Here's the map of the end credits that someone has translated, the path to Peridea. Love the attention to detail. I didn't realize how close Lothal was to Mandalore 😳

so im going back through a crown of candy after the ravening war, thinking of maybe updating my acoc heroforges, when i see something I have somehow never noticed in my bajillion re-watches of acoc
Tumblr media
pretty normal, im clocking all the sad sucrosi road parallels, but what’s that on theo’s cloak?
Tumblr media
right there. something’s printed on it. is it the seal of house rocks? enhance
Tumblr media
no, there’s text, or at least the beginnings of text, and that’s not the house rocks seal. what does the text say?
Tumblr media
we got a definite F and R, and that thing’s starting to look like a face
wait a fucking second
Tumblr media
it’s a fucking fruit rollup. with the tongue tattoo things they used to have on it in the 90s and early 2000s
Tumblr media
that’s GENIUS
as always, the miniature artists at d20 fucking knocked it out of the park again. it even looks all distorted and stretched and faded like they always did.

I will never not compliment the intricacies of the 2017 Beauty and the Beast remake
...because six years later, I still discover things like THIS
They didn't have to make the halls of the castle paradolic, but they did, and now the castle has a face that fades into darkness after the staff dies.
Guys, the castle dies too.

OK, but can I talk about how Good Omens 2 took the quote/verse “It is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle that is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God” and just DESTROYED it?
Like that healed SO MUCH of my religious trauma
(Spoilers bellow)
The story of the resurrectionists where they’re digging up the bodies, and how her being poor made her do these terrible things… Aziraphale thought it was a good thing being poor, but here she was at the bottom doing “evil”. And then she lost the one thing she was living for, her friend, and so she needed money in order to enter the kingdom of heaven because the heaven she made with her friend was destroyed.
And then there’s the story of Job. He, for no reason, had everything taken away from him. And it almost destroyed his wife’s faith, and it almost destroyed him, and they were about to be really mad about not having their original children. They probably would’ve gone against heaven, but love is their heaven and love is where their family is so in the end they were happy.
And then with ineffable bureaucracy. They had the taste of the most powerful positions in all of heaven, Earth, and Hell. And they gave that up because their love was more than a heaven (or hell) to them. It’s because they tasted power that they realized it was meaningless compared to love.
And it’s only because of “evil” that any of them survived this long, they all broke and bent the rules (or had them broke/bent for them) because they realized that bending/breaking the rules was actually the least harmful outcome. And the most Heavenly (at least to them. And that’s all that matters.)
And when good tries to do good and evil tries to do evil, they both fail. As seen with Armageddon. As seen with the story of Job (how heaven almost let them kill). As seen with the naazi zombies.
Emotion and love wins in the end, for both season 1 and 2.

2012 Jesus Christ Superstar was peak. The costumes alone stand out. The punk rock look, the dreads and tattoos. Key figures of a rebellion.
The one who stands out the most has always been Judas. With his full sleeves, dreads, a keffeyeh he wears proudly. The symbolism used as they made this musical for its modern audiences.
His eyeliner making his look just that much colder. This man not only looks as queer as he is he's a stand out. You know just from his costume alone how important he is to the overarching narrative.

oh my god. idk if this was obvious to y’all but I’ve just noticed that right after crowley “kills” Job’s goats, behind him we can see crows flying from the places where the goats were supposed to be. and then later we see that the goats aren’t really dead but turned into crows.

