Clearly Luis likes to paint himself as a ladies' man, but unlike the typical charismatic bachelor, he's definitely got one thing holding him back from that luxuriously free lifestyle: when he's with the right person he's got baby fever like you wouldn't believe, and it never really goes away.

It always starts slow with that initial conversation of "so how do you feel about kids?" and a positive answer may as well be a proposal to Luis when it comes to you. He starts making offhand comments about seeing the cutest baby in the park the other day or mentioning that the schools are enrolling for kindergarten this month, and "wouldn't it be nice if we had our own..." like the hints he was dropping before just weren't enough. Because then he's fantasizing about what your kids would look like and even busts out all that research on genetics he's done just for fun, illustrating what kind of genes your children might get from each of you and how adorable they would look with your features put together.

And obviously you get to hold it over him if he's being a menace on occasion. Luis might be bothering you about something or disappearing at random to go play hero again, and all it takes to rein him in is you wondering aloud about whether or not you could really trust him to be a good father. And he'll come racing in with reassurances that he is! He will be! Just give him a chance, mi amor, and he'll show you he can be the best father you've ever seen--if he could figure out how, he would even carry the baby for you just to save you the physical toll of childbirth and postpartum. He wants one so badly but at the same time, he understands the trials and tribulations of carrying a child to term better than most men, so it's definitely not a small ask from him and he certainly acknowledges that.

If and when it finally comes time for you to let him have a crack at knocking you up, Luis is downright methodical about it right up until you actually conceive. He keeps a calendar of your cycle and maps out your ovulation days to figure out the best time to try, starts giving you vitamins and other supplements to take to help boost your immune system ("healthy body, healthy baby, mi vida!"), and Luis even looks into different positions he can try in the bedroom to help the fertilization process. He's almost too scientific about it but it's so cute to watch him pore over those documents and baby books in his reading glasses, making notes and comparing information so he can make it as easy for you as possible throughout the process. He'll do all the work for you that he can--all your job includes is sitting around, being comfortable, and growing your baby until you're ready to pop. You don't have to work, or travel, or stress at all, all Luis wants you to do as your lover and in-home doctor (kinda) is to relax, indulge in your hobbies, and let your body direct you towards whatever it needs. You can do that for him, right, love?

That's not to say he's completely, ahem, sterile about the whole process. Luis doesn't mind being a little messy--and god knows he has no qualms about getting all sloppy and rough when it's time to actually make the baby. He's got a theory that his seed will take easier if you're completely relaxed, so he always starts out with the gentlest, most loving head he can manage between those sweet, pretty thighs. But it never ends that way because before long, Luis' mind clouds with lust as he gets that feverish taste of you on his tongue, and by then he's leaving finger-shaped bruises in your hips and moaning with his lips totally sealed around your clit, totally mindless as he makes your world spin. The scrape of his stubble against your skin and the pressure of his nose grinding into you when he has you ride his face is hypnotic, it's tantalizing, and Luis knows that well enough that he never skips out on going down on you even if he's got limited time. Fingers, tongue, or face, he's going to have you falling apart in his lap no matter what time of the month or how sensitive you might be about exposing yourself--Luis would never judge nor condemn you for anything because no matter what it is, it almost always turns him on more than you could ever realize. He likes his women real, we'll say that much.

And when he's got baby fever, he's just on you like a wildcat on a wounded gazelle, fierce and frisky and so loud and handsy you might just have to tie him up to keep him quiet. It's his time to show you how passionate he can really be and lord does he really show it; he doesn't stop even when both of you have already reached your end, he just hikes your legs up higher on his waist, adjusts the pillow propping up your hips, and groans out a string of babbled praises as he humps your poor, overstimulated body to coax out those last spurts of cum he's got left. He's gotta give it his all, no? No sense leaving such a pretty lady empty when he can fill you all up, and give you everything you need to make a baby for him. He can't really get over the fact that it's just that easy for him to be a part of something so beautiful, nor that someone as gorgeous as you would ever let some worthless fiend like him father your children--the feeling is just indescribable, but he knows that it's pure love. And he knows that he wouldn't ever want it with anyone else besides you.

Who knows, maybe once you have the baby you'll be the one begging him for another--but even with one, Luis will be cherishing that sweet little bundle of life and he'll be hardcore protective over them with every ounce of energy he's got. Well, maybe not every ounce....he's got to save enough to keep an eye out for his precious wife too, doesn't he?

Mass Effect LGBTQ+ representation issues and some headcanons

I've seen a few Mass Effect posts about the sexuality of the trilogy's characters, and I'd like to add my 5 cents, since none of those posts take into account the whole xenophilia aspect of canon relationships. And some of us are here for it. For the aliens. I am here for them. I'm not sorry.

Also, I have to acknowledge the fact that Bioware has made some very questionable choices, and the in-game representation is bad. Like BAD-bad.

I.E.(this list is going to be looong):

All Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko dialog for ME1 and ME2 was written and fully voiced, but NOT INCLUDED in the final version of the game. And I know that the same thing happened to FemShep/Ashley, but that a bit different because...

The only "gay" romances in ME1 and ME2 are for femShep, and either with a female-representing human-like aliens (who like to dress in tight clothes that emphasize the size of their breasts), or with the equally feminine Kelly Chambers in ME2. Because, you know, guys who buy this game will be more tolerant of two "hot chicks making out" (insert a bunch of mods that make your femShep wear only lingerie and look like a TikTok e-girl) than a more realistic same-sex romance.

Especially when this romance is between two guys. Because ew. Right, Bioware? But you also wanted to sell your games to LGBTQ+ folks, so you installed a…

… so-called "gay button" into your games.

Before ME3, no one except for "hot chicks asari" states their sexuality. You can go through two entire games as a straight character completely surrounded by other completely straight characters. Oh, maybe Kelly likes aliens a little too much, but "who doesn't like asari", right? Even asexual salarians are into them. Sure, a straight woman like femShep…

"Hot chicks making out" really sells those game copies, I guess.

If you think ME3 is better, think again. The only two gay characters in the game are Cortez and Traynor, and they are both supporting characters, who are not even in your squad!

