April 1: Smile
Day 1 of April Hinny microfics! @hinnymicrofic
He’s happier this year.
Of course, the bar for such a thing isn’t terribly difficult to clear, given how bloody miserable Harry had been the year before, but still. He is. Happier.
She’d mentioned it to Dean once, in passing, and regretted it immediately. He’d asked her probing questions like what do you mean and why do you mention it and she couldn’t give him proper answers, especially when the question he really wanted the answer to was why did you notice.
“Forget it,” she had snapped, only he didn’t and neither did she.
He jokes more easily, in the Common Room, at meals, during Quidditch practice. With her. They’d always found the same things funny; she’d clung to that when she was stupid and eleven.
Now that she’s stupid and fifteen, it clings to her instead. Her eyes seek him out whenever Ron says something ridiculous, when Hermione recommends different colored ink to color-code her notes, when Cormac McLaggen swaggers by. They share a look that asks did you see that and how could I not and she soon realizes that the world is twice as funny with a private audience of two.
“--you should really finish that essay, Harry, you’re already behind from the hospital wing and–”
“Should I?” Harry says mildly, barely looking up from clipping the twigs off his broomstick. “Snape is in mourning, he won’t have the time to grade essays.”
Hermione gives him an unimpressed sort of look. “In mourning?”
“Yep,” Harry says with a snip of his scissors. “He paid off McLaggen to murder me, he’ll be sulking that I only cracked my skull.”
Ginny snorts into her tea, and Harry meets her eye with a smirk that sends her stomach into an inappropriate freefall.
Zacharias Smith pays an unwelcome visit to the Gryffindor table at dinner to gloat about Gryffindor’s defeat. Harry clenches his jaw, and Ginny pretends that isn’t the reason that she shouts, “Oi, Smith. Perhaps we can plant McLaggen on the pitch for all of your matches, because maiming the other team is the only way you’ll catch the snitch on your own.”
Smith retorts something stupid, and Ginny rolls her eyes and says, “Go gloat at your own table before I hex you.”
Harry meets her eye and they exchange that little smile, what a git and that was good and his jaw isn’t clenched anymore.
“What a git,” Dean says, and Ginny nods, feeling inexplicably irritated by the comment. She’d already said that, except she hadn’t. Not out loud, and not to him.
Harry catches her eye again across the table, and the corners of his lips twitch, and so do hers.
It’s the first time she feels a sharp stab of guilt. Because she’s stupid and fifteen and he’s happier this year and she knows what he’s thinking without words.
And when something makes her laugh she doesn’t look for Dean. She looks for a flash of green and a private little smile that says it’s only funny when you think so, too.

I enjoyed looking at the snow until it lasted, by the end of the afternoon the trees where almost bare again.
05|12|2023
In the end yesterday evening I ended up finishing my study and exam session plan. I was feeling too nervous about it and so I just sat down with it after taking a small break and tried to figure things out. As last year the exam dates were organized terribly, which makes planning and scheduling things more complicated than it normally would be. I ended up decided to postpone my English lit exam to April. Mostly because of a preparation time thing. December is going to be quite busy for me study wise, and I'd like to also do some external work in my family's store because holiday season is always quite chaotic and I want to help. Researching and writing a paper plust rereading all the books and studying what was said in the lectures would be impossible while studying for other classes. Since in February I will only have one class to attend to I will be able to properly focus on my English lit work and do something I am proud of instead of rushing it now. This means that for the winter exam session I will be trying to take two exams: power practices and men theories (which one of the biggest exams in terms of material and so the grade will be very revalent) and history of the philosophy of the enlightenment (the class I am currently taking and on which I am working quite well because I am half way into the materials). I will have one exam in Jaunary and the other at the beginning of February, though I am not settled on which I will be taking first. I will take a couple of weeks to decide. In the meantime my goal is to read and annotate as much as I can the book for my power practieces class before the holidays. Wish me luck.
calm hobbit winter activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
started reading and annotating the book for my power practices bookand men theories class
Irish practice on duolingo
daily dose of podcasts to make my brain shut up
today's self care:
skipped class since I want to be fully back on my feet before going back to my commute routine and all
took my meds and supplements
payed attention to eat slowly and tonight I'm having soup which is going to fix everything

Throwback Thursday Sunday
Thank you @sallysavestheday for tagging me! Sorry I'm late!
