It could also be a rib.”
You puff. You rest your head on his shoulder and a yawn escapes you, it's been a long evening.
"Stop that."
"All right…"
Your fingers begin to trace the black lines on his arm, you almost don't look at them, your touch follows them, you know his skin almost as much as yours.
"Sometimes I forget that you belong to the world of those who see the smile of the moon..." He says quietly, and you're not sure you really heard.
He won't say anything else, and you know it. It's already so much that I've discovered that little thread of his soul, the one that's always tense when you go out with someone who's like you.
"The moon doesn't care about us." You say.
"How cruel."
"Or reassuring. Ghouls or humans, we are nothing before the universe."
You raise your head but you don't look at him, your eyes remains beyond, beyond humanity and all the worries that for better or for worse are destined to end.
"This is even scarier. In theory." He tells you, but you feel his lip piercing cool a tiny piece of skin from your neck. He will kiss you, or bite you.
It doesn't really matter.
It doesn't matter if the ghoul's presence is so reassuring to the human, it doesn't matter if someone judges them. Their union is not that important, not under the sight of the moon.

The tight grip on your wrist had tears sliding down your cheeks. A whimper couldn’t stop his actions, couldn’t soften his rigid heart. No matter how many ‘please’ escaped from your lips, the words fell onto deaf ears.
“Please...” Again, you whimpered, crying for mercy. Blinking away the tears, another came through as fast as you eliminate the salty substance. It keeps on soaking your cheeks, down to your collarbones and chin.
A sob escaped your lips, when Sasaki slid his other hand to your collar, later feeling the flesh of your breast. Your stomach was in knots; not the type you’d feel when your lover caresses you, but rather this awful-gut-wrenching feeling when a predator is touching you. Your brother is not supposed to touch you like this, right?
His fingers cruelly tuck away the stubborn piece of your shirt which tightly clutching your cleavage. Shaking your head, pleading, looking into his eyes did nothing. It was pointless. You couldn’t plead anymore, you know that; but somehow, your mouth move on its own when you cried “oniichan...”
Your body felt like it was in the air when Sasaki slowly lets his face and lips trail in the crook of your neck. The shivers running all over your body is enough to point out how uncomfortable you are: with his knees slide in between your legs, pressing against your pussy covered with only the thin material of your panties, you lay motionless on the wooden floorboards. A mewl escaped yet again when his tongue licked the skin of your neck.
“Shut up and do as i say.” He demanded, kissing your skin again and again when all you want is to escape this hell. You have always followed nii-san’s orders since the both of you are orphaned by the death of father and mother. You have always listened to every one of his soft commands, but...
Eversince Sasaki’s appearance altered, so did his demeanors. With great recognition from his workplace after the RoseWald’s case, came a new man you didn’t recognize after coming out of your 2 years coma.
He wasn’t kind and gentle anymore. With every wrong move you make in the house comes with scolding, plates flying and eventually breaking, a few slaps here and there. You couldn’t understand what was going on; for a few months, Sasaki turned violent, and you grew afraid.
It never came to this during those dreadful months. But now Sasaki is ripping away his clothes after he came home from his investigation, grabbed her by the waist right here in the entry way of their small apartment, and molesting her, his own sister.
A sob yet again. “But nii-san, this is...” a hand clamped down on your mouth, his red gloves resting tightly to serve a warning to you; shut the fuck up or else. His eyes hiding behind his glasses glared at you.
“Do as nii-san say, and maybe I won’t hurt you as much.”
But your lips are already trembling and you’re crying when his hand let go and reached down to snatch away your panties. No. It hurts. This hurts...
.

Your Winged Protector
Ayato Kirishima x reader
A/N: Ayato and the reader is both 19 years old in this story, I absolutely love ayato so I made this little story, probably its cringe, but I probably make a another story that's a bit more improved or something 😅
Tumblr media
Ayato was your boyfriend for over a year so far, you met at a remote quiet cafe and you both chatted and got together a month later,
Ayato can be handful at times but you love him so much, as you prepare to go out with some of your girl friends for a night out, as you getting change Ayato came round the corner and seen you getting your make up on, he couldn't help but smile as he came up behind you and hugged you from behind.
"be careful out tonight, with this ghouls could be out, who knows if any of them be out" I looked towards Ayato as he looked worry as I place my hand on his cheek as he leaned into me,
"don't worry, I'm in the safe part of town, it's you who should be careful of ghouls, I don't want my boyfriend being eaten" I pouted, as he looked at me and smiled but he seems off, it's like he wants to say something but was afraid.
"Hey are you okay?" I whispered concerned for him as he noticed me worrying as he regain composer,
"it's nothing for you to worry about, enjoy your night" you knew you won't get any further answers as you kiss him softly on the lips before skipping off to hang out with your friends.
(Ayato pov)
He watched as you ran off to visit your friends as he smiled at the memory of the first time he met her, he couldn't look away from from her, he loved her smile, her energy and how cute she was, he wanted to protect her, he knew he had to keep him being a ghoul a secret as he was afraid off losing her but knew he had to protect her if any ghoul shows up, so he got his old leather jacket and went to keep a eye on his girlfriend
((Y/N) Pov)
Two hours of fun all your friends found boys to hook up leaving me to walk back home, as I walked home I began texting Ayato about your night when I felt something was following Me, I glance behind you and seen a creepy guy hunched over staring at me,
Getting spooked by that man I started to walk a bit faster, all the while texting my boyfriend what's happening, just then I felt a shove from the side of me as I been thrown into a alleyway.
I try to get up but felt a sharp pain on my shoulder, I looked at my shoulder and seen a cut on my shoulder, I began to panic as I knew I am going to died by a ghoul
"Aww don't worry, it'll only hurt a bit" the ghoul said as he licked his lips, as he pounce towards me but was stopped by someone kicking him in the gut making him fly into the wall with impact.
"Don't you dare touch her you basterd" I immediately knew who it was, I looked up and relieved it was Ayato but noticed something different, he had wings, and glowing eyes like a ghoul,
I gasped as I looked at him, he quickly glance towards me and his eyes soften relieved I was okay before he brought his focus back to the other ghoul,
The other ghoul try to get up, Ayato finished him off by shooting crystal shards from his wings killing the ghoul.
Ayato glanced over to me and lowered his head for a moment with shame as he try to walk away, "Ayato wait!" I called out getting up, as he froze there not daring to look at me.
Since I was up close to him, I place my hand on his jaw and got him to finally looking at me and I was able see his black and red eyes more clearly and see the beauty of his wings he has out display,
"Why didn't you tell me you were a ghoul?" I softly spoke, afraid to talk any louder, he place his hands around my waist holding me there in place, "because I know you probably run away and never see me again" he whispered so quiet I almost didn't hear him,
"well I'm not running away, I accept you for who you are Ayato, because I love you," I smiled before kissing his cheek, he looked surprised for a moment but quickly kissed me as he held me closer, I melt into the kiss and wrapped my arms around his shoulder and neck, as I felt his wings wrapping around me as well, somehow making me warm, and safe in his arms

The Smell of Rotting Gardenias
Cross-posted to AO3, my piece for @captain-astors for the tokyo ghoul pair up!
Drip, drip, drip.
Hide stared at the flowers before him, watching the dew slide off the petals, drop by drop.
Drip, drip, drip.
A ladybug crawled up the stem, slowly. His fingers raised to his face, brushing over the thick bandages with featherlight touch.
Drip, drip, drip.
Images of a damp, cold sewer came to mind. Blurred images of his feet on the concrete, of his hand on a man’s shoulder, of the drool that slid down lips and chin.
Drip, drip, drip.
The ladybug is caught by one of the drops, dragging it down, against its struggle. His fingers clench in the bandages.
Drip, drip, drip.
He remembers his words. He remembers hunger. He remembers pain.
Drip, drip.
A hand reaches into his vision, pale and slender, stopping the ladybug’s descent. It’s freed of its watery prison, now using tiny limbs to wipe away the liquid.
“Poor thing,” a voice murmurs, soft and raspy but not without a lilt that spoke of extravagance. They set the bug on top of the flower, a petal without dew, and watched it scurry away.
Hide lifts his head to see the owner of the voice, letting his eyes settle on him.
Tumblr media
As expected from his hand, the man was slender- with a paled pallor to his skin that screamed of sickness, if the way his hospital-sanctioned clothes hung loose on his figure hadn’t said enough. Despite this, his hair- vibrant as a damn marker in its purple color- was still neatly combed, styled to perfection.
Strange, to be so well preened in a hospital courtyard. He felt- well, what was left of his mouth- twitch up into an amused smile.
He leaned over to his side of the stone bench, picking up his notepad. Scribbling a quick note onto the page, he tore it off, offering it up to the man.
The stranger startled at first, looking down at the paper with surprise, before reading the message.
“Save bugs here often?”
It’s a silly question, but he enjoys the way the man’s face crinkles with confusion.
“Oh, no, I’m..” His eyes wander, before he coughs into his fist. “I’m new here. This is my first day out in the courtyard.”
Hide’s eyebrows raise, and his pencil goes right back to the page.
He flips the notebook around, letting him read the message. “Welcome to the garden, I guess. It’s better than inside for sure. I’m Hide.” After he’s sure he read the note, he puts the book down and extends his hand.
“Oh- well, you’re certainly right about that.” He takes Hide’s hand in a gentle handshake. “My name is Shuu.”
Shuu gives a small smile that doesn’t reach the eyes, and sits beside Hide.
The silence they fell into couldn’t be described as comfortable, but he took what he could get. It beat someone trying to talk his ear off. The only noises present were the soft chirping of birds, the occasional bustle of people walking past, and the like.
Shuu barely so much as spared him a glance as they sat together, observing the ladybug he had rescued feast upon some stray aphids. Then again, Shuu didn’t seem to actually be looking at much- staring far past the meager garden, boring a hole into the flora with empty eyes.
As Hide expected, the man went just as he came; quietly, with little to say and the shuffle of someone only present by obligation.
Which is why when it happened a second time, Hide found himself intrigued.
Hide had developed what he liked to call a routine during his time in the hospital. The regular rounds of check-ups, bland meals every few hours, and his time out in the gardens- the only time he got to enjoy, to the best of his ability. The outside was, at bare minimum, free of sterile halls and the tired song of heart monitors.
To have a new addition to this routine was… interesting.
As the day before, he had huddled himself up on his usual spot- a cold, rough bench that got just enough sun to be tolerable- watching bugs skitter by.
