Yeah, I don't think the championship was possible with all the other factors that became apparent later in the season, but at the time Silverstone happened, it still felt possible. I don't at all blame him for being upset and losing faith in the team for that brief time. Imagine being fastest in Spain, having a huge gap out front then dnfing, then going to your home race and being one pole, being the fastest in mixed conditions, then having some stupid strategy thrown at you that not only takes the win away, but kicks you off the podium, then going to baku, being on pole again, being in the lead and then the car gives up again, then arriving in Canada and having to start at the back while you know your car is capable of fighting for the possible win. All the while, you're still in the running for the wdc at this time, you just need something to go your way for once, you find yourself leading the British grandprix with a 9 second gap to P2, surely your team is going to prioritize you and make sure you get the win after the last few weekends and because the championship is still on the table. Nope. Not only do you miss out on the win, but you you don't even make the podium. And then you get a finger wagged in your face to top it all off. That would've been it for me. Insane to think about how that was allowed to happen. Silverstone 22 will forever be such a dark stain on my time as a Ferrari fan.

Okay, let's be very clear. No one is upset about the reported SF-23 issues because we're worried that Charles is not going to adapt or he's going to be outperformed by his teammate. NO ONE is worried about that AT ALL. Charles is one of the most adaptable drivers. He was literally dropped into understeer hell in his first F1 car, and not only did he adapt, he absolutely excelled. No one is worried that he's going to be slower than Sainz in the SF-23. The car can be 100% suited to Sainz, and Charles will always be faster.
What is concerning is that understeer cars are generally slower, even if they are much more stable and comfortable for second drivers like Perez and Sainz, and the SF-23's (alleged) front end problems are not encouraging. Both Charles and Max have emphasized how important it is for a car to have a strong front end, and they can manage the loose rear if needed.
And furthermore, this is YET AGAIN more evidence that Ferrari do not prioritize the WDC or WCC. Building the fastest car means 1) building a car with the fastest characteristics AND 2) making it drivable/suitable for your fastest driver so that the potential of the car is maximized. We already know that oversteer cars are generally faster, but they are notoriously unstable and difficult to manage for drivers like Sainz/Perez, but NOT for drivers like Leclerc/Verstappen. Ferrari needs to understand and prioritize this: To win the WDC and WCC, you don't need Perez to beat Leclerc or Sainz to beat Verstappen. YOU NEED LECLERC TO BEAT VERSTAPPEN. The points differential all comes down to the difference between P1 and P2.
So we're not upset that Charles isn't going to adapt and excel in the SF-23. Of course he will. We're upset that the SF-23 (so far) isn't shaping up to be a fast enough car that will allow Charles to challenge for the WDC or Ferrari to challenge for the WCC. AND the fact that Ferrari JUST. DOESN'T. SEEM. TO. GET. IT. Charles is allegedly important to them, their next great hope, beloved by the Tifosi and the organization, their predestined, blah blah blah... and yet they can't even build or develop a car with the priority of trying to WIN uncompromisingly? That is far more upsetting than having a slow car, because it shows that their organizational attitude and direction of development won't push things in the right direction. So yes, the season is long (and technically hasn't even started) and these sentiments are (hopefully) premature, but it doesn't start you off on a very hopeful note.

yeah i swear to god, the victimizing charles posts are getting out of hand because the man literally got a p2 2 seconds behind his teammate with the fastest lap?? that’s not the worst ending on a weekend when he didn’t have a good feeling in the car.
and about team orders and strategy - ferrari actually acting like a proper team lol. charles was in dirty air in the first stint which compromised him a lot. so for the entire race he was in tyre deficit to carlos. if he could have passed him, he would have done so. charles will do anything to win. but today wasn’t that day. we can be happy about maximizing the result and move on to suzuka 🤙
We don't do the Charles victim narrative here. He is a grown man who is very smart about race strategy. This was a great result for Ferrari and I know our Ferrari fan-boy Charles is so excited that Ferrari took everything they could this weekend.
That was basically text book strategy for the circumstances of this race. I am really excited to see them do it again(hopefully helping Charles towards his win!) But this all gave me a lot more faith in what is possible for Ferrari as a team as far as coordination goes.
If Charles thinks he can win he will take it. He knew he didn't and he maximized points for Ferrari, and also P2 is not a tragedy, that is exciting!!!!!
Really this race gave me all kinds of new excitement for his season and Ferrari's season as a whole.

So, this year of f1 (which happens to be my first year but I've been attempting to do my research on other ones) seems to be shaping up to be filled with cardboard boxes of cars, especially for some people. This post is specifically for my memory/entertainment, and so I can use this as a reference when ranting to irls. That being said, I'm going to attempt to summarize as many of the Australian gp 2024 car failures/iconic moments/general large moments as I can remember because this is wild to me:
(Please feel free to add more. I live for the fun race moments. Also, I apologize if I missquote anything, Im trying to type as the race occurs)
1. Long before the race even began, Alex Albon wrecked his car, causing MASSIVE damage to the chassis and was told to take over Logan Sergeant's car. This happened on Albons birthday. Horrible for Sergeant, absolutely hysterical that it was on Albons birthday. Like, congrats!!! Here's your teammates car!
2. Max Verstappen's right break went up in like actual flames, forcing him to retire to the joy of many who don't like him and the absolute horror of literally every red bull fan ever
3. Hamiltons engine (to me) audibly went pop, and he had to retire. (Before this, they put him on softs to start, which like. I barely know tire strats at all, but even I had visible question marks)
4. Esteban Ocons breaks started to go boom but got fixed during a pit stop. This does not mean that Alpine managed to be successful in any way (<-said with mild amusement)
5. Russell running into a wall (he is a-okay, they got him into a medical car asap) bc of some oversteering/lower entrance speed from alonso, causing the race to be finished under a virtual safety car as Russells car was on its side in the middle of the track
Things that I just found funny in general:
1. Both merc drivers being mind boggled/lightly astonished by how fast Checos car was going with Russell calling it a rocket ship.
2. Random cut to Zac Efron in a Red Bull hat
3. Worlds fastest three car battle between Fernando Alonso (doing his absolute best to annihilate in the Aston Martin), Checo (in the local rocket ship), and Leclerc (just pitted, was the #2).
4. Saubers utter inability to have a pit stop under 10 seconds. Both Zhou Guanyu and Valtteri Bottas were victimized severely. (Oh my god, the sky commentators "ring the church bells sauber just did a pit stop that wasn't a complete disaster" and it was a 3.8s pit)
5. Extra wheel nut went rolling cross the Sauber garage, and it made it seem like they lost one on Valtteri's stop (The wheel nut that made a bid for freedom - thank you sky sports commentators)
6. "Nice to see the Haas cars racing [long pause] and not going backward on their wheels" - once again, sky sports continue to be hysterical
7. Cut to ferrari fans in clown wigs and noses.
8. Carlos Sainz being absolutely off the rails and winning a race, not even two weeks off appendicitis surgery
9. "There's a lot of world championships... as spectators" - referring to Hamilton and Verstappen watching mildly listlessly at the race, one more than the other
As previously stated feel free to lemme know about moments I missed or your favorite moments in general!! Hope it was a great race day for everyone!

