Ok BBC has it and isn't citing sources, but "BBC has learned" is usually a pretty good indicator that they have verified sources. They admit to the story first braking on Auto Motor und Sport, which is a German syndicate that has broken several major F1 stories before. They say that they have "independently verified by BBC Sport with high-level sources close to Red Bull and Newey."

There is no confirmation as to where he is going, whether that be Ferrari or Aston Martin. I could see him going to Ferrari because part of the reason he's leaving is the struggles with the money issue. Ferrari just got 90 million of cold hard cash from HP and Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are probably the next best thing to Max Verstappen. Aston Martin's money is certainly attractive, and it wouldn't be a problem to work with Fernando, but I think Ferrari will be where he lands.

Again, the only verification is from BBC, there are not other articles citing this as confirmed, and we know BBC has been wrong before.

What is your opinion about Xavi? I'm still stuck in Bahrain this year when, in my opinion, he was a calming and supportive presence for Charles during that race with the brakes screwed up. But I see complaints quite often about him.

Xavi gets a lot of hate because he’s often the voice for a lot of questionable Ferrari strat decisions (like Monaco 2022….shudders). But remember that it’s been said that in mid-2022 when Charles was getting fucked over for the WDC by his own team, Xavi was the only one he trusted.

Xavi isn’t as “personable” from a PR perspective as some of the other race engineers to top drivers, he doesn’t bicker like GP with Max, isn’t talking about bets like Lando with Will Joseph. But Xavi isn’t there to run PR, he’s there to ensure that Charles and the pitwall are communicating and I think he does that very well. His tone is always clear and calm, and even though the “question.” or “we are checking” has become a meme it’s an excellent way to be spoken to over patchy radio when you’re speeding around a circuit at 300km/h. Xavi has become an easy target for people on the internet to joke about (I also think there’s a slightly disturbing element of him not having a British accent in there as well) but I think he’s one of the best race engineers. He’s calm and encouraging with Charles, is quiet when Charles needs him to be, and ensures there’s absolutely no way for him to be misunderstood.

Also, we don’t know what happens at the pitwall. My guess is that Xavi advocates quite well for Charles and his strategies—remember that Ferrari didn’t really want him on a Suzuka one stop to begin with.
