20 questions for fic writers
Hey @cha-melodius thanks for tagging me in this!
How many works do you have on ao3?
23
What's your total ao3 word count?
329,905
What fandoms do you write for?
RWRB and A Marvellous Light (The Last Binding trilogy). I've been thinking about writing for We Could be So Good by Cat Sebastian since I read it last week. I loved it so much I binge read 3 other books by the same author straight after, and then turned right back to WCBSG. Book rec for everyone who's not read it!
Top five fics by kudos:
Deep Blue
Just Like That.
Oxford Days
In His Wildest Dreams
A tie for fifth! Have One (On Me) and Tumbled Down and Tangled Up
Do you respond to comments?
Yes! Unless they're a bit dodge lol
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
This is the question that reminds me I've done this game before hehe. I'm only interested in happy endings so this is hard to choose, but Don't Wanna Be A Fool For You is quite angsty and ends just as they're getting over the angst, so I have to go with that.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I always write happy endings, BUT, if I must choose, I'm gonna go with a non-RWRB fic here. in your room, like a temple is an epilogue of sorts to A Marvellous Light, and it makes me SO HAPPY to have written this settled future for Robin and Edwin.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not usually, though I did get a couple of annoying comments on my first threesome fic from people who thought their own vision of monogamy for Alex and Henry was something they had to come and tell me about 🙄
Do you write smut?
hahahahhaaaaaaaa yes
Craziest crossover:
Never done one
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not as far as I know
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No! Someone did ask me about translating Deep Blue but I don't think they've followed through with it. I'd love it though
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No
All time favorite ship?
Alex and Henry
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oooh, I don't have any WIPs on ao3 to feel guilty about. What sits on my hard drive is between me and my atheist god (also me)
What are your writing strengths?
Yikes, ok! Here are things I like about my writing: I like the way I write smut that's super emotional AND super hot, and all the different ways I've come up to make smut scenes different from each other (because writing them can sometimes feel repetitive from my perspective). I like the way I play with rhythm in sentences and build tension in scenes. I like the way I build emotional and sexual tension in a piece overall. Please no one drop into the notes to tell me they disagree 😂
What are your writing weaknesses?
I CANNOT come up with external obstacles! Whenever I'm trying to plot something out and I'm trying to come up with BIG PLOT REASONS to keep people apart, my brain just freezes. I love internal obstacles, the emotional reasons why people choose to do the things they do, but as for external things to move the plot along (think Jeffrey Richard leaking emails, Queen Mary telling Henry how to live his life) I'm just... ultimately uninterested in them. Which is fine if it's a choice, and I love a lot of writing just like that, but I wish my brain could at least TRY.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
Like it.
First fandom you wrote in?
RWRB
Favorite fic you've written?
Haha good one. Changes all the time. Current fave: Paper Chains, I think (a personal stab to my heart how much it's underrated). I tried something new for me with the structure, and I think the emotional punches hit so hard, I'm so proud of it. Or maybe the new one for RBB, called Foxden Park. Coming soon!
No pressure tags (and sorry if you've already done this and I've missed it!): @thesleepyskipper @firenati0n @welcometololaland @inexplicablymine @sparklepocalypse
@onetwistedmiracle @tintagel-or-cockleshells @historicallysam @cultofsappho @14carrotghoul
@suseagull04 @magicandarchery @itsmaybitheway @porcelainmortal @anincompletelist and anyone who fancies joining in! 😘

it really is starting to feel like every single person at dc has somehow just completely forgotten how storytelling works on a fundamental level. like i genuinely believe 99% of the problems they’re having could be solved if all the writers and the entire editorial staff was forced to take a middle school reading class

Why is Angie your favourite character?
This is really funny I just got off call with Glownary and was talking about how much I don't miss Danganronpa discourse. Anyway I hope someone finds a way to get mad at me in this post!
((Admittedly I'd probably actually place Korekiyo above her because he ACTUALLY has a relevant and specified canon story,,, but, y'kno))
Plain and simple, she just has a handful of design and character tropes I super adore in characters! As a base, I'm usually not super into,,, well-adjusted, well-liked , reasonable, and rational characters. LMAO. They're fine but I live for exaggeration. I LOVE when they're little freaks and not watered down at all for the viewers sake/comfort, I love when they (both the writers and the written) just keep twisting the knife for no good reason other than the bit despite how unconventional it may be.
One could argue that her not being watered down and being as shitty to the other players as she is is a trauma response, or just a mentally ill person being mentally ill. It can be neat to think of her that way sometimes! It's of my opinion that almost all Danganronpa characters are super open-ended lore/personality-wise and we as fans are just making up canon as we go because it's FUCKING FUN, and, as such, all the ways that Angie can be interpreted is very interesting to me-- EVEN if that's seen as "the irredeemable annoying religion-force-feeding zealot antagonist." Which is, of course, an objectively awful way to view anyone REGARDLESS of media illiteracy, but, you know! I like weird freaks so this "flaw" they see is simply more food for me. Yippee!!
Whether I think she's canonically A) genuinely malicious and sadistic, B) traumatized from an abusive religious sect, C) honestly caring about the other players, and/or D) none/all of the above? I'll never tell! Oops all bangers!
Tropes I enjoy, whether or not I found myself enjoying them BECAUSE of Angie herself;;
Religion, especially if it's horrifying and...bad! (Most of my own characters deal heavily with religion and religious trauma, I think it's cool to play with, whether or not it's a fantasy religion like I think Angie's is)
CULTS! Cult behavior! Let's live in a commune!! (GUYS I LOVE MIDSOMMAR)
Dark skin / light hair contrast color combo goes hard!!!
+ The pansexual flag palette is literally my favorite color combo ever!!!!
Manipulative little shits!!!!!
Small scary women!!!!!!
Islander stuff, it's very nostalgic to me and I just have a deep love and appreciation for the beach and ocean!!!!!!!
Piercings!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cutesy sunshine character who could and would stab you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BLOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IDK HOW THIS WASN'T MY FIRST POINT!!!!!!!!!!
AND SHE'S JUST FUCKING SILLY!!!!!!!! SHE'S GENUINELY SO FUNNY AND CUTE ESPECIALLY IN HER INTERACTIONS WITH SHUICHI!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE HER SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She was an IMMEDIATE favorite when I played V3 and when I found out that, like, everyone fucking HATED her and she's probably the least liked character in the entire class by the fans, my brain immediately went the contrarian route to find reasons to like her even MORE. I tend to do this a lot, but when it's a character I already enjoy, it's even worse, dude.
ummmmm obligatory Shinnaga mention sorry but I frequently tend to appreciate a character a lot more based on potential dynamics alone. Ships, romantic or not, have legitimately gotten me to enjoy characters I hated before, based on interesting interactions unique to them alone. So while Kiyo and Angie's (they're making out btw) ingame dynamic and dialogues aren't REALLY what my sick and twisted mind views them as, it's worth noting that my honest belief and interpretation of the two of them could even give me a sliver of that dynamic being possible .......... means she's fuckin slay ............ it means love wins..... It means Vote For Yonaga 2024

Cpuld u tell me a bit a Caligula effect? I keep seeing u talk abt it and I'm intrigued .. also music ? It's a music media (?)
Hi! I'm glad i got you interested in this series ^^ The Caligula Effect is a videogame series, written by Takuya Yamanaka, who's more famous for also being the writer behind Milgram. The plot, at least in the first game is that it's about this virtual reality called Mobius where people can go to fulfill their deepest wishes, this world was created by the virtuadolls µ and Aria to make humans happy. Virutadolls are basically in universe vocaloids. In this world everyone is turned into high school students and they will never age and will repeat high school for as long as they're here. A group of students realizes this world is fake and decide to escape and go back to reality, hence why they call themselves the Go-Home Club. At the same time there's the Ostinato Musicians, a group of people who are aware of Mobius being fake but they want to stay and keep Mobius as it is for their own reasons so they work with µ to stop the Go-Home Club.
That's how the main story goes. But the games also have something called Character Scenarios. These work like the social links in persona though less complicated to unlock. These are important because this is pretty much where you'll learn everything about the characters, something that both games do is that you don't actually get to learn much from them during the mains story. Like you do learn mostly about their views and personalities but you never truly learn about their backstories or why they're here in the first place. That's reserved for the scenarios, this is where you truly learn about these characters and what their problems are. And these are honestly the best part of the game imo.
Another important thing to clarify is that the first game has a remake Caligula Effect Overdose, which adds four new characters, two in each group and also has the musician route. This is a new path in the main story where you get to play as a musician, so after every two dungeons or so there will be segments where you play as a one with the other musicians as your party members, this also gives the musicians their own character scenarios which is great to fully flesh them out and make you sympathize better with them. The remake is the one you should go for since is the most complete.
Some warnings about it tho, the second and third dungeons can be pretty uncomfortable and hard to get through. The second one because the musician here is canonically a trans woman and she's not exactly treated super well during the main story since she's constantly misgendered, deadnamed and experiences fatphobic comments even after her dungeon's done. This wouldn't be so bad since you know it shows how even the people you're sided with can be assholes and be terrible. But after a certain point it becomes tiring and annoying and many of the scenes depicting this have an almost mocking tone. Her character is great though and i love her scenario and the things it discusses, but again the way she's treated in the main story makes the first part of the game hard to get through. As for the third musician he uhh is a creep, and you see him trying and succeeding at peeping on other women during the game. Yeah, it's not good obviously. These two asoects really make the first part of the game hard to get through and honestly a lot of my problems with the game come from these two. I do think everything afterwards is good though. If you want some further warnings you can check out the doesthedogdie page.
Now that was all for the first game, but there's also a second game, and honestly i'm gonna be honest i have a lot of problems with the first game but if there's any reason why i'd recommend it is so you can play the second game, because imo it's better than the first one but i don't think you should jump straight into that one because a lot of the game's plot is built on the first one's and it's just better if you understand all the things they're referencing, a character from the first game even returns. Kinda follows the same formula as the first one, virtual reality, group of people trying to escape, musicians trying to stop them, but i think it pulls it off a lot better. But again you do need to know the events in the first game to understand it better.
Oh yeah you mentioned music, it's not a music based series as like, let's say Milgram is but music is a big part of it because virtuadolls are a big part in the series and again they're just vocaloids. The soundtrack is awesome and the game uses it in a very creative way. Each dungeon has it's own theme, written in universe by the musician in that dungeon, and all the songs are sung by the the main virtuadoll in each game (µ in the first one and Regret in the second one), with the lyrics being personal to each musician. The way it works in gameplay is that when exploring the dungeon, an instrumental version of the song plays, when entering a battle the vocals start playing, and when facing against the boss a remix version of the song plays. It's so good to hear during gameplay and it never gets tiring, and again all the songs are bangers. AND to keep up with the vocaloid feel, each song in both games was composed by a vocaloid producer. And if you're curious yes, Deco27 also worked here, and this is how he and Yamanaka met.
If you're interested in getting into it, let me know so i can send you the playthroughs i watched if you can't or don't feel playing it.