He didn’t have time to get lost in his thoughts today, though, as by the time his mind began to wander into all those little dark corners, the space next to him was filled.
The glint of vibrant purple in the corner of his vision was enough to let him know who had taken the spot. It wasn’t unwelcome, really, just unexpected.
He wrote a quick note, sliding it over to the man. “Welcome back.”
Despite not glancing back over, he saw the hint of a smile in his peripheral vision.
Like the day before, they sat together in silence, observing the area around them, basking in the warm sunlight. He noticed that some of the plants had begun to wilt- the roses, maybe? He wasn’t sure what they were called.
He wondered if Shuu noticed, too.
Of course, he was still in the hospital. It was only a matter of time before they had to call him back into his little personal hell.
A woman, nice enough but surrounded by an aura of exhaustion that you felt bad simply by being there, walked up to him. “Alright, Hide. It’s time for your favorite part of the day,” she spoke, her words pressed through a sieve of corporate safe vocal inflections. He heaved a quiet sigh, near inaudible through the layers of gauze, as he lifted himself to his feet.
He didn’t acknowledge the soft ‘oh,’ of disappointment he heard, but he did manage to give a half-hearted wave as he was guided back into the building.
Check-ups went as they always did- poking and prodding here, a nasty jab of a needle there. At the very least, they didn’t make him look in the mirror this time.
By the time he manages to zone back in, the doctor seems to be on an entirely different subject. His facial reconstruction.
“We can’t guarantee the success of a voice box for you, but for the time being, it could be a good option. Then, you would be able to talk without the difficulty of your mouth in its current state.” The doctor said- what were they talking about before?- after handing him a stack of papers. He could assume they were.. some sort of waiver? He didn’t want to think about it right now.
He wasn’t allowed back outside that day. He could merely yearn for the spring chill from the confines of a room much colder than the free air, buzzing with fluorescent light.
He wondered if the news was right, about the Eye Patch ghoul being missing. About perhaps even being dead. He wondered if people would celebrate, if that was the case, or if people would move along with their day, as if nothing had changed.
He wondered if the ghoul missed him. He wondered if he thought about his taste, if he felt regret. He wondered if the pain was worth it. And as the night grew close, the sun dipping behind the horizon as it welcomed the stars, he touched his bandages with not an answer to speak of.
It happened again, again, again. But the seventh time it had happened, he was thankful.
Fresh air could only do so much, really. Not when you have all your secrets bundled up in a nice, tight rubber band ball, awaiting the one little slice that will make it go pop . It was a dangerous game, but it was one he didn’t mind playing.
Breaks were nice now and again, though.
As usual- a word which felt all too domestic- Shuu had saddled up next to Hide. With a glance, he could tell that something had changed. Gone were his hospital clothes, now replaced with a colorful cardigan and white dress pants, a white button down underneath. They still refused to fit right.
It wasn’t until one of the cracked, browned petals fell off did Shuu speak.
“They didn’t water it enough.” Was the statement, one utterly bizarre to have unprompted. Hide stared at him, meeting his eyes. He didn’t hold the contact for long.
“The soil needs to be damp all the time. Look at that,” He motioned toward the flowerbed, to the dry dirt beneath the plants. “They really should take better care of their gardens. Hell, I could do it- pardon my language, but honestly. What good are dead gardenias?”
It was the most he had ever heard the man speak in the few days he’s known him, and it made a terrible swirl of joy in his chest.
A dry, cracked noise that vaguely resembled a laugh escaped his throat. Picking up his notepad, he scribbled a note.
“Strong opinions on the flowers, huh?”
Shuu turned, surprised, as if he thought he had been talking to himself the whole time. He cleared his throat, messing with a thread on his pants. “Of course. Anyone who’s spent even a minute taking care of plants would know that.” He said, like it was common knowledge.
Hide slid him another note. “You seem to be really into this. Do you garden?”
He figured it was a dumb question, but found that he was more surprised than anything when Shuu shook his head. “It was never my job, but oh, we did have such a lovely garden in my younger years. I spent hours out there, learning all the meanings of the flowers..” His eyes looked to be a bit unfocused, a contented smile on his face at the memory.
“I still remember most of them. The white gardenia, for example,” Hide watched him lean forward, to gently cradle one of the flowers between his fingers. “means purity, peace and harmony. It makes sense, doesn’t it? With how soft the petals are and how sweet the scent is.”
It was as if the mere sight of a dying plant was enough to break the floodgates, like he had been waiting to spill all his plant-based knowledge onto Hide from the moment they had met.
He couldn’t say that he minded, though.
But it appeared that Shuu had forgotten Hide’s condition, so being met with silence made him pause, shifting awkwardly as he fell quiet. Hide picked up his notepad again, hesitantly writing his next words, before sliding the book to Shuu. “Tell me more?”
And just like that, the light had flickered on again, and Shuu began another ramble. For once in this awful place, he could forget the night’s approach, to be lost in flower meanings and floral history.
But, as it always did, the time to return to their rooms arrived. Opting to do this before needing to be retrieved by a nurse, Hide stood, making a gesture for Shuu to follow.
With great hesitance, he did.
The first few steps were fine, taken in casual stride without a hint of difficulty.
The next, Hide was watching Shuu’s knees buckle beneath him as he began his descent to the ground. For both of their sake, he was glad he was fast- able to frantically throw his arms around the man before he met the cement.
He was heavy in his arms, of course, but he could still feel the harsh press of bones against him, somehow could feel the lack of weight more than anything else. Something in his stomach twisted as he watched Shuu’s expression, his eyes wide, sliding slowly from one thing to another, his mouth dropped slightly open.
Sounds, sorry attempts at jumbled words, crawled from his throat in a horrific manner that drew Shuu back to reality.
“Oh.” He murmured, his grip becoming tight on his arms. “I.. I’m sorry. I felt fine, I swear, I..” He trailed off, attempting to get his legs to work underneath him. “I suppose I really should be going back to my room now.”
Hide wasn’t able to say anything as a nurse trotted over, panicked, and stole Shuu from his arms. He couldn’t say anything when Shuu stared back at him, eyes apologetic.
He didn’t see Shuu for a few days after that.
Despite waiting at their spot- did people start avoiding this bench now? It seemed like it- there was never any show of the man, nor did he ever encounter him in the white hallways of the hospital.
When Shuu finally did reappear, he was back in his hospital attire, his face gaunt, but with a new addition: a wheelchair.
“They didn’t want me having another incident,” He said before Hide could so much as pick up his pen, a quiet venom in his voice. “It’s like they think I can’t do anything. I’ve been getting out here just fine, haven’t I?”
Hide furrowed his brow. He hadn’t expected him to be so… biting, after what happened.
While Shuu marinated in his pout, Hide rolled his pen between his fingers. He was curious, but was it insensitive to ask?
Taking the plunge, he wrote his question and slid it to him. “Why are you here? What happened? If you don’t mind me asking.”
Shuu’s eyes widened, his lips pressing into a thin line. Hide heard him swallow.
“I.. lost someone, and.. my body doesn’t take well to my grief.” He turned away, unable to see the ache in Hide’s eyes. “I’d rather not discuss.” His tone held something more, locked away under layer after layer. It felt familiar in a way that made Hide’s stomach twist in knots.
They spent the rest of the visit in silence, and Hide yearned for words of flowers.
Days trickle down, turning to weeks. It takes a few days for Shuu to start speaking properly again, to which Hide could assume his depression had swallowed him up once more.
It was a rainy day when they did begin to talk again, cooped up in the cafeteria.
Hide tapped away on an empty pudding cup, feeling the cool air conditioning against his exposed neck and mouth. It was quite a bit after lunch, so thankfully the room remained mostly empty- with the exception of the two of them.
Raindrops streamed down the windows in uneven paths, pooling at the concrete sill. Shuu’s reflection was obscured and distorted beside his.
He turned his head to glance at the man, feeling his hair brush his shoulder- damn his hair for growing so fast. He knew that the dye was fading at this point, but only now did he consider the fact that they probably wouldn’t let him redye it until after his-
His surgery. His real surgery was approaching. His stomach did a flip just considering it. Suddenly, hair dye didn’t matter so much. He rubbed a lock of it between his fingers, hoping to will away the swirling anxiety. What did push away the anxiety wasn’t his own actions, however.
It was the touch of Shuu’s hand, brushing unruly bangs from his face.
In an instant, his vision snapped up, eyes wide. Shuu wasn’t looking at his face- just a bit above, at the dark roots of his hair.
“Health and hope,” He mumbled under his breath, before drawing his hand back. Hide tilted his head, brow furrowed. Blinking, Shuu’s actions seemed to have caught up with him. “Ah- that’s- pardon me.” Shying away, he rested his hands on his lap. “Your hair reminds me of a sunflower, is all.”
A page landed on Shuu’s hands. “Is that what they mean? Health and hope?”
Nodding, he looked back up. “They also mean resilience, and good luck. It’s.. fitting, to you, I think.”
Hide blinked, staring at Shuu with confusion. “With your injury, I mean, it- it’s not something people live through every day.” He absentmindedly touched his face, as if he thought his skin had changed to match Hide’s. “That, and, well.. It’s been nice, the past weeks. You’ve made it bearable.”
Oh.
Something in Hide’s chest stirred. Something familiar, too familiar to the point it made him ill.
He rubbed the back of his neck, giving a dry laugh as he wrote a quick ‘thank you’ on his notebook. He hoped that the terror didn’t show on his face.
But it seemed not to, as Shuu turned his attention back to the window, watching the lighting crash in the distance.
The thought of… this , made his head spin. It was brand new, an uncharted, messy situation that could go wrong in any number of ways. But it hadn’t- not yet anyway.
The one comfort he could take was that it couldn’t possibly end any worse than Kaneki.
And so, swallowing back the fear, he pressed his pen to the page, his anxieties pouring out into the cheap ink.
“You remind me of a morning glory.”
The words baffled Shuu, if his expression was anything to go off of. “How so?” He asked, tilting his head, bangs falling around his face.
“They do that thing where they close up until the sun comes out. You kinda do that. You’re all quiet and closed off until you get to talk about something you like, and then you’re the most charismatic guy in the world.”
He scribbled down an additional note at the bottom, in smaller text.
“And they’re purple.”
He watched as Shuu’s eyes lit up in a new array of emotions, before they crinkled as he began to laugh, a wide smile breaching his face.
It was so full of utter joy , joy Hide hadn’t gotten to witness up until now, that his whole being ached with the need to see him smile again. Not that he was going to acknowledge that at this moment. For now, he joined Shuu in his glee, laughing lightly.
