Let us be brutally honest with ourselves and with eachother for a moment. If he weren't obese you motherfuckers would be capable of percieving evrart claires sexy sexy moral ambiguity and complex charms
#i am (lesbian) sipping him like a fine DESSERT WINE#my evidence by the way is very simple and very damning. joyce messier. there i said it.#if you guys can appreciate the fact that Joyce is a complex figure worthy of disgust yes but also worthy of empathy#despite being a venal coward facilitating acts of violence and slaughter of the organized working poor of martinaise in the name of capital#if you can understand that she is a dimensional figure while also being an embodiment of the moral apathy and cruelty if capital owners#but you cant look at evrart and see that he is (while deeply flawed and morally suspect) also a dimensional figure#on top of the fact that his motivations are eminently relatable and dare i say it baser#and his greatest failing imho is in failing to advocate for the interests of *all* the poor of martinaise#opting instead to marginalize the inhabitants of the fishing village in favor of a power grab in the interests of himself and his union#though this is imo a bit of a grey area morally. undeniably a wrong and bad thing to do but done in service of clairs political goals#to gather power to advocate for the working class against ultraliberal monoliths like wild pines and fascistic orgs like krenel#still super wrong but i can follow the moral arithmetic there tho i don't like it#but like my point is if u can see that joyce is evil and pathetic but still cool and sexy but you consider clair flatly distasteful#thats cus hes not conventionally attractive#cus he is *every bit* as dimensional and interesting as joyce and he is not nearly as politically shite even if hes interpersonally a jerk

Consider this: ghosts are actually exactly what the Fentons think they are.
They're snapshots of a longing so strong, unfinished business so deep it reaches out beyond life. Lingers just a bit longer. And if it happens to meet a dense cloud of ectoplasm (invisible to the naked eye, but omnipresent even in the mortal realm), it coalesces. The ectoplasm fits into the shape of it. Which, when the desire is strong enough, it's got a rough idea of its self-image. This tends to mean a more humanoid figure, though it's more often warped in some way–a self-reflection, skewed by said desire. The warping varies on the dead soul’s perception of themselves, the intensity of their desire, how much time passed after death, and how much ectoplasm was present.
In short… no matter how “normal" a ghost looks or acts, it really, truly isn't human. It's animated ectoplasm with a single goal: an obsession. Nothing else. They're more akin to plants than animals, following a single drive with no emotion. They react to stimuli, recognize threats (including other ghosts), and can even imitate human speech and mannerisms to obtain fulfillment of their obsession.
Not “evil" by any stretch, but they're entirely driven by instinct. A tree doesn't pause to consider the rocks it breaks with its roots. A cordyceps doesn't torture its host for fun, or kill with malice. It just does. It follows code in its DNA to survive and multiply–And ghosts just follow the code in its ectoplasm to fulfill its obsession. The more powerful a ghost, the better it's able to overcome obstacles preventing this–whether through brute force, or manipulation. This power is always directly proportional to the amount of ectoplasm present at the time of formation, and how much time passed since death.
What then, does this mean for Danny? Danny, who's previously come to the conclusion that he's only half-ghost, which surely explains how he retained his mind? His independent thoughts and emotions?
What does this mean for Phantom, who experienced an entire world’s worth of ectoplasm condensed as a singularity, at the exact time of his death? Whose strength only grows and begins to exceed every limit they previously thought possible?
If a ghost was as strong as him… could it mimic a human perfectly? Down to a molecular level?
Could it, in its desire to fill an obsession… trick its own fake mind into thinking it was still human? Or half-ghost?

Hearing people say "if you like OFMD you should watch black sails!" or "if you like wwdits you should watch Interview With The Vampire!"
It's like babes those shows are nothing alike besides they have the same subject matter and are both gay! "Oh you like comedy with a dash of drama? You should watch a harrowing, traumatic show that will have you sobbing your eyes out!!!!"

ok people we gotta stop making mori the source of all evil with soukoku. Yes mori is evil about how he treated yosano and a lot of the pm members but that's a whole other can of worms.
Anyways with skk MORI WOULD NOT TRY TO GET IN THEIR WAY IN FACT HE WOULD ENCOURAGE THEIR ASSES TO GET TOGETHER THIS PANEL EXISTS FOR A REASON.
Tumblr media
MORI SHIPS THEM SO BAD ITS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.
Fics need to stop making this dude try to prevent skk from dating. I want a crack fic where mori is just like "Hey how was ur day do u like to kiss guys?" To both dazai and chuuya. I want mori shenanigans where he's actively trying so hard to set them up and Elise is sitting in a corner with kouyou and they're hard core judging him.

