Full-color couple YCH commission for @/cinnstuff of her two Witcher ladies 💙 I did a lot more rendering than the initial plan BUT this came out lovely so I can’t complain, and I’m really proud of the simple lil snowy background I did for the two 🥺

Warnings: yandere, just a little bit of harassment and obsession.
Note: English is not my native language, so I apologize if there are errors in the text qq
I'm upset that so little attention is being paid to this boy. He's very cute and sweet, but i thought… what if he was yandere?
Tumblr media
It's no secret that Luka always gives his best in the ring, but if his gaze catches a certain figure in the crowd, his desire to show off increases tenfold. Your presence always makes the fire in his chest burn even brighter, and the need to hear praise from you eats him up until the moment when Luka gets what he wants. He's annoying, clingy, like a kid asking you after a show if he was good enough.
Luka is not stupid and notices that you are only interested in him as a friend, which certainly breaks his heart. Even when he recklessly decides to confess his feelings, receiving a gentle refusal, his desire to make you fall in love with himself doesn't fade for a second. Feelings are so changeable, and he definitely should always be there for you to quickly understand that he is exactly the one you need.
Of course, it also means that his presence in your life becomes even more suffocating after rejection.
From the outside, these short touches of Luke to your shoulder and waist may seem appropriate within the framework of your friendship and his flighty nature, but you know perfectly well that he puts a completely different meaning into them. No matter how much you try to explain to him that nothing can happen between you and him, nothing can break Luke's tenacity.
Small gifts on occasions and without, awkward invitations to dates that you always reject, jokingly cute SMS — this is only a small fraction of what can bother you.
Even when people close to Luka tell him that his feelings are unrequited, he only laughs it off, but more and more irritation accumulates in his chest. No matter how much Luka values his friends, who are they to draw conclusions about your relationship? They don't know how strong his feelings are, they don't know what it's like to wake up every morning without you and what it's like to see your eyes dim more and more when looking at him, but they also don't realize that this will change soon. His feelings for you are not something he wants to share with others.
If Luka sees you with another man, he will not stand aside, unceremoniously bursting into your conversation and casually putting his arm around your waist. For an intelligent man, this should be enough to realize who you belong to.
No… Of course you don't belong. You will belong. He will definitely do everything possible for this.
When even that's not enough, Luka will consider it a good move to show you how good he can be as your future husband. Of course, you've heard about his warm relationship with the children of the Underworld, but if you see it with your own eyes, your heart will thaw, right? Oh, you should definitely imagine what kind of father he could be to your children. But for some reason, these thoughts did not even visit your head.
In your eyes, Luka will always be a reliable friend, whom you can always rely on, but the heart will never be touched by the feelings that he expects from you.
On the contrary, his persistence makes you avoid Luka. You have become less likely to appear at his fights, less likely to respond to his SMS and less likely to meet his eyes in your rare meetings. Why is it that all his attempts to show you how good he is do not bear any fruit? Why didn't all the manifestations of his love make you feel the same way he feels?
Luka really doesn't understand.
He's willing to do anything for you. Fate was so cruel to him, but he overcame all the trials of this harsh world, finally finding his place next to you. And he's not ready to give it to anyone else.
Therefore, one day all his pathetic attempts to attract your attention and your cruel refusals to notice him lead you to the fact that he can no longer restrain himself. Having kissed you one evening, when you still decided to accept his hundredth invitation to walk together, Luka himself does not understand what prompted him to such a reckless act, but he is still happy to feel the softness of your lips on his. Ah, it's really addictive, and he can't tear himself away from that sweet kiss, even when you try to push him away, trapped in a cage between the guy's body and the wall, until he gets enough of the taste of your tender lips.
Why don't you want to listen to him again when Luka is so sincerely apologizing, grabbing your wrist while you're trying to escape? You're so cruel, but he still loves you and will love you until he takes his last breath. Even if you run away from him to another galaxy, Luka is sure that his heart will always find a way to yours.
You have been connected ever since he first looked into your eyes, and this connection cannot be broken by any force of this world or any others. You feel it too, he is convinced of it, but you are not ready to accept that you are meant for each other yet.
And Luka will wait patiently. He hopes that you will still forgive his impulsive actions. Understand that you are too desirable, too beautiful so much that the poor guy can barely restrain himself from taking you to himself at the next meeting, but he can't do this to you, so he will continue his struggle for your love.
Luka will fight until he hears three cherished words falling from your sweet lips, on which he will imprint a kiss in which you will no longer push him away, and this will be the hardest, but truly spectacular fight in his entire career.

VOCALOID RECOMMENDATIONS MASTER POST
I've been collecting all your vocaloid recommendations in one place, so everyone can take a listen!
And if like me you knew nothing about vocaloid before that nuclear discourse, maybe you'll find a hidden gem you wouldn't have found otherwise! <3
Submitted anonymously
Thought I'd add to the Vocaloid discourse by pointing out that several "irl" bands actually started out by using vocaloids. You can find a few who talk about it in the Hatsune Miku live concerts (super cool use of holo developed for those too!). That's really the crux of what sets vocaloid apart from much of the machine discourse; it's CREATED oppourtunities for small musicians instead of taking it away. Specifically by not just supplying a synthetic voice program to work with, but by tying a star identity to each voicebank that makes people more willing to explore obscure artist music. It also distincts the works made by the vb's from the artists who were paid to voice them, so you can't make them say things that sounds like you're putting bad takes in the original artist's mouth. Everyone knows and understands it's a fake version for the purpose of artistic creativity, not an attempt to steal the voice of the original singer.
Anyway since we're doing Vocaloid recommends now:
Giga - BRING IT ON (Inferiority superiority) ft. Kagamine Rin & Len
"Hop! Step! Instant Death! A Happiness Dance Death-Trap" and "The Path to Eternal Happiness...I Found It" both by Utata-P
Entomologists, Appetite of a people pleaser and Rotary Dial by GHOST
VIRAL ft. Meika Hime and Melancolia ft. GUMI by QueenPb
(note - Melancolia contains flashing images right from the start)
And last but not least, my personal Vocaloid feels song, TELL YOUR WORLD by kz, who sums up some of the beauty of the Vocaloid fandom pretty well
Submitted anonymously
Ok, I know the blog was kinda overflown of vocaloid discurse asks. So instead of discussing I brought RECOMMENDATIONS❗
Because, like, Defoko is pretty known in the Utau world, but she may be one of the worst examples of "human-like voice".
So to bring some counter examples of voicebanks that do not have much of a robotic vibe, I have here:
Some utuaus
【Namine Ritsu】-ERROR 2018ver.【UTAU Cover】
【Sukone Tei】Love Me, Love Me, Love Me (Music box ver.) 【UTAUカバー】
Some not so known vocaloids
[Aoki Lapis] Circus Monster [VOCALOID]
[Mayu] VOCALOID 3 ~Kodoku no Bannin~ Guard of Loneliness
【Galaco】 The Beast. 【Vocaloid3 Cover】
【MEIKA Mikoto】 Cantarella 【カバー】
And some slow songs, that require whisper-like tuning <3
【24 VOCALOIDS CHORUS】 Hirari, Hirari ひらり、ひらり 【HD】
Kamui Gakupo A Doll's Voice
Submitted by @indigo-flightly-falls
Oh!!!
If we're doing vocaloid recs, I'm here to suggest A Crow's Trial!
Vane - A Crow's Trial (ft. Dex & Gumi Eng.)【Vocaloid Original】
it's one of my favorites and has some Vibes. It's a bit hard to understand the story but the last verse lives in my head rent free :D

speaking about the vocaloid debate- they haven't submitted the playlist yet, but if they listened to English songs using Japanese/Chinese/other voicebanks then it'll inherently sound a little off. different languages and different voicebanks have different pronunciations needed for speech, and are thus recorded for the voicebank. use a Japanese voicebank for an English song and you won't get the right words pronounced right, or you'll get an accent, etc etc.
also some vocaloids only have one or two voicebanks and that's it. Big Al only has one (i might be wrong on that, but i know his is for V2 software), whereas Hatsune Miku has every single voicebank made over the years (V1-V5) and has versions made to sing in Japanese, Chinese, and English. she has so, so much more variety than other vocaloids and can be more fluent and clear compared to lesser known vocaloids.
and since we're sharing favorite vocaloid songs to convert the submitter, here's two of mine because i have too many favorites to share:
Carnivore - OrgansDotOrg
this one has Big Al as supporting vocals and it absolutely slaps, also OrgansDotOrg is my-all time favorite artist pleaseee go support them!!!
Seraphim on the Ring - Mitchie M
seriously, if you're looking for realistic vocaloid vocals then go listen to Mitchie-M!! Katio and Len just speaking in this one sound just like real people
Fools are attracted to anomaly - Utsu-P
vocaloid is not all pop and 'kawaii', vocaloid metal is some of my favorite to listen to
some other producers i also like:
tart
Ferry
Riproducer
PinocchioP
Kikuo
SweetSoSweet
KakyuuKei
KaitsukoP

really funny hearing the take about how vocaloids/voice synths can't have singing styles when there's multiple voice synths explicitly modelled after particular styles. prima (opera), sachiko (enka), and maiko hakaine (screamo metal) are just the ones i can list off the top of my head. and even if a voice synth isn't modelled after a singing style, they can still be tuned that way!
anyway, for song recommendations! gothic and loneliness is breathtaking (it's also a nightmare in project diva lol)
Gothic and Loneliness [Kagamine Rin] - Narushima Takashi
Submitted anonymously
oh wait can we still send in vocaloid recommendations? if so…
• koisuru beam by kyaami/cillia : this song is so cute and rin’s tuning here is some of the best i’ve heard
•jitterbug by hachiya nanashi - goes hard as hell and i adore the mv the song has
•lost and found by sasakure.uk - i only recently heard of it (idk how i only just found it) and it’s mesmerising i love it
uhh i can’t think of anymore right now but uhh i hope that if u hear these u will like them

