Ocean's Curse AU

Rex Daggerfin was a mer warrior, his task was to defend his home and his people, a city of merfolk under the waves.

When humans began encroaching more on their territory; tangling mers and their livestock in nets, stealing food and other resources, disrupting daily life with their loud boats, Rex gets PISSED. It's one thing to defend a farmer's fields from a predator, or defend against territorial disputes with other merfolk. Sharks and merfolk are just doing what they have to do to survive. Humans, however?? Their instinct only seems to be to destroy.

When an oil spill happens that leads to many livestock and mer deaths, Rex decides he's had enough.

He finds an incantation to make him powerful enough to finish things at the source: he's going to attack the human sea village and FORCE them to leave. The incantation warns that there is a high price to pay, but Rex is so deep in his hatred of humans that he doesn't care.

He performs the incantation... and turns into a massive sea dragon. He destroys some boats and docks, eats a human or two, and in general causes mass terror.

He's expecting to be treated like a hero when he returns... But he can't turn back into his original form. And everyone is horrified at what he'd become. Both physically, and through what he had done.

He's banished and chased off by the merfolk he was trying to protect.

Rex finds a new home in deep waters, far from merfolk and humans both, and there he stays.

On a full moon, when the magical light is strongest, he turns back into his merman form, but it's just while the moon is high. The rest of the time he's stuck as the dragon his hatred turned him into.

Gradually, the spell begins to weaken. His massive size starts to diminish. He can't swim as fast, and he can't smash the giant metal boats that he once could tear apart with ease. He hopes that this means someday be can go home... But still, his full moon transformation is only temporary.

Emmet Finnegan is a young merman who isn't the most popular. He's not exceptionally fast or strong or clever. He's just... Average, in nearly all respects. But he's happy...! Really, he is!

When his pet fish Sunny the Sunfish is caught in a fishing net, Emmet does all he can to save her... Even if that means jumping up onto the human boat and pulling her free from the deck. He manages to free her, and jumps into the water after her... Just to be rewarded with a harpoon to the stomach.

Just in time, a large scaly shape suddenly explodes from the water below the ship, snapping the line of the harpoon and disappearing with what would have been a valuable catch for the fishermen.

Rex patches the semi-conscious merman up, expecting Emmet to run away the moment he's conscious.

He doesn't. And of course, he quickly shatters the hard casing Rex had put around his heart 🥺

Rex falls for him quickly, and Emmet isn't scared of him at all, happy to shower the giant dragon with love.

There's one thing that partially stands between them... Rex makes Emmet promise not to follow him on full moons. He's terrified that if Emmet sees him the way he was, he'll stop loving him the way he is and will forever wish Rex was mer again.

Emmet promises not to, and he never breaks that promise. Though Emmet does worry that it's something bad...

SOMEONE sees Rex on a full moon though. A young marine biologist/sociologist who's trying to seek out the merfolk to facilitate understanding and cooperation between merfolk and humans happens to catch sight of him while getting a sample of the strange glowing water.

Lucy Rose makes up her mind then and there which merman she wants to meet and befriend, with no idea she's not finding him anytime soon 🤣

But she does meet a friendly clownfish mer hanging around the area after befriending his friendly pet sunfish! And the merman is happy to introduce her to his giant dragon companion!

Need I say more? The three get along very well.

i maaaaaayyy have been thinking about this since. the day i saw abstinence camp. in my defense dexven and lautski are the same ship and nobody likes either of these things more than me (/j) so like. rundown of ideas i had (and one piece of inspo from a gc i'm in)

Stephanie Lauter, daughter of the Evil King: Yeah, I'm just fully reusing Raven's backstory here. Steph's born into wickedness and expected to one day inherit her father's throne and oppress her people and possibly curse the future Snow White. Which earns her respectful fear from her fellow "evil" peers, fearful respect from most of her classmates, and dread from herself, because she doesn't want to be anything like her dad, for better or for worse, even if it means risking going poof. Doesn't really help she's just not a good student in the classes assigned to her and her father keeps telling her she'll be a terrible Evil Queen anyway. Would absolutely prefer to write her own destiny. Her current plans involve doing fuck-all as an adult.