After a moment, the man cooled down from his fit, wiping a tear from his eye. “Oh, oh Hide, mon chéri. You’re a delight, and more right than you could ever know.”
The words were vague, but Hide couldn’t be bothered to care right now.
Their conversations carried on, day after day, but it felt different. Like he had unlocked a new level to Shuu’s personality, after wading through the sickly depression that wracked him.
Not to say that there weren’t days like that, of course. There were some where Hide didn’t see him at all, others where he didn’t say a word, to merely sit beside him in mutual comfort.
The time had made them grow close, of course. So, it wasn’t a wonder when Hide began to notice Shuu’s fluctuating health.
Dips in his stability, going from needing a wheelchair, to being able to trot around the courtyard freely, to nearly collapsing again. The way the pallor on his skin would vanish in a night, replaced with a flush of healthy pink.
The way he never saw him eat, even once. How this only happened after visits from his father, or his family’s servants.
He wasn’t stupid. He had already learned the signs the hard way.
He just wasn’t sure if he was ready to deal with all of this again.
But before he could deal with that, he had more pressing matters- his facial reconstruction.
Despite all his stress- which Shuu had spent a great deal of time soothing him through- his surgery went fine. It felt strange to have a voice box, like something was blocking his throat but not at all at the same time, to hear his voice through a speaker.
The face he saw in the mirror was a vague echo of his own, but it was recognizable in an uncanny sort of way. He was just happy to have a decent portion of his skin back.
In testing it, he found that he tripped over certain words, having difficulty with words that required having lips to sound out. No matter, he’d find a way around it until that could happen. Call him a fool, but he was excited to show his friend the results.
So excited, in fact, that he had snuck out of his room.
The moon hung high in the sky, illuminating his path through the halls as he tiptoed his way around. It was quiet at this hour, perfect to slip away into without notice.
As he arrived at the room, he took in a breath. A part of him felt guilt for going to wake Shuu at this time, knowing that he was most likely dead asleep. Another simply hopped around like a child, thrilled at the aspect of showing off his ability to speak. Regardless of his internal conflict, his hand landed on the doorknob, creaking the door open.
Drip, drip, drip.
The scent hit him first. Thick, coppery, unforgettable. The kind of scent that filled your head, that fogged up the whole room and choked anything else out. And the scene, oh, the scene .
Drip, drip, drip.
Shuu sat on the floor beside his bed, his white sleeves kept pristine as they were rolled to the elbow. His hands were stained, glistening with red under the moonlight. His face was rather clean, surprisingly, but his pale pink lips now donned a painful shade of crimson. The same shade as his eyes, now surrounded by a swallowing black that made them stand out all the more, even in his dazed, starved gaze.
Drip, drip, drip.
Hide wasn’t shocked, if he was being honest. He wasn’t even scared.
Drip, drip.
He was just tired.
Crimson met brown, and widened in horror.
Time didn’t stop, nor did it slow down. They simply both fell still, letting the sight of each other soak in as the clock ticked away.
There was remorse and pleading in his manner, a fear so primal that Hide hardly recognized him, an emotion so vivid in his own memories that it made him feel a thousand times heavier.
Hide held himself, a hand gripped on the doorknob, the other around his own waist, as though one wrong move would have him pierced against the door. In fact, it likely would.
It was just his luck, wasn’t it? He’d eaten his words now, and he was left with the stomachache.
But somewhere, buried in the desperate, empty recedes of a damaged heart, he wanted to try again. Foolish as it was, he yearned for the choice.
And so, he took it.
He released the doorknob, taking a cautious few steps forward. Shuu startled, shifting to stand at an instant, before Hide raised his hands slowly.
“Shuu, it’s okay.”
His voice crackled a bit, dry and unstable in its inflection, but it was enough to halt Shuu where he stood, his eyes flashed a fleeting spark of excitement before being consumed by a wave of shock.
“I won’t tell anyone. Promise.”
He smiled, as best as he could. Memories fought to bubble to the surface, the sound of fighting above, echoes through concrete. But he swallowed them down, closing the distance to sit down on the hospital bed. He patted the seat beside him.
Licking his lips- Hide didn’t bother to watch as they were cleaned of blood- Shuu sat down, like a guilty child, refusing to meet Hide’s eyes.
Hide rested a hand on his.
“Did I ever tell you about my best friend?”

This wasn't supposed to happen.
This war should have ended before it started, but that could be wishful thinking. This was bound to happen, it was the fine print of your jobs. Perhaps you two were just too selfish and the universe noticed. Maybe these were your punishments for all the things you've done.
Maybe it was just a nightmare. A really long nightmare that neither of you could wake up from. Anything was better than real life at this moment, and you two were forced to watch each other. Forced to manage the pain each was going through.
This wasn't punishment. It was torture.
But let's start from the beginning.
Kishou Arima, CCG's Reaper. Despite his job being to kill ghouls, he was on their side. He even took up a secret identity to fight alongside ghouls. Something he's regretting in his current timeline.
Y/n, a newly turned ghoul. You were constantly afraid of what you could do to others who didn't deserve to be attacked. But you cared less about attacking people who deserved it but were still scared of fear of getting tortured by investigators.
Before we get into how you met, let's get deeper into your story.
You hung out with Ken Kaneki a lot, you both were baby ghouls. You gave each other a lot of strength, both constantly going through the shock and hatred of what's happened to yourselves. Unlike Kaneki, you didn't know when or who turned you into a ghoul, you just remember one day getting worrying thoughts and urges.
You and Kaneki met when he was on a mission to kill ghouls in the area. He had stumbled across you while you were curled into a ball, noticeably crying. When Kaneki reached out to touch the shaking person in front of him, you flinched away and looked up at him with frightened eyes. The way you looked at the time made
Kaneki feel like they were a victim attacked by a ghoul that got away.
This leads to a weird dynamic between the two. Kaneki would take care of you, while you constantly pushed him away. You didn't want to hurt the person keeping you safe and would rather Kaneki forgot about you and left. But Kaneki was too nice.
You tried to run away multiple times.
The moment you learned that Kaneki was an investigator, you feared the moment he would find out what you were. You didn't want Kaneki to hate you for never mentioning that you were a ghoul. Plus you were conflicted with yourself. You constantly cursed the universe for letting this happen to you and wished for someone to kill you, yet feared being killed by an investigator.
Maybe this was the first act of selfishness. They need to be alive but want to be dead.
Kaneki did find out about you being a ghoul of course. He again was on a mission. He had heard that there was a ghoul out of control, eating and attacking any humans they would see. Kaneki knew these to be signs of either a newly turned ghoul or a ghoul who fought against their urges. Kaneki always hated killing those types, but they were dangerous to the world, and they needed to die.
It was deja vu.
He went through an alleyway. He immediately recognized you. But he didn't focus on that long. He noticed a lot of blood on you and your clothes. It looked like you were dunked overhead with blood. Behind you, he saw a pile of bodies and instantly connected the dots. He hoped it wasn't what it looked like, but from the tears on your face and the flesh around your mouth, he knew you did this.
"Y/n.." The sad tone in his voice made the tears fall. You crouched down and started crying into your knees, the scene reminding him of when you first met. The gut-wrenching screams of regret and hatred were loud, causing even more hesitation in Kaneki. He understood why you two met the way you did. You were scared of yourself and crying. He understood you pushing him away, you were protecting him.
This one time. This one ghoul. You broke him. He could kill any ghoul without a second thought. But because he knew you, because he knew you weren't dangerous and that you didn't want to be, he couldn't kill you.
Kaneki walked to you and crouched down, engulfing you in the tightest hug that you could muster. He felt you immediately grab hold of him and cry harder. Maybe out of disbelief that he's hugging you. Kaneki's eyes were focusing hard on the dead bodies in front of him now that he was looking over your shoulder. The bodies ranged from kids to old people.
None of them were completely finished. Kaneki's hand went up to the back of your head and pushed you against his shoulder. He didn't know, but he could guess that you tried so hard to stop yourself from completely killing them, but the urges got the better of you. Kaneki looked at your still crying form, deciding that he could lie this one time.
After this event, Kaneki allowed you to meet the Kirishima siblings. He had explained to you that they helped him control his urges as much as possible because he was exactly like you, he didn't want to eat human flesh. Hearing that not only was Kaneki a ghoul, but he also used to be in the same position as you. This gave you the confidence to trust the Kirishima siblings.
It's been 15 years since.
Even though some people get over being a ghoul in a few years, you were just now getting to the point where you were okay with it. It's mainly due to the fact that you had to work through the trauma of the screams of kids and families. Every day, you were plagued with those images, finding it hard to move on when you took their lives just because you were hungry. You still have the guilt, but you've constantly been going to their graves and paying your respects. You were the colors and mask of a swan, but unlike the animal, you repelled others.
Maybe it was the uncertainty you gave everyone who didn't know you. Your uncertainty increased oddly enough, not because you were displeased with who you were, but because you didn't know what type of ghoul you were. Ayato Kirishima would constantly say that you're possibly a Ukaku like him, but there was no evidence to prove that.
Still, you trained just in case.
However, you and Kaneki stopped hanging around each other for some time. It was rare for you to see him and if you did, he would instantly leave. At first, you were completely confused as to why and no one wanted to tell you what was happening. But you ended up getting over it due to how busy you were getting as well.
You spent a lot of time with the Kirishima siblings, especially Touka, who you realized had a bit of a schoolgirl crush on Kaneki. She and you grew close due to your relationships with Kaneki and would always be found laughing together. On some days, you both would get together to mutually worry about Kaneki.
Today was the same thing.
You were helping Touka out at the Anetiku, a routine you were used to doing after training. You were a stand-in waitress, and currently, you served a middle-aged man and his teenager, your last customers. The teenager seemed to have a mixture of interests from what you could tell. They had hair that was split but in an oddly satisfying way. Their hair was black on one side but dyed multiple colors on the other.
Their clothes were the same. They had on black pants but a very colorful top. Their accessories were a mixture of black and colorful. You could tell that the teenager was going through a self-discovery of who they were and what they liked. Any time you went to their table for their orders, you would unconsciously catch some parts of their conversation.
Something you felt very guilty about and tried hard to block out so that you weren't imploring on a sensitive topic.
You caught sentences like "I don't know who I am yet", "Dad how did you make your transition from female to male confidently", and "I don't even know if I want to transition." You were able to work out that the teenager was transgender and was seeking reassurance from their father, who went through the same process.