Charles is incredibly fast AND incredibly consistent
1) Bahrain- Won from Pole
2) Saudi Arabia- Ferrari was the second fastest car, Charles came 2nd
3) Australia- Grand Slam
4) Imola- Ferrari was the second fastest car, LEC was running 3rd when he had a small spin near the end and finished 6th, his first fault.
5) Miami- Ferrari was the second fastest car, charles got pole because max made a mistake in his q3 lap and because he overperformed his car. Charles finished 2nd.
6) Spain- Charles was on course to have his second grand slam of the season when the engine blew up.
7) Monaco- Charles drove a flawless race, was leading by a good margin in the race until ofcourse Ferrari made that strategy call. Alex also held him up by not getting out of the way even after NINETEEN blue flags. He finished 4th.
8) Azerbaijan- Ferrari was the second fastest car, he got pole only because he overperformed the car and got an advantage of half a second in the driver focused region of the track. He was leading, had the winning strategy (especially with how the safety car played out) but his engine blew up.
9) Canada- He took an engine penalty, had a shit pit stop, got stuck in a DRS train and still finished 5th
10) Silverstone- Drove a flawless race, was faster than his teammate even with older hards with a broken front wing. Was on course to win and gain a lot of points on max until Ferrari fucked up with the strategy call. (Also, his overtake on copse, which despite being the best overtake of the season wasn't given enough attention because skysport comms do not know how to hype up anyone who isn't british or max)
11) Austria- Won. Drove a flawless race and still kept up the gap somehow, even with a broken throttle pedal for 10 laps.
12) France- his second and last fault of the season, in a car that was had an incredibly unstable set up.
13) Hungary- would have won it if ferrari hadn't pitted him on hards. this is despite him asking for softs (and despite carlos asking for hards who was pitted on softs. so much for your "he can't make strategic calls" agenda)
14) Belgium- Had an engine penalty but a tear off got stuck in his air duct. (Which also caused the pit limiter sensor to overheat and make him speed by 1km in the pits, not his fault)
15) Netherlands- Finished 3rd, had shitty luck with the VSC
16) Monza- Had the second fastest car, got pole from his sheer brilliance and overperforming the car. Finished 2nd. (Never got the chance to fight as there wasn't a safety car restart)
17) Singapore- Started from pole but there was standing water ahead of him, which caused not only him to lose position to perez but also those who started on his side of track including lewis and alonso, lost positions. Literally could not have done anything, he drove perfectly and then ofcourse perez only got a 5 sec penalty despite him falling behind the safety car THRICE.
18) Japan- The tyre eating f1-75 had levelled up and eaten her tyres within the first 3 laps. despite this, he still held on somehow on tyres that resembled slicks and kept fighting perez till the last lap. finished 2nd but was demoted to 3rd, a decision made very quickly unlike the previous gp.
19) COTA- had an engine penalty, drove a flawless race, had great moments including that overtake on perez.
20) Mexico- enough said, the pace was there in the car. could not have done anything.
21) Brazil- Ferrari strategy screwed him over in the quali, leading him to being unable to put a lap time on the board. In the race, finished 4th despite Norris taking him out and leaving him to climb up the grid almost two times from last. Had a brilliant race.
22) Abu Dhabi- literally THE perfect execution, did not have a single misstep or a single lock up, was on the one stop strategy and just showed how underrated and good his tyre management skills are.
If you think that he is inconsistent or whatever, please get some braincells. If he was not your top 2 driver, you do not know what the fuck you're talking about.

I really don't understand what Ferrari's doing. I don't mean necessarily this year, but in general. This new car had to be the great comeback after 2020... 🙈🙈🙈
Last year's car was unreliable but fast as hell and Leclerc loved it. But they changed the car throughout all of last season to make it more suitable for Sainz who kept crashing. Now the car is miles slower, Leclerc hates it, Sainz likes it, and Red Bull is still dominating (we were lucky in Singapore but just because RB did badly, just like last year).
I know you keep saying that the team would never change the car for one driver if it meant it would get slower, but evidence says otherwise. Binotto, the rest of the team, Sainz himself said they worked hard to suit the car to him, and here's the result: the car is OBJECTIVELY slower than last year, and it doesn't suit Leclerc at all.
In Singapore, 2nd and 3rd were faster, we only kept them behind using DRS tricks. Leclerc said from the first moment that it was all planned and his role was to protect Sainz as best as he could. It didn't seem like he was protecting Ferrari, he seemed totally honest (unlike last year, where you could tell he was disappointed and just trying to keep peace).
It seems like Ferrari has chosen its first driver years ago (they even had Leclerc go receive his 2nd place in the championship trophy ALONE) but lack the decency of being honest with us (and possibly with Leclerc as well...).
Sainz's first victory came after 10 years in F1 and Leclerc had to sacrifice his own race to cover him. His second victory, same thing (though less of a shit show since Leclerc isn't running for the title this time). He gets the best strategies, can fight orders (Silverstone'22: "Hamilton and Perez will eat me alive if I try to defend!", so they had Leclerc do it and sacrifice his own race), can badmouth Leclerc and the team without repercussions.
I don't know if it's because Ferrari knows that Leclerc would literally die for them, so they take him for granted, or if sponsors are involved (we all know F1 is a political game and Santander got Kimi sacked for Alonso, it isn't even a conspiracy but a fact, especially in Italy everyone knows:
https://www.tumblr.com/sugar-and-spice-cl/729117320204648448/im-new-to-f1-but-santander-got-kimi-booted-from
(iirc OP is Italian).
I'm not saying I prefer Binotto to Vasseur, because Binotto was completely allergic to taking responsibility for his mistakes... but at least with him the car was the fastest on the grid.
Wtf is Ferrari doing?
The car isn't objectively slower overall. It was slower in qualifying in both Monaco and Suzuka (and maybe somewhere else but I don't remember). The car did get better in certain things compared to 2022 but they also made a lot of mistakes.
The thing is more that in their quest to I guess make Carlos more comfortable while also making the car faster they went wrong and it looks extra bad because the rest didn't get it wrong so they caught up or in RBs case extended their advantage.
Waché RBs TD said that with these cars it's easier to find speed at the front than in the rear. And RB who started with a more rearwards balance in 2022 shifted their balance forwards and their car got significantly faster. Ferrari wanted to shift the balance backwards but doing that and finding speed is much harder according to him. And so I think they thought they could do it but irl couldn't and got it massively wrong.
On Singapore looking at pace as such in Singapore doesn't mean much tbh. Half the race Carlos was going as slow as possible and that only works in Singapore because overtaking is super hard unless you are significantly faster or you do it via the pits and an undercut. Lando definitely wasn't faster overall and the Mercs were faster but they also were on a different strategy and were properly pushing. And with how well Lando did defending the DRS thing wasn't that needed tbh.
The win in Singapore was really important for Fred and his standing in the team etc. RB had messed up and it was THE chance to win and throwing that away would get in the way of Fred getting to properly establish himself in the team. That's why Charles cooperated. Because Fred needed it. Because Ferrari needed it. And the fact that is was Carlos who won doesn't change much.
We're in a throwaway season, there is no need for a proper driver hierarchy atm. But also the way that Fred talks about the drivers paints a different picture. We also know that Charles contract negotiations started early and he has most likely already signed a long term-ish deal. Meanwhile we don't hear anything like that about Carlos and they either actually haven't started negotiations yet or (and) he is definitely not getting what he wasn't which is the same thing that Charles is getting because otherwise there would be no need to be complaining so much and so loud.