Peter Spankoffski, son of one of the Generic Charming Families: More specifically, the ones from Beauty and the Beast. One problem. He wasn't exactly planned. His big brother has already lived out being the beast and a noble lady named Jenny broke Ted's curse yeeeeaaarrrs ago, so Pete's already seen what should be his story play out in real time. And given the assumption that Ted and Jenny's kid would take on one of their roles, Pete's not sure he even has a destiny. Pretty much ostracized by most of his peers for so obviously not having a destiny. He's the only non-villian not inherently scared of Steph, and when they talk it's all like "god, you're so lucky your story isn't a shitshow" "at least you have a story" and eventually they kinda further break destiny by dating because they are literally just Raven and Dexter in another font.

Ruth Fleming, daughter of The Mad Hatter: @mythuzalasheir3 suggested this one to me and I was so inclined to agree. Ruth is so Wonderlandian to me. She's theatrical, she's eccentric and not willing to turn it down, will just say what's on her mind as she sees it. Taking a bit from the books canon, she does sorta resent Steph at first for her father going off-book and poisoning Wonderlandian magic, but after Pete urges her to actually talk to her as they start hanging out more, she sees Steph isn't as scary as she thought and very quickly gets comfortable turning up her madness and speaking Riddlish around her like she does with her other friends. Speaking of which.

Richie Lipschitz, son of the Wizard of Oz: Yes. I really am making Pete the odd one out. Ruth is Wonderlandian, Richie is an (honorary) Ozian. Sue me. This basically stems from how Richie was in charge of taping the prank in the Waylons/putting on the music, so knowing he has special effects know-how, he is going to have a blast doing the hologram head thing in the Emerald City for a few decades. He also plans on introducing pop culture stuff to Oz, too, not just more science. Nerd. I think he's iconic for it.

(Side note: neither Ruth nor Richie can believe that they're just casually best friends with a prince, even though Pete really doesn't want it to be a big deal).

Grace Chasity, daughter of the Temple Woman from The Little Mermaid: Right. History time. If you're not familiar with the original version of TLM, after the mermaid brings the prince back to shore, a girl from a Christian monastery finds the prince, and he believes she saved him instead of the mermaid. And also she and the prince are married by the end. I chose this fully because she's very proud of the fact she already has an immortal soul, and doesn't have to do anything for a happily ever after other than be in the right place at the right time. She does not give a damn about who her prince is as long as they stick to the script. Basically, she's a Royal out of necessity more than anything.

Max Jagerman, son of another Charming Clan: More specifically, he's destined to be the Rapunzel's prince. He's in with Steph because he thinks it's a good idea to be on the good side of all royals in his class. But not Storiless Spankoffski. He does NOT fraternize with people whose existence could poof away a whole story. For as much as he tries to fit the example of Perfect Royals Accepting Their Destiny, he does still have a target of affection not in his story: Grace. Being much more stereotypically Royal than him, she keeps rejecting him due to not being interested and not even part of his story. Doesn't stop him from trying.

The Lords in Black, the heads of Ever After High: Everyone has a destiny. They're here to run the school and enforce them, and also dictate the destinies of the more ambiguous cases like Charming Number Twenty-Seven or "how do we find a replacement for a character who is dead." They say there's a spider in the basement but don't even worry about it, they'll take care of it eventually.

Webby, the Weaver in the Basement: Basically taking the place of Giles Grimm, her brothers have let her have less and less involvement with destinies over the years, so she's spinning up happier endings that hopefully won't go poof in solitude. Would definitely encourage Steph to follow her heart instead of her destiny.

