“Did you ever think,” Kyu sets down the glass he had been polishing to make direct eye contact with Kazuki. Or as direct as was possible with Kazuki, who had thrown himself dramatically over the countertop and was staring up through his eyelashes. “that you aren’t the only one who’s afraid?”
Kazuki’s eyebrows rise so far up that they disappear below his hair. “What?”
“I’m just saying.” Kyu shrugs like this isn’t a vastly important conversation, shrugs like he doesn’t have the entirety of Kazuki’s attention laser-focused on him. “It’s something to consider.”
It’s silent for a moment as Kazuki contemplates this. And then he sits upright, the conversation demanding proper posture. “What does Rei have to be afraid of?”
Kyu doesn’t say anything, but his gaze bores heavily into Kazuki.
But the question hangs in the air between them. What does Rei have to be afraid of? He has an apartment, a job, and Kazuki. Between those things, there isn’t anything he could want for. Between those things, there isn’t even anything that Rei needs to do, that’s the whole goddamn problem. He doesn’t have to do the dishes, or the laundry, doesn’t have to kiss Miri’s scraped knees, or tuck her into bed. He doesn’t have to do anything because he knows that Kazuki will.
“Kyu.” Kazuki says on the end of a sigh.
Kyu lets out his own sigh and leans against the counter. “You’re complaining that Rei won’t help with Miri, right?”
“Right.” Kazuki confirms. When Kyu just stares at him pointedly, Kazuki adds. “She’s a handful, but she’s not scary.”
“He’s not scared of Miri.” Kyu answers, a wry smile on the corners of his lips at the thought of sweet, darling Miri being scary. “He’s scared of not being a good enough father.”
The words stir something in Kazuki. It’s a fear that he knows well, too. Miri deserves everything, every happiness that has ever existed. He, too, is constantly afraid that he’s falling short of their precious daughter. It’s not like he has any more experience in this than Rei, not like he has any clue what the hell they’re supposed to be doing. He’s certainly failed as many times as he has succeeded, but those failures haven’t stopped him yet.
“The easiest way to not be good enough is to not try.” Kazuki murmurs after a minute, but some of his bitterness has receded.
The thought of Rei being afraid softens something in Kazuki. Besides the fact that Rei is completely fearless with his own life— though it’s not that he’s fearless about losing his life as much as it is that he disregards the importance of his own life— he doesn’t show too many emotions and when he does show them, they’re small. Kazuki had learned to read all of Rei’s micro expressions though, had learned how to notice the emotions that he did feel. And it was true that recently there had been more of them.
When Kyu responds, his voice is quiet and somber, his words cutting straight through to Kazuki’s heart. “What if he tries and he’s not better than the boss?” Kyu stares at him, intense. “The only example he has of a father is the kind of father he doesn’t want to be.”
“Rei would never be anything like that!” Kazuki defends vehemently, slamming a fist down on the counter between him and Kyu. “He’s so gentle with Miri! He would give her anything she wanted without hesitation, and he worries about her. He would never treat her the way he was treated!”
“I know that.” Kyu answers. “And you know that. But does Rei know that?”
Kazuki feels the blood in his veins turn to ice as he considers Kyu’s point. Does Rei know that he’s nothing like his father? Does he know that the only thing Miri wants from him is just for him to try? So what if he fumbles and makes the most ridiculous rice balls Kazuki has ever heard of? Miri will love it and Kazuki’s heart will melt in his chest as he watches the way Rei tries not to smile.
But at the same time, Kazuki knows that Kyu is on to something and honestly, he feels a little silly for not having figured it out himself. Kazuki had been the one to join up with Rei almost immediately after Rei had moved out of his family’s estate, he had seen first hand all the damage that had been done to Rei and his heart. And maybe it was because Kazuki generally thought of Rei as numb that he didn’t consider the possibility of Rei being scared, but even that doesn’t sit right with him. Because Rei hasn’t been numb for a long time, now.
In the beginning he had been, completely and utterly without an opinion at any point. He moved like a robot, did what he was told, and kept to himself all the rest of the time. It was months before Kazuki found out that there were foods that Rei didn’t like and even longer before the first time he heard Rei laugh. But now Kazuki did know Rei’s food preferences, knew what his laugh sounded like, had seen the warmth of his smile. Now he knew that Rei could play the piano, and he napped like a cat in the sunlight during long summer afternoons. Now he knew that Rei had a quick wit, he just had to listen closely to hear the quips. Rei even sought him out now, inviting him to play games or just seating himself at the table while Kazuki worked on something. He may still do bizarre shit like sleep in the bathtub, but he also valued human connection now.
Rei wasn’t the cold, isolated, shut-down person he had been when they first met. And now that they had Miri, he was changing even more right before Kazuki’s eyes. He was softening, warming, learning how to be responsible. He was learning to give bits of himself to someone else— he just never seemed to realize that he had those bits to give.
“So that’s it…” Kazuki whispers, thinking of all the times Rei hesitated when Miri asked him to do something.
He wanted so badly to make Miri happy that he was paralyzed by his fear that he couldn’t bring her that desired happiness. He wanted so badly for Miri to have the kind of childhood he never had that he had convinced himself that he needed to be uninvolved, lest he bring the same tragedy to her, too. Every time Rei hesitated, or pushed her off onto Kazuki instead, it came from a genuinely selfless desire for Miri to have the best, and a genuine belief that he could never the best that Miri deserved.
It’s so obvious, Kazuki wants to kick himself for not seeing it. It’s so fucking stupid, Kazuki wants to kick Rei for believing that he was anything other than a gift to both him and Miri. He wanted to kick Rei for not seeing how much they both loved him, how happy everyone was when he involved himself in something. He wanted to kick Rei for not recognizing that Miri felt safe with him, something that he never would’ve been able to say about his own dad.
“Thanks, Kyu.” Kazuki says as he stands abruptly, the chair scraping behind him.
Kyu probably says something in response, but Kazuki is already halfway out the door.
—x
When Kazuki makes it home, he finds Rei seated on the couch, controller in hand, tv muted as he plays his games in clear attempt to not wake Miri who is sprawled out across his lap. Even from the doorway, Kazuki can see Miri’s small smile in her sleep, her cheek smooshed against Rei’s leg, her arm thrown over his lap.
“Welcome back,” Rei says quietly as Kazuki crosses into the apartment fully.
The apartment isn’t as clean as Kazuki would’ve had it if he’d been home all day, but it’s also not the disaster he had expected it to be. There was clearly at least some attempt to clean that had been made, and that realization alone makes Kazuki’s throat tighten.
“Have you guys eaten dinner?” Kazuki asks, clearing his throat when his words come out a little strangled.
Rei has completely paused his game and is regarding Kazuki wearily, obviously hesitant after Kazuki had stormed out this morning. “There were leftovers.”
“And you actually heated them up this time?” Kazuki teases.
The joke seems to diffuse some of Rei’s hesitation and he rolls his eyes, refusing to dignify the comment with a response. Instead, he just turns back to the tv and resumes his game. But even as he’s playing, Kazuki can feel the way Rei is keeping tabs on him out of the corner of his eye.
Kazuki continues to stand awkwardly at the edge of the couch for a few long seconds, trying to decide how to go about the conversation he wants to have. When Rei pauses his game a second time and turns to him with raised eyebrows and a frown, he decides there isn’t a tactful way to go about it and chooses to just dive on in.
“Rei, you know that you’re nothing like your father, right?” Kazuki says, his voice quiet. He can’t quite bring himself to meet Rei’s eyes, but he’s still looking in Rei’s direction.
Which means that he sees the way Rei’s lips part in surprise, his eyebrows rising. “What?”
“That’s what all this is, right?” Kazuki asks, gesturing vaguely to where Miri is curled up against him, feeling his heart swell as Rei looks down at her and his eyes soften. “All the things you refuse to do with her— it’s because you think you’re doing to be a shit father like he was, isn’t it?”
Rei is quiet for a long second and this time, the conflicting emotions are so clear on his face that anyone would be able to see them, not just Kazuki. Kazuki had learned a long time ago to give Rei time and space when waiting for a response and so that’s what he does— he waits quietly until Rei pulls together wherever it is that he wants to say.
And even though Kazuki expects his response to be heartbreaking, he’s not prepared for how it hurts.
“I didn’t have a good childhood.” Rei glances up, but then immediately glances away when he noticed Kazuki’s attention. “I was raised to be an assassin. And assassins don’t smile, they don’t laugh, they don’t get to experience or enjoy life. That’s— that’s all I know and I don’t want that for Miri.”
Honestly, if Miri weren’t in his lap, Kazuki doesn’t think he’d be able to stop himself from dragging Rei into a hug.
“I’ve met your dad.” Kazuki concedes with an inclination of the head, his throat so tight that it burns. “He’s not warm or patient, he’s not gentle or caring. But Rei, you are. You always have been, even before we had Miri.” Rei’s head snaps in his direction, his eyes wide as he listens. “You’ve always been the one to bandage my wounds, or to take care of me when I’m sick. You’ve always put my safety first on a job.”
“That’s different—“
“No it’s not.” Kazuki interrupts before Rei can say anything else. “For the childhood you had, those things are monumental. And I’m so proud of you for them.”
Rei swallows and looks away. “That doesn’t mean I can do shit like cook bentos and heal broken hearts.”
“Do you remember what you said to me the first time I tried to bandage one of your wounds?” Kazuki ducks his head a little to catch Rei’s eyes.
“That you sucked at it.”
“That I would get better if I practiced,” Kazuki recalls, completely ignoring Rei’s quip. It's actually not that uncommon for Kazuki to remember that day, because Rei's words had been so gentle and unexpected. For a guy who had been nothing but quiet and isolated since they had met, he'd been so quick to try to encourage and reassure Katsuki. "You told me that trying was all that mattered and if I kept trying, I would be good in no time."
Kazuki watches as the point strikes home, as Rei's shoulders hunch up to his ears in a last ditch defense. He watches as Rei shifts, just a little, as if trying to get away from the thought. But he has Miri in his lap and wouldn't risk disturbing her.
"I—"
"Rei." Kazuki finally crosses the distance between them and crouches in front of the couch. He has one hand placed on Rei's knee, the other gently on Miri's back. She stirs in her sleep, her smile growing as if she can feel both of her papas there. She snuggles closer to Rei. "Don't you see that you've already been trying? That's why Miri and I love you so much."
Rei's breath hitches and Kazuki can't stop a wobbly smile as he looks up at Rei's shocked face. "You guys—?"
"Love you?" Kazuki repeats, laughing a little. "Thanks for noticing."
"Kazuki..." Rei meets his gaze, even if he still looks a little uncomfortable. His hand finds Kazuki's where it rests on Miri's back, warm as his fingers thread through Kazuki's. "Thanks."
Kazuki's heart beats so hard in his chest that he thinks it might break through his ribs entirely. He's been fortunate enough to love a lot of things in his life. His childhood may not have been great, but it hadn't robbed him of simple pleasures and joys the way Rei's had. Kazuki had been able to experience a lot of things and had been able to love a lot of people throughout his life, but he wasn't sure he'd ever loved anyone quite the way he loved Rei and this family they had created. Because this was the kind of thing that defied all odds, this was the kind of thing that absolutely should not exist, but did. They fought tooth and nail every day to create a better life than the one they had both been given and it was moments like this where Kazuki really realized that they were succeeding.
"Now if you really don't want to be like your dad," Kazuki says as he tightens his fingers around Rei's, "You can learn to do things like the dishes, and how to style Miri's hair."
Rei rolls his eyes, but his smile is the biggest Kazuki has ever seen and it's definitively warm and content. It makes Kazuki think his heart might burst instead, but he loves the feeling. He smiles back at Rei, starting to press back up into a standing position.
But Rei's hand on his his firm, and it doesn't allow Kazuki to go far.
Kazuki pauses, halfway to a standing position, hunched over as he looks at Rei.
"For the record," Rei is looking down at their conjoined hands, his cheeks dusted the same pink as Miri's shirt. "I love you guys, too."
This time, it's Kazuki's breath that gets caught in his throat as he waits for Rei to look up at him. "Yeah?"
Rei sets down his controller from his other hand, reaching out for Kazuki. Kazuki comes willingly, easily, leaning into the space above Miri's head. Kazuki has been lucky enough to love a lot of things in his life, but he's never loved something quite the way he loves kissing Rei with their daughter between them. He's never loved something quite as much as he loves the delighted laugh Miri lets out as she wakes up to her dads kissing above her, the way she throws her arms around both of their necks demanding her own kisses.
And he's definitely never loved anything as much as he loves watching Rei lean in to press a kiss to Miri's cheek, Miri's eyes sparkling as she babbles about how much she loves her papas.
The world may not have been kind to either of them in the past, but they were building a new world of their own and Kazuki was certain that they could change, could break the molds that had been cast for them. With enough love and dedication, he was certain that they could turn their future into anything they wanted it to be. And the way Rei was looking back at him over Miri's head suggested that for the first time, he believed those things, too.