why is Nora so popular with most of the fandom? (I've not really watched new gen so far. I just remember people being annoyed it started with a white girl as the main)
oh god yeah i remember how disappointed i was at first and now nora has grown on me so much, turns out nora is genuinely a really well-written character and mina plays her really well and charismatically. i feel like yeah it would have totally sucked if nora was surrounded by just another group of white friends and one token poc but in the new gen's case (at least the people raquel cast) it feels more like token white people, like every white person is white for a reason (consti bc he is a white boy asshole, zoe and nora because they're kiki's sisters, mailin because of a s6 storyline) and not the other way around, like the default was casting poc instead of white people
but back to nora: i think what i, as someone who has watched and loved the og druck and skam, thought was super interesting about nora is that she was a hybrid of kiki and an Even version but in a way that felt super realistic and natural and not forced, like she was kiki's sister and you could tell they had a similar childhood, they both tend to be emotional and blunt and opinionated but while kiki came off as insecure nora is quite self-assured and a little more cocky (her Even traits). she is extremely loyal and kind, the way she so quickly became friends with ava, fatou and mailin was really amazing to see, like watching these girls start to fall in platonic love really made me love nora a lot because you could see how fast she was able to care so deeply for her new friends. yet she isn't like i'm sorry to say it eg. sascha who comes off as a very cardbox perfectly kind pushover character, like i said nora is opinionated, she can - again reminder of kiki - put her foot in her mouth a lot, she can be selfish and petty especially with zoe, she has flaws but all of them are believable and none of them made her unlikable overall
and i guess another reason is her story was written absolutely wonderfully, i don't think anyone expected nora's season to be this good, after two other skam versions tried original seasons and both failed miserably it was so refreshing to watch an original season that was just planned and executed with so much care and love, so it's really easy to love nora when really there isn't much not to love about her
tl;dr i highly highly recommend checking out druck ng, especially s5 and 6 (verdict is still out on s7), they've managed to create so many wonderfully multi-dimensional characters that you can't help but love

Spring Anime 2021: Embarrassment of Riches
So this current anime season absolutely stinks, which just makes the last one look even more impressive. Well, maybe not all of it...
Zombieland Saga Revenge
Tumblr media
First off, you don't need to tell me that the following is a severe outlier opinion. We good? Ok. ZLSR is, in a word, subpar. I liked S1 back in the day, but it was already in the process of getting lazy towards the end. S2 continues this trend and is basically just another idol show. And as someone who actually does watch other idol shows I have to say that it's not a particularly good one of those either. The zombie gimmick has mostly stopped mattering and we're just doing what every idol show does, only with the odd occasional sight gag. The alleged subversive qualities mostly amount to a flashback for Yuugiri, which is admittedly the best part of the show but feels like it barely has anything to do with anything. Apart from that, it's a bunch of generic idol plots, rehashed character beats, shoddy attempts at twists (while not connecting to any setups from S1), and the obligatory "idols give us hope" ending, which is terribly hackneyed and flat out bad. Tae gets further memed into the ground, because of course she does. And there's stuff that was simply never good to begin with, like Kotarou and his comedy schtick, which gets truly insufferable now that there's no qualities to distract from it. It really makes me think that S1 wasn't even all that good to begin with and seems like an attempt to turn this surprise success into an easy money longrunner with no edge and no ambitions. "The idol show for people who don't watch idol shows" indeed, but not the way you mean it. 4/10
Bakuten
Tumblr media
But not to dwell on the failures, with the second show we're already above the cut — barely. This one got my attention with its really impressive performance scenes early on and it totally sticks to that, which is even more impressive. But besides that? Well, this is by far the most predictable show in a season where I watched an unambitious Kiraralike and put ZLS on blast for having no ideas. The characters are a mixed bag, some are cool (Shida, Asawo), some are very annoying (Mashiro), but those are the supports. The main cast is extremely one-dimensional, which is fine until they try to heap a ton of pathos on their lead, which doesn't go well. But I guess execution matters, and Bakuten is slick enough to get by. Writing this down in stark daylight I feel like I overrated this show somewhat (I actually put it over the next one originally, which definitely doesn't hold up when thinking about it), but I was indeed mostly entertained. 6/10
Yakunara Mug Cup mo
Tumblr media
Yeah. Of course Mug Cup definitely doesn't invent or subvert anything either, but it's a pretty good Kiraralike that's always entertaining to watch. Explaining the qualities of such a nothing genre is as difficult as ever, but it mostly comes down to me liking the characters and it having nothing to annoy me. It's shorter than normal, which is a plus for slim shows like this. And yeah, you can make an excessive amount of dick jokes with the clay fondling. That helps too. Looks are just fine, pleasant but nothing out of the ordinary. Comfy low-effort anime. 6/10
Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song
Tumblr media
This one is decent, but sadly still a major letdown. Because the first few episodes of Vivy were excellent and kicked ass, but then it became increasingly clear that the writing can't cash the checks the ideas wrote while the action starts running into severely diminishing returns. Vivy just keeps slowly getting worse and worse as it goes on, not by a huge amount each episode but by the end there's a pretty sizeable gulf between potential and result. Going into detail would probably be a little much for this venue because there's a lot, but from the top level view the issue is that while Vivy has good fundamental ideas and steals at the right places, it just isn't a smart show — it's schlock, and by the end, poorly thought out schlock that tries to smooth out every problem with liberal application of the big feels hammer and le epic twist at that. Yeah, couldn't tell that the Re:Zero dude was aboard here, for sure. That said, it still works pretty well as entertaining schlock that is not to be taken too seriously, and the characters are generally just very fun to watch even when they're doing stupid things. Still, I can't in good conscience rate this higher than Beatless, a show that looks like butt but properly executes on its ideas. 6/10
Super Cub
Tumblr media
So this is 100% a Honda commercial, and I got really mad a Yuru Camp last season for being a blatant shill. Yet I'm feeling this, what gives? I think the main difference is that Super Cub is specifically a commercial for one product (and a very iconic product at that), while Yuru Camp is so all over the place that it ends up mostly a commercial for consumerism in general. And when Super Cub goes too hard on the product (which it does), it's at least pretty entertaining. That's something about Super Cub in general: It goes hard. Your regular Kiraralike this is not, because it's uncommonly slow, focused and moody - yes, it almost measures up to Yuru Camp at its best and demolishes it at its worst. Also, it's just extremely amusing to see sadblob Koguma grow a huge grizzly biker beard and become a badass outlaw dad to her goofy wife and cute daughter, all thanks to the power of afforable personal transportation. Needless to say, that can get unintentionally silly, but Super Cub has so much charm that it doesn't matter — it's great when it's good and still funny when it's not. 7/10
Shadows House
Tumblr media
Shadows House turned up with a lot of potential, and I have to say it at least delivered on most of it. It has some problems; notably I'm not a fan of how the entire middle turned out to be a tournament arc of sorts that seems curiously inspired by Resident Evil memes, crest-shaped intentations and boulder punching included. I also think that this is a show that would be perfectly fine without explaining much, but I guess it is a shounen manga after all so we got dumped on eventually anyway. At least that came late - close relative Promised Neverland didn't show that much restraint. Shadows House is generally well written though, with great characters, interesting interactions and a great hook. But what really makes it memorable is that it's exceptionally good at the cute/creepy contrast, something that is often tried but rarely works as well as here, with great character designs and very appropriate production. I hope this gets a sequel, because it seems like it's just getting started. 7/10
SSSS.Dynazenon
Tumblr media
Coming in with a fondness for Gridman, Dynazenon didn't have to do much to convince me. The surprise though is that it's not a rehash even if it's basically the same show, a character drama where occasionally huge and goofy fights break out. Dynazenon is Gridman done better, and the interesting part is how it accomplishes this - mainly by being far more conventional. I do appreciate that Gridman went for something weird and almost experimental, but that only really paid off towards the end while most of the show was a distraction/holding pattern. It just didn't feel like there was enough material for a full series there, more like a movie maybe, if even that. Dynazenon fixes this by just being a TV show, with an actual cast of characters that each have their own arc. And by spreading the material this way, Dynazenon ends up having a lot more nuance than its intensely focused predecessor, while having the same themes and not actually being any deeper. In a way, Gridman ends up looking like the spinoff in retrospect, while Dynazenon is the full package. 8/10
Thunderbolt Fantasy S3
Tumblr media
So how good was this season? So good that Thunderbolt Fantasy doesn't end up at the top, that's how. And all the elements that made Tbolt such a sure thing are still there, big hammy puppets doing stunts and scheming never gets old. However, I do have to note that at this point, the writing appears to have gotten too comfortable. I don't expect it to ever top the amazing S1 ending, but at this point it's like Tbolt has stopped trying to deliver on endings at all and seems in the process of retooling itself into a longrunner instead. Barely anything gets resolved in S3 (the climax is that the climax of S2 is resolved again, for good this time... maybe), and everything else is just setting up plotpoints for the next season. Tbolt is truly lucky that it doesn't actually need to resolve anything to be a great time, but at this point I have to say that I'd appreciate it if they wrapped it up with S4. 8/10
Nomad: Megalobox 2
Tumblr media
Speaking of sequels to shows I liked, Nomad doesn't so much improve upon its predecessor but steamrolls right over it. This is a tall order, since Megalobox was surprisingly good for a sports shounen and had a real nice, heartwarming ending that Nomad instantly negates for purposes of drama and everyone being extremely miserable. That sounds like a pretty terrible idea - and it would be, if Nomad wasn't as excellent as it is. To call it not the same show would be an understatement, because it's a true sequel, not just the same characters doing their thing some more, or new characters doing the same thing as the old ones did. Indeed my biggest problem with Megalobox was that it still closely adhered to its genre template and was very predictable; Nomad fixes this issue thoroughly. Nomad is about questioning what being a hotblooded shounen protagonist eventually leads you to, and how to fix everything you screwed up by being one. You could call it a deconstruction, but that term has been so abused for cynical, edgy "thing you like actually sucks" takes that I feel like it doesn't really fit here. Nomad isn't cynical at all, it's just a character drama about some boxers past their prime, and it being a sequel to a show that is indeed rather formulaic just enhances the experience. My biggest issue with it was that I really like what they did with Joe in this story, so the big focus on Mac's backstory felt like a distraction for a long time. But in the end that turned out to be absolutely necessary to make the ending work. The ending's just great, by the way, and I shall say not more about it. 9/10
Odd Taxi
Tumblr media
Yeah boy, here's the show that has apparently become somewhat of a "greatest show you didn't watch" meme, which I can feel smug about because I don't need YouTubers to tell me what's good and followed this from day one. Anyway, Odd Taxi is indeed great, the greatest show in a few years even. What starts out as seemingly a relaxed hangout show in the vein of Midnight Diners quickly turns into a psychological murder mystery while never losing its quirky humor. The character writing is outstanding, with even small bit players being on a level that the average anime wishes it could have for leads. And the rollout of the mystery is exemplary, with answers given and new questions raised every episode with a satisfying and logical payoff in the end. This is also the rare anime that has rock solid production from the first to the last second; it's never really flashy but excellently done and highly consistent nonetheless. And the music just owns. I have a few complaints, mainly that there's a few logical weaknesses in the story (which wouldn't even register in a lesser show, but sticks out here since the rest is so immaculately constructed) and that the ending overextends on the emotions when the rest of the show is so reserved and dry in comparison. But those are only the reasons why I didn't give it perfect marks, and I almost did that anyway. 9/10