Nude Rakell ref bc I needed to practice a new body hair style
Tumblr media
Plus a front-ref for his markings and scars! Wahoo! Also just. Generally wanted to draw one of my hottest character designs. I love this guy so much. Built like a fridge.
Full pic here (well, sorta, you’re not gonna see what’s behind the big censor, but artistic nudity is shown for the other censor block), not sexual — X
This took. A very long time to do lol. Body hair was a pain in the ass to figure out. I wasn’t very happy with my older style as the brush I was for body hair using just made things look dirty as opposed to hairy, imo. Plus, I wanted to have a process that had my hand more involved. After a LOT of trial and error, I finally figured it out. The process will take… a very long time. But I’m getting to a point in my creativity process that I don’t feel a strong need to get things done super quickly. In fact, I want to deliberately take more time on my art. Stuff like this—placing individual body hairs—is part of that process! Hopefully the work paid off, and will continue to ,:]

18th birthday
Pairing: Eddie munson x reader
Mentions: character death, a little mourning, happy ending though!
Imagine you finding out your pregnant after eddie had died in the upside down
Tumblr media
When you found out you were pregnant after Eddie had perished in the upside down you were besides yourself you contemplated a lot of things, but ultimately decided to keep the little one when uncle Wayne said he’d take the both of you in after your parents had kicked you out.
After that it was years of trial and error and constantly telling your son about what a brave and great man his father was anytime he had asked about him. You worked three jobs to try to save up enough to get an apartment for you and Ozzy. Thankfully steve was always by yours side to take care of Ozzy when the shifts would run long or you got suddenly called into work, it all paid off in the end though when you were able to get a nice two room apartment just outside of Hawkins.
Years flew by it seemed, Ozzy grew more and more to resemble his father with his long brown hair and tendency to get himself in trouble with his active imagination, there was only a few differences between them really like Ozzy had to wear glasses something he inherited from you and though he decided to grow his hair out long he shaved the sides to give himself a more punk look. You supported him no matter what.
You had been decorating for his 18th birthday with the help of Steve and the kids who were now grown into fine young adults, you couldn’t help but pinch their cheeks like you did when they were little, must be the mom in you that couldn’t resist.
You hung up a huge banner that said happy 18th Ozzy, you stand back suddenly overcome with a small sadness that Eddie wouldn’t get to see his little boy become a man, you caress the guitar pick around your neck the same one he slipped on you the day you lost him.
“Ozzy is coming!!” Dustin shouted from the window snapping you out of your trip down memory lane, everyone hid in their designated spots as the sound of jingling keys could be heard unlocking the door and in walked Ozzy who looked tired from school.
“SURPRISE” you all jump out and scream Steve shooting off some of those confetti poppers as you hug your son who had grown taller than you “happy birthday baby boy” you smile up at him pinching his cheeks before leaving a loud squeaky kiss on his forehead “mommmmm I’m not a baby anymore cmon” he whined half heartedly but smiled none the less before turning to everyone “thank you uncle Dustin, thank you uncle Steve this looks kick ass” he looked around beaming with joy at the homemade cake on the table and a big box leaning against the wall that said don’t open till your 18th on it.
“Don’t thank us thank your mom she just dragged us here to do all the hard work” Dustin jokes patting Ozzy on the back. Your son turns to you hugging you tight “thanks momma your the best” you rub his back feeling over come with emotion “anything for your sweetheart” you pull away and usher him towards the table.
You light his candles smiling as Steve turns off the light and all of you sing happy birthday to him. “Make a wish sweetheart” you squeeze your sons shoulder gently sending him a soft loving smile already knowing what he’s gonna wish for “I wish I could meet dad just one time” he whispers softly to himself blowing out the candles.
You take a deep shaky breath but smile none the less as you turn away “now I know I can’t bring back your dad no matter how much witchcraft I try” you joke lightening the suddenly somber mood “but I’ve been saving this ever since you were born it was your dads when he was in a band and now it’s yours Oz” you gently lay down the large box on the table after moving the cake.
Ozzy looked at you then back at the box feeling a thrum of excitement having seen that box hidden in your closet for years. He rips open the wrapping paper and opens the box to reveal Eddie’s prize guitar, and immediately tears well up in his eyes as he looks up at you. “Mom I- but-“ he begins voice watery “it’s yours sweetheart” you whisper reassuringly kissing the top of his head.
When he picked it up and immediately started playing you smiled knowing that if Eddie was here right now he’d be proud of the young man your son had become.

I keep seeing hopeful things about the revival of web serial writing after Dracula Daily took off and I really, really, really want to be on board with these. I mean, I wrote a thesis about this exact subject in 2013. I love serial writing. I REALLY DO. I actively chose to write my main story as a serial and not in a more "traditional" manner.
But you see, the problem is this: The sharks are already in the water, and the web serial industry has become toxic. If it ever wasn't.
I don't mean people using Substack or individuals at all. What I mean is that it's an entire industry already that, in the past several years, has kind of gone from bad to worst.
There is a general idea that web serial writing isn't as good as traditional publishing. Yeah, there's so much of it out there. There are a lot of people getting their start writing this way. But that doesn't mean that's the only people out here, even if there are a LOT of them.
However, it does mean there are a lot of hopeful writers just ripe to be taken advantage of.
The problem in the last few years has actually come from media conglomerates snapping up platforms left and right. Many of these are coming out of overseas markets, because web serials are HUGE there and have already proven to be profitable. Naver, which owns WEBTOON, also now owns Wattpad [link] Kakao acquired three platforms in the last year: Tapas, Wuxiaworld, and Radish. [link]
Webnovel is under Tencent. Here's a fun article about that.
and from that article:
Cultivating native writers
The huge success of a handful of Chinese stories has been great for the platforms, but also unpredictable and hard to replicate. Within China, the industry isn't just built on that. It's also about the thousands of B-list or amateur authors constantly pumping out new works to keep readers on the platforms.
To recreate that overseas, Chinese platforms have begun to cultivate non-Chinese writers. And the platforms have plenty of experience from the two decades of competing within China.
Emphasis mine.
These companies are predatory at best. Webnovel has a notoriously hellish contract. Authors are paid pennies and expected to "pump out" content, and those writers have to produce 500-1k words at least 5 times a week or be in breach of contract.
The kicker? Most don't retain the IP for their work, let alone moral rights.
While we often cite "to become a better writer, you must write," there is a point where the stress of the constant churn doesn't allow a writer to grow.
I've had friends get cut out of revenue shares for their work because, technically, it is considered contract work. You were paid what you were paid, and whatever profits come from that go to the company. Often this is done on a second season, or slipped into an amended contract.
Check the fine print on any of the contests. Most include something about entries only being able to be posted on that platform (see even The Wattys) which, understandable, but exclusivity is a low gate. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you're trapped behind it and at the mercy of whatever platform is holding your work.
And these larger companies often release massive waves of censorship.
Recently on Tapas, novels (and comics!) were shadowbanned from the app if they had the word "kiss" in the title. This was just weeks ago. If you search "kiss" on the Tapas app, the main way that the audience accesses the site, literally nothing comes up. Have a tweet about it:
Tumblr media
[link]
It's the newest wave of censors that have been placed on the platform... and the platform has issued no statement on this. What other words are banned? Who knows? Well, omega is another one. But no one was told that. It's been a lot of trial and error among members of the community to find out if anyone can even find their stories anymore.
In the last few years, many of the more experienced authors I've met and highly respected on platforms just... left.
Does this mean that serial writing is dead in the water? Of course not.
I really, really hope not.
But if anyone out there is interested in taking that route, there's some pretty basic advice that everyone has heard:
read the TOC of a platform thoroughly before posting.
do not rely on a platform alone to share your work. you never know when something might happen, and suddenly your work will be unavailable. (this is one of the reasons that I run from exclusivity.)
plan to build your own audience, in your own way. Most platforms already have a niche, and that is what they are going to push more than anything.
understand that marketing is on you, just like any other kind of self-publishing route.
if your interested in becoming a "premium" author for the sites, read your contracts COMPLETELY. Even and especially renewals.
be wary if anything seems to good to be true when it comes to these large platforms. it probably is.
My experience, like everyone's, is obviously limited. I understand that. Personally? I loved platforms, and building communities on them with other writers, but I am finding it difficult to trust my work on them anymore.
I'm trying to figure out my own way now. I'm not sure what that's going to look like, but I'm trying to think of something. Because I haven't given up. I can't. I committed to writing my story as a series, and I'll finish it as such, because it is what is right for that story.
Let me know if you've got any ideas.