Here he is!!!!!! (@theforgottencrow)
Prince Scribble, Prince of Art and Writer's Block.
He goes my he/him pronouns, thought he is gender fluid. Since he's made of scribbles, and also had ecto, he can basically be whatever he wants, whenever he wants.
Be afraid.
More lore and bits underneath! I put a lot of work into this guy...
Scribble is made off the negative emotions, thoughts, and art from Creators. Have you ever hated a piece of work, or erased a line so much? Ever write negative things because you can't come up with anything else? That's this guy.
He started off as a small mass in an unknown AU, but eventually grew into a boi. To try and maintain his energy and negativity, Dream took him in to try and teach him good. Blue and Ink thought this was a bad idea. So, it basically became an abusive family dynamic.
Dream tried to protect him, but Blue would always be weary of him. Ink, didn't really care. He'd sometimes side with Blue or Dream. After a while, when Scribble was somewhat old enough, Dream left him in an empty AU.
Scribble felt betrayed. Nightmare sensed this, and came to see what was going on. He took Scribble under his wing, say he was bound for greater things then what Dream could imagine.
He's somewhat part of Nightmare's group. Nightmare views him as a son, and treats him as such.
Relationships:
Killer - Scribble wasn't found of him at first, but grew to like Killer. They get into mischief together, pranking the others on rare occasions, but mostly just messing with each other.
Nightmare - As said, they have a father-and-son kind of bond
Cross - Scribble never really liked Cross. There's the rare moment they may get along, but Cross thought of Scribble as some spoiled kid, and Scribble thought of Cross as an isolated self-proclaimed warrior.
Horror - Horror has a bit of a soft spot for Scribble, knowing his background. He leaves food outside his room door when he doesn't eat with the others. But, other then that, they dont interact a whole lot.
Dust - Dust and Scribble have a mutual feeling for each other, they just don't hang around much. Usually, where Scribble is, Killer is close to follow.
Design purposes:
The tips of his bottom tentacles are white, and work to take the colour or creativity out of things, like reverting drawings to a blank canvas.
He has a moon necklace, which was a gift from Nightmare. It's supposed to show Scribble he can trust the King of Negativity. But, Scribble is a bit skeptical sometimes.
His tentacles are quite literally made of scribbles, hence the design
He has cracks along his body, thanks to the positive energy from Creators. Some days are better then other, but the cracks shown in the drawing are permanent ones. He wears those wrist bands and belt ro help keep himself together on bad days.
Sibling relationships:
Zero - Scribble is pretty fond of Zero. They get along well, and hangout together when no one else is in the house. Mostly listening to music.
Rey - They get along sometimes, but Scribble was never fully fond of Rey.
Lynx - Scribble loves Lynx like a younger sibling. They spend a lot of time together, mostly of Lynx just rambling on, and Scribble listening
Trixie - If they didn't look so different, you'd assume they were twins. Scribble and Trixie are always hanging out and chatting, being the oldest of the bunch.

Lana sounds like a freaking disaster of a person (I love that) 😭😂
Could you spare more info about her ? Or just about the Black family as a whole ? 👀
Like, Skarlet's and Erron's reaction when they learnt they would be parents, how they raised their daughters and did they raise them in Outworld ? Do the sisters get along ? How would Erron react to his little princess joining the BD ? 🤭
Also since you always insist that Skarlet would love Lana Del Rey, did she name her daughter after her after finding out about her or is it just a personal reference?
AHHHHHH, THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I love yapping about my OCs! 🤗
So, I'll start with her name. She is partly named in honor of Lana Del Rey, though not by Skarlet. By me. Sit back because it's a long story.
During the summer of 2021 (my first year as an MK girlie), I started developing an original story to just help myself write; it was supposed to be kinda dumb and was/is basically an MK fanfic, just to get me comfortable writing, but it ended up quickly becoming a legitimate story. So, I made a character who was my idea of a Skarron baby, and since Skarlet's voice actor is Polish, I just made this character's mom Polish. So, I decided to give her a Polish name, and I saw Lana listed. I thought "Lana Del Rey..." But I also thought of a Twitch streamer Viviana who had a GTA character named Lana Valentine, a messy bad bitch. (I watched her a lot back then, but she sadly doesn't stream anymore from what I've seen. 🥺) So, I named her in honor of both Lana Del Rey and Lana Valentine. 💅🏽
Their first child/daughter is named Elizabeth. Erron chose that name. (I Googled common names in the Old West.) He calls her "Lizzie" most of the time.
When they first learned they were expecting, Skarlet was very happy about it. Erron... was less happy, but he dealt with it and tried to be supportive, but supportive isn't his strong suit.
When Lizzie was born, he was afraid to hold her. (That familial trauma of his hit hard.) Skarlet had to practically force him to hold his daughter. Once he did, everything changed. He became a Dad™️.
I like to think they raised the girls in Earthrealm. Give them a chance at a normal-ish life. Though I suppose they'd probably still do some kind of dangerous jobs for income because that's what they know, and it's what they do best. (And Erron would lose his mind without some "thrills" at least every once in a while. 🙄)
The girls get along well enough. They love each other very much, but Lana is so damn ANNOYING that poor Lizzie can't stand her 47% of the time! 😩
Elizabeth is honestly chill. She's the normal one in the family. She's a social media girlie/wannabe Instagram influencer. She's honestly so boring, and I kind of love that for her.
Erron would literally attempt to murder Kano if Lana joined the Black Dragon. So would Skarlet. I just can't see it working out. And she loves her parents so much that she would just have to find something else to do.
Skarlet & Erron are definitely the weird parents who talk about their past shenanigans in front of the girls' friends, unsettling the poor kids.
If they live in Earthrealm, then they live in Texas! Somewhere like Austin, probably. Erron would only step foot back in Wickett to visit his sister and her family. (She has 2 or 3 kids of her own.)
Skarlet is so overprotective of her girls! Like, overbearingly so. Lana can't stand it, and Erron (free bird that he is) thinks she needs to "let up on" them.
I think that's all I have for now. 🫶🏽
(Lana Black, for those who don't know her, for context.)

...Nina he did say he is afraid of something else except singing so dunno why you thought it was about singing.
Well he is at fault cause he kissed you without consent. He could like...Tell you he likes you before doing something like that
I think she felt 'Wait wth'
Simon you could...Go from living room now and let them watch movie?
Wtf is Sharon doing. Playing horror movie?
I don't think dating someone to forget about someone else is good thing to do
'We just started few hours ago' So I guess there wasn't anyone when Simon asked about it
...Nina don't compliment him on kissing you without your consent
'You never said you like the way I move' ...was it supposed to sound dirty? Cause it sounds kinda dirty
I'm thinking...Wouldn't it be better for Sharon to still have black wig to meet with Rey? Cause now if someone sees him with red-headed woman they would be more suspicious than if they see him with black haired woman. ...It's kinda more complicated with Maggie cause both would be suspicious cause why is she normally talking with woman who her boyfriend cheating on her with? ...Could just start to pretend to argue about Rey every time they see someone though
Ambar is relieved Luna is no longer angry at Simon cause that means Simon might be not that angry at her?
...I remeber I saw some theories that creators wanted to make lumon canon but they decided not to cause of lutteo shippers attacking them over last scene of season 2 and I don't really believe it but that song kinda does seem like they recorded it with that thought and added Ambar reacting too not look too much like that
'Or nobody deserves your love?' ...that is...such a weird thing to say...Did she like specifically meant if he is over Ambar and didn't want to say her name? Still weird way to go around that
'Only one person knew about this' that video is literally recorded at lockers. You know place where a lot eavesdropping happened and you know it? You did some of it yourself? You could guess somebody literally heard it then?
Monica seems worried about that key

A couple of thoughts
We doin' okay, Cats family? We're good? Good. I have one last thing to add.
This is kinda about pro- and anti-shippers, but it's really more about fandom culture in general and just my experiences. You can read it, if you want, or not.
Up to you.
I've been doin' this for a while. A good fifteen years at least, closer probably to sixteen. I've been doing things in fandom for longer than some of my mutuals have been alive.
(Oh Jesus)
And there's something I gotta tell you guys, both as a person who has been doing fandom-y stuff for years and for someone who literally has college degrees in English Literature and Creative Writing.
Being an anti is not normal.
And I know that comes across as harsh and mean and it sounds unreasonable but I'd like to explain what I mean by that.
I can trace back being an anti to two main sources: Voltron and Star Wars. I was never into Voltron or really even around anyone who was but I remember the screaming and fighting over the ships, and I remember the hellish crusade that began when people dared to ship Rey and Kylo Ren together. It was nasty, guys. It was absolutely insane that suddenly people were doing this over fictional ships, that people were being sent actual abuse and hatred because someone wanted the broody shitlord man and the unwashed desert scrounger to smooch. Like... imagine that in real time.
I was not, nor have I ever been, a Reylo shipper, but you know what I did, when that ship began, and I didn't like it? I ignored it and went about my day. Because that's how I was taught. Nothing in the fiction world was worth fighting over. It was not worth getting into arguments over. What was the point?
Then the antis got bolder, started branching out, and when people like me started standing up and saying, "Hey, stop being a dick to people!" someone hired the world's best PR machine and suddenly people who were not antis were pedophiles and abusive and incestuous.
How's that for some whiplash.
This anti movement of berating, bullying, harming, and threatening has been their MO, and it's dangerous. And now, they all buy their own bullshit. They actually think people like me are all out here twisting our mustaches like Snidely Whiplash and diddling kids. Without a shred of irony, they believe this.
Proship only labeled itself that as a response to the antiship, and antiship, make no mistake, named itself first. It was not anti-pedophile. It was not anti-incest. It was not anti-abuse.
It was all about disliking fictional ships that other people enjoyed, and thus attacking people over it.
And it's pointless. It's driven a child to suicide. It has gotten people fired. It has ruined careers, livelihoods, friendships. For nothing. For a boogeyman that doesn't exist.
Sex experts across the board all agree that what gives us our jollies is not at all what we want in real life. There's some wild statistic like 70% of women have had a sexual fantasy about rape at least once in their lives. About rape! That act that most AFAB people have a deep ingrained fear of! And we've used it to get off! Because sexual fantasy isn't that deep. Our brains are idiots. And since time immemorial, we as humans have written just the most fucked up shit.
It's even in the Bible. Humans have been nasty forever. And it doesn't mean shit.
It's in the TV shows. It's in our movies. It's in our books. It's in our music, our podcasts, everything. Being an anti is not the way of humanity at all. Ever. Except for like... maybe the puritans but they sucked so who cares about them.
Antis believe a lie. They believe a lie and they hurt people for it. I am not in any way, shape, or form exaggerating when I say I am fearful for those who regularly interact with me, because I am worried that one day the art they make or the "clout" they carry isn't going to be enough to save them from their friendship with me and antis will tear them to shreds. Because that is how they behave. They may not think they're bullies, and they may think they're in the right, but I want you to look up the Youtube RPF kid who killed themselves over anti harassment. Look at that horrible ask I just got. This is how they behave.
And that is what proshippers stand against. It's a stance against bullying, harassment, threats. That is it. There are plenty of proshippers out in the world that would never, ever think of writing anything involving someone underage, or between relatives, or involving anything gruesome. Because that's not what it's about.
Antis are new in the world of fandom, and they are the absolute root of toxicity. I do not exaggerate. They waste the time of agencies actually trying to eradicate CSAM by sending them art someone drew of a teenage character that isn't real. They've driven people to suicide. They've outright admitted to not caring about actual humans as much as they care about fictional ships. They have shown time and time again that they are not above abuse, vitriol, and bullying. There are blogs that post stories from ex-antis who say they were afraid to say anything different than their anti friends for fear of righteous backlash.
I repeat: I am legitimately afraid that my friends are going to get dogpiled and harassed because they dare to be my friend. That fear is not baseless. And it's all because of the way antis act.
I am liberal with the block button. I try to maintain boundaries because I don't want to see any of that shit as much as they don't want to see any of mine (though only a very scant few actually block me back, which is a joke in and of itself). But it still slips through. And I hate it, every time I see it.
Because this is not the way we're supposed to be. We are not supposed to be at odds with each other. We are supposed to share and have fun and be joyful about some people in lycra.
But because some people wanted to put on the pilgrim hat and play Morality Council to someone who's been doing this for years, I gotta tiptoe around people that think I'm actually out in the world diddling children. Do you know how fucked up that is. Do you know how that feels? To not only have someone make that judgment without any evidence, but to tell it to other people who don't know me either?
When someone finally snaps and starts biting back, it's not out of nowhere. And antis never, ever see themselves as doing something wrong. But they are. They are wrong.
Can I let you in on a little secret?
Seriously, just between you and me, come here.
If you think it's wrong to bully someone because of fiction, then you're proship. That is the long and short of it. No more or less. I hate to break it to you, but that is the only definition, and anyone who says it's something else is lying to you for their own gain.
And sure, there are lots of people who try to hide behind the proship label as they do shitty things. But antis do the same. Humans being assholes and trying to blame it on something else is not new.
The fact that people have come to me and told me that the antis have made them feel uncomfortable, that they're afraid if they do something they might view as negative they might receive hate, that people are actually AFRAID of people in this fandom, is not okay.
There was a fandom I was involved in where one of the prominent people actively hated me and I was never afraid of what she would do. I am afraid of the antis in this fandom, though. Because they have teeth and they like to use them.
Fandom isn't supposed to be like this. Nobody should be screaming at teenagers for talking to adults in fandom, infantilizing them like they're not a whole autonomous human. Nobody should be telling someone to kill themselves because they ship Tuggerstrap. Nobody should be afraid of the other people in their fandom.
Antis, if any of them even read this (I doubt it, but just in case), I want you to look around. The people who are neutral are not afraid of what the proshippers will say to them. They are afraid of you. You and your ilk are the ones causing the damage, and you are the outliers in the entire world of fiction. You're a loud minority that thinks it knows better when it knows absolutely nothing.
Ruminate on that.
My blog is still a safe space from bullying, abuse, and nastiness. If someone is being mean to you, you will always find a friend here. And if you can't say the same, then what's wrong with you?
Be excellent to each other. Stop making people afraid.
And sit down and ask yourself what it is you really want when you make vague posts about people and tell people vicious, awful things. What are you hoping to gain.