Cortez and his whole "I lost my husband" drama is conveniently placed on the lowest deck of the ship, so if this story offends your bigoted sensibilities, you can just ignore him along with the "dumb jock" Vega who is really unpopular with the players. Is it because he's really friendly with an openly gay character? Oh, who knows?

Meanwhile, Traynor is either mocked (oh, she found EDI voice hot and commented on that! what a shame! awkward lesbians, amirite?) or fetishized (don't get me wrong, Donnelly is funny, but his remarks about Traynor are even more yucky than the way he talks about EDI and lube).

But don't get mad about all this, because all the women in the trilogy are fetishized and heavily sexualized. The best example of this is Samara, whose character design is a war crime.

Bioware made Benezia look horrible (she tried to make Saren change his ways not with her power or wits but with those giant bazooms and the cleavage, I guess), and then they doubled down in ME2 and gave a warrior samurai nun a boob window. A FUCKING BOOB WINDOW. Because boys buy games, and they love boobs, y'know.

Oh, and any inappropriate remarks made by NPCs in the game are directed only at the femShep. Just like the MShenko romance, the male version of the dialog is fully voiced, but conveniently excluded from the game. Because guys can't tell other guys that they look hot in "that soldier getup". That can make bigots uncomfortable.

And let's talk about bi representation, because Bioware apparently hates bisexuals as much as straights and some queers do (trust me, as a bisexual I've experienced both types of hatred, and it's ugly). The only bisexual characters in the game are Kaidan and Diana Allers.

If you're a bigot playing as the maleShep, you can "safely" kill Kaidan on Virmire in the middle of the first game and not have to deal with his uncomfortable love confession at all!

So, yeah, Bigots: 1, Representation: 0. The bisexual is successfully killed, congratulations!

If you play as femShep, you won't even know that Kaidan is/was bi. Because who wants a bisexual guy who is comfortable with his sexuality? You can't sell that kind of romance to the good ladies who buy this game.

Diana Allers romance, meanwhile, is laugh-worthy. If you play as maleShep, you won't even know that she's bi. And if you're femShep, this romance is as insignificant as the one with Kelly, you won't even get an achievement for it! You can also kick her out of your ship without any consequences, so she will be KIA offscreen. You will find about it via fucking email. Bigots: 2, Representation: 0. Both of dirty bisexuals are successfully killed, congratulations!

The bi-xenophile Kelly suffers the same fate: no achievement for her romance, you cannot continue the romance after ME2, and she will either take a poison pill and die or be killed in the Collector's Base/Citadel offscreen in ME3. If she survives both the base and the Cerberus attack, you won't even get to say goodbye to her before the final battle of the game. Bigots: 3, Representation: 0

9. And I almost forgot about Omega DLC that kills the only female turian in the game. Who's also into asari. God, they did her dirty.

"Those were different times," you might say, but all of this could have been fixed in 2019, when the Limited Edition was released. Instead, we just have fellow modders changing the design of Benezia and Samara, restoring MShenko (one of the most healthy, respectful, and mature romances in the entire trilogy) and other gay romances in the game, making all NPCs flirt with your character, adding female turians and krogans to the environment, etc., etc.

Still, I think these games are great. The characters, the cinematics, some aspects of the writing, great! I love that canon. But the LGBTQ+ representation in those games sucks. Big time. But that doesn't stop me from having a bunch of headcanons. For the sake of convenience, I'm going to separate out all the characters for the games in which they debut.

Mass Effect:

MaleShep/FemShep: Both are canonically bi. Both don't mind the alien physiology thing and polyamory. Both are "married to your job" type, so they were okay with casual sex and one-night stands, and only mellowed out while in charge of the Normandy crew. Because of convenience, both had more hetero than same-sex hookups.

Ashley: Straight as a plank and xenophobic, but not homophobic. She's definitely into maleShep, but more into the idea of him as a sole survivor/war hero/butcher of Torfan than an actual person.

Garrus: He likes turian and quarian women. And both fem and maleShep. But with maleShep, he's more busy with the whole "flirt him to death" aspect of their bromance, so there's really no time to get on the floor and get dirty.

I also feel that turian society in the game is very patriarchal, so Garrus has a bias towards femShep and feels less restricted by her rank. With mShep, I think he would have only acted if mShep had specifically pursued that relationship. But mShep is also more interested in just flirting with Garrus.

Kaidan: Canonically bisexual (more into women) and demi. Not into aliens, but not xenophobic. Not a stranger to casual sex, but would really prefer to go steady because #introverted and has enough problems already. "How can you flirt with all these people, Shepard, it's exhausting…"

Liara: She's into both versions of Shepard. And maybe a bit into one drell. Classic demi/asexual. Also, imo, all asari are agender and Liara is not an exception.

Tali: Is a mess and can definitely go cross-species (her romance with Garrus is canon, after all). She's also a massive nerd and a bit kinky. I think she's into human/turian/quarian males, but maybe this femShep really is THAT SPECIAL.

Wrex: Krogan women - that's his sexual orientation. Real bros with mShep, more cautious with femShep because bias. Another "married to his job" character.

Joker: Straight and nerdy. #Irony. Too cool for homophobia.

Chakwas: More married to her job than anyone on this list. Cool lesbian aunt.

And this post is already so long that I'll make a separate one for ME2 and 3.