You hoped that at the end of their journey, they would be happy with what they decided on who they should be. You went through the same process of accepting who you were and it wasn't easy, so you hoped they had a good support system. You knew the duo knew you heard their conversation, but since you showed no ignorant reaction, they felt comfortable.
When they two got up to leave, they gave you a smile. You smiled back, wishing that you could've done something in order to show how supportive you were but didn't want to be too pushy. Touka noticed the interaction and looked at you, her voice teasing despite the monotone. "You look like they offered for you to join their family."
The sentence caused you to immediately laugh. "Is that what that looked like?" You were laughing hard, amusing Touka with the wheezing escaping you. She lived to make you wheeze, and you always delivered.
"I hear wheezing, and I know it's not the teapot." You and Touka looked to the entrance and saw Kaneki walking in, a smile on his face. He was followed behind by another person. This person was completely covered. You couldn't even see a small amount of skin. The person was making sure that no one could identify who they were.
Your eyes went from the mysterious to Kaneki who was smiling at you. You rolled your eyes playfully, "The first thing you do is make fun of me after ten thousand years of not seeing you." Touka covered her smile with her hand, finding it amusing how you exaggerated sometimes. Touka walked to Kaneki and hugged him. The hug was awkward, only because they both liked each other but didn't want to mention it to one another.
You couldn't see Touka's face, but you could see Kaneki's, and the blush on his face amused you. You watched as they hugged, completely forgetting that they aren't alone. A sound came from the mysterious person that came with Kaneki. He had cleared his throat, feeling awkward about what he was forced to witness. Kaneki and Touka pushed each other away, unable to look each other in the eyes now.
You snorted automatically and immediately covered your nose, expecting Kaneki to mention it. He didn't disappoint. The moment the sound came from you, he looked at you with a teasing glint in his eyes. "You better not." "Better not what piggy?" You glared at Kaneki and he only shrugged, but you knew he wasn't done. Not with how he was smirking at you.
"Though, I'm surprised I didn't have to bribe you for you to oink for me like I usually do." The immediate laugh that sentence got out of you made Kaneki cocky. He knew how much you loved any mention of any inside jokes you have with each other.
This inside joke was made when you two were extremely sleep-deprived at three am but still hung out. You two didn't understand how y'all got there, but you two started to talk about turns on and turn-offs. The conversation led to both of you snorting out of laughter at the ridiculous things you were saying, but Kaneki took the award for the most outrageous sentences said. "Imagine if your partner asked you to oink for them because it turned them on."
Safe to say that it made your life so much better after that.
Kaneki walked behind the counter and hugged you quickly then let you go. You wanted to make a joke about him hugging you like he didn't want to, yet held on to Touka so much longer, but you knew that would make them awkward. So instead, you just pinched his side and focused on making sure that no other customers were getting ready to come in.
With Kaneki here, that meant he found something out.
Touka went to the bathroom and knocked, trying to see if someone was in there still. Since there weren't any sounds from the bathroom, Touka gave you a thumbs-up. You went to the door and locked it. You closed the blinds on one side of the room, while Touka closed the blinds on the other.
You two finished making sure no one could see or hear inside the cafe. Then you went to go sit at a booth, Touka going over to make drinks and food for everyone. Kaneki and his guest sat across from you, and while you three waited, the conversation started.
"Kishou-sama, you can take everything off now. You're safe here. No one is gonna report you." Kaneki addressed the man next to him and smiled. The person next to Kaneki started to remove his clothing. First, he started with his white gloves, revealing the bony but veiny hands he had. His fingers were long but elegant. After, the large, bulky coat he had on came off next. He had on a white coat, which you found weird because that makes him unnecessarily hot.
But now you could see the black shirt he had underneath the coat. Then the white scarf around his neck came off, revealing that the black shirt was actually a turtleneck. Then he moved on to the mask that completely covered his face. The moment he took it off you were surprised to see a face that you only saw in photos.
His hand went up to push his glasses up his nose as he got comfortable. He had put all the articles of clothing onto the ground, clearing up space for everyone to be comfortable. You didn't show a visual reaction, you felt it would've been rude if you did. Instead, you panicked in your head. You didn't understand why a well-known investigator was buddy-buddy with a ghoul.
His gray, visibly bored eyes landed on you. It was like he could sense that you were panicking. He showed no reaction, he just nodded his head in greeting and then looked back at Kaneki.
When Touka came back and put the drinks and food on the table and got settled in, the meeting started. Kaneki and Kishou explained the reason for their visit and how Touka and you needed to inform all the ghouls you possibly could. The CCG was planning an attack and everyone needed to be ready.
Maybe you should've known Kishou would become a prominent figure in your life after that.
Kaneki would start to come back around, he said he was getting ready for the amount of fighting there would be. You were unsure about that, still unsure of your ghoul type. Along with Kaneki, Kishou also started to come around a lot. He couldn't come as much as Kaneki because he couldn't let his identity be found out, but he still would.
His attitude towards you and Touka never changed. He stayed professional and distant. It was understandable though, he couldn't get close, and it could ruin everything he worked for. Touka started to tease you about Kishou though. Maybe your lingering gazes of fear could be seen as gazes of attraction.
It wasn't like Arima wasn't attractive, you were just too plagued with the fear that one day he's gonna kill everyone. No matter how many times Kaneki said "He regrets killing the ghouls he killed. He's on our side", you couldn't fully believe that.
But the universe was funny. It gives you something just to take it away.
Ayato had told you that he couldn't help you train one day. He was too busy trying to prepare with everyone in the Aogiri Tree. He needed to make sure that everything was okay, but he wouldn't allow you to train alone. He mentioned that someone would help you train, but didn't say who.
It was a good thing he didn't say. You wouldn't have gone if he did. You remember entering your training room and seeing Kishou sitting down. He was peaceful. When you got closer, you noticed that his eyes were closed. You looked towards the door, thinking of skipping out on training this one time, but he noticed.
"Oh. You're here." His smooth but cold voice made you scared. You watched as he stood up to his full height. "I was told to help train you. You don't know what kind of ghoul you are right? Kirishima said that you could be a Ukaku." You just nodded along, looking at the exit. You knew that you wouldn't make it if you run, but the thought was tempting.
Kishou started to take off his white coat, something you noticed he always wore. He folded it and put it on the ground neatly far from you. He started to roll up the sleeves of his turtle neck.
Was it too late to run? He looked as if he could easily take you out. But still, you reluctantly got ready to train. Usually, you were confident and aggressive, but now you were timid. Kishou knew it was because you feared him as an investigator, halfway through the training session, he stood up straight.
He let out a sigh. "We won't get anywhere if you continue to fear me. If I wanted to kill you, I would've already done it. But we don't have time for you to be acting like this. So, either get over your fear or live in fear and die."
You weren't mad. You weren't even sad. What he said was completely valid. You were putting yourself at risk of dying just because you fear him. Plus training with an actual investigator would teach you what you need to know. Instead of losing fear, you used your fear of him for good.
When you two started training again, he noticed how intense you were and could only nod his head in approval. He was better than you, but you were still learning a lot.
It became a ritual.
You two would train together since Ayato was constantly busy. Especially now that Kishou has revealed the name of the operation, Owl Suppression Operation, and the full details of what the operation was. You were getting no closer to discovering your ghoul identity. You showed constant frustration with this, even though everyone repeatedly said to be patient and to wait.
You just felt useless. Again, the universe is cruel. In your time of feeling like you were a burden, Kishou was there for you. He would enter Anteiku and awkwardly ask you to sit with him. At first, you would look at him weirdly and decline. It seemed that when you declined, he would let out a breath of relief and get up to leave.
By that, you knew he was set up by someone to give you company against his will. But the sight of him being happy to not deal with you rubbed you the wrong way, even though you knew he would act the same to everyone else. So, you started to accept his invitations.
You would instantly regret the decision once you two were surrounded by awkwardness. He was distantly cold, and you hated that. So after ten minutes, you would get up and go back to work. Every time, you saw how he would be less tensed up. Maybe he just genuinely hated interaction that couldn't be calculated or controlled by him.
But an odd thing started to happen.
His silent and distant company did wonders. You started to feel more comfortable with him. His behavior was a break from everyone constantly questioning you or reassuring you. He was content, well kind of, with letting you sit down and didn't bother bringing up anything you worried about.
Maybe this was where the universe noticed that it made a mistake. You didn't know when, or how, but you craved Kishou's company over anyone else's. Instead of him asking you to sit with him, you started to ask him to keep you company. Of course, it threw him off. He was surprised you wanted to stay around him, but he allowed it, deciding that it wasn't that bad. Plus your presence was barely there.
What a lie that was.
You started to talk. He remembers being deep in thought, wondering how the plan against the CCG would work when you started talking. "Kishou, when did you find out your type?" Kishou was caught off guard, but it didn't show. He looked at you, noticing how interested you were. He also knew this probably had something to do with ghoul types.
He cleared his throat, keeping eye contact with you. "I don't know. It just happened." He noticed how your head hit the table, making a thud. You groaned out in frustration, sick and tired of being uncertain. "I noticed that you were a swan mask usually. Shouldn't that help you figure out what you should possibly go for?" Your mouth opened in surprise. Why didn't you think of that?
"Kishou, you're a genius. Swans have wings, and Ukaku has wings. Is that why Ayato was always saying I would be an Ukaku?" His mouth lifted up into a tiny smile, amused that you were making what he said seem like it was philosophical. "How do I become an Ukaku?" "You can't control what you become, it just happens. Maybe that's why you haven't found out what you are. You've been trying too hard to do it yourself and not let the Rc cells do their job."
Something that would never change, is how much you hate that Kishou is almost never wrong. He never fails to give a realistic answer and make you realize that you're just being an idiot for never figuring it out yourself. You know he never means to do that, but he always gives such simple explanations and you curse yourself for struggling to figure that out.
Due to that, and the date of the operation getting closer and closer, you stopped focusing on your ghoul type and started focusing on other things. Like you staring at Kishou too long. Touka and Kaneki team up to tease you about it, but you can't help it. His hair oddly complimented his pale skin. It was entrancing to see and made him look ethereal.
Sometimes you wanted to see how he would look with his hair pushed back, but that was the only thing that really held your attention. His hair was pretty and that really was it, no matter what Touka and Kaneki said.
Kishou wasn't stupid. He noticed how you looked at him. But he also could read the signs, knowing you weren't attracted to him. So he just let you be. Though, he couldn't help but get a little happy whenever you celebrated getting a tiny victory over him. It surprisingly caused him a lot less stress than you being worried over anything.