Hi I have severe hypmic brainrot and will now proceed to subject y’all to it. Have my various gender and sexuality headcanons. Also I am trans and mlm so you’ll have to bare with me.
Ichiro: gay gay homosexual gay. Ichikukojyushi polycule real trust me I’m literally jyushi. We all may make hentai lover ichiro jokes but I feel like he’s ace of some sort. He’s cis but he’s also he/they because he just rejects gender. Good for him
Jiro: cis straight Chad but like somehow I feel like he grows up into a himbo and wow does that make me think about making him a little fruity.
Saburo: non-binary. They are just too gender to not be. Gender envy right here right now. Yes I have gender envy for a 14 year old, no it’s not weird. Also their fourteen so I have no thoughts on their sexuality.
Samatoki: but like is that trauma I smell? I don’t know man have daddy issues and sharing cigarette kisses with 2+ men is kinda smelling like gay to me? And he’s a lesbian protector. Also cis but literally you cannot convince me he isn’t the best trans ally ever.
Jyuto: gives me gay and homophobic. But I will put him into the bisexuality corner because I can’t deny the truth. Trans man bc his haircut is just giving off vibes.
Rio: TRANS MAN!!! YOU CANT HAVE TIDDIES LIKE THAT WITHOUT RAISING SUSPICION!! TRANS DETECTOR GOING OFFF. Also a sweet southern bisexual man. God I love him.
Ramuda: okay he’s trans and pansexual and do NOT argue with me on this one it is TRUE KING RECORDS TOLD ME.
Gentaro: he’s- he’s literally the non-binary flag colors. Also bi with a fem lean. Pronouns She/He because I’m not a coward.
Dice: instead of gay and homophobic he’s giving trans and does not know what gender is. Bi and prolly she/he/they because once again, I am not a coward his name is DICE. DAISU. NO CIS PERSON HAS A NAME LIKE THAT.
Jakurai: quizzical old gay man. Elder queer. I just know in my soul he’s old and gay. Also like he/she but in the gnc I like being feminine but I’m certainly not female way. But no please jakurai using feminine pronouns but masculine nouns just feels good in my soul.
Hifumi: trans man. Another trans male you can pry from my cold dead hands. Pan or bi bc yes his love of women is different but he literally has gynophobia so please understand it’s not possible for it to be perfectly the same.
Doppo: agender. He was so so uncomfortable dressing as a lady in that one arb event but it’s bc no gender instead of trans man with dysphoria bc jyuto isn’t transphobic. This is not my only argument but “too tired for gender” isn’t all that compelling now is it? Also is he gay or does he too have a fear of women? Like I just feel like doppo is genuinely afraid of having relationships women bc of chuuoku but I shouldn’t think about it that hard. They/He but doesn’t correct ppl and apologizes to them when they misgender him/only use he/him.
Kuko: hmmm non-binary. And technically this man should not be any type of sexual but you know what he gets a pass. Technically he’s not supposed to touch the opposite sex… and he isn’t so like you go dude, be gay do crime.
Jyushi: you can’t even pry trans male Jyushi out of my dead hands I’m right. Also he’s bi. But god damn is he very male leaning. Oh he also gives big he/she/they vibes but also I’m kinda like hmmmmm. Is he just very feminine?? Bc if so me too dude. He/him strictly but very fem gang.
Hitoya: also gives quizzical old gay vibes. He trans because I say so. Literally he’s just so vivacious.
Sasara: gay gay home of sexual gay. Literally have you met this man??? Just so fruity. He’s probably cis but this guy is just so gender. So maybe a he/they. As a treat.
Rosho: okay that is a trans man if I’ve ever seen one. Also like gives off the vibes of a gay but surprisingly he does in fact like women! A bicon if I do say so myself!
Rei: cishet. Like I want him to be gay so so bad but he is not a gay he’s just that much of a disaster straight. He feels like a true old gay man and I just want to hand him the trophy but no I can’t lie he is cishet and would probably kill me💙
Otome: cis but the biest woman to ever bi. Literally I don’t care if everyone and their mother thinks she’s a lesbian I have to be honest she’s a bi woman scorned horridly.
Ichijuku: a trans lesbian. I’m no coward literally prove me wrong you can’t.
Nemu my love, the one woman I would get on one knee for instead of two: trans trans trans please let me have this one. At least non-binary. Please let me HAVE THIS. Also like I love her so much but she is a slightly mean bi lady and Ichijuku is the mean lesbian not the other way around. She would be a wonderfully girl boss mean lesbian though

"Miss Keena?"
"Hm?" Azula looked up to find her teacher, Miss Nano, standing impatiently in front of her desk.
Azula sheepishly hid her notes with an arm and watched as her teacher put down her last math exam. She nearly fell out of her seat when she saw the ugly red '30' at the top of the paper. "WHAT!?" she picked up the paper and nearly crushed it against her face from how close she looked at it.
Miss Nano went on to continue handing out the class exams back. Azula kept blinking as if the grade would go away in one of those. This had to be a mistake!
"Miss Nano, please!" she trailed after the tall blonde teacher around the classroom after school, begging for a second review of the exam. "I don't know what happened…" Well, actually she did know. She had been focusing on Sailor Hemera, Senka and the Shadow Crystal mystery…but Miss Nano didn't need to know about that. "I know I can do better!" Azula followed the teacher towards the door and quickly scurried outside first to block Miss Nano's way.
"Well you really should have," Miss Nano said like she really lamented having to grade the exam. She knew Azula to be a well studied student and couldn't understand what happened. "I expected better than this. I thought you understood the material-"
"-but I did!" Azula exclaimed, though she stuttered to give a reason on her poor work. "I-I just h-had a, um, a th-thing that I had to do that, um-" she gasped when the teacher returned to her classroom and shut the door. Azula blinked and stared down at her exam that really seemed to be burning her fingers the more she held it. "I don't get 30s!" she said just a tad loud for the passing students to hear.
"You got a 30? In Nano's class?"
This was truly the last thing she needed right now. She turned to Mamoru and violently pointed a finger at him, forgetting for a moment that he wasn't used to her usual behavior when she was upset."I don't need this right now from you!" she went up to the closed class door and continued to call for the teacher. "Miss Nano, please. The only way I'd get a 30 in my life is I was...dead!"
"Then I suppose you're the walking dead," Mamoru remarked smugly.
"Oh my God!" the red haired girl whirled around in his direction. "You're still here!?" Azula was very used to their old sibling-like relationship that the words and sarcasm just tumbled out of her mouth. It most certainly did not help that she was possibly at her worst moment right now.
"I was on my way out," Mamoru, surprisingly, remained calm and merely pointed at the doors at the end of the hallway. "But then I saw you shouting and I figured I'd like to see how this plays out. Heard Miss Nano can be difficult."
"You're not funny, and I'm not laughing," Azula stood with a straight face.
With such a straight face it would be impossible to feel anything. But then again not everyone was a reincarnated Earth prince.
"Usagi, c'mon, this is simple math!" Azula rubbed her face in frustration. The blonde in question had let her head fall to the table, over her math book to be precise. "Get up, c'mon!" Azula gently hit Usagi's foot with her own under the table.
Usagi slowly raised her head off the book. "Why do I need to know this again?" She was startled when Mamoru lowered himself beside her, having just entered the cafe. He put an affectionate hand on Usagi's back.
"So that business people like her-" he shot Azula a look, "-don't take advantage of you."
A sarcastic smile spread across Azula's face. They always joked Azula would end up taking over her family's business, except she didn't find it amusing. "You're not funny, and I'm not laughing."
Azula recognized that remembering face on Mamoru's face and was tempted to slip away before he came back to the present. Besides, Miss Nano would have to see her tomorrow anyways. But just as she turned away, he called out to her.
Crap! she thought with eyes shut before she turned back. "Yes?"
"Th-the blonde girl who was...who was with you the other day…?" Azula was sure that not even he knew what he wanted to say. It looked like he was still trying to process whatever he saw.
He probably means Usagi. She's the only blonde I know. And Azula severely doubted he meant Minako. Though that would make it easier...
"What was her name?" his question pulled her back to the present.
Azula cleared her throat and whispered the answer so low it almost seemed as if she didn't want to answer. "Usagi…"
"Have you ever tutored her at the Fruits Parlor Crown?" Mamoru seemed afraid to even ask the question.
"W-well, yeah…" Azula wasn't sure what the hell was going on but she knew he was starting to remember things. She had tutored Usagi on several occasions on her math in that cafe and many times Mamoru had come in to see how things were doing. Azula thought it was more to distract than to help. Usagi was all for distractions.
"Okay, I-I…" Mamoru rubbed his face, frustrated with himself. What the hell was he doing? Was he really asking a random girl about another random girl?
"Are you okay?" Azula felt the need to go check up on him. Whatever was happening to him she was sure wasn't meant to be happening. She walked up to him and reached to touch his arm. As soon as she did they both saw something.
"Here," Azula set a pink milkshake in front of Usagi and sat down right across from her. "It's exactly what Mamoru would order for you right?"
Usagi whimpered and buried her face in her hands. Azula sighed when she heard the small sniffles.
"If it's not right then I can ask Unazuki for something else, or…" but Azula trailed off knowing this wasn't the problem. She rubbed her forehead and stared at Usagi for a moment in silence before speaking up. "Look, Beryl might have taken Mamoru but he will come back, alright?"
"How do you know?" Usagi lowered her hands for a second, her sparkly blue eyes now red and glossy. "I couldn't save him…"
"Give yourself a break, Usagi, you just realized who you were in a previous life. You're not God. But you are a fighter and even though you spend half your days crying over something as petty as a broken cup, when the going gets tough...I have confidence you get tougher."
"You think I can be strong?" Usagi's lip quivered, doubt etched all over her face.
"Mamoru does," Azula said softly. "And though I like to purposely disagree with him just to annoy him, in this case he's actually right. You are a strong girl and I know you will get through this."
Azula gasped deeply and pulled her hand off Mamoru's arm, the latter quite stunned by what they saw.
"How did I…?" but he didn't get to finish the question because Azula began to back away, and fast.
"I-I have to g-go!"
"Wait!" Mamoru called in vain. Azula was gone in a flash and all he was left with were strange feelings and new images in his mind.
~ 0 ~
"No you don't understand - he was in my mind!" Azula flopped on a park bench. Luna and Artemis hopped the bench and each rested on one side of the girl. "I-I felt him actually in my mind! I didn't even know he could do that!"
"Well, Mamoru isn't a Sailor Scout but he was the guardian of Earth and thus given powers he might not have developed yet," Luna said, rather reasonably and calm too. It was nothing to how Azula was reacting.
"He's remembering," she said, truly destroyed just by the thought. "You two said they wouldn't remember anything."
"Minako and the girls remain the same…" Artemis said thoughtfully, "...but none of them have the psychometric abilities that Mamoru does. Rei does, in a sense, but she's another story-"
"Not helping, Artemis," Azula cut him off. "So you think because of Mamoru's powers he'll be more likely to remember?"
"He's connected to the Earth because of who he was in the past and so by extension he's connected to everyone on the planet. This memory wipe works best on humans, specifically…" Luna trailed off, leaving Azula to make her own conclusion.
"Sailor Scouts," Azula finished with a small sigh. "So, basically, because Mamoru was the prince of Earth back then he's more likely to figure things out. That's just...great," she gritted her teeth together.
Luna affectionately pawed at Azula's uniform coat. "Don't fret, Azula, please. You are taking this far too serious-"
"Luna you don't understand," Azula calmed somewhat. A despondence slowly took over her facial features. "Back when Sailor Moon and the Scouts were active my only job was to look at the perimeters, stay on the computers...I couldn't help them out there. When they went off to fight Beryl and Metaria I had to stay here and just...wait. My job was to literally wait and see if they would come back alive."
"That wasn't your fault. You would have put yourself in grave danger if you accompanied Sailor Moon and the others…"
"It doesn't make me feel any better," Azula said glumly. "I was useless to them. I thought - I thought that now since everyone lost their memories and Usagi wanted to be normal...that this could be my job now. I would make sure they were all normal and safe. It's stupid, I know, but...it was my job this time to protect them." Azula paused for a full minute, her sadness overflowing. "But now Mamoru is beginning to remember and...now there's a Sailor Hemera and a stupid shadow hellbent on getting a crystal no one knows about."
"Azula," Artemis hopped off the bench and turned to look up at the girl, "Luna and I can keep an eye on the girls and certainly on Mamoru, but you can start to live your normal life as well. You shouldn't burden yourself with problems that we can solve. You just live a normal life..."
Azula snorted at the idea. "Normal? I'm at the park talking to cats - yeah, that's normal."
"Azula-" Luna began but Azula had gotten overwhelmed and rushed away.
"I'm going to go check on Minako," Artemis said after a couple of seconds. "And maybe we should patrol the other girls tonight just to see if any of them are remembering anything too."
Luna acknowledged his idea but preferred to stay back a little while longer. It was crazy to think that even now things still hadn't gone back to normal. Usagi was living her life as she wanted but outside of her blissful bubble things were beginning to get worse again. This time there were no Sailor Scouts to defend the planet from the evil trying to find the Shadow Crystal. Sure there was a Sailor Hemera but they still didn't know who she was and what her intentions were. Luna didn't know whether to feel grateful that Mamoru was remembering little by little because then that would mean he would be able to help a little...or should she be further concerned because now a second person had managed to avoid the memory wipe - it was still a grand mystery how Azula did it first.
Luna thought about this as she hopped off the bench and started her way back to Usagi's home. Usagi had been questioning lately where her dear old cat kept wandering off to and Luna didn't want to jeopardize her close position with Usagi. It was simply a challenge having to act like a true Earth cat all the time. It was why she often found Azula to keep conversation and her personal mind stimulated besides Artemis.
As Luna went off, a tall girl with long, brown and straight hair walked up to the bench where Azula and Luna had been. Her dark brown eyes glimmered golden for a second. "So you know where the Prince is…?" a smirk tugged at her pink lips.
~0~
Azula shivered as cold wind drew into her room from the open window. She went over and closed it then turned back. There were various newspaper clippings on the grounds with her own notes attached to it. Sailor Hemera and Senka needed to be stopped at all costs. Azula felt like she didn't have the luxury to get emotional. She took a seat on the floor, in the middle of the papers, and began sifting through them to reread what she already knew.
One hour later, her step-sister Keiko opened the door. "Hey, Azula, dinner's read - woah," her green eyes landed over the mess of papers around Azula. "What are you doing?"
"Homework," Azula supplied the excuse quick as she reached for another clipping.
Keiko caught site of some of the headlines and made a small whistler. "About that weird cloud thing and the Scout? What class is this for?"
"Communication - uh, intro to communications," Azula glanced at her sister with a small smile. "Journalism might be fun."
"Though you always wanted to work in something related to space, or something...?" Keiko left the door open so Azula could follow her out. "Sorry, you talk a lot sometimes and I tune it out so-"
"-Dad?" Azula blinked at the sight of her father already sitting at the kitchen table. "What are you doing here?" he was usually tied up with the business that he was rarely home for family meals. Kaito Keena was a man of business, and since he owned the Game Center Crown which was very popular in the neighborhood...he had a lot to do.
"I live here, remember?" came the black haired man's answer. His sarcasm made her playfully roll her eyes. "I'm also the one who pays the rent, so..."
"Okay, okay, I get it," Azula took her usual seat at the other end of the table. "I just didn't hear you come in, that's all."
"You never hear anything when you get into your work," Keiko pointed out.
"Oh, a lot of homework tonight?" Kaito asked.
Before Azula could answer, Keiko cut in with what she'd seen. "She was looking into that creature and the mysterious Sailor Scout who've been making appearances around the city."
Kaito's eyebrows shot upwards, making Azula dread what he would say about it. "Really? Well, makes sense since you always talk about the galaxies and whatnot. You think they're aliens, then?"
"Um..." Azula cleared her throat and put both her hands on the table. "I mean, the Scout looks humanoid. But that shadow thing probably is."
"Oh, but you know what I learned today?" Keiko excitedly asked. "It's actually funny what they name themselves. Hemera is a Goddess of day and light while Senka means 'shadow'. Can you believe that?"
"No, I...I hadn't considered the etymology of the names," Azula blinked rapidly.
"I just wonder where these aliens come from," Keiko went on, "And I'd definitely would love to know what a Shadow Crystal was."
"Yeah, that would be nice," Kaito agreed. "It would certainly help get the two out of the city before anyone gets killed."
"I should have asked that cute little fortune teller at the shrine…" Keiko said wistfully.
Azula raised an eyebrow. "What fortune teller?"
"Oh from the local shrine," Keiko leaned away from the door. "What was her name? Hino Rei? I went in to ask whether or not I'd get the school secretary job I applied to a couple days ago."
Azula blinked. Rei. How could she forget about Rei and her mind abilities? Mamoru wasn't the only one with mind tricks - Rei could sense danger! Sure Rei's mind was cleared of anything Scout-wise but her ability had come way before she awoke as Sailor Mars.
It was a stretch, but Azula would take it.