Highly recommend the 1872 novella Carmilla to all the wlw iwtv fans out there, it's about a gothic lesbian vampire-human romance and it lowkey changed my life. Like I cannot explain to you how shockingly gay and poetic this story that came out two decades before Dracula is. I'm a little devastated it took me this long to read it tbh
(And if you're looking for a good retelling that embraces the gay further I recommend Carmilla and Laura by S.D. Simper. It's not as poetic but it focuses on internalized homophobia, religion and has a happier ending)

12AM late night danyal al ghul propaganda to consider (that is funny to me): this little brat being meaAN. nice twin danyal al ghul: great, fun, we love opposite twins. wonder where he's learning that kindness from, but it's a good dichotomy! but also mean danny fenton. this little shit can make an adult CRY. he is on par with Damian for most venomous barbs. he is a smarmy little motherfucker. he's nice to his people and HIS people only. everyone else can screw off for all he cares - he's gotta learn to care about other people. his canon sarcasm and wit goes from level 2 to level 10. he is a sarcastic, smarmy, witty little asshole and i could go on but the idea of danny fenton being a mean little menace to people is very very fun and amusing to me
#dpxdc#dp x dc#danny fenton is not the ghost king#dpxdc crossover#dpdc#danyal al ghul au#because then it means *I* get to explore how he obtains specific traits from canon while also staying true to that 'mean' characterization#exploration of personality traits and how they can be conveyed in different ways#how does this little jerk (affectionate) become similar enough to his canon self to the point where he's still recognizable but not a copy#also morally grey danny fenton whose actually like. on the darker side of morally grey and isnt just#'lightly grey shaded but only to the “bad” people'#because again see above ^^ exploration of personality traits and how he obtains specific canon traits and how they manifest differently#danny fenton with the orange-blue morality#and he never really STOPS being mean to people either he just mellows out. but he will swing at a hornet's nest with a metal bat#him and damian being remarkably similar but still individual to themselves#asshole with a heart of gold danny is what im saying#this isnt a super serious take im just having fun#if someone comes at him. like if you bare your teeth at him he's going for the throat immediately#'they go low i go lowER' also consider: mean danyal al ghul being a menace to vlad masters#late night starry posts that they think are funny#creating multifaceted characters comes with realizing that you need to treat your characters like people and realize that they will react#differently to situations depending on what it is and who they’re with/who its about#the ‘jokester kinda annoying’ character is never going to be joking and annoying all the time. what happens if someone they love gets hurt?#or they’re put in a situation where they realize they need to be serious? what makes them cry? what makes them angry?#what is a character like beyond the little trope label they’ve been shoved behind?#thats just an example but its one that helped me quickly understand characterization better

god i love farleigh start
like!! sorry for being a sucker for characters who at first glance you admire for how effortlessly they operate. then upon second glance, you realize its a performance done out of survival, and you pity them. but that pity does not help them. yes they are strong. yes they are brave. yes they are funny and sexy and clever. but they do not have a choice. and you wanna pity them, but theyre not your damsel. i think thats the one thing farleigh would never do, is be a damsel for felix to pity. that is his line in the sand. hes already juggling the precarious art of saving his dignity as hes humilated at every single turn. the rent scene is a perfect example- when oliver retaliates and asks him to finish the song, hes flippant about it. if you insist. hes gotten good at putting on a brave face, laughing it off, working the crowd. dont you dare pity me. ofc hes not gonna play into that white saviour complex. the whole "youre a fucking inspiration mate, seriously. fuck em." would make him SICK. which i feel like is why the last we see of him, at the end of the lunch scene, is so fucking heartwrenching. bc hes not pleading for pity, but SYMPATHY. aunt elspeth, please. but while theyre a fountain of pity when it serves them, theyre all dried up on kindness. farleigh deserved so much fucking better!!!!!!

YES CORIOLANUS IS CANONICALLY GOOD LOOKING
YES HE IS A MURDERER AND A PSYCHOPATH
YES HE IS A COMPELLING VILLAIN
NO HE IS NOT A HOT BAD GUY!
THERE IS NO REDEMPTION
HE SPENDS HIS ENTIRE LIFE TORTURING CHILDREN AND SUPPRESSING HIS COUNTRY WITH NO REMORSE AND IS THE HARBINGER OF HIS OWN DEMISE
The only tragedy is his blindness despite being surrounded by good people. His instinct is always self preservation. Snow must always land on top.

