Only the anchestors keeping watch over you would know just how long you had been resting until your body was eventually able to move again.
As you looked around, you found several pairs of glowing red eyes observing every one of your moves, clashing with the otherwise darkness around you.
You bolted in an upright position, chest waving heavily as your breath was forming a cold mist. Much to your surprise, you were covered in warm furs.
“Worry not” one of them spoke, their body almost inseparable from the icy cave you apparently resided in. “We are a warrior tribe, not warmongers. What do we gain from killing a weak Asgardian noblewoman and their child?”
“Where is he?!” you choked on your own sob, only able to calm down when yet another giant handed the small bundle into your arms.
They seemed to have cared for him while you were unable to, having fed and cleaned the small boy who was still impossible to distinguish from those powerful giants.
“What is his name?” A female of them seeked to know.
You stopped in your tracks at her question. Everything happened so fast, there was no time to think about it until now.
“His...his name is...L-Liam*. Liam Lokison.” The unintended alliteration made you smile. Yes, this was a formidable name for such a little fighter.
“Loki, you say?” A row, deep voice drang to your ears, huffing at hearing the name of your husband.
It is him again - Laufey.
Initially, you wanted to express your gratitude for his benevolent hospitality, but concluded it would be better to not interrupt.
“Loki, you say?” he repeated the name, tone laced with venom pumping through his heart. “That pathetic excuse of a Jotunn?”
What in hel did he just say?!
“No wonder that crossbreed of yours is so pathetically tiny.” Laufey would now eye his grandson with great fascination, even though adverse. “A disgrace, just like his father.”
“Wha- what in the realms are you...talking about?”
You took in a sharp breath, pulling the child deeper into your arms and away from his wary eyes.
The king could only laugh at your attempts, finding this farce absolutely amusing.
“Hilarious”, he scoffed, “I take from your reaction that Odin is still the old, pathological liar.”
The Allfather had expected you to die in this environment before you’d ever find out the truth, and even if not - Odin thought Laufey to be wildly ashamed of his son, and he would never admit that this freak was his child.
And that was where he was wrong.
“He still didn’t tell any of you?” The Jötunn thought back to that day of indescribable loss. First and foremost the war with Asgard and them taking away his power, together with the Cascet of Ancient Winters - and then...
“The man you call the God of Mischief was born on Jotunheim, as Laufeyson” he declared, and the following words made your heart clench dreadfully. “For whyever I deserved such misfortune, my firstborn came into this world as a failure.”
“Our world is harsh and unforgiving” Laufey continued and apparently, none of the folk seemed surprised. “It is an act of mercy to erase the weakest of our kind, since they wouldn’t survive either way.”
“Lies” you hissed - but the proof was right there, in your arms. “You are lying!”
However, deep inside, you already knew that his words were true.
Why?
Not minding the surrounding giants, you began crying from all the weight on your heart - mourning over the fate of your lover.
From his very first day, Loki Laufeyson was doomed. His only birthright was failure, exclusion and resentment, with death’s grip constantly at his throat.
“Then-” Connecting the dots, fear overcame your system. “Why did you help me?”
“Too much blood of Asgardians and Jotunns had been shed.”
Now that you thought of it, they had saved you - cared for Liam, even. Neither had they left you to die, nor tried to harm you or the child in any way.
Odin was really the greatest liar in all of history - for there were no monsters in Jotunnheim. Only a different race of people.
“I have stained my own hands in countless battles against your kind. But we are in dire need of peace, Y/N of Asgard. And your child could be the key.”
Anger began boiling inside of you, thoughts still revolving around how Loki had been lied to for all those years - and for what? Diplomacy? Using him like a tool, to control the Jötunn?
“Loki is Asgardian just as much as you are.” Somehow, the king almost sounded pained at the revelation. “He is unaware of his heritage, taught to despise us from childhood on. There is no way he would connect our two cultures with how much hatred he bears in his heart.”
At first, you felt close to passing out once again - the emotional exhaustion being way worse than what your body could take.
Those past two days were just too much for you: Liam’s birth, his genes, being cast out by your own people - and now, knowing that Loki had been lied to and used, even might be in danger at the hands of his own father?!
“So, you want me to...raise him here?” The thought alone made your insides churn, thinking back to your homeland. “I think I have to decline that generous offer.”
“No, not like that.” Laufey slowly approached both of you, wary to not touch your skin in any way. He signalized the want to touch his grandson, and you allowed it.
Of course, in a primal tribe like that, showing weakness was unforgiveable - especially if you were the king.
Yet you couldn’t really describe why, but somehow you knew that Laufey wasn’t as heartless as it appeared to be. Maybe, back then, he really thought his decision to be best - but now?
Everything you could decipher in his orbs as he touched Loki’s child was remorse, yearning and guilt. The loss of his firstborn was still present in his heart, aware that even though alive, they had grown apart from each other beyond repair.
“You need sunlight and warmth to survive.” Homesickness could also kill you, you knew that much. “We only ask of you for visits during his upbringing, so he can learn our ways and traditions. See both sides of the coin.”
A bridge between worlds, huh?
On the one hand, it was a huge responsibility you would burden on your child - yet you knew that at least learning about his heritage was his birthright.
Never you would allow yourself to dwell on comfortable lies like Odin, just because you didn’t want to be condemned for the past!
You would save Loki, as well as ensure this wonderful child’s future!
“Laufey, my king and inlaw, so it shall be. This child is now part of your tribe, as much as it is Asgardian.”
_____
[Several weeks later]
“To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Laufey looked down on the Asgardian prince, standing in front of the gates of the Jotunn village.
“I demand on seeing my wife, you dull creatures!” Loki materialized a dagger, threatening to throw it right into the Jötunn’s eye. “Whatever you’ve done to her, I will repay a thousand times!”
Unimpressed, Laufey spoke “I see Odin has taught you his manners. Violent, hotheaded and selfish. No wonder she did not stay with you.”
“I ask you this one last time: Where. Is. Y/N?!”
Without any second thought, the God of Mischief had left in secret, facing the giants all alone without help of his brother or soldiers.
Because your husband was devastated beyond relief.
Without you at his side, the half-god had completely lost his way. All this time since he thought you dead, nothing could save Loki from his own mind.
For weeks, he wouldn’t leave his chambers, sitting in the dark for hour after hour without nourishing his body in the slightest.
He was haunted by how your belongings reminded him of those blissful days of your marriage. Your scent was still present on those now empty bedsheets, fogging his mind and keeping him from much-needed sleep.
Tumblr media
The only matter he busied himself with aside from screaming and crying until his throat went sore, were the thoughts of what could be:
Knowing himself responsible for your imminent demise was eating him alive - even if that child wasn’t his, if only he didn’t rush things and would’ve let some time pass, to become clear-headed again as he was now.
Would Loki be able to forgive you and live on, overcome this hardships like so many before?
Most certainly! Because he needed you at his side, more than anything else.
Loki Odinson couldn’t live without the light of his life.
And if there was even the slightest chance of you still being alive, he would claim what was his and start anew.
“Loki, your eyes are wide open, and yet you don’t seem to see the full picture.”
When Laufey refused to descend to the entrance, Loki would immediately teleport himself towards the giant, blade aiming at his throat. “You will answer to your crimes, monster!”
The king was able to repel the attack by grabbing the god’s wrist - yet instead of the incoming pain Loki was expecting, merely his clothing froze into crumbles...
...and his limb turned in a shade of dark blue.
“You’ve grown strong, my son.”
_______
*Liam is a irish name, meaning “strong-willed warrior” or “protector”.