Very soon (April 11th) will be the one year anniversary of The Haunting of Imladris, aka that turned my weird little eldritch!Maglor one-shot into a full series which I have come to adore. And, of course, it also introduced me to Lindir, who remains one of my favourite characters to write. So, to celebrate, here's a snippet:
Lord Elrond’s eyes drifted to the harp in Lindir’s hands. “That instrument…” Something like grief flickered in his eyes.
“My lord?”
“I have seen it before, long ago. After the War of Wrath, I thought it had been destroyed.” He shook his head, as though pushing a memory away. “May I ask where you found it?”
“I once again have Lady Galadriel to thank for it.” Lindir ran his fingers across the strings, sending a few sweet notes into the air. “She gifted it to me in thanks for a…memorably entertaining performance.”
“It must have been quite spectacular,” said Lord Elrond. “It belonged to one of her cousins, you know.”
“Yes.” Though Lindir couldn’t remember which one. Lady Galadriel had so many, and most of them were long dead, and their Sindar names always blended with the Quenya ones in his head. “She said it had been silent long enough and deserved to be played.”
“Lady Galadriel is very wise.” A stern faced elf brought them tea, and Lord Elrond paused to pour both Lindir and himself a cup. “May I ask what it was that you sang about? If your song could win such a gift, I would be curious to hear it myself.”
“Ah, it wasn’t memorable for the song, exactly.” Lindir blushed again, this time in embarrassment. “It wasn’t even my own composition.” Well, he’d have to admit to this failing eventually. Best to say it now instead of later. “I have a terrible memory for history. I can’t help it! There is far too much of it and all of the songs written - especially those from the First Age - are dreadfully boring. In my opinion, respectfully. But an old man came to visit Lothlórien - Gandalf, I think his name was? - and asked if I could sing about one of the famous elven smiths. The most famous smith, according to him, who lived in Valinor before the Two Trees were destroyed.”
“And you did not know the song?”
“I knew most of it,” said Lindir. He could not meet Lord Elrond’s eyes, the memory still a terrible shame. “But I kept getting the smith’s name wrong. For the whole song.” He still didn’t know what it was. Ferinor? Farrimir? Fingolfin?
“I see.” Lord Elrond, thankfully, did not laugh.
“Lady Galadriel still enjoyed it, though.” That had been the most important thing, and the only reason Lindir had not thrown himself into the sea. “She thought it was delightful and said that she hadn’t laughed so hard in ages, and that I deserved a reward for such a wonderful performance.”
Tagging: @dreamingthroughthenoise @chthonion @leucisticpuffin @lordgrimwing and @dovewifes No pressure of course!

Hi, just a super small question since I'm trying to make a playlist based off of this games but do you have any songs you'd recommend that remind you of the characters/plotline/entirety of it as a whole?? Mostly because I'm not the creator of this so I wouldn't know the entire vibe of them, and also because I like making playlist for things I'm hyperfixated on!!
Whoa?? That’s so cool!! Please do share when you make it, I would love to see what kind of songs you have on it!
I think for me, I was mostly focused on writing Eris, since they’re the main driving force of the entire game, so it tends to be a lot of villain based songs for me.
So for instance, loveit?, Dear Maia and especially Love Cat by biz are similar in tone. I think “It’s not my fault” from Milgram suits Eris to a certain degree (especially the air of entitlement) along with any of Harukas songs (All-Knowing and All Agony, as well as Weakness) fit Milo pretty well. I was also listening to a lot of Ferry (the vocaloid artists) song as well but it might just be because I really like Parties are for Losers. This is love by air traffic controllers encapsulates the dynamic of Eris and Milo really well. Also some other just villain songs like Terrible Things by April Smith kind of shows how uncaring Eris really is (at least in my point of view).
Yandere songs like Mx. Sinister, Heartbeat in a Bottle, Meant to be Yours (originally that was my placeholder name for this game), Stalkers Tango, and Yr the best. Yr the best actually fits Pre Milo pretty well, from tone to subject.
Perfect Milo might have more of the Hawaii Part 2 vibes where it’s pretty unsettling.
As for specific characters.. hmm I’d probably have to think about it. If you send me another ask a bit later I’ll try to come up with more of them if need be!

