part five: i was hoping you'd be there

Robin managed to keep her shit together for approximately ten minutes after she stopped watching Steve make his way through security and into the depths of the airport. In the ride back to Steve's place, her leg was shaking so much Nancy discreetly grabbed Robin's pinky and held it in the back of the car.

The rest of the trafficky route back to Steve's all Robin could think about was how to fix things. She knew Steve didn't tell her about Eddie so she could fix things and Steve didn't run off to Italy to hide from everything but the situation still bothered Robin. She hadn't known Eddie for a terribly long time but he made her dingus happy so she held him in relatively high regard. It didn't make sense for him to just cut tail and run without leaving some sort of door open for a resolution and Robin was going to her darndest to figure out how on earth she could find that crack.

When they got back to Steve's apartment, Nancy didn't let Robin go long without asking for an explanation.

"Robs, babe, what is going on?" Nancy asked.

"I need to figure out how to solve Steve and Eddie." Robin answered.

"I don't think Steve wants you too. He seemed pretty resolved to close that chapter." Nancy urged.

"I know what he said but that's not what he wants. Also Eddie is a huge dummy if he doesn't realize how good he had it with Steve and also that Steve would never cheat on anyone. Especially not after y'all's whole thing. No offense." Robin continued.

"Okay so we aren't letting this go. What's the plan?" Nancy asked.

"Thanks for your support, love. I just can't figure out why Eddie jumped to the conclusion that you and Steve were together again. I mean no offense but like that ship very publicly sailed," Robin said.

"I'm trying really hard not to take offense but the more often you say it the more I am having trouble not being offended," Nancy snarked.

"Sorry, dingus wormed his way into my little heart long before you so I still gotta give you shit over soulmate solidarity. But back to the matter at hand. Eddie only assumed you would only be visiting Steve if you were trying to get back together when really you were coming to see little old me. So what if I came out. Like what if we came out? And shared some of the pictures from like super early on and thanked Steve for being a great friend for many years when I wasn't ready to take that step," Robin knew she was rambling but, hell, she was on a roll.

"Are you ready for that? I'm happy to take your lead on all this. It's not like we haven't already told everyone who is actually important to us. I mostly write freelance nowadays anyways so there isn't really some big bag corporate overlord I need to worry about. You know Steve doesn't need you to do this? It's one thing if you're ready to come out on your own, it's a whole different thing to do it for someone else," Nancy counseled.

"I really think I'm ready. I'm sick of Steve feeling like he needs to come to everything with me and you're stateside a lot more often and I'd love to go out on dates without the next day having like a million articles speculate if you're trying to move in on Steve. I think it's time," Robin rationalized.

"All right, then. We're doing this. Should we use this as an excuse to make Jon take cute couple pictures of us?" Nancy giggled a little at her suggestion.

"Yes! Perfect. Get him over here. Operation Save Dingus from his Self Sacrifice is a go!" Robin jumped up on the couch to make her point and Nancy immediately had to come to her aid as she wobbled enough to lose her balance.

Robin was excited. She was ready for the next step with Nancy and if it helped Steve get out of his own head and/or convinced a certain metalhead with very few remaining braincells to get his head out of his ass then so be it. Robin couldn't wait to think of all the sappy shit Nancy would pretend to be annoyed at she'd be able to do now. Steve would be back in a few weeks so Robin anxiously awaited Jon's response and started several caption ideas in her notes app.

These two have been eating at my brain all night it’s chronic.

Every fandom I'm in has that one straight-passing ship that I make my personality for a couple weeks lol. This is that straight-passing ship for Rayman lol.

A buncha ideas and progress below cut:

Teensy Ray Thoughts:

Teensy Ray (who's name is probably Raymond I haven't decided yet) is the kind and soft-spoken leader of the Rayman Fan-Club. He is the go-to person for all things Rayman, and has basically turned his house into a makeshift shrine museum for the guy.

