Scottish Folklore: Salt and Sin Eaters 🧂💀
Customs that use salt for protection or purification are almost found world-wide, and that includes Scotland. It was so seriously thought of, that salt(sometimes in a chamberpot) was a necessary wedding gift, and salt was to be the first possession that was moved into a new house.
“At a ‘flitting,’ the first thing moved into the new house was commonly the salt-box, and salt was catered ‘for luck.’ again, in St. Kilda, when the cattle were moved from one pasture to another, they were sained with salt, fire, and water.”

One of the reasons salt was so relied upon was it’s protective possibilities against fairies. For example, some fairies would not except gifts of food if they had salt (though others would), and thrown salt could cleanse an area as an offering.
“Till quite lately, fishing on the Tweed was believed to be influenced by the fairies of the river. Salt was thrown into the water, and sprinkled on the nets to insure a plentiful catch of fish. This was really the offering of a sacrifice to the river-spirits.”

It is common for fairies to share an association with the dead, and the folklore of salt is yet another example of a saining item that could be used for either.

1. “A former practice, in blessing a corpse, of the attendants putting their hands in the three empty dishes placed on the hearth near the body, and repeating the rhyme of saining, beginning thus: — ‘Thrice the torchie, thrice the saltie, Thrice the dishes toom for loffie’”

After the body of a dead person was properly cared for, a plate of salt was often placed upon the dead persons chest. It was this salt that Sin-eaters would partake in.
Sin-eaters were people who were paid to take in the sin of the dead into themselves(hence, sin-eating) and therefore clearing the dead person of sin.
“Of the curious custom of “sin-eating”—that is, the placing of a piece of bread upon the salt by a recognized individual known as the sin-eater, who, for money reward, at the same time partook of it, thereby, as it was believed, absorbing to himself all the sins of the deceased—there is little to be gleaned in this district.”

Since those sin-eaters would be taking in the sins, they were seen as having be “full of sin,” and would be shunned by society.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
I LOVED Ed and Izzy before the fandom made it fucked up, I loved them in all their toxic hurting each other glory, Ed sobbing Stede's name while he fucks Izzy? Izzy telling Ed to call him Stede while he fucks him? My god the possibilities and look what they did to her look how they butchered my girl 😔
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I hated both Izzy and CJ as individuals but the fandom made me see the light by putting them together and making it the funniest most insane shit ever? One of my favourite fics of calicohands is CJ as a ghost hunter who blows ghost!izzy yeehaw style and damn it's so good and im glad what started as a crack ship is now something i ship unironically absbsndjdk (I'll find the fic and link it here later)
17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen...
Instead of spending time trying to set up Olu and Zheng, I'd have spent more time showing how Auntie and Zheng parallel Izzy and Ed but the resolution of Auntie not being Izzy and genuinely loving Zheng beyond her being the pirate queen, not falling into the insanity - it would have been incredible to watch because Auntie was the best new character introduced in s2 (to me)