Literally every fihrie on the islands: We're not going to say we miss you and want you to come back. We would never! It's just that those Intruders are so Rude! They don't know the Rules! Murdering them is getting old really fast!
Galahkari: ... Well, we would have loved to come back to the islands and be your neighbours again. But unfortunately, the Intruders really want to kill us, so...
Fihrie: ...
(well, we were already going to kill them anyway)
Galahkari: And there's of course the issue of how we are supposed to get there. With our stuff. It would be unfortunate if we went back only to die in a couple of days because we have no clothes, or food, or shelters.
Fihrie: ...
(right, it wouldn't do for our fun toys to die too soon)
Galahkari: And some of those mainlanders stole our children. Their parents will not leave without them.
Fihrie: ...
(seriously? we're supposed to steal the children, not rescue them. ok, ok. we will just think about this as stealing them from the weird mainland not-fihrie and their human friends)
Lol, yeah
But also:
The fihrie are furious.
The first humans came to their islands and they were furious. Humans had no place here. They did their best to chase them off. Humans died. Humans vanished. Humans were enthralled.
The humans stayed.
The fihrie were furious.
Slowly, ever so slowly over the years the humans began to learn the Rules. Began to retaliate. A clever tweak to a deal here, a prank there. A particular clever one managed to swindle a gift. The humans began to put down proper roots. Still young, still new, but the order they brought started to integrade into the chaos the fihrie held.
So humans stayed.
The fihrie were furious - but also curious.
Humans found the boundaries. Through trial and error. Many died, many were lost. But they did. So they went to those boundaries and paid respect. Humans began to ask permission. The fihrie took more people, but more escaped.
So humans stayed.
The fihrie were furious, curious and - amused.
It's only been a short time - over 2000 years; many, many human generations - and the humans have learned the dance. Crudely. The fihrie indulge in their primitive pranks and tricks. They're... cute. It's like playing games, like teaching, like a competition. It's fun.
So the humans stayed.
And the fihrie... well
Then there's chaos. But not the kind they like. Still, most of their the humans are gone. There are... different ones. They're rude. So much ruder then the other humans were at first. Their The first ones were rude because they didn't know. (That's ne excuse, they were very clear on that) But the other ones were rude because they wanted to be rude. And that just would not stand.
So their humans fled.
And the fihrie took them back to stay.
.
.
Also, I don't think the Galahkari had to ask the fihrie to bring the taken children with them. The fihrie just did. Because they kann smell they're Galahkari, and the Galahkari are theirs.
They had to negotiate on the possessions though.

it’s interesting how the earth and wind temples in wind waker both have intentionally similar designs, but earth is one of the best dungeons in a game that already has great dungeons, while wind ranks among the worst in the series for me.  Both dungeons have you escorting a sage who can fly and assist you via a unique ability, but earth just does it way better.  Medli has much greater control over both her direction and distance than Makar, who can fly much higher, but is harder to get anywhere you want him to be even with a longer magic meter.  Medli’s harp reflecting rays of light lends itself well to solving satisfying puzzles, and plays perfectly with Link’s mirror shield, but Medli growing trees is pretty boring, as they only serve as hookshot targets or do nothing beyond open a door.
But even outside of Makar being the worse companion, the actual design of the wind temple doesn’t compare to Earth’s.  Earth temple was awesome in that it really played into the (typically) penultimate dungeon vibes you find elsewhere in the series (see: OOT’s spirit temple and MM’s Stone Tower Temple), feeling ancient and spooky, filled with redeads and ghosts, and features lots of fun puzzles.  Figuring out the angles of the light you’re trying to reflect could take some trial and error, but it was never frustrating, and felt like it paid off.  And using the light to turn the dark chuchus to stone, or injure the ghosts, was fun to play with.  Idk man, it was just a well done and creative dungeon, even if it was rooted in themes from past games!  And the boss was a lot of fun, a bit on the easy side, but as we all know from super mario 64, throwing a boss into bombs/spikes is always satisfying.
But the Wind temple was just... disappointing.  I had high hopes it would hold up as well as the Earth’s, but it didn’t.  The wallmasters in Earth were a hindrance, but never delayed you too badly, or made the game feel unfair.  But here, they really irritated me.  There’s one room where you have to drop through a hole in the floor to hit a switch, and it’s so hard to judge where the wallmasters are from above.  I’d find myself dropping right on top of them and getting yoinked back a couple rooms over and over again.  (And it was even worse if they yonked Makar).  Using the hookshot and iron boots to topple statues was a really cool idea, but that was about the only thing that stood out for me.  Wind gimmicks in video games have a tendency to be off-putting and frustrating, and that was just how this dungeon felt.  The big cylinder with the fan was a nuisance to navigate, often overshooting the platform you wanted, the hookshot climbing otherwise taking forever... The puzzles weren’t nearly as satisfying... even the one in the last room didn’t feel great because the iron boots are just sooooo painfully slow.  And the boss was just fine, it would have helped if you could lock-on with the hookshot, since it was so easy to miss it’s tongue, but I guess that would be kind of broken.