I know this is an old ask, but read Charles interview with the race that came out today. He very clearly believe in the project and to me that means he is definitely at the centre of that.
Fred famously left Renault super quickly because he wasn't a fan of the politics. he doesn't like that stuff.
The current car is shit but that it's not shit because of Fred. This season we can only more recently start to judge Fred when it comes to the general operations. This car was designed under Binotto and all Fred has been able to is still push the development which he has done. Ferrari have brought more in general and more effective upgrades this season than last, but this car has some fundamental issues (chassis, suspension etc) that you can't just fix mid season with the cost cap.
The first car to judge Fred with is the 2024 car. And even then because they are starting with a new concept it probably won't start 100% flawless. But this current car is not on Fred at all.
not to mention the race interview again but Charles pretty much says he was ready to leave Ferrari last year and that he believes in the project now more than ever.
I get not wanting to trust Fred but do trust Charles he isn't an idiot.

unpopular opinion but i think carlos would hate lando by now if he had stayed at mclaren. lando was basically matching him that second year and u could see from their quali records that lando had more raw pace. and he's only continued to improve in consistency, race pace, tyre management, etc. since then. like i think the whole "carlando" dynamic would have ended horribly (but funnily for me) if he hadn't left.
hm. im actually not sure abt that
i saw this opinion on my dash literally like an hour ago and like i respect it as a hypothetical, but i just think carlos is the type to swallow his frustrations and play nice for the team as long as the team is being nice to him. (and i do think mclaren wouldve continued to be nice to him) (i have my own biases idk as me abt team orders and u'll get another essay)
so far, mclaren have not been in a position to b fighting for championships, so realistically even if carlos stayed the dynamic wouldnt have climbed that extra step of competitiveness. what would have changed would b - as u rightly pointed out - their teammate delta. they deffo would b way closer (and lando would maybe edge him out) but i dont think it would b the dominance landos had over his other teammates in 2021-2023. carlos has been landos strongest teammate in f1 so far (obvs this is mostly bc oscar is a rookie), and he has a very fun-to-watch talent thats clearly manifested itself since he moved to ferrari: not necessarily to drive the fastest or best, but to get the most points. man's probably one of the smartest drivers out there on track currently (barring his repeated divebombs into car 81 oops) and it rly shows. what lando would have on him in terms of consistency and raw pace carlos makes up for in scrappiness and adaptability.
so thats what the situation would look like in my head - close in the wdc rankings but w different strengths, likely often going for diff strategies and setups. lando 'i have a reputation for getting along with my teammates' norris (actual quote) and carlos, who clearly maintains a soft spot for lando & has had to adapt to a bunch of diff team dynamics with general success, would have to probably actively work at their relationship to keep it amicable, but i think theyd probably manage to do it. if anything they'd get closer than they are currently, which is not that close (mostly bc lando can't golf as much as he used to, they live in diff countries now, and lando struggles to juggle more than like 2.5 friends at a time)
so like yeah. if even charles (who destroyed the competitive psyche of a 4 time world champion with his dimples, tragic backstory, and a well placed monza win) cant make carlos break out of his friendliness (friendly, not friends - yes ive seen the pierre quote going around, yes im also aware he was mostly saying those things as a spiderman-printed band-aid over his intrateam dynamic's massive fuck-off gaping wound) then i dont see how lando could. i think a lot of the way lando deals w the social / human side of f1 is thru what he learned from carlos anyways, so they have quite compatible ways of working thru things. tldr i dont think lando would need to have sympathy for carlos anyways but if he did way that thing to a journo carlos would laughs in spanish and hit him in the balls or smth

The Carlos Sainz PR machine working overtime
No because it really is 😭 The devil works hard but the Sainz PR team works harder etc etc...
Like I'm sorry but is it really a coincidence that a Carlos fluff piece comes out literally a day or two after an inflammatory article blaming Charles and his ambitions for the rumoured rift in the team is published by the same media outlet?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But no worries, he's just gonna come out and say he's "too humble"! The concerning thing is he seems to have blinders on for beating Charles. Of course your teammate is your benchmark and it's satisfying to beat him, but that shouldn't be the main and only goal. Charles's ambitions extend beyond that, and he's talked about it many times, how he's always pushing the team to improve, to iron out their mistakes, so that they can challenge their competitors and finally bring back a championship trophy to Maranello - or, ideally, both.
Carlos, though? You say you want to be world champion, but how are you going to do that in a midfield car? The current Ferrari has degenerated into the second or, on some weekends, even third fastest car on track. They're experiencing issues they don't seem to have immediate answers for (Mexico's altitude nuking their performance). But idk I guess he'd be content to be in the midfield or even finish P19 and P20 as long as he gets the bragging rights of finishing ahead of Charles. 😵‍💫

vro0m’s rewatch - 156/310
2015 Austrian GP
Alright. I only have the race once again. Nope. Pre-race content! Let's go!
Tumblr media
I read that in FP1, Nico was faster than Lewis. Of the others, only Raikkonen was able to come less than a second behind them. Seb was dead last with a gearbox problem, running only 4 laps. He was the fastest in FP2, though. Nico was second but did not set any timed laps in the last 20 minutes because his car was leaking oil. Lewis struggled on the supersofts and he was only 5th. Then Seb was again the fastest in FP3, just ahead of Lewis. Alonso red flagged the session by stopping on the track. When it resumed it had started raining so the times weren't improved.
Raikkonen was out in Q1 because of a miscommunication leading to him not having enough time to set a second hot lap. The track was drying so the times constantly improved. Jenson was also out in Q1, and he apparently had a 25-place grid penalty?! So yeah that turned into time penalties for the race…
In Q2 the Mercs were the fastest with Rosberg ahead of Lewis. Alonso didn't make it to Q3. Ricciardo ended 14th and had a 10 place grid penalty so he also got a time penalty for the race, I guess.
In Q3 Grosjean's brake by wire system failed and he couldn't set a time. Nico was ahead of Lewis after the first hot laps but Lewis improved by 2 tenths in the second round. They then went out for a third hot lap and both spun on different parts on the track. And that's how Lewis got his 45th pole, level with Seb who ended 3rd on the grid. Massa is 4th, Hulkenberg 5th, Valtteri 6th, Verstappen 7th, Kvyat 8th, Nasr 9th and, as we said, Grosjean 10th.
I've found the post quali press conference. It wasn't interesting apart from the way Lewis looked at Seb while he was talking so enjoy these awfully pixelated gifs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the end, Daniel had a 5 sec stop and go penalty, Alonso a drive through and Jenson a 10 sec stop and go penalty.
For some reason the drivers’ truck is this tiny little thing they're sitting on basically hip to hip. I can't see Lewis rn but I bet he's hating every second of it. They're also all freezing their asses off.
About his 45th pole he says he's grateful to the team who's given him the car that made it possible for him to do so. He's excited for the race, he says it's cool and he doesn't know if it's gonna rain. He's also happy about the turnout. He says the Ferraris seem to have good race pace and he thinks it's gonna be pretty close. The interview is cut short because they need to get on the truck. I'm kinda sad she didn't interview him on it because I would have liked to see who he was sitting very intimately close to lol.