Larry/Mr Saguaro Food Headcanons

Among his coworkers and regulars at the Treasury Eatery, Larry is well known for his fixation on food. However, he is a poor cook who also has no time due to juggling 3 jobs. So he visits the Treasury Eatery pretty much on a daily basis 👩🍳
Becoming close with Saguaro changed Larry’s usual routine. Instead of running out early to buy prepackaged sandwiches, Larry eats a full and balanced out breakfast that soothes his hunger for a good while 🍳
Saguaro lovingly prepares homemade boxed lunches for Larry. Saguaro values presentation in cooking, so Larry often opens up his lunch to see heart-shaped vegetables haha. One time, Larry opened it up to find the rice colored and shaped to look like Pachirisu. His coworkers often express their jealousy, but he ignores them to eat his food in peace haha 🥕
Of course, Larry still has to go to the Treasury Eatery for his Gym Battles, but now he has a sense of satisfied calmness instead of a frantic hunger. After a battle, he can’t help but grab a “snack” though 🍙
Saguaro is passionate about cooking and baking, and knows how to feed many different palates for both people and Pokémon. He’s always whipping up something, and the smell of his rich herbs and spices always peaked Larry’s interest 🌿
Larry has woken up from naps solely because he smelled good food. Once Saguaro realized this, it never ceased to make him laugh. Saguaro takes note of how Larry’s nose twitches before he jolts up to investigate the kitchen 💤
Saguaro has a collection of aprons that he’s bought and made. It seems he has an apron for every occasion haha. Larry has slowly been able to deduct the type of meals Saguaro is making from the apron alone 👗
Saguaro used to let Larry taste-test food due to his eagerness. However, he got frustrated at how Larry’s response was always “tastes good” instead of a helpful critique haha 🤤
Whenever Larry was stressing over papers and bills, Saguaro would always pop by and hand him some fruit slices 🍉
Once, when Larry was distracted reading the newspaper, Saguaro put a piece of food near his mouth to see if Larry would eat it. Larry ate it with zero hesitation, still focused on the newspaper. He was rather embarrassed about it once he realized! 📰
Despite his initial embarrassment, Larry accepts eating the occasional snack that Saguaro holds out. This has resulted in amusing situations at the Treasury Eatery, and the hand-feeding is how most of the regulars figured out that Larry and Saguaro were partners 🍽
Once Saguaro learned that Larry could only make burnt ramen noodles, he quickly put him into training. He insists that everyone should know some basic, quick, homemade meals instead of dining out or buying prepackaged 🍜
After several lessons, Larry decided to show his thankfulness by making a boxed lunch for Saguaro to take to the Academy. Saguaro was extremely pleased receiving the box, and showed off the clumsy yet well-cooked food to all of his students haha 🍱
Larry has a soft belly, I know he does. Saguaro thinks it’s really cute, but also doesn’t bring much attention to it 💕
They like eating together whenever they have the chance. Saguaro feels like it means a lot, because Larry usually hates any type of interaction while he’s eating. Usually, it’s because eating is the only peaceful moment he has. But Larry happily shares his space with Saguaro 🕊
Saguaro likes sweet flavors best, but is strict about health because of it. He dislikes all bitter flavors, and says that bitterness gives him the impression that the food has gone bad 🍨
Larry likes savory flavors best. Food with rich, savory scents grabs his attention the most. He likes meals that have a “kick” to them, such as a hint of sourness or spiciness, as long as it isn’t too overboard. He dislikes salty flavors, as he feels a sharp discomfort in his mouth when a meal is too salty. To him, a bad cook is someone who oversalts or even uses salty flavors in their meals haha 🧂

There are tons of NoTPs, no? I think Beth and Dean are the most widely agreed upon one. Idk anyone who wants them together. 😂 Annie and literally every guy she’s ever touched, also NoTP. For me in particular, her garbage boyfriend was the most exhausting and excruciating one. Like, come ON, Annie! Enough already. But by that point I’d had my fill of her romantic melodramas.
23. Unpopular character you love?
Hmm, let me think of someone new who won’t get me pitchforked. 😂
Maybe Gayle? Idk if I love her. But I don’t really mind her. She gave Dean a taste of his own medicine, so to speak. Although idk if that lesson ever really landed for him, considering he was actually attracted to her and wanted the affair. And also, the power dynamics between them were not equivalent to when Dean sexually harassed his female employees. I mostly appreciate that Gayle was actually a reflection of Dean’s growing insecurity in his own marriage. She was close to his own age, not exactly a flagrant seductress. She was mostly sad and desperate and really mirrored Dean’s own state of mind. The fact that even she looked down on him in the end brought him ever-closer to admitting that his marriage was over and he wasn’t the main character in his own life like he considered himself to be during all those affair years.
I also like season 4 salty Stan. And I know this is probably mostly unpopular. But I think his ultimate stance is a believable one. And while it doesn’t suit Beth, it was an important point to make in his own marriage. I wish there was more blatantly stated conflict between Stan and Ruby when it came to Beth. I do headcanon a lot about it, but it’s like the show glossed over the resentment Stan must have felt for a long time about Ruby’s enablement of the Boland Rule.