Bo Ruberg: We Know The Devil is, as you say, about women who love other women, yet you've written online about being "against representation" in video games. What does that mean and how do you reconcile those approaches? Aevee Bee: That article was a little manifesto. When I say that I'm "against representation," I mean that representation can't just be a list of identity categories. It's not really representation unless you're creating complexity; without complexity, characters feel insincere and incomplete. The dumbed-down version of a queer person, or the queer person that never expresses their sexuality--these characters don't actually require you to empathize with queer people, because these characters have no sexuality. When you erase that, you erase their anchor, their passion, their frustrations, or their flaws even, especially their flaws. You're not doing empathy work if you're not engaging with these things, because these are the stumbling blocks for empathy. Sometimes people are like, "I like gay people who don't act gay." You know? Those are the people you're catering to when you make those sorts of characters. Identity is so important to talk about, yet it can be so limiting. I've been having a lot of discussions with queer activists and queer scholars about this desire to all call ourselves "queer," like we're this amorphous blob. That can actually be incredibly unhelpful because it doesn't acknowledge the very real differences that often exist between queer people. Our experiences are specific to our lives. Focusing only on identity, especially identity without experience, reduces everyone to an abstraction. Ruberg: Given how much you value the specifics of individual queer experience, how would you describe the complexities, as you call them, of your own queer identity? Bee: Being a woman is really important to me. Transness is also really important to me. In terms of sexuality, I tend to talk about how sexuality is practiced and understood rather than talking about specific attractions. What's the point of trying to say, "Oh, I have this very specific sexual identity" when sexuality is really hard to separate from gender identity and expression? Sexuality is more complicated than we often give it credit for. For example, I'm less interested in saying "I identify as bisexual," than I am in thinking about the ways that I love women and the ways that I love men and how those are unfortunately incredibly different because of all these social pressures, my own histories, and my internalized baggage. How do we navigate that together with another person? What does a relationship with someone like me look like? it's one thing to be like, "We have this list of labels," but we have so few models for what those labels are supposed to look like.

How to Avoid Token Representation

What's the difference between token representation and authentic representation? NaNo Participant Nayantara discusses token representation and how to avoid doing it in your own writing! The smart Asian character. The sassy Black character. The Gay Best Friend.

Too many stories written today that supposedly have “diverse” casts fall prey to “token representation”: a symbolic effort towards inclusion that gives the appearance of equality, without actually exploring diverse narratives.

Recently in the publishing industry, readers have been calling for more representation within their novels, whether it is the LGBTQ+ community, racially and ethnically diverse readers, people with disabilities, or other marginalised groups of people, and many authors have responded with this easy-way-out tokenism — leaving readers unsatisfied and indignant.

So, what exactly is the difference between token diversity and real representation?

Essentially, tokenism includes a character that checks boxes titled “diversity” in face and name, but does not acknowledge their lived experience.

For example, Cho Chang in the Harry Potter series and Lane Kim in Gilmore Girlsare reduced to harmful stereotypes of their characters (both their names and characteristics) without acknowledging the diverse experiences that East Asian people have. Their Asianness becomes their entire character, yet at the same time, that same Asianness is entirely misunderstood.

In contrast, the recent Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once stars East Asian characters whose lives are affected by their race and background. However, they are fully fleshed out characters regardless of it.

As actor, Anna Leong Brophy, said in an interview, she enjoys it when her “Asianness complements a role, but is not the full role.” Real representation acknowledges how someone’s lived experience as a person of colour, queer person, woman, or member of another marginalised community affects their life — but they have genuine feelings, thoughts, and characteristics far beyond simply their race or identity.

The terms “Black dude dies first” and “Bury your gays” are also commonly associated with token representation. Quite self-explanatory, they are tropes in which the cast’s “diverse” characters are killed early, to save the writer from having to explore or acknowledge their experiences.

Not only is this lazy writing that erases diverse narratives, it also creates the subconscious belief that marginalised groups of people have no place in these stories or in commercialised publishing in general. Everyone deserves representation, whether or not the cis-het (cisgender-heterosexual) white reader can relate to the character’s specific cultural experience.

What counts as good representation, then?

Good representation involves any story that includes a diverse cast and follows each of their story lines fully, allowing them to be well-rounded characters that contain depth and get adequate development.

My personal favourite example of this is Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology, where her cast of six main characters includes Black and Brown people, bisexual and gay people, people from different countries and religions, and people recovering from trauma — all of whom have their own, carefully constructed character arcs that acknowledge their identity, but also give them substance and characteristics far beyond that.

However, this is not to say every story has to be as international — The Poppy War trilogy by R.F. Kuang has a solely East Asian coded cast due to its setting. But even within this, her characters are from different ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds, and each have their own, carefully-constructed character arc extending far beyond their identity on paper.

As you begin writing for Camp NaNoWriMo, ask yourself the following three questions:

Is my cast truly representing the diverse types of people who exist in this world (either real or imagined)?

Are each of these characters individuals beyond simply their ethnicity, sexuality, gender, disability, etc?

Do each of these characters have a fully fleshed out character arc?

You don’t have to be an author from a marginalised or minority background to write characters with diverse experiences. Just make sure to approach each character with empathy and respect, and devote adequate time to research (or to world building, if you’re a fantasy author!)

people unfollow me for my misha collins opinions every single time because they perceive it like outing him or harping on about his ‘egg’ or “speculating on his sexuality” rather than a reflection that straight people are also part of the queer community and can joyfully participate. not only do gay parents have and raise straight children who aren’t about to be disowned, that’s the whole point of questioning. to make a gray space to explore in, no expectations and no time limit.

but because we can’t generally imagine that random straight or mostly straight people are full members of the community, we end up creating this pressure to firmly come down on one side or the other. come out of the closet or be straight and acknowledge there never even was one, ‘just’ a door you weren’t positive where it led. as if being non-normative enough that you need to question and investigate these things isn’t quintessentially queer, and as if they’re gonna be immediately booted out of the community and lose the relationships and understanding that allowed them to make sense of themselves if they come to the ‘wrong answer’ (straight).

the inability for our community to conceptualize straight (or mostly straight) people as ‘full members’ also creates identity conflict when your immediate sense of horniness seems to contradict queer identity. like you have to constantly have Significant Attraction to the same sex to ‘count’ and if it drops below a 50/50 your gay card is revoked—at least a 3+ on the kinsey scale to qualify and Be One Of Us. as if questioning doesn’t make you one of us. as if a ‘2’ and low level attraction isn’t ‘gay enough’ or even a singular experience of a same-sex crush or attraction is straight because it doesn’t happen with enough frequency. this is particularly crushing to bi/pansexual people whose attraction to same and different genders can fluctuate over time.

and part of this is because there is no clean line between straight and bisexual or anything else. someone could have had one single crush on their best friend as a teenager and no other same gender attraction for the rest of their lives but still consider themselves bi/pan because that relationship was so meaningful. and someone else with the exact same experience could decide it was a one off and isn’t significant enough to call themselves anything. in reality, there is no difference between them. just their perception of themselves and decision to assign a word to it or not

admittedly I do find his personal revolving door ass relationship to the closet hysterical, but I genuinely profoundly appreciate it for making that grey area so apparent. he’s discussed polyamory and same sex attraction in his book (nonnormativity & exploration), he’s come out of the closet and gone back in multiple times (QUESTIONING), and has seemingly dedicated the rest of his career to highlighting the very real homophobia that prevented dean and cas from a canonical relationship. he is a member of the queer community whether he’s publicly identifying as straight or bi at any given moment. and we can tell because of his actions.