CHAPTER EIGHT
The Lunch Visit
checklist masterlist
The next day at school you find your usual seat beside your silver-haired acquaintance. Although, you do your best to avoid any form of interaction with him, not knowing what you would say anyway after last night. You can't help but feel awkward over waiting on him and his friends the night before, not to mention the extra tip he gave you.
Soon, a paper lands on your desk. You recognize it as the quiz you previously took. Gazing over at the red score on your paper, you see a fat C- written on top.
At least I passed, you sigh to yourself.
You then look over at the boy beside you and find an A- written on his page. Your eyes widen as you see the score.
How the hell did he pull that off? Maybe he is smart.
Another sigh rings from your ears, yet it's not your own. You look up to find that you've caught the attention of the one person you wish you hadn't. He shakes his head as he gazes down at your paper.
"So much for that solid C, eh?"
You cross your arms and narrow your eyes as you try to decipher whether he's being rude or not. "What's that supposed to mean?" you ask.
"Nothing," he shrugs, "but if you want, I happen to know someone who tutors." He then gets up to throw something away.
I can't tell whether he's super mean or super nice. Either way, there's something about him that makes him hard to stop thinking about... Wait, was he referring to himself as a tutor? Why would he want to tutor me?
You spend the remainder of the class pondering these ideas as you continue to block out whatever your teacher had been lecturing about.
Then, after class, Mayumi and Satsuki come to your class to eat with you. Although it wasn't something the three of you did, you don't question it for a while.
"I brought lunch for you two today," Satsuki grins as she pulls out a small container for you and Mayumi.
"No way, no way! Thank you so much, Satsuki!" Mayumi begins to thank her profusely.
The two of you open up the specially made containers and find rice and steamed vegetables inside. Your eyes widen at the delicious-looking meal. "Wow, Satsuki," you say as your mouth begins to water, "this looks amazing!"
As you begin to eat your food, you catch Mayumi nudge Satsuki and nod to something behind you. You subtly glance up at them as they look past you.
Turning around, you see your annoying classmate eating with two others you saw him with yesterday at the restaurant.
The ones who needed menus...
You turn back around to your friends and see that they're back to eating their food.
"What were you guys looking at?" you feign confusion.
Mayumi shrugs. "Nothing, you're just lucky that you're in class with a bunch of cute guys," she says with her mouth half full.
Your face heats up as you see through what Mayumi's saying. "Yeah, it's all I think about," you say sarcastically.
Mayumi sticks her tongue out at you playfully. "That explains your grades," she teases.
"Mayu!" you gasp, "You-"
"Okay, settle down you two," Satsuki interrupts you. "Y/N, it's really nothing to worry about."
"Thank you," you say between bites of food. "And if you're interested in what Mayumi told you about that grey-haired annoyance, there's nothing to know. Whatever she told you is probably a dramaticization of the truth."
"Heyyy!" Mayumi defends herself.
"You're probably right," Satsuki chuckles, "but I'm glad you found a new friend anyway."
You roll your eyes. "For what? Two months? That hardly sounds like a friend- I wouldn't even call him my friend," you huff, "Just someone who keeps me less bored in class sometimes."
"Isn't that what friends do?" Mayumi grins, "Ya know, entertain each other?"
"That's not always true," you argue your case, "people can be entertaining, but you can still not like them."
"What?!" Mayumi asks confusedly.
You cross your arms and think of an example to better explain. "Like when my parents yell about meaningless crap to each other. It makes me laugh at their stupidity, but it doesn't mean I like to be there or be near them."
"Poor Y/N," Mayumi rubs your back. "You poor thing with your family issues."
"You're one to tal- Ouch!" you squirm out of her touch.
Your two friends look at you with confusion and Mayumi pulls her arm away from you hurriedly.
"S-sorry..." she mumbles.
"Is your back okay?" Satsuki chimes in.
"Y-yeah, fine. I probably just strained it last night somehow. Don't worry about it."
"Okay," they both try to smile before turning back to their lunches.
The rest of the lunch was quiet amongst the three of you as you finish eating. Once lunch was over, you find yourself alone with your thoughts again.
"Hey Y/N," the kid beside you hums, "about last night... please don't think anything of it. I could tell you felt uncomfortable waiting on us and wanted to thank you. That's all."
"O-oh," you look away from him. "Sure, but I didn't think anything bad of it," you lie.
"I'm glad," he smiles. "So you're new there?"
"Eh? How'd you know?"
"It's kinda my team's go-to spot after our games," he says as he rubs his neck. "I've seen your friend there before, but not you."
Mayumi made it sound like she didn't see them often... I'm going to kill that girl.
"Volleyball, right?" you ask as you remember seeing him walk into the gym.
"Yep," he nods, "We're actually pretty good this year if I say so myself. Our game was televised last night."
"Televised?" you think back to how your dad was watching a game before you came home last night, "D-did you win?"
"Mhm... Although I didn't get much playtime," he admits deflatedly.
"Aren't older students on the starting-"
"Yeah," he waves off the comment, "but I let someone else fill my role."
"Got it..." your words trail off as you move away from the touchy subject. "So, uh, anyway-" your sentence is then interrupted by the bell.
"Don't worry about it," he smiles sweetly as he grabs his bag, "I've got practice now, but I'll talk to you later."
"Suga!" someone with a high-pitched voice calls from behind, stealing the attention of whom you were talking to.
Suga! That's it! You sigh as you finally remember his name.
"Bye, Y/N!" Suga calls as he runs to the door.
You wave and see him approach a short, orange-haired boy before disappearing from view.

—A fem!MC that fangirls over anime/otome game characters
—WC; 1k
—A/N: First of, sorry for the inactivity for the last 2 days but here is a thank you for 300 followers! ily all sm, and I tried to pick anime/otome game boys that kinda have the same personality as them? So hopefully that was okay
Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥Your husbando: Jumin Han
➷He looks at you as if you're literally deranged when you squeal at your phone
➷Can you be anymore annoying? You're literally talking to your phone as if someone was calling you.. oh shit someone was
➷He didn't know that it was a game okay! He was just listening in on the convo not really knowing what the guy was saying as it was in Korean
❝MC, who's that?❞
➷You start fangirling and roll all over his bed, hugging your phone, totally ignoring Lucifer, okay it was starting to annoy the hell out of him
➷You better stop or he'll bring out the red ribbon ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
❝It's nothing, just Jumin~❞
❝Who?❞
➷He'll have to confiscate your phone, he is not having any of that today, no sir. And if you disobey? It's the red ribbon for you kitten~
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; 707/Saeyoung
➷You're into jokesters? We'll get ready cause every group chat will be filled with Mammon's attempts of jokes that just ends up being super corny
➷ *Lucifer has left the chat*
➷Insecurities will start to creep up to him, is this your ideal type? Does he not meet the standard?
➷You'll have to convince him that No! You are enough! And you're just playing it for fun
❝Huh?! The great Mammon doesn't need reassurance! I already know you wouldn't leave me, I mean who would? You won't right?❞
➷Yeah, you would tell him that Mammon reminds you of 707 that's the reason why, and he'd be over the moon cause even with a fictional guy the person you think of is him!!
➷He'll still send you jokes and try to make you laugh tho! He's the only one who can do that, no 707 or other fictional characters
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; Levi Ackerman
❝Levi! You're so hot!❞
➷He'll blush cause he thinks it's him you were talking about, as he was gonna reply he turned around to you kissing the screen
➷With an anime character in the screen, he immediately recognizes it as Levi from AOT, he rolls his eyes as he sighs
❝Next time can you say their last name too? I'll get confused❞
➷He'll start sulking cause he really thought you were talking about him!! Say sorry >:(
❝Ahh, but Levi you're hot too~❞
➷You'd wrap your arms around him, peppering his face with kisses, he would blush but turn his face away
❝Hmph, you mean the other Levi
➷Jealousy cranked up to 1000, he thought he was the only Levi for you!
➷So with a lot of consultation and cuddles he'll forgive you, but whenever he sees Levi on the screen, he'll just scoff and look away cause MC likes him and only him
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; Bakugou Katsuki
➷You have a type for hot heads don't you? Is one hot head not enough?
➷Doesn't understand your attachment to these drawings, but vibes with it nonetheless
❝I don't get it, he's a blond angry boy? Me? It's like me? Y–You got me there❞
➷He finds Bakugou's screaming and constant swearing unbearable and just wants to shut him up, but his quirk to him was interesting, sweat that's explosive? That's hella cool
➷Would spend time watching the anime for 'experiments' but honestly he's just looking for what Bakugou has that he doesn't, surely not looks
➷It's quite adorable seeing passed out Satan with the TV still turned on, on the table he'd have a notebook open, 'Satan VS Bakugou' was written, what a dork
➷You'd kiss his forehead, thinking he was asleep but he just pulls your wrist to lay in the couch with him
❝Say I'm better than Bakugou MC then I'll let go❞
❝You're way better than Bakugou❞
❝Good girl, just kidding I'm not letting go, you're stuck here with me❞
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; Oikawa Tooru
➷You're calling another guy pretty? It should be him only! Would not stand for this slander
➷If he catches you watching Haikyuu and sees you fangirling about Oikawa, he will roast him, no mercy
❝He's not even perfect! Look he has no cake, how absurd❞
➷Would list off why Oikawa is not fit for you, mostly saying you're out of his league and you're better with him
❝Asmo, don't worry, they're just drawings besides you're right here with me❞
➷He's not the avatar of pride but he is very prideful with just that sentence, okay maybe Oikawa is pretty
➷After a while he'll be the one fanboying about Oikawa or any other Haikyuu character, you're not jealous or anything cause at least he knows how you feel
❝MC! Akaashi's super pretty too! Oh my! Also Kageyama!❞
❝He likes my diamonds and pearls, I said thank you I designed it ❞
➷Is what you'd say when one of the brother's ask why Asmo is fanboying over anime characters
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; Tamaki Amajiki
➷He thinks that his quirk is cool, whatever he eats gets to be superpower
➷He wants to have that kind of power too 🥺
➷He would watch BNHA with you cause it seemed interesting, his second favourite would be FatGum
❝So if Tamaki eats chicken wings, he'll gain wings? That's cool❞
➷He doesn't mind when you compliment Tamaki, he thinks it's quite cute actually
➷He has a soft spot for you that's why 😌
➷He usually eats whenever you two have a binge watching night, I mean what else should he be doing?
➷ (Sorry Beel's is so short ;;)
Tumblr media
❥Your husbando; Todoroki Shouto
➷Another edge lord captured your heart?
➷Not in his watch nope. He would say things like
❝Wow, he doesn't even look that good that half and half hair looks stupid, and he has a grudge on his dad? Sounds like someone I know❞
➷You explain you like the quiet and mysterious type of guys, and he'll stay quiet, if that's your type then so be it
➷But do you really have to compliment Todoroki right in front of your boyfriend?? Are you trying to get a reaction out of him?
➷He'd rather sleep with you y'know, not waste energy on watching anime like Leviathan
➷He would cling on you at bed and try to make you sleep but you had to much energy, and he hates when you ignore him whenever Todoroki was on screen
➷He'll shut the TV off so quick, his mouth forming a small pout, you knew if you kept ignoring him he'll start ignoring you
➷So you gave in, knowing you'll just have to watch later, and dove right into Belphie's arms, which he gladly enveloped you into
❝Don't ignore me like that again, I'm way more important than that Todoroki guy❞