9) Most disliked character(s)? Why?
The Zogratis family is an easy target for this question so I'm gonna extend my reach just a bit more and say...
Alecdora Sandler.
Genuinely, fuck that guy. I know another character that's pretty easy to hate but let me give my why.
He's a character to made to hate on Yuno and everything he does. I hate Alecdora not because he's hating on Yuno. But because he doesn't seem to have an effect on Yuno. Like, Yuno couldn't give an iota of a shit about Alecdora's opinions and just outdoes him because he just happens to be there (yes I know Alecdora intentionally went after Yuno but the Noelle vs Solid confrontation had much more of my attention). I don't need Yuno to internalize Alecdora's hater comments the way Noelle internalizes her siblings' remarks but can I get SOMETHING out of Yuno for having to deal with Alecdora being on his ass all the time? If Yuno showed more annoyance or even vocalized "I don't give a shit about you, my eyes are on the title of Wizard King," I wouldn't be so irritated with Alecdora. He's bothering me more than the in-universe character he's giving grief!
So glad Alecdora's character was quietly put in a corner because we didn't need him to begin with. We already knew through Klaus that the Golden Dawn loved Captain William. And we knew from just... the whole manga, that nobility looked down on peasants. So Alecdora was redundant on top of being annoying. Which is definitely a losing combo.
So again. Genuinely, fuck that guy.
15) Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?
(deep breath) There should've been more anime filler.
I KNOW I KNOW! CRIMINAL THOUGHT TO HAVE! BUT HEAR ME OUT!
The expansion of some scenes and details would've helped slow the anime when it came to creeping up on manga events. I know that early episodes of the anime dragged things out but they also provided extra scenes for some characters like Magna. His backstory as presented in the manga was as minimal as one could get. But it got a lot more elaboration in the anime.
There are other things too that we could've seen more of in the anime adaptation of Black Clover. I mean, how cool would it have been to get half an episode dedicated to each of the BB groups who set out to find a cure for Asta's broken and cursed arms? Maybe even a full episode for Magna and Luck's adventure? And I mean, Fanzell's backstory from the first light novel got adapted for the anime so...
Look, Tabata is a co-writer of the light novels. Perhaps Onda (the other credited writer) takes the lead but Tabata is likely credited for some kind of input on what the light novels. And the anime creators are aware of the light novels since they adapted the Fanzell story from the first book for the sake of anime viewers' understanding.
In my opinion, it wouldn't be too big of a stretch for the anime writers and directors to have looked to the light novels for series content to adapt into the anime when catching up to the main manga storyline was something they had to worry about.
But the anime is already aired as is. Can't change it now.
So when I say that the anime should've had more filler, what I really mean is that there was a lot of missed opportunities in terms of content that could've been expanded upon or adapted. Anime viewers would get more out of it. The anime would've had less need for the anime filler that we did end up getting. And heck maybe it even would've set a precedent for adapting the light novel content of manga series in addition to the original source material.
16) If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?
For one, our ocs become canon. Yes, I said that last time but it's still a deep, selfish wish of mine.
Another option for change I have is reworking a lot of the fashion choices for the characters...
But for a story change... Yami could've offered the elves a place in the Black Bulls. Which they would've rejected in order to be in Elysia. Cause, hey, Yami recruited a criminal like Gauche. And theft isn't as serious as terrorism but Yami is displaced from his home physically and the elves as displaced from their homes temporally. He could see a bit of himself in them. Again, I'd have the elves turn down the offer but it just means that they have even more reason to be there to help the Heart Kingdom crew. After someone reached out a hand to them, it'd be their turn to reach their hands out.