That's not a very interesting prerace broadcast. There's a Hulkenberg interview and a Valtteri interview and a segment about what it's like being a TP, during which Lewis says he personally thinks a TP should be a leader and keep everyone calm and cool. They need to be easily approachable by everyone, because people need to be able to go to them to talk about issues they have.
Formation lap.
They're racing!
Oh fuck Nico gets a good start, Lewis tries to cover him but he's ahead into turn 1. Lewis comes back at him shortly after but he's on the outside. He attacks again but Nico still keeps him on the outside. Yellow flags are waved somewhere. OH NO WTF! They cut straight to an onboard and it's a Marussia I believe, under another car, is it a McLaren? No wait, I got it wrong! It's indeed a McLaren, Alonso's, and he's on top not of a Marussia but Raikkonen's Ferrari! Oh Jesus, that's a scary view. The cars are literally on top of each other. Safety car. Alonso is helped out of the upper car by the marshals. Raikkonen stands up on his own. Alonso jumps to the ground and turns around to check on him immediately. He's trying to get his steering wheel back on and as he steps out of the cockpit Alonso seems to make a gesture kind of like he's trying to grab his hand, it's kinda cute. They walk away together and look back over their shoulders. Surely they haven't seen such a view before themselves.
Meanwhile Kvyat is in the pits getting his nose changed? Jenson asks if everyone is okay and he's told yes. Let's see the replay. From Raikkonen's onboard it's difficult to understand what happened. He lost control of the car and then crashes laterally into the barriers, it just happens that Alonso's car is in-between him and the barriers. I guess Alonso might have triggered the loss of control? Wow, it's freaky. Once Alonso's car is propped on Raikkonen's and they're against the barrier they still slid on what I'd estimate to be a good 20 metres, probably? Yeah we get an aerial view and that could have been way worse. Alonso got sandwiched right at a place where the barrier is at sort of an angle to allow for passage. Had that angle been sharper it would have been catastrophic. We're still unsure what happened though… Oh and NOW that's a Marussia stopping. That's 3 DNFs on lap 2.
Bono tells Lewis to be careful on the restart as the pressures are low and it would really hurt their race if he locked up. Shortly after, the Safety Car is announced in this lap… Nico slows down slightly while Lewis swerves behind him to warm up his tyres… The tension is high… Here we go… He gets some distance between them down the main straight. Sainz and Grosjean got into some slight contact at the back. Nico sets the fastest lap. He's out of DRS range for Lewis now. And that's a slow second McLaren… Yep, that's a double retirement for McLaren.
Lap 10. Nico sets another fastest lap, he's 2 seconds ahead of Lewis already. Seb has fallen behind as well. Then it's Massa, Hulkenberg, Verstappen, Valtteri, Nasr, Sainz, and Perez. Ericsson gets a drive through for a jump start. Nico sets fastest lap after fastest lap. And finally, Lewis starts gaining time rather than losing time over him. Valtteri overtakes Verstappen for P6. Bono : "Good job there Lewis, closing the gap nice and steady."
Lap 20. Nico is still 2 seconds ahead, Seb has dropped back further. Apart from Valtteri's earlier overtake, the order hasn't changed in the top 10. Ericsson's engine stopped then went again. As we're shown graining on Rosberg's tyres, the pit stops start. Hulkenberg comes in from P7 after Grosjean, Sainz is also in. Valtteri pits and Ted says there was a close call between him and Verstappen.
On lap 30 Sainz gets a 5 second penalty for speeding in the pitlane and Verstappen overtakes Kvyat for P10. Nico is 3.2 seconds ahead of Lewis. It's still Seb behind them then Massa, Perez, Maldonado, Hulkenberg, Valtteri, Daniel and as we just established, Max is P10. Lewis is working on closing that gap again, 2.7. Sainz has no power. 2.2. Nico is told one lap. Lewis is told to pick up the pace. Nico locks up. He comes in. It's a 2.7 stop, 21.7 total in the pitlane. Massa pits, but Lewis didn't actually come in and now Nico is setting the fastest last sector in his outlap. They need to bring him in, staying out won't do him good. He pits. Ah fuck it's 3.1. Nico is well ahead and sets the fastest lap. Grosjean has a problem with his gearbox, he’s cutting some grass. The gap between Nico and Lewis has indeed increased with the stops. It seems to be about 4 seconds now. Seb comes in, putting Nico back in the lead, and it's a catastrophic stop for him, oh no! They can't bolt the right rear in! 13 seconds!!! AND LEWIS IS UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR CROSSING THE PIT EXIT LINE argh! Grosjean retires. Lewis did cross the line. And that's a 5 second time penalty for him. Fuck, that's a stupid mistake, that.
Lap 40. The gap to Nico is 5.6, without the time penalty. Then we have Massa, Seb, Valtteri, Hulkenberg, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Maldonado and–
Bono tells Lewis about the penalty. "It's just a 5-second penalty, this will be added to our race time. So that means we need to be 5 seconds ahead of the car behind to maintain our position." Lewis sounds surprised. "Which one did I touch?" he asks. Bono explains it was pit exit and they are reviewing it. Well we saw the replay and it's undeniable.
Raikkonen says he's fine and he's not sure what happened but thinks he lost the rear of the car. No mention of Alonso in his interview.
On lap 50 Lewis is making no progress, he gave up on that win. The gap is 6.8. Massa is still 3rd but Seb is closing on him.
I'm now officially bored and not paying much attention.
On lap 60, the gap is 6.2. Daniel overtook Nasr for P10.
10 laps to go. Oh, the gap is closing fast now, 5.5. 4.9. Massa is a healthy distance behind them so there's no worry about Lewis keeping P2 and Seb is now only 1 second behind Massa. Cue the fight. Perez complains of very bad vibrations. The gap at the front stabilised. Seb is closing on Massa. Nico is complaining of vibration.
5 laps to go. Lewis is 4.8 behind him and Seb is still stuck behind the Williams. They're passing a backmarker and that was a close call but the fight is still on. Nico's engineer gets back to him to ask if the vibration is all the time or on the brakes. Nico is a bit frantic : "all the time, all the time!" He asks if he's sure there's no reliability concern over the tyre and he's told not at the time. The engineer starts to explain but Nico cuts him off : "All eyes on that, okay?" he says. "All eyes on that." The engineer says "absolutely, absolutely, but no concerns at the moment." Seb attacks Massa but he can't make it. The gap to Nico is 4.5. It won't change anything, there's not enough time to make it, 2 laps to go. Maldonado and Verstappen are fighting and they both almost crashed several times now. Verstappen says his tyres are completely gone. Final lap. This fight is tighter between Nico and Lewis, with the gap down to 2.2 seconds.
It's the end of the race.
Nico wins ahead of Lewis and Massa.
Niki says Nico did a perfect race from beginning to end. Ted says Lewis also made an "uncharacteristic mistake". Niki says it happens, they shouldn't and he'll for sure be upset but he thinks Nico would have won regardless.
Lewis hugs Nico but he hasn't taken his helmet off.
Tumblr media
Nico climbs the barrier and sets himself upon his mechanics to be carried which is a weird thing to do lol.
As Nico arrives in the cool down room for some reason it's Herbie Blash carrying his helmet for him. He immediately engages Massa in Italian rather than English. It seems less innocuous than when he speaks German with Seb, you have to say. Massa moves to look at the times on the screen. Lewis and Nico don't talk.