Skyline Gang: Trial of Darkness. Chapter 11
Chapter 1: click HERE
Chapter 10: click HERE
Chapter 12: click HERE
It took about two weeks for everything to be put together. It turned out that the Gang were allowed to leave the Skyline to go travelling. It wasn’t uncommon for it to happen. The previous Skyline Gang also travelled a lot. They would get inspiration and even based their shows based on all their travels. What they need to do was give notice and temporarily hand over the Skyline to the Redcoats to take care of everything. They needed to give a reason. They just said that they needed new ideas for a show. They couldn’t exactly explain the full reason. There might be a panic. Funding? Turns out that’s taken care of too. Whatever money came into the Skyline was split evening between two different accounts. One for the upkeep of the park and staff pay, while the other was funding for travelling. When everyone found out how much was in there, they believed that they could travel the entire world on one trip and still have some money left over. And passports? In a surprising twist, after snooping around the house, Pip was able to find passports for everyone. Even Rainbow and Misty had their own passports. Stroke of luck? Or was it the magic of the Skyline? Maybe the Gang will never know. The only thing that took time was getting tickets for an immediate as possible flight.
During those two weeks, Bud worked hard to build a vessel to carry the Sceptre of Shadows in. With a lot of materials that he was able to acquire, it was trial and error. If Dude or any of the others were to carry it, they can’t risk getting affected by it. Thankfully, all that hard worked paid off. Whenever Dude held it, he wasn’t affected. Same rang true for everyone else. If customs asked what it was, he’ll just say that it was a prop that they were returning. It wasn’t technically a lie, but he desperately hoped that there wouldn’t be any further suspicions. There didn’t appear to be any time crunch. That had to be a good sign, right? This “darkness” was probably still coming, building up like a bottle of fizzy drink ready to explode. This bomb won’t stay unexploded forever.
Everyone was ready when the time finally came. It just took Mimi some convincing to not pack the equivalent of a high end shopping mall. Essentials only. Not the amount that she had originally tried to bring with her. It was ridiculous to say the least. Thankfully as the time got closer to the time to leave, the less of a fight she put up. In the end, she miraculously ended up having to take the same amount as everybody else. The flight would be long, so everyone made sure that they were prepped for sitting still for the equivalent of twelve hours. Again Mimi kicked up a small fuss about not sitting in first class, but given the urgency of the situation, she quickly surrendered in that fight as well.
Misty, much to everyone’s surprise, behaved on the plane. If anything she was just looking around curiously and even paid attention to the safety talk. It was her first time on a plane, so no one decided to question her. The only trouble she caused was messing around with Sprout’s movie when he used the seat screen in front of him. Dude quickly put a stop to that, which thankfully was enough. Misty remained to be curious and even watched the world outside the window. Nothing eventful happened after that. Just a peaceful flight.
The bus ride from the airport could’ve been better. At least they’ve arrived to where they needed to go. Or at least close enough. No direct route to the temple, but this small village will do for the time being. Just a quick stop. Pick up what they need. Then go into the jungle. That’s the plan at least. Non perishable food? Check! Extra water? Check! Rainbow being found after he ran off when the bus stopped? Check! Trying to pull Mimi away from the market and stop her from buying unnecessary stuff? Erm…not quite…
Map? Not yet either.
Bud did calculate a general area for the temple, but it’s still a wide area. Better get a map that might have a more definitive location, otherwise the Gang will be stumbling through the jungle forever. The Gang had split up. One half search one part of the market, while the others check the other side of it. They meet in the middle and hopefully have something worth while. Dude split off with Pip, Misty and Sprout. Meanwhile Rainbow followed after Bud, Candi and Mimi. Dude carried the Sceptre for the time being. It was strapped to his rucksack, with Pip keeping an eye on it in case someone got too curious about it. As much as it would affect him the most, he’d rather be the first to catch it until he couldn’t anymore. Bud’s container worked like a charm for now, but there was no way to tell if it’s permanent. For the time being, look around, get any last minute essentials, and stay out of trouble.
“Uh oh…I smell trouble.” Pip announced suddenly, pointing at something. Dude whipped his head around and let out a loud groan.
“Sorry, that might have been me.” Sprout added cheekily before he was suddenly abandoned by Dude and Pip as they went to the chaos. He looked around and chased after them. He let out a loud groan as well once he saw the trouble. Misty was arguing with an elderly man. He looked to be another vendor but he was haggling with Misty about something in Spanish. Meanwhile Misty was shouting at him that she didn’t understand what he was saying and to speak English. This only caused the man to shout at her even more and the cycle just repeated in five seconds flat.
“You little-” Misty shouted, looking like she was getting ready to punch something.
“Misty! That’s enough!” Dude scolded, pulling Misty back immediately. He carefully pushed her towards the others, acting like a barrier between her and the man. The man meanwhile continued to shout obscenities in Spanish.
“He’s the one that started it!” Misty hissed, her voice barely heard over the Spanish. This was starting to get nowhere. Dude decided to take charge again, calmly turning to the man. He kept his hands up, keeping his posture steady.
“Señor, cálmate.” He suddenly spoke up. This caused the man to freeze mid sentence. He wasn’t the only one that was surprised. Sprout had his jaw dropped so much that it might as well be hitting the floor. And Pip and Misty were scratching their heads in disbelief.
“¿Sabes español?” The man asked after recovering from his shock.
“Sí, puedo hablar español.” Dude replied, keeping his voice as calm as he could. “Pido disculpas por mi amigo. Ella no lo sabe mejor.”
The elderly man looked up and down at Dude, still in disbelief as to what he was hearing. Given how rude Misty was to him, Dude could understand that. The faster he can find out what Misty did, the easier it might be to fix her mess. And the second that mess was cleared up, they can get back on track to finding a map of the jungle and possibly a direct location to the temple.
“Dude!” Sprout exclaimed, grabbing Dude’s shoulder.
“What?” Dude asked as he was turned around.
“I’m going to ask this as calmly as I can here: since when do you know Spanish?!” Sprout shouted, flailing his arms around like a windmill.
“That’s you being calm?” Pip grumbled, looking at Sprout disapprovingly.
“My dad’s side of the family came from Mexico. I learned from them.” Dude shrugged, not seeing what the big deal was. His attention was broken when the elder tapped his shoulder. Both proceeded to have a conversation in Spanish. It started with the man gesturing to Misty and going back on a tangent, while Dude tried to calm him down as best he could. He made a subtle gesture to Pip. If Misty was around and ready to start up drama, it would be best to get her away from the embers before she burns them again.
“Let’s just let Dude handle this.” Pip reasoned, recognising the signs thrown at her and gently pushing Misty away. Sprout was quick to follow. Dude spared a quick glance at his friends before he refocused his attention back to the elder. They continued to speak, and once they were out of earshot, Pip started to hiss at Misty. “And you promised to stay out of trouble.”
“I was!” Misty protested.
“Then what was that?” Pip asked, crossing her arms. Sprout was standing behind her, trying his best not to laugh at Misty’s misfortune. If he was caught, he’d be in the doghouse too.
“I don’t know!” Misty exclaimed, shrugging so hard that she almost fell over. “I was just walking around, minding my own business, and then the geezer just started shouting at me!”
“Did you try to take something from his stall?” Pip asked, raising her eyebrow.
“No! Honest! I wasn’t doing anything!” Misty shouted, face turning a little dark. Pip increased the gesture twice over as she stepped a little closer to Misty. It made her falter a little bit. “I mean, I might have picked something up, but I put it back when he started shouting at me. I didn’t know what he was saying so I shouted back. That’s when you lot showed up.”
Okay, so Misty probably touched something that she wasn’t supposed to. And there was a language barrier that neither party could settle on a treaty. Deciding that it was hopeless to say anything else to Misty, Pip turned her attention back to where Dude continued to speak to the old man. Now the man was much calmer and appeared to be a bit more understanding. After a minute, Dude made a couple of gestures but with his back to them, the others couldn’t make out what his body language was stating. The man looked calm to scared in almost a two seconds flat. Dude continued to try keeping him calm. This didn’t feel good. Did the elder know something that they don’t? Maybe he did…
After a couple of minutes, the old man slumped a little. Had he given up? He turned back to his stall, beckoning Dude to follow. Anticipation rose as the three watched. This might be promising. Excitement rose a little bit as Dude was handed something and he made a thankful gesture to the man. The elder didn’t respond in an all too positive manner. He waved Dude off as he seemed to ask a couple, more questions. Not wanting to accidentally repeat Misty’s mistake, Dude quickly said goodbye and jogged back to the three waiting for him. He had something in his hand that continued to look more promising.
“What did he say?” Sprout was the first to ask.
“He better have an apology!” Misty interjected.
“He gave me this map.” Dude explained, ignoring Misty completely. Unfolding the map, Dude showed a portion of the jungle that they would be going in. There were different branched paths but there was an X that appear and to be miles off the beaten path. “He said that the temple should be right here where he marked it. He must’ve known about the Sceptre because when I asked him more about it, he looked absolutely terrified. He warned us not to go but…”
“We need to return that thing…where…” Sprout said before growing pale. Dude felt a chill run through his spine. He checked the case. The lid was off and it was empty. Ignoring the bad feeling lingering over them, Dude, Pip and Sprout looked around in a panic. If someone had stolen it, maybe they can catch them. They had to before something terrible happens. Thankfully, they found it right away! In Misty’s hands! How did she grab it so quickly?!
“Misty, give it here!” Dude shouted, snatching the Sceptre from the girl’s hands. He bit back the feeling he got as best he could. He really hated the feeling this relic gave him. He was so quick to shove it back in the case that he nearly dropped it. “We can’t let people see it!”
“I don’t see what the point of that is.” Misty shrugged carelessly. Why can’t she take things seriously for once?! At least her actions didn’t draw any attention from the people around them. It could’ve been a whole lot worse.
“The less people see it, the less of panic it could cause.” Pip tired to reason. Misty only responded by poking her tongue out. She’s not going to change her mind over not causing trouble anytime soon. Pinching the Sceptre at whatever chance she got was her favourite pastime. There’s no way that she was going to change her mind over it.
“Let’s go find the others. The sooner we find them, the better.” Dude sighed, just wanting to move on from this. He really can’t wait to get this weight off of his back. Once this is over, things can go back to normal. Who knows? Maybe it’ll lead to a clue as to how they can go home at last? It was something to be hopeful for. Even if they don’t have a way home, at least this “darkness” that the Sceptre warns about won’t be coming.
“¿Señor?” A voice called out. The four turned to see the old man coming towards them again. He looked calm, but there was something else about him. Did he see the Sceptre after all? Misty was quick to run off, getting away from a potential round two of a shouting match. Sprout ran after her, hoping to keep her from causing any more trouble in the market.
“¿Sí?” Dude responded. The old man pulled he down a little before whispering in his ear. Pip wouldn’t have known what he was saying anyway, but telling how Dude’s eyes went a little wide and he looked a bit ashamed spoke volumes. When he was let go, her friend just had a bit of a shaky response to give as he started to back away a little. “Comprendido. Le pasaré el mensaje. Que tenga un buen día, señor.”
“What did he just say?” Pip asked once she and Dude were a good distance away.
“Something I dare not repeat in English.” Dude replied, wincing a little as he recalled what was said to him. “All I can say is that it’s about Misty and her attitude.”

