Therian! Baby brother Logan & Older sibling Remy has my whole heart rn so I wrote this one shot :3

(Remy is a she/her nb)

“-Yeah, and then I was like- Oh, one sec. Logan’s at the door.” Remy turned the phone away and looked to her baby brother. “What’s up, pipsqueak?”

“I, uh,” Logan took a deep breath, before he began to move into the other’s room. “I have something to tell you.”

Remy raised an eyebrow slightly, hanging up on the friend to keep things just between the siblings. “What’s up? Are you being bullied again? I know I’m eighteen now, so I can’t beat a kid’s ass, but I could hire some other eleven year old to-”

“No- No.” Logan chuckled awkwardly, getting on the bed besides Remy when she offered the room. “I… I’m a therian.”

“What?”

“I’m a therian.”

“Logan, you know damn well I mean what as in ‘what is that’ and not what as in ‘what did you say’.” As mean as it might have sounded, Logan would know and take it as a lighthearted statement.

“Oh, right.” He smiled slightly.

Even with the smile, however, it was clear he was anxious. He knew his sister wouldn’t be disgusted by him or anything; at most she just wouldn’t understand— but would still be okay with it!

“So,” Logan started, but then took a moment to think. What was the best way to explain this to Remy? “A therian, essentially, is someone who identifies as some sort of animal. There’s more to it, and different versions, and stuff, but I don’t want to confuse you or anything.”

“Kinda like a furry?” Remy asked, trying to relate something she knew about to the conversation.

“Uh, no. A furry is someone who enjoys anthropomorphic animals and sometimes dresses like one. A therian is someone who is physically human and identifies as an animal.” He held his breath as the other nodded silently, thinking more. He let it go when the other spoke.

“Cool.” She ruffled his hair a tad. “So, like, what animal thing are you? Ooh, are you a dragon? That’d be cool.”

Logan laughed softly, relaxing against the wall behind him. “No, no. I’m a dog, I’m not sure what kind just yet, but I can tell I’m a dog.”

“Ah, dang. Dragons are cooler. Maybe I’m a dragon.”

Logan smiled slightly, nodding. “Yeah, maybe…”

Weeks passed by, and the conversation wasn’t brought up again. Logan assumed that Remy had forgotten about the whole thing and what he had said to her. It’s not that it 𝘶𝘱𝘴𝘦𝘵 him or anything… He just wished she would’ve been more into it, or maybe asked more questions, or something, he didn’t know. But she didn't hate him or was disgusted by him, so he was happy enough.

It was Logan’s birthday now. Well, actually, his birthday was in a few days, but his birthday 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 was today. It wasn’t a big party, as Logan didn’t have very many friends his age, but it was the perfect size for him. His mom and dad were there, obviously. As was his sister Remy, her partner Remus, Remus’s brother Roman (who Logan has never met before, but still liked because Roman had the biggest gift). There was Remy’s ex boyfriend Cody, and Logan’s nephew Luis. There were a few family members Logan didn’t quite recognize, yet claimed to remember him when he was only 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘪𝘴𝘴 small, but they mainly stuck to the back porch to socialize with most of the other adults.

The party took place in the Somnums’ backyard, which was just the right size for every family get-together. Most of the adults, as stated before, were on the back porch conversing with one another; however, three adults (the coolest adults there) were sitting in the shed Logan lovingly called his ‘tree house with the tree not included’. The three talked about what they thought was in each gift, what Logan thought would be the best present, how much money they’d think he’d get, etc.

Soon enough, however, Logan realized something very important. Remy hadn’t brought him a gift. It’s not that Logan is one of those kids that expect a gift from everyone on the planet come their birthday, no, it was the fact Remy 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 had not given him a gift. For as long as he could remember, even when he was just adopted, Remy always gave him at least one gift. He was never told ‘it hasn’t come in the mail yet’, because in cases where it actually was still in the mail, Remy would go to the store as soon as possible to get a gift. Remy 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 was left with no present.

Worry began to sink into Logan while the other three got lost in a conversation about some silly topic. Remy had been talking about moving in with Remus so she could be closer to college and not have to spend as much money. Was she broke? Could she even support herself? Remus was rich, was Remy forcing herself in a relationship so she could have a stable money source? Logan loved his sister dearly, and couldn’t stand the thought of her in a miserable life. So, he decided to ask if she was financially stable and safe. It just didn’t sound how he meant it— to outside ears at the least.