The dawning realization that the clone assassin could be Cody and every atom of my being going
For real though. :( ][warning, salty rant ahead x_x 🧂)
I saw the assassin clone get up after being blown up and being a defiant little shit to Wolffe and was like, "Oh, shit. Is that my boi?" 😨 Overall, I just don't trust the show not to throw him under the bus like this.
First we had the curse of 'by the book' and "Haha, Cody boring! Nobody (Jedi) wants to bring him along on missions because he's dumb!" Then we had the entirely of Clone Wars show where he never once got to use his jetpack or do basically any paratrooper stuff, train anybody, or be part of the breakthrough of clones being allowed to have names/identities (the show literally never explains how this went from being illegal and neigh punishable by death or 'reprogramming' to "All the good guys call clones by their names cuz they're human beings."). History with Bad Batch, nah. Squad Seven, nah. How he went AWOL from the Empire, nah. Then the inhibitor chips taking away any nuance or grey areas of Order 66 ...
At this point, I'm just waiting from them to take the very last shreds of his agency and personality away and basically turn him into the Phase 0 Dark Trooper that I was so afraid I was going to see when this series began. There's a reason why I keep watching "The Solitary Clone" from last season. Not only does it showcase some of the best parts of who Cody is and what he does, but it got to the core questions and subtleties of who the clones are and the problems they face. (basically everything I wanted from this show and Clone Wars)
It's such a weird feeling knowing that a character that quickly grew into more than just a flat background character, and built the foundation (alongside Alpha) for opening the door to all anti-war themes and other clone characters, could be back in the picture purely to receive more punishment as a mere plot device. And, I know that Cody's story is not one that the showrunners were interested in telling at any point, but it's such a bummer for me if this is how they plan on bringing his story to its canonical conclusion. He hears the frigging call 🤙😬
He raises an eyebrow at you, bc who is this BOY who owns a RESTAURANT making CURRIES for his SIGNIFICANT OTHER TO TASTE??
Jay has had a thing for you for a long time
Bottling up his painfully obvious crush on you caused it to build up over time
And as soon as you were HIS, he wasn't willing to let you go 😊

Noticing his face, you speak back to ✨Brandon✨ with a worried tone
"Uhm... ✨Brandon✨, are you sure it should be me? You know what I'm like, I would eat anything -"
"Oh I'm sure, Y/N. I value your opinion. Even when it's something like curry." He reassures you on the other line, not aware that Jay was listening
"Can you come soon? I'm real excited for your feedback 😄"
Jay twitches his nose, his hand gripping his phone way too hard. He'd been staring at the same Insta post for too long
You clear your throat, wondering what to say in order to make ✨Brandon✨ sound less... Needy?
Best bet was to end it quickly
"Uh, okay, sure. See you soon, I'll set off for your place in ten"
"Make that sixty" Jay said quietly, ready to get possessive 🤭
"Uh, bye!" you said, switching your phone off
Immediately, not giving you time to SIGH, Jay fires at you
"Who is ✨Brandon✨?" He asks
"A friend of mine"
"Right. And why does he need you of all people to taste his precious curry?" Jay deadpans
You sort of lean back into the couch, not sure what to say without making him any more annoyed
As said, Jay DOES have a lot of pride when it comes to food
But he has even more pride in his partner

"Well?" he pushes
"Oh my gosh, Jay, it's just a friend who wants me to try his curry. If ✨Brandon✨ was a girl, I'd doubt you react like this" you fold your arms
Jay frowns, shaking his head in his defense. You refused to 'awh' at how cute he was
"I'm just saying that he doesn't need you to do it. Or does he not have friends?"
It continues like this. Salty 🧂 remarks
You become pretty agitated, and soon enough you're both stood up and protesting against the other person
Until
"God, Jay, just let me eat the freaking curry! It won't kill me." 🙄🙄
If you want to eat so bad, there's something in my room I could give you"
And you're like...
Sure, if it's on the menu 👀

And rather than setting off in ten or sixty minutes... Well, you were a lil later than that