I find it genuinely bizarre that people have turned his personal relationship with the closet into “misha just always wants attention” rather than recognizing real solidarity and community participation amidst a confusing identity journey. it genuinely feels like i’m back in middle school, with my friends bitching at each other that they only came out as bi “for the attention.” which was always and will always be a completely insane assertion. people do not come out of the closet for attention. but it was tied to ideas of bisexuals being “greedy” (greedy for attention, greedy for the attention of more than one gender just for the sake of itself.) and this outright homophobia would consequently force them straight back in the closet. which caused homophobes to feel vindicated and correct in the biphobic assertion that anyone would ever intentionally attract homophobia for attention or seek sexual interaction from genders they don’t feel attraction to. (wanting their attention IS ATTRACTION.)

it genuinely drives me insane that that old homophobic bullshit became the uncritical mass opinion of misha collins. that he did it for attention. he didn’t. he found his people (VERY UNSURPRISINGLY after being thrust into a gay spotlight) and that very spotlight made it almost impossible for him to find his place among them.

anyway i’m fully fucking right. stop saying bisexuality exists “for the attention” 2kforever and if you can’t find joy in queer exploration no matter how messy, keep your trap shut about misha collins.

WHY LUZ’S TITAN-POWERED FORM IS SO GREAT:

So from the very second it appeared on screen I have ADORED Luz’s super form (Which per its obvious anime influence deserves a cool and overly long name like ULTIMATE DARK NEO-PHOENIX TITAN WITCH LUZ) and a big part of that is how unconventional it looks. While most super forms like the classic Super Saiyan become gold or similar bright colors, Luz's colors are dark and she has the aesthetics of a villain. In wondering why they went with this design, I realized it may have a significant link to the themes of The Owl House.

Owl House is at its center a story about people who have differences that would make them social outcasts from society finding love and companionship with each other. Luz is a bisexual ADHD gender non-conforming latina with no friends and bad grades who gets taken in by a criminal who’s essentially disabled. And then the cast of friends they amass also consists largely of more queer, disabled, and neurodivergent people. Whether it was accidental or a deliberate allegory, I think the writers were making a connection between these traits and the themes of Witches and Demons.

I’m not a historical scholar or anything so I could be wrong, but to my understanding the historical witch hunts are believed or even acknowledged to have been an excuse to wipe out societal outcasts, mainly independent women. The writers definitely had this on their mind since the Villain of the series is a man from that time period who’s heavily implied to be motivated by Christianity through his references to “Saving your soul(s)”. In the original pitch for the series Luz was meant to be a dead girl in literal Hell, and though in the actual show it’s called ‘The Demon Realm’ and ‘The Boiling Isles’ aesthetically it very much is Hell. Similarly their God, The Titan, with his horns, wings, and tail is clearly inspired by the Devil, albeit a very furry interpretation. So I think, though they may not have realized they were doing it (For one: Dana has said they didn’t realize they were writing Luz as ADHD until it was pointed out) the TOH staff were associating the very real things that puritanical societies fear and despise (Queerness, neurodivergence, disabilities, other races, and not conforming to gender roles) with the religious and/or fictional concepts they also hated and associated these traits with: Hell, Demons, and Witchcraft.

So when Luz obtains the power of the Titan, she has the powers of the Devil, Hell, and everything it represents. She was already everything a white christian man from the 17th century would hate, and now she looks the part. If Hell is where people like her belong, then Hell can’t be all that bad. In this moment she embodies everything witchcraft represents.

Going through your old tags has made me realize that I wish more people in the fandom would include the development of her gender presentation in their Yang analysis too. So often it gets overlooked but considering the change between her beacon and post beacon outfits and behavior are very noticeably different at this point I think it should be required to at least acknowledge it 😭 (side note very telling the rwde crowd hates butch depictions of yang and post beacon yang in general, if a fictional masculine women scares them that much, they're gonna have a stroke if they ever met a butch lesbian in real life) Sidenote to that sidenote but I think there is something to say that in figuring out her sexuality throughout the series, Yang was also figuring her gender presentation (which ended up being leaning towards masc) which is not farfetched to say considering many queer women often go through this same process (for example high school me id'ed as a cis bisexual women then after college I've started id'ing as a nonbinary butch lesbian) And I know at panel's Barbara has said that Yang, who started the show at 17, has been figuring out many things about herself throughout the series. Sorry for the essay 😅

I don't mind essays when they're this damn good.

And yeah, we've been seeing Yang change and grow and coming into understanding her sexuality and how she feels comfortable presenting (and while I think her Atlas Arc outfit is her absolute best, I wouldn't object to Yang butching it up even more, I doubt Blake would hate it either)

On the topic of RWDE hating the concept of butch Yang, that's right in line with them hating every aspect of her having interests and needs past protecting Ruby.

The characters changing and growing and understanding their needs and desires change over time is something that I think CRWBY has done VERY well.

And I expect Yang to keep changing while holding on to the things that make her special.

1 It might surprise you but I can and do both. I in fact tell a lot of people not to assume a couple is heterosexual or homosexual just because of how they "appear." I can do both lol.