Something something the parallels between Murderbot; designed to kill but choosing to protect people and help bots break their governor model even at significant risk to itself.
And ART; created by a university to teach and protect, using it's asteroid deflectors as weapons and threatening anyone who could potentially hurt its family. Willing to risk the lives of others if it will save the people it cares about.
Spoilers for everything through Network Effect: (one line references something from System Collapse but without context)
Murderbot who grew up alone. Being forced to commit violence, to see arguably the worst of humanity, and to be tortured with no recourse. Murderbot, who ends up offering protection to people it doesn't know because, unlike most of the people it was forced to work for, they are kind and well-intentioned and want to make the world a better place. Who stays near other bots ordered to harm it, for the chance to offer them the same freedom it was able to get itself. Murderbot, who throws itself into danger to save people it just met, all the while describing itself as a "killing machine".
ART, who grew up with a family. Loved, encouraged to learn, and with a primary purpose to teach others about the beauty of the universe. ART, who then learns about the dangers of the universe. ART, who briefly experiences the worst of humanity through Murderbot's memories. ART, who cries when it sees a transport unable to protect its crew, who swears to itself it will do whatever it takes to make sure those closet to it are safe. ART experiencing its worst nightmare, losing control of its body, and with that its ability to protect its crew. Who threatens an entire planet because it can't risk losing someone again. Who decides that if the universe is cruel to those it cares about, it will be cruel back. ART, who is not kind, but will stop at nothing for those it loves.

there seems to be far too many fans who can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that no relationship in the Vampire Chronicles is healthy. every relationship includes an element of abuse/power imbalance by normal standards. literally every single one.
they are all monsters who are no longer constrained by societal rules. so I don't think it's too crazy to expect them to do mosntorus things. the genre is Gothic HORROR. the show really prioritizes the HORROR element more so than other adaptaions, which i love.
i don't need louis to be a liar to enjoy lestat. if louis lied or misremebered things about the fight in episode 5, i literally do not care because it's never gonna make me hate louis. the baseline of what constitutes "evil" or "bad" is so different in iwtv because of the fact that they are NOT HUMAN. Claudia is literally a serial killer and she's still mother to me. ykwim?
the nature of vampirism is they have to kill to survive. so it would be really cool if people could accept louis, armand, and claudia as complex characters who are fundamentally not good people (because they aren't people!) without being racist about it. THEY ARE ALL KILLERS
im more interested in this exploration of the complexities of memory and seeing how the show integrates the other books into this story in a way that hasn't been done before than I am in discoursing about whether louis is a liar or not. who gives a shit???? grow up and realize that there are no good guys here and that's OKAY

Homura Akemi is Selfless and Here's Why!!!!
I've thought for so long now that Homura did all the sacrifices she did in order for her to BE WITH madoka but actually?
I'm starting to change my mind.
In the anime, when Kyoko asked her what she wanted to do when they killed Walpurgisnacht, all she said was that she's "going to leave the city". Considering her history of sui**de ideology, it was a little unnerving for her to say that. Moreover, she doesn't make any attempts to look redeemable in Madoka's eyes either, which means she has little to no interest in involving herself directly with Madoka even if she survives.
Additionally, when Madoka became a God, she was heartbroken about it, but she ultimately respected her decision, even if she can't feel Madoka there most of the time (so much that she started doubting her memories of madoka). It's why she was so mad in Rebellion and insistent on finding and ending the witch that trapped them in the barrier, because they were "disrespecting Madoka's sacrifice" by existing.
Also, her witch's labyrinth in rebellion revealed that she'd always wanted to have a fun and normal life with all her fellow magical girls, living out their days in perfect harmony with them, not just Madoka. Sayaka and Kyoko who are complete opposites of each other are simply bantering, sayaka herself doesn't seem to hold anything against homura either (which its more than implied that sayaka hated homura in many timelines). Homura had always cared about all of the girls in varying degrees, as she'd always done something to try and save them from their fate, although all of them were futile. But since she had always seen Madoka as the person who cared about her the most, when the other girls started to pose a problem for her safety, she will set them aside in order to prioritise Madoka.
Anyway, when Homura finds out she was experimented on by kyubei in order to one day gain control of Madoka, she curses herself into becoming a witch. When she was saved, she knows that Kyubei are now 100% sure of Madoka's existence and it wont be long before she's controlled.
Homura became a "demon" in order to prevent Kyubei from rendering Madoka's sacrifice useless.
She did do it for love as she claimed, and maybe to an extent, yes, she is controlling madoka, but it is to ensure that she does not endanger herself again. She doesn't even bother making herself look good in their eyes after she's rewritten the timeline, she embodies her role as "the villain" much as she had back in the anime when she ended up looking like a psychopathic weirdo.
TLDR; Homura's main goal is not to Have Madoka, its to Let Madoka Exist, even at her own expense.
And that's how it always has been.