What do you think Henry VII remembers, if anything, of his other uncle Henry VI?
This is such an interesting question and something that I myself have been wondering, so thank you for providing me with the opportunity to expand my thoughts on here 🌹
We know that Henry VII only ever saw his uncle King Henry VI once during his life, when he was 13 years old. However, I’d argue King Henry must have caused quite a great impression on him, and considering Henry Tudor was old enough at that time, also a profoundly lasting one. So far young Henry Earl of Richmond had been living as a ward of his uncle Jasper’s enemies, the Herberts. By 1470 his old guardian, William Herbert, had been executed, and then, as the Earl of Warwick changed sides and brought about Henry VI’s readeption, Henry Tudor was returned to his uncle Jasper who took him to London to meet King Henry VI. That Jasper felt like acquainting his nephew with his brother denotes a special degree of closeness and advocates for his idea of family, in my opinion.
According to André, Henry VII’s court poet and self-styled regius historiographus, on 27 October 1470 Henry VI held ‘a splendid feast with the nobles and best men of the kingdom’ to commemorate his return to the throne. As the king was washing his hands, young Richmond was brought to his presence, and according to André, ‘the king prophesied that someday the boy would undertake the governance of the kingdom and would have all things under his own power.’ Polydore Vergil, a historian that began his service under Henry VII in 1506, wrote in his Three Books that in that 1470 meeting ‘the king... is reported to have said:’
“This truly, this is he unto whom both we and our adversaries must yield and give over the dominion.”
It seems not even Vergil lends much credence to this tale as expressed by his choice of words: reported to have said. As expected, this myth has largely been viewed as Tudor propaganda and indeed the episode has been immortalised in Shakespeare’s Henry VI part III. In the play, King Henry VI meets a toddler Henry Richmond (then escorted by Somerset), calls him ‘England’s hope’, and says Richmond was ‘Likely in time to bless a regal throne’. Given that King Henry VI had his own son Prince Edward as his heir at the time, it seems unlikely he would ever have said such a thing. However, if anything remotely close to that happened, then I agree with Leanda de Lisle in saying that it must have been King Henry VI taking Henry Tudor to be his own son Edward, who thanks to his imprisonment in the Tower he had not seen for five years (and would not ever see again). It’s absurdly sad to think King Henry VI would confound his nephew with his son but arguably also not out of the realm of possibility. We don’t know if Henry Tudor saw his uncle King Henry again, but it’s also not unlikely that he, his mother and uncle Jasper stayed at court for the feast of All Hallows’ (1 November) and All Souls’ Day (2 November).
If King Henry VI ever made such prophecy, wittingly or not, then it must have greatly impacted on Henry Tudor. Henry VII believed to have been chosen by God to, against all odds, become king of England. He once wrote about ‘the crown which it has pleased God to give us with the victory over our enemy at our first field’. Henry Tudor was reported to be very pious—he made pilgrimages to the shrine of St Thomas Becket at Canterbury every Easter, as well as frequent pilgrimages to the shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and donations to the shrine of St Vincent Ferrer in Brittany. He also founded the cult of the Breton saint St Armel in England and boosted the teachings of St Francis by his patronage of the Franciscan order. He especially favoured the Observants (the Franciscans, also known as the Greyfriars), granting them annuities for the establishment of monasteries in England and abroad. It seems he also favoured staying at religious houses when travelling or going on progress around the kingdom.
Most importantly, Henry VII held a singular devotion to the Virgin Mary and his adoption of the red rose as his personal symbol—aside from dynastic reasons—had everything to do with the religious connotations of that flower. Henry VII could have associated himself with his uncle Henry VI by adopting his antelope badge, for example, but instead, he chose the five-petal flower associated with the Virgin Mary and the Passion of Christ. The Franciscans were noted for their devotion to the Passion, and Henry VII had come in contact with the Observants during his exile in Brittany. The rose had five petals like the five wounds of Christ—St Bernard of Clairvaux once stated: “As many wounds as there are on the Saviour’s body, so many roses are there! Look at His feet and His hands; do you not see roses?”
Forgive me for still going on a tangent about it, but Henry VII’s personal devotion to the Virgin Mary and the doctrine of her Immaculate Conception is exemplified in his Book of Hours, where a miniature shows a figure representing the king kneeling at a prayer desk before a vision of the Virgin as a baby held by her mother, St Anne (or, alternatively, The Virgin and the Child Jesus). His devotion to the Virgin was also highlighted in his rebuilding of the Lady Chapel (now Henry VII’s Chapel) at Westminster Abbey which I will return to in a moment.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure but I think it was Vergil who reported Henry VII as having said that religion was his ‘continual refuge’ during exile. His piety has been largely attributed to the influence of his mother Margaret Beaufort, herself also a very pious woman. But given how many years—and formative years those were—they spent apart, I imagine that Henry must have looked up to someone closer to him at the time, namely his uncle Jasper Tudor. We know that after the death of Catherine of Valois Jasper and his brother Edmund were raised by nuns at Barking Abbey, and that then at some point they joined King Henry VI’s court. According to John Blacman, Henry VI’s biographer and chaplain writing in 1485:
[…] and like pains did [Henry VI] apply in the case of his half-brothers, the Lords Jasper and Edmund, in their boyhood and youth; providing for them most strict and safe guardianship, putting them under the care of virtuous and worthy priests, both for teaching and for right living and conversation, lest the untamed practices of youth should grow rank if they lacked any to prune them.
Blacman also claimed that the king personally protected his half-brothers from sexual temptation by keeping ‘careful watch through hidden windows of his chamber’ (yes, I know). Like his uncle King Henry VI, Henry VII would also set a court that ‘maintained the highest standards of sexual behaviour’. Indeed, Retha Warnicke made an extensive compilation of scandals during the first two Tudor reigns and not a single case of sexual misconduct was found to have taken place during Henry VII’s time, marking his court as a decidedly different one than Edward IV’s had been.
Going back to Henry VI’s supposed prophecy, his words surely must have acquired a great weight in Henry Tudor’s mind by 1483 when he made his bid to the English throne. By that time King Henry VI had become a popular saint in England and even though Edward IV had tried to have him modestly—and somewhat obscurely—buried in Chertsey Abbey, Surrey, people had started to flock to his grave. A peasant claimed that Henry VI helped him when he had a bean trapped in his ear, which only popped out after he prayed to the king. Painted images of King Henry VI began showing up in churches around the country, like this one at Barton in Norfolk:
Tumblr media
One of King Henry VI’s most ardent devotees was Henry Tudor’s mother Margaret Beaufort (Jasper’s feelings towards the cult are unknown) who had met her kinsman when she was about nine years old. When King Henry VI allegedly offered her the option of remaining married to Suffolk’s son or be remarried to his brother Edmund, Margaret says St Nicholas came to her in a dream dressed as a bishop, telling her to choose Edmund. Again, if this story is true or not, we may never know, but Margaret told that to her confessor John (bishop, then saint) Fisher—why would a famously pious woman such as Margaret Beaufort lie to her own confessor, thus committing a sin? It might be that the events took a mystical turn in Margaret’s imagination as a young girl, but that she associated divine intervention to hers and her son’s fate, and likewise to King Henry VI’s proposal, is clear.
It seems Richard III tried to control King Henry VI’s ever-growing cult by moving Henry VI’s body from Chertsey Abbey to St George’s Chapel at Windsor, a place where visitors wouldn’t have easy access to the king. Nevertheless, when Henry VII came to the throne he wholeheartedly encouraged pilgrimages to the place. Henry VII launched an official campaign to have his uncle canonised, with several petitions to popes Innocent VIII, Alexander VI and Julius II. Henry also ordered the compilation of a book of miracles worked by his uncle, and a biography of Henry VI was published in 1500 claiming that Henry VI had been ever pious and chaste during his life, towards his queen never behaving ‘unseemly ... but with all conjugal honesty and gravity’. Henry VII planned to have the body of King Henry VI re-interred at the heart of the new Lady Chapel he was planning at Westminster Abbey.
However much Henry VII enjoyed good relations with the papacy, especially Pope Innocent VIII, his campaign to have his uncle King Henry VI canonised never came into fruition. Henry VII decided for him and his wife to be buried at his new Lady Chapel instead, next to the tomb of his grandmother Queen Catherine of Valois. In his will, he stated his wish for his body to be buried:
“in the Chapell where our said graunt Dame laye buried, the which Chapell we have begoune to buylde of newe, in the honour of our blessed Lady.”
That doesn’t mean Henry VII set aside the memory of his uncle King Henry VI. He employed the same man that was overseeing the construction of the Lady Chapel at Westminster, Reginald Bray, to continue the rebuilding of St George’s Chapel at Windsor set in motion by his predecessor Edward IV (it came to be informally known as the Bray Chapel). The modest thirteenth-century chapel of Edward the Confessor was expanded into a vast cathedral-like chapel where, importantly, Henry VI’s body was placed alongside a famous relic, the fragment of the True Cross (a reliquary known as the Cross of Gneth) and the bones of John Schorne (revered for curing gout and toothache).
We may argue that Henry VII’s campaign to have King Henry VI’s canonised was fundamentally political (much like Richard II’s campaign for Edward II) as many historians have done. King Henry VI as a saint, combined with his supposed prophecy, would successfully contribute to the image of Henry VII’s reign as one chosen by God. When we put Henry VII’s religious devotion into perspective, though, his efforts to have ‘the glorious King Henry’ canonised take another dimension—in fact, there’s no doubt that in Henry VII’s eyes God had intervened in his favour. Henry VII’s will also stated his wish for an image of himself to be placed in St Edward’s chapel at Westminster, depicting him returning to God and the Virgin Mary the circlet with which he had been crowned at the Battle of Bosworth.
This is me purely speculating, but I think that even though Henry VII only came in contact with King Henry VI once in his life, his half-uncle might have exercised a great influence on him through his uncle Jasper. Jasper seemed to have been genuinely attached to his brother Henry on a personal level as well as devoted to his political cause. If Henry VI’s saintly qualities had been enough to impress Margaret Beaufort, it is very likely that they might have impressed young Henry of Richmond as well.

Lie to Me (Ch. 5 of ?)
Pairings: Loki x Reader
Genre/Ratings: M eventually (aiming for a slow burn here); warnings for kidnapping and subsequent anxiety/PTSD (will be marked before every chapter)
Words: 1500
Summary: If you had to guess what the captured, traitor, trickster god Loki Laufeyson wanted or needed at this moment, a babysitter would be far, far down on the list. (Set after the events of Avengers 1.)
SHOUTOUT TO @molmcb and @jessiejunebug and their continued quest to inflate my ego as I beg them to tell me my writing is halfway decent