2 If they can get married or not has absolutely nothing to do with my issue as such. I'm really confused why you even bring this up since my focus was on how M/F relationships are treated in queer spaces, and how people always default to straight or gay, instead of just not doing that since queer is more than just "straight" or "gay". Maybe it was because I mentioned not liking the way straight passing/straight passing privilege is used? But that still is a different layer of the issue I have with the term itself and how it's applied in queer spaces to treat non-homo queer identities. I do think the term has its valid uses, but there's a difference between "you can't be queer if you're in a M/F relationship, because even though you're queer that privilege means you shouldn't enter queer (safe) spaces" and "SPP is when you don't need to fear from the Government or bigots for being out with your opposite gender partner." Though that doesn't take into consideration what happens if a M/F couple might not fit the typical cis normative and heteronormative gender roles. A feminine man, and/or a masc woman in a relationship can still experience open queerphobia. A lot of people do not acknowledge that even straight passing privilege isn't as cut and dry and "M/F", but comes also with the need to uphold a certain type of gender conforming role in society. Anyway, I'm objecting to the use specifically of "straight" as a way to other bisexual, and other non-straight relationships and how it's actively used to push M/F couples or M/F presenting relationships out of queer spaces, even when one or both people are queer. This includes relationships with trans, enbies, and other queer identities. Because it happens and it's not rare that even the queer community has tried to erase or push out bisexuals, and other non-monosexual queer identities. 3 My question more along the lines: Why the need to "gender" a relationship to begin with? As in why do you need to label a relationship as straight or gay just by looking at someone? Especially by queer people. Why is it ok to use that "binary" in queer spaces to exclude queer people because they're on the "wrong" side of the binary? A binary, hetero or homo, they don't even belong to? How often do you actually need to label someone else's relationship? We know the gender binary is bullshit, but people in queer spaces still decide to uphold certain binaries in so many aspects, and then judge you based on the binary they uphold, instead of you actual identity. It always seems to be much more acceptable to other and mess around with the identities of bisexuals and pansexuals, or other identities that fall outside the monosexual binary of homo and hetero, or the even the gender binary of male and female presenting.

Add-on: I also see bisexual relationships be labelled gay and it becoming a big thing in queer fandoms to erase their bisexuality, or of course pansexual character, even when one or both characters are bi, and then they get claimed under just the homosexual label, aka "Lesbians" or "Gay." This happened with Korrasami, Bubbline, and recently Lumity, even though each of these relationships has at least 1 bisexual character. I still see fandom wank about these relationships and how people are "erasing" lesbians when they state that the bisexual character is in fact bisexual, or how people label them under the lesbian identity for both. This happens with males as well, but it's more visible with female presenting relationships and characters. And obviously on the other end, when queer characters get labelled as straight, and then suddenly their actual queer sexuality doesn't count and they get treated as bad rep, or as not-valid because they aren't performing queerness on the right side of the monosexual binary. An example from recent times was Owl Houses HunterxWillow, where even though Hunter is bi and Willow is said to be pan, people disregarded their queerness because it was an implied M/F relationship sp people started wank about it being a "straight relationship" and doesn't count. Obviously there are more instances, but Owl house is more recent in my memory and this is long enough.

Ps: I don't care what you label your own relationship. I'm speaking in general terms, and I do not decide or speak for each individual bisexual, or pansexual or w/e. I'm speaking on my observations on how the label "straight" has been used to treat bisexuals and pansexuals as less valid or even completely erase their identity the moment they enter a M/F presenting relationship.

Pps: The first post was just a tired vent, and more of a throwaway thing. Not sure what this is, but I'll try avoid the energy drinks for now.

My reactions, thoughts, and predictions that I had while reading Percy Jackson: The Titan's Curse. At least the ones I bothered to write down. Spoilers below the cut. Also, fair warning, this one is way longer than either of my previous reaction posts. I had a lot of thoughts.

Apollo being an obnoxious kind-of hippy going through an anime phase is the greatest idea anyone has ever had. He's so stupid, I love him.

Apollo's comment about pretty girls turning into plants reminded me of the myth about the time where one of his boyfriends turned into a flower after he died. Hyacinthus. Because we cannot forget that Apollo is canonically bisexual. If Rick Riordan doesn't (at some point) acknowledge how gay ancient Greek mythology is, I'm going to riot.

Dating must be really weird at Camp Half-Blood. And between demi-gods in general, right? Because, technically speaking, they're all kind of related to each other. I guess it just works differently since the gods aren't human, so there's not the same case to be made about genetics and the potential for incest. Or maybe that only applies to kids who have the same god parent. Like how Percy sees Tyson as his brother. I’m wondering if the kids from other cabins feel the same way. Like, do kids from different cabins consider themselves siblings? Does Annabeth see the other kids from Athena’s cabin as her siblings? What does the dating scene even look like at Camp Half-Blood? Is it considered scandalous to date other members of your own cabin? Or do some people think it’s taboo or whatever to date other demigods in general? I don’t need sleep, I need answers!

Ohhh. Okay. So apparently Thalia has aged while she was in the tree, just very slowly. So if Percy is 14 and Thalia can pass as an 8th grader like him, and she should be somewhere between 12 and 19, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say she's about 15 or 16.

Aww, poor Thalia. Lol. I was the exact same way when I drove for the first time. Literally had a panic attack on the spot, and I wasn't even controlling the Earth's temperature.

Yay, Tyson! I was worried we wouldn’t see him again until, like, the last book or something.

Aww, it’s so sweet that Tyson wants to see Annabeth. And it’s adorable how cool he thinks she is.

Wow, Luke really is an unbelievable bastard. Annabeth is smart, she was smart to question him, but when the rocks started to fall, her instincts drove her to protect Luke, because even though he’s an unbelievable bastard, Annabeth still can’t help but harbor positive feelings for her. For the longest time, he was family to her and she loved him, so of course those feelings are still there, even if she knows it’s illogical.

Wait. Annabeth is holding up the ceiling of a cave, which Percy acknowledges that she shouldn’t be able to do. So… is the cave ceiling actually the sky? Like how, in Greek mythology, the sky is held up by the titan Atlas? In the mythology, Heracles trades places with Atlas holding up the sky while Atlas helps Heracles complete one of his twelve labors, and when Atlas is about to leave, Heracles tricks Atlas into taking back the sky before bolting. Like how Luke tricked Annabeth into holding up the cave ceiling before leaving her alone to hold it by herself.

Okay, Grover, chill out with the stalking, bud.

I guess Grover and Annabeth take turns getting damsel-ed. Last book was Grover’s turn and this book is Annabeth’s turn.