Lewis does smile on the podium, he's not beaming of course but he doesn't seem too pissed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh here's the Mercedes moustache mechanic again!
Tumblr media
Gerhard Berger leads the interviews.
Berger tells Lewis he's one of the quickest drivers he's ever seen. Lewis smiles. Berger says he also has a quick car but a headache in the team, as every time he thinks he's going away winning the championship Nico comes back and keeps him honest. (It's interesting how in 2014 he was the underdog as he chased Nico for most of the season and this time it's the other way around). Berger says it's great to watch them both. Lewis says it's great to see his enthusiasm. There was no question there. They touch each other and it's a bit awkward, Lewis laughs.
Tumblr media
Lewis says Nico did a fantastic job and he was quicker during the race. He says he had a bad start which lost him ground and then he pushed as hard as he could. Berger says they both put quali laps every lap and he thinks it's great to see them fighting since karting time. Lewis says it's been a long time.
When asked in postrace interviews, Rosberg and Massa said that there should be safety improvements made in the area of closed cockpits after Alonso and Raikkonen's crash. Lewis said he had no opinion on the matter. Alonso said he was scared by the incident and relieved that Raikkonen was fine. There was no penalty.
Maldonado accused Max of not respecting the rules in their fight for P7 although he said he enjoyed being allowed to race to the limits by the stewards. Max said he found it "quite funny" that Maldonado said that and refused to elaborate. (Honestly he's so funny for that.)
Lewis is off to see the fans again. Meanwhile Paddy is interviewed and it's not very interesting but about the next race being the British GP he says : "to be honest one of the greatest moments I ever get in formula 1 is when you hear the home crowd at Silverstone cheer for Lewis, I've heard that in a number of occasions and it's really quite emotional."
Ohhh Massa's son is hanging around with him while he does media duty. I see him in the background of Lewis' interview. It's so cute. Anyway Lewis says it was a good, decent day in the office.
Tumblr media
Natalie asks why he couldn't find an answer to Nico's pace, though. He's not really in the mood I can tell, he's evasive. Not 1-word-answers bad but not really owning up to it either. He says he doesn't know, he says Nico was quicker "just in the second stint", in the first stint he was close. He did a great job and "of course" Lewis lost out at the start. She asks why. He says he let the clutch out and it underperformed or something like that idk if it makes sense. He coughs. He says it's an issue he's been having since Barcelona, and that before that he had really good starts. She says he seems pretty calm about it all. He smiles.
Tumblr media
She asks about Silverstone. He says he's looking forward to seeing "lots and lots of Brits" and to drive the circuit because it's a great track. He says Nico got to win his home GP, so he'll be out to fight for this one.
Tumblr media
Hah! They decided to interview Felipe Senior and Junior. Jr said Sr would finish third and indeed he did. The microphone is the size of his face lol. Little guy. He's just playing with it during his dad's interview. Cute cute cute. At the end, Simon says he keeps seeing Jr practising his football skills in the paddock. He asks him if he wanna be "a racing driver or a famous Brazilian footballer". "I wanna be a racing driver," he says quietly. Everybody awws. Massa makes the international money gesture in the background. "You need to find sponsors uh?" he says as he taps him on the shoulder. "Good sponsors." Hill points at Sr : "Here he is, here's the sponsor!" They laugh.
Tumblr media
Brundle congratulates Nico on his 11th win and says apart from the quali lap he had the weekend covered. Nico isn't convinced. "I had Sunday covered," he corrects him. "Saturday not really." He says the start was very important and he nailed it. He credits his engineer for his clutch settings. He says like he's said several times before that after the start it's difficult to come back because they have the same car, so unless the one in front makes a mistake you can't really overtake.

Porsche 918 Spider
Competing against the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1, the Porsche 918 Spyder proved to be able to hold its own against the very best that the automotive industry could muster. Utilizing premium materials, top-quality components, and cutting-edge technology, Porsche created a car that was not only stunning in its performance, but one that was equally stunning in its looks and sheer attention to detail.Cradled in a chassis constructed almost entirely of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic composite, the 918’s heart is a 90-degree V-8 based upon that found in Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 Le Mans prototypes. Thanks to its flat-plane crankshaft, titanium connection rods, four valves per cylinder, and dry-sump lubrication, it can rev to an ear-piercing 9,000 rpm. As a result, it puts out a 608 horsepower, which equates to an incredible 133 horsepower per liter of displacement. In addition to this, the 918 Spyder’s combustion engine is supported by a pair of electric motors, with one being mated to the engine itself and another providing drive to the front axle. These electric motors produce an additional 284 horsepower, bringing the 918 Spyder’s total output to 887 horsepower and 994 pound-feet of torque. All this power is managed through Porsche’s tried-and-true PDK seven-speed transmission, and its delivery can be further refined through five driving modes, ranging from full electric to “Hot Lap,” which utilizes every ounce of available performance from the powertrain. Sixty miles per hour can be reached from a standstill in under 2.5 seconds, a time faster than both the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari, leading towards a top speed of 211 mph. Comparing performance figures between “the big three” showed that not only was the 918 the fastest to 60 mph: It also boasted the farthest electric-only range, lowest carbon dioxide emissions, and lowest fuel consumption.Of course, the brakes utilized to bring the car to a halt are just as mighty as the 918 Spyder’s gargantuan powertrain. Massive carbon-ceramic discs sitting behind the car’s lightweight alloy wheels measure at 410 millimeters in diameter at the front with six-piston calipers and 390 millimeters in diameter at the rear with four-piston calipers. Assisting the car’s handling and downforce are a handful of active aerodynamic features, including an adjustable rear wing, a pair of under-floor flaps in the nose, and further adjustable flaps in the headlamp area.

Qualifying in Silverstone: McLaren top!
Tumblr media
At the beginning of the qualifying the track was slightly damp again, but it was good enough to use the soft slicks. The track however was slippery, a fact that Lewis Hamilton had to experience early as he spun out in Stowe on his first lap. Hamilton was able to continue the qualy. In Stowe, many drivers had problems keeping their car steady during the first qualifying session, but no big incidents happened, the biggest one was that Magnussen stopped on track a bit over 3 minutes before the end of Q1 at the exit of Stowe, however it wasn't because of a driving error, it was a technical issue. This caused a red flag and afterwards it got interesting. The bad news is, Sergio Perez again did not qualify for Q3, instead he got eliminated in Q1 on P16. Alonso was lucky and got P15, so he made it to Q2. Lando Norris had the fastest lap of Q1, showing that the McLaren updates really help them.
In Q2 it was Lance Stroll who didn't managed to get into the top 10 and just made it into P12. Verstappen was the quickest, but in P2 was Oscar Piastri and in P3 Lando Norris again, Albon made it into P4 with his Williams.
Q3 then got really fun in the end when it looked as if Lando Norris would get the pole position for a very short moment, until Max Verstappen was 0.2 seconds faster and claimed his next pole position. Lando Norris was second, his teammate Oscar Piastri third, showing how strong the McLaren is this weekend. Valttiere Bottas got disqualified after the qualifyiing, which means that he will start from the end of the grid instead of P15. The reason for it was that he had less than one liter fuel left in his car.
