trans people are stronger together. my irl best friend had one of their nephlings come out to him as gender non conforming, then finally felt comfortable to admit that she's a trans girl and she was ready to embrace it after seeing my friend come out as a trans guy. my friend was able to tell her that he could always just tell that she was always 'like him'. it took him coming out to give her that courage, and knowing that she has support in him, SOMEWHERE in her family. her knowing that she has support gave her the strength to be honest to and about herself.
this is the "point" of being trans. we are stronger together. when one of us comes out and loudly and proudly admits who we are, it gives others who are scared the courage to do the same, or at the very least, acknowledge internally who they are. not everyone has the ability to come out to others safely, but being there to give someone who can the courage to do so is a joy, a service, and an honor. even just by being who you are, you can inspire others to do the same, and give them the strength they wouldn't have been able to find otherwise.

"nefling" as gender-neutral "sibling-child"
There's been some discussion about a gender-neutral term for "niece or nephew" and I know there's been some settling on "nibling". And I really don't like that, as it is an obviously play on "nibble" which implies something tiny and inconsequential. Which maybe works if they're a baby, but is generally condescending.
Looking through the etymology of "nephew" and "niece", I think that "nefling" is probably the most sensible linguistic construction.
Nephew:
From Middle English nevew, neveu (“nephew, grandson”), from Old French neveu, from Latin nepos, nepōtem, from Proto-Italic *nepōts (also, from whence we get "nepotism") Displaced or absorbed the inherited English neve (“nephew, grandson, male cousin”), from Middle English neve, from Old English nefa, from Proto-West Germanic *nefō, from Proto-Germanic *nefôd
Niece:
From Middle English nece (“niece, granddaughter”), from Old French nece (“niece, granddaughter”) (Modern French nièce (“niece”)) from Late Latin neptia, representing Latin neptis (“granddaughter”), from Proto-Indo-European *néptih₂ (“granddaughter, niece”). Doublet of nift. (displaced form)
nift: From Middle English nyfte, nift, nifte, from Old English nift (“niece, granddaughter”), from Proto-Germanic *niftiz (“niece”), from Proto-Indo-European *néptih₂.
All the terms we have for niece and nephew, both in original OE and in French borrowings, derive from the PIE *nepōts (*néptih₂ itself comes from *nepōts + *-ih₂.
If you trace those four terms back to a common ancestor, we could have "nepper", "nepling" or even "nephling", but that's crossing etymological forms (something English would never (/s) do, I know). But honestly, I just don't like the sound of "nepper" (close to "nipper", a colloquial for "small child" and very similar to "nibbler").
But if you go from the Proto-Germanic *nefod and *niftiz, you can construct either "nifling" or "nefling". Since "niffling" is slang for "to pilfer" and a "niffler" is a term for "trifle", I'm strongly inclined to the latter. And because we're taking the Germanic linguistic root, we don't have to deal with a "-ph-" in there.
"Nefling" it is?