Maybe Kishou only noticed your staring because he stared as well.
He found it interesting how you would make weird sounds whenever you laughed or when you lost balance due to laughing too hard. He was amused with your questions about him, sometimes the questioning not making sense. They varied from "Do you ever wonder if you're getting old? You know, with your hair being white." to "How come you have different Kagune's like Kaneki? Are you two related?"
It was weird how many times you asked about the connection between him and Kaneki. Your reason was mainly that they both had too many similarities. You would accuse them of being long-lost brothers despite them proving that they had no connection to each other.
That's when he should've realized.
He was so focused on everything and everyone else, that he couldn't see his own growing feelings. He should've noticed that his guard was being let down. He let out laughs and smiles more in your company, yet he didn't realize that. He got too caught up and realized when it was too late.
Maybe it was punishment for taking too long.
Soon you both started being weird. You would stop hanging around Kishou, finding it awkward. No, awkward isn't the right word, you found it rude. Kishou was helping you anytime he could, and here you were gaining feelings. Slowly, but surely. It was immediately noticed.
Ayato first noticed it, but only because you allowed him to. He remembers being at the Anteiku and eating when you suddenly sat down across from him. He saw how nervous and desperate you seemed and sighed, knowing you weren't gonna let him decline anything you asked. "Come back to training me please."
Ayato nodded instantly, which shocked you. He noticed the shock and only shrugged "I don't feel like hearing you constantly whine. But why do you want me to do it? You were perfectly fine with Arima weren't you?" He notice you flinch at the sound of the name and rolled his eyes. He knew what this meant. He had to deal with it when Kaneki first realized he liked Touka.
"I don't want to know." Ayato stood up, completely losing his appetite. He didn't need to or have to deal with any more people being into each other, but not making any moves.
You would've been hurt if he didn't just grant your wish. He could be grumpy all he wants, he gave you what you want.
The next person to realize what was happening was Touka. Every time Kaneki and Kishou would come into the cafe, suddenly you were ducked behind the counter and asking her not to expose you. There were multiple times when she almost did, but she was a good friend. Though as for revenge for making her hide you, she would find multiple reasons to say Kishou's name when you least expected it.
You would be taking orders and here comes Touka. She would whisper in your ear, making it seem like she's telling you something about the cafe in front of the customers but really she's just saying "Kishou was breathing earlier." Yes, she made sure that it never made sense. She just loved to see you in the same situation you made fun of her and Kaneki for.
Speaking of Kaneki, he didn't notice your behavior. Either he was too busy to notice or he was too focused on Touka. However, you guessed Touka revealed to him your steadily growing feelings for Kishou. At first, Kaneki didn't believe her, but he was instantly convinced.
There was another meeting being held, this time all of the Aogiri Tree members were present. The discussion was being held about any final adjustments to be made. However, Kaneki noticed how your eyes kept drifting to a highly focused Kishou. He watched as your eyes traveled from his hair to his hands, the process of getting there being stopped occasionally by you getting distracted by his other features.
However, he also noticed something no one else could see. He saw how Kishou was tense. He was always tense, but never this much. Kaneki instantly knew that Kishou knew that you were looking at him. But he didn't seem tense because he disliked it. Kishou was known for being honest and blunt about what he didn't like, and this would be no different.
Kaneki knew Kishou liked it enough to not tell you to stop. He could only smirk as he came up with a way to tease you. He didn't stall on that either. The moment the meeting was over and everyone went back to where they needed to go, Anteiku was filled with only you, Kaneki, Touka, and Ayato.
You were cleaning up the tables like you were supposed to while Touka threw away the trash. You two just automatically split the chores, something that was learned after months of the same routine. Kaneki didn't care though. He leaned against the table, much to your dismay. "Ken. Get off the table, I'm cleaning." You stuck your tongue out at him as you spoke, but he didn't automatically respond.
Usually, he gave you a witty remark, but he didn't, which worried you more than you cared to admit. Though that care instantly drained when he opened his mouth. "No matter how much you clean, your reflection won't change. It, unfortunately, can't capture the look of hopeless pining." You froze while you cleaned the table. You continued to stare at the table, seeing your reflection wasn't helping.
The Kirishima siblings lost interest in what they were doing and focused on you and Kaneki. This was the first time your noticeable feelings for Kishou were mentioned, and you were obviously taking it bad. "....What are you talking about?" Kaneki stood up straight, noticing your unmoving body. He had two options: poke fun at you or be a nice friend.
For once, he would choose the former.
"After all this time and years of poking fun of me and Touka. Calling it a schoolgirl crush. Now, here you are. Crushing on someone just like a schoolgirl crush." Ayato had covered his mouth, not wanting to let you hear him laughing at you. Your hands were clenched into fists. Kaneki was right. This was your karma for all that you've done.
You sighed, letting your eyes land on Kaneki. He saw the sadness and disbelief in you and could only sigh before patting your head. "Well I can tell you one thing, he's noticed but he doesn't hate it." That caught your attention, but Kaneki only started to walk away. "Wait! Hold on! Come back!" Kaneki only waved at you, leaving like he didn't just drop a bombshell on you.
Well, now you have a lot to think about.
Kishou was thinking a lot around this time as well. He was constantly working but wasn't focused. Something that everyone noticed but decided not to mention for fear of what he might say. His task, with Kaneki, was to sabotage anything that the CCG had prepared for the operation. Currently, he was unable to effectively do it, causing a lot of frustration in his partner in crime.
"Are you that emotionally constipated that you're struggling with your own?" Kishou looked over at Kaneki who was staring at him with a raised eyebrow. It was silent between them for a little, Kaneki realizing that Kishou barely understood anything. "Never mind." A big, dramatic sigh escaped Kaneki, but he went back to what he was doing.
Kishou followed suit, not entirely concerned with what was said. Though, he should've been. Maybe he could've stopped a disaster before it even started.
Kishou started to notice that he only ever trained with you now. He couldn't and didn't want to train with anyone else. He didn't understand why. He always gave the excuse of "Sorry, I need someone that's actually challenging" but that wasn't true about you. You were the weakest person he knew, and he didn't gain anything from training with you, but he still declined every invitation.
If you couldn't train, he wouldn't train at all. Kishou noticed this only when many CCG members started to complain openly that he was mocking them. He, of course, showed that he wasn't surprised by this information, but on the inside, it didn't make sense. Why did he train with you but no one else?
Kishou also noticed how he would occasionally look over your body. Before, he used to do it because he needed to asses what you should work on for the session. Now, he has no reason to, especially not in the middle of the session. Yet, he still does it and he knows you know because you would get awfully quiet and wouldn't look him in the eyes. Is he making you feel the way you make him feel when you stare at him? If so, why doesn't he hate that?
Why does he continue to do it, despite knowing how you're gonna react? He would subconsciously tell himself that it was because he enjoyed your reaction, but he wouldn't accept that. It was out of character for him. However, he knew that every time he did it, he would be smirking a little.
He remembers Ayato telling him to admit that he likes you to himself. Ayato sounded extremely tired of everything, and seemingly "Your unawareness that you like Y/n and their inability to completely accept that they like you is stressing me out more than preparations." was the main cause of it. Ayato had started to walk away after that, mumbling that he needed to sleep.
Kishou, weeks after that, continuously contemplated over if he really did like you. He thought he was exempt from experiencing romantic feelings. It was something he was okay with, but having romantic feelings was completely out of his expertise. Luckily, since preparations were coming to a close on both sides, Kishou had time to himself to think about everything.
He finally accepted the reality that he did have some sort of feelings for you, but there was no time for romance, especially on a battlefield. That's what he said, but he sang a different tune two days away from the start of a war.
He had visited the Aogiri Tree for the last time. He was walking around and getting details about any last-minute adjustments made. But his task was interrupted by the scream of his name. "KISHOU!" Kishou turned around and saw you running to him, smiling in absolute delight.
He liked your smile more than he could've thought. These feelings enhanced his attraction to you the more you did normal things like smile or speak. He was fed up with it, but didn't mind it. Kishou bowed at the people he was previously talking to and walked up to you to meet you halfway. Here he goes again, putting you above everyone else instantly.
You didn't stop running. Actually, you ran past him, but grabbed onto his arm and dragged him in the direction of your training room. "I have to show you something really cool!" Usually, he would protest getting pulled like this, but he allowed you.
Again, feelings were weird. Is this why people call it a weakness?
Kishou stayed silent and just accepted his fate. Once you got into the training room, you closed the door and started to push him away from you. Kishou didn't say anything, just watched. As he watched, he watched something incredible happen. Maybe it was just incredible because it was you.
He saw wings start to take form near your shoulders. His mouth dropped in shock. You were taking the form of an Ukaku right in front of his eyes with the happiest smile on your face. Once the wings fully formed, you two made eye contact and he could see happy tears start to form. His face shifted into one of pure happiness for you, his small smile meaning the world to you.
"It finally happened, huh? When did it?" He watched as you floated and spun around the room, gleefully laughing. He stood standing, watching as you finally enjoyed your ghoul identity. "It happened weeks ago, but you weren't here to see. Ayato's been teaching me how to fight as an Ukaku. I was running when I heard you were in the area and I needed to show you!"
Kishou watched as you got back onto the ground and your wings started to disappear. He didn't think anyone could pull off being an Ukaku as beautifully as you. 'But that's biased thinking.' He thought to himself. Kishou watched as your excitement rose again, but he wasn't ready for what you were gonna do.
You jumped onto him, hugging him tightly. He didn't stumble, but he was caught off guard. He just wrapped his arms around you confused and hugged back. You pulled away from the hug slightly and smiled at him, causing nerves to flow through him a little. "Thank you Kishou for telling me something extremely simple that actually helped me. Oh and also for training with me all those months."
Kishou only nodded. He couldn't focus on anything around him or what you were saying. Your eyes shone bright, happiness completely filling them. Your arms were around his neck, holding him like he truly saved your life. But what has his attention the most, was your lips that showed him smiles because he did something right.
Maybe it was okay for a little romance. He could indulge a little in his wants for once. Then after the fight, you two could talk about it more. But would you be okay with that? Ayato's words from weeks ago replay in his head, reminding him that you did in fact like him.
Maybe he should. He would regret it if he didn't.
Without even thinking, Kishou connected your lips. Your eyes widened from the sudden kiss but stayed wide due to the softness of how he was kissing you. Your eyes slowly closed, kissing him just as softly as he was kissing you. The kiss was delicate, representing the feelings you had for each other.