Starting Grid:
Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
Lando Norris (McLaren)
Oscar Piastri (McLaren)
Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)
Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
George Russell (Mercedes)
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes)
Alex Albon (Williams)
Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin)
Pierre Gasly (Alpine)
Nico Hülkenberg (Haas)
Lance Stroll (Aston Martin)
Esteban Ocon (Alpine)
Logan Sargeant (Williams)
Sergio Perez (Red Bull)
Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri)
Guanyu Zhou (Alfa Romeo)
Nyck de Vries (Alpha Tauri)
Kevin Magnussen (Haas)
Valtteri Bottas (Alfa Romeo) (DQ.)

Hi guys! Its after the French GP and this means it’s time for my review!
As I didn’t write about the Qualifying on saturday, I will put it in first. To be honest I just didn’t want to put myself in front of my computer. It was so hot and I just want to do nothing at all xD. But anyways here it is:
Q1:
I was so so sad that Pierre got eliminated in Q1 at his homesoil. His free practice sessions were promising and I thought he could end up in the top 10! He must have been so dissapointed of everything.
Mick’s fastest lap was deleted for exeeding the track limits. Not again those damn track limits. It’s okay because its a rule everyone has to abide by and he clearly broke it. But it hurts. This car had much more potential as we saw with Kevin on P6 in Q1.
Alex had a spin which ended in a visit off track and would had cost his way into Q2 but he was the lucky one who has got benefited of Mick’s deleted lap.
Q2:
Both Ferraris were literally flying! INSANE!!!! It really looked like they could easily make a 1-2 finish if Carlos wouldn’t had a grid penalty for using new parts.
Speaking of Carlos. He. Was. A. Beast. Out. There! The gap he had in front of Max was HUGE! It’s amazing what he can do if there is no pressure on his shoulders.
I actually don’t want to talk about it but Daniel out in Q2 again ....it’s pain and I’m not sure how much longer I can handle it. And it was so damn close again. The gap between Daniel and making it into Q3 was just about 0.086. This is literally NOTHING.
Q3:
Guys, who of you had kidnapped Ferraris strategists and replaced them to people who know what they’re doing? There can’t be no other explaination for a working strategy! Charles got slipstream from Carlos to help him getting on pole. Now it makes sense that they wanted Carlos geting in Q3 even he had to start from behind. Charles owes him a lot. Thank you Carlos for beeing such a nice wingman!
Lando ended in a Merc sandwich on P5! Good job Lando! My little papaya heart loved it, even if I’d rather like to see Daniel in the top ten if not both of them. But of cause he actually ended in the top ten at the end due of two drivers getting grid penalties but I want him landing in the top ten without this kind of ‘help’.
As always, qualifying left me with mixed feelings. Is there any chance of feeling nothing but happiness after Qualifying or race? Likely not. I just like too many of the drivers and that’s why I have to life with a certain amount of dissapointment every race weekend. But is it too much to ask for a little bit of luck for Daniel or Pierre? But I don’t want to annoy you with this too much so let’s start talking about sunday. For me  racedays starts with the drivers parade and in France we saw a comeback of every driver getting an own car and someone who drives them around the track. Not the best start in my opinion. I already have told you, that I don’t like this kind of drivers parades and that I’d rather like to see all of the drivers on the truck. But there were two things worth mentioning for. Max signed his driver’s cap during the parade and somehow it made me happy. Max maybe isn’t always the kindest person and sometimes his temper is a bit over the top but in my opinion he really is a nice guy and things like this are proving it. I really liked it that they brought the local heros closer to their own grandstands. It’s always somthing special to race at home. And it was even cooler that Pierre gave his cap to one of the marshals at some point of the parade. It’s just a little gesture but I guess this guy will be smiling for a long time now :D. At least I would. Nothing could wash the bright smile off my face for a while :D. According to my notes we finally come to the race itself.
Daniel had a nice start. He gained a position already in the first seconds of the race! Sadly Lando couldn’t stay in his position but I honestly didn’t expect him to be able to do so. Mercedes have  made a big step forward and there was no way Lando could fight with them in his Mclaren.
Where the hell did Alonso come from? He was suddenly there on P4 or 5?I haven’t seen him but he must had a nice start as well. Esteban Ocon in the second Alpine caused a collision with Yuki instead and got a 5sec penalty for it.
Kevin had the best start I guess. He gained 7 positions in the first lap. It’s nice to see what the car is capable of.
Lap 18. Yellow flag in the third sector. Charls Leclerc in the wall. This can’t be true. Not Charles! Firstly i thought that it was the throttle pedal again and I wanted to burn this fucking shitbox of a car down. But after a short time it became clear that Charles made a mistake. But the worst thing was to hear Leclercs team radio after his crash. This scream full of despair and dissapointment was the most heartbreaking sound I’ve ever heard. And I pray to never ever have to hear something like this again! Poor Charles. He neded more than a hug after this. I was sitting in front of the tv and I wanted to cheer him up so badly.
But of course the Ferrari shit show had more suffering to show to us. Charles crash leaded to a SC and Sainz took the oportunity of a free pit stop like most of the drivers. When his stop was finnisched, his crew sended him out unsafely and Albon almost crashed into Carlos in the pit lane. This sunday went extremly wrong at Ferrari. And Ocon was almost involved too. Carlos got a 5sec penalty for the unsafe release.
In lap 20 Yuki was forced to ritire the car. His car had massive damage. I would say this was a late result of his crash with Ocon in tthe beginning of the race.
I hadn’t much time to get some breath. In Lap 23 another yellow flag poped up and was caused by Mick Schumacher. Zhou went to box for a new nose right after it and I was sure that there must have been a crash between Mick and Zhou. At least Mick could stay out but he lost much time after spinning and getting back on track again.
Not the Ferrari crew telling Carlos wrong infos about his penalty and Carlos had to correct them? It’s hilarious somehow. But in a painful way.
There was another yellow flag in lap 38. Magnussen forced Latifi off the track and Kevin had to retire the car afterwards. Latifi had to retire at the end as well.
The fight between Carlos and Checo was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen during the French GP. I really enjoyed to see this amazing overtake. But have you seen his onboard during the overtake? The crew really told him to box DURING an overtake? Do those guys even watching the race? xD. And why did they boxed him after it? Were his tyres so bad? Even Carlos was wondering about this choice of strategy. I guess the original Ferrari strategists were back again after their day off in qualifying xD
George and Checo touched each other in lap 42. I don’t know who’s foult it was. None of them was innocent in my opinion but I would say it was more George’s fault. And he literally discussed over 3 laps with his crew about the incident? At the end Toto had to step in to end the discussion and he sounded slightly pissed.
In lap 49 and with only 4 more laps to go, Zhou stopped his car off track and this caused a VSC. It was to short to let other drivers do a pit stop. Perez missed the restart after the vsc was ending and george took the oportunity to pass him. The last laps were so exciting to see because there was the possibility that Checo could get his 3rd place back before the end but Gorge made crossed the finish line at third after Lewis  and Max. First double podium for Mercedes after a long long time! Well done! Good drive boys!
I was a bit afraid when Lewis layed himself down on the floor at the cool down room. Especially after I heard that his drinking system was broken during the race.