“You said you have questions.”
Your pencil scratches to a halt on your notebook. “What?”
The man in his cell heaves a long suffering sigh. “Must you make me repeat myself constantly? You said you have questions. Ask them.”
Um… what? You raise an eyebrow at him and peer closely, trying to distinguish and sort of schmoozing like the last time he spoke to you. “Are you… are we, like, talking now? Is this a thing?”
“Excuse me?”
“Well you seemed pretty insistent on keeping up the whole silent treatment, sooooo… why talk now? Did my ever-present charm finally seduce the Trickster?”
He gives you a look that could feasibly translate to ‘you’d be more attractive dipped in a swamp and covered in grass clippings’. “I am bored. You are here and seem somewhat capable of producing coherent thoughts. Therefore, you happen to be my only option for entertainment.”
“Hoo boy, lucky me.” You snort. “Don’t lie to me, you probably just want to figure out how to sway me into unlocking your handcuffs again.”
He seems amused by this. “I am the god of lies, Witling. I very much doubt you could tell when I lie to you.”
“Bet.” You pause. “I- sorry. What did you call me?”
The Trickster has an incredibly self-satisfied smirk on his lips, one that instantly makes you want to slap it off of him. “You seem to think yourself incredibly pithy for a mortal. Not many would speak so smartly to the God with a sliver tongue. And, you apparently refuse to call me by name, thus I shall not call you by yours, Witling.”
Considering everything he just said to you were well-places insults, they’re incredibly pretty insults. You suppose it’s that whole silver tongue thing. The man could read a phone book and it’d be X-rated. “I’m assuming you’re not actually calling me witty, Trickster?”
“Ah, the little one understands sarcasm. Quite a boon.”
At this point the jabs just fly right over your head. You put your chin in your hand and rest it on the table, musing. “Hm. The Witling and the Trickster. Sounds like a bad buddy-cop movie. I’m sure Neil Gaiman would make a killing off of it though.”
“You are very quickly trying my patience.”
“Well hey, you said you wanted entertainment, right?” The ferocity of his glare doesn’t scare you this time, surprisingly- you just scrunch your nose up at him, your equivalent of a toddler sticking out her tongue in a na-na-you-can’t-get-me kind of way. “So, can I really ask anything?”
“Provided it is not something so asinine as ‘do apples taste as they do on Earth’.”
“Hey, it’s a good question! Seven year old me was a smart cookie.” Externally, you’re trying to keep calm, but your heart is thumping so wildly in your chest you’re surprised the god doesn’t comment on it. You can ask him anything. Possibilities are whirling around in your head so quickly you can barely think of one to snatch up and voice. So you blurt the first thing you can think of- “did you really give birth to a horse?”
There’s a moment of silence, and you almost think he hasn’t heard you, but then his face twists into the most haughty, appalled, scandalized look that’s ever come out of god or mortal in any of the nine realms; you’re willing to bet your entire life’s savings on it. “Did I what.”
You try to subtly clamp a hand over your mouth in effort to keep from bursting out laughing right to his face. “I’m assuming that’s a no, then?”
“Mortals are the most inane, idiotic, moronic creatures-” He steadies himself, seemingly controlling his outburst with a well-controlled breath. “No. I absolutely did not. Where in Hel did you manage to come up with such a ludicrous statement?”
“So once upon a time, you turned into a mare to seduce a horse called Svadilfari and the resulting, um, incident, created an eight-legged horse named Sleipnir. I mean, if the story is true, you were kind of in a bad spot and had to think on the fly, but uh… yeah. Kind of a creative way of doing things.” The Trickster looks even paler than usual. “You sure that didn’t happen? ‘Cause uh, its kind of a well documented story-”
“I can assure you in my one thousand and fifty odd years of life I have not ever seduced a horse.” You have to give a little giggle at that, because such an odd statement coming out of someone so furious is absolutely hilarious.
“Well, damn. Mythomaniacs everywhere just had a sharp pain in their chests and don’t know why.”
The Trickster leans his head back against his cell wall with a solid thunk and lets his eyes close. “And Thor wonders why I loathe Midgard so much.”
“I guess centuries of rumors working their way down the grapevine could mess up your reputation a bit, huh?” You’re half teasing, and half trying to cheer him up, but he doesn’t seem all that convinced. You’re also terrified you’ve just insulted the crap out of him and he’s going to go back to the silent treatment, and you really do not want that to happen- this is the most fun you’ve had in ages. “So you’re a thousand and fifty? Roughly?”
“Yes.”
“How long is that in, like, regular years?” He cracks open one eyelid to give you the stink eye, and you roll your eyes back at him. “You know what I mean. Midgardian years, whatever.”
“How should I know that?”
“Well, how long do Asgardians live?”
He seems to think for a moment. “Five thousand or so, give or take.”
“Okay, sooooo…” you scratch some quick math onto the paper in front of you. Five thousand years divided by one thousand and fifty, Loki’s age- 4.76ish. If the normal human lifespan is ninety years, being generous, then ninety divided by 4.76 is… “Huh.”
“Have you made a revolutionary discovery? Shall I call your pathetic press?”
“Just out of curiosity, how do you think the prefrontal cortex matures in Asgardians as compared to humans?”
“Considering Asgardians are vastly superior to mortals, I should say at a greater capacity.”
“I sure hope so,” you murmur to yourself. Because this is… wow. Kind of terrifying, and kind of hilarious.
“What has your tongue in knots?”
“Do you really want to know?”
He cocks and eyebrow and glances around at his cell. “I’m not sure how the information could make my situation any worse.”
“Fair. Well, by human standards, you’re just shy of nineteen years old.”
“I have no context for your lifespans.”
“Um, eighteen is when you’re legally considered an adult in most countries. Here in the States you can’t legally consume alcohol until you’re twenty one. And I’m twenty four, so technically, by Earth’s standards, I’m older than you.”
Oh, the look on his face is just priceless. You wish you had a camera. “That is preposterous.”
“Math doesn’t lie, man. Oh my god, if you were normal, you’d be some rich frat boy right now…!”
“I have no comprehension for this term… frat boy… but from your tone of voice I can sure you I most decidedly would not be one.”
You shake your head, a huge grin on your face. “This is hilarious. I’m older than you. I feel like I should give you a lecture on safe driving skills or why you should stay in school.”
Trickster is practically nose to nose with the glass wall of his cell, looking ridiculously frustrated. “I have harnessed the power of an infinity stone to my own whims and you dare insinuate that you outrank me!”
A what now? “What’s an infinity stone? I haven’t heard of that term.”
It’s almost like a light switch flipping off- everything in him visibly shuts down and withdrawals into himself, swallowing everything up as a snake might a rat. “It is nothing. Unimportant.”
The way he stops on a dime is almost scary. Someone who can control their emotions at the drop of a hat like that… well. They usually don’t learn that skill by pleasant means. So you drop it for now, but you do write yourself a little note with a question mark, right next to his ‘human age’ that’s circled in big black marks. “Hey, I was just kidding Trickster. I doubt I outrank you in anything other than, like, random Midgardian trivia. Trust me, even with the handcuffs, you’re still the heavyweight here.”
To your relief, something like life filters back into his face, just a bit. “It would be best you do not forget that, Witling. There will come a day where I could make your life a living nightmare.”
But his voice is so light you just crinkle your nose at him. “Nah, I bet you’d be harmless. I’m the one who kept you entertained all these dark lonely nights after all.”
“I believe I would rather have Mjolnir set on my head.”

Hi, Bye Birdie
I was originally just going to make this into a tumblr shitpost and then I decided… why not make it into a full fanfic? So here you all go, another generous helping of my weird sense of humor.
Rating: K+
Word Count: 1500
Pairing: Raven/Tai (Can you believe it?)
Summary: Raven just couldn’t understand why her classmates were fumbling over themselves just to ask someone to a dance. Seems it was up to her to show everyone how it was really done.
Ao3 Link: Hi, Bye Birdie
Dust crystals clinked softly as Raven rearranged them in the rotary chamber of her sheath, mentally counting the spaces as she made room for the new ones. As she finished adding the two fire dust crystals, she held her hand out to the assistant beside her, demanding, “Lightning.”
Only to receive no response.
She looked over. Summer seemed to be in a bit of a daze, something across the courtyard completely captivating her. Raven followed her sight line, spotting a scene she had to of witnessed at least a dozen times by now since the announcement of the Vytal Festival Dance. It was the same story every time – the first person stumbles their way through some grand, sweeping speech about how honored they’d be if the other person would accompany them to the dance, before presenting them with a little wristband full of flowers. The other accepted, there was all this unnecessary excitement, and they became the talk of the day of ‘you won’t believe who’s going with who!’ until the next couple stole the spotlight.
Compared to the near hysteria everyone was in when James Ironwood of Atlas asked Valedictorian Glynda Goodwitch of all people, it was unlikely Edgar and Lacey would make too many waves in the gossip chain – they were teammates and Edgar had been making googly eyes at her since year one.
Still, Summer sighed as if it was the most wonderful thing and said, “Isn’t it romantic?”
Romantic? Raven rolled her eyes, plucking the crystals from the case herself. “It’s foolish is what it is.”
“How can you say that?!” Summer sounded almost more scandalized then the time Qrow had put a live mouse in her hood because he wanted to make sure the ‘flower princess’ had a woodland creature to talk to.
She pushed the dust into place with a bit more forcefulness than was necessary. “Everyone’s practically tripping over their feet just to ask each other to some stupid social event and treating it like they’re facing off a horde of Grimm when they do it. Give me a break.”
“It’s more than that.” Her friend refuted. “For some of these people, this is the first time they’re admitting their feelings for each other. It’s not just an ‘event’, it’s a date!”
She paused just long enough so Summer could fully absorb the ‘Who cares?’ expression on her face. “So?”
Yet, she wouldn’t be deterred. “You can’t honestly be telling me that if you asked out a guy you liked that you wouldn’t be at least a little nervous?”
“Of course not.” Raven replied, grabbing the earth crystals next.
“Well,” Summer lent forward. “What if he says no?”
“I wouldn’t give him a chance to.” She shot back.
Her friend stared. “What? You can’t just decide that!”
“Can’t I?” Raven said airily. “Love is a battlefield. And when I play, I play to win.”
“Alright. Prove it.” She challenged.
She met her gaze steadily. Summer seemed to study her, nothing about her even slightly implying she believed she could do it. Raven was going to enjoy showing her all this fanfare was just frivolous nonsense.
“Fine. Today, at lunch.” She closed the rotatory chamber with a snap of finality. “I’ll ask the last person who would ever say yes to me. And you’ll see just how dumb all this is.” She got to her feet, slinging the sheath to her waist, motions matching her words as she geared up for battle.
~
Taiyang sat down at one of the lunch tables, listening to Qrow jabber on beside him about his latest scheme on how to make sure the entire student body would be talking about him for weeks.
“Come on man, just picture it.” His teammate carried on, “It’s the end of the assembly. Oz is giving us one of those big speeches he always does and just when he’s about to dismiss us, my voice overtakes his, saying it can’t end until I ask the person of my dreams to the dance. I come up to the stage and turn towards the audience, pointing out towards everyone like I’m going to choose someone out there and go ‘And that person is-’ before I turn around and point at Oz himself!” He cackled maniacally. “Gods, everyone will go nuts!”
“Okay, first of all, how are you going to get a microphone?” Tai said, gesturing with the knife he had been using to cut through his bread roll, “Second of all: Do you want to be expelled?”
“Ah come on, Ozzie’s got a sense of humor. I think.”
He wasn’t so sure. Ozpin always seemed to have a bit of dual personality; amicable and joking one day, cold and indifferent the next. “I dunno man. Doesn’t seem like the spectacle’s worth the risk.”
“Pfft.” Qrow waved him off. “You’re just jealous that I’m going to snag a cute date for the dance while you can’t find the balls to ask your mystery girl.”
The idea of a teacher and student going to the dance together – no matter how little their actual age gap – sent a weird, disgusted shiver down his back. “Gross. And I am going to ask her.”
“Yeah?” He arched a brow. “When?”
“I-Well!” He spluttered out, desperately trying to find a convincing argument in the pool of nothing, “When the time is right!”
“And when the stars align and the flowers bloom and the moon puts itself back together?”
He punched his arm. “Shut up man. You’re the worst. This is why I won’t tell you who it is. You’d be a terrible wingman.”
He also wasn’t entirely sure Qrow could keep it secret from-
“TAIYANG XIAO LONG!”
The shrill made him jump and he turned towards the source, seeing Raven storming down the aisle and straight towards him, Summer right at her heels. Anyone who dared be in her path was quick to jump out of it, frightened, just like he suddenly was, of the fiery expression on her face. Everyone else was twisting around in their seats, eager for the coming bloodbath.
“Oh shit, what’d you do?” Qrow whispered.
Instantly defensive, he hissed back “Nothing!” despite the fact he was rifling through his memories at lightspeed to try and pinpoint what suddenly had her so furious with him. He hadn’t quite found it when she approached the table and nervousness made him start to prattle, “Raven I don’t know wh-”
Before he could finish, she was stepping up onto the bench and then the table, heels drowning out the noise around them as they clacked down as loud as thunder. She placed her hands on her hips, her stare so intense it almost froze him – if not for the fact looking up at her reminded him that she was in a skirt.
Oh gods. He averted his eyes, face burning hot but mostly feeling confused. What was going on? Was she going to kick his lunch in his face or something?
“Taiyang.” Raven repeated, voice lower but still booming over the now silent cafeteria as if she wanted to make certain everyone would hear what she had to say.
Nothing could have prepared him for it.
“You’re taking me to the dance. Am I understood?”
He stared at the corner of the table, not sure he heard that right. “W-What!?” He dared peek her way, blocking her lower half with his hand with the same defiance one would try to prevent being blinded by the sun.
“You heard me.” She said. “You’re taking me, got it?”
“I, but I,” I didn’t want to take you. He thought but couldn’t manage to say.
Yet, as he glanced towards the girl his heart had chosen and saw no heartbreak on Summer’s face as she tried to contain her laughter, he realized maybe that ship never left the port to begin with.
“Well?”
Heavily, he looked back up at Raven’s expectant face, and said the only thing he could: “Yes ma’am.”
She nodded, a satisfied smile quirking her lips as she turned and stepped down from the table. “Good. Wear something nice.” She paused to look back at him, tossing some of her hair over her shoulder. “And get me one of those flower things.”
And then she was walking away, acting as if nothing had happened at all. Summer trailed after her, giggling madly, “Oh my god Rae!”
“Told you it was easy.” Was the last thing he heard her say before the roar of the cafeteria picked back up with a new fervor. The gossip was going to be on overdrive this week.
Tai sat there, baffled beyond belief as he asked to the air, “What… just happened?”
Qrow placed a hand on his shoulder. “Your funeral.” He announced solemnly. “It was nice knowing you buddy.”
Unable to refute the claim, he only groaned, dropping his head into his hands.
He was taking Raven Branwen to the dance.
His life was over.