The Rise of Skywalker | The Rise of Skywalker novelization by Rae Carson I LOVED THIS A LOT.  THIS IS WHY TROS WORKED FOR ME, BECAUSE REY WASN’T FINISHED LOOKING INTO HERSELF YET. The novelization tying the scene on the second Death Star to the cave in Ahch-To is perfect because that’s exactly what it was--the Force providing her another chance to face the things she fears.  That she’s literally facing herself again, just like Luke did on Dagobah, that it’s not about the external influence of this looming figure over them, but about their reactions and feelings to that looming external influence. And it’s why Rey’s fear of being a Palpatine, that she feels something of it long before she explicitly knows it, that she fears something within herself is exactly it.  The narrative isn’t saying that Rey has an inherent dark side because she’s a Palpatine, it’s saying that Rey herself fears she has an inherent dark side because she’s a Palpatine.  This is Rey’s issue to overcome, the one that she baked into herself, not one that was born into her. That’s why Luke and Leia both tell her not to be afraid of herself, why they say that some things are more powerful than blood, why the ending is all about Rey finally being able to internally choose the light and the Jedi, to reject what Palpatine could have meant to her.  Not just the lure of those things, but that this is something REY HERSELF struggled with.  Wanting to belong, wanting to know her own origins, wanting the light, but fearing her own pull to the dark side. Dark Rey hissing Leia’s words back at her, “Don’t be afraid of who you are.” isn’t the Force trying to say that these words can apply to being the dark, but they’re about Rey being in a place steeped in the dark and having to face her own fears about what those lines mean. That this is a purposeful retread of those other scenes--the one on Ahch-To, but also the one on Dagobah, the ones on Ilum with the prequel Jedi, etc.--because Rey hadn’t made peace with herself yet.  She hadn’t faced her fears, acknowledged them, and moved beyond them yet.  She is the one who fears herself (and that’s why Dark Rey using the saber design she had been thinking of is such an excellent way to further hammer this home that this isn’t some outer force pulling at Rey, but the Force going, Look at what’s inside you.  Face it.  Confront it.  Overcome it.  Let it go.) Even before Rey sees the dark reflection of herself, she’s afraid of this place and what it might show her.  That the teasing promise of insight that Ahch-To gave her, only to leave her not having gained anything--that’s not the Force, that’s Rey herself, still struggling with all of this. “She was about to be defeated by her own self, her deepest fear made flesh.” YES EXACTLY.  Rey’s arc in this movie is about her genuine fear of being lured over to the dark side, that something in her feels that pull.  We see it when she’s so angry that Kylo Ren is going to take away Chewie from her on Pasaana, is going to take H E R friend away from her, that she taps into a rage and fear that brings out the dark side ability of Force lightning, it rips across the sky and nearly kills someone she cares about. She panics on Pasaana and doesn’t think to use the Force to get them out of the black sand they’re sinking into because her thoughts are so scrambled. She’s having visions of herself on a Sith throne, she’s tempted by the dark to just make things easier, to find a way to accomplish the things she wants (to help people, to find her place, to fight back against evil, it’s so hard to connect to the Force when her thoughts are so scrambled, if she just gave in, it’d be easier). Rey’s lure to the dark side is genuine, her fears are genuine, she had to struggle to overcome them, and part of that was because she couldn’t bear to do much more than glance at her own internal darkness (the darkness that literally everyone in the galaxy has, that the Jedi have been training for generations to acknowledge within themselves and move beyond, as George Lucas explains that’s exactly how the Force is supposed to work) and Dark Rey is literally her fears made manifest because Rey still isn’t dealing with it and she needs to, she needs to let it go, because that’s How The Force Works.  If you’re not in mastery of yourself, you’re going to have trouble connecting to things and trouble standing strong when you need to. Rey’s fear of being a Palpatine isn’t about how that’s what makes her struggle, it’s not something in her blood.  It’s something in her own mind, because she herself made it a fear and now has to confront that about herself.  It’s why, as clumsy as the ending was, her choosing to accept Luke and Leia offering her the Skywalker name and legacy, isn’t about blood, but about what each person chooses to do and what path they choose to walk.  Rey rejecting the name Palpatine means she has finally worked through how it doesn’t define her, her fears have been faced and confronted, that she finally understands she gets to choose who she wants to be.

Hey Perry, I don't know who to blame, but I feel like the people behind the Sequels were waaay too invested in "strong female character" arc and very much afraid of romance, like they were trying to win the new fans and at the same time calm down the stupid old nerds whoose were "okay" with Leia 'cause they idolize Han Solo and "hey, she's hot" and also only accepted the cliche Anidala scenes for "its how it is, we need Luke and Leia to be born"--- well, in the end, it was kind of a mess. (1/2)
TROS, which is supposed to be the "epilogue" of the saga.. they throw at us so many ships!(I'm mean both romantically & literally) the whole angry Rey at Kylo all the time because of.. what again? They never really talk, right?& Finn trying to tell her something while she argues with Poe HanLeia style but clearly Oscar(poor guy!)giving looks at John and- and- and Rose in the background (!!!) I just.. so many wasted oportunites. I just... I don't blame people being confused with the Reylo kiss. (2/2)
---
Hey there, Anon. I totally hear you. Though, I am personally completely certain who to blame: cowardly white men.
See, based on concept art and the direction of the first two films in the sequel trilogy, I think that they had intended Reylo to be the backbone of the trilogy. But they wussed out. The sexist nerdbro fanbase made such a fuss after TLJ that the Powers That Be backed off from reverse Anidala. The minute you start writing for other people is the minute your work becomes shit.
TRoS was just an utter mess and you’re completely right that the kiss was confusing. They didn’t actually redeem Ben Solo in any real way--it was all smoke and mirrors without any, I dunno, character growth?
I’ve written myself into a corner many a time, I get how it could happen. In a fic. In the last film in one of the most profound modern myths of our time? There’s simply no excuse.
Either way, Jar Jar Abrams is either a complete hack or an utter coward.
Anyway, I’m not sure if I addressed your thoughts properly, but I’m grateful you shared them.

Rey’s Coolest Moments - Top 10 List
Hi Everyone!
Here I am again, ready to gush over my girl Rey and showcase how awesome she is. This is not going to be super serious or analytical unlike some of my other Star Wars/Rey posts; just something fun and spontaneous. I think we could all use a little distraction right now and I guess this is my small way of contributing to that.
Obviously I can’t include all of my favourite Rey moments (we’d be here all day) so I’ve done my best to condense it down into a Top 10 list. As usual, this list is my opinion and nobody has to agree with it or even read it. For those of who are interested, please enjoy!
10) Protecting BB-8 (TFA)
I’m starting this list with a moment that I think is kind of underrated. Right before Rey meets Finn she encounters two thugs that try to steal BB-8 for Unkar Plutt. A small fight breaks out, but Rey doesn’t need any help to defeat her attackers. She takes them out quickly and rescues her new droid friend. That’s some fast loyalty!
 9)  Lightsaber Twirl and Scream (TLJ)
Tumblr media
Oh, you know exactly what part I’m talking about. Rey goes head-to-head with one of Snoke’s Praetorian Guards. As he comes at her with his weapon, Rey gives an impressive twirl of her lightsaber before letting out a bad-ass, feral scream that says: “Come on, I’m not afraid of you!” Unfortunately, we’ll never be able to see that guard’s reaction, but I’m sure he was surprised!
 8) Using the Falcon’s Gun (TLJ)
I’ll never forget my joy from seeing this for the first time. After a grueling start to the Battle of Crait, the Falcon makes a triumphant return to help the Resistance. Hold on a second…if Chewie is flying the ship, then who just shot 3 TIE fighters at once? It’s Rey! She’s taking out enemy ships left and right, and enjoying it too!
 7) The Training Course (TROS)
This is another really fun scene. It’s very short but it shows just how skilled Rey has become between the events of the two movies. I get such a rush of excitement when I see her balancing on that rope…with the blast shield on…deflecting shots from a training droid. How cool is that?? All the while a very intense version of her theme is playing in the background. Gotta love it.
 6) Defeating Luke Skywalker (TLJ)
Okay, this one might be cheating a tiny bit but I still think it’s a cool moment for Rey. When Luke won’t tell Rey the truth about what happened between him and Ben, she’s determined to literally beat it out of him. She stumbles a bit, but eventually manages to win the fight and force (ha) Luke to confess. Sure, Luke is much older, not as fast, and was probably holding back in that fight, but Rey sure wasn’t! I mean how many people can say they bested Luke Skywalker?
 5) Stopping the Transport (TROS)
Tumblr media
Now we’re getting into ridiculously cool territory. When Finn rushes over to Rey and frantically tells her that the First Order has Chewie, you think for a second that there’s nothing they can do, right? Wrong. Rey takes one look at the transport and immediately uses the force to try and bring it back down. It’s an unexpected and totally awesome moment that showcases just how strong Rey has become. She’s never done anything like this before, but attempted the impossible to save her friend. Even when Kylo makes it a game of tug-of-war, Rey doesn’t give up.
 4) Destroying Kylo’s Ship (TROS)
Tumblr media
This scene and the transport one go almost hand in hand, but in my opinion I think this one is just a tad cooler. Rey knows that Kylo’s SILENCER is on the way. She knows she has to stop it but doesn’t know how…at first. After calming herself down, Rey presents her lightsaber and turns around, ready to run. But she’s not trying to outrun the TIE fighter. She’s trying to get enough speed in order to perform an insanely impressive backflip to dodge the ship and attack it at the same time. It’s basically the Star Wars version of keying someone’s car, in the coolest way possible.
 3) Lifting the Rocks to Save the Resistance (TLJ)
Tumblr media
Another scene that absolutely stunned me the first time I watched it. I know it might seem like this part is not as cool as the last two entries, but I think the implications of it are actually cooler than the act itself. Think about it…if Rey hadn’t shown up to Crait and hadn’t found the rockslide at the back of the tunnel, the entire Resistance would have been SCREWED. In this one scene, Rey pretty much single-handedly saves the Resistance from total annihilation. Plus, up until this point, Rey had never done anything like this before, and some of those rocks are HUGE!  Don’t get me wrong, Luke’s distraction is equally important, but Rey’s efforts truly saved the day and proved that she does have a place in this story.
 2) Defeating Kylo Ren (TFA)
Tumblr media
For me, this is the scene that basically cements the idea that Rey is a very special character who is destined for great things. In the beginning of the fight, Rey is not doing well at all. Here is a young scavenger from Jakku, who has never used a lightsaber and only just learned she could use the force a few hours ago. Her opponent, Kylo Ren, is clearly more experienced in in the force and lightsaber combat, even though he is injured. Things look grim until Rey reaches a breaking point (or rather, an “awakening” point). She realizes that she does have the strength to defeat Kylo. All she has to do is dig deep within and find it. And she does, oh boy she does! The dynamic of the fight instantly changes as Rey is able to easily overpower Kylo and eventually defeat him. This scene proves that you should never give up, no matter how hopeless things seem.
 1) Defeating Palpatine (TROS)
Tumblr media
Here we are at number one! Here is a scene that gives me an intense rush and goosebumps pretty much every time. After hearing the voices of the Jedi who came before her, Rey squares off against Palpatine, using Leia’s lightsaber to deflect his powerful force lightning. The Emperor taunts Rey, calling her “nothing” and saying she is no match for him. But Rey has all the Jedi backing her up, along with a trick up her sleeve. After using the force to summon Luke’s lightsaber, Rey ignites both blades in order to push the lightning back towards Palpatine. With a powerful rendition of the force theme, Rey is able to use the Emperor’s own abilities against him, effectively killing him for good this time (hopefully!).
Much like entry number 3, even though the scene itself is absolutely fantastic, I think the implications of it are actually what make it so cool. Rey is using both of her Master’s lightsabers, as well as the power of all the Jedi to defeat Emperor Palpatine. This scene also makes me a bit emotional because I think about the fact that Rey thought herself as no one from nowhere, and yet she is the one that makes the ultimate sacrifice to defeat the Emperor once and for all – not to mention saving the entire galaxy! It’s just awesome. There’s no other way to describe it. God, I love Rey.
Well, I suppose that wraps things up! If you clicked on this thank you so much for taking the time to read it. If there’s something you think I missed, please feel free to message me with your favourite Rey moment(s)! Thanks again. Bye for now!