Don’t worry, Percy, I forgot about that scarf too.

Okay, not liking how the Hunters are portrayed. Because when Artemis says to give up love, she only means romantic love, which is clearly not the only kind of love. Greek mythology practically invented the concept of differentiating and identifying different kinds of love. The Hunters should know that, but the way they act towards the other campers is really… I dunno, gross? They act like their way of life is the only way that matters, which is super fucked up coming from the people that follow Artemis.

“I wondered if there was any way I’d looked that ridiculous when I’d first arrived.” Percy, that was literally only two years ago, get off your high fucking horse. XD

Thalia static-shocking people when she’s annoyed is golden and I love her.

Oh, we love the prophecies… Yayyyy.

Okay, guessing time. Artemis is chained to a rock, which immediately made me think of Prometheus, the titan that gifted fire to humanity and was punished by Zeus to be chained to a rock and have an eagle eat his liver every day for eternity. But then the Oracle mentioned that one must withstand “The Titan’s Curse,” which could be another reference to Prometheus, but I don’t think so. Because in the myth, Heracles killed the eagle and freed Prometheus from his punishment, so I’m pretty sure it’s not that, but you never know. Then I remembered Annabeth and my prediction that she’s currently holding up the sky like the titan Atlas, and the Oracle said that “one must withstand.” Admittedly, my knowledge of Atlas and his mythos is shaky at best, and I don't remember him ever having a "curse", but I guess holding up the entire sky is about as "cursed" as it's possible to be. And the Oracle saying that “one must withstand” makes me think that something happened to Atlas, so now someone needs to hold the sky in his place or else the sky will collapse to the earth and the world will end, or something like that. So that’s my prediction, that someone will need to hold up the sky in Atlas’s place for the rest of, well, forever. I don’t have a guess as to who it could be, though.

Also, someone is apparently going to die. And be killed by their god parent. Awesome… Super looking forward to that inevitable heartbreak… I hope it’s not either of the di Angelo kids, but they’re both new characters, and I know Nico becomes more important later (purely by accident and through pop culture osmosis), and since I had no idea that Biance even existed until I started reading this book, I am terrified that that means Bianca is going to die. I pray that I am wrong.

I love that the Stoll brothers are basically Greek Fred and George Weasley.

Wow, Zoë’s kind of a bitch. She won’t travel with Percy because he’s a boy, and apparently Grover doesn’t count as a boy because he’s a satyr. Super fucked up.

You know, Artemis did have male Hunters. It didn’t happen often in the mythology, but there was a pretty famous male Hunter of Artemis named Hippolytus. The thing about Artemis’s Hunters isn’t that men weren’t allowed to be Hunters, it’s just that men typically didn’t choose to be Hunters, because one of the reasons why Artemis’s Hunters joined her in the first place is because Artemis protected the women in her care from the sexist constraints placed on them by Greek society at the time. The reason why men didn’t typically become Hunters is because they didn’t need the same kind of protection and escape from Greek society that women did. And Artemis didn’t hate men on principal, she hated the fact that men were the ones who used their positions of power to discriminate against and abuse the women in their society.

Aww. Grover’s such a sweetheart.

Would the real Dr McKay please stand up?

While this is a record of John Sheppard's bisexuality, let's start from the beginning.

Rodney McKay was introduced in the main series, Stargate SG-1. In it, he is presented as a sexist and abrasive character who is later revealed to harbour a hurt little boy within. He claims to have a predilection for "dumb blondes", which is to say, beautiful and brilliant women way out of his league.

He aggressively, blatantly hits on Samantha Carter. In fact, his behaviour is so over-the-top that one has to wonder whether it is (consciously or subconsciously) designed for failure. Hitting on women you know will turn you down, in a way that will inevitably lead to them turning you down, both protects one's ego and keeps one from winding up in an actual relationship with an actual human being.

That is, for reasons of inadequacy, poor self-esteem, repressed homosexuality, pick your poison, he a) approaches only women he knows he can't get, b) approaches them in a sleazy over-the-top way that will inevitably lead to him being turned down and c) he does all of this extremely publicly, not hiding and in fact encouraging his reputation was a womanizer. A+, very heterosexual.

Only, this is lampshaded in the two-part 8th season finale of SG-1, Moebius.

In the episode we are once more presented with an alternative reality. This is a divergence from our reality whose main difference is that the stargate was never found at Giza. In the episode, we follow Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson who are essentially themselves but whose lives took different courses. That is, their characters were not changed, only their circumstances. And it follows that the same is true for all the other characters.

In this reality, Dr. Rodney McKay is the lead scientist at Cheyenne Mountain. The fact that he is similar to the Rodney in our reality is lampshaded later in the second part of the episode where McKay tells Gen. Hammond: "It's a ship that goes through the Gate -- it's a Gateship!"

This parallels his words in Rising (S01E01) where he says the same thing to Dr. Weir, defending his naming of the shuttle as Gateship: "It's a ship; it goes through the Gate, I, I… Fine -- Puddle Jumper, you are clear for launch."

We are meant to understand that this is the same Rodney, only that circumstances have altered the course of his life.

Why is this important?

His introduction in the episode is curious.

At the end of Moebius, we are shown a rare kiss between Carter and O'Neill who never get to consummate their unresolved sexual tension in the main text of the show. The kiss was preceded by Carter lying to O'Neill about his attraction to Daniel Jackson instead of O'Neill. Earlier on, O'Neill had wondered whether Carter and Jackson were in fact a couple -- which they both vehemently denied. Before their kiss, O'Neill tells Carter: "It's just, you know… first impressions, I kinda thought he was… Never mind."

He waves his hand in the universal sign for "bent".

Jack O'Neill thought that Daniel Jackson was, upon first impression, a gay man. Even though he met him along with an attractive woman, the first impression one got from Daniel Jackson was that he was a gay man. This has nothing to do with what Daniel's orientation is or was, in this reality or the other, just that in this one he gave off the vibe that he was gay. At least on initial meeting, an impression that might later be rectified, Daniel Jackson came off as a gay man.

So why does this matter?

When we first meet Dr. Rodney McKay, it is also the first time he meets Daniel Jackson. He gets, that is, a first impression of Daniel. Rodney barges in with the very suggestive: "Don't touch anything, please! Leave the touching to the experts."