Henery Hidgens as the Magic Botany teacher, and also former Jack of Jack the Giant Slayer fame: man I just think this would be funny

@lostbizkits i mean as little as we know about how the yatagarasu functions he is literally the perfect example of how the prim and properness of it all does not prepare him for so many scenarios and that’s part of the funniness behind it.

on one hand he gets sent into an au where he finds his edgy fanfic counterpart and sort of just is like “yeah sure i’ll hang with you until i get back home” because how the fuck do you prepare for alternate dimensional selves but he is trying to be nice. doesn’t even explain that shit in his own dimension and then ends up cursed to repeatedly encounter raido in nearly every piece of official material yet is still just chill about it.

on another he’s trying to do his job to the best of his ability and yet gets stopped by infinite banana peels. don’t forget the transformation ability some demons have in in 2 in which one of the things they can transform raidou into is a puppy and he’s just. totally fine with being a dog. and oddly perfectly mimics some of the things he gets transformed into he didn’t need to get into character but ok-

his canonical teams have a mix of uber powerful demons and then ones like mokoi and he has no problem with them. even considers them friends in the manga.

and then of course the best little mini comic in tlm (i swear all of them are canon)

you can call it tragic to a degree that he doesn’t know a lot of things every child knows the basics of, showing how sheltered the yatagarasu is, but this also just helps with the humor.

he doesn’t know but he’s trying his best. somehow. it’s commendable.

think of creative AU ideas - the more dialogue you give to them, the more life they get and you’ll have more room to build plots as you go along!

roleplay blog - you go as one, or more (like me) character or characters and put them on a journey of episodes, any genre (like drama) can happen

musical - just don’t end up like trolls, end up into [fandom mention]: the musical like how Man on the Internet gathered a lot of people and had them all collab the OST (Official SoundTrack, for example Mark Mothersbaugh did TLM music for us) into beautiful arranged music with lyrics!

misheard lip syncs - Mute the movie and record yourself saying something they didn’t say in the movie (stealing another character’s quote counts)

take a character thats always popular, make alt. versions of them, gather them around and have them host a party that will soon go not-so-bad! - someone on the [same fandom mention] did this 4 years ago! they took their favorite character, generated many alt. versions of that character with unique personalities and fresh character development, and spawned them all on a party where things don’t have to go wrong! In case you think this is stealing that someone’s idea, that’s why I said you can change the party’s theme so it doesn’t look the same! the only thing that will make that someone mad is if you copy the dialogues and poses they used in their comic, and thats super not good! :)

COMIC DUB STORY DUB VOICE DUB - voice act a series of TLM fanart, fanfic, ask accs, rp accs, it can be anything to show love for the fandom!

fangame?! - there should be LEGO fans out there who know TLM and could make a fangame out of it! who knows, it might be better than the videogame we have.

okay, now the ideas that can be made BUT may cause negative drama, hate, reports, blocks, and death threats... stay safe please, dont risk these unless you have a passion for tlm x [fandom] (I have many passions, would you like me to show you?! 8) ) . make sure the characters from separated worlds (crossover is like two shows, one story. bricksburg x systar system = syspocalypsestar) are friendship in a spaceship otherwise there will be worse problems

crossover - sometimes i find people who love crossovers and there isnt hate and sometimes i find people who love crossovers but theres a bunch of hate. this is why i only post crossovers on my main blog cause i dont want drama here. i can only post crossovers for those who ask and then post my own ideas on a separate blog. so if a TLM character meets [character from another interest] in their own world or their world by walking into a portal, will you get hate? will you get respect? well, dont let it stop you. post what you love and show ‘em how its done.

fusion - there are people out there that can claim these a “monstrosity”, “atrocious”, “abomination”. dont they even know its fictional? they’re not real, it wont hurt them and its only a interpretation how the artists would see two characters when fused. yet, theres still sensitive ppl out there who calls fusion “cursed images” (end cringe culture for the love of awesome)