D&D - Bardic Consolation
So @colonelcupquake had a bad week. @urdnotgrunt had a bad week. I love their bards, Silk and Cas. This result only seemed natural.
I like to imagine that Silk and Cas just randomly happen upon each other here and again, and probably not-so-secretly love the little flashes of rivalry that happen. Here’s one that turns out a little differently than usual.
About 1500 words.
Casimir caught the first glimpse of them barely ten feet through the gates of the city.
It wasn’t much - just a flash of blue skin, of white hair, of a billowing shirt sleeve that disappeared around the corner - but his legs were moving almost before he had even registered what he’d seen.
“Cas?” Fizz’s voice rose from behind him, growing steadily louder as he moved. “Cas! Hey, Cas! Where are you going?”
“I'll catch up later,” he called back, barely turning over his shoulder to wave her off before he ducked around a corner and out of earshot. Ahead, he could just make out the slender form of Silk turning down a nearby street and hurried quietly after them.
Five minutes and several more winding streets later, Casimir rounded a corner and caught the last flash of white hair disappearing into a small, rough-hewn wooden building that was starting to lean ever so slightly to the left. The sign outside depicted a tankard spilling over at the rim, with “The Flowing Flagon” carved in an unsteady hand beneath. Casimir slowed to a halt in the shadow of an alleyway, letting his breathing even out as he eyed the place over. It was a grimy little spot, hardly at all like the grand, silk-adorned rafters of Silk’s usual haunts; but they were here, and they had a discerning eye for a good stage that even Casimir could admit appreciating, so there must have been something for it.
He couldn’t rightly stroll in several seconds after they had though, out of breath and clutching his lute like some mad disciple chasing them down, so he made himself to linger for a few long, painful minutes in the shadows. Then he cinched up the lute at his shoulder, combed the last of the windswept curls out of his hair, and pushed his way into the tavern’s crooked doorway.
His first warning was the silence. Conversations droned on around him in hushed, low voices,  but there was no music playing, no wannabe bard or untalented wretch to heckle off of the stage and take command of. There were just an array of small, round tables scattered across the floor, and a few bedraggled day drinkers whose sole focus seemed to be their cups. Silk was seated at a table on the far side of the room well away from anyone else, their back to the door, slumped forward onto a hand in such a blatant display of misery that Casimir froze in the doorway and began cursing every decision that had brought him there.
The sensible part of him, the louder part, told him to simply back up and shoulder his way right back out into the street. No one but the barkeep had seen him after all, and he could certainly afford one disgruntled tavern owner on his conscious. But there was another voice too, this one loud and plying and utterly refusing to be ignored, and for a second time, he found his legs carrying him forward without his say so.
He did not wrest control of them again until he had already pulled a chair away from Silk’s table. They sat upright with a start as he set his lute case beside him, their eyes wide and flitting like startled birds from his face to his shoulders to the case at his side. Then they relaxed, and smiled, and looked so weary for it that Casimir nearly bolted again.
“We have to stop meeting like this,” they said after a moment, sinking back into their chair. Casimir found the wherewithal to shrug.
“We could, if you’d stop following us,” he said, ignoring the same little voice that so helpfully reminded him about every street that he had spent the last half hour stalking through. Silk snorted.
“And what’s to say you’re not following me, hm?” they asked. “I happen to be the one with throngs of adoring fans to their name, of the two of us -”
“Because I’m not leading the way,” Casimir interrupted with a thin smile. “All I’ve been doing is following Fizz’s direction. If you’ve got a problem with the route, take it up with her.”
“A problem? Gods, no. But that explains it, then. She’s always had better taste than you.”
They smirked at one another, their introductory bout of wits completed, and then fell into a companionable silence as they surveyed the room around them. Out of the corner of his eye, Casimir saw Silk’s grin creep away, inch by miserable inch, until the silence around them soured into something thick and stifling. He glanced back towards the door, suddenly, keenly aware that he had not yet given himself any room to escape. Little voice and little growing conscience be damned, he had never once been capable of dealing with fickle things like feelings, and it certainly didn’t seem likely that he would start now.
He had made it halfway through forming an excuse to leave when Silk finally sighed and sank back down onto an elbow.
“If you came looking for a proper fight,” they said quietly, “I’m afraid that you’re going to have to go elsewhere. I’m….I’m not much in the mood for it.”
He stole a glance back towards them almost on instinct. Their focus had turned down to the grain of the rough wooden table beneath their elbow, and through the weave of their hair, he could see the tinge of red around their eyes, the dark circles that wreathed them. The little voice came back again, quiet now but insistent as ever. Casimir took a deep breath.
“Who said anything about that?” he said, summoning a theatrical huff. “I’m here for a drink.”
He punctuated his point by gesturing to the barkeep - two, strong - then reclined back into his chair and folded his arms over his chest. Silk chuckled, and their wan look faded into something Casimir could charitably call a smile.
“Are you now?” they asked. “Then why exactly are you at my table? As you might imagine, I’m not much in the mood for talking either.”
“No,” said Casimir, “but I thought you might be in the mood for entertaining. You’re a bard; I hear you’re supposed to be good at that.”
He only just managed to keep the wince off of his face as the words left him, but if Silk took any offense at all, they certainly didn’t show it. Instead, their smile broadened, and they propped a second elbow onto the table.
“Well, well. Are you begging my audience now, Casimir?” they asked, leaning forward with a slyness that Casimir felt slide warmly down his spine. He hid his shiver under a shrug.
“I’m just hoping you’ve done something interesting enough to warrant a good story,” he said, as nonchalantly as he could manage. “Something that would to keep the attention of someone who, I don’t know, charted a path through the feywild and made it out unscathed?”
He grinned as Silk raised an eyebrow, but they caught themself quickly enough to bury it beneath a theatrical scoff.
“That’s it?” they asked, and tossed a lock of hair over their shoulder. “I got marooned on an island and convinced the locals to repair the ship with my wit and charm alone. I’m told they would have killed a person of lesser skill.”
They passed him a pointed look across the table as they said it, and Casimir leaned forward, propping his own elbow on the table.
“I broke a friend out of a maximum security prison,” he challenged.
“I’ve survived a run in with sirens and a talking whale,” said Silk, grinning.
“Fought two wereboars and didn’t get cursed.”
“Talked my way out of a fight with a hill giant!”
“I,” said Casimir with a triumphant flourish, “went to the Hells. And got out in a matter of hours.”
“Bullshit.” Silk sank back into their seat with a dismissive wave. “No one just takes a day trip to the Nine Hells, not even when they’ve got familial relations there. Come on Cas, the game is to make me believe you.”
“Game?” Casimir said, pressing a hand to his chest. “And here I thought we were just swapping stories. As with everything else I’ve said, this is entirely true. You weren’t lying, were you Silk?”
The scandal in his voice did it; Silk’s feigned disappointment suddenly vanished, replaced with a very real snort of laughter that they did a valiant job of hiding behind a hand. Casimir looked on, grinning, and tried to ignore the little spot in his chest that warmed with satisfaction. Little voice and little growing conscious be damned; he didn't need their help anyway.
“Well,” Silk said when they had finally collected themself. “That's certainly something. You really aren’t lying, are you?”
“I can honestly say that I wish I was,” said Casimir, chuckling. “But no. Ask Fizz: she’ll tell you all about the ten demons I wrestled my quarterstaff away from.”
"Now that I don't believe," Silk said, as the barkeep appeared with two very full tankards that sloshed onto the table as he set them down. They pulled one to their side of the table without waiting for the offer, and learned in close.
"You've been honest enough so far, though," they said with a sly smile. "I could stand to hear you tell it."