Ranking Lady Gaga's albums, from worst to best
Tumblr media
Being a Lady Gaga fan can be an exercise in frustration.
Gaga is far more ambitious than most popstars — I doubt we’ll ever see Ariana Grande or Ed Sheeran make an album as left-field as Born This Way or ARTPOP. But she's also far less consistent, with numerous misbegotten projects.
Gaga's undeniably successful, with five #1 hits, an Oscar and multiple iconic music videos to her name. But her messy album rollouts and tradition of underperforming lead singles make her feel like an underdog compared to the more polished, precise careers of her contemporaries like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or Bruno Mars.
Gaga is kind of a mess. But she's our mess. This album ranking will cover some records I can't stand — albums that make me constantly hit the fast-forward button, or albums I ignore altogether. But there isn't a single record on here that wasn't a bold move. Even the "back to basics" albums made strong aesthetic choices.
So let's dive into the career of the most fascinating Millennial popstar.
Tumblr media
#8: Cheek To Cheek (2014)
This really shouldn't count. It's a Lady Gaga album in name only. But, technically it's a Gaga album, so here we are.
I've got nothing against Gaga having fun playing Rat Pack-era dress-up with Tony Bennett. She's a theatre kid at heart, and I'm sure every theatre kid would kill to make a Great American Songbook covers record like this. It sounds like she and Tony enjoyed themselves, so I'm happy for them!
...but I'm sorry. I can't be objective about Cheek To Cheek, it's the opposite of my taste. There's only so many bland lounge ballads I can take.
BEST SONGS: I have to pick one? "Anything Goes" is cute, I guess.
WORST SONG: "Sophisticated Lady"
Tumblr media
#7: A Star Is Born (2018)
Let me first make this clear — A Star Is Born, the movie starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga? It's a masterpiece. It's electrifying and tragic and I'm still upset it didn't sweep the Oscars that year. There's even a cute dog! You won't hear me say a bad word about it.
But A Star Is Born, the accompanying soundtrack? It's extremely hit-and-miss.
Yes, it includes arguably Gaga's best-ever song and one of the greatest movie hits ever written, "Shallow." And there's plenty of other great tunes in the tracklist too — "Always Remember Us This Way," "I'll Never Love Again," the "La Vie En Rose" cover.
Even the country-rock songs from Bradley Cooper (who, reminder, is not a professional singer) are mostly good! "Black Eyes" RIPS, and "Maybe It's Time" feels like a long-lost classic.
But sadly, there are so many mediocre filler tracks on this thing. The second half of A Star Is Born's hour-plus runtime (Gaga's longest!) is padded with generic songs like "Look What I've Found," "Heal Me" and "I Don't Know What Love Is." The only good one out of the bunch is the silly, intentionally-bad "Why Did You Do That?"
In the movie, these filler tracks serve a point – they're meant to show Gaga's character selling out. They work in the movie when you hear them for a few seconds and see Cooper make a drunkly disappointed scowl. But I don't want to listen to them, and sadly, they make up half the album.
In other words — A Star Is Born would've made an incredible six or seven-song EP. But as an 63-minute-long record? It's a slog.
BEST SONGS: "Shallow", "Always Remember Us This Way," "Maybe It's Time"
WORST SONG: "Heal Me"
Tumblr media
#6: Joanne (2016)
After Born This Way and ARTPOP, I get why Gaga needed to make a more lowkey, back-to-basics album. I also understand that many of these songs have extremely personal lyrics for her.
But is a down-to-earth album what I really want from our most outré popstar? Not really.
Luckily, Joanne is better than that description suggests. Yes, there are some bland acoustic ballads and awkward hippie-era throwbacks (two styles that are really not in Gaga's wheelhouse), but there's also some Springsteen-style heartland rockers! And those go hard in the paint.
Joanne works best when Gaga works the record's dusty aesthetics into her brand of weirdo pop, like on the sizzling "John Wayne," the winking "A-YO" or the delightfully extra Florence Welch duet "Hey Girl."
The record also has "Perfect Illusion" — a glorious red herring of a lead single that sounds nothing like anything else on Joanne. It's a roided-up mixture of woozy Tame Impala production and hair metal histrionics, and it rules. It might be Gaga's best-ever lead single! (at the very least, it's her most underrated.)
And there is one slow tune that's unambiguously great: "Million Reasons," another solid Gaga lighters-in-the-air power ballad pastiche.
Despite what some Little Monsters may tell you, Joanne isn't a disaster. There's some great stuff in there, and even the worst songs are just forgettable. But it's still far from her best.
BEST SONGS: "Perfect Illusion," "Diamond Heart," "Million Reasons"
WORST SONG: "Come To Mama"
Tumblr media
#5: Chromatica (2020)
When Chromatica was released near the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it had been seven years since Gaga had released music in her classic gonzo-synthpop vein. I can easily picture the record serving as an "ugh fine, I'll give you what you want" response to the many Little Monsters annoyed with Gaga's half-decade of folksy ballads and Julie Andrews cosplay.
I'll say this about Chromatica — outside of The Fame Monster, it's her most consistent record. There's not a single track that's a glaring mistake. And the three singles — "Stupid Love," "911" and the triumphant Ariana Grande duet "Rain On Me" — easily stand among her best tracks.
But although "all bangers, no ballads" album sounds rad in theory, it doesn't really succeed in practice. Chromatica is solid, but it's also a very same-y record. It feels like Gaga had one really great idea for the album ('90s club music with super-depressing lyrics) and repeated it over and over and over again to diminishing results.
There are some songs that are able to separate themselves: the three singles, of course, as well as the goofy "Babylon" and "Sine From Above," the Elton John duet that's the closest Chromatica gets to a ballad. But by the end of the album, you feel more worn out than electrified.
Also — and this is probably unfair, but still — Chromatica came out just a couple months after another retro-dance blockbuster pop album: Dua Lipa's magnum opus, Future Nostalgia. That's not a flattering comparison.
BEST SONGS: "Rain On Me," "Stupid Love," "911"
WORST SONG: "1000 Doves"
Tumblr media
#4: The Fame (2008)
Out of all of Gaga's records, The Fame is most like a time capsule. It REEKS of late '00s/early '10s pop — which isn't an entirely fair criticism, seeing as Gaga popularized that era's sleazy, synthy aesthetic. It's also not a bad thing! I don't mind a little nostalgia!
As you already know, The Fame's singles are masterworks. "Just Dance," "Poker Face," "Paparazzi" — these tracks have titanic legacies for good reason. And although it's probably the least-beloved of this album's hits, despite being a total banger, "LoveGame" should still be commended for having arguably the most Gaga lyric ever (you know, the "disco stick" line).
And even though those tracks are front-loaded on The Fame, there are some gems deeper in the tracklist. "Summerboy" is basically Gwen Stefani covering The Strokes (so obviously, it's great). "Eh, Eh" is adorable. "Starstruck" is the most 2008 song ever recorded, with aggressive Auto-Tune and Flo Rida showing up to make Starbucks jokes.
Sadly, The Fame still feels like Gaga before she became fully-formed at certain points. The back half has a number of songs that feel like generic club tracks forced by the label, and "Paper Gangsta" is one of the clunkiest songs in Gaga's catalogue.
But at the very least, the bad songs on The Fame at least serve as little nostalgia bombs for that era of pop. And the best songs are untouchable classics.
BEST SONGS: "Paparazzi," "Just Dance," "Summerboy"
WORST SONG: "Paper Gangsta"
Tumblr media
#3: ARTPOP (2013)
For much of Gaga's career, she's been ahead of the curve. She tries something, and a year or a few years later, other popstars try something similar to diminishing results.
That doesn't just apply to the successful stuff, like Gaga's extravagant music videos inspiring many copycats from 2010-2013. It also applies to the mid-late '10s trend of legacy popstars making a controversial record with risky aesthetic or lyrical choices that backfired: reputation. Witness. Man of The Woods.
Gaga did this first, with ARTPOP — arguably the most abrasive, and bizzare major label album released by a major modern popstar. And she did it better, because unlike Swift, Perry and Timberlake, Gaga's weirdness was for real. And it was in service of some prime, hyper-aggressive bangers.
ARTPOP isn't Gaga's best work — some of her experiments on it are major misfires, from the obnoxious "Mary Jane Holland" to the bland Born This Way leftover (and Romani slur-utilizing) "Gypsy."
But when ARTPOP is on, it's ON. The opening stretch in particular, from "Aura" to "Venus" to "G.U.Y." to "Sexxx Dreams," is chaotic synthpop at its finest. Those songs took Gaga's classic sound to an apocalyptic, demented extreme, and they're fantastic.
"MANiCURE" is a great glam-rock banger, "Dope" is another classic Gaga piano ballad, the title track is some sikly-smooth dreampop; even the misguided, clunky trap anthem "Jewels N' Drugs" is bad in a hilarious, charming way!
Trust me: ARTPOP will go down in history not as a flop, but as a gutsy, underrated record from a legend. Less Witness, more In Utero.
BEST SONGS: "G.U.Y.," "Venus," "Sexxx Dreams"
WORST SONG: "Gypsy"
Tumblr media
#2: The Fame Monster (2009)
Objectively speaking, this is probably the best Gaga album.
It's her one record with no fluff, no filler — only 34 minutes and 8 tracks, all of them stellar.
It's the record that took Gaga from "wow, this new woman is a fresh new face in pop!" to "this woman IS pop."
It's the record with her signature track, "Bad Romance," which was accompanied by arguably the greatest music video of the 21st Century. (It also has my absolute favorite Gaga track, the relentlessly catchy "Telephone.")
I don't think I need to explain what makes mega-smashes "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" and "Alejandro" great, nor the accompanying legendary deep cuts "Speechless" and "Dance In The Dark." They speak for themselves.
However — the sleek, calculated perfection of The Fame Monster, while incredible, isn't something I return to often. It's just not the side of Gaga that's my favorite. That honor would have to go to...
BEST SONGS: "Telephone," "Dance In The Dark," "Bad Romance"
WORST SONG: "So Happy I Could Die" (but it's still pretty solid)
Tumblr media
#1: Born This Way (2011)
One of my favorite podcasts is Blank Check. The concept of the show is to analyze each movie by a famous director — in particular, those who had big success early on and then got a blank check to make whatever crazy passion project they wanted. Here's a great example: because Batman was a massive hit, Tim Burton got to make whatever Hot Topic-core movies he wanted to for decades, from Edward Scissorhands to a creepy Willy Wonka remake.
That long-winded tangent is just to say: Born This Way was Lady Gaga's blank check. By early 2011, she had conquered the pop universe, notching hit after hit after hit. Every other pop star was copying her quirky music videos. So the label let Gaga do whatever she wanted — and she didn't waste that opportunity.
Born This Way is wildly overproduced. It's both extremely trend-chasing (those synths were cutting edge at the time but charmingly dated now), but also deeply uncaring about what the teens want (I don't think Springsteen and Queen homages were big at the time). And I love every messy, overblown second of it.
From the hair-metal/synthpop hybrid opener "Marry The Night" to the majestic '80s power ballad "The Edge of Glory," Born This Way starts at an 11. And Gaga never takes her foot off the pedal for the album's entire hour-plus run time. Clanging electric guitars, thunderous synths and Clarence Clemons (!!!) sax solos collide into each other as Gaga champions every misfit and loser in the world. It's gloriously corny in the best way possible.
Born This Way is also the perfect middle ground of pop-savvy Gaga and gonzo Gaga. It doesn't go quite as hard as ARTPOP, but the hooks are stronger. And the oddball moments are tons of fun, from the sci-fi biker anthem "Highway Unicorn" to the goofy presidential-sex banger "Government Hooker" ("Put your hands on me/John F. Kennedy" might be the greatest line in pop history).
Born This Way will always be my favorite Gaga album. It's armed with nuclear-grade hooks, slamming beats, and soaring anthems. Although it's not as untouchably pristine as the Mt. Rushmore of '10s pop classics (for the record, that's 1989, EMOTION, Lemonade and, of course, Melodrama), Gaga isn't best served by meticulousness. She's proudly tacky and histrionic, and so that's what makes Born This Way an utter joy.
BEST SONGS: "The Edge of Glory," "You and I," "Marry The Night"
WORST SONG: "Bloody Mary"