You pulled away from each other. His glasses were a little foggy, causing you to laugh. You took his glasses off his face and wiped them clean with your shirt. Before you put them on his face, you looked at him and admired his beauty without his glasses. For Kishou, all he could see was a blurry image, but he could feel that you were smiling at him.
His clear vision came back as you put them back on his face and your hands went down to his cheek, caressing him as gently as you kissed. The air around you two was a soft blanket of hope.
But that blanket would soon be ripped off of you, exposing you to the harsh and cold reality of the world. Because here you two were on the battlefield. He was appearing as the One-Eyed King, fighting against the most powerful CCG members while you were in the air, fighting against the weaker ones.
Everyone was fighting with their blood, sweat, and tears. Everyone would get back up after getting knocked down repeatedly. But the thunder that struck signaled a change in the war. At first, the ghouls had the upper hand. But then the CCG started to gain it.
All around you were the screams of excruciating pain. Ghouls were falling back to back. Sure the number of ghouls was overpowering, but the numbers were quickly falling. No one understood what was happening, and Kishou was also confused. But still, the fight continued, and the ghouls attack more ferociously than before. They mutually agreed that whatever was taking out the ghouls needed to be taken out fast.
You were fighting effectively in the air, the training with Ayato helping you out. But something went wrong. One of your wings got attacked, but instead of being unharmed, it completely disappeared. You let out a yelp, having only one wing barely keeping you in the air. But that wing also got attacked, disappearing like its pair.
You started falling, and fast.
Kishou was fighting but he kept an eye on you. When he saw you falling to the ground, he overpowered his opponent and ran to you, trying to catch you. It was wishful thinking. The world was too nice, it gave him multiple things in life, but he was sick of it. It now wanted to take instead.
He felt something thrust into his stomach. He looked down and saw a massive hole. He could feel himself start to change back. He looked back to see who attacked him and saw a smug-looking CCG member. The smugness of the member dissolved when Kishou was revealed to be the One-Eyed King. It was placed with betrayal. Kishou didn't have time to deal with this. He needed to catch you.
He just kept running to you. He caught you in his arms, you were curled up in fear. You opened your eyes and saw Kishou holding you and you smiled. He put you on your feet. He wanted to ask about your rings but for now, he would go back to the fight. He tried to change back into the One-Eyed King but he couldn't.
His eyebrows furrowed. But then he realized. The CCG was planning on making weapons that could cancel out a ghoul's RC cells, meaning they couldn't use their abilities anymore. They said it wouldn't get finished in time for this operation, so he stopped worrying about it.
He let his guard down. People were telling the truth feeling were a weakness.
"I can't believe Kishou Arima, our reaper, is on the side of the ghouls. This ghoul here, you care for them." Kishou glared at the CCG member. He could take him even without the RC cells. But what he didn't expect was to hear you scream. Kishou immediately turned around to see you on the ground. He saw that another CCG member had attacked you, making sure that you couldn't use your RC cells either.
He wanted to run towards the member who attacked you, but he was grabbed by another. They held him by his neck, and Kishou could've fought them off, but what he was told made him stop. "If you struggle, they die right in front of your eyes."
Yeah. Feelings and emotions were a weakness.
He was forced to watch you struggle to move, your body not used to not having any RC cells anymore. You were basically a normal human despite the ghoul trait to you. It was definitely causing you to have a small crisis. He saw someone step over him, noticing that the CCG member was smirking at him. They grabbed you by your chin and lifted your face up so that you and Kishou could see each other.
He saw the tears in your eyes, your body in more pain than he could imagine. Kishou was half-human, so his RC cells being taken wasn't a big deal, but it was different for you. "This is your punishment for being a two-faced rat." Kishou's eyes widened. They planned to kill you either way but wanted to take it slowly instead of having to speed it up.
Kishou immediately started struggling, much to the delight of the CCG member holding him. Kishou was wrong though. They weren't planning on killing just you. He found that out while struggling. It was easier to kill Kishou since he was still human. Getting rid of him now would mean they could get rid of a powerful force.
It was instant.
It was like nothing changed. Kishou starts gurgling. The blood was pooling up in his throat as it flowed out from the cut on his throat. He felt the grip of the CCG member loosen and he stumbled forward. He almost fell over while holding his hand to the cut.
He wondered how he looked to you. He wondered how scared and traumatized you were. But he didn't have to wonder, he heard you scream again. He instantly knew they attacked you for good. His vision was blurry, due to the fast blood loss, but he tried to reach out to you. He was dying, but he could save you couldn't he? He's done impossible things before.
He could save you with his last dying breath.
His body didn't agree. The moment he took one step, he immediately fell to the ground. His hearing was leaving him, but he could still hear the sounds of battle. What he couldn't hear was your breathing. They made sure to kill you quickly, but left him suffering. That's what he thought.
He felt a body next to his. He immediately knew it was you, but he couldn't see. He didn't even know how he got here. He must look ridiculous, he was bleeding out but all he cared for was you. He should've stuck to the fact that romance didn't work out. He put too many people in danger and with him losing himself but also you, he cursed himself for letting it get to this point.
You were looking up at the sky, or at least what you thought was the sky. Your hand was on what used to be a stomach, the CCG members had made sure to put a hole big enough through you. It was painful, but you would die faster. It felt weird, you were too used to feeling flesh, but there was nothing. Your eyes closed, and you lost your senses faster than Kishou. You didn't feel when he touched you or when he held your hand. Even he couldn't really feel it.
The universe was cruel, it gave and gave until it took. It took a massive chunk.
No one knew you two were dead on the ground. Everyone was too focused on the fighting. The ghouls felt a weird need to fight hard for some reason. Their fighting allowed them to win. The CCG members had started to retreat and the ghouls celebrated. But the celebration was cut short.
Kaneki, Touka, and Ayato went to go look for you. They wanted to congratulate you on overcoming everything you went through, but they soon realized it wasn't gonna happen.
The trio noticed you first. Kaneki had to cover his mouth so that he didn't throw up at the sight of your body. Touka wasn't bothered by how you looked, but tears were streaming down her face. Ayato wasn't as emotional as them. He was more curious about the person next to you. He crouched down and saw how Kishou looked.
It looked like he got the easier death, but he suffered by living longer than you. His eyes trailed down to your hands and sighed. The feelings you two held were finally accepted, yet accepted too late.
The war was won, but at what cost?
The next months after that, your funeral was being held. Kaneki cried loud and hard, he was on his knees the whole time and no one could lift him up. Touka cried into Ayato's arms, her emotions finally catching up to her. The rest of the ghouls mourned the loss of the One-Eyed King and Ayato? He cried with Touka, but he cried silently. After the service, you two were buried together. The reason being "They couldn't be together when alive, but they can be together eternally in death."
It's been years since you both died. Touka and Kaneki finally got together. Kaneki became the new One-Eyed King. Things were changing, but what never changed was the anniversary of your deaths and how every ghoul would mourn on that day.
Kaneki had decided to get new pets one day. He wanted cats since they could take care of themselves really without him being there. It would get lonely whenever he and Touka were doing separate things. They both spoke about how if the other isn't there, they started to think about you and Kishou.
So to cure that, pets were brought up, specifically cats. Kaneki had wanted to get cats from a shop, but he noticed two that were strays and that got his attention. One was an orange tabby, and the other was a completely white cat. He had brought them home, and even though Touka got angry, she allowed him to keep them as long as they were trained.
Kaneki quickly learned that the white cat didn't really care what happened. He's never seen the cat play with any of the cat toys bought and didn't respond to any affection. Yet, this exact same cat was always behind the orange tabby. It took a protective and possessive stance around the other cat and would hiss whenever Kaneki or Touka got close to the orange tabby.
With the cat's attitude, Kaneki and Touka settled on calling the white cat Ari, a shorter version of Arima. The cat reminded them of Kishou, and even though it brought some tough emotions, it made them happy. It felt like Kishou never left.
The orange tabby was a little shy around random humans, but once it warmed up to people, it would show exactly how chaotic it was. A couple of times, Touka saw the orange tabby run into multiple walls while trying to run away from Kaneki. Kaneki has caught the orange tabby playfully fighting with Ari, who never truly attempted to play with the other, but dealt with it.
Kaneki called the orange tabby Teapot, it reminded him of Y/n and one thing that Kaneki always remembered about Y/n is the teapot laugh they had.
So what if they both died? They obviously resurrected, and found each other again, but also found Kaneki again. That was something Kaneki would constantly tell him so many times, but it helped him grieve. It also didn't help that whenever he had that thought, the Ari and Teapot would come out of nowhere and stare at him.
They never left, and they would never leave.

I am in desperate need of writing advice!!
No prior knowledge required, just pick what sounds interesting AS LONG AS YOU HELP ME PLEASE MY CREATIVITY IS DEAD IN A CORNER
So i’m working on this Hidekane fic (will be posted on AO3), canon compliant, set after time skip. Hide finds himself with hanahaki because of his “unrequited” love for Kaneki, who is “happily” married to Touka.
Here is where I need help. Do I make it Hidetouken like I originally planned or do I divorce Token (civil ofc) and make it Hidekane and Touriko (sacrificing Yoriko’s husband, the poor soul) ? If I change it to divorce version i’ll have to rethink a lot of vital elements of the story but I firmly believe that Touka and Kaneki are not in love and I feel awkward writing T*uken. If I choose divorce route i’ll have to rethink entire first half, if I choose poly route I have to rethink entire second part. I kinda vibe with Hidetouken tho but idk
The poll will be up for a week, please, ANYONE help meeee! No guarantee i’ll follow the results tho, just really need advice 🙏🙏

you never knew when kaneki would return.
you never knew if kaneki would return.
sometimes he vanished for days on end, weeks, even. he always told you not to worry, that he was fine and that he would come back eventually. yeah, you'd heard that before, and suddenly your lover came back as a ghoul after leaving you worried for weeks. adapting to said change had cost you so much, and his habit of disappearing got so much worse.
but he was right about one thing; he always came back.
sometimes he returned and he was genuinely fine. you didn't want to know what he had been up to, but he didn't seem too damaged by it – mentally and physically.
sometimes he returned and pretended to be okay. you always saw right through him when this happened. yet, no matter how hard you would pry, he wouldn't open up.
sometimes it was barely even kaneki who returned, as the empty shell of the boy you loved showed up on your doorstep in the ungodliest hours of the night. whether his injuries were physical or mental, he couldn't even begin to pretend he was fine, tears staining his cheeks as he stumbled over to you.
tonight prove itself to be the latter.
it had been three weeks since you had last heard from your beloved ghoul, and you had given up to wait for him every night before you went to sleep. it was pointless, for you could never tell when he would come back.
hence, you went to sleep like you normally did tonight, barely thinking about kaneki's absense as you had gotten used to it at this point. there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary as you crawled under your duvets and went to sleep, until a sudden sound shook you from slumber. you sat disoriented for a moment, until you recognized the sound of your window creaking open. hope filled your entire being, and you were wide awake in an instant. kicking off your blankets, you went to the window and opened the blinds to make his entrance a little easier.
but the sight that greeted you wrenched your heart.
physically he seemed fine, skillfully jumping through the windowsil and landing in your bedroom with ease. however, when you saw his face, even in the darkness, the true depth of last weeks' scars became apparent. you didn't know what he had gone through, as he didn't like to talk about it, but it was obvious that it broke him.