A Thousand Words
Tuesday, August 24, 2010.  9:34PM
So I sit here wondering what to write.  I find myself starting to write, “right” instead which makes me smile and think,  ‘There we go again.”  I like the wordplay.  The supposed mistake that fit and supply what seems to be a truer meaning.  Before I began typing I was thinking of what JG said in writing class of what makes for boring writing and not. It was similar to a recent event that involved Rock goddess Pat Benatar and Robin Leach They were both on Howard Stern’s radio show, and after Benatar recounted her family-centered, scandal-free life, Stern suggested booking her for a “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” segment. “She just spent 20 minutes telling you how boring she is,” Leach countered. “Why would I do that?”
Write from the deep voice.  Write from what you know.  Right now I know “right.”  Right from the deep voice.  Right from what you know.
I began writing this as friend of mine, hearing of what happened between Renee and I, suggested that I write about it.  I thought it was a good idea and began to do so.  I also began to wonder was I telling everything.  Should I ask the other members of the team to help remember what went on?  Would people get weird about me writing what had happened, at least from my perspective?
If I wrote from my heart as to what I felt was going on, would it be accepted as such?
I hear the writing teachers and critics say “boring” I hear as to what is write and what is wrong.  And soon there are contradictions.  It makes me begin to think how words are tricky.  How a lot of alcoholics, drinkers and pot smokers I know seem to have an excellent facility with words…controlling, manipulating the space.  It’s confusing.  So clear and so fucked up.  So orderly.  Is it to get another drink?  Another hit?  Attention?
I hear what I herd 20 years ago.  40 years ago.  See, I have to go backwards into a past.  My past.  Which in a doing and changing Universe seems insane. I am off track says the writing teacher.  Milk the deep voice.  I have a history that is irrelevant to look back upon and source for material.  I have marked the moments that stood out.  Those that were relevant.  I am going with that story. These events are alive and reenter consciousness when a moment asks for it. Each time the event is slightly shaded, as it has come through having completed its orbit.  Slightly worn. Evermore wise.
I felt that once. Ideas seem to be sent out to space among the stardust, orbit and return.  I don’t know what the writing teacher would think of that.  The moment where I felt and became aware that everything was happening the way I wanted it.  The moment I felt and became aware that everyone is living a life of grace and elegance and that they are doing it there way. What would a writing teacher think of that?
So Renee was my beloved.  She has since then made her presence known to me in my dreams.  Our 5 months together seemed like a lifetime. After she left her body, this passage together also felt expanded, expanding, and expansioned.
I look at the word count.  551 words.  The goal is to get to 1500 tonight.  Much I’ve written so far is the “what happened” during Renee and my physical relationship.  There has also been some event that happened previous to our being together that related to us.  I am reticent to go back to those times.  Who cares.  My ass is put on the line.  In front of critics, writing teachers, suffering addicts and more.  And I will be criticized for being unspiritual for saying even that.
Well gang.  This is a story of love.  This is a story of there was, is and will be enough to go around for everybody.  This is the story of Jesus. Of dreams coming true. Of healing.  It’s a story of discovery.  Expansion.  Calling.  Vision. It’s a story of suffering vanishing as one discovers learning.  It’s a story of transcendence.  How love is a driving force in Universe.  It’s a story about magic.  Timing.  What one can do above and beyond what one ever thought was possible.  In the name of love.  It’s a story about warrior caring.  Of how we are constantly expanding whether we like it or not.
Early on doing a yoga practice.  I am breathing and feeling energy/sensation moving into, through, and out my body with each inhale and exhale.  I cannot deny this.  I say to myself, “I am not going to wait around until science proves this. I am not going to deny the dreams with Blessed Mary, Native American grandfathers, Timothy Leary, Ken Kesey and Buckminster Fuller.  I am not going to deny the dream of people who who have left their bodies coming back in dreams to finish what was needed to be finished or to make their presence felt.  I am not going to deny the serendipity of larger events being a backdrop to then current events in my life. I am not going to deny waking up and finding myself pouring energy through my arms into my lovers’ body next to me probably to keep her cancer in remission until she discovers the lump in her breast a year later.”
Renee loved me.  I loved her.  We woke every morning and individually blessed each other, ourselves and the relationship itself.
I would finish with, “may the channels of communication between us remain open.  May the playing fields remain clear.”  Our senses are so sure of themselves with their existence shaped over millions of years.  I wonder if they have been shaped as a means of keeping our bodies in existence and survival. And now, like it or not, in an age of abundance, our senses continue to be shaped in ways that are more accepting, more receptive, more use-full and more response-able.
It’s 10:48PST.  I’ve reached a thousand words. I am tired. I am going to bed.

Happy Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day!
It’s another fic rec list! Here’s last years, which includes a link to my 2016 recommendations. They are all amazing, so you should definitely check them out, but in the mean time, here’s some more. I tried to tag most of the ships and/or fandoms, so if you ship any of those or are in the fandom, check out the recs below the cut. Of course, there are plenty more amazing fanfictions/writers out there, and to them, I give a huge THANK YOU! Finally, for the shameless plug, if you have any interest in any of my stories, links can be found here.
Arms Extended (Gen, Bandstand) AO3 [Complete]
a remix of “welcome home (finale)”
(or: the moments that inspired the lines of julia's poem)
Bandstand on the whole deserves more love, attention, and fanfiction, especially because the relationship these people build is so beautiful and there’s so much to be explored. This fic does it BEAUTIFULLY, and I can’t stress it enough. TW: I mean it’s Bandstand so anything that applies there applies here
Cut, Print, Moving On (Gen, Smash) AO3 || FF [In progress]
An imagined third season, starting approximately two years after the Tony Awards.
This fic is perfectly written and explores all of Smash’s complicated, messy, great relationships, romantic and otherwise, beautifully.
Epic Love (Han x Leia, Star Wars) AO3 || FF [Complete]
Here is what is believed: that Leia Organa has been abandoned by her husband and her brother, the two men who loved her best, in her time of greatest need. But things are not always as they seem. A TFA fix-it fic about family, the Force, and the love that could save the galaxy. Again. Also features Luke, Chewbacca, Rey, Finn, and mentions or cameos by several others.
I love the new Star Wars movies, I do. But this fic treats Han, Leia, and Luke so much better than TFA does. Please go read this pure perfection of a work and give it all the love it deserves. While you’re at it, check out... Everything else @lajulie24 has written; it’s all golden.
Everything I Never Knew (Emmett x Rosalie, Twilight) AO3 || FF [Complete]
Because sometimes a split second decision changes a life… One night, Rosalie Hale walked a different way home. Because of this, she didn’t meet Royce on the road and the worst night of Rosalie’s life happened to someone else. So what happened when Rosalie was never hurt, never turned vampire, and got everything she had always thought she wanted?
I love a good AU, and Rosalie and Emmett seem the best suited for one. Their connection is amazing and well-written and honestly, everything makes sense to me. I lowkey wish things could have played out this way for them, but alas, they didn’t, so let’s read fic instead. TW: Spousal abuse, bear attack so like blood and stuff
hey baby (i think i wanna marry you) (Donna x Josh, The West Wing) FF [Complete]
Josh goes to dinner with his old law school study group. He ends up defending the institution of marriage, before going home to Donna. Set in the Santos administration.
It’s just such a cute, fluffy little piece. How could I not, you know?
in a storm in my best dress (Percy x Annabeth, Percy Jackson and the Olympians) AO3 || FF [Complete]
"Point is, Percy's not used to being swamped in friends. So you can bloody well imagine his shock when he wakes up one morning and looks impulsively at his arm and there’s one, two, three, four, five, six, seven Marks on his line and holy crap the seventh is a soulmate mark."
or, Percy finds it difficult to make friends and Annabeth is the popular girl with a heart of steel. Soulmate AU.
Not gonna lie, this is a behemoth-- two chapters that come out at like 70k which like, damn, most of my one-shots aren’t even 1500 words, you get props for that alone. However, every word is perfect. There’s lot of pining, and hey, Percy Jackson with anxiety? Works. I saw my own anxiety reflected all over the place which... Was not the main reason I fell in love with this fic, but it’s nice to be recognized, you know? No, I fell in love with this fic because it’s about falling in love and making friends and growing up. And it’s beautiful, so go read it. TW: Anxiety attacks (Is that a tw? Oh well)
Miracles, etc. (Wanda Maximoff x Vision, Marvel Cinematic Universe) AO3 [In progress]
Wanda Maximoff’s life has been a set of frightening miracles: living in a war torn country as an orphan, escaping her anarchistic biological father, and surviving the American foster system with seven older foster siblings. Now 26 and working as a hotel waitress, Wanda has very distant plans for love and for a child. Unfortunately, her complicated life is about to get more complicated when a medical mix-up leaves her artificially inseminated with a stranger’s sperm. That stranger? Her boss, with an equally dark past.
Now pregnant- and possibly falling in love- Wanda finds herself with only nine months to rethink her entire future. Because the only thing more frightening than a miracle… is parenthood.
Did you know that a Jane The Virgin AU is EXACTLY everything you ever needed for this fandom, and specifically this pairing? My depression is cured, my skin is clear, and my crops are thriving, especially now that there’s new chapters again. Read this fic, please. It will not disappoint, especially if you enjoy JTV’s tongue-in-cheek style humor. Also dad!Clint.
My Beauty, My Baby (Gen, Downton Abbey) FF [Complete]
Cora and Sybil share a moment on the eve of the birth of Sybil and Tom's child. This story takes place in Season 3, sometime between Episodes 4 and 5. This is a bit of a departure for me, but the title words were an inspiration.
This is just so lovely. Sybil and Cora’s relationship is, I feel, kind of unexplored, so this was such a lovely treat.
people can surprise you (or not) (Anya x Dmitry, Anastasia) AO3 [Complete]
He's a poor joke of a journalist, she has something to prove to her family, and they're in here for a hell of a ride.
(“You’re asking me to be an asshole to some random woman just to prove a very sexist and offensive point like I’m some guy on Reddit who has no idea women are actually people?”)
(“Next Wednesday. I bet you can’t find a guy tonight, in this bar, and keep him until next Wednesday. Prove me wrong and introduce him to Nana during the gala. As your boyfriend.”)
OR, the reversed How to lose a guy in 10 days AU nobody asked, but everybody gets.
Angst, fluff, pining, misunderstandings, this has got it ALL. And it’s written flawlessly to boot.
Take Me Back To Me (Mary x Matthew, Downton Abbey) AO3 || FF [Complete]
When heiress Mary Crawley finds herself in the headlines for her third scandal of the year, Cora decides that it is time for Mary to turn her public image around. The solution? Hire humanitarian lawyer Matthew Crawley, whose new charity just happens to need a new donation, to play Mary’s boyfriend. (Modern Mary/Matthew!Fake Dating AU)
Were you aware you needed a modern fake dating AU for these two? No. But you do. It cleanses the soul with its perfectness. Go read it. TW: Descriptions of past not quite rape but I think it’s still classified as sexual assault
The Only Crime Is To Lose (Gen, Game of Thrones) AO3 [I think in-progress?]
The series doesn’t have a description, so here’s my attempt at one: The major houses of Westeros are crime families at war. This author expertly adapts the plotting and relationships into this scenario, which takes place after the Red Wedding-- which, in this world, involved Robb getting arrested and put away for life-- and most of the action surrounds the kidnapping of Jaime Lannister, though no one knows who did it. I’m not actually certain if this series is finished or not, but it leaves me reeling from unanswered questions and its overall beauty every time I finish the last story, so you should check it out so we can all share the pain. TW: I mean it’s Game of Thrones so like a lot of that stuff still applies
Treading Water (Annie x Finnick, The Hunger Games) AO3 || FF [Complete]
They don't tell you when you go into the arena that the lucky ones are those who die.
I don’t think I can state enough how amazing this fic is. The beautiful relationship between Finnick and Annie, the breathtaking way Catching Fire is woven into the story, and seeing the Games from the mentor’s perspective is fascinating. Go read this fic! TW: It’s the Hunger Games so anything from the books applies
we got the world (Jesse x Beca, Pitch Perfect) AO3 || FF [Complete]
"They say you're a freak when we're having fun, say you must be high when we're spreading love, but we're just living life and we never stop, we've got the world." Beca/Jesse, post-Kennedy Center flop. A series of missing Jeca moments from Pitch Perfect 2. COMPLETE.
Did you wish there had been more Jeca in Pitch Perfect 2? Then read this fic. It’s perfect in every way. (Written before PP3 though, so not canon compliant for that).
Willow (Anya x Dmitry, Anastasia) AO3 [In progress]
In a city by the sea, Anya and Dmitry find their footing.
Beautiful, happy Dimya, plus dashes of you know, revolution and angst and history. It’s gorgeous and perfect and go read it.