Transformers: Mosaic #474 - "Darkest Spark"
Originally posted on April 12th, 2010
Story - Greg Donaldson Art - Lindsay Smith Letters - Franco Villa Thanks to - Simon Reeves
deviantART | Seibertron | TFW2005 | BotTalk
wada sez: So far as I can tell, this strip was adapted from a short story of Donaldson’s which I reckon preceded it? What the hell, I’ll archive the whole thing below. The year prior, Fun Publications had namedropped a Shattered Glass incarnation of Wheelie in Sky Lynx’s magazine profile; on deviantART, Donaldson said: “Simon and I bounced around the idea but it wasn't until afterwards that somewhat "offical" information came out regarding SG Wheelie and it matched the black and goldenrod coloring we had decided for him!” I have no idea what “official” information he’s referring to, so let me know if you have the source.
"Easy Decepticons. Hold your positions," Galvatron soothed over the communicator.
His laser rifle aimed into the darkness beyond the cargo bay entrance, Scourge had to fight the sensation that was causing his hands to tremble. He looked over at Cyclonus and quickly back, careful not to take his eyes off the blackness for more than an astrosecond. He squinted his optics to focus the available light and he thought he saw movement.
A scream in the distance.
Scourge tensed up immediately and tightened his finger on the trigger. “It’s him,” he whispered under his breath. From the area in front of him a glint of metal streaked toward him. Panicked, he fired his weapon erratically into the darkness. The black was intermittently lit by the muzzle flash and the flying metallic object bounced off his chest and fell to the ground in a wet thump. Liquid splattered on his body and on his chin. He looked down to see the object was square.
Scourge gasped as he realized it was Skywarp's severed head. A terrible death to be sure as his mouth was contorted in agony forever. Scourge fired into the still air, screaming.
Cyclonus followed suit as did Thrust and Dirge who were kneeling in front of them, arm cannons blasting into the distance.
Nothing. They ceased fire. Scanners on full spectrum.
Searchlights revealed 3 Sweeps bodies offlined. Then a vehicle emerged racing toward them. A silhouette as dark as deep space. They opened fire again but the sleek car easily evaded their laser fire and grenades. Missiles sailed past him. It transformed.
SLICE!
Thrust was offlined.
THUNK!
Dirge was down.
CRACK!
Cyclonus looked down to see an energon blade sticking out of his chest. His spark was pierced and he felt the life draining from him. He looked wearily over at Scourge who had slid to the floor leaving a trail of lubricant on the wall. His optics were black. Offlined.
Slowly Cyclonus turned his head and saw crimson optics glaring back at him. He felt chilled. A mech was clinging to his torso, holding on by Cyclonus' winged shoulders, legs around his waist. He was black with goldenrod accenting.
The dark mech looked into him and spoke quietly, "The optics are the window to the spark, Cyclonus. Watching you die this close is a bonus." He grabbed the energon blade and withdrew it from the Decepticon's chest. Thrusting it into the Con's optics, he pushed off the handle of the blade and jumped from the Decepticon while somersaulting in the air.
Cyclonus fell to the ground with a loud clang as the sinister mech landed on top of him.
"Decepticons die so easy, I think Prime sent me here to tease me.”
As he surveyed the carnage he had wrought, he pulled his weapon from the offlined Decepticon and wiped it clean of fluids. Slipping it into its sheath, his wrist communicator blipped. Annoyed at the disruption of the eerie silence he had proudly created, he didn't acknowledge the transmitter as it blared, "Wheelie, where are you?"

Friday meme - tagged by @crankygrrl
Last song: currently listening to myNoise, "Sea Organ" (custom settings should be embedded in the link):
Songwise I've been spinning a lot of 70's Dolly Parton these days, but mostly running podcasts and ambient -- music is not running hot for me right now, but I expect in another few months I'll be curious and hungry for it again.
Favorite Color: I love a good phthalo green, but I adore plum purple:
Tumblr media
Last Movie Watched: First time watching Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. This number was the highlight for me -- from her upside down cross looking earrings to the little black cuffs on their wrestling spankies.
Tumblr media
An interesting cultural piece that's for sure, and I may revisit it wrt mid-20th-century meditations on mercenary heterosexuality. For example, in all the allusions and homages to That Pink Dress & Tuxedos musical number, I'd never clocked the chandelier giving Legend of the Overfiend vibes:
Tumblr media
Currently Watching: 30 Rock, for the quintillionth time, tending my funky little rock garden of headcanons.