One important thing: WHERE WERE THOSE MONKEY TROPHIES? I felt robbed! It was probably the last race at Paul Ricard for quite a time and they didn’t have one of the best and hilarious trophies in the whole season? Don’t do this to me! xD
The race was way more interesting than I would have thought. Congratulations to Max, Lewis and George! And both McLaren in the points again! Sadly they didn’t showed Daniels fight with Esteban. I have to watch it  on their onboards before we are heading into the Hungarian race weekend. My personal highlights were Carlos’ overtake on Checo and all the hilarious team radios. But it still hurts that Charles crashed out himself and max could gain more points in the championchip. I really would like to see Charles win it this year but this will be really difficult. Especialy with thios clown team behind him. And of course he have to stop making mistakes. But the team, the bad strategy and this unstable car costed him more points than his own mistakes. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed! But that’s it. Over and out until next weekend and maybe I will get myself to write my review a bit sooner next time XD See you at the Hungarian GP <3

F1 Re-Watch 2013: Round 18 - USA
Yeehaw! (sorry, couldn't help myself). What can I say the 2024 testing hype is getting to me and I really want to finally finish my 2013 watch through before the first race of the season, so we're on Austin!
Again, very few memories of this race bar Seb's first and only win at COTA and the very iconic "We have to remember these days..." team radio 🥹
So let's get into it!
As far as I can remember, they just had regular Pirelli podium caps instead of the cowboy ones but I could be wrong.
Honestly I don't mind COTA as a track that much. It's not one of the greats but it is decent.
What the fuck is Hulkenberg doing in 4th??????
Starting the grid order whiplash early I see
Speaking of, let's get into it: Seb pole and Webber P2, normal for 2013; Grosjean P3; Hulkenberg P4 (WILD); Lewis P5; Val P9 (hell yeah); Jev P14 and Jenson P15 :(
OH we also have Heikki Kovalinen filling in for Kimi as he missed the last two races of 2013, he lines up P8.
Mediums and Hards are the tyre compounds for this race.
[Formation Lap]: It is also Quite Warm™️. To the point where it may become a 2-stop race due to thermal degradation.
"Mercedes don't care if they're 19th and 20th so long as Ferrari are 21st and 22nd" um... I care
[Start/Lap 1]: Grosjean takes P2 at turn 1!!!!
and Lewis takes P3!!!!!
and we already have yellow flags
aaaaand they're gone
shit Sutil's in the wall (he's fine)
aaaaaaand Safety Car
well that was certainly a first lap.
Sutil's girlfriend facepalming is a mood
[Lap 2]: Bernd Maylander sighting!!! Our forever Driver of The Day.
[Lap 3]: as it's a SC there's really nothing much going on apart from shots of people in garages
and the replay of Webber's start was actually fine, it was just where he'd positioned the car that led to him losing places
[Lap 4]: Hi Ted!!!!
woo SC in this lap
let's go zoom zoom!
Seb's had a great SC restart, I miss it when they didn't stress me out
[Lap 5]: "We think Jenson might have a bit of front wing damage" fUCK
racing gods stop being mean to my boy
[Lap 6]: Seb leads by 1.9 seconds like the GOAT he is
Alonso is down in P7 I have zero idea how that happened.
and once again I'm quite compelled by just watching the cars go round even though there's nothing much happening sdvhvhd
[Lap 7]: Webber is catching up to the back of Lewis 👀
[Lap 8]: Not Maldonado having a wobbly front wing (possibly from the contact with Sutil)
[Lap 9]: again nothing much happening but cars going around the track are fun to just watch 😅
[Lap 10]: Though Webber's dropped back from Lewis a tiny bit
Jenson is in the dizzying heights of... P14 🥲
Hulkenberg is also the conductor of a little DRS train in P5
[Lap 12]: a shot of the McLaren pit wall since there's so little racing happening
[Lap 13]: Lewis getting a little snarky with Bono instantly being followed with a shot of the Merc pit wall dbhdfjbshfdj
and Webber gets past Lewis!!
The TV feed literally cut to it as it was happening so I got a bit of a fright
It was a saucy move though, round the outside of turn 16
[Lap 15]: Once again asking where I can get myself an emotional support Bono
also also HOW is Rosberg down in P11 but Hulkenberg is in P5. Nico be serious for a minute please.
and by be serious, I mean get your pretty little head further up the field and be the superior Nico
...Not Hulkenberg being faster than Lewis too 😭
once again asking Mercedes to get their shit together
JENSON SIGHTING!!!!!
[Lap 16]: He's chasing down Massa for 13th
the TV feed following Jenson and immediately getting a Seb fastest lap, the racing gods are Sebson truthers
[Lap 17]: Seb onboard!!!!! He exists!!!!
he also has a 6.3 second gap over Grosjean
"I've got no grip man" every race we get closer to the maiden 'Bono my tyres are gone'
[Lap 19]: Anyway I haven't done a top 5 overview yet, it's: Seb, Grosjean, Webber, Lewis and Hulkenberg
Speaking of Nico v Nico, Rosberg takes P10 from Ricciardo
It was a good move too! Started in the braking zone of turn 16 and ended around turn 18, probably the longest bit of racing we've had so far
[Lap 21]: And Jenson makes his first and possibly only stop
he comes out in P16 😭
[Lap 24]: Bottas pits from P8 and comes out in P10
[Lap 26]: I think Lewis got the message after the third box Bono, but I appreciate the dedication to the bit (Lewis has made his one and likely only stop, like many mediums off for hards)
[Lap 28]: Seb finally makes his first stop! And also for the hard tyres
Lewis jumped Hulkenberg at his stop!!!!!! God!! Bless!!!!
also also 🚨WE ARE FINALLY AT HALF DISTANCE🚨
and honestly thank goodness, this race has not been it thus far
[Lap 29]: Webber also makes his first stop
and oof 2.3 second stop.
I wish I could say that Fernando made a great move on Gutierrez but the on board camera was at a funky angle so I didn't actually see it
[Lap 30]: Grosjean has pitted and comes out between the two Red Bulls
aaaaaand a Seb fastest lap 👌
oof Lewis is not happy this race 😩
[Lap 31]: Perez passes Gutierrez on the main straight
[Lap 32]: Nico Rosberg finally gets himself into P11
and lol at the fact you can barely hear Ross Brawn on the TV feed.
the V8 engines said "I've had enough of this guy"
[Lap 33]: Top 5 overview since it's been a while: Seb, Grosjean, Webber, Lewis and Hulkenberg
Webber is only within a couple of seconds of Grosjean though
And Jenson is still in P14 🥲
Rosberg takes P10 from Di Resta down the inside of turn 16!!!
Another very fun move 👌
[Lap 34]: And Valtteri briefly took P8 from Gutierrez
for a 2013 Williams that's basically winning a grand prix
[Lap 35]: I can't believe I'd forgotten about the rotating cameras on the front wings 😵‍💫
BUT Valtteri re-takes P8 - through the esses section!!!!
another peach of a move 👏
[Lap 37]: Webber's been dropping back from Grosjean by half a second...
Comms don't think he has a problem but biiiig oofs
"Rosberg's starting to catch Bottas" oh the 'Nico's sudden retirement causing Valtteri to take his seat' of it all
[Lap 38]: Webber just did the fastest lap, he's fine
meanwhile Jenson's in P13!!!! progress!!!!
Being a Jenson fan in 2013 was rough, let me tell you
[Lap 39]: *crosses off 'Andrea Stella talking to Fernando in Italian' off my bingo card*
huh, Massa made a second stop for mediums
inch resting
nvm IT PUTS JENSON IN 12TH!!!!!!