*Zooms into the room as fast as I can and ends up straight in front of you*
I heard that Orpheus slays at dancing, I must hear more about this. Like a lot, like the exact type of songs he likes to dance to(probably for both cause and competitive), plus are some them vocaloid types like for example “Becoming Potatoes” by Neru or “World is mine” by Hatsune Miku?
*pat pat* take a seat anon, we are in for a ride :3
Well, at first, imagine that with all of those baked goods at a finger's disposal, Marinette and Adrien had to think of clever ways to keep the kids in shape since young.
So because they were lil bundles of energy, they decided to sign them up for at least a sport.
Yuulia was given to basketball, mostly since she loved the game and Adrien has gotten slam dunked multiple times during play time. :'3
Then came Yuuki. Yuuki was given initially to dance when they were 4. But they didn't really find it that fun.
Here comes Orpheus not even 1 year later, who gets adopted and as his chosen sport it was fencing. At first, Yuuki thought they had no chance(they were too embarrassed to ask their parents to sign them up to fencing)
Cue Orpheus not liking that much fencing. He was also too anxious to tell the parents that he doesn't want in. But Yuuki knew. And ya know... Since they were 5, almost 6, they were the same height, in the same class and had the same home, coming home at the same time since both extra classes were in the same building.
So ya know... Just make a switcheroo~
Yuuki took Orpheus's place in fencing and no one really paid mind. While Orpheus came up with a very complicated excuse to the teach that he was Yuuki and got their hair dyed and all that shit. The dance teach didn't really knew that Yuuki was even apart of the class, since they rarely saw them. Yuuki would be more in the back and retreated so pretty much forgettable.
Cue both excelling in each other's places. So at fencing, which was taught by Kagami, she would praise 'Orpheus', while at dance, the teacher would say that 'Yuuki' has a natural born talent.
Cue the competition seasons coming around and of course, came the question to the 2 if they want to participate. They both had talent and it would be a shame to miss on a chance to see what others their age and caliber had to offer. It would be a great experience and give some insight on possible improvements.
Of course, this is also when the jig is up, since the parents also were picking them up when Kagami and Juleka, the dance teacher, immediately approached Marinette, who came to pick them up and ask if they allow these 2 to be enrolled in the respective competitions.
Of course, it's a lot of back and forth until it is realised by the adults that these 2 pulled a switch-up. Marinette was, rightfully, disappointed that the 2 didn't tell them that they didn't want to do their initially assigned sports. Like they could've just told them and a simple arrangement could be done. Yuulia initially was up for volley, but she didn't like it and now was at basketball. There was expected a trial and error.
Initially, Yuuki and Orpheus are in awe since it was THAT FUCKING EASY?! And they didn't think about it at all??? Bro just ask?!
Adrien sometimes does give to Yuuki tips, while Mari makes all of Ortho's required dance costumes. Once Orpheus learns to sew, he does them alone, sometimes his mother helping when he's off to school or has too much homework. Both parents try to attend all of their 3 kids's competitions. Like they want to be there to support them after all. Sometimes one of them may have important things at the job, but at least one is there. Also Uncle Felix comes to the nationals, just because yes. He flies from London to Paris after all. >:3
Cue Isekai and a both Orpheus and Yuuki don't really mention it too much. Like they just casually throw it for like a sec, more like 'That reminds me of that time at the nationals when a kid sprained their ankle and I wasn't faulted cuz they fell down 2 meters further than me' or 'One time I danced in heels and when we got them off, Briana threw hers at a wall and they got stuck in a pinboard'.
It is also shown in their fighting styles. Yuuki uses more their staff like a sword. They also keep a small distance when fighting with an opponent and wacks them. Whereas Ortho has a much wider range and a lot of poise and controlled movements. He is more of an evader than Yuuki, often times on defence, while their sib is on offence.
As for preferences, Yuuki likes more the off the mat matches, while Orpheus prefers to dance on more spontaneous and the 70-80s vibes songs. It's more of that 'freedom to take a new spin on it' that both like it.
But Orpheus actually prefers to listen to vocaloid and Madonna tho. So there's this difference in between what he listens to and what he likes to dance to. Double Isekai Malleus was a lady gaga fan tho. -3-
As for the things they know from their first times on their sports before the switch? Orpheus knows how to hold a stick. That's it.
Yuuki knows the macarena at least! :'D

What’s happening lately in my life
Guess what? Calob messaged me on Langmate. He apologized that he ghosted on me. He said the longer he waited, the harder it was for him to message back. And he went on and said it was childish. I said I don't remember haha
After I tried my best to move on from him, sometimes I doubted my own meaning to exist(just for a few minutes), my students were worried about me if I was okay, I even tried reading books or studying real estate law to get my mind off of my own grusome thoughts.
Back when he dissappeared from my life suddenly, I checked his messages every hour every day every week. I blew up his phone lol After I had no response, I realized that I had to block him everywhere, distract myself all kinds of ways possible. And I finally feel checked out from him. I started working at a new job, and it has been five months now. I feel tired but feel great to have my own income that at least support my basic needs. Sometimes not enough but I have side gig to last me until my next paycheck comes in. I can buy myself my own clothes, food, some items I find cute at flea market. I can drive myself around the town whenever I want. I found my new hobby which is writing letters to my friends outside Japan. I watch movies here and there. I refocused to myself and see what make myself happy and well.
Here are two aspects of myself I changed this year.
First thing I had to change was my debt situation.
I had credit card debt of about 1 million yen, my sister paid for my pension which she told me after she paid 200000yen. My brother borrowed me 150000 yen.. I was seriously in helpless situation. My brother took me in at his company to work as a waitress for three months, which helped me pay off to my sister. Now I paid off my one credit card that had 4000USD on it, and I cancelled it. What I am left with is about 2500USD debt on my other credit card which I cancelled as well yesterday.
I am more than grateful for my family who willingly helped me survive. I should have taken cared of myself already to have emergency fund and a job. I still do not have my own place because I still want to live abroad. I do not want any long term housing contract. I feel like a very dumb person but I feel much better than before for having reduced the amount of debt this year.
The second thing I had to change was my relationship with men of my interest.
Long story short, like Calob, and D, I revolved my life around them. I enjoyed so it was not forced at all. But the problem was that I did not have my own foundation because I was always changing my plans to match their time and location. That led me to not being able to progress my career, thus no raise or in depth experience in one industry. Now I put myself first before anybody. Sometimes it is tempting because it looks easier to imagine being a housewife who works part time outside and get to stay indoor with someone you love's money to have your basic needs covered. But in reality, I did not feel the total freedom to spend somoene's money. I always felt like I owed them and I felt useless and small. I felt obligated to do things for them and always my wants and needs last.
Now that I have my own job that lasted for five months, I am already making a progress at the company. I assist my manager's tasks whenever she is not in the office. Management was something I was always interested in, and call center job is what people say I am good at.
I did not know in the past four years after Covid lay off, I was doing something meaningful. But today writing these out made me figured that I did actually made a progress. It was definitely a trial and error but I totally am a better version than before.
My skin is better too! I fixed my acne problem! All over my body. Face, neck back butt, it took me about a year to fix them.
I have experience in online customer support position for total of about a year, on-site tech support for one year, clerical staff for a few months. I hope these experience help me be in a better position in the future.

The Unsettled Debate: Work Experience vs. Education
If you are fresh out of high school, you might be debating whether or not to pursue a higher education degree or get into the workfield to gain experience instead.
The work experience vs. education debate is a controversial on-going debate that everyone seems to have a say in; professors, workfield experts, your colleagues, and even your parents.
Getting a degree and furthering your education has many advantages, and getting involved directly into work after school has just as many advantages. And while both routes have negative sides as well, it is completely up to you to settle this debate and choose the route that is right for you according to your needs and goals.
So, we are here to help you settle the work experience vs. education debate, and present you with the positives and negatives of both sides.
Education
The traditional route of pursuing a higher education may present itself as the “easy and safe” option of the work experience vs. degree debate, and while it may be the safer option out of the two, that does not make it necessarily easy.
So, what makes pursuing a higher education the preferred choice by many? Why are higher education degrees valued by employers? And why do some people hesitate getting higher education? In other words, what are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a degree?
Advantages:
• Getting a higher education enables you to gain much specialized, broad and deep knowledge about your field, which is highly valued by employers.
• It pushes students to gain hard skills related to their specific field of study. This saves employers time, money and effort for minimizing the graduate’s training.
• Many students would have already engaged in mandatory training by the time they finish studying and obtain their degree.
• Getting higher education enables students to gain soft skills such as communication skills, team work, and leadership skills; these are highly valued by employers, and they can be implemented in any type of work environment and role.
• The higher the education the better the paycheck.
• Essential if you aim to pursue postgraduate studies
The advantages make it crystal clear why getting education is the traditional and go-to route after high school. But what about the disadvantages?
Disadvantages:
• Time consuming; those are - at least - four years of your time spent on studying, rather than getting work experience (and getting paid.)
• Higher education is increasingly getting more expensive, and people are getting wary about student loans.
• Depending on your program and university, higher education might spoon-feed you and/or make you dependent on your professors instead of seeking knowledge yourself.
• Your degree will be - in a sense - irrelevant if you are pursuing a technical degree, as the constant changes in your field will require you further education, qualifications, and/or training.
Work Experience
Work experience probably presents the side of the “work experience vs. education” debate that is despised mostly by parents and professors, but receives am impressed look from employers, and you.
If you are thinking about getting into the workfield right after high school, and avoiding getting yourself into loans in order to get a degree, you might want to take all advantages and disadvantages into consideration before moving further with your decision.
Advantages:
• Enables you to learn through practical experience and trial-and-error, instead of being spoon-fed.
• Polishes your commitment and seriousness towards your professional goals.
• Makes you more responsible and self-motivated.
• Enables you to gain hard and soft skills specific to your field’s needs and demands.
• Mostly suitable for those having a particular talent in a certain field.
Those advantages are able to set off a successful career with your commitment and professionalism, making it easy for you to excel at your current role and get to your next one. However, consider the disadvantages as well.
Disadvantages:
• Time consuming; getting into the workfield early - comparatively speaking - with no degree requires lots of time to gain much specialized knowledge that is broad and deep enough for your career’s demands.
• This option may not pay well, especially in the beginning of your career.
• It may be initially hard to find a role that aligns with your goals but that you are able to fulfill with your academic qualification.
• The set of skills you gain may not comprise transferable skills, which can limit your career advancement.
Settle the Debate yourself
Choose your next step after graduation by following these steps:
• Specify your field of interest.
• Outline your short-term and long-term career goals.
• Brainstorm all possible ways to achieve your goals.
• Specify the best ways and what makes them the best ones.
• Pick the work experience route or the high education degree route accordingly.
And In case you are struggling with applying for jobs, check the iApply job application services and features iApply is the right artificial intelligence engine for you that helps you with getting your desired job, no matter if you get a higher education or want to get into the workfield directly.