[e.g., Floyd DeBarber is the most insidiously terrible guy Liz ever dates -- and the alcoholism is none of it -- I really do worry about Caitlyn's mental health and physical safety, and I'm glad she has the "well fuck you too buddy" example of Liz doing Bible Mad Libs in the midst of her nuptial mass]
[oh he's gonna kill da wabbit alright : / Meanwhile, Liz subverts the genre by sailing through danger like Mr. Magoo]
[the danger in this case being 1. think you're marrying a peer 2. get your dreams sacrificed to resolve the two-body problem 3. sacrifice your body pumping out more student body for St. Prep's or whatever 4. get upgraded when Floyd makes partner]
[least. satisfying. Land of Cleve. montage. ever.]
Sweet, Spicy, or Savory: Savory, yes please.
Relationship Status: is Addams. Best friend, playmate, true co-parent, intellectual equal, and great fun to break a bed with. A few decades ago we met under an ausipicous sign:
Tumblr media
Last thing googled: Mechanical keyboards. My typing is self-taught on a '67 Smith Corona electric and I have never been able to retrain my fingers to strike softer. I miss the satisfying typewriter thunk and tactility of Making Words Manifest.
Current Obsession: Exploring life outside of a survivial mindset.
Curent/Last Read: Blood in the Machine by Brian Merchant; Doppelganger by Naomi Klein; Feeding the Other: White Privilege and Neoliberal Stigma in Food Pantries by Rebecca de Souza; Bloom County by Berkeley Breathed (rereading); Unmasking Autism by Devon Price; The Will to Change by bell hooks; Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle by Emily and Amelia Nagoski (re-reading); Happiness Becomes You by Tina Turner (read in April, considering re-reading); The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow (rereading); doesn't include the ones I'm truly stalled out on or in queue.
Looking Forward To: being able to hang with friends again; cherry season; fireflies; new glasses; my first tattoo; making more art.
Tagging in all who'd like to play!

Thinking about Yoshi doing rat stuff and how his uncles feel about that. Like Yoshi is a rat mutant who got mutated when he was about a month old - this kid has zero memories of being human and looking at photos of himself as a newborn makes him feel weird, because in Yoshi's mind he's a rat, not a human.
At first, whenever he acted more like a rat toddler than a human toddler, I think it really worried his uncles. He couldn't talk yet, so they couldn't ask him why he did that and the parenting books they had were no help.
Taling to April wasn't much good either - June may not be entirely human (Utrom/Kraang genetics inherited from April), but she was more or less a normal kid. April had never had to worry about June climbing up walls with her claws, chewing through metal, and had no answers for all the strange noises Yoshi made. It takes them a while to figure out which bruxing means rat nephew is happy and which means he's distressed.
This is a kid who needs new stuff to investigate or he'll get bored and start destroying something. Before he was old enough to entertain himself, the Turtles spent as much time as they could finding things for him to do. This was properly one reason Raph and Casey taught him how to spray paint, as well as how this version of Splinter gets into smithing. Like if he gets bored he can paint something or make another sword! (Ageswap Yoshi has so many knives, it's ridiculous.)
The Turtles have to be careful about introducing new scents into the Lair cause there's a chance it'll confuse Yoshi and his sense of smell won't be able to make up for his terrible eyesight and he'll got lost on his way to the dojo.
The first time the Turtles saw porphyrin coming out of Yoshi's eyes, they pretty much screamed. They thought Yoshi was bleeding out of his eyes and were all in various stages of mental breakdowns thinking Yoshi was deathly ill and they'd failed to look after their nephew. Finding out that hey, it's okay, that's completely normal for him, its not actually blood, had them all either laying on the floor or going off on their own into a quiet room to stare at the wall for a while.
If Yoshi gets stressed out about something, they have to stop him from scratching himself or trying to chew on his own tail.
This kid has no poker face at all. His ears and whiskers are always giving him away, which is great for them knowing when he's lying, but terrible for being a ninja. This also gets really frustrating for him, because there are times when you don't want everyone to know how you're feeling, but those things give him away. Yoshi can forget about being upset without everyone knowing - he tries to compensate by pulling his hood up on bad days, but that kinda just lets everyone know he's upset and doesn't want to talk about it.
Just the Turtles and their very much a rat mutant nephew, who doesn't feel ashamed of being a rat, so doesn't bother hiding the ratty part of his nature