Alexander? Meet Alexander.
Prompt: I was speaking with my best friend & partner in crime & A. Ham on this blog the other day, and we had this awesome idea. It is kinda based on the Van Gogh Doctor Who episode, it is my favorite...
Summary: Alexander Hamilton has somewhat escaped the duel and ended up...in 2015?
Word count: 1500
Warnings: none, maybe a swear word, I don’t remember. Y/N stands for your name, obviously.
Disclaimer: I had to set it in 2015 so that: a. Lin was still Hamilton; and b. Duel anniversary. It is my first Hamilton/Lin x reader fic so I’m sorry if it sucks....I’m not really expecting much but I had this idea on the top of my head and I just had to write it down, because, well. I am not throwing away my shot!
I hope you like this!
-J. Laurens
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
Alexander was facing Aaron, probably for the last time. The two men were looking each other in the eyes, a look that seemed to say “I don’t want this, but it is the only way”. Aaron was determined not to die, his jaw was clenched. Alexander was strangely calm, his glasses on. He seemed old, the death of his son ruined him, the scandals he contributed to create didn’t help his family; Alexander was helpless. He had nothing to lose, not anymore. He was ready and willing to die. They silently turned, and started to count to ten while walking in position, then turned. It all happened so fast, Alexander saw all his life pass in front of him; he was willing to let it go, but then he saw Eliza, and felt a weird wind blow in his face, saw the world spin around him and felt like fainting. He was dying. Hell, he probably was dead.
“Sir? Sir, are you ok?” you said, nudging the body with a stick you found in the nearby. Alexander opened his eyes, he was alive! But who were you? Where was Burr? Why on earth were you dressed with PANTS? Alexander pointed his gun at you and you lifted your arms in surrender. “Dude, chill. I’m here to help you. By the way, you are kind of sleeping on a monument, so get up before the cops will come and get you.” You said, offering him a hand. He took it, then bowed and introduced himself “I’m Alexander Hamilton, at your service, m’lady.” Your first reaction was laugh. “Yeah, you are Alexander Hamilton, sure. Didn’t know they changed the actor.” You were fan of the musical, and you didn’t get this guy. Alexander Hamilton died 211 years ago, he couldn’t be standing in front of you. “I don’t know who you are, but I am Alexander Hamilton, I’m not an actor. I was dueling against- “He said, buy you rudely interrupted him saying: “-Aaron Burr, Burr shot you, he stroke right between you ribs, you died in the arms of Angelica and Eliza. I know. Everyone knows your story, you are like on Broadway and on the 10-dollar bill. Everyone knows your story. Now come on, before someone sees you with that gun.” You told him to disarm the gun and give it to you, then you took his hand and guided him to your apartment. You were unlocking the door when you heard him clear his throat “Yes?” you turned, looking at him “I don’t think this is appropriate, miss. I don’t even know who you are and where I am. Why should I enter your house?” he said, you froze and remembered you didn’t introduce yourself. “Oh, pardon. Sir. My name is [Y/N]. And we are in New York. Please, come in, have a glass of water.” You said, while unlocking the door and stepping inside. He looked the apartment and stepped in, unsure of what he had to do. He mirrored your actions and removed his boots, placing them neatly next to the door, then he lifted his gaze towards you, who briefly smiled at him and gestured to follow in your kitchen. “Have a seat.” You said, leaning against the sink. He asked for a glass of water, which you gave to him with a smile. “So, Mr. Hamilton. What happened? How did you arrive there?” You asked, plopping on a chair, your elbows on the table and your chin on your hands. “I was…shot, by Aaron Burr. My vision started to blur and it all started to spin and then you woke me up. I think it was the same spot of the duel. What day are we?” “July 12, 2015. It’s the anniversary of the duel, Mr. Hamilton.” You said, then excused yourself. You were friend with one of the swings of the Public Theatre, who offered you tickets if you wanted to see it, so you phoned her.
“Hey Lily. It’s me [Y/N]” you said. “[Y/N], hey! How are you?” “I’m good, thanks. Do you think you could make me a favour? Get me two tickets for Hamilton for like, tonight?” you said, hoping for a yes. You really had to speak with Lin-Manuel. You loved the man and thought that maybe, letting him meet Alexander was a great idea. “Yes, of course I can! But I’ll expect you backstage, you and your companion…” She said, you could practically hear her smirk. “Thanks! You’re my saviour! See you later!” “Later!”
A moment later you were back at Alexander, you told him to go and take a shower, you had to explain how to use one because he didn’t know, same with the toilet, and then gave him some clothes that belonged to some previous boyfriend and took him out to shop for some clothes that would fit him better and that would be appropriate for the play. Alexander almost died when he saw his face on the $10 bill.
You two made your way back to your apartment and you both got dressed in your fancy clothes. Almost half an hour before the play begun, you two were already in front of the Public Theatre, let inside by the security guy who had your name and a “plus one”. You two took your seats and waited for the play to begin. Alexander didn’t understand why his name was all around the place, and you just hoped for having took the good decision. You were lost in your train of thoughts when the familiar tune of the opening started to play. You felt yourself smiling and clapping along. It was the first time you were seeing it, with your work at the Natural History Museum and the lectures at NYU you really didn’t have found the time to go and see it; but Lily had managed to make you listen to it and make you become obsessed.
Soon, there was the break and you turned to Alexander, who was shocked and was crying. “This…I…” he managed to say “Shhh, everything is fine, Mr. Hamilton, everything is fine.” You said, awkwardly patting his arm in sign of support.
Act two began and you found yourself humming and singing along. Alexander sometimes muttered things like “this is not really what happened” or “She was already married”, but most of the time you found him smiling and keeping the beat with his shoe against the floor. When “Say No To This” came up, he blushed, feeling a bit of shame for what he did. Then Philip died and he was crying, as if his son was dying for a second time. During “It’s Quiet Uptown” he cried again, begging Eliza for forgiveness.
When the musical ended and the actors bowed, he stood up and cheered louder than the others; he turned towards you and thanked you, you just lowered your head and smiled a shy smile, then took his hand and went backstage, where Lily was waiting for you.
“Lily!” You said, hugging your friend, “Hey [Y/N]! How are you! Did you like it?” she asked hugging you back “I loved it! It is even more beautiful, if possible. This is Alexander,” you said, introducing the Man himself to your friend. He smiled and took her hand, then kissed it. Lily blushed and bowed. “I’m Lily, nice to meet you. Come with me, the cast would like to meet you! I told Lin so much about you-“ “You did what?!” you said, but before she could reply, Lin himself appeared in front of you. “Lin! I was coming to see you! This is my friend, [Y/N]. And that’s her friend Alexander.” Lily said, you two shook hands with Lin and Lily went away, leaving you three alone. “Mr Miranda, sorry to bother you but I really had to come and see you,” you started. “Please, call me Lin. And why exactly?” He said, crossing his arms. “I am Alexander Hamilton. And I would like to thank you, sir. For remembering me.” Alexander said. Lin looked like as if he had just seen a ghost. Alexander was crying and thanking Lin, who was crying as well and hugging the Founding Father. “Sir, I believe in destiny, and I say that it is destiny that made this thing happen. Thank you so much sir.” Lin said. They were talking about Hamilton’s own life, and for once, you knew you had done the right thing.
After the big talk, you returned at home with Alexander, you two hugged as if you were old friends and went to sleep, you offered him your spare room. The morning after, though, the man was gone. He had written you a letter. It wasn’t a dream, but a sort of short time spell-time travel. He had returned to his time and nothing had changed, except the fact that he had mentioned him in his will, and Eliza had remembered you as the angel who saved him.