“Where’s my present?”

Remus almost began to snort at the invasive sounding question, stopping with a gruff mumble when Remy slapped their arm.

Without his consent, Logan’s lip quivered and his eyes grew wet behind his glasses. Remy stood up from her awkward position on the floor, a smile as soft as it was sympathetic was on her face. She offered her arms for a hug, easily wrapping them around the worried boy when he accepted. She petted his head softly, allowing the other to relax in the hug and calm himself before saying anything.

What she 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥to say was something along the lines of: “it’s okay, I’m okay, I simply don’t want to give you your gift right now. I will later though.”

But what she 𝘥𝘪𝘥 say was, “It’s in my room. If I’m totally honest, it’s an awesome gift. 𝘞𝘢𝘢𝘺𝘺 too awesome for these losers. They don’t even get to see it, because it’s so awesome and better than their gifts, unless you give them permission.” She stopped talking, then thought of something, so quickly added on to the statement. “But when you open it, they’re not allowed to see. It’ll blind them and shit, too cool.”

Logan couldn’t help but smile, looking up at the other. “You said awesome practically a million times.”

Remy shrugged, booping her brother. “Because it’s, like, a million times awesomer than these boring gifts.”

“‘Awesomer’ isn’t even a word.”

“Sure it is, pipsqueak, I’m looking at a shining example of one.” She cupped his cheeks, squishing them in her hands.

Logan laughed, rolling his eyes. “Yeah, whatever.”

The party went by wonderfully. They ate food, had cake and other sweets, sang until Logan was beyond embarrassed, and finally opened presents. His presents are as follows, if you’re even interested: a large science experiment kit, two books (one about dinos and one about axolotls), ballet style shoes, skateboarding gear, tickets to a ballet performance in the next town over, money from family members who didn’t know what to get, and whatever it was Remy had hidden away in her room. Logan was quite happy with what he had gotten.

Most of the guests stayed longer than the party was meant to be, the Queen twins leaving so they could get home in time. Luckily Logan’s parents understood how tired the boy could get, and allowed him to go to his room to recover after so much socializing. He laid down on his bed, thinking. What was it that Remy could have gotten him? What was so awesome that others weren’t allowed to see it yet? His thoughts continued until he had fallen asleep.

He awoke with a gasp. Perfectly reasonable thing to do whenever your older sister plops down on your bed and causes you to be tossed up a bit. Logan's eyes had shot open when the events happened, and he sat up quickly so he could better figure out what was happening. He saw Remy and he began to relax somewhat. Okay, he was safe, he wasn't being abducted by aliens or anything.

“Remy, what time is it? What do you want?” He grabbed his glasses from his bedside table, putting them on.

“It's not too late, don't worry. Anyways, I have your gifts, if you want to open them now?”

Logan smiled and nodded faintly. He adjusted to sit besides Remy, brushing his fingers through his hair to try and fix it. He watched as Remy left the room for a short amount of time, and came back with a box that was probably just outside his door.

“Phew,” Remy huffed out, dropping the box on the floor in front of Logan as if it was the heaviest thing in the world. “Alrighty, open it up. If you open it fast enough, I’ll think about taking you out to 7-11, or something, and we can go eat ice cream on the roof.”

Logan's smile brightened, not saying anything as he began to open up the box. He froze when he saw the interior contents, a choked noise leaving him. Inside the box were three, most likely very expensive, things. A dog-ear headband, a mask in the style of a husky, and a matching tail made to hook onto a belt. Logan wasn’t sure if he was a husky or not, but he knew huskies were Remy's favorite dog. He didn’t realize that he had begun crying until Remy was awkwardly hugging Logan, worried that she had done something wrong or had somehow offended the other.

“Oh– Pipsqueak– Don’t cry– I’m sorry–” Remy said softly, petting his hair to try and calm him.

“I love it–” He said through sobs, hugging it all carefully close to himself. “I love you–”

“Oh,” She smiled softly, kissing her younger brother’s forehead. “I love you too…”

I also feel like demons can control how animalistic they look, like when al goes full demon he gets more deer characteristics

so same goes for you

I can Def see you lounging full animal and al walking in and just starts talkin to you. Only after he gets on you for getting fur (if furry) on the Furniture

but if theres many animals it's a Lil more tricky

i feel like if its more predominant to a species type like canine, feline, reptile etc etc, then you'd take a more basic form of the species, and then depending on the subtypes, like house cat, small lizards, etc, then you get more specific features so on and so Forth.