i was finally able to see the bad star war that everyone said was bad. as it turns out, it was bad. here’s a read more post with my thoughts on it so that i don’t spam my twitter with spoiler tweets
for a baseline: i like the original trilogy, but i don’t think any of those movies are perfect. i think the prequels had some good ideas but i were mostly terrible. i love the clone wars (both versions) and rebels. while i admit that tfa was extremely similar to a new hope, i thought it was executed great and had a wonderful new cast that showed a ton of promise. i liked rogue one, although i found its first act really sloppy. and i have some quibbles about tlj, but it had an incredibly strong vision and actual themes, and i’d consider it my favorite in the series
i’m exactly the kind of person who was always going to hate the rise of skywalker, because it’s basically a bad fanfic written by someone who didn’t like tlj and wanted to “fix” the story. like that bizarre story treatment jenny nicholson read for this movie. the bad one. it was like that
it wasn’t all bad i guess. here are the small things i liked:
some of the new environments were cool. there was cool imagery and practical effects work
i appreciated that the moon of endor where the death star wreckage was wasn’t just the one with the ewoks, and thought the vibe there was cool
zorii bliss’s armor was really cool
the image of the fleet of star destroyers all lined up was striking
i liked that the ghost showed up for the final battle
i liked that ahsoka was one of the jedi voices rey heard, even though that kind of implies that ahsoka is, uh... dead?
while extremely fucking trite and dumb, i’ll admit the closing scene on tatooine got me. yeah, rey has no real connection to this place and it’s just a nostalgic throwback, but i’m a sucker for full circle endings like that
uh. that’s about it
this movie kicks off in the middle of an action scene and just kind of keeps jumping to new setpieces nonstop until it’s over. new characters and locations get introduced and then moved past in the blink of an eye. there’s no time to let any of it sink in. it feels like abrams crammed two movies worth of shit into this one to make up for the the fact that some people didn’t like tlj, and as a result none of it resonates. i just felt so empty throughout most of the film. events were happening on screen and none of it mattered
thoughts about individual elements:
LEIA
putting the scenes with the recycled footage of carrie fisher at the beginning of the film completely took me out of it. it was so obvious that she wasn’t really responding to what was being said, and the conversations had just been built around the limited leia lines they could use
the dialogue scenes with leia felt like a space ghost interview
C-3PO
was in this movie a lot for some reason? i guess abrams wanted to make up for how little c-3po there was in the last two movies. they tried to have that emotional moment where his memory is wiped, but then they just turned his memory loss into a big joke?? and then he got most of his memories back anyway
in general, the movie is afraid to let the audience be uncomfortable for long. 3po’s memory loss. the supposed deaths of chewbacca and babu frik, that sort of thing. you’re not allowed to be sad. after tlj so effectively built tension throughout the film and really pushed the heroes to the brink, this is a disappointment
LANDO
is here because he needed to show up, and because it’s a throwback to have him pilot the falcon again. he’s just kind of there with little to do and no arc
FINN, POE, AND ROSE
before the movie came out, i had low expectations. all i really wanted was to get one last fun adventure with the new characters. when i started to hear about the spoilers, my expectations sank even lower. but maybe i would still get this
nah! rose gets like two minutes of screentime because redditors hated her, and finn and poe are barely even characters. they don’t have arcs in this film, they’re just sidekicks on rey’s journey
finn really hurts. prior to tfa’s release, finn was framed as the new star. this was, of course, a bait and switch, as rey was really the new jedi. (finn apparently IS force sensitive according to this one, but hey! we can only have one big jedi hero, so like leia before him, i guess we’ve gotta wait for some EU novel to give finn a lightsaber)
but finn was still a central character in the last two films, and he had so much potential. he was a stormtrooper who defected! that’s something new! that’s interesting! it complicates the black and white morality of the series. but no. that’s been all but abandoned at this point
many have complained about how tfa establishes that basically all the stormtroopers are people who were kidnapped as children and brainwashed by the first order... but then they still have no qualms about gleefully killing them. in the first two movies i was like “yeah, it sucks that they have to kill those guys, but if it’s to prevent genocide, it’s understandable. that’s just war. maybe they’ll touch on it in the last movie.” so in this one, they kept reminding the audience that the stormtroopers were enslaved as children. jannah is even introduced as another stormtrooper who defected like finn. but then... it goes nowhere. finn doesn’t get any first order troops to defect. they don’t care about the other stormtroopers. how many hundreds of thousands of enslaved soldiers did they kill when they blew up those star destroyers
it was nice to see finn and poe take the charge as leaders in the end, but it also feels like they didn’t take the lessons from tlj to heart. the whole point of that story was that one-in-a-million shot heroic suicide missions aren’t worth it, and that they’re more useful to the resistance alive than they are as martyrs. but then in the climax of this film they take like 30 ships to go fight a fleet of a hundred fucking star destroyers
on the subject of that final battle: i thought that the ending of tlj was so powerful. the resistance was decimated, but they still had hope, because they knew there were others out there who could help. people like rey, or the broom boy, who came from nothing but had good hearts. in this one, though, they say that apparently nobody responded to the leia’s call for help in the entire year since the last film. everyone only shows up during the climax after lando’s like “no, but for real guys, we need help”
and i did think that that sequence was cool. and i did like seeing the ghost among the ships. it was fun. the message that fascists like the first order rule by making people feel isolated, and that they’re defeated by realizing that good people are never alone? that was good. i thought that was a strong message. but it’s such a minor footnote on a movie that’s so bad in so many other ways
oh and they made the latino dude a drug dealer. okay. thanks for that
KYLO REN
i hate that they redeemed kylo and i hate the way they did it
yes, him being coerced to turn to the dark side by snoke (who was apparently just a puppet controlled by palpatine all along (UGH)) as a kid was tragic. but that doesn’t excuse his actions. kylo was given infinite second chances throughout the trilogy, and every time he responded with violence. he killed so many people himself, and willingly took part in a fascist regime that killed billions. yes, his story is sad, but he’s not some poor little boy, he’s thirty fucking years old and he vents his trauma by slaughtering innocent people
literally the entire main trio of the original trilogy died because of this asshole. han tried to talk to him in the first movie, and got stabbed and dropped into a pit. luke died astral projecting to face him in tlj. and now leia just kind of arbitrarily died to flip the switch in his brain from bad to good from across the galaxy. it’s literally as simple as that. he doesn’t have a personal journey here. he just stops being evil because his mom made him through the force
like, again. all those enslaved stormtrooper grunts who had been brainwashed since they were kids? gunned down. but giving kylo endless second chances is the most important thing in the world
and then they end the movie by having this creepy abusive stalker genocidal asshole sadboy kiss rey, retroactively framing their dynamic as a romantic one. just, gross as hell. even in this one, for most of the film, all he does is threaten rey and boss her around
i dunno. i thought the first order were interesting as antagonists. yeah, they were just the empire 2.0. but i thought it was appropriate! the idea was that just because palpatine was dead and gone didn’t mean that fascism was gone. there were still hateful people who wanted to rule the galaxy via genocide. like how we still have nazis in the 21st century. except, oops! palpatine was actually alive and pulling the strings the entire time, so now that theme’s out the window. we just have to kill him again FOR REAL this time and now the galaxy will actually be safe
people wondered where the first order would go after snoke died in tlj. but it was so obvious to me? kylo was in charge. kylo was always the most interesting bad guy. just let him call the shots and be the final adversary. but no. that wasn’t good enough. we had to bring back palpatine as the jrpg final boss to have an epic conclusion
REY
oh, poor rey. youtube critics got mad that a girl could be a strong jedi without being related to some other powerful force user from the old movies, so now she’s stuck being a palpatine forever
i will admit, the protagonist of the new movies being related to palpatine but still being a good person in spite of her heritage... that could have been something. but it’s so clearly not what they had in mind from the start, and it spits in the face of the last movie’s themes. it turns out greatness CAN’T come from anywhere. it has to come from one of these select few Special Bloodlines
oh! and this ALSO reframes rey’s parents abandoning her and selling her into slavery as an act of kindness, because they had to hide her from her spooky evil grandpa. so THAT’S fun. (edit: OH! and luke and leia knew about rey the whole time!!! and didn’t go out and look for her!!!!)
it’s just. it’s so bad what they did to rey. i don’t know if i even have much to elaborate on there, everyone’s already said how stupid it is
---
overall, i still wouldn’t say it’s the WORST star wars movie. it’s more watchable than the phantom menace, that’s for damn sure. the actors put in effort. the sets and practical effects are nice. it’s just so... empty
tros possibly feels the closest to how i imagined the new trilogy would be when it was first announced, but in a bad way. a movie built entirely on established ideas of What Star Wars Is with nothing new to bring to the table. it’s like a bad eu novel. just recycled imagery, cameos from characters we already know, palpatine coming back from the dead, that sort of thing. it’s a movie made by committee to appease reddit. it’s nothing
now i gotta use that free trial of disney plus to watch the mandalorian and wash the taste out of my mouth i guess

For Anyone Looking for Not-Super-Angsty-Stuff
I’m compiling mine (or at least the less-angsty stuff) into one list for ya.
Seen ✔️✔️
His lock screen has three texts from Rey on it:
Rey Wife: Babe I know you’re probably busy right now, but you sent that pic to the wrong chat. Rey Wife: Bennnnnnn Rey Wife: Call me when you’re done processing your trauma.
And then about ninety chats from the Skywalker Ranch WhatsApp thread.
--
In which Ben sends a picture to the wrong chat.
The Sweater Curse
She’s never made a sweater before, but she saw the pattern on Ravelry and who cares if she’s only made (lumpy) hats before—she has to try it.  She has to make it. She has to make it for Ben.
“You realize that Hannukah isn’t an important holiday, right?” Ben asks as she makes eye contact with him.  His eyes are big and brown and—at this moment—mildly annoyed.
“Really?  Is it a giant conspiracy theory?  Part of the war on Christmas?”
“More than you realize,” Ben says and for the life of her she can’t tell if he’s joking.  He does this thing sometimes that’s confusing—where he’ll say something that sounds mopey but is actually snarky and it disarms her every damn time.  “In any event, ugly Hanukkah sweaters definitely aren’t a thing the way ugly Christmas sweaters are.”
“Well, they are now,” Rey says firmly.  “I’m making you an ugly Hanukkah sweater.  Deal with it. And stop moving.”
it's you and me (i know it's our destiny)
It’s just a kid’s game, he thinks when jealousy pangs in his heart. But it’s more than just a kid’s game.
It’s Pokémon.
It’s the only good thing in his life.
Shalom Rav!
In which Rey comes to terms realizing that she is attracted to the rabbi.
Apples and Honey
When Ben catches wind that his mother is planning to foist a potential girlfriend on him when he comes home for Rosh Hashanah, he takes matters into his own hands: specifically, he runs to Rey and asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend.
atlanta > all atlanta > community > missed connections
In which Rey meets a cosplayer at DragonCon.
Two to Tango
Rey: I need to ask you something awkward. Ben: What’s up? Rey: Can I give you a blowjob? Please?
Bang for your Buck
“We ready?” he asks her, sounding huffy.
“Nice to meet you Ben, I’m just familiarizing myself with your training,” she replies.
“Ok, well I don’t have all day.”
“No, you have,” she checks her watch, “another hour.” Because of course he’d booked an extra long session. Bless that sweet, sweet overtime pay.
“And you’re sure you know what you’re doing?” he asks her and she glances up at him, sure that her eyes are flashing because that’s fucking rude. She’s a professional. Amilyn wouldn’t have hired her if she didn’t know what she’s doing, and just because he apparently thinks he’s the center of the universe doesn’t change that fact.
“Don’t worry, you’ll get your bang for your buck,” she tells him icily.
A Picture's Worth
reyjay: hiya your art is amazing
reyjay: it’s a big ask but could you draw me for my art final tomorrow? i’m shit at drawing people and i can’t fail this. can you help?
He stares.
And stares.
And stares.
kyloren: is this some kind of a joke?
reyjay: no?? why??
kyloren: you’re asking me to help you cheat your exam, but you’re not even offering me money?
Forged
There are several reasons that Ben would never have dreamed he’d ever receive this text. The first is that he’d be invited to a Halloween party. The second is that he’d never in his life expected to be in a serious relationship, much less the sort of serious relationship where his partner would suggest matching Halloween costumes. And the last is that he is dating someone who’s show only and they’ve only almost murdered one another twice. Because he’s an A Song of Ice and Fire fan. He hates Game of Thrones.