"kaneki," you whispered, stumbling backward a little when the half-ghoul flung his arms around you in utter despair. he was tearing at the seams, finally breaking now that he was safe in your arms.
he was crying, tears trickling down his face and staining the fabric of the t-shirt you wore. sobs racked his body, shaking the broken boy to a point where it was getting hard for him to breathe properly. you had seen this many times before, yet it still broke your heart every time it happened.
"kaneki, love," you repeated, a little firmer this time. you peeled his ridid body off of yours for a moment to look at him properly. quickly scanning his features for any injuries, your eyes ran up and down his being. much to your relief, nothing caught your eye and you quickly hugged him tightly again.
you didn't ask questions, you didn't demand answers. you were pretty sure kaneki would answer whatever you asked, but you didn't want to know about his ghoul-ish business – that likely involved human consumption and other horrors. yes, you had accepted your lover's half-ghoul side, but that didn't mean you wanted all the ins and outs of his new life.
ignorance was bliss.
however, you still cared about him deeply, and seeing kaneki completely miserable like that made an iron hand clasp your heart, squeezing tightly until it was getting hard to breathe.
"you're with me, kaneki," you spoke softly into his ear. "you are safe and no one is coming here to harm you."
now it was kaneki who looked at you through the tears that clung to his lashes. the pain in his eyes was obvious, but he still cared about you more than he cared about himself.
"i woke you, didn't i?" he muttered, voice already a little hoarse from the sobs that hurt his throat.
"yes, but i'm glad you did," you countered gently. "you don't have to suffer on your own. i am here for you, love."
"mhm," kaneki hummed, melting into your touch. his breathing was labored, and you could tell his throat was being squeezed by unkempt emotions.
"c'mere," you urged softly, removing yourself from the embrace to pull him over towards your bed.
the half-ghoul looked like a kicked puppy when you broke the hug, but as soon as he understood your intentions he came with you obediently. his motions were ridig with tension, and he was way too pliant for your liking. whatever happened in the time he was away, it seriously messed with him.
you sat down on the edge of your bed, pulling him with you. the mattress dipped underneath your combined weight, and you were quick to lay down and get comfortable. lifting the covers invitingly, you asked for kaneki to join you in bed – which he gladly did.
he shuffled closer to you until his back was tightly pressed against your chest, and he released a deep breath when your arms wrapped around him from behind. he made himself as small as possible, trying to inch even closer to you – though it was physically impossible. the ghoul fit so perfectly against you, as if you were two pieces meant to mesh together.
kaneki's sole purpose was to survive, there was barely any room for some leeway. he always had to be on guard, putting up a tough act and not show any weakness. that was his life.
only when he was with you, he could let his inner battles roam freely. only when he was with you, he could be himself. only when he was with you, he could be small and safe.
your chin rested atop his head – that was how small he had made himself. he was almost completely quiet now, and you assumed his tears had ceased. he was breathing normally; kaneki had calmed down for a big part already, the magic of your presence, your touch, your soothing voice that was filled with love towards him.
kaneki was a monstruous humanoid, commiting atrocities left and right, ending the lives of innocent people in order to keep himself alive, leaving a trail of bloodshed and demise. it uses to be hard to look past that, but you had soon realized it had never been his choice. life could be cruel to some, and kaneki was one of its victims. cursed to rely on human flesh to survive, no matter how much he didn't want to.
acceptance would be an overstatement. you'd never approve of his lifestyle, no matter how much it was beyond his power. but you knew you had to live with it if you wanted to live with your lover.
it was an easy choice.
the boy in your arms had fallen asleep, finally finding peace. you pressed a kiss to the top of his head, pale strands of hair tickling your skin. you'd always be his safe haven, you would try not to judge him for his foul actions, you'd shower him with love and kindness. kaneki might have been a monster, the monsters and demons that pestered his mind were far worse.
but he was safe with you, he was loved by you, and he knew. that's why he always came back. you were his everything in a world that gave him nothing but misery. you were his remedy when the world tore him down once more.
kaneki always acted tough, but he showed you who he really was; a boy, way too troubled for his age, bent down by the weight of the harsh world he got caught up in, a broken soul who just needed a little love.
and you'd give it to him, over and over again.

Uta with a human s/o
Tumblr media
•Uta never imagines he’d end up in a relationship, especially not with a human
•He tried his best to resist his feelings for you, because deep down he knew things between a human and a ghoul could never work out
•He distanced himself from you, but couldn’t get the thought of your precious face out of his mind
•He often found himself checking up on you and making sure you’re ok, and before he knew it, he was in love
•At first, he kept you secret from his friends. But unfortunately for Uta, Yomo quickly noticed the change in this man
•At first Yomo was incredibly disapproving, but after meeting you, he realized there was nobody else better suited for his best friend
•Uta eventually became infatuated with you, and found himself longing to protect you
•The scattered “did you make it home alright?” Texts slowly turned into him walking you home every night
•he even convinced yomo to teach you basic self defense
•Although disgusted by human food, for you he would try it
•Despite making himself sick, he would gladly do it again
•He didn’t want your relationship to be public, so he tried to keep you secret
•PDA was not allowed, and to be honest he liked it that way
•Your touch made him weak and he refused to become weak once more
•But in private he found himself longing for your affection

WARNING: Masochism, biting, slight mention of blood, drinking blood, mention of being eaten.
Tokyo Ghoul, Uta x Human!Reader
Tumblr media
Theet
Love is an abstract concept, no one can say what love really is.
There are those who believe that love is always right, there are those who say that an unhealthy love is not love. Maybe so, maybe certain kinds of love shouldn't exist.
There are those who say that love is nothing but a lie, there are those who say it is a deception of the brain. Perhaps this is also true.
You don’t know.
Love can be right or wrong, and you don't know which side your love is on, but you don't care.
Whether you call it love or madness, whethever is the name that the world give to your feelings is not important. It's so present, warm, piercing at times. It's in your chest, in your guts, in your eyes every time you meet his.
He is dangerous. You love him.
Your name rings out lightly, a call that barely surpasses the hum of the fan at the back of the room. Uta looks at you calmly, a veil of amusement on his blood irises.
"Sorry." You hum softly with a smile “I was watching you.”
“I had noticed that.” His gentle voice doesn't hide a shred of smugness that just makes you snort, but you're too focused to joke with him.
You're sitting on his lap, his hands resting lazily on your hips and yours caressing his face carefully.
Your thumb brushes the corner of his mouth.
“What are you looking at with such interest?” He asks you. You know he is watching you, he is trying to understand what you are studying with such interest.
You are a discovery, for each other.
“Your teeth.” You answer in a distracted murmur.
His face tilts slightly, leaning a little more into your touch, and you know that if you weren't so focused on his lips you'd see a perplexity hidden in his gaze, a perplexity you wouldn't be able to decipher.
"I don't think they're my best side." He jokes. You allow him a grateful laugh, but you're still taken by his mouth, by his movements, by your fingertips brushing his fangs.
They look like those of any human being, yet to the touch you can feel how hard, sharp they are.
You press a little, and like paper your skin breaks.
The game Uta was letting you play stops when he jerks his head away.
He go away, but he doesn't say anything. He looks at you silently with an expression you can't decipher; he could be scared, uncertain, curious…don't even waste time wondering.
A crimson droplet forms on the tip of your finger - it's beautiful, you think. You're sure he's of the same opinion too, especially him.
Inky eyes look at you, ask your intentions, and you can't help yourself.
He's dangerous, you think as your cheek rubs against his.
You love him so much, you think, as your bare shoulder comes to press against his lips.
You don't know if his love for you is healthy, if he loves you right, but you don't care.
You love that he indulges you, you don't know if it's your desire or his. Maybe you forced him, maybe he's hungry and tempted by the smell of your blood. Perhaps you are cruel to him.
Or maybe he loves you with all of his being.
His jaws open slowly, his teeth lean against your helpless skin.
And then the tear, the holes deepening, the blood blooms.
It hurts you, you can't hold back a moan of pain, but at the same time your hands are squeezing his shoulders.
He moans in pleasure, entranced, as if he's tasting something delicious. No, he's tasting something delicious.
His lips kiss you, his tongue licks, he sucks. You feel the blood coming out of the wound, it's hot that it almost burns. Yet you can't help thinking that it's beautiful what's happening: your fusion, complete and total. Just because Uta does it, that's the only reason it can happen.
You can't not love him right now, while you feel it completely, in his natural instincts, in being what he is. His teeth, his ghoul's teeth claiming your flesh.
Then, the grip loosens, and even if he tries to hide it you feel him filling his lungs with air: giving up is a sacrifice for him.
"You're delicious." He admits, and you see his tongue flick across his pierced lips “But it could be dangerous to play like this again, you know?”
Your hands are in your hair now, your fingers play delicately, a slight smile paints on your lips: "Are you afraid?" You ask him softly, a slight defiant tone hovers in your question.
His almost nonexistent eyebrows twitch, just for a fraction of a second, but you see them. His lips stretch a little in an amused expression: "Are you not?"
You caress his lower lip slowly, without risking anything this time: “Don't say you wouldn't like it. Don't say you wouldn't love me like that."
“Would you accept it?”
"Yes."
Maybe he's surprised by your prompt response, or maybe not. Uta is silent, and that silence expands over time so much that you're convinced there's nothing more to say, but in the end he speaks.
"And you don't think about me?" He asks you as if he were jokingly begging you "To your poor Uta who will be left all alone on this miserable world?"
You touch the tip of his nose: "I'm sure my poor Uta could survive."
“Mmh…yes. But eating you could be my last joy and the beginning of my madness."