McKay looks at Daniel from top to bottom, openly checking him out, gaze lingering on Daniel's dick. After this, he looks at Major Davis. To confirm the reading of his gaydar? To check whether the major noticed him checking the guy out? Acknowledging the hot officer in his personal space? Who can tell!

Turning his attention to Sam, McKay subsequently completely ignores Jackson to the point of rudeness.

Note that Major Davis is, in this reality, sporting the gayest moustache that ever moustached. He is ripped straight out of a Village People album cover. If we are meant to think that Daniel in this reality comes across as gay, what are we supposed to think regarding the man with the gayest moustache this side of Tom of Finland?

After McKay checks out Daniel, whose first impression is that he is a gay man, Rodney quickly glances at major Davis and then his entire demeanor changes. He is very curt towards the major. They continue their exchange, Rodney antagonistic toward Jackson and now aggressively hitting on Sam, even going so far as to obviously and crassly grab her ass:

McKay: I'm sorry -- what are your areas of expertise? Carter: Astrophysics. Jackson: Archaeology. McKay: And I would listen to you because…? Carter: We're on the tape. McKay: Now you -- you I would listen to if you were reading the phone book. You see, I love this whole sexy librarian thing. Look, why don't I take you to lunch, get you up to speed.

On his initial meeting with Daniel Jackson, the man who comes off as gay, Dr. Rodney McKay reflexively checks him out and then starts immediately performing the most odious kind of heteronormative masculinity

We get another lampshade in his line to Carter: "I hear it's lemon chicken today -- it's my favourite, hmm?" This Rodney claims openly to like Lemon chicken which he is allergic to in our reality. There is something else he is performing here that he is allergic to in our reality: his preference for chicks.

In the Pegasus galaxy, McKay is either completely oblivious to the advances of women ("You don't know what to do?"), engages in performative over-the-top womanizing ("I disgust myself sometimes"), or uses women to perform masculinity and to make himself seem more desirable to other men ("They think I'm a shut-in. So I was thinking that if I was to, say, show up with a woman -- a beautiful woman -- that they would maybe not think that I was like, a complete loser"). He expresses jealousy when other men receive attention from beautiful women while seeming to have no interest whatsoever in these women themselves. Hot women are objects to him, he barely sees them as people (literally, in The Game).

This is textbook. This is a closet so deep in Narnia the audience gets second-hand frost bite.

Note that while in Moebius we are shown a superficial difference between this Rodney and our Rodney with regards to lemon, later on we are shown that they are essentially the same. The Rodney McKay of this reality is the epitome of a closeted gay man performing over-the-top heterosexuality in a military environment where, although as a Canadian civilian contractor he is not himself in jeopardy, he has to protect the identities of gay soldiers, like major Davis, whose careers are on the line.

Oblivious or not, Rodney McKay does not like women. He does not respect them, sees little use for them, can barely tolerate to have them around. This much seems to be true of him in every reality.

As a black, stone femme lesbian, I can’t speak to the experience of being a butch but I can say that I don’t think your actions or references are quite as dangerous or damaging as the anon made them out to be.

It’s true that many lesbians, bisexuals, pansexual etc don’t quite know how to treat butches at times and have been very cruel to them in the past, but I do think that the anon came less from a place of correction than a place of unaddressed pain and fear.

I also think that there truly is a distinction between the us American idea of feminine masculinity vs a nonamerican version. That is neither good nor bad, it simply is. Different cultures associate different traits with femininity. To refuse to acknowledge the differences is to ignore a fascinating and vast array of gender expressions that are unique to various cultures all around the world.

With that in mind, I don’t think it wise to gatekeep the idea of femme vs masc to just being within a lesbian space since bisexuality and pansexuality have plenty of space for non-normative gender expression within them. A more butch-presenting female-identifying person could very well have attraction to both mascs and femmes, but that doesn’t make them less Bi. This gatekeeping also keeps up the tradition of Bi-erasure and unblurs the non-binary line in all of this.

I think this anon has been hurt very badly by a lot of people and deserves all the kindness and understanding in the world, but I don’t think that your words were particularly damaging in and of themselves.

Then again, I am not a butch, so please take my views with a MASSIVE grain of salt.

and yes even though the concepts of feminity/masculinity withing the queer community do have similarities mainly bc colonization we have to acknowledge that terms, concepts and perceptions can also be really different in some aspects when it comes to non white/western cultures and i hope i explained myself well in that sense

still i hope none else feels that offended/hurt by my words because i just want to find a community and make everyone feel as safe and welcome as i’ve felt thanks to others.

This pride month, shout out to people like my mom, who, when gay marriage was much more in public debate when I was young, didn't necessarily believe gay marriage was God-ordained, but that the government shouldn't have a say in that. "What the government does does nothing to the sanctity of our beliefs. Separation of church and state"

Shout out to people like my dad, who don't understand the queer community, but acknowledge that he also doesn't want to take the position of telling someone else how to live, so just keeps it to himself. (I know he doesn't understand my bisexuality, but he assured me that all he wants is for me to be happy, healthy, and safe. So long as I've got that, he lets me live how I want)

Shout out to my Christian peers that I came out to. The boy in the praise band that said "I'm not sure where I fall on the scriptures, but I know that your journey is yours and you should be able to live your life." The Catholic friend that saw no difference between lusting after someone of the opposite or same gender, and praised my strength in the face of more struggles that came with my sexuality.

Every person that I knew from our Bible Belt town that didn't know the first thing about being a #Ally🌈, but didn't have to in order to treat their fellow humans with dignity. That when others were (and are) fear-mongering about how we needed to fight those depraved sinners, said "no, they're just people. What they do isn't hurting us or keeping us from practicing our beliefs. Leave them alone."

Shout out to the people that even amidst being in homophobic environments and communities and holding some possibly homophobic beliefs themselves, know how to live and let live, know that there's a line they won't cross and won't let people in their lives cross.

