possibly my favourite thing about the rotpl finale is getting confirmation that lydia already knew she was gay. cynthia was going through such a time, and we finally know that lydia was actively protecting herself and in control of the whole situation. the rehearsal kisses? she instigated that with the knowledge that it wasn’t two straight girls, because she clocked cynthia from the get-go and still offered to kiss her for the play, because it was no commitment. she couldn’t be abandoned because the play already had a strict deadline. when cynthia ran away after the pre-play kiss, and avoided her at the dance, she knew she’d gone too far, and that she’d have to pull away and not talk to cynthia so that she could maintain the boundaries that would protect her from heartbreak again. the whole situation gains a whole extra layer because while cynthia might not have had the words to express who she was, lydia did, and the words were deviant and invert and sick, so of course the poor girl, this seventeen (maybe sixteen?) year old girl knew that the world wasn’t safe for her. despite all this, cynthia pulled it back. everywhere lydia hid behind behind femininity and long hair and theatricality, cynthia stuck out like a sore thumb, short haired and feisty and so butch without even knowing what it was, that overtness represented that hope, that the bit of lydia that was hiding could be a little freer. the glances that we see when the teacher suggests more rehearsals can turn into the active looking for each other that we see in the finale because that’s where the balance is, and it shows lydia that cynthia will never deny her. she will see her in public, around her friends, and will say she loves her to nancy, and that is what lydia needs. she spends so much time acting as these characters that she is virtually never herself, and in the hall of mirrors, surrounded by her own reflection, she gets to see that being who she is, a young lesbian in love, might be worth it. that the girl in the mirror, kissing cynthia, can exist and be happy.

thinking about how argyle tells mike "surf's up, romeo" when he and el are trying to talk at surfer boy pizza and then there's also the stove behind mike during his monologue that has the name "montague" (romeo's last name) on it.

at first glance most people probably assume this detail is pro-milkvan because mike and el are being compared to romeo and juliet, a pair of star-crossed lovers who fell in love with each other at first sight. this is what romeo and juliet's relationship appears to be on the surface, but the whole play is actually making fun of teenagers who claim they're in love when they don't really know each other. (almost like how milkvans and general audiences tend to perceive the show versus fans that actually try to read into the deeper meanings).

something something "i've loved you since that moment i saw you in the woods" paralleling romeo when he first sees juliet and thinks he's in love with her. (this combined with mike actually not falling in love with el at first sight as he claimed during his monologue because in s1 he wants to send her back to a mental hospital so they can go back to finding will. and if we compare this to romeo thinking he's in love with a different girl and crying over her moments before he sees juliet and then decides he's actually in love with her instead, well, it doesn't take much to put two and two together)

anyway i just find it really interesting that mike is referred to as romeo both textually and visually moments before and during his i love you monologue to el. definitely coincidental of the writers and set designers and this surely doesn't mean anything

gonna do my own adaptation of Romeo and Juliet that's entirely the same except the poison scene goes on for a bit longer. Juliet drinks the poison that makes her go to sleep but Romeo drinks poison that supposedly kills him but it's actually a mislabeled vial of the first poison so Juliet wakes up and drinks some of that poison and then Romeo wakes up and is like "oh shit this poison doesn't work, here Juliet has some poison!" and he drinks that which is of course the go to sleep poison and then Juliet wakes up again and is like "What the fuck" and then Benvolio comes in and is like "My boy Romeo is poisoned! I'll join you bro." and now he's asleep, and then Juliet is like "I need some wine to process this" - Drinks out of the poisoned cup Romeo poured sleeping in and then Romeo wakes up again and is like "JULIET AND BENVOLIO?!" and he's so pissed but also confused and is like mentally 'well if drinking this poison twice brought my friends here i guess i'll drink it again and see what happens' and then Juliet wakes up again and she's like "Okay hold on. Let's see how this plays out" but she can't because then Fortinbras shows up and is like "I'm invading Verona! Fuck you!!!" but then Juliet splashes some sleeping poison in his face and he's out now and then Romeo wakes up and Benvolio dies because he was allergic to sleep poison and also the lion from Pyramus and Thisbe comes and kills them both The End

Some random BSD headcanons because my old post about this is old

•Gin is really good with animals and young kids

•Atsushi is like a magnet for cats. He’ll walk outside and 80% of the time have at least one cat come up to him

•Ranpo has autism (tbh at this point so many people headcanon this that it could be considered fanon. Also this totally isn’t me projecting shhh)

•Yosano is good with kids

•When Dazai joined the agency, he bribed Ranpo into not revealing his backstory by buying him whatever snacks he wanted whenever he wanted

•Chuuya’s least favorite dog breed is the chihuahua solely because Dazai sometimes compared/compares him to one

•Poe was a theatre kid in high school but worked stage crew due to stage fright

•Dazai was super big into MCR when he was younger and still listens a fair bit now

•Dazai can’t care for plants. They will die in his care (me projecting because I killed a cactus by underwatering it)

So—a whole bunch of stuff has gone down recently in the community, I’m sure you all have seen the posts. I will not be getting into the specifics here, as they speak for themselves.

What I do want to discuss, however, is the importance of consent. This can apply to sexual situations, but general ones as well. In essence, it is in best practice to ask a person how they feel about you doing something before taking action.

For example, Person A: “What are your personal boundaries when it comes to discussing nsfw topics?” Person B: “I’m cool with talking about pretty much any scenario involving cartoon characters! Live-action media is a hard ‘No’. Also, I would appreciate it if you asked about my comfort level each time, ‘cause it changes for me day by day.” Person A: Thank you for sharing, I will keep that in mind!

I recognize not everyone has had the opportunity to exercise this skill as much as they ought to; despite that, this only makes the repetition all the more crucial. I, myself, am in the process of unlearning my tendency to act on impulse and learning how to ask for permission instead.

The more you practice consent, the more natural it will come to you. Do not be afraid of coming off awkward!!! It is better to feel awkward while asking than to cause distress over assuming boundaries.

Being able to honor one another’s boundaries is an expression of love. It is how you build trust within a relationship! We ought to be mindful of how we treat others and ensure we are treating others well.

Oh I’m so glad you’re back! Colors have different meanings in Mandalorian culture and every Mandalorian decorates their armor differently incorporating whatever color means most to them. So my question for anyone but especially Artemis, Holly, and Juliet, what would your Mandalorian armor colors be?

Juliet: I feel like all the Butlers have to default to blue for "reliability", or maybe green for "duty."

Butler: Green has always been your color.

Root: Green is the LEP's color. Always has been, always will be.

Foaly: I'll take orange, then. "A lust for life." Though if I were in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn't be a Jedi or a Mandalorian.

Juliet: What would you be?

Foaly: Rich.

Mulch: Same here! I'll use orange, too. The prison jumpsuits have kinda grown on me.

Holly: I'll take black, for justice. Though I'm not sure what a "Manderloria" is.

Artemis: It's a Star Wars-- thing. The twins are really into the series. Perhaps I'll do red for the loss of a parent, or white for a "new start."

Holly: Not gold?

Artemis: Perhaps one day.

Root: Fine, I suppose? No more injuries than normal, and fairies don't scar--