--
In which Rey & Kylo meet at their fancon's speed dating.
do or do not (do the do)
In which Ben, in an effort to improve his stamina (look he's making progress, ok?) after reading some articles that he'll never be able to unread, receives some coaching (that he very much did not ask for).
(Very much did not ask for.)
A for...
Rey’s seeing double by the time there’s food on her plate. Oh. There’s food on her plate. That’s good. That’s unexpected at this point. “Eat,” Ben tells her.
So she does. It tastes good. Very good. She likes this food a lot.
“I’ll make sure she knows,” Ben says.
Oh she’s at that point of drunk where she’s just saying things out loud instead of keeping them in her internal monologue.
“You are,” Ben says, looking very amused.
She hopes she doesn’t say anything embarrassing.
“I promise, you haven’t yet, but oh boy, I’m looking forward to this.”
She shoves food into her mouth to keep herself from thinking out loud about his dick in her ass at his mother’s Passover seder.
The Love Committee
In which Rey, tired of her bad luck with dating apps and failed relationships, enlists her friends' help in determining who she should date next.
They take it a little too seriously.
💦💦💦💦
In which Ben accidentally implies that he gets his cardio from having sex on national television.
You, Me, and He
When they say that Kylo's brain is in his groin, they're not far from the truth.
Alternatively,
In which Kylo Ren is his own penis.
and beyond
“Please?”
For a moment, he thinks it will be like the first time, him begging, her crying and saying no and him not knowing how to protect his crushed heart.
But she doesn’t cry, she doesn’t say, “Please don’t go this way,” she doesn’t look horrified or disgusted. She just grabs him by the front of his shirt and tugs his lips down to hers before reaching down to cup his cock.
we decided not to kill the wolves (we wanted to be wolves)
A pack of wolves lives in the woods to the north of Raddus and as winter looms, they have their eyes set on Leia Organa’s stronghold. Rey may be new to Raddus, but she’s not about to do nothing while it may be in danger. And besides, Poe must be exaggerating about wolves the size of bears. She’s not afraid of monsters.
myosotis
Ben picked the flowers for their wedding.
The Kitchen
Rey and Ben, hunting for their first house.
Investiture
In which Ben goes to daven for his father’s yahrtzeit and manages to prove to himself once again that he is both a terrible person and a terrible Jew.
Oh and he sort of falls in love.
The Sweetest Thing
A post-coital trip to Waffle House.
with you i shall play
And when it's dry and ready, then Ben's dick Rey shall play.
Everything to Prove
“The show,” he says. “It’s probably best if they don’t—if we don’t—”
And Rey follows his line of thought at once. For all the program is one that doesn’t seem melodramatic—the height of drama in previous seasons came from someone’s cake falling over and that was about it—she does not doubt that the producers and cameramen would leap at the opportunity to make there be something out of nothing in their relationship—especially if there was something out of something.
“Yeah,” she agrees. “Yeah, probably. We can pick baking stations that are…” but she doesn’t want to complete the thought. She likes baking next to Ben.
“Or we can just be careful?” he suggests, sounding quite as pained by the prospect as Rey feels.
“Yeah, careful. I can do careful,” Rey says at once and her lips are on his again and he’s laughing now, and she’s laughing, and she didn’t think laughter would be part of all this. She didn’t think it could be. But here she is, laughing and kissing and holding a man who, at some point, she’s going to want to beat.
She does her best not to think of that now.
It’s a friendly competition, after all.
It’s not life and death.
It’s baking.
Brightblades
In which Rey learns about a startling kink of her new boyfriend, and in which, much later, they roleplay it.
The Knotting Shop
Ben realizes upon entering the shop that he had gotten the complete wrong impression from the name of it.
What the fuck sort of shop calls itself The Knotting Shop if it’s not about, well, knotting?
The answer, apparently, is a knitter with a sense of humor. An Omega, by the scent that seems to have landed in every colorful ball of yarn in the shop and which hits him right in the groin.
Let Go (Never Let Me Go)
In which Rey swipes right on Ben, 35. Probably too much of an asshole for you, but my therapist is trying to convince me that assholes deserve love too, so here’s me on Tinder, and it does not proceed as she expects.
crossfade (cursed and blessed)
The Talmud states that on Purim one is to drink to the point of not knowing the difference between “cursed is Haman” and “blessed is Mordechai.” In other words, you’re supposed to get so blitzed you can’t tell your friends from your enemies. Rey and Ben might be taking this a little too literally at Leia’s annual Purim Party.
Kind Stranger
Ben stares at the text for a minute before opening up his computer and typing “+7793 area code” into his web search. Jakku. Of course he wouldn’t have recognized it. He confessed himself surprised to know that Jakku even had an area code. Did people still live in Jakku?
#kylothekiller
It’s not the first time that Rey has seen Kylo pop up in her Fido stream, but it is the first time she’s clicked on him fast enough to be scheduled for a meet and greet with dog and owner on Saturday.
All Bets Are Off
“Fake girlfriend. What does that even mean?” Ben asks her.
Rey rests a hand on his arm, feeling the muscles underneath his sleeve. “Babe,” she says, leaning close to him. “It means we pretend we’re madly in love. Think you can pull that off for your office pool?” Ben’s eyes flicker softly between each of hers and he swallows, his Adam’s apple bobbing in his throat.

May Trope Mayhem Fill Day 13: First Kiss
Fandom: Star Wars Eps 7 - 9
Ship: Finn/Poe Dameron
Rating: Gen
Tags: Post canon, fluff with a splash of angstful pining, love confessions, first kiss
Words: 1,987
First time in like a week one of these fills was short enough that I felt it was appropriate to post the whole thing to Tumblr. Also, first time since the event started that I didn’t write either Chinese or Japanese fandom. :D Here, have some Stormpilot.
Xposted to AO3
@duckprintspress
Rolling onto his side, Finn swung a hand behind himself to catch his balance before he could tumble off the edge of the narrow X Wing nose (was it even called a nose? Finn wasn’t sure, and wasn’t in the mood for the good-natured ribbing he’d sustain if he asked). Poe lay beside him, so close that their sides had been pressed together before Finn moved; he made holding his position look effortless, as effortless as he made flying look, as effortless as he made rebelling look, as effortless as he made smiling look. Lips spread in a relaxed grin, Poe stared up at the night sky over D’Qar, reflected stars sparkling in the depths of his dark eyes. A breeze tousled brown locks over his face and shifted the folds of his loose shirt.
He’s gorgeous.
Am I allowed to think that? I wish I knew. I wish I could ask. And...maybe I can...I wish I knew why I feel like I can’t…
...don’t be an idiot, FN-21-- Finn. I feel I can’t because I’m scared of what’ll happen if I say something I shouldn’t.
I can’t risk losing what we have now.
So - let’s keep things safe, instead.
“What happens now?” Finn asked. Even speaking barely above a whisper, Finn’s voice sounded loud in his ears in the forest night. Insects chirped, branches creaked, leaves rustled, something called low and eerie from the darkness, and Poe’s breathing ebbed and flowed in sof rushes of air. Speaking seemed to shatter something, and Finn wished he hadn’t, but Poe didn’t react as though he’d done anything wrong; he wiggled onto his side, slid an arm under himself, set his elbow on the hard metal of the X Wing and propped his head up on the hand, and directed toward Finn the same easy look that, moments before, had stared up at the sky. One of those gusting exhales brushed over Finn’s face, warm and humid, and stole Finn’s breath away.
“What doesn’t happen now?” Poe replied avidly. “The sky’s the limit, literally. Rey’s got that whole Jedi-Sith fusion plan going on, and the politicians are doing, I dunno, the same crap they always do, and I’m still training folks at the academy...there’s sure enough to keep busy with! I guess the question is - what do you want to happen now? What do you want to do, Finn?”
“I want to stay by your side.” The answer, the truth, slipped from Finn before he could stop it. A dash of panic set his heart to racing - what if Poe misunderstood what he meant? What if Poe understood what he meant? - and he continued in a rush, “You know. Rehabilitating the former Storm Troopers. Helping them integrate. Retraining the ones who want it. All that kind of…” Searching for the right words, he raised an arm and waved vaguely at the ait; tiny bugs flitted away as though he movement threatened them; it didn’t - the only threat was to his own precarious perch, and he caught himself with a foot thrown behind himself and a boot stomped hard against the angled side of the ship. “...stuff like that.”
“Awesome stuff like that, yeah.” Poe’s eagerness was spectacular, his implicit support calming. “But honestly? Not exactly what I meant.”
“No?”
Poe shook his head; even that didn’t damage his positioning. Truly, the man was a wonder in everything he did.
But he didn’t answer.
“Something wrong?” Finn asked leadingly, nervously.
“No...and yes,” Poe sighed, slumping onto his back and pressing his palms into his eyes. “Fuck, I’m bad at this.”
“Bad at what?”
“Usually, it’s so easy.”
“What’s easy?”
“I just...go to the person, say how I feel and what I’d like to do, they go, ‘cool, yeah, let’s do that!’ or ‘I’d rather not’ or, at worst, ‘ew, no, get away,’ and that’s that - it’s all good, we do what we do, we don’t do what we don’t do, and life goes on.”
“I literally couldn’t have less idea what you’re talking about.” Finn scowled, disgruntled. He knew that Poe was forward in stating his desires and approaching people he was interested in. That was part of why Finn felt so sure he wasn’t allowed to want - all that confidence had never been directed toward Finn, at least not ‘like that.’ If Poe wanted what Finn wanted, why hadn’t he just said something?
Takes one to know one, Finn - I feel how I feel, and I want what I want, but I haven’t said anything either…
“But you…” Poe directed his speech toward the fathomless sky, not sparing Finn’s interjections a reaction. “...Fuck, I don’t know. What am I even saying?”
“That’s what I’m wondering,” said Finn. “ ‘Cause it almost sounds like you’re suggesting that you’ve got feelings and...doings...that you want to say, except for whatever reason, you’re putting me in a different category than...like...everyone else?”
Please don’t...please tell me I’m just another person…
“Uh, duh?”
...or say that. Oh, that stings.
“Oh,” muttered Finn. Shifting his leg, he let gravity take him and did a controlled tumble down to the runway, landing in a squat.
“Finn?” Poe called after him. Glaring at nothing, Finn rose and stalked toward the barracks.
“Wait up!”
He knew he was being unreasonable.
“Come on, don’t be like that!”
He knew he was being unfair.
“Will you just stop?”
He knew that, if he wanted Poe to talk to him, his current behavior was guaranteed to produce the exact opposite result.
“You don’t understand!”
He knew, knew, that Poe didn’t see him as merely an ex-Stormtrooper, merely a former soldier, merely a murderer who had to learn to assume the facsimile of personhood.
“Aaargh, you’re being impossible!”
He doesn’t see me that way.
“This is exactly why I didn’t know what to say!”
I see me that way.
“I love you!” Poe’s voice, breathless and sincere, shouted out loudly enough in the night that the birds and animals went silent.
Finn froze.
Pounding footsteps raced up behind him and Poe sprinted to his side, overran by several steps, stopped huffing and puffing with his hands on his knees and his breath making foggy clouds in the chill night air before him.
“I know...I know what you’re thinking,” Poe said. “I get what you’re afraid of. And you’re not wrong.” I’m not? “I don’t see you like those people. Because you’re not those people. They could be anyone, but you’re Finn.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” asked Finn acidly. I’m sure it is. He said he loved me. He said...he really said…
“If I cared less, I could talk about it more.”
“...that sounds like something I’ve heard before…”
“Whatever, it’s from some book the General recommended, it doesn’t matter,” said Poe, waving away Finn’s words. “What matters is you. You matter too much for me to risk hurting you. You’re too important for me to take for granted. You’re too special for me to sanguinely accept that if I say the wrong thing, you’ll walk away. And then I said the wrong thing anyway, and you did walk away, and I don’t know how to fix it.”
He looks so earnest, so genuine, so beautiful, that Finn’s heart ached.
“Can I fix it?” Poe implored.
His concerns sound so similar to my own...he comes from a place of experience, and I from a place of inexperience, but the fears are the same.
“Tell me how, and I’ll do it.”
And now I know - there’s nothing for me to be afraid, because he’s told me how he feels, and I know it’s the truth.
“Because I’ve lost everyone - almost everyone - and I can’t lose you too, Finn.”
I’ve told him nothing.
“You won’t,” Finn said; a moment of shame and worry had him looking around, looking down, his toe scuffing the dirt of the path...and then he shook his head, crossed the couple steps separating them, threw his arms around Poe’s shoulders, and pulled him into a rough hug. “You never will.” A helpless noise burst from Poe and then he relaxed into the embrace, putting one arm around Finn’s waist, another around his shoulders, and holding him like he never meant to let go.
“Finn…”
“I love you, Poe,” Finn murmured, shifting his head against the side of Poe’s face, delighting in the tingle of scruff tickling against his cheek, adoring being able to whisper the truth into Poe’s ear. “Seriously.” Poe breathed a word - it might have been yes! but Finn wasn’t sure - and hugged him more tightly. “I really, really, love you.”
“Really, really?” asked Poe, voice rolling with laughter.
“Really, really.”
“Just to be abso-fricken-lutely clear, you don’t mean, like...bro-love?”
“I mean, like, I can’t remember the last time I looked at your face and didn’t imagine kissing you senseless.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“That’s...that’s really, really.”
“Yup.”
“Awesome.” And Poe dropped an arm, leaned back, and hesitated a moment as he gazed at Finn’s face...and he lifted a hand to Finn’s face, ran calloused fingers over his cheek, and then leaned forward and brought their lips together softly, slowly, gently.
Finn had seen a lot of people kiss since he joined the Rebellion.
Finn had been kissed, and kissed others, a whole mess of time - in grief, in celebration, in relief, in greeting. So many cultures kissed casually, he’d learned to do the same.
Finn thought he knew what a kiss was.
Easing into lip-on-lip contact with Poe, Finn realized with crystal-clear, fuzzy-warm clarity, he had no idea what a kiss was.
And he was really, really looking forward to finding out.
He and Poe would have to experiment a great deal until Finn understood, profoundly, how all those other kisses were different from exchanging tender intimacies with the man he’s loved and wanted since roughly 10 Standard Minutes after they met.
Too soon, the kiss ended. There was a soft mwap as they drew apart. Finn’s lips tingled pleasantly, warmth suffusing his chest; flicking out his tongue, he moistened the skin and delighted at the flavor of Poe in his mouth.
He opened his eyes.
Poe was staring avidly at his mouth.
“That good, Finn?” he asked, voice low and throaty.
“You tell me,” Finn replied.
“How about we both work on the sharing-and-caring?”
“It was fantastic, Poe.”
“Right?! It really was!”
“Really, really!”
“Super really, really!”
“Ultra really, really.”
“Mega really, really.”
“Ice-cream-with-a-cherry-on-top really, really.”
“Where did you even learn that?” laughed Poe. “Ginormously re--”
“Question.”
“Anything, Finn.”
“Why are we talking about it when we could be doing it again?”
“...valid. Really valid.”
“Really, really valid?”
Snorting, Poe smacked a quick kiss on his lips again - Finn chased him futilely as he leaned away - and broke their embrace to take Finn’s hand.
“My bunk or yours?”
“My bunk is literally a bunk,” replied Finn.
“And mine isn’t?”
“Yeah, but yours is in a room, with a door, and no bunkmates.”
“...they haven’t given you your own room?!”
“How do you not know that?”
“You literally saved the galaxy.”
“We all literally saved the galaxy.”
“I...you...fucking damn, okay, tomorrow, we’re going to fix that.”
“And right now?”
“Right now...my bunk. Definitely my bunk. Right, Finn?”
“Really, really right, Poe.”
“Stop that,” groaned Poe, laughing again.
“Never,” promised Finn with a grin, and delighted in the matching grin he got back.
“That’s right. Never. Never stop.”
“I really, really won’t.”
“Fuck, do I love you…”
And, beaming, beyond happy, Finn allowed himself to be drawn to Poe’s room.
Had he truly been so worried about how things would go if he spoke his heart?
Now, he was really, really not worried.
And he knew - he was in for a really, really, excellent night…
...and he’d never have to really, really, worry about Poe’s heart again.
Really, really.