I Am A Media Student And Will Therefore Overanalyze This Shot Pt1
Right I just want to talk about this shot here:
Tumblr media
From Transmission.
So the first interesting thing here is their outfits - one of the most interesting things this series has been the antagonists' designs. Gabriel has always worn light colours, but before there was red too, like with Nathalie. Red is often used to connote danger and villainy, but there is now not a trace of the colour on Gabriel's outfit. The new outfit that he has designed for himself is entirely white, even his hair and glasses. White is often used in conjunction with purity and innocence, suggesting that Gabriel is trying to put forth an angelic image of himself - fitting, as he refuses to admit that Ladybug and Cat Noir aren't the cause of his problems, and continues to refute the idea that he's the bad guy in this situation. Nathalie, on the other hand, is very different. Her outfit is black with red, both colours typically associated with darkness and villainy respectively. We could otherwise see this as a very businesslike, coordinated, sophisticated style (typical business attire) with a streak (the literal red streak in her hair, the stripe on her glasses) of villainy, of vengeance, spite, malevolence, whatever word you want to use - either way, she's not making any attempt to hide it. She hasn't made any attempt to change this outfit at all, and the only addition in S5 is the back brace, aligning with the idea that she knows that she is the villain, and acknowledges the severity of her crimes. Even the lighting is significant - there are far more shadows on Nathalie and her side of the shot than Gabriel, who is almost haloed in this light. However, when you look at their eyes, you get a very different story. Gabriel's eyes are very, very dark, a sort of greyish-black, whereas Nathalie's are bright blue - which seems at odds with their design otherwise, and you'd expect them to be the other way around. However, this serves to emphasise the truth - the eyes are often described as being the windows to the soul, and eyes are commonly used in animation to tell us whether or not we are supposed to sympathise with a character (I can't find it now but I saw a post about Bruno from Encanto that summed this up perfectly). Blue eyes are normally associated with clarity, innocence or youth, here - which makes a stark contrast to everything else about Nathalie's design, and implies that there is more to her story than we know. Gabriel's eyes, however, are dark, and we can't quite tell what he's thinking.
The next thing is the composition. Gabriel has just said the line, "I'm not a monster", but the shot makes it glaringly obvious who is in the right here. Nathalie is higher up than Gabriel, having a literal "moral" high ground. Both are looking at the other - Gabriel looking up, obviously, and Nathalie is quite literally "looking down" on Gabriel - just as she's looked down on his recent attempts to get the Miraculous, and his attempts to "be a better father" to Adrien. The light directly between them gives the idea of something separating them - that something being the heroes, who are the reason they were driven apart (Gabriel's obsession) but also are the reason that neither can betray the other (because of mutually assured destruction - neither can accuse the other without implicating themselves). However, Nathalie being the one closer to Adrien's room implies that she is blocking Gabriel's path or "guarding" the entrance to Adrien's room.
Finally, the symmetry of the shot gives the impression that these are two characters who could easily have followed the others path. They're wearing similar clothes - high-necked shirts and blazers, both have glasses, and their hair is at a similar angle (if that makes any sense). Even their stances are similar here, which is significant as Nathalie usually stands slightly hunched over ever since the beginning of S4, when she started walking with the brace. (Edit: I've recently noticed that this is something that is present since S1.) This implies that both of them could have gone either way - Nathalie could have continued further and further in assisting Gabriel, either as Mayura or potentially (now that they have all the Miraculous) with another power, and continued to be the "monster" that she thinks she is. On the other hand, Gabriel could have realised that his actions were monstrous, rather than denying it, and put aside his battle with Ladybug and Cat Noir the way that Nathalie has. Either of them could easily have chosen a different path.
Anyway, there's my over-analysis! I love this shot so much.

The Prince of Cats
It's interesting that Tevildo's character in The Tale of Tinúviel is an early version of Sauron in The Silmarillion. Everything about Tevildo in that particular story parallels Sauron--being a great servant of Morgoth; holding Beren captive (which caused Lúthien to endeavor to rescue him); and the fight with Huan. Tevildo is even said to be a fay in beastlike shape, which (fay) is probably an early version of the word Maia (roughly), because Melian is a fay, and they are part of the group of beings that...
[...] were born before the world, and are older than its oldest, and are not of it. - (an excerpt from the Tale of the Coming of the Valar, taken from the book Beren and Lúthien.)
But what really got me is the description of Tevildo's eyes. We all know that Sauron's Eye is like a cat's, but since Tevildo is Sauron (in that early version of the story of Beren and Lúthien) maybe there was more to the casting of Charlie Vickers than we thought (him being green-eyed and what not).
From The Tale of Tinúviel:
His eyes were long and very narrow and slanted, and gleamed both red and green [...]
Tumblr media
And I've always thought that the sharpening of his teeth as he screamed was to draw the connection to him being Lord of Werewolves... but now that I think about it... he looks more like a cat than a wolf.
His purr was like the roll of drums and his growl like thunder, but when he yelled in wrath it turned the blood cold...
Tumblr media
...and indeed small beasts and birds were frozen as to stone, and dropped lifeless often at the very sound.
Tumblr media
And just as a reminder of what plays as he drops her...
(by the way, the mind-warping only spanned the length of the staring contest--meaning we got to see what happened outside and inside her mind. He drops her in the water, while we hear yelling in the music, hinting at what part of the vision she is in.)
Here are some sidenotes:
1) Reminder that Charlie said in that one interview that his favorite creatures in Middle-earth were cats and/or dogs (particularly werewolves and Tevildo).
2) When Charlie says that he's excited about the different SHAPES that Sauron takes in the Second Age, and that he himself is excited to explore those things...
We know Sauron takes on different shapes in this era. All I can say is maybe to that. Maybe we're going to do those things. But I'm incredibly excited to explore him doing these things that we know he does.
What different shapes might we see, I wonder.

I love love love the way Grace was choreographed to reflect on her character, like how in High School Is Killing Me she covers her mouth for every "fuck", and makes the sign of the cross, and the jerky way she moves during Dirty Girl because she has no idea how to be sexy - such small details that truly bring her to life so magnificently!
Also, during Bully/Bury the Bully, I think it's hilarious that she's so straight-laced that she even snaps on 1&3 rather than 2&4!
Angela's portrayal was phenomenal, truly magnificent