hey!
i've seen more of fmab and i can affirm that i love it!! i watch the sub version and i didn't even notice it for hanji's va but i love her too she's SO talented and like, 70% the reason why i love hanji lmao. so far i like most of the characters (they're all so interesting) but i was sad when lust died she was one of my favs.
honestly the chapter hurt in a good way, at least annie can't keep everything for herself anymore. i'm happy you like my "review" because i'm always scared to be irrelevant when i comment on your fics or maybe just annoying but there was so much to talk about in this chapter! and i can't wait for the fluff to come (and more hurt) but also the smut is a very good idea!! smut on a farm sounds hot 👀
also i've seen that you saw the squid game (very good very sad very bitter about ali and sae byeok) and as we've been talking about yelena and annie, in a squid game aot au, do you think they would survive it?
-j
she really is!!! i love romi park she's definitely one of the most iconic anime VAs of all time. i'm glad you're enjoying fma! it's characters are really interesting, i was super into the fandom for a good couple of years when i was 14/15. i 100% agree, i love her and it's upsetting that she's gone so quick. i really like envy too, even though they're a little shit. there's a character that i think you're really going to like that comes in around season 3 i believe? she's the major general in charge of the military fortress in the north & she's an ice queen and a girlboss. my WIFE!!
going off about my baby lust some more because she's a favorite of mine too. in the other version made in 2003, the plotline is different than it is in the manga and she's a major character throughout the anime. in my opinion she's also has the best character arc and her character is even better. fma 03 is super different & a lot darker, a lot of people say really don't like it compared to brotherhood but i personally do. it plays up the horror of the human transmutations a lot more and really really escalates the theme of war.
exactly! now annie will be forced to confront her inner demons. she can't run from her problems forever and it's quickly coming time for her to deal with all the trauma that she's pushed down her whole life. right now she's starting to feel comfortable and at home living in the cottage, but she's never had anything like that before. poor baby doesn't even realize how jarring the transition was from: training fighting war murder genocide hiding lying spying killing more war more murder c r y s t a l p r i s o n even more goddamn war to... reading books and taking care of farm animals? she's pretended like she's okay her whole life because she had to but now she finally has the space to process what happened to her.
your reviews are never annoying! 🥺 please never think that. i very very rarely get people giving me any feedback about how they feel about my fics and it's something that i genuinely crave. as much interaction as i get i so rarely have people tell me they like it beyond "oh that was so sweet!" so the way you add details and tell me the feelings you had during certain scenes, is so wonderful and close to my heart. the only other consistant reviewer i have is @marsbutterfly who is bound by law and our marriage vows to go into the google doc of every single fic i've ever written and leave comments on literally everything thank you baby i love you
SQUID GAME, GOD. (so incredibly good but also so unfair). decided to make another post about this mostly because i already rambled so much in this post and the ask is getting long but i'm putting in in your tag of course

What are your thoughts on the blues? The reds are my otp and I like the greens but I have to confess the blues don't do anything for me. My frustration with this ship stems from people making them "perfect ". They're always the first to get together, stop hating each other early, rarely have turmoil and if they do they get over it quickly. They're written as too cutesy imo. I feel like people think just because bubbles is the sweet one and boomer being her counterpart that means they would get together quickly. It's annoying because the blues can be complex if people bothered to attempt to flesh them out. Bubbles is still a ppg and boomer is still a rrb. Contrary to popular belief and writing they would have difficulties moving forward from enemies to friends then lovers. I really feel the reason they're the least popular of the 3 ships is because they're rarely fleshed out in fics and given obstacles to overcome. Even singular fics focusing on them leave much to be desired. I feel for blues fans because I know they're frustrated with the content for their ship and how it's written. I'm not into the ship and I'm frustrated along with them because Bubbles/Boomer have the potential to be a great ship if people took the time to actually flesh them out. It's not right that the reds get to be complex and so do the greens but the blues...just get to be cute and one dimensional. You and maybe 2 other authors are probably the only ones who actually give them a personality and character. Definitely not trying to bash authors but I do feel as though this a discussion that needs to be had. The blues deserve better and this is coming from a reds fan.
Thanks for this thoughtful ask! I’ve heard this concern before from others, and I also have issues with it generally. I can’t speak to other authors’ intentions and don’t pretend to know their preferences or interpretations, so please keep that in mind for what I am about to say here. I am speaking only for myself.
Based on what I have seen in this fandom and conversations I’ve had with fellow fans, I think there are a few different explanations for the issue you raised, none of which is dispositive.
1) Certain creators may not like Blues as much as other ships, but because Color Code is pretty much expected in most PPG/RRB fics and art, they throw the Blues in there anyway and end up de-prioritizing them. That’s not unexpected, but probably explains the lower effort put into them compared to other ships. It’s side-ship syndrome and you see it across fandoms. Unfortunate, but pretty ubiquitous.
2) There are fandom headcanons regarding ship dynamics and character personalities that appear to be widely accepted, and among those is the lovey/saccharine Blues dynamic. That’s neither good nor bad, but it is pervasive. In concert with 1) above, you have a recipe for a low-effort side-ship that the author/creator isn’t super excited about, and it shows through the recycled tropes that barely reach beyond a skin-deep level of nuance. I suspect that the popularity of high school fics exacerbates this issue at least in part. High schoolers probably are not dealing with experiences such as getting older, questions of marriage/family, careers, debt/finances, and other hazards of adulting that are ripe for interesting dramatic tension and added layers of complexity in a relationship. Again, this is neither good nor bad, just an observation.
3) Separate from 1) and 2), I get the impression that a not insignificant portion of the fandom actively updating fanfic these days is on the young side (teenagers/early 20s) and/or does not have a lot of personal experience with romantic relationships. None of that is bad! Please don’t mistake me, it’s awesome that there are young people creating and contributing, learning and having fun. I encourage and support them; I used to be one myself (and I still have so much to learn and improve on, as we all do). No one can improve without a safe space to practice and learn, and I feel very strongly about contributing to making that space safe and welcoming to creators of all skill levels. The downside of a younger or inexperienced pool of active writers is that it is probably more difficult for those writers to write nuanced, “realistic” relationship dynamics--if they have not lived those experiences themselves (or at least been around long enough to watch them happen to their peers), then how can they possibly be expected to write about them in a story in a believable and honest way? It’s a tall order, and an unfair standard to hold them to. I’m sure some can do it, and my hat’s off to them; they are certainly better writers than I am. But I suspect most cannot. I say that from a place of experience having been there myself. I look back at my fics from like 10 years ago and cringe fondly (what could I have possibly known about adult relationships without ever having been in one myself?).
And that’s not to say teenagers can’t experience meaningful romantic relationships. They absolutely can and do! But when you’re living it in the moment, it becomes hard to take a step back and objectively analyze it as an experience. That really only comes with age and lived experience, which allow you to look back on those times without being emotionally compromised by your personal feelings. You can see the “good” and the “bad” much better in hindsight. And importantly, you have the emotional intelligence and maturity to write about it honestly. What might have seemed romantic at 16 might feel very different at 26 when you factor in experience, worldliness, and cultural/life education that really can only come with age. At least, that has been my experience. (I reiterate that I am only speaking for myself and my journey, not for any other authors.)
All this for my point 3) is to say that the frustrations you have expressed with Blues in some stories coming off as “too cutesy” or being “perfect” or “rarely hav[ing] turmoil” in their relationship are likely due to the fact that at least some of the writers of those stories probably don’t have the life experiences that would adequately prepare them to write a nuanced, complex, romantic relationship. Real life relationships that are “successful” are hard. They are work. Happiness takes so much work when happiness requires another person’s engagement and fulfillment as an equal member of your team. The honeymoon phase is real, but it doesn’t last, and I think that is where some stories miss the mark. I’m all for Blues (or any other ship) to be genuinely happy in love. Who doesn’t like a happy ending? But romantic success isn’t a destination, it’s a never-ending journey with ups and downs. Personally, I’m interested in reading about the ways a ship navigates those ups and downs, and how the characters decide that despite hardships, it’s worth weathering the struggle together because they are happier together than they would be apart.
But that’s so hard to execute! Professional writers, filmmakers, and screenwriters think it’s hard to execute! I have tried to do it myself, and I look back on my recent fics and I’m like okay cool, but we can and should do better next time. It is not easy, and I don’t want to give you the impression that I think I’m amazing at it or that it’s not hard to pull off. That could not be further from the truth, and anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is lying to you. It’s definitely a discussion that should be had in any fandom no matter the shipping preferences. All I can say is that I encourage my fellow writers and creators to keep practicing. We can all do better.

DAZAI OSAMU X READER
In hindsight, you should have realised that running after Dazai was not a good decision on your part...
WORD COUNT: 1.8K words
WARNINGS: mentions of suicide, abuse (not reader's), angst (if you squint), fluffy ending. MILD SPOILERS FOR BUNGO STRAY DOGS SEASON 3
(e/c) - eye color
A/N: sorry if the formatting is a bit wonky!! i'm posting this on mobile because tumblr doesn't work on my stupid, old laptop.
this fic is really super, self-indulgent because dazai is my favorite in bsd and i love when situations like the one in this one shot happen in anime, so i combined the two things and wrote this. this was actually going be a scene in a dazai fic i'm thinking of posting on my wattpad, but i decided to scrap it and write it as a oneshot. i hope you all enjoy reading this!!
Also shoutout to @neonghxst who wanted me to finish this one shot hehe. thanks to her, i got the inspiration to actually write this and finish it.