But if it's like.. two distinctly different types, like how husk is cat with bird wings, then its a mixy-match without really being able to go full animal mode.

Either way alastor is helping with getting the care items you need

oh, your species needs a specific shampoo? Done. Preening? He'll help but he won't be to fond of it bc of the elongated touching.

Want a item that will help dysphoria (is that the right term in this context?) About not having enough of the features? Dw pookie, he gotchu

But i see the dysphoria worse with otherkins than therians, just bc of how manifesting seems to Look

Alastor stil helps with any and all care products you may need, even preening and when scales get funky.

If dysphoria kicks in bros cooking you food and peeling fruit but dont expect him to be a shoulder to cry on and for him to pat your back.

if your animal is more water based he totes gets you a pool to swim in. Like in ground, deep as shit and lighted, heated and with nice walls.

AITA for telling a tiktoker that they have no right to speak upon Native American 'issues'?

Backstory, I somehow ended up on the therian side of tiktok, and curiously there's A L O T of infighting. I think the worst yet most humorous part of the infighting is how hypocritical the adults in that community are. A few months ago I had stumbled across a page "Speaking out" against some stuff that was wrong with the community.

In one of the slides the person had said that using feathers as any type of decor is "Appropriating native culture". I, personally was quite confused.. because to appropriate native american culture wouldn't I have to be wearing and decorating those feathers WITH the context of that culture and not just because they looked cool?

I shot this question toward the 21-year-old creator and sat back and waited for a response. A few seconds later they sent a reply, I checked it out and it was basically them asking what part of it I didn't understand. I pointed out that to me the wording was off, and by what I understood from the context it said that ANYTHING to do with feathers was cultural appropriation. They continued to talk in a circle with me for two fucking hours basically passive aggressively telling me I was 'stupid' or 'slow' for not understanding the wording in this fucking tiktok slide paragraph. Eventually, we came to the point that their native american friend wrote it, I was again like, oh the wording just made it confusing and continued to tell the creator that they should have just told me that this was a subject that they couldn't answer on because they were white. (And I mean pale asf white, I checked their previous videos and damn she was a basic blonde bitch) They continued to passively aggressively tell me that their friend wrote it and that they had "no clue as to why you're so confused when it's written right there."

I was just.. asking for clarification??

Idk it seems white savior-y to me but I might be tripping. Thoughts anyone?

Watched that Netflix movie "Damsel" last night.

I can say, it was pretty awesome. Like I loved how the movie didn't wait to show us the dragon until the last five minutes, we got to see how the dragon moved, spoke, flew, and got close up shots and all that. The dragon had character, emotions, motives.

As a othekin, I always keep some movies in my back pocket if I'm looking for some representation. This one is definitely getting added to the list.

It scratched a movie itch that I thought would never be soothed. Not only that, but the human characters were all really interesting too. It's a simple movie sure, but deeper themes are there.

Either way, loved it. Would recommend for a solid watch. Nothing groundbreaking but enjoyable.

Repressing kintypes

Repression is the act of unconsciously pushing down unwanted thoughts, feelings or urges. It’s in the long term not exactly healthy and typically is a sign of a poor environment.

That’s to say when i first joined the therian community I was excited. In my childhood I suffered but in turn became extremely in touch with nature. My childhood nickname was “little deer” there was no question for me what I was it felt obvious. I was the forest guardian, I was the symbol of the forest, I was- a wolf? Wait what?

Well interesting thing about being a deer or a herbivore in general in the old therian community. Expect to get eaten. I didn’t want to get eaten or verbally abused. I was sick of the torment I got from it. So- I learned something. I’ll do what deer do and run. Right off from all these problems right into something stronger.

If I can’t be a deer i’ll be a ‘wolf’ were plural. We have ‘wolf’ alters so they can just front which means we are technically truthful. In turn our main personality cluster becomes dormant. To fit into the harsh categories pf something I felt I desperately needed at the time to save myself and survive everything else that was happening in my life.