You laugh, because differentiating a crazy Uta from a healthy one isn't understandable in your head, but you understand what he wants to tell you, you understand his intentions.
“It would be our tragedy.” you say as the tip of your nose brushes his.
Only a murmur of acknowledgment comes from him as his hand slips delicately under the fabric of your shirt, brushing against your cool, bare skin.
“Yeah…too bad it can never be told.”

Tw: incest, non con, forced blowjob, mentioned rape, mentioned loss of virginity, post non con situation, evil!kaneki, angst DO NOT PROCEED IF YOU'RE UNDER 18+
Tumblr media
You let out a shriek as soon as you saw him. Niisan stared at you, after a few minutes passed, he smirked while his gaze stayed on little old you; his younger sister.
You cower even more, shrinking yourself hoping to hide from his eyes, but to no avail. There's no way to run. If you want to run, you need to pass him. You looked down at your own feet, not wanting to see him.
"oh come, on. After all that, you don't wanna look at your niisan?"
You tried so hard to not let out a cry and give him the satisfaction. But you're shaking like a leaf; he raped you. He raped you. Which part of it is consent? Why does he speak of it as if the both of you just finished making love?
How can a brother raped his own flesh and blood?
"now, now, y/n. Be a good girl and suck my dick. I miss that pussy so much, i wanna try the mouth-pussy next. You don't mind, do you pumpkin?"
Fuck, he even use that nickname he has for you. How could he? How... How can kaneki be so evil? How can he bring himself to violate the trust and bond they both have for each other?
You let out a cry when you're forced on your knees and confronted with his cock once more. Standing up and hitting your face, you can't help but feel disgusted.
You turned away slightly, crying. "Come on, put it in your mouth!" He grabbed the back of your head, forcing you to choke pathetically instantly; it is your first time having a cock inside. It's not your fault.
Forcing your head back and forth to please him, you gripped his thigh for support, sobbing and blubbering with spits from so much force. Until he finally comes, it reminds you of the way he shoots his semen into your poor pussy; it's still sore , you thought as you remembered how he defiled your virgin and untouched pussy.
He lets you go, laughing softly as you hunched forward and coughed.
"clean yourself up, you look like a mess."

touken drabble | the last promise kept in my heart [TG week: Day 4]
warning: lowercase
note: celebrities!au (to have a better understanding of the story’s context, please read this), english is not my first language, i’m trying my best, enjoy 🤗
p/s: for day 4 of @weektg the theme was alternative universe and i can’t believe i came up with something like this after watching several kpop contents recently 👾 welp this time i didn’t let the characters have a happy ending but rather an opening (?) or a sad (?) ending because i wanted to try something new but i created a mess instead 💀 so basically i wrote this drabble based on what was written in the link in the note (which were facts also), because i’m bad at explaining things 🐒

❝ please live well as you promised me, touka. ❞
touka pulled the curtains, the morning light shining directly into her eyes, she quickly pulled back, cursing out of anger.
“damn it.”
stepping out of bed, touka walked slowly to the bathroom to clean herself, and then began her tiring day in the apartment alone. touka usually changed her clothes and went to kaneki’s apartment and asked him to eat out every morning. but not today. she got into a dating rumor with shuu tsukiyama, aish, she couldn’t understand why the paparazzis had to make up those bullshit rumors.
she opened her phone, scrolled through a few articles about her, somehow she liked reading those so much, even though what they said about her weren’t true. ayato once told her that when being too tired of rumors like this, absolutely don't read anything, and now she was reading them again and again, literally.
touka turned on the tv to see what was going on, switched from channels to channels, nothing, boringly tossed the remote over the sofa, she went to the kitchen to boil some eggs to avoid hunger.
her old cell phone vibrated on the wooden table, touka looked boredly at the screen. well, it's the manager.
“yes, manager?”
"touka? what's with that article?"
“i don’t know.”
"get dressed and go to the agency, the director needs to see you."
touka sighed, her face was devoid of any emotion. she stepped heavily on the floor, put on a simple outfit, a black hat and a mask.
she was right. the paparazzis surrounded the agency like a swarm of flies. hundreds of camera lens pointed straight towards her, the lights kept flashing. touka quickly entered the building, disappeared.
they got angry and quietly left.
"touka! what is this?" the director took the newspaper with touka and shuu’s dating news on the front page and slammed it on the table, shouting loudly at her.
"i don't know anything, tsukiyama and i never talked to each other!" touka hid her bored expression, receiving a glance from the manager, a glance that was not very friendly.
“you should remember, touka. even though your dating ban will soon be lifted, it will still affect you a lot!" the president rubbed his temples, wearily sat down on the chair, turning his back to touka.
"i'm just saying, the dating news is fake! there is no convincing evidence for me, i’ll take my leave."
touka coldly stood up and went out slamming the door.
she's really tired, wishing she had someone beside her to comfort her, how good it was. it could warm her long frozen heart.
walking slowly down the corporate corridor, step by step, she felt depressed again. she had known kaneki for 2 years, no one knew about this, except her younger brother. both of them rarely went out on dates, just sometimes seeing each other briefly backstage.
“touka.”
she stopped and turned her back. it's kaneki.
“kaneki.” he walked to her, then gently hugged her.
"it’s tiring right? i don't believe that rumor, because you and i are dating." kaneki said while stroking touka's hair, making her suddenly feel strangely warm. her heart that was frozen for a long time was now warmed.
"you can hug me at my house, if the manager sees us here, we’ll be dead for sure." touka pinched kaneki's cheeks.
the two of them quickly went to the parking lot, then drove back to touka’s apartment. she got out of the car first to see if there were any cameras. she should have brought ayato along from the start.
the two went inside, touka let out a long sigh, lying down on the sofa in the living room. ever since he met touka, her apartment seemed to be the place that kaneki hung out most often.
so was touka, always hung out at kaneki’s apartment.
“do you want to eat something? i’ll cook.”
“yeah. you know i still haven’t had my breakfast.”
touka was lying in the living room, smiling at kaneki. kaneki couldn’t help but smiling as well, thank god for giving him and her a chance to meet, so the two of them could go as far as they were now.
he wished everything would stay as it was now, so calm and peaceful.
kaneki stayed at touka’s house until night, then he had to go home because his manager was also going to check on him. sending kaneki to the door, he kissed touka on the forehead, then waved goodbye to her. she smiled and waved back.
what will be, will be.
NEWS: ACTRESS TOUKA KIRISHIMA WITH SINGER KEN KANEKI GOT EXPOSED FOR ACTING INTIMATELY AT THE ACTRESS’S APARTMENT.
NEWS: THE DATING RUMOR BETWEEN ACTRESS TOUKA KIRISHIMA AND SINGER SHUU TSUKIYAMA IS NOT ENDED, YET THE ACTRESS IS NOW RUMORED TO HAVE TWO-TIMED WITH SINGER KEN KANEKI.
"touka, touka, wake up!" ayato ran from the living room into touka's bedroom, constantly calling her to wake up.
she opened her eyes and looked at ayato.
“what’s going on?”
“the things between you and kaneki are now exposed.”
touka jumped up from the bed, eyes widening at ayato. she panicked and went to the bathroom to change her clothes quickly because she would be called along with kaneki sooner or later.
“be careful. do you want me to come with you?” ayato standing at the door nervously.
"just stay at home. i’ll go with the manager."
touka quickly left the house, slammed the door, and got into her manager's car. he looked scary.
"touka, get in the car." the manager frowned.
she quietly got into the car, next to her, there was another person, it was kaneki.
"kaneki, touka. why are you hiding from us?" the manager asked while driving the car.
“well...” touka hesitated.
“touka, let me do this...” kaneki took a deep breath. “we've known each other for 2 years, only ayato knows this."
"two years? which means when both of you started your career?" loud was the manager.
she closed her eyes, this was exhausting.
"how long have you two known each other?" the director once again called touka, this time with kaneki also.
“2 years...” both said in unison.
"so you've known each other since both of your dating ban hasn't ended yet?"
“yes...”
“ugh... my head...” the director complained. "all secretaries and managers, contact the journalists, confirm the news... and you two, i’m not finished yet, especially you, touka.” the director glared at touka and turned his face away.
"let's go home, let's see how everyone reacts."
“goodbye sir.”
the two bowed and walked out of the room together. kaneki saw touka looking very tired and asked her.
“touka, are you okay?”
“i’m fine.”
“you’re back. how was everything?” ayato stood at the door and contemplatively asked.
“looks fine. but the president seems to be very angry when he found that kaneki and i dated when the dating ban hasn't ended. i'm afraid the president will ask me to break up.." she said, sighing and entering the room.
NEWS: AGENCIES CONFIRMED ACTRESS TOUKA KIRISHIMA WITH SINGER KEN KANEKI’S DATING RUMORS. THEY’RE HAVING A GOOD AND STABLE RELATIONSHIP.
comment #1: are you kidding me? just quit acting already. she dared having a relationship with my kaneki while dating shuu tsukiyama at the same time?
comment #2: such a bad person!
comment #4: i found them a perfect match, wish them all the happiness!
touka sighed, tossed the phone away, tiredly closed her eyes. she knew that this was bound to happen, and it would never be peaceful.
“manager? is there anything?”
“the president requests you and kaneki to see each other.”
“what’s going on?”
“okay, bye.”
“wait...”
she turned off the phone, confusedly staring at the tiny screen of her phone. seeing kaneki? what for.
“ah, kaneki?”
“what, touka?”
“can i see you?”
“see... see me?”
“yeah, my manager said so. you can come to my house.”
from a distance, he saw a familiar figure standing at the door. touka gently walked over and hugged kaneki from behind.
“hey...”
“can i hug you for a while?”
kaneki said nothing, let touka wrap her arms around him. kaneki already knew that touka would meet him, mentally prepared.
kaneki removed touka's hands, then he turned around, looking her straight in the eyes.
“touka.”
“yes...?”
“can we... stop doing this? i know this is going to be difficult for you. but things have come to this, i'm afraid, you will be affected.”
touka held kaneki's hands.
"why? why do we have to be celebrities? otherwise now you and i-"
kaneki didn't let touka finish, he kissed her, a kiss instead of words of comfort, the last kiss ending a beautiful love story of the couple.
"touka kirishima, listen to me. in the future, live well. become a famous actress, i will be very proud of you. promise me, don't suffer because of me."
"yes, i promise." touka's eyes shed tears as she looked at kaneki. “kaneki, i love you.”
"yeah, i love you too."