"Are you sure we should have left him like that?"
You fiddled with the ends of your coat sleeves. Upon hearing about Atsushi's new case and the end result, you immediately wanted to give the boy a hug and never let him go. He had been through so much these past few weeks and hearing about the death of that abusive headmaster of his old orphanage must have been incredibly painful.
But Dazai had promptly pulled you away, after saying exactly what needed to be said. (He always knew what to say in any kind of situation and that made you feel jealous a lot of times)
"Things like that are meant to be dealt with alone. Atsushi-kun will manage," Dazai answered with a cool tone. "You worry too much, (Y/N)-chan."
He tried to ruffle your hair but you slapped his hand away with a huff.
"I have every right to worry, you know," You crossed your arms, angrily staring at the ground. You and Dazai had already left the port area and now were back in the city, walking next to each other. "He and Kyouka just...I just wanna give them both a hug and adopt them as family."
This time, Dazai successfully managed to ruffle your hair."You are very funny, (Y/N)-chan."
"I'm not being funny! I'll actually adopt them, just you wait and see."
"As amusing as that would be, I'm gonna stop you there."
"Why?"
"Well, it's nighttime now. And we are almost near the river. The moon's pretty bright today. Which means one thing and one thing only."
"What, Dazai?"
"It's the perfect time for a double suicide!"
Dazai suddenly grabbed you by the waist and spun you around. You felt your face grow warmer as he kept his hands on your waist, meanwhile going on about the benefits of a double suicide.
"D-dazai! Let go!" You physically tried to struggle out of his grip, knowing that your Ability was useless in this situation. "Just let go, dumbass!"
"Nope, not gonna."
Dazai let go of your waist, but then immediately grabbed your hand. But you managed to pull it away. He stuck his tongue out at you. "You are no fun, (Y/N)-chan."
You glared at him. "How many times do I have to tell you no, you bandage squandering idiot?!"
"Ahh!! You sound so much like Kunikida-kun! Why didn't you tell me you were so great at impersonating others?"
"Huh?! What's that supposed to mean?" You went to shove his shoulder but he dodged it,  jumping aside with his annoying (endearing) laugh. You tried to hit him again, but he dodged this time too and started running.
"Oi, Dazai! Come back here, you idiot!"
You ran too, trying to catch up to him so that you could, at least, flick his forehead before slapping him. Why was he so annoying, you always wondered.
'Isn't this why you like him?' Your heart whispered to you.
'Shut up,' You told it.
You kept on running. Even as you did, the sun had almost set, taking its red and orange hues and replacing it with the dark, navy blue of the night sky. The running brought you to the river bank, a spot where both you and Kunikida had to drag Dazai out of. For some reason, he declared this spot and drowning as his top favorite for a double suicide.
It was incredibly annoying, but at the same time, also incredibly saddening and you wished you knew more about why he was like this.
Finally, you caught up with him.
In hindsight, you should have realised that running after Dazai was not a good decision on your part.
Both of you stumbled down the river bank, holding onto each other because there was nothing else to grab onto. The slant river bank ended and they were on flat ground again.
But...but, both of you were in a rather compromising position.
Usually, you were a pretty confident and self-assured person. But when it came to situations like these (or any romantic situations)…well, you were still pretty inexperienced. So inexperienced actually that you hadn't kissed anyone in a long while, almost two years to be exact. Relationships had always seemed like a waste of time to you, but being in such close proximity of the man you currently yearned for was doing wonders for your heart. (In a good way and a bad away)
Dazai's arms were on your shoulders, pinning you to the ground. He loomed over you, his brown eyes staring right into your (e/c) ones.
You swore you could detect something there before it was hidden behind his mask again.
No longer were you able to keep the warmth away from your face. You knew you probably resembled a tomato right now. You wanted to get out of this position quickly, but deep down, your mind and your heart both resisted. And you felt like agreeing with them this time. You wouldn't get a chance like this ever again.
So you decided to speak.
And immediately regret it.
"Your eyes are pretty," The combined forces of your heart and mind make you say something stupidly embarrassing and you immediately want to cover your face. But you can't. So you continue.
Even the darkness of night couldn't keep the redness of your cheeks hidden.
"I mean, they're not just an ugly brown color. They have this amber-like quality to them. And everytime light hits them, they almost shine and it makes them more beautiful than I ever thought. Like seriously, you have really beautiful eyes. Personally, your eyes are your best feature and they're one of the many reasons I fell for you."
(You wanna crush your own stupid heart for that last bit.)
"Oh?" That was all Dazai said, that stupidly endearing smirk on his face. "Many reasons? What are they again?"
"Um, uh," You hesitated, turning your head to the side. This was more embarrassing than any other situation you had ever been in. There was nowhere else to go and while you could have kicked Dazai away with ease, truth be told you really didn't want to do that. How many chances like this would you ever get? "I don't even know when I started liking you. And maybe it's a stupid thing because nothing is ever going to come out of it, but yeah. I have feelings for you, Dazai Osamu. Truth be told, I can sort of understand why you ask women to commit a double suicide with you. You want someone to be by your side, right? You don't want to be lonely when you die. I guess I can understand that, though I wish I could show you the joy in living. But I don't think I'll ever be able to change your mind."
You laughed nervously, looking anywhere but at Dazai's face, where his smirk had been replaced by a more serious look. "I went on a totally different tangent there, didn't I? You can forget that last bit but to sum up everything, I have feelings for you. I don't expect you to return them anyways so...yeah."
Now, you looked at Dazai. His expression was unreadable. You couldn't understand what emotions were written on his face. You didn't even know what he would do next. Would he reciprocate your feelings? Would he reject them? What would he do? You wanted answers and you weren't getting them.
Then again, it was partly your fault also. You suddenly sprung these feelings on him. You shouldn't expect him to answer quickly.
(Secretly, you also thought that Dazai wasn't the type of person who'd ever truly  love someone. It was just your stupid luck he was the person you fell for.)
Unexpectedly, Dazai suddenly moved off you, giving you the opportunity to finally sit up and contemplate your next moves.
'Should I just run away?' You thought, thinking about the pain of rejection. You'd deal with it. Somehow. 'It's the coward's way out. But what more can I do?'
"If you're thinking of running away, don't," Dazai suddenly said, meeting your eyes with a stare so intense that you swore he could read every single thought in your mind.
"That was not what I was thinking," You clearly lied, crossing your arms.
"You know, I can tell that you're lying, my Belladonna," Dazai put his hand on your cheek, his slender fingers brushing away the stray strands of hair on your face. "You are not a very good liar."
"D — wh-what?" You froze up completely. Because as much as you would like to deny, even an action like this left you wanting more. His hands were inexplicably warm and strangely soft. You couldn't even think about running away now. Dazai put his other hand behind your back, pulling you close to him. Close enough that your noses were almost touching and you could see the little flecks of amber in his pretty brown eyes.
"D-do you also h-have feelings f-for me?"
What the hell was wrong with your voice? You wanted to ask your question again, but your words died in your throat.
Instead, your heart chose to speak. You tilted your head slightly, barely brushing your lips against his. Even this small action sent volts of electricity coursing through your body. But then, your courage fizzled out and you tried to move back.
Key word; tried.
Dazai put his hand at the back of your head and pulled you closer, finally,  freaking finally, kissing you.
You wished you could describe what you were feeling, but you really couldn't. Your mind was completely shut down and all you could really think was, that you were floating. And since it was your one of the few kisses you had in your life, you didn't know what to do. So you kept on pressing your mouth against Dazai's, trying to have more; trying to feel more of him.
It was strange, it felt so strange. But kissing Dazai felt incredibly…amazing. Yeah, amazing. Just him and you and nothing else. You felt like you could touch the stars now and you didn't want it to end. You wanted to keep on doing this forever, or as long as both of you could.
But then, Dazai suddenly ended the kiss, pulling back with a lazy grin.
You stared at him, breathing heavily. And then, you let your head fall onto his shoulder, grabbing onto to the front of his cream-colored trench coat.
"Does that answer your question, (Y/N)-chan?" He asked with a sing-song voice, suddenly hugging you.
"So you do like me?" Your voice was muffled by his coat, but you knew he heard you clearly.
His lips were pressed onto your neck, moving with his answer. You understood it immediately. Releasing his coat from your hands, you hugged him back.
You knew this moment wouldn't last very long, but you would revel in it for now.
It was going to be the only thing on your mind for a very long time.

a/n: i hope this was a fun read! with this quarantine, i've been thinking of attempting to write more character x readers because they are good practice for writing a multi-chapter fic. so you might see more bsd, haikyuu and bnha content on here. I might also post about DC so let's see.

Who are your TOP 4 and BOTTOM 4 DA companions???
😏
Ok so best companion characters
Top 4:
1. Leliana (my love my life my sun and stars my wife my goddess my everything Leliana could do anything ever and we would still stan I'm Obsessed I Will Love Her Forever)
2. Dorian (I adore him so much and his story is so sad and he's the best and why the hell couldn't I punch his piece of shit father???? He deserves the whole world I wish unromanced Dorian got a better boyfriend than Iron Bull tbh but meh at least he's happy at the end and they're cute in Trespasser).
3. Morrigan (you know how people say they would like to romance Morrigan as a female character? I get that too but tbh Morrigan Friendship >>>>> Morrigan Romance. Her romance has some very misogynistic lines because it was written with het guys in mind, same with her character design tbh, but her friendship with her learning to trust other people and when she calls you "a sister" and then says "know that I will always value your friendship even if I don't prove worthy of it????" Hello???? That's the most beautiful shit ever 😭😭😭😭😭)
4. Sera (deserved better!!!! She's such an interesting character and her perspective on things is not only different in a good way but also a lot more complex than everyone gives her credit for (but then everyone treats her like she's dumb D:) like it feels like she wasn't developed as much as the others when there was A Lot you could have done with her!! Because there's a lot of stuff she says which if you look between the lines it could make for amazing character moments. Also first lesbian LI so she's a queen just for that. Bioware doesn't deserve her give her better writers. Oh, and when she tells you that the best gift you could have given her was to not be ashamed to tell everyone else that she's your girlfriend???? ❤️😭❤️😭❤️😭 That shit hurted)
Top 4 WORST:
Since this is limited to companions, I can't put Cullen at number 1, but in my heart it's Cullen I hate him like I have never hated any other character ever and it's entirely for petty reasons and because he gives me the creeps. One time I let him keep being an addict in DA:I just because it's the only outcome you can get where he "dies" (and he doesn't even die then he just maybe-maybe-not-dies and even then the narrative still tried to woobify him, come on game it's possible to kill/screw over pretty much everyone in these games but HE gets the fucking pass?!?)
But, for companions (1 is the worst, 4 is the least worse on this list):
1. Oghren (why ever the fuck does he exist? He's annoying, he's misogynistic as hell, and has some really lesbophobic remarks to make too, the drunk stereotype has been done to death, ugh, and then in awakening they have him become a Warden too??? Go away!!)
2. Iron Bull (the only reason I hate him is bc he's like into bdsm shit and that makes me uncomfortable as hell lol. Otherwise he could be an interesting character tbh esp with his personal quest, which I actually like from a character perspective, but he makes me uncomfy so... #DorianDeservesBetter)
3. Blackwall (I don't actively hate Blackwall tbh I'm just like, I don't see the point of him, at all, he's so fucking dull and boring, like, why? I just hate him because he's boring as hell, at least his friendship with Sera is cute Sera deserves a good friend.)
4. Solas (listen, from a villain standpoint? I love Solas, i think his character is super interesting, I love his backstory A LOT I think his motivations are super cool from a lore point of view BUT the fact that he is incredibly pedantic, that he insults your character no matter what, that he is a love interest therefore the fandom woobifies him and his (which can be considered manipulative and abusive) relationship with the inquisitor and that, due to his popularity, everything is full of posts about how Solas Did Nothing Wrong, just makes me hate him lol like... stop glorifying evil male characters!!!! Also his design is a travesty, he's so ugly)
There's other characters that I'm more indifferent towards like for example Vivienne or Sten or Varric which I'm like "eh? You're there I guess?" but they don't awake strong feelings in me so I can't put them on the list.

So I saw your repost about the headcanons and pairings, and honestly... I love your fics, I think they're really well written and I see the Wuko chemistry in there, but in regards to the original show? I'm kinda giving you the side eye. But seriously, I'm glad you see it even if I don't! I think I just don't see pairings in general like that unless someone throws them to my face - hence, why I spent countless hours of my teenage years despairing about the lack of companionship fics in One Piece.
Side-eye anon here. In case you don't know One Piece, it's at least to me the ultimate companionship manga. And all the characters are too in love with adventures to even pursue romance. I've seen maybe one romance fic that I thought was believable, and it was based on the idea that two guys were just emotionally messed up enough to think that fighting constituted of showing affection. Rant over. I was seriously invested in this for many years, sorry to sprout this all on you :D
Oh, there was absolutely no intention on Bryke’s part to make Wuko a thing in the show. Whatsoever. I’ve commented on that many times on this blog! Wu was queer-coded as fuck (apparently they didn’t have anyone on the writing team who was able to pick that up, yikes) but it was very clear that was unintentional on their part and the intent was to make super annoying heterosexual Prince Wu a foil for het Mako’s growth over the show.
Nah, any interpretation of the characters being a couple in actual canon is wishful thinking on the part of viewers, or at least at this point. I am 100% cognizant of that and have been ever since Book 4 aired.
What I did think was that the characters had potential to have a continuing relationship, and I thought it could grow into a romance, given the right treatment. The characters as they were in canon could develop something deeper if I explored that, and I was interested in exploring that with those particular canon characters. I liked the canon dynamic between Wu and Mako and I loved (and still love) the actual ATLA/TLOK worldbuilding and wanted to play in that particular sandbox. I did have to make Wu somewhat more bearable to do it (I had to lose his annoying slang, for one thing, and I totally used Huan to do that) and that was actually a challenge I set myself. Can I make this annoying little shit less annoying? (I like to think I did.)
Do I think I’ve made anyone ship Wuko who hadn’t done it before they read my fic? Well, based on comments that I’ve gotten, I have. Was that my intention in writing it? No. Not at all, actually. I assumed that the people reading it would be doing so because they already shipped Wuko (and honestly couldn’t imagine why else they would be reading it) and any comments I’ve gotten telling me I got someone to ship it have surprised me, believe it or not.
But here’s the thing: I was interested in the long game with these characters, not just a quick fic to get them in bed with each other. (Not that there’s anything wrong with a quick fic to get them in bed with each other!) Just writing some quick Wuko smut was never my intent. I wanted to explore a lifetime with them and their particular canon dynamic, through marriage and children and aging and change and growth and everything else. That’s the kind of writing that I love reading as a reader, and it’s what I wanted to write as a writer.
I have had, over the nearly six years (!!!) I’ve been writing my TLOK fanfic set myself some goals as a writer. Could I write a successful letter fic? Could I write a diary fic that actually won over people who loathed first person? Could I create OCs that were believable, that could fit right in with canon, that would add to the universe rather than distract from it? Could I explore family dynamics in a way that resonated with people? Could I write in a way that would include representation without it being contrived or smacking people over the head with it? Could I take a reviled character (in this case, Baatar Jr.) and give them a redemption story that actually works (and here I am giving Bryke’s dreadful Kuvira redemption comic the side eye myself)? I wanted to learn and grow as a writer and fanfic gave me a way to do that, and I have 1000% used TLOK to do that. Both with my Wuko fics as well as my Beifong fics.
I am a super cerebral person, which makes me a super cerebral writer, I suppose. Blame the Autism! My fanfic is a hyperfocus for me, for sure. It’s always been about that so much more than it ever was shipping Wuko during Book 4. (And if anything, all of my Beifong fic is proof of that.)
I don’t know anything about One Piece (even still, I can feel your love for it) but I completely understand wanting more companionship fic. I don’t think every single relationship has to be about love/romance/sex and I also don’t think every single story has to revolve around that either. So no need for side eye at all, my Anonymous Friend. :) It’s precisely why I very rarely read fic that is just a basic excuse to throw two characters together for romance/sex and why I don’t write it, either. If I am going to ship something that isn’t explicitly canon, then I am going to take the time and effort to make it believable, to draw readers into that world, to let the romance blossom in a way that works for the characters and the worldbuilding.
So here’s a question for you - a real question, an I am seriously interested in your answer question, a no sarcasm intended question - what kind of thing would you want to see in a Wu and Mako fic? What kind of plot, what timeline, etc. If you are willing to answer, of course! I am genuinely curious and genuinely interested as a writer.