He DIYed his entire cosplay of Rayman. He cut up his cloak and altered it to look more like a "hoodie", even wrapping his arms with bandages to represent Rayman's "limbless-ness." The thing he struggled with most was the hair.

Speaking of the hair, the "implant" that Polokus talks about in Origins was actually a little bird creature he found one day. Its tail feathers stick up like Rayman's two hair strands and can whirl around in a haircopter style.

The creature is also a kind-of wing man for TR. It can read how he feels and will move its tail accordingly.

The reason why TR started the Rayman Fan-Club and dresses as him a ton was because way back in the day, he was directly saved by Rayman (like Rayman hauled his ass out of danger manually kinda saving). He feels like the club is the least he could do to repay his hero

Also he and Ray are pen-pals lol (but Rayman takes decades to respond)

Teensy Ray is a hopeless romantic. Any sort of romantic gesture, no matter how small, sweeps him off his feet.

He was originally Teensy Queen's "safe date." He was down for it, both because she was incredibly pretty and because she let him go on super long rambles about Rayman.

When she eventually fell for him, he fell for her almost instantly, and things have been going smoothly ever since lol.

Teensy Queen Thoughts:

Queen Teensy (honestly might name her Quincy lol) is the bad bitch teensy of the Glade. She has the heart of an adventurer, constantly running away from the boring royal duties to practice her magic and fighting skills.

She will run off, kick ass by halting a nightmare invasion of some rural town, then return just in time for her royal duties.

She loves fighting almost as much as she loves Rayman lol.

Queen had a mega crush on Rayman and was desperate to get with him. However, Rayman (the aroace king he is) took no interest in her whatsoever.

She decided to settle for TR as a sort of "substitute" for Rayman at first. She was constantly heckled by her family for never giving any man a chance, so she retaliated by grabbing the teensy who looked the most like Rayman and basically fake-dating him.

After a couple months or so of just being safe-date buddies, she started to gain actual feelings for TR, to which he reciprocated. She was in a lot of denial about it though for a while.

She be like "I don't date dorks!" then ends up with this mf.

Teensy Queen is Grand Romantic Gestures in teensy form. She will go out of her way to create large displays for the people she loves and cares about.

The "EXCUSE ME, HE ASKED FOR NO PICKLES." kinda person.

That's all I have rn. Expect more art of these guys cuz they're gonna be so everything to me for like two months lol.

Hey, quick question if you don't mind me asking, what were your thoughts on Chalice of the Gods?

overall, i wish rick stopped at toa like he said he was going to. the more rick adds, the more the world-building suffers as a result. that being said, i didn't completely hate cotg like i thought i would. there's a few good moments, but, in general, it reads like a cash-grab.

let's start with the good. percy has some of the most in-character moments he's had in the universe since pjo.

percy's confrontation w geras was so good that i actually wish this was part of percy's character arc in hoo. percy spent almost all of pjo knowing he was going to die—he saw the fates cut the string in tlt and in som he put together what the prophecy meant: he was going to die either at or before 16. and this is exactly why this confrontation works and why i think it's better than new rome. new rome can protect a demigod from monsters, not from fate. percy wasn't scared of monsters. if he was, he would've stayed at chb year-round.

and i really like that geras was willing to entertain percy bc he had turned down godhood. like the first time percy ever thinks abt immortality seriously (in botl) this is what he has to say:

so immortality is fundamentally at odds w percy's character bc he defines himself so thoroughly w the ppl he loves. and this is exactly what allows him to get through to geras! it's such a good exploration of percy's character and the future he's now able to consider.