“You can’t be serious, you’ve never danced before?”
Finn shook his head for the millionth time. “Nope,” he replied, popping the ‘p’ and tilting his head up towards Poe. The sun had gone down long ago, the two now snuggled in soft firelight and the glow of the TV, content in being together. They were lounging on the couch watching the Harry Potter marathon on SyFy, Finn still recovering from his vision the previous day. Poe’s feet are propped up on a footstool while Finn leaned back on his chest, BB-8 sleeping in his lap. On screen Harry and Hermione were dancing to some song about trains, Finn had always thought it was cute, and so he had said something about it. This, of course, had led Poe to ask Finn about his dancing preferences and from there the truth came out. Finn had never danced before.
The orange glow of the fireplace cast dancing shadows across Poe’s features as he looked down at Finn, puzzlement in his eyes. Finn grinned in disbelief, chuckling a little. “What!? So what if I’ve never danced before? It’s not like I’ve been in all these relationships before like you have, I didn’t even have a date to my senior prom!”
“So you’re telling me no one in your entire school took a shot at this wonderful piece of ass right here,” he says, reaching down to grab Finn’s butt. “No one claimed this cute little tush? No one?”
Finn grinned at his boyfriend’s antics, wiggling around and waking BB-8 by accident. “No one,” he told him.
“No one,” Poe repeated, like Finn had just told him some unbelievable thing, like he said that Gwendolyn Gegonia wasn’t the founder of Gegonia Institute, or sage wasn’t useful in cleansing.
“Nope!” It was kinda cute, the way Poe lifted his eyebrows and his eyes went all wide, so Finn didn’t really mind the questions. It was lighthearted and fun.
“Not a single one of those crazy teenage girls with their chunky highlights?”
Finn laughed loudly at that one, startling Coraline who was lounging across the room on the cat tower. “Not a single one of them. I ended up going with Rey-”
“Aha!” Poe exclaimed, “so you did go to prom,” he said, as if that was supposed to make everything click in the puzzle of questions he was asking.
“And?”
“And you didn’t dance?”
“No, of course I danced-”
“Exactly! See I knew it couldn’t be true.” Poe smiled triumphantly, and Finn shook his head some more.
“No, you see, I’ve done like, this-” he did a horrendous rendition of the electric slide from his spot on the couch, “and this-” he did a half hearted cabbage patch-
“You did the cabbage patch?” Poe wheezed, “baby thats so- oh god-”
“Shut up! And I know this, and this-” he moved his arms in the steps of the macarena, then did a little approximation of the wobble, “and this thing-” he ended with the Cupid Shuffle. “Quit laughing!” Poe was dying with laughter, infectious and bubbly, and Finn found himself laughing too despite his words.
Poe grabbed the remote, muting the TV and pulling Finn off the couch. “That’s it, you’re getting dancing lessons. Right. Now.”
Finn ducked his head shyly, “I’m not much of a dance- woah!”
Poe grabbed him by the hips and pulled him close. “Nonsense! It’s like that guy from Ratatouille said, ‘anyone can dance!’”
“I’m pretty sure it’s ‘anyone can cook.’”
Poe shushed him, taking his hands and humming what sounded like salsa music. “Just follow my lead, I’ve got you. Right leg first.” He squeezed Finn’s hands, giving him a soft smile. He tapped the tempo onto Finn’s palm. “Alright, and back and shift and front and shift and-”
Finn and his two left feet went the wrong way, bumping right into Poe and nearly knocking him over. “Sorry!” he reached out to grab Poe before he could fall, pulling him back up. He felt heat blooming on his cheeks, “Poe I’m not-”
“No no sweetheart, I started too hard, that’s on me,” he locked eyes with Finn, telling him there was no need to apologize. “Let’s try something a little easier, yeah?”
“You sure?” Finn felt a little uneasy, afraid to mess up again.
“Of course.” Poe kissed him sweetly, his lips quelling Finn’s fears.
Poe wiggled his fingers at a record player in the corner and it crackled to life, rich smooth sound pouring from the bell and greeting Finn’s ears like a warm embrace. He recognized the song, Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra. Poe grinned like an idiot, taking Finn’s hands once again.
“Fly me to the moon, let me play among the stars,” he sang softly, stepping side to side in time with the music. “Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars.”
Finn was smiling now, soft and gentle as Poe led him across the floor. They twirled and rocked in time with the beat, in time with each other. When Poe looked at him with those soft brown eyes, Finn began to think that maybe dancing wasn’t so bad after all.
“In other words, hold my hand. In other words, baby kiss me,” Poe grinned goofily, angling for a kiss, and of course Finn gave it to him. “Fill my heart with song and let me sing forever more. You are all I long for, all I worship and adore.”
Finn lifted his arm, twirling Poe around a couple of times. His smile was brighter than Finn had ever seen, it warmed his heart and sent butterflies into his stomach. It was like every moment with Poe was his first, nervous and excited and filled to the brim with anticipation.
“In other words, please be true,” Poe pulled him close, rocking them side to side, “in other words, I love you.” His stubble scratched at Finn’s skin as he kissed him repeatedly.
The music grew louder through the instrumental break and Finn found himself letting go, throwing his head back with carefree laughter. Everything was just so… warm. So perfectly comfortable and safe, here in their living room in the low light. Poe was serenading him, his voice like honey, guiding him across the floor as they danced.  It was easy, and before Finn knew it the song was over.
Poe pulled him impossibly closer, bringing his lips in close enough to brush Finn’s ear. “I’m so fucking glad you’re here now,” he murmured as the next song began.
Finn felt his heart swell as he buried his face in Poe’s shoulder. He inhaled the scent of cinnamon, clove, and spiced cider. A mix that was so overwhelmingly Poe that Finn thought he might combust. “Me too,” he whispered, clinging to Poe with everything he had.
The music surrounded them, lulling them into a loving silence in which they just swayed and held each other, happy to finally be together.
Never thought that you would be, standing here so close to me, there’s so much I feel that I should say, but words can wait until another day
Kiss me once, then kiss me twice, then kiss me once again, it’s been a long long time, Haven’t felt like this my dear since can’t remember when, it’s been a long, long time…
End.

Bound to you (Rey x Reader)
Request: I just saw your last request and I’m so excited! I was wondering if you could do a rey x reader where they have a force connection but the reader is on the dark side due to her brother. Maybe The reader and Rey communicate every night and Rey knows how much the reader misses Leia so when Rey comes to fight Kylo the reader escapes with her and it’s fluff after that? By anon.
Words: 1,908
A/N: I really like writing Kylo as a brother.
*******
The deep voice of the Supreme Leader rumbled through the room as he spoke making some of the generals shiver. He was in a deep discussion with General Hux about some failed task and how many ships it had costed the First Order. Sitting in the big table at the right side of the Leader you chuckled for yourself, it amused you how often this two fought and most of the times after screaming at each other your brother ended the conversation by force choking Hux.
“Y/N” you heard a distance voice calling your name, an already familiar voice. You stood up and walked silently to the door.
“Y/N, where are you going?” asked Kylo looking over his shoulder. “We’re discussing important matters” you leaned on the door frame as you crossed your arms.
“I’m bored” you told him. “You know this is not my thing. I’m a woman of action. You want to eliminate somebody? Just name it, I don’t have time for politics, brother” you said serious. He looked at you for a while and then he nodded.
“Y/N” kept calling the voice
“You’re right” he told you. “You are the only person that has never disappointed me, not like this unprofitable Generals.” he growled at them. “Go ahead” you turned around and ran to your room in the big dark ship, the voice echoing in the back of your head.
“I’m here” you said after closing the room’s door. There she was sitting in the ground with her eyes closed, Rey, the girl your brother wanted to kill so desperately. She opened her eyes and glanced at you with a light smile.
“Where’s is him?” she asked you.
“In a meeting” you told her as you sat in the floor close to her as if she was a close friend of yours though she was technically your enemy. “Did you find something”
“Nothing” she told you. “The books are not clear”
Rey and you were searching for answers, you wanted to know how or why this kept happening, what was this... bound. It had started a long time ago without explanation, so sudden, so strange. Mysteriously you felt a presence behind you, it took you by surprise alone in the training room but it was there someone behind you, holding your lightsaber you turned around meeting Rey’s gaze who was holding her own saber up.
It shocked you when she stabbed you, the pain spreading for your body and yet not a single wound, it was a strange state the two of you were, it seemed like she was there but she wasn’t at the same time. And then she disappeared as concerned as you.
However it kept happening, every single night she appeared didn't matter what, at first you two tried to fight without much success, then you limited the interaction to screaming and threatening each others. This connection, or whatever it was, just wouldn’t stop, you kept it secret from your brother and started searching for answers with the scavenger.
“So not even the Jedis can help?” you groaned.
“There’s still one last thing” she told you with insecurity in her voice. “Y/N, what if we ask Leia?”
“No” you stopped serious. With the time you had opened up with Rey, she knew about your past, about who you were and the atrocities you and your brother, Kylo Ren, had done. But she also knew when you were upset or if you were lying. No matter how hard you tried you just couldn't resist her, you had felt other things that darkness inside you, feelings you thought were gone. And she knew how much you missed your mother, Leia, how you were longing to see her, hold her in your arms and even share a tear with her in honor to your father, but it wouldn’t happen.
“Y/N, please. She knows the force better than anyone”
“I said no, Rey” you snapped making her flinch and got quiet for a moment.
“She misses you too” she said breaking the silence “Chew as well, he told me you were close friends when you were a kid” she told you, making you giggle softly as you remembered your golden childhood.
“We were. I used to have a fake blaster and he would pretend I shoot him” you smiled “Then mom came in the room and would lesson him along with me” you stopped “And Ben and dad for gave me that toy”. you sighed, the memories were the only thing you had left and you kept them like your little treasure, curiously the only person you shared them with was her.
The sound of heavy footsteps brought you back to reality.
“Someone’s coming” you told her as you got up. “Keep searching, see you tomorrow” she laughed.
“See you, Y/N” then she was gone just before your brother entered to the room, his helmet on, sure he was here to send you in a new mission. You pretended you were cleaning your saber.
“How was it?” you asked him without looking up at him. Kylo walked slowly into your room scanning every detail.
“Was someone here?” he asked with his modulated voice “I thought I heard a voice”
“It must be that stupid helmet, brother” you told him annoyed. “Who do you want me to kill?”
Your brother walked towards you, once he was closer you felt the doubt on him, the insecurity, he was even a little afraid.
“No this time” he said “We captured a rebel reconnaissance ship”
“And what do I do?” you finally looked at his masked face.
“The pilot is in the interrogation room, he knows where’s the Resistance base” Kylo explained to you.
“Couldn’t get the information?” you smirked, sometimes you liked to bother him it was funny seeing him annoyed, specially when it came to using the force, he was impulsive, you were centrated and for that you had more power than him.
He immediately got mad, leaning over you, his helmet inches from you. Annoyed you raised an eyebrow.
“Just bring it to me, sister" he growled. "We both know no one can resist being interrogated by you"
"Fine" you told him before leaving the room.
When you arrived to the interrogation room you gasped as you saw the empty chair and the stormtroopers running, soon the alarm rumbled to the whole ship. Using the force you stopped a soldier.
"What's going on?" You asked him frowning
"Rebels, Mistress. They're here and they took the pilot" he answered you in panic.
"Where exactly are they?" You growled.
"We don't know" you squeezed his neck a bit as you screamed at him
"Then find them!" Suddenly you felt her, you felt Rey was in the ship somewhere but really close to you. Shaking your head you let go of the trooper and rushed down the halls looking for the scavenger.
Following her presence in the force finally found her fighting against your brother. The two of them hit their sabers nonstop, they dodged and even jumped moving in a accelerated rhythm as their lightsabers crashed against each other.
Rey caught your gaze and almost stopped fighting. She was there, it was not just a vision anymore.
She pushed your brother back sending him flying across the room. You took the chance and got closer to her. She had the same doubt in her eyes you had, she was wandering the same as you, if you were really there and if so, which side would you take.
Slowly you reached for her hands that were still holding the lightsaber, guiding her to put it down and she turned it off.
"Y/N!" you heard your brother screamed behind you "Kill her!" He ordered you. Rey gaze went from him to you, her eyes begging you to help her.
Raising your hand and with a small move you made Kylo fell unconscious to the ground.
"Run" you finally said to Rey "He will wake up soon"
Behind her, you saw the pilot you were supposed to interrogate and some others rebels
"Rey, we gotta go!" yelled one of them. You glanced at Rey for a moment, it was so surreal to have her in front of you and now she was going maybe forever. She seemed to know what you were thinking, maybe she knew, you had a bound after all.
"Come with me" she told you holding your hand, her eyes scanning your face. "Please"
You thought of it, in the possibilities you may have, you thought about your mother and the chance to be with her again. You thought of a life with Rey by your side. And then you looked over your shoulder, your brother was still asleep on the floor, you would betray him if you leave, but the Resistance sounded more like a home than the cold walls of the First Order ship.
"Alright but move, now" you told Rey, smiling she ran with you, never letting go of your hand. You guided her to the main hangar where you saw a very special ship, the Millennium Falcon, your father's ship. You rushed to it and made your escape.
"Nostalgic?" Rey asked you once you were calm, you were looking the ship and remembering so many things of your past, you had literally grew up in that ship.
"A little" you smiled at her, she sat down next to you.
"Are you going to be okay?" She said
"Yeah, it's just a lot to process" she knew you were having conflicting thoughts in your head, about the past, about betraying your brother and also the future. What now?
Rey took your hand comforting you, feeling her warm hand around yours made you smile, after all this time seeing her everyday her touch felt known even though it was new for you.
"Your mother will be so happy" she told you, her sweet voice filled with kindness. "Just like I am" you gave her a smile feeling how her words were making your face go a little pink.
"I mean it" she said giving your hand a squeeze "I used to feel so lonely, but then there was you, always you. No matter how much we tried to break the bound, you were there for me. I never had someone like you" she told you, you felt your heart beating faster with every word that came out of her mouth.
"But you have me now" you said "And I would never leave you, Rey" she opened her eyes surprised. You stayed there glancing at each other for a while. You shook your head as you felt your face blushing deeper.
"Well, it's not like you can get rid of me, we have this connection after all" you joked
"I'm glad we have It" she laughed.
The rest of the way to the Resistance's base Rey asked you to tell her stories, she loved to hear your adventures in the Falcon and you loved how her eyes lighted up with joy every time. Sitting close to her you felt safe, her head resting in your shoulder and her fingers intertwined with yours, what a wonderful feeling it was, you could get used to it. Then finally you arrived, Rey walked you out the ship encouraging you and you both got out the ship still holding hands, walking to a new beginnig.