could I request a Kirishima x reader where reader is Hawk's little sister with the same quirk and meeting Kiri his first instinct: "Ship name: Rock Solid Chicken!" and used to his shit they're like "Yeah yeah Hot Wings" (I ship hawksdabi I cannot lie)
Pairing: Kirishima x ReaderWarnings: Kinda angsty
A/N: I was not expecting this to turn out the way it did. Sorry, anon, if you just wanted some cute fluff (I promise there’s a happy ending). I’ve never written angst before it just sort of came out this way. Regardless, I hope you enjoy!
“Are you sure you have everything?” your brother asked. “You’ve got your costume and all of your textbooks?”
“For the last time, Takami, I’m all set,” you laughed. “Stop being a worrisome little bitch and just let me go to school.”
The pro hero laughed and pulled you into a tight hug, giving you a nuggie in the process. You tried flapping your wings in an attempt to get away, but his grip was too strong. “Knock ‘em dead, tiger,” he said, finally letting you go.
You smiled and waved him off as you ran to UA campus. This is it, you thought. This is where I will become one of the greatest heros.
---
“Class 1-a,” you said to yourself. “Where are you where are you where– Ouch!” You didn’t realize but had run into another student, one with a hardening quirk it seemed. When you ran into him it seemed to have startled him and he activated his quirk in self defense.
The boy turned around from the conversation he was having and looked down at you. “Oh crap I’m so sorry,” he said. He watched as you slowly brought your hand down from your nose, revealing it to be bruised and bloody.
“It’s fine,” you said, not realizing how bad the situation actually was. “Does it look bad?” You looked up at the boy, whose eyes sunk back at the sight in front of him.
“Looks...fine,” he said, although you could tell he was lying by the look on the person’s face he was talking to earlier. The blonde boy was shaking his head vigorously signifying that no, it did not look fine. “Why don’t I walk you to recovery girl’s office.”
You nodded and walked with the red head. “I’m Kirishima by the way,” he said.
“(L/n).” Your hand was cupped under your nose in order to catch any blood. Your wings started to twitch as the pain from your nose finally began to sink in.
“Sorry for asking this, I mean you probably get it a lot, but are you related to the number three pro hero Hawks?” Kirishima had the look of ebullience spread across his face.
You laughed a little, but pulled back as that made the pain worse. “Yeah I do get that a lot,” you said. “He’s actually my older brother.”
“No way!” The excitement in Kirishima’s voice was unprecedented, cute almost. “What’s he like?”
You smiled. You knew you would be bombarded with questions about the hero which you were not looking forward to. But this was not what you expected. You supposed you could handle one-on-one questions about your brother. “Well I’m a little biased because he can be super annoying,” you said. “He’s like a worrying mother when it comes to me,” you said. “But he’s really determined when it comes to his hero work.”
“Awesome,” Kirishima said. His eyes were wide, like those of a puppy being shown a delicious treat. “So manly!”
From there on out, you and Kirishima became best friends. You ate lunch together, trained together, and he even convinced Bakugo to let you study with them. Kirishima was your partner in crime. The two of you were invincible if you stuck together.
You were at home, sprawled across the couch, texting Kirishima when Takami came into the living room. “Hey,” he said, making his way to the fridge for the leftover takeout from the night before. “How was school?”
But you didn’t hear him. You were smiling at your phone as you watched the typing symbol pop up, the three dots moving up and down.
Your brother frowned at you when you gave no response. He walked up to you and swiped the phone out of your hands.
“Hey!” You tried grabbing it back, but he was pushing your face away as he read the texts.
“Who is Kiri heart emoji?” he asked, showing you that cheesy grin he would give you whenever he knew he’d be able to embarrass you.
“H-he’s no one.” You pulled off two of your feathers and point them directly at him.
Your brother widened his eyes, impressed and a little flattered that you had been practicing one of his ultimate moves. “Alright alright,” he said, cautiously handing your phone back to you. But the smirk never left his face. “I won’t pry.”
You took the phone back, but found yourself disappointed when you saw the three dots in the typing bubble were still bouncing up and down. You continued staring until they stopped and your eyes widened, only to receive a laughing crying emoji seconds later.
Your disappointment didn’t go unnoticed by your brother. “You know,” he said. “I’m not telling you that you can’t date anyone.”
“Stop,” you said, not looking up.
“There’s nothing wrong with liking someone.”
“I don’t like him so stop, please.”
Your brother nodded at you but he knew you were lying. Not only to him but to yourself. And that lying to yourself went on for a while. It got to the point where you began actively avoiding Kirishima, just to prove a point.
“Did I do something wrong?” Kiri asked you one day.
“Not at all.” You refused to look up from the book you were pretending to read.
“Because I feel like we were becoming really close friends and now you’re ignoring me all of a sudden.” He went to scratch the back of his neck. “Did I say something?”
You felt your face get hot. You didn’t want to have this conversation. Not here, not now, not ever. “You didn’t do anything.” Then you stood up and left, not realizing how heartbroken you had left your best friend.
A month went by and you continued to avoid Kirishima like the plague, and by doing that, you ended up convincing yourself that you hated him. You wouldn’t speak to him or even look in his direction. After school you went straight over to your brother’s agency where you would continue training your quirk. You got strong. You trained outside of class almost as much as Midoriya did. And people could tell you had gotten stronger.
“(L/n) that was awesome!” You looked over and smiled at Uraraka, who was watching you train in Gym Gamma.
“Heh. Thanks.”
She handed you a towel and you wiped your face and under your arms with it. You hadn’t tried anything that rigorous in a while, so you were panting like a dog. You turned around after hearing the all too familiar voice of Bakugo yelling. “Hey shitty hair! Pay attention or I’m gonna blast you so far up in the air you’re not gonna remember your own name.”
You turned your head to face Kirishima, or “shitty hair” as Bakugo liked to call him. He was staring at you, watching you train.
“You know,” Uraraka said. You snapped your head to look at her. “He really misses you. You should talk to him about what happened.”
“Nothing happened,” you said. Your eyes averted to the ground and you fidgeted with the towel. You were still panting heavily.
“You can’t lie to me, (L/n),” Uraraka said. “I know that you have a huge crush on him and just refuse to admit it.”
“I don’t like him,” you snapped. “I hate him.” Your face began turning red. You truly despise him. At least you’d like to believe you do.
“Okay,” Uraraka said. “Let’s pretend you really hate him.”
“I do,” you snapped at her.
“Okay okay.” She shot her hands up defensively. “Why do you hate him?”
You were at a loss for words. Why do I hate him? “I just do.”
“But you two were best friends at the beginning of the school year. What happened to make you hate him like this?”
You paused, thinking about your words before speaking up. “I don’t know. He just...aggravates me so much. Like every time I look at him this pit forms in my stomach and I can’t stand it.” You clench your stomach with your hand and hunched over to sit on the gym floor. “It’s like he’s messing with my brain and I get all hot around him, and I can’t stand him for it.”
Uraraka looked at you, expecting you to continue. When you didn’t, she just laughed. “(L/n),” she said. “The way you feel around Kirishima is the way I feel around Deku.”
Your angry expression dropped. “Huh? But Midoriya is one of your best friends. Besides, I thought you had the hots for him.”
“Exactly!” She threw her arms up in the air for emphasis. “(L/n), have you ever had a crush on someone?”
You thought for a moment. Surely there was someone you’d liked in the past. But looking back, you couldn’t think of anyone. “I’m not sure I’ve ever liked anyone like that.”
“But you like Kirishima like that.” She gave you a cheeky smirk.
“No I don’t!” you all but shrieked. A couple people training looked over at you, but you paid them no mind. “Besides isn’t falling for someone supposed to be, i dunno, magical? I feel like absolute crap around him.”
“That’s the thing, though.” Uraraka looked down and smiled to herself, getting caught up in her own thoughts. “When you care about someone that much it can do weird things to you, and when you see them having fun with another person, that can make you feel crappy. That crappy feeling is jealousy.”
You turned back to look at Kirishima, who was laughing at something Bakugo said. You felt that pit form in your stomach again. “But I also feel this pit when he’s alone or even when he’s trying to talk or text me.”
Uraraka giggled again. “It’s not just jealousy. It’s a longing to be with them. It’s your mind telling you to go to them in a bizaar sort of way. Love is kind of stupid that way, but when you finally confess it’ll be like a weight off your chest.”
You thought about it for a second. “Does this mean you’re in love with Midoriya,” you asked. The same cheeky grin she gave your earlier spread across your own face as she turned even pinker than before.
“Love? No no love isn’t how I’d put it,” she said in a frantic manner. “Did I say love? I meant above like ahh look above. Haha yeah that!”
You laughed. She was so calm before and now she was a flustered mess. “It’s okay,” you said. “I promise I won’t tell.”
That got her to relax a little, but her face was still bright red.
You sighed and looked over at Kirishima, who was dodging Bakugo’s attacks. “If this is what love feels like I never want to be in love again.” Telling Uraraka made your stomach feel a bit lighter, but looking back at Kiri it was still there.
Uraraka stood up. “You should talk to him,” she said. “I guarantee it’ll make you feel better.”
It took a lot of convincing to get you to talk to him. After class you stayed in the bathroom for thirty minutes feeling like you were going to puke. When you finally convinced yourself to approach him you noticed it was raining; lightly, but it was still raining.
Your umbrella was large since you hated the feeling of having wet wings. But when you saw Kirishima sitting on a bench outside of campus you couldn’t care less about them. His legs were spread and he resting his elbows on his knees, head in hands as if he were contemplating something.
You walked over to him and stuck your umbrella out over his head, making him look up at you. There the two of you were, making intense eye contact that couldn’t be broken. You were the first one to speak. “I’m sorry I’ve been such an asshole lately.” You looked down as that pit in your stomach came back. You tried to ignore it. “You’ve been nothing but kind to me since we started school here. I even thought of you as my best friend.”
The breath in Kirishima’s lungs hitched, but he didn’t interrupt you.
You continued looking down at your shoes, not having the courage to look back up at him. “I don’t deserve your friendship, but if we could start over and if you could give me a second chance I promise that I will do better.”
Kirishima let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. He waited a few seconds before speaking up. “Why did you ignore me, though? It just feels like out of nowhere you started hating me and I don’t know why.”
You finally looked up at him. The soft tears flowing steadily from your eyes and down your cheeks made took him by surprise. “I never hated you,” you said. “I think I’m in love with you.”
His mouth was agape. He slowly stood up as you started to crumble down before him into a sobbing mess. He held you in his strong arms as you wept, apologizing over and over again. And he kept saying it’s alright even though you knew it wasn’t. The two of you stayed like that for a long time; too long to count. Your umbrella was long gone by now, having been blown away by the wind. The rain had picked up to a heavier pitter-patter on the sidewalk.
“(Y/n),” he said, looking down at you. You looked up at him with pleading eyes, as he had yet to answer your question. “I’ve thought about it for a while. And, I think I might be in love with you too.”
At that moment you let out the biggest sob you could imagine. It was more of a scream than anything. You thought you had let out all of the tears in your body, as for the last few minutes you were only letting out dry tears while making constipated looking faces in an attempt to cry. But in that moment you never felt so gross.
Kirishima held you closer and shifted his position so he was sitting on the bench and you were being cradled in his lap. When you had finally calmed down you never wanted to leave that position. Kiri’s lap was so comfortable. It made you feel so secure.
“Can you forgive me?” You asked. The back of your throat felt like it was on fire as it swelled with old tears and mucus. Your senses were logged with the overpowering smell of rain water.
“That depends,” Kirishima said, a smirk gracing his face. “Will you be my girlfriend?”
You looked like you were about to cry again, but you didn’t. Instead you nodded your head vigorously, and Kirishima laughed. Neither of you had felt this happy in a very long time.
---
Everyone was surprised the next day when you and Kirishima were talking with each other just like old times. It was almost like the last month never happened. All of your friends, except Uraraka of course, asked question after question. “Are you guys friends again?” and “What's up with you and Kirishima?” kept ringing through your ears. But everyone caught on to what was happening when the entire class walked in on you guys making out in the classroom when you thought they’d all be gone for a while.
You two were the power couple of your class. I mean, it helped that you were the only couple of your class, but the two of you were practically inseparable. You continued going strong throughout the rest of your first semester, and you got even stronger second semester.
That brings us to where you are today, lounging on the floor or Kirishima’s dorm room, flipping through a textbook you were barely skimming.
“Can I say something?” he said.
Your ears perked up. “What’s up?” You closed the textbook with a loud thud.
“The first day we met, you know when you told me Hawks is your brother...”
“You mean the day you accidentally broke my nose?” You laughed.
“Well I had this idea,” he said, purposely avoiding the fact that your first interaction was a particularly bloody one. “For a ship name.”
Your eyes widened and the smile on his face grew bigger. “Well don’t leave me hanging!” you said, and he laughed.
“Alright alright alright. Rock Solid Chicken.”
You blinked a few times, trying your hardest to ignore the fact that your brother eats chicken and other birds on a day to day basis. You burst out laughing. Not only because it was kind of ridiculous, but because you actually kind of liked it.
“What do you think?” Kiri looked like puppy.
“Yeah yeah, hot wings,” you said. “Alright, I’ll admit it’s pretty good.”
“Hot wings?” Kirishima asked.
Your face was already flushed from laughing so hard, but as he looked at you with a devilish smirk you could feel your cheeks grow hotter. “Hey,” you said. “I see it how it is.”
“In that case,” Kirishima stood up and hardened his skin. He flexed even harder, showing off his muscles. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”