similarly, this section

is more in-character than almost all of hoo. this is a prime example of how percy's loyalty works and addresses how it's misconstrued in fandom. percy has a desire for freedom, and that desire informs how he respects ppl. percy's loyalty isn't a possessive "i won't let you do this" bc he will, he will always let someone make their own choice at the end of the day bc it's what he would want. and this was actually established in tlt, when sally says "you're enough like me to understand" and asks percy to let her save herself. so percy lets bianca fight talus, he lets nico walk away, he gives luke the knife, he lets ganymede choose his own story, even when he disagrees w it. and this is why percy's arc in hoo sucked! rick tried to give percy the typical hero complex, but it's contradictory w percy's character. so when i saw this passage i was so relieved. i thought this part of percy died w pjo.

also, to talk abt someone other than percy, this moment

is good. i love this abt annabeth.

and grover saying the hardest thing is sitting by and not being able to do anything. bc grover is usually in a support role and he wasn't there at all in hoo. i also like that percy is confronted w the fact that he's not expendable. thumbs up from me.

the bad...i'm just going to keep short bullet points.

what even is this plot

it doesn't work as part of pjo and yet it's marketed as the sixth book in the series

why is zeus a disney villain. i hate everything abt it

the inconsistencies...annabeth's cap...why are we continuing to treat percy like he's disinterested in learning??? also. what do you mean you're not allowed at camp after you turn 18? WHAT DO YOU MEAN????? this was not a thing. and wasn't rhea in hiding or something?? now she's casually having brunch?

there's too much "percy is the stupid bf and annabeth is the competent gf who takes care of him." i hated every second of this. also annabeth is disabled. her being intelligent does not remove her disability. she struggles.

i rbed that post abt disaster cook annabeth and good cook percy and i stand by that.

the power monologue makes no damn sense (and another addition by op in the tags)

no seriously i'm begging someone to have a real conversation and understand percy is terrified of how powerful he is. i've been waiting for this since botl. WHICH WAS PUBLISHED IN 2008 BTW

i'm not a huge estelle or paul fan. like they're fine they're just not compelling.

the only time i feel sally and percy have the same connection as they had in tlt is when they're alone. this is a problem i've had for a while, but cotg does not fix it. when paul and annabeth are in the equation, it feels like percy is the outsider.

in summary, cotg is like a fanfic i would leave kudos for being a good percy character study despite having questionable moments. except it's canon. and these questionable things affect the world-building.

Can you share some of your favorite bat facts? I wanna add more to my lil arsenal of cool random facts. :]

Of course! Apologies for the late response, I saw this at like 1am four days ago, forgot everything I knew about bats, and then fell asleep and only remembered I even got this ask today. Anyways! Some bat facts :)

Common Vampire bats are some of my absolute favourites, mostly because of their ability to run on the ground! They can gallop with their forelimbs and take off from the ground by leaping into the air and catapulting themselves with their wings, which is speculated to be how Pterodactyls took off as well! Most bats cannot take off from the ground, and must be elevated to take flight, so this is pretty cool. Makes sense too, since they mostly feed from the ankles of large mammals and so need ground maneuverability!

Here's a video of a vamp taking off, and here's a video of one walking around! I think their skittery movements and lil' faces are just the CUTEST, but I know I'm probably in the minority there. Also there's a large dish of blood in the second video, so fair warning there!

All three true Vampire bats have evolved special grooves in their mouths in order to act as a gutter of sorts to funnel the blood into their mouths, but the exact arrangement differs between them. The Hairy-Legged Vampire bat has a groove along the roof of the mouth, whereas the White-Winged and Common Vampire bats have lingual grooves under the tounge! Speaking of White-Winged Vampire bats, they're the only bats in the world with 22 teeth, for some reason (likely no reason since the molars are vestigial), AND they have scent glands in their mouths that might be used to deter predators. Pretty cool stuff!

Finally, all three species of true Vampire Bats are cute as hell. Look at these lil' guys!!

I love them so much #they aren't scary at all! being a hematophage doesn't automatically make a creature scary or bad in any way #No worse than being a carnivore. the blood to blood contact makes them vectors for disease but that's not their fault #besides so would being carnivorous if they didn't have to kill their prey most of the time lol #I love and appreciate these beasts. WHAT'S CAMPUS APOCALYPSE....