Stella Carrier Script Stories Law of Attraction Edition Script Four Thursday June 29, 2017
Stella Carrier Script Stories Law of Attraction Edition Script Four Thursday June 29, 2017
The timeframe is now January 1, 2019. I Stella Carrier am so elated to now have over 12, 500 dollars in my Bank of America and Sun Trust checking accounts. I am now repaying my federal student loans (Great Lakes) and Sallie Mae Navient (Freshview Solutions) at least the minimum student loan payments with plenty of money to help my husband Rusty pay the rent, groceries, more money to put in savings. I am also elated to report that I reached my goal of consistently walking at least 10 miles a day at least 5 to 6 days out of the week by August 1, 2017 and I was running at least 3 miles of those 10 miles for also at least 5-6 days out of the week by November 1, 2017 and I reached the body weight that I had when I was 23 years old by this timeframe. By November 16, 2017 I was consistently making at least 1500 dollars after taxes each month and some of that money from successful side hustles and my job. By December 1, 2017 I achieved my goal of saving over 1800 dollars after taxes even after making/applying at least the minimum payment amounts on my student loans. I follow my intuition and logic to be discreet about where each of the money sources came from and what amounts for good reason. Some of my profitable story ideas came from me intuitively and logically picking up ideas from some of my Amazon reviews and the eclectic music that I listen to. Additionally, by my birthday November 8, 2017 I found out some interesting news that was selected into my top choice online school/college for studying in an online second bachelors degree program in public relations related courses that allows me to take  one course at a time while working full time in order to allow me plenty of time to successfully work full time and go to school. I give my best in service and customer service in my job at the University of Maryland College Park in order to contribute my best for my coworkers and customers. I also become more creative each day which helps me in both my professional and personal life for both present and future.  For instance I Would Connect the song Pure Imagination by Barbara Streisand and Seth McFarlane and combine it with the idea of the Cleaner film to think up a story of a talented writer who also happens to work as a cleaner for both law enforcement and who eventually opened their own business to also have their own cleaning business for theater companies popular for doing imaginative plays. Pairing the Song Everybody Wants to Rule the World by tears for fears, an applied intelligence college program, with the Cooking Fever Game and Now 40 music collection would give me an idea to craft a story idea around psychologists and college professors who go to a music festival that is also known for their cooking contests and etc. One of the trip organizers would also be a federal employee studying applied intelligence in college. I also make money from a story listed via a penname of a college instructor who teaches classes for both intelligence and public relations classes while working as a music deejay on the weekend putting out various songs from different music genres and using music compilations as guides on what can be fun to play. I use the theme song of Believer by Imagine Dragons to be one of the multiple themes of that college instructor’s life.I also enjoy a strong connection to my celestial/heavenly higher self and celestial/heaven spirit ally team that helps me to further connect to and increase my intuition, my genius powers/unlimited potential, and my imaginative talents for a more developed imagination. I have also been traveling successfully to different heaven realms in my sleep.

I believe in myself and my path.
I believe I can grow instantly, and I do.
My psychic abilities and intuition expand each day.
I am creating heaven on earth
I’m aware of when to create opportunities for myself and that when one door closes many more doors open.
I contribute to the best of my ability regardless of the reception I receive for doing so.

I  admit that it was my husband who influenced me to be interested in this  terrific song Believer by Imagine Dragons. Believer by Imagine Dragons has  the perfect blend mashup of rock music and elements of indie rock. I still  have yet to make out the full meaning of this song, yet I am guessing that it  has something to do with feeling empowered andor powerful, being always ready  to face life and rush towards making the best out of life regardless of what  transpires.

I admit that this song Feels by  Calvin Harris feat. Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, and Big Sean has a very  summery and electronic feel to it. I admit that I still have yet to decipher  the full meaning of the song but I am guessing that Feels has something to do  with carefree fun andor love.

The Cleaner stars Samuel L Jackson as  Tom Cutler, a business owner of a crime scene cleanup operation. Cutler  juggles his business with being a single father to his daughter Rose Cutler  (Keke Palmer) who he is close to. Tom Cutler’s life changes dramatically when  he is asked to clean up a murder scene that belongs to the home of Ann Norcut  (Eva Mendes). Cutler unknowingly becomes embroiled in a cover up scandal that  has him understandably keep his guard up with law enforcement employees Eddie  Lorenzo (Ed Harris) and Detective Jim Vargas (Luis Guzman). Of course, there  are other actors and actresses involved in this very serious type of film.  The caveat to the Cleaner is that some people who have read quite a few  fiction books may be adept at guessing who is responsible for the cover up  early on. For instance, my husband has read a significant amount of science  fiction stories and he accurately made a guess early in the film who he  thought was responsible for the cover-up. He still watched a significant  portion of the Cleaner film with me as it has a suspenseful plot, it is just  that I had to admit the one caveat that other highly observant people such as  my husband might pick up.

This review is  from: As It Is in Heaven (Amazon Video)
I’m very aware that I’m far from the  target audience for this film, yet the writer in me indirectly influenced my  interest in this film. Additionally, seeing one of the locations  (Austria)pertaining to the movie plots of this film got my husband and I  talking about the location as he has family members on his mother’s side who  live in Austria. Additionally,I admit that I more or less decided to check  out the film As It Is in Heaven because it was listed to be one of the films  that Michael Nyqvist starred in as music conductor Daniel Dareus. The  character of Daniel Dareus has a very difficult childhood before going on to  achieve much music accomplishments. After coming close to death, Daniel  Dareus ends up moving back to a small town in Sweden where he grew up and  meeting church pastor Stig (Niklas Falk) . His life is changed even further  when he is invited to help other various church members with their choir  singing Lena (Frida Hallgren), Inger (Ingela Olsson), Arne (Lennart Jahkel),  Siv (Ylva Loof), Gabriela (Helen Sjoholm). The lives of some of the church  members are very dramatic to say the least . The character of Holmfridd  (Mikhael Rahm) has to endure unnecessary taunting from fellow church goer  Arne over his weight. Inger is married to Stig, loves him a lot, and she  bravely confronts him about some of the vices he has as more of a loving way  to try to help him see that he is harder on himself than necessary. Gabriela  enjoys participating in the church choir but has to go through so much just  to be able to do this because of the dynamics with her husband Connie (Per  Morberg). Arne has a relative named Tore (Andre Sjoberg) who shows interest  in joining the choir group one day and some of the other members are  reluctant to accept him until Daniel helps convince them to allow Tore to  join. Lena is the character in the group with a heart of gold who treats  other people in a considerate manner yet she also has to endure much  judgement from Siv who like Stig is harsher on herself than she has to be.

I am so glad to have unexpectedly  come across this song Sunny Days by Armin Van Buuren feat. Josh Cumbee through  youtube. The message of the song is beautiful and is pretty much about  looking forward and believing in better times, hence the sunny days message.  This song Sunny Days is also a gorgeous music blend of dance, electronic, and  futuristic pop melodies.

I confess that I have to credit  another writer/author by the name of Joseph Malam who wrote the kindlebook  for A Quick Guide For Making Contact With a Higher Intelligence for giving me  the idea to check out this book Thavis is Here by Harry Homewood. The only  caveat to this book is that not every chapter is dedicated to the contact  that author makes with his spirit guide Thavis. Some of the other chapters  are spent with Homewood trying to explain his proof for why and how he made  contact. Some of the ideas that were very helpful for someone like me; the  soul does not actually decide whether to return to reincarnation back on  earth, reincarnate into another world, or stay in the spirit realm until  after they pass away. This alone was more helpful than I realized because I  came across some sources that implied that you have to reincarnate unless you  were a highly advanced soul andor other unique sources that left that question  wide open. A technique is given for how to deal with andor neutralize an  earth-bound or what the author calls an errant spirit who tries to interfere  when you are close to making contact with your spirit guide(s). Encouraging  information is given that everyone is capable of making contact with their  spirit guide and accessing their psychic abilities but that some people are  obviously more gifted at this than others. This was important for someone  like me to hear because once again I have sometimes came across well-meaning  sources that would place a hierarchy on the type of people who usually  develop their intuitive abilities andor connect with their spirit guides.  Homewood makes it clear that some people will successfully make direct  contact with their spirit guides right away while for others it may take 6  months or longer. I admit that up until getting this book I actually thought  that only a select few people can actually see what their spirit guides look  like while they are alive on this earth and that usually one does not see  what their main spirit guide looks like until after they die. However,  according to this book, many people are actually capable of seeing what their  spirit guides actually look like when they are alive once they work more on their  spiritual development. One must also give themselves the time and opportunity  to write as Harry Homewood ties some of his information on making contact  with the idea of writing. Even as an open-minded woman, what does make this  book a little eerie and maybe prescient is the fact that this book delves a  little into the afterlife, it came out in June 12, 1978 and the author passed  away in 1984 (his death listed via the website source goodreads). Yes, I  understand that death is not something to be feared, it is just that I found  it eerie that the author passed away around 6 years after making this book.

This Amazon playlist of Now That’s  What I Call Music 4 has an eclectic mix of music from the late 1990s. I know  that I am showing my age by saying this but I remember a multiple number of  these catchy hits from my senior year in high school (yes, I am the Class of  2000). There is a wide range of pop, R&B, dance, and rock on this  collection. The songs Candy by Mandy Moore, I Need to Know by Marc Anthony, I  Knew I Loved You by Savage Garden, I Wanna Know by Joe, Waiting For Tonight  by Jennifer Lopez, and Meet Virginia by Train are some of the guilty pleasure  songs that I enjoyed from this collection. As a matter of fact, I confess  that I was listening to Candy by Mandy Moore less than a few days ago when I  was going on one of my fitness walks outside (my husband likes the Candy song  too). However, there are a wide variety of songs for various people on this  Amazon playlist of Now That’s What I Call Music 4.