I don’t know what you’ve taken me for, it appears very likely that you’d simply remain as who you currently are in some grave extend, it appears as another lost cause. Not that I had expected otherwise, throughout all those years it became apparent that you’ve not learned a thing from your own trial and errors. In my eyes you are a prime example, of someone who has aged rather poorly. It was such a pity, to behold the downfall of such a splendid mind becoming prone to eager witted presumptuous inclinations, like some sort of adopted second nature. Which happens to confuse ambiguous self imposed limitations unknowingly, unable to make clear distinctions in between thinking and knowing. Led astray countless times by intuitive senses, but alas ignorance is such a trivalent bliss at best! How rather quick they forget, like the rest of the ungrateful speck of not so humane beings.
On a short lived voyage down to memory lane, as a toddler at the mere age of two, I already knew it to be true! This misconduct better known as deceit from these “so-called developed adults.” It came by rather naturally I suppose, the signs which distinguish and betray themselves. Being able to perceive what lies behind the eyes, I owe it to one of them. For every now and then he would be nothing except for the pathological liar he is, but it paid off rather well. To this day he is very much the same, in fact he lies so often, I think he even started to belief in these self conjured falsehood.
Fast forwarding and returning to the present, two and a half decade later. The audacity to which you’ve alluded to, thinking that you can deceive me is quite something. Especially, when I am quick striking against these serpentine movements by confrontation, and yet here once anew enters the typical phase or should I say face that spells out denial?
Unearthing the tricks of the trade from such insincere practices, born from profound senses of distrust. To be attentive to the other meanings behind the words is what counts, I had enough dealings with dubious devils and their double meanings. Since it is in my nature to unravel and dissect each word, trying to connect the dots with the five big W’s. In each and every attempt to unravel the relevance of reasoning, concerning the origin and construct of any thought.
I could be like you if I wanted to of course. But I’d rather not participate in this childish self indulgence, because I know you do like to stir things up by creating situations on purpose, because of how boring you deem your own life to be. It is easy to find a problem, to look for one or for a problem to find you, but it isn’t always as easy to solve... And that as they say is that.

a week later
I said goodbye to a lot of people last week. The feeling didn’t really hit until I said bye to Jess the night before, and Cody in the morning. We hopped on the freeway and the nervousness made me surprisingly nauseous and really emotional. I sat and thought about a lot of things-- how I was leaving a lot behind, Caitlin, my best friends, my comfort zone. I was really going to miss everything I took for granted. Rosie was anxious, she knew a lot was changing and wasn’t handling the drive up very well, so we stopped every couple hours to get some air and see some sights.
The next morning, I woke up early and ate my complimentary continental breakfast, squeezing every last cent of the expiring Hilton employee benefits that I could. The drive up past Redding was beautiful, I wish I stopped to take more pictures. We found a nice little mountain music playlist and the nervousness turned into anticipation. I’m really out here, my car filled to the tip top with clothes, memorabilia, Rosie and myself. No house key on my keychain, in some sort of in between. It felt electric. That day was a hard drive, but we made a stop in Portland for the night, 3 hours from our destination.
Touched down in Seattle the next morning, 3 hours flew by and Rosie could somehow tell that we were close. The most bizarre thing happened as I pulled up to my new building, my car battery died literally as I drove up and stopped in the driveway. It was really weird timing, and felt like some sort of sign that I had finally made it. Before, this minor inconvenience would’ve really easily bummed me out and perhaps ruined my day, but I was riding this high and just grateful and happy that Rosie and I made it safe and sound. Moving my belongings was quick, there’s really only so much I could fit in my small SUV.
Originally, I had planned to take a couple weeks off work to really soak this place in, but things were starting to get really expensive really fast. Between the furniture, the moving deposit and rent, and trying new food everywhere I go, I’ve learned that it’s actually really, really easy to blow an entire budget for something very quickly. I started my transfer training at the sister restaurant of my last place, and also staged at Canlis, which is widely known as one of the best restaurants in the PNW. They hired me after my tryout, and I’m going to try and balance both gigs for a little bit. Canlis doesn’t pay as well as you would think, they split the paid gratuity into a competitive hourly wage in order to pay the kitchen staff a fair wage, which is something I can get on board with. Unfortunately, it’s not enough for me to sustain my lifestyle, so for the time being, I have to work another job. It’s okay, though, I’ve learned through my trials and errors that I enjoy putting time in this profession. I enjoy it a lot more when it’s not as time consuming, but my focus right now is to get back to a comfortable place financially, so that I can take some more time to work on the things that are also important, just not as urgent.
This place is still coming together, my new workplaces are exciting and challenging, and Rosie is adjusting well. I couldn’t really ask for more right now, so I’m just going to take my time, and figure out what really is my reason for being here. I’m optimistic. For once.

Delicious (3/4)
Ok, so I know it was supposed to be a 2-shot but well, the plot kind of got away from me. Also I was going to have this be a super long chapter and decided against it. I’m just going to break the story up into 4 parts. So here’s part 3. Part 4 coming soon. IDK when exactly because my day off ended up not being a day off and I’m behind on my writing as it is. But hopefully this tides ya’ll over for a bit! Also this thing is SO not beta read. Any errors are all mine. Parts 1-3 can now be read in Ao3.