I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED Campus Apocalypse (also known as Gakuen Datenroku) is an Evangelion spinoff manga!!! It has 4 volumes and 22 chapters, and it's basically an AU series with an action-y shonen feel to it.

It retains a lot of the cast and some elements from the anime, but for the most part does its own thing with the lore! Instead of piloting giant robots, the kids fight angels using these magic-y weapons (Shinji has a gun, for example), and the angels themselves are very different from the main series too. It can be odd at times, but it's a pretty fun and interesting take on the series imo!

The plot gets a little wild at times and the ending is sadly pretty rushed (I think it got cancelled?), but it's a fairly quick read and has enough neat concepts along the way that I feel it's worth checking out! :] (i am of course biased, but y'know)

What Personally makes me so fond of it is that it has more of the main 4 kids as friends, as well as features Kaworu as one of the main characters and introduces him right at the beginning! He gets to interact more with Rei and Asuka, as well as has more time with Shinji, and I really really love how his and Shinji's relationship is developed.

It's not as explicitly Romantic as in the anime (CA mostly focuses more on the friendships; there's some ship tease and it occasionally leans towards Shinji/Rei, but the romantic stuff is vague enough that you can see what you wanna see for the most part imo), but it's still very sweet and meaningful all the same. The development of their friendship is a significant part of the story, and it's not that hard to view it in a romantic light. It's like. Friends to lovers kawoshin. To me

IN SHORT: Campus Apocalypse has a different vibe from the anime and has some interesting stuff, but it may be just kind of average as a whole. BUT it does some specific things really well imo and said things are like catnip to me. If you too enjoy seeing the main four interacting and being friends and Shinji and Kaworu's relationship being able to take more time to develop, it may be worth checking out!

ack the stuff you said about dsmp and its ending and stuff—i feel that. its like this painful nostalgia of what the thing used to be and the fact that it’ll never happen again… i get nostalgic over the lmanburg anthem lmao. im still having a hard time getting over it ahaha.

i honestly hate the ending but i suppose it had to end sometime. Season 2 getting canceled… like you said, there is some comfort in that, but at the same time its so sad to think that it’s finally, officially over. two years of watching funny block men play the funny block game. it was so fun.

is feeling this way over a silly minecraft server overreacting? maybe. but nonetheless theres still that sadness. i just pretend theres a real ending where the nuke doesnt blow everyone up and these amazing characters ive grown to love just live on in their happy little lives.

anyway just wanted to say this after seeing your recent post. in all honesty, i miss dsmp. but seeing that someone i look up to feels the same way i do makes it a little bit easier to bear, i think. so thank you./gen

Hello anon!!! I'm glad I was able to make you feel comforted and better with just a silly Tumblr post (which also was a bit of a rant haha)

Yeah, it's a painful kind of nostalgia. Which is a bit bitter (due to the nature of how ...the dsmp sorta had a very, rather than ending with a big bang, it was more sorta drawn out thin and had a more than unsatisfying ending. its okay,I think as a fandom we are all making our own au endings to replace that one haha)

And despite all the hardship around this dumb lil server, I don't think I regret getting into it. And I still teasure the story and characters so dearly.

I think you're aloud to have such strong feelings over a silly lil thing, cos I think we're past the point of thinking it is dumb to be so invested in a Minecraft server. It was so fucking cool, and not just the server, the fancontent. I would argue that was the thing that made it so loved and engaging to be a part of. The fan content was unmatched and filled with talent.

People who think it's dumb to have a generally fun time within a fandom and to mourn that when it ends, are boring. Yeah it was a Minecraft rp, but it was also the some of the funnest times I've ever had within a fandom.

The dsmp may have ended but the creativity that made it so great is still here, with the fan content and cc, who will go onto new things and continue to make great things and improve.

And besides the story and characters are still there. It's like putting one of your favourite book on a shelf. You can always revisit the story, maybe take something different from it after time.