A SHEEP AS BLACK AS MIDNIGHT IN SPACE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is a dark time for the Galaxy. General Enric Pryde and Supreme Leader Snoke have unleashed a reign of terror, dealing the New Republic a terrible blow with the Hosnian Cataclysm. But all is not lost. General Organa has discovered a New Hope from the desert of Jakku, who will become the Last Jedi. After Rey, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Poe Dameron and Finn, the former FN2187 undertook a daring raid that led to the destruction of Starkiller Base, Rey has gone to Ahch-To, to study under the reclusive Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. And he will tell her a secret. There is another.
I: THERE IS ANOTHER.
Luke Skywalker sighed, heavily.
“Master Luke, what is it? What’s wrong?”
“I destroyed my own family, Rey. And the Galaxy is paying the price. Did you ever wonder why Han and Leia don’t live together? Why I’m in exile, here? There is another. Or at least, there was. My nephew. My paduan. The best and worst student at the Jedi Temple. Ben Solo.”
“Ben Solo! Didn’t he die at the Jedi Temple?”
“In a way, he did. He doesn’t use that name, anymore.”
“Then he’s alive? Do you know what happened to him?”
“A great many things. First? There were his mother's expectations. She had his whole life planned out. His Royal Highness, Prince Benjamin Skywalker Organa-Solo. He was going to be the perfect Jedi, the perfect young leader, the perfect fair-haired son of the New Republic. He wasn’t supposed to be a giant behemoth of a man, who was too much like his father and his grandfather to fit in any mold. Han and I pretty much figured that Big Ben was going his own way by the time he was six. His hair was down to his waist, and he’d scream and break the scissors with the Force if you came near him to cut his hair. He wouldn’t wear clothes. Just a pair of underwear, if you took him out. He wanted to be a Wookiee. He wouldn’t speak Basic. Just Shriiyywook. We worked it out. But Ben never really changed.”
Luke sighed.
“As he grew to manhood, I started seeing my nephew as a monster. His obsession with his own duality, and that of his grandfather. His heretical leanings toward the Grey Path. And his vows? Forget vows. Not my nephew, the king of taboo. Jedi are supposed to take vows of chastity, and honesty. To have control over their emotions. Ben sold cigarillos, wine, and rubbers from his father’s smuggling operation out of my father’s TIE Fighter, his personal vehicle. He lost his virginity when he was 14 to his best friend, Talia who was 13. As usual? Han was the best worst father, ever. He took her to get an implant, and kept Ben supplied with rubbers. Which he needed, because any of my female students who were curious about their resident Rebel Angel? Let’s just say, Ben never failed to satisfy their curiosity. He didn’t listen to me when I tried to stop him. He really thought he meant something to these girls. After all, they meant something to him. It took Talia telling him she was going to rent him by the hour out of her Wookiee foster father’s garage in Mos Eisley, because he laid more pipe to more satisfied customers than any spaceport gigolo. I mean, how do you teach a six and a half foot tall Force of nature who has been using the Force since he was a toddler in a crib to open the cupboard and get the cookies?”
“He likes cookies?”
“Ben? He eats like a Wookiee. Literally. Chewie taught him to cook.”
“But he likes cookies?”
“Eats them by the box."
Master Luke laughed.
“Now I see that all of it was so very minor. I used to get so angry with him about the TIE Fighter, and the smuggling, and Talia, and the other girls. He didn’t trust me to tell me how the Dark Side, how Snoke was stalking him. It had been a terrible day, for Ben. I disciplined his little group of girls, and all four of them blamed everything on him. Not Talia, though. She spoke up for Ben. But the other three girls? They didn’t take his side. They gave him up. He sat in his hut and cried, all day. He really cared. He did. The poor kid cried himself to sleep. I went to check on him, that night and I felt the Dark Side all around him. While he was sleeping. I thought he had given himself over to it. I attacked. I almost cut off his head, but Ben defended himself. He blocked my lightsaber with his and punched me in the face as hard as he could. If I wasn’t a Jedi Master who can anticipate my opponent's movements. It would have broken my neck. But he didn't mean to kill me. Ben was just scared. As it was, I was unconscious until the morning. By then? It was all over."
Rey couldn’t believe the enormity of the act that he had just admitted to.
Trying to murder his own paduan, his own nephew!
“What happened to your nephew after he brought the building down on you? Did he join the Dark Side.”
“No. He packed up his gear and walked ten miles to the spaceport, and made it there by morning. He left Yavin 4 on a Mandalorian freighter with a business associate of his father’s, Din Saxon, under an assumed name that he had identity papers for. Now he’s partners with Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son, Din Saxon, the Mandalorian, and Han Solo. They revived the old Galactic Black Market, and now there’s a war on, not only are they making a fortune? They’re the only game in town for a lot of little things that people find it hard to live without. They do sell arms and coaxium to both sides, but they only sell the low-grade junk to the First Order and at three times the price they sell to the Resistance. I hear that Ben’s doing well. He hasn’t realized his ambition to meet the girl the Force has bound him to, but he still has his friend, Talia. I trained her as a Jedi Healer, and she's since gone to the Republic Medical School. She's Ben's personal doctor. As reckless as he is? He needs to travel with a farkling doctor. Pardon my language. The point is, my nephew renounced the Jedi and the Sith, the Dark and the Light, that day. He wants no part of it. He follows the Grey Path. As it was laid out by Master Qui-Gon Jinn. He also wants no part of this war. His name is Ben Solo, but the name he does business under, the name you’ll have heard of is his alias. Kylo Skywalker. The Arkanian.”
“Ben Solo is Kylo Skywalker, the Arkanian?”
“Yes. And he and Han are looking to add a good scavenger to their operation, because Kylo just bought the salvage rights to the site of the Battle of Yavin-4. And he’s the new owner of the ruins of the Second Death Star. You were the best scavenger at Niima Outpost. I’m sure you're the woman for the job.”
***
Kylo Skywalker was truly a man larger than life.
He wore a black oilskin duster, caped and hooded, festooned with grommets, pockets, and epaulets over a black pair of pilot’s coveralls, tucked into tall black jackboots.
He also wore a huge pair of brown leather and Beskar chrome goggles, with shatterproof mirrored lenses.
And he was the tallest, burliest man that Rey had ever seen.
He sat down across from her at the table she had picked out at the Niima Cantina.
The man had a quiet air of undeniable menace about him.
It put Rey on edge.
“You should try to hide that you have that much strength in the Force. The Sith are real, and the First Order take who they want.”
“Not if I work for you, Jedi Temple dropout, right?"
“I picked a good time to leave. I hear you're the best scavenger at Niima Outpost.”
“I am. Can you take those goggles off? I feel like I’m talking to a man with no eyes.”
He lowered his hood, and took off the goggles.
Time stopped.
And it wasn’t just because Kylo Skywalker the man had grown up to be a black swan with dark, saturnine good looks out of the ugly duckling of a boy that Master Luke had described to her.
It was because Rey was fairly sure it was him.
The man with whom she had shared a bond in the Force, for as long as she could remember.
She never knew his face, or his name, but now that she saw him, she somehow recognized him.
“It’s OK. I feel it, too. The Force brings people together for all kinds of reasons. Look at it this way? Now you’re sure to get the job. You’re hired, Rey…”
Rey shrugged.
“Just Rey. My parents left me when I was a little girl. I never got a last name. I don’t have identity papers, either.”
“That’s OK. I can get you some, if you need them.”
The doors opened.
Rey was excited to see Han and Chewie, again.
Kylo laughed.
He had a beautiful smile.
“My father. And my godfather. But you knew that, because my Uncle sent you here to recruit me. But I get the feeling you might decide to stick with me and the Old Man, instead. Keep that quiet, though.”
Han and Chewbacca sat down.
“She really is a scavenger. A friend of Poe’s. He got her into this mess. I got her out of it. So, you hired her, right, junior?”
“I hired her.”
“How you been, princess? You don’t look so good.” Han asked.
“You can tell us. I used to be you, after all. The Galaxy’s only hope.” Kylo joked.
“It was awful, mostly. Really awful. Master Luke was nothing like I thought he would be. Sometimes, he was very kind. But sad. As if he forgot that he was supposed to be terrible. But some of the things he taught me just confused me. Or scared me. I’m afraid of myself, now. What I might do.” Rey admitted.
“Forget it. Forget everything he taught you. It’s meaningless. The Force has no Dark Side, and no light. That dualistic nerfshit thinking? People made that up. As an excuse to control each other. And make war. You shouldn’t be afraid of what you’ll do, like it’s not up to you. You make your own destiny, Rey. Look at me. I made mine. I’m no Jedi. And I’m no Sith. There is another way. The Grey Path. I can teach it to you, if you want. Think it over. But as for all that poison Uncle Luke poured into your ears? Look what it did to him. Forget it.” Kylo advised her.
“Sounds like Luke is in bad shape, junior.” Han mentioned.
Casually.
“When Rey reports back to him? We’ll send him some supplies.” Kylo said.
“Rey, do you really want to be a Jedi?” Han asked her.
Nobody had asked her that, yet.
“I don’t know.”
“Well, try working with us for awhile. If you don’t want to go back? I won’t send you. I learned my lesson on that. With junior, here. Even after that Snoke bastard burned the Temple, Luke tried to get me to send my kid back to him, one more time. I said no. Since then, I get to visit my wife, but we don’t live together. And the kid and her aren’t on good terms. But Ben’s alive, and doing good, and the Sith and the First Order didn’t get him. It’s worth it. Don’t go back if you don’t want to. Let ‘em have their farkling war, without you. Fuck ‘m.” Han told her.
Kylo raised his pitcher.
“Dark side? Light side? Fuck it. My side.” He said.
He motioned to the Rodian barman.
“Rey works for me and Solo, now. If there’s trouble with her? You’ve got trouble with all of us.”
“I never had trouble with Rey. You made a good choice, Rey. These guys are the real deal. Order what you want, kiddo. The Arkanian has deep pockets. The deepest in the Galaxy.”
Rey was very hungry.
She ordered a lot of food, and a cheap half bottle of red wine.
“Don’t bring her the cheap stuff.” Kylo told the Rodian.
“Why are you so rich, Kylo?” Rey asked.
“He gets dressed up like another Darth Vader. Red lightsaber and all. And we raid First Order ships with full cargo holds. Or Crimson Dawn freighters. Sometimes First Order warehouses and depots. All he has to do is show up and…say it, Vader junior. Say your thing.” Han suggested.
“I am Kylo Skywalker, Lord Vader. All of this belongs to me. Surrender to me all that I ask for. Or you will die. Quickly! I find your lack of haste disturbing.”
Rey shivered.
But, much to her shame, not entirely in fear.
“That’s why I call him junior. Because I ain’t calling him Kylo. I didn’t name him Kylo. You should see these assholes give up. They usually just kneel and grovel. Sometimes, we have to get tough? But most of the time? It’s all money, it’s all for the taking, and it’s all ours.” Han explained.
“I also liberate Stormtroopers. Snoke takes them from their families, when they are children. And he brainwashed, humiliates, tortures, and enslaves them. The First Order takes their faces and their names, and makes them kill. For Snoke. It’s what he did to me. It’s what he meant for me. I didn’t deserve to live that way. No one does.” Kylo added.
“What happens to them?”
“If they have a home to go to? I help them return to it. Or find a job. Some of them work for me. They are my people, I am their Chieftain. No one else cares about them. Not my mother. Not the Resistance. Not the New Republic. I care.” Kylo told her.
Rey nodded.
The idea that Darth Vader’s grandson, the Galaxy’s only Grey Jedi Master, a ruthless pirate with unlimited money, was the self-styled Arkanian-style Clan Chieftain of a small army of loyalists with military training was a little unsettling.
And that’s why the General wants him. She wants not just her son, but his people, and the influence he has over not just them, but potentially the First Order.
When Rey thought that, Kylo turned to her.
“The Old Man and I are dangerous, ruthless men. But compared to my mother? We’re baby Ewoks.”
“I’ll drink to that.” Han agreed.
And just like that, Rey was working for the Outer Rim Cartel.
Her food and wine showed up.
“So, junior, I talked to the guy? The guy about identity papers for Rey. You object to her being a Solo?”
Kylo smiled at Rey in a way that let her know she wasn’t the only one thinking what she was thinking.
“As long as she isn’t supposed to be my sister? It’s fine by me.” Kylo replied.
"Nah. It says I'm her legal guardian until she's 21. So, that way, nobody can steal you, from me, Rey. I also put you down as Junior's common law wife. Then, after you're 21? Nobody can steal you from him. Considering the way you two keep looking at each other? I figure you don't mind."
"So, this is my wedding night?" Kylo asked
"Watch it, kid. They're just papers. It's not like I bought her from Unkar Plutt and I'm giving her to you."
"Yes, Kylo. This is our wedding night." Rey told him.
Chewbacca made a comment.
"It was not fast, Chewie. Rey is her. The girl of Ben's dreams. It's the Thunderbolt. Didn't you know, when you first met Mala, that she was the one for you?"
Chewie said something about how he wasn't talking about that kind of knowing.
"Yeah, well, it's none of our business. They're probably just kidding around. Come on, old pal. Let's not be the extra dicks at the wedding."
Han got up.
Chewie said something, sternly, to Ben that Rey didn't understand, and Ben replied earnestly.
Rey decided she was going to have to learn better Shriyyywook.
After Han and Chewie left, Ben opened the bottle of wine.
"Since we've suddenly found ourselves married? I should make you some kind of vow. Think about the loneliness you felt on this desert, Rey. The longing for someone, something to come for you. Think about it, and let it go. Because you'll never be that alone, again." He told her.
"You have nothing to worry about, Ben. You're every bit as strong as Darth Vader. And just as much a man as Han Solo. You may think you're the ugly duckling. But you've transformed into a beautiful black swan. What happens, now?"
"We'll eat our dinner, and drink this bottle of vintage Corellian red. And then? We'll start doing whatever the fuck we want. And we'll keep doing whatever the fuck we want, until death comes for us. And the son of a bitch is going to have to sneak up on me."
Kylo poured two glasses of wine.
Rey began to think this might really be where she was meant to be, after all.
Happy fanfiction day!