Katniss’ phone pinged with the sound of another notification.
She glanced at the screen and saw it was a text from Peeta.
That had to be the fourth one today.
She rolled her eyes and ignored it, refocusing on her computer and the numbers she was reviewing. She had brought some extra work home with her this weekend. Not because she was behind but because she needed a distraction. Peeta had been texting and calling since their last class. It was always apologies and requests for her to talk to him. Katniss just rolled her eyes at his gall.
She had done a good job of not responding so far, but had to stop listening to the voicemails he left because he sounded so sad and sorrowful she almost caved.
He certainly was good at faking remorse. She almost believed he was sorry, and regretted the way he had acted when he flirted with her even though he was already dating another woman.
The key word being almost.
She knew she was going to have to end the silent treatment sometime soon.
Tuesday was going to be coming up soon, and that was the day they usually had their class.
She hadn’t decided what to do about it.
On the one hand she never wanted to see Peeta Mellark again.
On the other hand she had spent quite a bit of money on those private cooking classes and she either needed a refund for the rest of the classes, or maybe even a full refund considering she hadn’t really learned how to cook a proper meal from scratch yet.
It sure would be nice to get all her money back, considering it was mainly Peeta’s fault she needed to discontinue their classes. (Well actually, Katniss hadn’t been making much progress in cooking even before the infamous flirting incident, but she considered that to be mostly his fault as well. He was just too damn distracting)
She knows if she doesn’t make arrangements soon, she won’t get any sleep tonight.
With a sigh, Katniss picked up her phone, intending to send him a text saying she wants to cancel the rest of their scheduled classes, and would like some sort of refund. But just as she opens her messenger app, another text comes in from him.
Katniss, I guess you’ve decided you’re not going to respond to my attempts to contact you. That’s ok. I just want to let you know I’ve arranged for another chef to take over this Tuesday’s cooking lesson, and all future lessons if that’s what you’d prefer. I know you’re paid through until next month, and it's only fair you get to finish your lessons, even if you’ve decided you don’t want me to teach you anymore. So I’m including the contact info for the substitute chef, in case you want to research his credentials or contact him before class. He’s a total professional and is a really great teacher. If this arrangement isn’t to your liking I’m also willing to offer you a full refund. Although I’d hate to end your classes without you achieving your cooking goals. Cinna is great though and I wish you’d give his class a chance.  Even if you just do a trial run on Tuesday to see if you guys can work together. Still, it's your call. I will abide by whatever you decide.
Katniss stares at his text for a full minute after she’s done. She reads it over again, trying to decode his message for any hidden meaning. She sees the contact file but doesn't open it immediately.
She can’t decide whether she should give this a chance or not.
Peeta’s message practically reeked of contrition, but she didn’t know whether she trusted him enough to be taught by one of his friends.
Although she couldn’t be certain his friends were misleading cretins like him. For all she knew this other chef was a perfectly normal person, and she was being judgmental before she even met the guy. So why was she afraid to give it a try?
Katniss searched deeper inside herself, and made an annoyed noise when she came up with the answer.
The truth was, Katniss was still pissed at Peeta, and the anger she felt, not to mention the humiliation of asking him to dinner while he was unavailable, was still fresh. She didn’t feel comfortable accepting anything from him right now, even if it was just an alternative to having to cook with him.
Just as she was about to type out a ‘No thank you, I just want a refund.’ as her response, another text came in.
I know what happened last Tuesday was unprofessional and irresponsible of me. For what it's worth I want to apologize again to you. It was completely my fault. I should never have allowed myself to get carried away like that. I just want to stress this is not something I am in the habit of doing. I’ve never done anything like that with a student of mine or while I was dating someone. I messed up, and even though nothing physical happened between us I know you have a right to be upset because I wasn’t upfront with you. I’m really sorry Kantiss. I never meant to lead you on. I just underestimated how much I felt for you, and to my lasting shame I didn’t put a stop to things until I’d already made an ass of myself. I can’t tell you how much I regret screwing things up. You deserve so much better than the way I treated you, as a student, a friend, and as a person in general. I just had to tell you that one last time before I stopped trying to contact you. If you don’t respond to this text I’ll just arrange for a full refund to be sent back to the card you used to pay for the classes and I’ll never bother you again.
Katniss bit her lip as she read over the last few words of the second message.
Damn him for knowing exactly what to say, and exactly how to say it to convince her he was telling the truth. Peeta sure had a way with words. She kind of hated him for being so perfect at everything, including apologizing.
He was a nice guy after all, just as she had initially thought. The only mistake he had ever made was flirting with her, and that just made her feel conflicted about everything. It proved he wasn’t infallible but it also made her stomach knot uncomfortably when she thought about how he had said he underestimated his feelings for her.
She wondered what that meant. Did he like her? Would he have wanted to date her if he had been single and free to do so? Or was he just attracted to her physically and wanted to fuck her?
Katniss groaned, rubbing the heels of her palms into her eyes as she tried to stop from going down the rabbit hole of deducting Peeta’s motivations. She wasn’t about to ask him for the details. She’d rather die than discuss their near miss. (Even if she had dreamed a couple times about the way he smelled and the way his arms felt when he had caged her in to help her knead the dough)
In the end she just couldn’t put herself through that much torture. Whatever he felt for her, Katniss was determined to let it go. He had a girlfriend. It would be inappropriate to discuss that sort of thing now.
But she supposed she could at least take him up on his offer to continue her cooking classes with a different chef. She had never been one to give up on something after she had decided she wanted it.
And she had already relegated herself to giving up on having Peeta. So mastering how to cook would have to be achievement enough.
Maybe this time she’d actually learn something, since there was no way the universe could orchestrate for her to get stuck with another impossibly hot instructor.
Katniss picked up her phone and sent off a quick reply, telling him she was willing to do a trial run with Cinna on Tuesday. She didn’t comment on his apology, or anything else he had said.
What was the point?
It would just make things uncomfortable for both of them.
So Katniss just left it alone.