BFCD Reviews by Nesha: Summertime on Netflix
This is what I’m gonna do... I’ll be doing more structured reviews later and most likely liveblogging suggested stuff and tagging with “Nesha Watches (Insert Title) for all liveblog posts. For this first review, I won’t be as structured, because I didn’t really plan on reviewing, so this is basically all of my comments to friends @chenoahchantel and @daintyurbanprincess that were made whilst I was watching this show suggested to me by @rbaifzau
It didn’t take me long to be annoyed with the white boy in this show. It doesn’t take much anyways, but one episode in and I’m over him already. This dude saw her at a party, she got pushed into the pool accidentally, he gave her a dry shirt, and two minutes later tried to kiss her… TF..
Girl, this bout to be IGNANT...
Chile... She was like, "What are you doing?" And he looked surprised. Like whet. And in episode 2 after having seen her thrice and spoken to her once, he telling his best friend, "I'm pretty sure I like her a lot." I HATE stuff like this. Why did I tell old girl I'd watch this and discuss it with her? 😭
But she like him, so like??? 😭
And her daddy, who we haven't seen yet is presumably a rolling stone. Only one negro in this town and the nigga gotta be probably running around on his wife? 🙄 I'm like, OH, so the one Black man in the show gotta be a rolling stone? And even though his wife is also highly irresponsible as a parent, she's sort of made out to be the victim of his dreams. They never portray Black mothers doing things on their own as victims. That woman was messing up left and right and it's all on her husband not being there, when that's only part of the problem.
Also, if she IS the only present parent and made the decision to do that, she should be doing it instead of leaning on Summer all of the time.
And she got a close friend that have an obvious crush on her but she seems oblivious. I hate dis
This dude reminds me of Max Theriot. He always looked musty to me. 🤣🤣🤣 He look like him breaf stank. Him and Jack Griffo were working on something where they play soldiers and I absolutely said, "He still look like he stank" when I saw him on Instagram…
Tumblr media
This is basically the same mold of dude and it looks moldy and should be tossed out. None for me, thanks.
But, there are moments in this show that's really cracking me up. 🤣🤣🤣 It's like, I feel like I should enjoy it for the messiness of it, but the main characters can be infuriating.
She called him an asshole and he said, "You don't even know me." No duh dipshit. She ain't know you when you tried to kiss her neither. NOR when you was talmbout you like her.
This girl kissing her friend!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. She's gonna hurt this boy! My Gwad. He finna be discombobulated. 😭😭😭 He all happy today and she don't even see him like that. Lordt.
He walked up and she look uncomfortable AF. Her younger sister is like, "You're being weird." 🤣🤣🤣 Even SHE hip to something. He on the beach talmbout "It's hot today, don't you think?" And took his shirt off. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I like Summer's friends and feel bad for them because she really didn't treat them kindly. She used Edo whenever she was upset by Ale and then she just completely ditched Sofie on her birthday and didn't even text her or anything. Just had her waiting on her and didn't even apologize. Like, I love that she gets a chance to be human, but being an asshole to the people who you're supposed to be friends with is such an upsetting trope to me.
And the connection between her and Ale is so weird. He comes across as super predatory in the beginning and I don't understand why she liked him in the first place, but also whenever he does something by mistake, she is so angry at him, even though she's been just as inconsiderate when it comes to her friends.
NOW... HE HARASSING HER AT HER JOB.
WOTTICE DIS HUNNY???
Talmbout if she got a boyfriend he'll "take care of him" 😖 After she told him to leave and he said he'd wait for her outside, she asked her coworker, "What do you do to let a guy know you like him back?"
NOW, she went outside and he's there, but her friend showed up to surprise her after work. 🤣 Whoever made this HATES me
He stole a book out her locker and left a card with his phone number. How is this the start of a romance???
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. FRIEND IS TALKING ABOUT THE KISS...He said it was perfect........
Chile... And she don't even wanna tell their other best friend. Bruh. He said, "What we have doesn't need to be discussed." Summy PLEASE tell this young man...HE TRIED TO KISS HER AGAIN AND SHE SAID, "We just talked about last night's mistake" 😭😭😭
And she done hurt my friend this way, but she worried about Maxface because his mama can't reach him on the phone??? Girl.. go.. girl...
The gag is that she got mad at Ale because she saw him talking to his ex and she had to cover for him at work, but you've now ACTUALLY put your best friend in a bad space. And he ran into her mom and little sister and looked so uncomfortable but kept it short and sweet. These are people he loves. Idk. I feel bad for him and also like she kind of a hypocrite.
That was what REALLY bothered me. I don't expect her to be perfect, by all means. Black girls should be allowed their imperfections and their mistakes, but the fact that she knows what it's like to have the people you love be so absent and that she would treat her friends this way because of one guy who she's only known for a couple of months was disappointing for her character. She could have been written imperfectly without this glaring problem that I don't believe a real person in her position would actually have.
I think in real life, the girl who raises her sister and basically has to lift her mother up all the time would overextend herself to her friends, but instead, she just leaves them in her dust as soon as she gets some dick. 😭
He is now hanging out with her little sister. 😭😭😭She goes to school with them but she looks tiny. I'm cringing at everything.
BRUH. Like... I can't tell if they're trying to or not, but I wouldn't be surprised because he's cool with the sister too, but they've been friends a while, so I didn't think much of it until Summer hurt him.I thought she liked him earlier, so idk if he is noticing her or I just EXPECT it.
OAN, this man realized his son had a motorcycle accident on purpose and got mad instead of concerned
At one point, they say he's been riding bikes for 20 years, and whenever his father is mad that he had his accident on purpose (which I'll come back to) he says that he's never made a mistake like that, not even was he was 4, so Ale is AT LEAST 24 and she JUST turned 18. Which is WILD to me, even though at 18 I dated someone who was 23 (he was possessive and abusive, so I have a real suspicion of age gaps).
But, aside from that - she gets mad at him any time she sees him with his ex when It is perfectly fine to speak with your ex and whenever she did see them together, it was always innocent and she didn't give him a chance to explain.
But then, when he does something questionable, like whenever he tried to kiss her the first day they met, or whenever he came to her job to ask her out and she told him to leave but he said he was going to wait outside (toxic AF and presumptuous) she is fine with those things.
Now, back to Ale's accident. I really felt so bad for him whenever we discover he did this on purpose, because his father is mad, when they should be concerned. His mother says, "You could have died" and he agrees...
How did they not notice that meant that this young man was so disappointed with his life as a biker that he was literally suicidal? They just grazed past it and whenever he vanished on them, there wasn't a huge call to find him, even though he'd just admitted to purposefully filling a possibly fatal mistake.
I'm prepared for nothing but disappointment. ALL these people outta there. Ale's best friend is in love with his ex. 😭 IT'S SUMMER'S 18TH BIRTHDAY. MYNIGGA She really stood her other best friend up to go get some dick on a little ass boat
The little sister shot her shot! 😭😭😭 He told her she's like his little sister and she burnt off mad denna muffugga
This child drunk, walking down the street in the middle of the night without her glasses...
OMG AS I WAS TYPING THAT SHE GOT HIT BY A DAMN CAR
I was really upset by these things coming to light, and also whenever Blue gets hit by a car, because all of the reviews that I've seen on this site have been that it's a cute love story with likable characters, but nobody mentions the problematic content, the dark portions of the story that can be triggering - like suicide and alcohol incidents and literally seeing a young Black girl be hit and run by a car???
I wasn't prepared for that shit in a "cute love story." I think that this story is less cute and more dark than people have made it out to be, and that's one of my problems with it. It isn't marketed as a dramatic coming of age story. It's marketed as a romantic comedy, when it is more serious than that and has a lot of issues that should be considered.
The lesbian best friend is in love with her too??????????????????? I. Hate. This.
My favorite person in this whole thing is the lesbian in the background, Irene. And also Dario.
I was entertained a lot of the times. Just heavily confused because I couldn't figure out what the tone was supposed to be. 😁
In conclusion - it's maybe a dark comedy, not a cute comedy, IS a coming of age about a young Black girl who is kind of an asshole, but Black girls should be free to be assholes too. White dudes do it all the time and are valued characters. The dude is weird AF for chasing around this 17 year old girl and he's in his 20s. Idk if that's normal in Italy. It's nasty to me. Their beginning is young people foolishness and there's not much that we see their relationship built upon, but that happens, yanno. You young, tired and silly and some pushy dude makes his move whenever he see you. Slap some discount sex in a dinghy on it and you have this show. I don't recommend it, but a lot of folk loved it, so I guess it did what it meant to do.