Before I even knew I could be Christian *and* queer, before I knew of the existence of affirming churches, y'all gave me the room to be. Y'all made space for me and showed me the love of Christ. Thank you.

you are born to be the final piece of the puzzle, or that is the assumption. in reality, however, as bitter as the truth was to swallow -- you spent the next eighteen years being blamed for the broken pieces. when you are not the target -- you are the white flag waving between the two of them not just to get them to stop fighting, but to pay the electric bill. school is an escape for you and you try, of course you try, but your efforts more often than not lead you to falling in the middle of the pack. you have little room to know what you're going to do with your life, but the only thing you know is that you want out. out of this place where all hope goes to die.

your parents finally stop attempting to nurture their dying relationship shortly after you turn fourteen and while you have dreamed of this moment since before you could verbalize your emotions, it leaves very little room for relief. you stay with your mother in your childhood home, one that a waitress' salary could only pay so much of. thus, your childhood ends the very moment you turn sixteen -- already exposed to the harsh reality of one thing and one thing only: this world only loves those that can pay for its favor.

you finish high school, but have been working yourself like a dog. burnout has crept in by now, but survival waits for no one. turning to stripping was never in the plan -- but neither was staying in willows edge in the first place. you've just approached a decade on the pole, something you quietly celebrated in silence.

your mother's cancer diagnosis comes like a slap to the face, perhaps the biggest reason being that your father clearly doesn't care. with very little to her name and no health insurance to speak of, it is you who has to fight to keep her alive -- even if you wonder if she would have ever done the same for you. at least she dies peacefully, no longer in pain as you're holding her hand.

you throw yourself into work even more so than usual, sorting through your mother's little affairs in your off time. you spend your working hours becoming a fantasy, and become completely well-versed with the language. you are a siren -- something that they can look at but cannot touch. life has hardened you enough where overtime, you begin to take this image of yourself into everyday life. while the left side of your bed is never cold, it comes from different heat sources. you have begun to stand away from the rest of the crowd, the ice queen reigning from her throne.

you meet toby willow after after one of the first ( ? ) times aspen and toby finally called it quits. he appears like every other mark, another wallet to drain. he initially pays for your time -- and you soon realize that the two of you went to high school together ( you spent very little time acknowledging anyone in high school, as you were more there by obligation ). what was once another customer became a multiple year long booty call, one you can't seem to muster a little self-respect to ignore.

while you once dreamed of escaping willow's edge, you find yourself in the same complex you grew up again in a different unit -- still living paycheck to paycheck. but this time, you're all alone.

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒.

adores fashion, but has no means for affording luxury. it's all about the performance of it all. most of her clothing comes from thrift stores and while she appears to be dripping in jewels when she's dancing at the club -- she's often seen in a uniform of baggy jeans and a t-shirt when she's amongst the "real world."

is a bit unsure what to do with herself when she isn't at the club. she finds herself wandering a bit aimlessly through life -- ending up more often than not either at the sunrise diner indulging in a cup of coffee and an omlet or at nite life ( the irony of it being another club she finds solace in is certainly not lost on her ), dancing the night away.

the harder shell she wears is occasionally a bit much, but comes from a need for protection. when no one else took care of her, she took care of herself.

Unpopular Opinion: Yes, a woman can be radfem and have a male partner.

(premise 1) The radfem community should try to recruit as many women as possible to the movement. It is crucial in the fight for women’s rights that women in large numbers see the light and refuse to back down.

(premise 2) Some women, nay the majority of women, are straight or bisexual.

(premise 3) Sexual orientation is innate and immutable. Straight women are born straight and cannot become gay. Bi women are born bi and cannot become gay or straight. Further, not everyone, radfem or no, has the desire or ability to remain celibate and single, to live their lives without romantic and sexual love.

(premise 4) Straight women and many bi women, told that they cannot date men and be radfem, will tend to turn away from the movement. They will see it as too difficult to give up romantic and sexual relationships with men for the movement. They will fall back on liberal feminism even if they don’t agree with it, as the only option.

(conclusion) Promoting the idea that radical feminists cannot sleep with, date, or marry men only drives women away from the radfem movement, and therefore that idea should not be promoted in radfem spaces. Rather, radical feminism should provide straight women with the resources to avoid, as far as possible, being a slave to misogyny- even with a male partner.

Caveats and clarifications:

- The goal of any radical feminist who chooses to date men should be to have zero tolerance for misogyny or lack of respect for women in her male partner. She should refuse to tolerate misogynistic actions, including but not limited to the following: Watching pornography, making sexist comments towards her or any woman, refusing to prioritize her pleasure during sex, violating physical/sexual consent, shaming her period, refusing to acknowledge the struggles of women, or trying to control her dress and appearance such as makeup, shaving, etc. Dating men as a feminist is about thoroughly vetting and refusing to take less than total respect.

- Men cannot be feminists. Radical feminism is for women only. It is by women, for women, and about women first. Men can, however, be “feminist allies” in the sense that they uphold feminist principles, but they must not speak over women and must be willing to be educated by women.

- From a personal perspective I fully admit to being a radfem bisexual woman dating a man. A straight man at that. I know I know. I’m not going to sit here and say “hE’s dIfFeReNt” - my partner, despite passing all my tests, checking the boxes, and showing every sign of being a feminist ally, is still a man. Men are always just…men and he’s not a magical exception. Nor do I aim to praise him for the bare minimum. But I chose to date him because I wanted to, and I am happy in my relationship. I don’t feel any conflict between my radfem beliefs and my relationship.

- Bisexual women should not be forced to “choose to be lesbian” for the movement. That’s biphobic, full stop. Their attraction to men as well as to women should be acknowledged and supported. And judging bi women for dating men is the same as judging straight women for dating men.

- Female separatism is still important. At its core separatism means “prioritize women in your life” , not “cut off every single male in your life”. In a relationship with a man, a woman can still: Build mostly female friendships, only go to female doctors and medical practitioners, try to build working relationships with mostly female bosses/supervisors/coworkers/professors/classmates, consume media by women, support female-owned businesses, etc.

- There is no middle ground between traditional gender roles and radical feminism. A radfem in a het relationship should aim to break gender roles. Holding a job and keeping separate bank accounts, not taking her husband’s last name, refusing to take the bulk of responsibility for household/childcare, etc.