Episode 1: Queering the Word
Welcome to QueerStory Podcast, where we will explore LGBTQ history and the reclamation generation of Queers. I am oso, and I have trimmed a lot of weed while listening to a lot of podcasts to get to this point.
As we know history is written by the hetero-cis society, white dominated society, the Eurocentric, the state, the police, the priests. That melange of half-truths, lies, and manipulations is not what you will find here.
Queerstory is the history they try to erase, the history they keep off the census, the history they alter and colonize. We are the living queer stories who will not be erased. Welcome to this podcast!
Today I want to explore the reclamation of the word Queer and the movements towards and away from it. The history of the words we reclaim.
Let’s talk about these words. If some of them are triggering for folks: here’s your trigger warning!
Take care of yourself, we care about you. If you are an elder who lived through this: THANK YOU. Thank you for paving the way, for moving the movements, for taking the hits and continuing on. If you want to interview or share your personal stories please email: ____ I would love to honor your experiences.
According to the online etymology dictionary the word Queer can be found as far back as 1500. An adjective from Scottish, and perhaps originally low German, to describe something as “strange, peculiar, eccentric, oblique”. There are origins that link it’s decription from “Old High German” the word twerh meaning “oblique; from the root terkw, meaning “to turn, twist, or wind”. This origin connects the modern english word “queer” with the origin of the modern word “thwart”. Excellent.
 queer (adj.)
c. 1500, "strange, peculiar, eccentric," from Scottish, perhaps from Low German (Brunswick dialect) queer "oblique, off-center," related to German quer "oblique, perverse, odd," from Old High German twerh "oblique," from PIE root *terkw- "to turn, twist, wind" (see thwart (adv.)).
Sense of "homosexual" first recorded 1922; the noun in this sense is 1935, from the adjective. Related: Queerly. Queer studies as an academic discipline attested from 1994.
queer (v.)
"to spoil, ruin," 1812, from queer (adj.). Related: Queered; queering. Earlier it meant "to puzzle, ridicule, cheat" (1790). To queer the pitch (1846) is in reference to the patter of an itinerant tradesman or showman (see pitch (n.1)).
These wanderers, and those who are still seen occasionally in the back streets of the metropolis, are said to 'go a-pitching ;' the spot they select for their performance is their 'pitch,' and any interruption of their feats, such as an accident, or the interference of a policeman, is said to 'queer the pitch,'--in other words, to spoil it. [Thomas Frost, "Circus Life and Circus Celebrities," London, 1875]
In 1812, we find queer being used as a verb, meaning “to puzzle, ridicule, cheat”. This was found within the markets of wandering tradesman who would “queer their sales pitches” to deter policemen or other issues from knowing they were trading on the streets.
Exciting to know that “queering” has roots in confounding the police!!
This innocuous word, that simply meant “strange”, eventually became a slur against homosexuals, all thanks to one over-bearing father.
So, you may have heard of Oscar Wilde, the famous Irish poet, playwright, dandy, and all-around sassy bitch. His influence was further reaching than the gay 1890’s stage and prose sets. The meat of this queerstory is within the gossip. As many listeners may already know, Oscar Wilde had a young lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, or “Bosie” as he was known to friends and family- and dear dandy daddy Oscar.
Their relationship existed within a time when being homosexual was a crime punishable by imprisonment and “hard labour”. Yet, Oscar was a flamboyant creative, able to use his eccentricities to divert attention away from the root cause bing his beautiful gayness, but to his creative spirit. Bosie, on the other hand, was reportedly reckless in his slutty endeavors and flamboyant escapades. Their relationship was tempestuous, Bosie was spoiled by Daddy Oscar, and they even visited gay brothels together, at the request of you Bosie. The villain in this queerstory is Bosie’s father The Marquess of Queensberry (what a name right? I mean… come on) famous for refining the rules of boxing and being the one to fuck Oscar WIlde’s life up forever.
When Papa Douglas found out about his son and Oscar, he confronted the pair a number of times. The most notable being In June 1894, he called on Wilde at 16 Tite Street, without an appointment, and made clear his feelings for the dandy: "I do not say that you are it, but you look it, and pose at it, which is just as bad. And if I catch you and my son again in any public restaurant I will thrash you" to which Wilde responded: "I don't know what the Queensberry rules are, but the Oscar Wilde rule is to shoot on sight" This dude went so far as to publicly post a note about how Oscar was a “sodomite” to which Oscar sued him for libel…. Welll… here’s the thing: you might not want to sue someone for libel when your are very much sodomizing and being super gay with their son. As queerstory shows: this did not turn out well for dear Oscar, Bosie’s father was so unhinged by the thought of a gay sex scandal on the family name as well as wanting to avoid a conviction of libel, he went after Oscar. After a long very public and press-covered trial, Oscar was found guilty of sodomy and gross indecency and sentenced to hard labor and imprisonment.
I say all of this to share that: In 1894 the Marquess of Queensberry was the first person to use the term “QUEER” derogatorily on paper. He referred to Oscar and gay men in general as “queer snobs” in a letter. This of course was devoured by the press and immediately exported to American newspapers and used derogotorally. The American press used it to highlight that homosexuality is “abnormal”. It was specifically used against effeminate gay men.
To Describe the homosexual it was first recorded in 1922, queering it from an adjective to a noun by 1935.
Though gay people of all delineations were forced into closets by the Western puritanical residue of European conquest, there were many words used by gay people themselves to understand their own identities. Radclyffe Hall, the famous lesbian author (The Well of Loneliness) actively identified as an invert, which was an early demonstration of reclamation.
When we use the word Queer now, we are reclaiming it. This began in The U.S. in the 1980s by LGBT folks who likely were sick of words having power over them and who were reeling from the AIDS Plague. During protests at this time people would chant “We’re Here, We’re queer, We won’t live in fear!” In 1990 Queer Nation was formed. A flier was passed around at New York Gay Pride called “Queers Read This” saying:
“Ah, do we really have to use that word? It's trouble. Every gay person has his or her own take on it. For some it means strange and eccentric and kind of mysterious [...] And for others "queer" conjures up those awful memories of adolescent suffering [...] Well, yes, "gay" is great. It has its place. But when a lot of lesbians and gay men wake up in the morning we feel angry and disgusted, not gay. So we've chosen to call ourselves queer. Using "queer" is a way of reminding us how we are perceived by the rest of the world.”
Around the same time queer film maker Bruce La Bruce was developing New Queer Cinema. The queercore movement, a very gay outcry to punk, was born in the 1980s and exploded in the 90’s with notable bands:___This can be seen as the avant-garde and unapologetic gay answer to the punk movement, queercore expressed the very same discontent with society as the punks were stating.
The word queer was adopted as a personal identifier particularly by queer people of color and eventually began to take on a more politicised meaning. It became a movement. The queer movement rejected causes viewed as assimilationist: marriage and adoption.
Being Queer was a rejection of what we were supposed to be banned from in the first place. Now here’s some music by Lorena and the Bobbitts
Song: We’re Queer - Lorena and the Bobbits
Bump: You’re listening to Queerstory
 Part 2:
We are the stories that make up the histories hidden from us, so here’s my relationship to the word queer:
When I was 7 years old I learned a new word. During that time in my life I was learning a lot of new words, the Christian school I attended was pumping many new and appropriate words into our supple young minds weekly. However, this particular word jumped into my body with real movement and instant familiarity.
As a kid I highly identified with being “weird”. Modeling myself after Gonzo from The Muppets.  I am adopted and his story of mysterious beginnings, while looking different from everyone he knows, mirrored mine. Despite being haunted by the space it put between my family and myself, I enjoyed the weird world that swirled inside me. Shit, I enjoyed the space it put between myself and the boring world of Christianity. It made me feel special, though I didn’t know why I should be special. Sure, some moms tell us we’re “special” or “bright” or whatever else to help with our budding self-esteem. But, something about my weirdness gave me the gift of being set apart from everyone else.
I loved being weird. It meant that the world playing inside my head would only enhance the world I was discovering around me. It meant that my thoughts, being weird, were valid and real. It also meant that my shenanigans had legitimate justification.
“Why is that kid peeling a grape, pouring kool-aid all over it, and pretending their eye has popped out?”
“EWWW, and why are they eating it?”
Mom: “Why do you have to shred the skirt of your uniform? You know you have to share it with your sister.”
Why am I always drawing pictures of Catherine and can’t seem to keep my mind off her symmetrical freckles?
Why am I sure I am a boy when everyone insists I’m a girl?
You’re just weird, kid.
Then I learned a new, wonderful, powerful word. This word tasted good in my mouth. Upon learning it, my young mind had no conception of the connotations it carried. I just plain ol’ liked it.
Queer.
The day I learned it was like any other day at school. I recall being in class, doing one of many boredom-busting-class-acceptable activities: scanning the vocabulary pages in the back of my books for words of interest. Usually words like ‘rectum’ and ‘areola’.  I found studying the “holy” bible was only interesting when seeking the scandalous stories about tits and ass.
The day I found the word Queer I remember feeling joy. I needed a word for my weirdness. This word was perfect. Later,  after-school, I was eager to announce my new joy. Clutching my Dixie cup of goldfish crackers I sang out: “I’M QUEER!” to which the older kids laughed and muttered the long list of derogatory associations to this word and this young gay claiming it. A lovely thing then happened, a girl named Jessica Prescott (you don’t forget a kid like this one) put her arm around me and defiantly stated to the jeering masses “You can be Queer if you want to!”.
I had no idea the act of solidarity this other kid offered me. I just thanked her, smugly stuck my tongue out at the haters, and went about my Queer kid business.
I think about this experience and feel comforting warmth inside. Being Queer when I was a kid had a different shape than being Queer any other time in my life. It was not defined by sexuality, but it lent itself to confusing feelings towards my friends at sleepovers and the rage I carried about being disallowed to be a boy. The shape shifted when I was 15 when football players were beating me up by the lockers for “munching carpet”. Later that year, being Queer was a painful shape when my mother outed me by presenting me with the rolled-up-printed-out AOL history revealing my web browsing of gay.com and planetout.com. It morphed again at 19 when I was locked into an abusive lesbian relationship with a woman who hated trans-people and beat me up in my mother’s house for organizing and performing in drag shows. Then at 22 it was an awkward shape as I feared for my safety in Texas, while simultaneously being used by straight women to figure out if they were lesbians.
Being Queer is a shape I can’t hide. It orbits me and is born of me. It is often lonely and isolating. It is glittery, juicy, and clever. It is all I know. It defines my perspective when I open my eyes and take in the world around me. It leads me to the gayborhoods wherever I go, instead of anywhere else.
As a Queer I find joy in the fabulosity I contain, I also carry scars of abuse and abandonment. I don’t think one has to experience traumatic events to be Queer, but I do think that if you have felt the struggle and fear that accompanies it, you value it as a core component to your identity. I never “tried” being Queer. I just am.
Back in the day being called Queer was only derogatory. There was no reclamation of such a term. Some older gay folks still don’t appreciate that we are claiming it, because it hurt them so. To reclaim Queer you must understand that it isn’t flippant. It’s militant. It’s pain being slapped back at the dominant paradigm. It’s claimed with a feeling of reverence and respect for Silvia, Marsha, Divine, and all those who had to be Queer during times of turbulent change to make it so that we can do what we do. We are Queer because we are. We cannot change it, we cannot hide it, and even in the darkest hour we don’t want to hide it because it is beautiful. I ask those who appropriate, to please leave our culture to us. We’re professional ass-eating, cunt-bumping, sounding, dick sucking, fisting, flamboyant, butch, femme, sassy, beautiful people. Admire us, enjoy our art, be our friends.
I was proud to figure out the word Queer was meant for me that day in 2nd grade. I had no idea it was wielded to hurt at times, to isolate, to make fun, to incite violence. I had no idea it meant I’d have delicious desire for others of my gender and of any/all/no gender. I had no idea it meant that it validated my knowledge of being a boy. All I knew is that it meant weird, no one else claimed it, and that it was all mine.
Happy Pride month, be well.
Tune in Next week for episode 2 : The Godfather of the gays: Magnus Hirschfeld.
Thanks for reading Queer Story! Stay gay, you hotties!

If I wrote from my heart as to what I felt was going on, would it be accepted as such.
Of dreams come true.
I am not going to deny waking up and finding myself pouring energy through my arms into my lovers’ body next to me.