I buried myself. I looked at myself knowingly and shot myself like a cabellas hunter and tossed the body in a ditch saying “i do feel bad but this is for the best” to turn around and roleplay as a wolf. Well to be honest it never felt right. Not for all of me at least. I felt forced to be fearsome while others took pride in it. I felt the urgency to do it to survive not because its fun.

In a room full of teeth why should I announce I have none? So playing along was my deepest urgency. This became so apparent it intertwined with who I was. I have to be scary. I have to show I am a carnivore. I have to show I am strong. Yet with every failure I spiraled. Depressed. Angry. I just want to be gentle thats my inherent nature. Virtuous. Strong but caring.

I don’t want to bite someone. I wanted to headbutt them. I didn’t want to eat raw meat it makes me sick. I wanna have veggies. But I can’t because not at that time. If I was a deer it was seemingly endless pestering. How would I introduce myself? I was to terrified to admit I was different.

I intertwined some characteristics pf my deepest parts of myself with being a deer. Cause I had been one for so long. I was always told I was gentle and caring. Soft and loving. People always said I have the body type of a deer long and slender. I was quiet like one. It was how i identified my feminity. I never minded being in a dress as a deer. It felt like a love letter to the flowers and grass I eat.

I was happy. But it had to go. Because when I got older these traits didn’t help me survive. So you draw the bow and let the arrow ring. When I came into therianthropy I was already partially repressing my deer traits. I didn’t understand why or what I was doing. I just did what it took to survive.

When I came across wolves and tried to pass off I was dual typed as deer and wolf the wolf was always accepted but the deer was always caught and questioned. So I stopped mentioning it. I was tired of being harassed.

Now the years have passed. The deer types come back. Stronger than before. Stronger than my carnivorous kintypes. I stand in awe with a feeling of being soaked in blood. That despite everything the original me is still here. That as a deer I weaved every obstacle and conflict. I ran when I needed to and hid until it was safe instead of dying I survived in the background.

Perhaps it’s feeling comfortable in the community. Maybe it’s feeling accepted. But I feel comfortable showing these sides now that aren’t so hard and edgy. Especially with this blog. I would have never imagined my voice would be listened to or ever considered.

My repressed kintypes are more feral i would say. They have a stronger urge to survive than even scar parasite kintype. Those parts of me feel stronger, tougher, more durable. They learned from the background and made choices to help us along without ever being seen.

Inside It feels painful. Having known now what all was missing it makes sense. I mourn for the time lost but at the same time understand how important those choices were. I wish I could have always been this way but that’s not the way of the this world.

I feel it’s probably more common to repress kintypes or parts of ourselves. It’s unfortunate how it happens. I was surprised to find how strong those parts are. Needless to say I won’t fuck with a deer.

margay propaganda for the @little-cat-showdown poll:

margays are a small cat similar to the oncilla and the better-known ocelot in appearance and range. they're native to the extremely dense tropical rainforests of central and south america, and they're very, very cute.

they're the only member of the Leopardus genus still in the little cat showdown-- the oncilla and pampas cat were eliminated in the first round; the kodkod, ocelot, andean mountain cat, and geoffrey's cat were eliminated in the second. Leopardus have fewer chromosomes than other felids and are the oldest genetic branch of American small cats!

some unique things about margays: - as i understand it, they're the only fully arboreal/tree-dwelling cat! their wrists can rotate a full 360°, making them the only small cat able to climb straight down trees just as easily as they climb up, dangle upside-down, etc. (clouded leopards are the only large cat with this adaptation, and even they spend a lot of time on the ground while hunting) - they're talented mimics and will imitate the distress calls of an infant of their prey species to attract prey while hunting! while there are reports of other American cat species (jaguars and pumas) doing the same, margays are currently the only one we have a confirmed recording of

i'm also biased towards them bc i'm a margay therian + furry and i'm not used to seeing my species on these kinds of polls, let alone seeing it get so far. but i think, especially with how small this poll is, that we have a real shot of making it to the finals! if you send me proof of voting for margays in the current little cat showdown poll, i'll make a moodboard of your choice or do a traditional headshot doodle of a character of your choice. we're currently losing by 2% of 330 votes--that's just six votes. here's a picture of my fursona as drawn by/commissioned from @esmeraldablazingsky as thanks for reading this, plus a doodle drawn by myself to demonstrate my headshot doodle abilities!