[Lap 40]: Seb sighting!!!!
[Lap 41]: livery watch: oh the navy and gold Toro Rosso livery how I miss you...
[Lap 42]: Rocky once again telling Seb to slow down dfvhdfvhd
unstoppable force vs immovable object
Rocky and Bono are the founders of the Exhausted Race Engineers Club
[Lap 44]: and we now find ourself in the very strange universe where Alonso (in a Ferrari) can't get past Hulkenberg (in a Sauber)
You'd think it would be an immediate pass, but no
[Lap 45]: and Fernando finally gets the move done on the exit of turn one
Lewis is the next car ahead...
potential stress inducing battle aside, another Seb sighting!!!
He is unbothered, moisturised, flourishing
[Lap 46]: Jenson closing up to the back of Di Resta
[Lap 47]: damn Fernando is already within DRS range of Lewis
the old man is old manning again
[Lap 48]: Speaking of old men, Webber's back in DRS range of Grosjean
[Lap 50]: Still catching but not quite close enough
Lewis is back to 2 seconds ahead of Fernando
and most importantly on midfield watch, Valtteri is still in P8
Jenson's into P11!!!!!!!! WE MAY STILL GET POINTS!!!!!!
oh a Simon Rennie sighting for the girlies (gn)
[Lap 52]: 🚨5 laps remaining!!!!🚨
honestly the second half of the race was much better than the first, curse you one stop races
Jenson is 2.4 seconds from P10, I'm not sure if he's going to make it
[Lap 53]: you know that "I wanna see my little boy" vine? That's me every time the TV feed cuts to Seb
[Lap 54]: Jenson is now 6 tenths behind P10
come onnnnnn JB
[Lap 55]: We literally have 2 laps left
can't type. too invested in watching the Jenson v Ricciardo battle.
HE TAKES P10 ON THE EXIT OF TURN 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that's my guy that's my bestie
[Lap 56]: Last lap!
looks like everyone else is going to hold position
[Finish]: AND SEB WINS IN COTA!!!!!!!!!
His 8th win on the bounce, which at the time made him the first driver to do that in one season. MY GOAT!!!
rest of the Top 10: Grosjean, Webber, Lewis, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Perez, Bottas, Rosberg and Jenson
well, that kind of felt like a race of two halves, which I'm very much pinning on the one stop strategy the bulk of the cars ran. But WHEW once the drivers didn't have to conserve their tyres the racing was great! Loads of battles up and down the field which was so fun to watch.
Next race, and the last one of 2013 - Brazil!

Max Verstappen records the fastest time in the first practice while Lewis Hamilton slumps into 12th
Max Verstappen records the fastest time in the first practice... while his arch-rival Lewis Hamilton slumps down into 12th with a disappointing run on home soil ahead of British Grand Prix Max Verstappen ran quickest in first practice ahead of Red Bull team-mate Perez The 25-year-old Dutchman topped the charts on Friday with a time of 1.28.600 Follow MailSport on Threads here: https://www.threads.net/@mailsport  By Nathan Salt For Mailonline Published: 09:40 EDT, 7 July 2023 | Updated: 09:40 EDT, 7 July 2023 Max Verstappen's stranglehold over the rest of the paddock showed no signs of loosening as he ran quickest in first practice ahead of Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez. Verstappen was unhappy at the start of the season, describing driving the Silverstone circuit as like driving 'on ice' - but it did little to hurt his lap-time, topping the charts with a 1.28.600. The Dutchman is on a five-race win streak and Red Bull are looking to make it 10 wins from 10 this weekend in what has been a flawless campaign to this point. Hope in the grandstands is that Lewis Hamilton can go through the gears - figuratively and literally - to put a challenge to Red Bull, but his 12th-placed run in first practice did little to inspire, a grand 1.168seconds off the pace. His Mercedes team-mate George Russell was even further down, slumped in 14th, while McLaren's British hope, Lando Norris, ran eighth. Max Verstappen's stranglehold over the rest of the paddock showed no signs of loosening The Dutchman ran quickest in first practice ahead of Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez The issue Hamilton complained off was severe bouncing in his car while Russell bemoaned a lack of grip, hurting their lap times. There was a surprise third runner behind the Red Bulls in Williams' Alex Albon, who was 0.253 seconds off the pace, while Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso slotted in fourth. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished fifth, just 0.012 seconds off Alonso. Red Bull's obvious speed advantage was accentuated by Silverstone's high-speed swerves and it suits the aerodynamics of the car, to the chagrin of Hamilton and Co. 5. the tragedy of f*rrari part 2
(2022, dir. m*ttia bin*tto)
Beautiful day! @/cardigan · Jul 4
grow up idolizing brand your godfather and role model drove for > call them your only team > develop through their junior system and win everything there is to win for them > prove yourself as their number one driver despite doubts over your age and inexperience > be poised for your first championship and have the potential for the best season of your career in one of the best and fastest cars on the grid > be a f*rrari driver > lose to max v*rstappen
f*rrari went into the season looking very competitive. charles won two of the first three races this year and after the third race he had a championship lead of 46 points. people thought he had the championship locked up. this was very deceptive due to max having unrepresentative car issues in two of those three races. to be more specific, charles won the first race (bahrain), max won the second (jeddah), charles won the third (australia), and then max won the fourth (imola). i remember thinking, i hope this pattern continues... and then, well, charles didn't win another race for three months (austria). AND AFTER THAT ONE, HE NEVER WON ANOTHER. for perspective, this season is 22 races long and despite charles' strong start, max went on to win 15 total races. the problem is not that their car is bad. well, it's not only that their car is bad. it's that their team culture is bad and they say things that make it sound like they have no drive for improvement.
here's a fun little summary of charles' season.
BAHRAIN • P1 win after a healthy fight with max
JEDDAH • P2 after a healthy fight with max
AUSTRALIA • P1 grand slam weekend (win/pole/fastest lap/led every lap)
IMOLA • P6 in the race, P2 in the sprint, which he'd led until the end despite max taking pole, until max overtook for the sprint win in the last laps. had been chasing ch*co for P2 during the race but spun, sending him down the order before he recovered to P6
SPA • P6 after power unit penalties started him p15, although max literally won the race from p14 lol anyway he would have been p5 if ferrari hadn't pitted him for fastest lap, narrowly releasing him into alonso's path, him not getting the fastest lap after all, then getting a 5 second penalty for speeding in the pit lane by 0.1 km/h due to a visor tear-off damaging one of the car's sensors. actually here's charles' own summary of it: "P9 in Lap 1 then tear off in the brakes that causes front right brake overheating, have to stop to take off the tear off off the brakes, come back to P5, took a 5 seconds penalty for being too quick in pit lane because of a burnt sensor caused by the first issue. Beautiful day!"
after the last race he broke his tie in points with ch*co to take P2 in the drivers' championship (kind of meaningless, although he seems to get a bonus for f*rrari for that). i think it was only significant because max had taken the title a month and a half ago lol max and r*d bull were kinda untouchable in the last half of the season and it's sad. the way charles went from "clear" P1 to fighting for P2 in the championship lmao. he's lucky that ch*co's not as good as max... but of course he's unlucky that he drives for f*rrari. for a multitude of reasons, out of his 9 poles this season he only won from 2 of them.