And I'm sure there will still be fancontent created from the characters, I know I still plan on drawing and writing stuff.

I can't let go of these characters just yet haha.

It's just now there's room for more things, I don't think anything will replace what the dsmp was,I don't want that.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm excited to see what comes next!!! And I'm thankful for the experience of what the dsmp was.

I was reading more buddies fic(and rereading some bookmarked fic) and I just

It delights me to NO END that most of the fandom looks at Eddie and goes "ah yes this man who compared his doomed relationship with his separated wife to chocolate would come up with heartstoppingly beautiful love confessions that leave buck and the audience crying"

And that most of those also agree that buck first reaction would be "fuck you how am I supposed to top that confession asshole"

haha I do love that in fanfiction, not gonna lie!

but I also don't think it is unfounded? because the thing is, yes, true we do have that conversation with Shannon that was a little (lot) clumsy for sure, but I think it was partially because Eddie was actually trying VERY HARD to get it right, because they had failed in the past and this big romantic speech is how it's supposed to work, right? and he is stumbling hard with that because he is nervouse and not confident in what he is trying to say, but desperately wants to be (which, very valid I would be too xD)

BUT on the other hand we do also have canon material of Eddie saying the most stunningly beautiful lines when they come from nothing but feeling and he isn't trying hard for something specific (or to make something work that he already feels he has failed at and makes him overcompensate) and when he feels confident about what he is saying, because we have "But I love him enough to never stop trying, and I know you do too. Buck, there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you." and "Because Evan, you came in here the other day and you said it would have been better if it had been you who was shot. You act like you're expendable, but you're wrong." (and other smaller instances, but for obvious reasons these two are my main evidence <3)

which, in my honest opinion, already both absolutely are declarations of love to an extent and therefore absolutely make me belief that Eddie can and will absolutely ruin us with a love confession that is said without fear or doubt and comes from his heart, ya know? he is, in canon, actually very careful with his words when it comes to Buck and saying things he really needs Buck to hear, so I do think those scenes actually have a good basis in canon and that actually makes me personally love them even more!!! <3 (Buck's indignant replies in fic always make me smile, but then again we do have Buck being a little bowled over both times in canon by the sheer force of sincerity and love that is Eddie Diaz <3 which in a more settled and secure Buck could, I think, absolutely cause exactly that reaction xD)

(all this to say that I do also enjoy a good Eddie-stumbles-over-his-words-because-he-is-so-stupid-in-love-with-Buck confession in fic, but that is not what I expect to happen in canon <3)

Ik this is random and is gonna sound crazy but i had this theory that both sigma and atsushi were created by the book since both. Have black n white hair,some sort of white color scheme(albinism?) And seem to be both REALLY socially akward as if they DIDNT spend enough time around humans(in sigmas case ofc but atsushi? He grew up SUROUNDED by other kids,and ofc he was an outcast and he was probs afraid of punishment so ofc that could be an explanation) both are REALLY similar

They aaaare, and it's not crazy (have you seen canon?)!! I've seen stuff about Atsushi and Sigma parallels and it FASCINATES me how similar they are (I read the Sky Casino arc and MAN was that intense).

And while I don't know enough to disagree or agree with your theory OP, canon HAS already stated through Fitzgerald that Atsushi has a connection to the book. And considering how Sigma was created from the book and how you and the fandom in general see to see Sigma and Atsushi as incredibly similar....well, there's definitely SOMETHING going on in there.

(Also, there's another post I know that also pointed out how Q was similar to Sigma design-wise, which I was reminded of with your ask....I don't know if there's a point to that but...)

I do think so far, though, that Atsushi is human. He's mentioned to have parents and his childhood seems to be pretty well established. Of course this is a seinen action manga and they always seem to have the most convoluted plotlines. Like just watch as they pull out a plot twist that Atsu and all his backstory WAS created by the book and that the beginning of the manga is the beginning of his true birth...please don't take that seriously...