I have questions I don't know if they've been asked before. So pardon me if they have if this is a dumb question.
I was reading through the game description and it days our ex spouse is the great nephew of some important person so I'm assuming they were male... right?
but then also we can choose our gender. So if I choose to play a male character. How did our daughter come to be? Unless i got that all wrong. Or is there magic involved with same sex couples having kids?
And on that topic how do the ROs react to an MC that is the same gender. Are any of them conflicted or is it a happy love all vibe in the kingdom especially among nobility?
I. How did I not notice this. What is wrong with me I'm gonna lose my mind-
Thank you for pointing out the thing with Alix! (Dis)honest Lies started out as a small project for myself and a few friends so originally the MC was set as female, and therefore Alix was set as male, seems I forgot to change their description after I decided to make it a public game. I'll fix that right away!!! (On that note, what's the gender neutral form of niece/nephew? Nibling? Nephling?)
As for the ROs:
M really doesn't care. So long as they like you for you, they're not letting anyone get in the way of your relationship, least of all some homophobic old fogies who can barely manage their own failing marriages. In any case, among the lower class nobody really cares all that much - most are too busy trying to feed themselves and their families to gossip about who's courting who; your worth and status is based on what you contribute to the community, not who you choose to spend your life with.
Legacy is an immigrant from another kingdom where such relationships are much more accepted among the upper class and monarchy, so they just embrace it with open arms (assuming, of course, they can first get over all the other things keeping them from seeking happiness for themselves). In fact, they find it funny how enraged the few disapproving members of the Court get over what Legacy deems to be a trivial matter, so once they're romanced they take great delight in courting you in front of the homophobes just so they can watch them fume, unable to actually say anything (because that's the monarch and their lover, what are they gonna do about it?). E is 100% down for it. They are actively pursuing your heart (good luck trying to evade them lol), and they will not let anything stand in their way. After all, MC is the monarch, and they are an Advisor, with the backing of the House of Alinac. Realistically, only the other Advisors could lay a hand on them, and that could spark a rather nasty conflict in the Court, which they know all the Families are actively trying to avoid. Consequences be damned, they'll get what they want - they always do. E is untouchable, and they know it; what, then, is the point in fearing Court gossip? The lower nobility can say nothing to them, at least not without repercussion. O is already hesitant to pursue the monarch, even moreso if they are the same gender. O worries about the monarch's image - they know gossip in the Court is rarely forgiving, and for the monarch to court an Advisor (unheard of in the kingdom's history), well, that would certainly spark rumours of favouritism among the Families. While likely not enough to spark the other Families into direct action on its own, it would definitely make them more difficult to deal with - not ideal for the nation. They can only imagine what the rumours would be like if the monarch's lover were to be the same gender - and the Advisor from the House of Hildebrand, at least, strongly disapproves of such unions. O would prefer to spare MC (and Batrinoa as a whole) all the trouble and simply reject any romantic advances (even if they dream of taking MCs hands in theirs).
C, on the other hand, was raised in a rather homophobic household. It was really just their father Volker who drilled into the minds of his children that same-gender partners are wrong and unnatural and will be nothing more than a hindrance in war (soldiers are generally grouped into divisions by gender, and it is his belief that if a soldier was attracted to the same gender, it would make all members of their division a possible distraction on the battlefield). Though C (and none of their siblings really, except maybe their eldest brother, the family heir) took to these teachings, C is still hesitant about pursuing MC if they're the same gender - the internalized homophobia still hits hard even after all these years, and in any case they're not so sure MC would reciprocate (at least in the beginning). Give them some time to sort things out, the wait will be worth it.

every once in a while i remember we don’t have a collective term for “nieces and nephews” or “aunts and uncles,” and i get really irritated about it
though actually now that i bother to look it up, apparently we’ve had “nibling” since the 1950s? “nephling” is also suggested, which certainly sounds less silly. apparently both “auncle” and “pibling” have been suggested for the reverse concept, but sadly those are both awful words.

Moggi of the Storm - Diplomat Larkwing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name: Larkwing
Other Names: Lark (cub, cadet)
Meaning: Brown (Lark-), Protector (-wing)
Age: 4 moonspans & 1 moon | 4 years and 1 month
Identity: Cisgender Tom - He/Him
Orientation:  Homosexual | Hierarchical Polyamorous
Rank: Diplomat
Former Rank(s): Guard Cadet
A long-legged and slender but muscular marble brown tabby tom with yellow eye and a lighter underbelly. Larkwing’s paws are the same paler color as his belly, and he has a dark masking across the upper half of his muzzle. Larkwing was born with an interesting Stormborn condition - his quills are softer than other members of the faction. Between the marble swirls decorating his coat and the softer, barbless quills he was born with, it’s commonly assumed that Larkwing has some Shorerisen heritage. Kindlefoot declined to identify a sire outside of Gentlestep who stepped up, so the matter’s been long-since put to rest, though some still have commentary.
Larkwing and his sister were about the same size when they were born - a healthy pair of twins and a good sign to the faction. He had a fairly normal cubhood all things considered, spending most of his time carefree and happy as a cub should. Though his denmates preferred games involving combat, Lark had always been rather shy and adverse to the idea of rough-housing. He loved learning new things, and the rare pawful of nomads and outsiders that came to the faction were a subject of fascination for him. He would pester them for information on what life beyond the Stormborn was like; returning to the nursery to enthusiastically tell his mother all about it.
To the surprise of no one, Lark only lasted two short moons as a guard cadet before he requested to begin training under Tallwhispers instead. He was relieved when Finchfeathers took no offense, merely chuckling and remarking that he’d known it would happen eventually. It was a bit off-balancing at first to meet with so many non-Stormborn moggi, working his tongue around the languages spoken outside of the empire, but he relished every second of it. Lark thinks he was one of the very few moggi who understood Brastillian Mazzardwhisker’s reasons for leaving and the true weight of what Nightsabre had done long before the trouble started.
Larkwing and Buzzardhide grew rather close to each other not long before their promotions, and began to spend more and more time together in private. Now that was a surprise given Larkwing was all things gentle and kind while Buzzardhide was one word from swearing casually in front of cubs. Larkwing always claims that he loves his grumpy mate and spends most of his time showing him with physical affection that is returned with quiet gestures such as flowers in his nest and his favorite prey being hidden away from him. Their romance is a sweet one, and Larkwing loves his mate deeply.
Receiving Junco was a great honor to him, though he swiftly realized he had a struggle on his paws. His new cadet was so incredibly jumpy and anxious, he immediately understood the weight of the trust His Storm was placing in him. Larkwing vowed to treat the skittish tom like a son and has been making careful progress towards extricating him from his shell. Every day that Junco bounds towards him with his tail in the air and full of pride, Larkwing himself swells with joy.