A few days later Katniss was pleasantly surprised to learn after showing up for class on Tuesday that Cinna was indeed as good as Peeta had said. He was an amazing chef and a great teacher. He was handsome, with rich smooth cocoa complete skin and an amazing pair of greenish/hazel eyes, but it was not on the same level of distraction Peeta had been.
They got along right off that bat, and just as she expected, since she wasn’t attracted to Cinna (despite his good looks) in the same way she had been to Peeta, it made it infinitely easier for her to pay attention and learn.
At the end of the lesson Katniss didn’t surprise either of them when she answered in the affirmative to Cinna’s question if she wanted to continue classes with him as her instructor. She didn’t even have to question it, it just felt right.
~
Before she knew it it had been a month and her last couple of classes were drawing near.
Katniss had made great progress with her lessons. She now knew the 12 basics of cooking that Cinna swore would get her through just about anything.
She knew how to make soup stocks, sauces, roast vegetables, poach an egg, prepare and cook meat in a variety of ways, she could even make a dessert or two.
Katniss was really proud of herself. Cinna was even prouder. When he asked if he could invite his wife Portia, (who was also a chef and was in the building to meet her husband for drinks after his class) to taste the chili Katniss whipped up, Katniss was hesitant.
But Portia’s calm and affable demeanor swayed her.
“Mmmn, this is really good.” Portia exclaimed as she dipped her spoon back into Cinna’s bowl for a second taste.
Katniss blushed, beyond thrilled that two chefs had deemed her cooking good enough to actually eat.
“And to think when we started with her about a month ago she could barely bake bread.” Cinna commented, while he beamed at Katniss.
Katniss chuckled in remembrance, when at their first meeting Cinna had asked what she had learned so far with Peeta and Katniss had admitted she only knew how to make bread and Cinna had been struck speechless for a second and then he’d rolled up his sleeves and declared they had better get to work.
That’s when she had decided she was going to be ok working with Cinna.
“Oh, this is so savory, and with just the right amount of heat! But the avocado adds to the creaminess in a way I hadn’t expected.” Portia exclaimed again, walking forward to examine the leftover ingredients and spices on the counter.
“It was Katniss’ idea to add the avocado cubes.” Cinna replied.
Katniss pursed her lips, debating whether to admit she had remembered that particular tip from one of Peeta’s classes when he was trying to teach her substitutions for dairy products. She had asked him for tips because Katniss’ sister Prim was lactose intolerant. Peeta had told her that in a chili recipe you could substitute avocado for sour cream for that hint of creaminess.
“It reminds me of something….” Portia said, trailing off in thought.
Katniss raised her eyebrows, waiting for Portia to finish her sentence, when all of a sudden Portia snapped her fingers loudly and said, “I know! Peeta’s vegan chili recipe! Remember? He made it once for one of his exam pieces and he asked us to taste it before he submitted it to the review board?” Portia said excitedly.
Katniss breathed out a sigh. It wasn’t that she wanted credit for thinking of using avocado in the dish, it was simply because she didn’t like bringing up Peeta.
Kantiss knew he and Cinna were good friends, and she had tried her best to steer clear of the subject of her former instructor. Katniss had no idea what Peeta had told Cinna, or if he knew the reason why she had stopped taking lessons from him.
She didn’t want to be tempted into a conversation about her former teacher because deep down she desperately wanted to know how he was doing, and her level of interest was still inappropriate.
“Such a shame what happened to him.” Portia said, off hand.
Katniss' eyes snapped up to Portia, suddenly keyed into the conversation completely.
Cinna ‘uh huh-ed’ delicately, not moving his lips because he had just eaten another spoonful of chili.
“What? What happened to him? Is he ok?!” Katniss exclaimed, worried suddenly to an almost desperate point.
All she could think of was Peeta, the sweet, kind, and handsome chef who had barely managed to teach her how to boil water, lying somewhere in a ditch, or worse.
“Are you alright dear?” Portia asked, her expression concerned.
“Peeta was Katniss’ original instructor, honey, remember? She knows him.” Cinna explained, before reaching out a hand to steady Katniss who hadn’t realized she had started shaking.
“He’s fine Katniss. He just went through a bad break up recently.” Cinna said in a careful, reassuring tone. Katniss met his hazel green eyes and realized he knew about her and Peeta. Maybe not everything, but it was apparent by the way Cinna was looking at her that he was aware something had happened between them.
“Breakup? That boy got steamrolled and shattered. I never would have expected it of sweet little Madge Undersee. Pulling the wool over Peeta’s eyes and two-timing him with a serviceman for half a year while Peeta was back in the States here waiting for her. It’s a travesty, is what it is.” Portia elaborated and Katniss gasped.
Peeta had gotten cheated on? What? Katniss was at a loss for words trying to think of what to say.
“Portia, let’s not go airing Peeta’s laundry.” Cinna told his wife gently.
“I’m sorry dear, I just get so upset every time I think of poor Peeta. He could have met a nice girl by now. Someone like Peeta deserves to be happy and appreciated. Instead he spent the last year lonely and miserable for nothing.” Portia vented angrily. Katniss examined her face and in it she saw genuine concern and indignation on behalf of Peeta. Katniss could see that she cared for Peeta a lot.
“You’ll have to excuse my wife. She was Peeta’s sponsor and mentor when he was at Escoffier. The culinary school he graduated from.” Cinna said, gently taking Portia’s hand.
Katniss remembered Peeta saying his family had not supported his decision to go culinary school over a traditional university. She had wondered how he had financed his schooling. Now she knew the answer. Portia it seemed, had known Peeta for years, had sponsored him in college, and was still a close friend of his.
Portia apologized, and excused herself. She complimented Katniss one last time on her chili and all the progress she made, before telling Cinna she was going to wait for him down in the lobby.
Kantiss nodded in understanding, and smiled at Portia’s kind words. She waved goodbye to the woman but was still inwardly troubled by the news she had received. She knew Peeta was seeing someone, but she had no idea his girlfriend was out of the country, and had been for a year. It cast Katniss and his encounter in the kitchen a few weeks ago in a slightly different light. Adding to the fact that Peeta was the one who got cheated on, not the one who did the cheating.
Katniss felt that same old urge to travel down the rabbit hole and try to dissect Peeta’s motivations and the periphery circumstances. Had he really been miserable in his relationship for that long? Is that why he sought out another woman’s attention?
Katniss, now more than ever, wanted answers about what that night meant to Peeta, and most of all, she wanted answers about the words he used in their last communication.
I just underestimated how much I felt for you.
Those words, more than anything, haunted Katniss. They always left her with an unsettled feeling whenever her mind wandered back to the subject of Peeta Mellark.
Unfortunately though, Katniss had already burned her bridges with Peeta.
She had not contacted him since his last text message, and had never even replied to let him know she had accepted his apology.
Katniss reasoned with herself that if she opened the door to Peeta again, even just to speak to him, she’d be tempted to want more from him.
She had known from their very first class together that she was in dangerous territory with Peeta. She had been attracted to him from the first, and spending time with him only made it worse. It was an overwhelming feeling, and Katniss hated giving over her control. She had never felt the desire to get closer to someone come on as strongly, or as quickly as it had with the blond chef who made her smile more easily than any man she ever dated in the past.
But none of that had mattered while he had a girlfriend. Katniss wasn’t a homewrecker. And Peeta had obviously manned up and put a stop to their flirtation before things got out of hand. Even though she was still upset with him for not telling her right off the bat he was unavailable, she had been letting go of her anger more and more.
What she hadn’t been able to shake was the disappointment in losing Peeta as a friend. She regretted that more than anything. Now hearing that Peeta had been going through a rough time, and had gotten his heart broken just made Katniss want to reach out to him again.
But she was pretty sure her attempts to contact him would be unappreciated. Katniss had made it clear she wanted nothing to do with him after what happened between them. She left things in a bad place and had waited too long to fix it.
Katniss blew out a dejected sigh and moved to begin cleaning up her cooking station.
It was almost time for class to be over.
“Penny for your thoughts.” Cinna’s voice startled Katniss out of her reverie.
His perceptive but kind green eyes seemed to see everything. Katniss blinked up at him, startled but also relieved in a way.
She had always felt Cinna was the kind of person one could share one’s deepest secrets with. He had the look of a human vault, who would store things away but would never give away information unwarranted.
“I guess I’m just a little worried about Peeta.” Katniss admitted. It was the truth, at least the biggest part of the truth. And she had to start somewhere that felt safe.
“Peeta’s a big boy, Katniss. He’ll be alright.” Cinna said as he helped her rinse off the used cooking utensils after she was done washing them with soap.
“I know that. I just….I mean this girl he was seeing, did she even realize how much Peeta sacrificed for her before she just-” Katniss trailed off, scowling deeply.
“Some people don’t know a good thing when they have it.” Cinna said, arching his eyebrow at her in a slightly pointed manner.
Katniss stopped scrubbing the cutting board.
“I don’t know what Peeta told you, but I never ‘had’ him, you know. He was just my teacher.” She said slowly.
“You two were friends weren’t you?” Cinna asked.
“Yeah…I guess we were.”
“And now?”
“It's not that simple….”
“It often isn’t that complicated either. What’s stopping you from reconciling your friendship?”
“Me, I guess.”
“Are you still angry at Peeta?”
“Not angry, not anymore, just….”
“Just what?”
“Reluctant? Terrified? Unworthy? Take your pick.”
“Katniss, those are some pretty strong adjectives, and I think it would take some time to unpack the emotions behind them.” Cinna said.
“And I only pay you to teach me to cook, not psychoanalyze me.” Katniss said, with a dry laugh.
“Hey, I earned every penny teaching you the difference between a Chiffonade and a Julienne cut. But friends don’t need to exchange money for something as simple as listening. So, come out with me and Portia for drinks tonight and explain it to me.”
“Oh, no Cinna I couldn't intrude on your time with your wife.”
“Portia and I have the rest of our lives to spend time together. That’s what being married means, Kantiss.” Cinna said with such surety, such an easy-going smile that Katniss’ heart ached painfully for a second to see the blatant love in his eyes and the confidence with which he planned his future.
“No way Cinna. You’re probably dog tired right now and frankly so am I. You don’t need to hear me bitch about how I screw up every relationship I start for the next two hours. Let’s just call it night ok? And maybe I’ll let you pick my brain another time.”
“I’ll let you off the hook for tonight Katniss, but this conversation isn’t over. In fact, I’m inviting you to the grand opening of my wife’s new gourmet bar and grill.” Cinna said in a stern voice.
Katniss raised her eyebrows in surprise.
“A gourmet bar and grill?” She asked, very interested to know more.
“It's this new thing she’s trying. We have no idea if it’ll work, but with her skills in the kitchen and her business partner Haymitch’s acumen when it comes to mixology and bartending, we’re hoping to make a go of it.” Cinna said with a wry smile.
“Haymitch? As in Abernathy? The guy who used to own the old hole in the wall called The Revolution?” Katniss asked, flabbergasted to learn the old man was still alive and kicking despite his drinking habit and his bar burning down a few years ago.
“Haymitch and The Revolution are old friends of ours. It was a shame when he had to take a much reduced payout when the insurance adjusters found out he had been informed the wiring in his old bar was faulty. He was all set to close down for a week and have it replaced when the fire broke out. He’s been saving up since then to reopen his bar, but it was slow going. Portia always wanted to try her hand as a bar and grill type endeavor, so we decided to partner with him. We’re hoping the mix of good food, modern aesthetics, and quality liquor will endear us to the good people of this city.” Cinna told her, a hopeful note in his voice.
“Well, The Rev had a lot of loyal customers. I used to go occasionally and it was a great place.” Katniss replied, putting away the last of the utensils on the drying rack.
“Yes! Haymitch’s old patrons plus the loyal customers Portia and I have accumulated with our bistro should make for a good foundation, but we always need more people to help us get the word out.” Cinna said, nudging her side in a friendly manner.
“You want me to put up fliers or something at my work?” Katniss asked, seriously. She had been to Cinna and Portia’s restaurant, and she knew their food was delicious. She also missed the laid back, homey atmosphere of The Rev.
“That won’t be necessary, but I would like you to come to the opening and after you try out the food and drinks and find yourself completely enchanted, then I would appreciate it if you went back to work on Monday and gushed about it to everyone.” Cinna told her with a laugh.
Katniss rolled her eyes, certain she’d never ‘gushed’ about anything before. But for Cinna she would try.
“Alright, when and where, and also what’s the dress code?” Katniss asked. Cinna grinned at her as she grabbed her purse and he took out his keys to lock the classroom up.
“I’ll text you the details dear, but since its cocktails and the grand opening, it's going to be slightly posh. I’d advise you to get out your little black dress for the evening.” He said before opening the door to the classroom to allow her to go ahead of him.
“Does that mean heels too?” Katniss asked in dismay.
“Afraid so. But don’t worry. I’m betting you’ll survive, Katniss.” Cinna said with a chuckle.
“And how do you know that for sure?” Katniss asked him in an annoyed tone.
“Because Peeta will be there.” Cinna said as he locked the door. Kantiss gasped but before she could complain or say anything he continued, “And something tells me the two of you together in the same room might just spark something incredible.”
“Or burn the whole place down.” Katniss muttered and added a scoff for good measure.
Cinna just laughed.
“I’m doing you a favor, Girl on Fire. You do not want to leave things unresolved with a guy like Peeta, or you might just look back and kick yourself.” Her cooking instructor told her in a sagelike voice.
Katniss stuck her tongue out at him in a childish manner, but it only made Cinna guffaw.
“Don’t you wanna see Peeta in a nice pair of slacks?” Cinna asked her as he wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
Kantiss felt her cheeks heat with a blush. The truth was, yes, she very much wanted to see Peeta’s deliciously sculpted ass in a pair of tight fitting dress pants. She also wanted to see him in a lot less than that, but the notion was neither here nor there.
“If I go it's only for the free appetizers and drinks.” Katniss groussed.
“Whatever you say, dear!” Cinna called as Katniss walked off in the direction where her car was parked.
And even though Katniss knew it was probably a very bad idea, she couldn’t deny that she was already planning on going to the grand opening. She had to find out once and for all what there was between her and Peeta Mellark.