Anyway, I went on an unrelated tangent again (as usual) but thank you for the ask, OP!! I don't think about Sigma/Atsu parallels enough and your theory definitely isn't crazy...but we shall have to see.

Sorting through some stuff and came across this one again. It’s going to be six years in July but I guess it never really stops hurting.

#longer even if you count the years where we were already strangers to her #she recognised me the longest because i practically spent my entire childhood with her #my mother always found excuses to dip out #but my grandmother was always there #she just had this presence #and it's even more palpable in her absence #because there's just this huge void for all of us where she used to be #and like. i was recently asked at work by someone who was a complete stranger to me if i was related to her #and it was just so nice to have a stranger remember her so fondly #she was kind and did her best to care about everyone even though life did its best to beat her down #and sometimes i wish i could just sit down with her in front of the tv again #hold her hands and tell her about my life and accomplishments #and how all the dreams she supported me in and wanted to come true for me #are now fulfilled #and thank her for always believing in me #for listening #for tolerating and encouraging all my rambles about birds #anyway.#i love you grandma #and now i should probably get back to the boxes #personal

whoaaa this answer is super long so i will put it under a cut! tysm for the ask anon, it's cute <3

straud legacy has been around since early 2019! that's crazy!! but it was originally a silly little gameplay legacy, which sadly i deleted from this blog :( i wish i didn't do that ahaha. but you can read the beginning of the legacy on this blog! so luckily nothing was lost, i just miss everything being on one blog aha.

as for the brie and vlad backstory which i haven't posted yet but i have talked about at length, that's been in the works for about a year now! i'm still working on the final pages, but i'm hoping to be done writing it within a few months, and then i can edit it and finally begin posting it this year. once that story's ready to showcase, i'll likely put straud legacy on hold, as the backstory is really important to me so i want my full attention on it when the time comes!! but for now, i will make do with my silly little strauds. :D

i'm most proud of this scene! i just really loved experimenting with the lighting to make the house seem cold, and the movement between wolfgang and his mom, and especially the flipped over picture frame. i learned how to make posing accessories from build/buy objects for this scene, so it appears as though wolfgang is holding the picture frame of his family. i think the effect turned out so nice!! and the small detail of wolfgang's youtube history, mainly of right wing pundents spewing nonsense, contrasted with him searching "makeup tutorial for hooded eyes" which a few people actually caught - it all came together so much better than i thought it would!! i just really loved making that post a lot, i hope to do more like it soon.

and lastly, storytelling has helped me learn a lot of things in blender! mainly posing sims, but i have learned how to make posing accessories for storytelling purposes too! i hope to learn how to make animations at some point, so i can record snippets of my sims for my story. but that's for the future, for now i am very content with what i do know :')

he is very important to me yes!! i see him as my irl husband, and unfortunately i haven't been super into genshin lately so i haven't rly had him in the front of my brain, but he's still just. the love of my life. he's always in the back of my mind, yk?

not only do i feel this way in this current life, but as a fictionkin individual i've known him before. i never stopped loving him- and it's kinda unfortunate that he and i are considered a rare pair by fandom standards. but hey, i don't even think zhongli and albedo have canonically met on screen lol.

but whenever i feel bad abt myself (for whatever reason, sometimes nothing happens at all and i just feel icky) i can kinda tell myself, like. hey. he's literally a thousands-of-years-old god. he's definitely seen worse than one of my Moments. he'd probably know exactly what to say, too.

i also know he's seen change with his own eyes, that he knows nothing is truly eternal. he's a really wise person. so he's definitely not gonna hold my past against me. like, i can't go back and change anything HOWEVER i am recently doing better than i think i've ever been! and i think he would see that and know that i'm trying to be better.

most of all i just really miss him. i know i bat my eyelashes at kpop idols and i ship with other characters and stuff, but i'd give almost anything to be with him again.