My sister went viral on tik tok and got interviewed by People magazine but for the WILDEST Boomer-related nonsense.
And people in her comments are being HUGE assholes about it for no reason. She doesn't get nice shit often. Her adoptive parents are Evangelicals of the worst degree and constantly misgender my nephling. They have money but don't share without heavy guilt tripping. She's a social worker for adoption trauma and has several ND/queer kiddos that she ROCKS at supporting.
Ffs people, grow some goddamn empathy.

The Cats of ShadowClan: Quiveringheart
Tumblr media
Name: Quiveringheart
Other Name(s): N/A
Meaning: Gentle and Gullible
Identity:  Demiboy - He/Him and They/Them
Orientation: Pansexual
Rank: Crafter
Former Rank(s): N/A
A short furred ticked russet tom with pale green eyes, Quiveringheart was first named for his weak body and weaker immune-system. The first moon of Quiveringkit’s life was spent in the healer’s den being monitored and attended to as his breathing regularly faltered in his sleep. Eventually his lungs became stronger, his gaze clearer and he was freed from the medic’s den. The clan had been under the impression that Quiveringkit would eventually become a model ShadowClan warrior when he survived where his sister didn’t. They were immediately disappointed when the russet tom never became what they wanted.
He’s very anxious and guilt-stricken, believing most truly that he’s the reason for his parents splitting up as a kit. He feels immense pressure from his father to be a good warrior to be proud of. One of the most heartbreaking events of his life was his father turning away from him, choosing to step back from his life even after he turned six moons old. Quiveringpaw was forced to listen to the whispers and rumors the clan created about him and the scathing remarks that he was what happened when a father shirked his duty to his kits.
His life only started really looking up when he officially moved into the apprentice's den. He was already vaguely familiar with his old denmates but he only became super close to Marrowpaw and Thistlepaw when he started training as a crafter. It was like he gained a brother and a sister overnight, two cats willing to protect him from the whispers and the rumors no matter what. To top it all off, his mentor - Sunstone - turned out to be one of the nicest cats he'd ever met. She was patient, gentle and kind; uncaring when he stammeringly asked questions and guided his paws through weaving.
Quiveringheart has a powerful metabolism that keeps him from gaining much weight - he rarely if ever puts on even a thin layer of fat. This would seem like just a minor point except it affects every aspect of his life - without a fat layer, all impacts when fighting hurt much more and have higher chances of thoroughly injuring him. He’s always at least vaguely hungry, there’s almost never enough food in the clan for him to feel full. When he was younger, some of the older cats shamed him for constantly eating so now he overcompensates in the opposite direction, frequently starving himself so as not to take food from more deserving cats.
Mentor: Sunstone

Rambling about Vilayan while I can't sleep:
Vilayan's pronouns are they/them and he/him, they prefer masculine terms to neutral terms (aka son rather than child or kid, they also like boy and guy. They're fine with either nephew or nephling, even niece is okay sometimes.)
Vilayan's parents are Kauris and Kevin.
Their name at birth was Kyle, they changed it because Vilayan is a traditional name among worshippers of Death like the Joros.
They were raised without an assigned gender, and eventually they decide they identify more with manhood han anything else. They come to this realization after spending a lot of time with Urale, the first Very Femme man they've ever really known.
Vilayan is a medical student, very interested in arcane medicine and experimental biology. This is the main reason they really wanted to study under Urale - finding out he's their uncle just made him more appealing.
Vilayan finds out about their uncle (and their half-sister) when their affair is leaked to the press and Urale is excommunicated, and they decide that ingratiating themself to their fucked up and vulnerable uncle is going to get them what they want more easily than trying to access their emotionally unavailable father (Kauris) lol.
Vilayan is really really in love with Urale! Now, they don't really have a healthy sense of what love is, but they feel really strongly for him.
They're a yandere. 🥰🔪🪚