HEALTHY ships - this can also go with crossovers. lets say, [character from horror movie] x [character from rpg game]. they would love going to the movies together, however, they aren’t meant to be together and only claimed to be together from a fan. the fan is to do whatever they want with their ship because there are endless possibilities they could plan for their ship. they even like the same food they dont even claim to eat in canon, because the fan says they revealed them liking that food in an rp post they did when the two characters sat together on a dinner table and one had to tell the other a story before they would eat, Lady and the Tramp style. now the two characters eat that food every dinner, causing anger from other fans who yell that they shouldn’t be in this world. the fan didn’t listen to them, because they love to pair their characters, no matter what anyone says.

I warned you guys. I'm also super cranky because I accidentally closed Chrome without saving and I had to do a big chunk of this again... FML Bio: A vampire from the Systar System. Prides himself as attractive and non-threatening, but will fight to protect his friends. Tactical Description: Balthazar focuses on dealing magical damage and offering a utility. He can directly attack an opponent, slowly sap them of their stamina and even incite an ally to take two actions at once. His high HP and Magic Defense stat make him fairly tough to defeat, too. Rarity: 4* Base Stats: Max HP: 141 Attack: 23 Defense: 37 Magic Attack: 146 Magic Defense: 98 Skill: 60 Speed: 74 Luck: 85 Growth Rates: Max HP: 80% Attack: 15% Defense: 10% Magic Attack: 65% Magic Defense: 65% Skill: 50% Speed: 40% Luck: 35% Awesome Skills: Alluring Command Description: Balthazar puts his vampiric charm and people skills to good use. Effect: Allows the selected ally to act twice in the same turn. May also boost said ally's Luck stat by 15%. It is situations like this that make it worth putting her on a team with Balthazar. He can use Alluring Command to make Unikitty use two skills during her turn. In this way, she can transform and then immediately heal, or transform and then immediately shield. If the probability gods are on your side, the occasional Luck boost can slightly increase the trigger percentage of Stay Positive!'s secondary effect. These two characters complement each other's play styles quite well as a result.

I didn't post this here, so I present to you. . .

Forgotten Hero/Curses AU;

Emmet isn't saved by neither Rex or Lucy, so he saves himself right before they go to do so. He gets along with President Bussiness and BCGC to "escape" and doesn't want to see his friends as well due to fear and sorrow. Yet, Lucy and Rex got along and now that the universe is at peace, they are looking for Emmet.

This is Emmet seeing his rebuilt home after months.

Emmet appears to be quite older here, white strands of hair appeared because of stress, eye bags are noticeable and he has a bit of a beard.

His attitude is passive and mostly pessimistic, but still very kind even after the trauma of being under the Dry-ar for months, and no one coming back for him, it was... too much, plus the hopeless feeling about the idea that the two people he cared the most were dissapointed on him.

He hides himself, and lives with BCGC and Lord Bussiness, but eventually his plan of erasing himself from the Universe didn't go well because he was still attached to Lucy and Rex, and at least wanted to see if they were okay.

And...

It really didn't go that well.

I literally just revived this AU and made Emmet very much a bastard because of trauma.

For slight context, those sketches happen after Emmet escaped from his first encounter with Lucy and Rex, being betrayed by Bussiness and GCBC. Emmet escaped and he was so angry and sad at the same time because he discovered that everyone just moved on about him (or that's what he thinks), so he escapes in a ship, and manages to escape, but he crashes in one of the unknown planets and he loses an arm because of it.

This is pretty much nine months after his dissappearance, Rex and Lucy were looking for him without a rest, but it seems that he doesn't have any love left for them whatsoever.

Alt Joseph after the war ended: There should be pick up lines but for friends. Like.

Alt Joseph, leaning on the wall meeting someone new: Dang, that's a nice dress. Do you know where else it would look good? No where else. Because you are a beautiful individual.

Canon Joseph, just after the war ended: *grabs someone by the arms* be my friend or I'll set your house on fire.
