In celebration of my first ever multi-chapter fic boundless having been completed, I am dedicating the month of October to fulfilling fic prompts/requests: Promptober!

Just a quick PSA to Criminal Minds fanfic writers about a little pet peeve of mine!

I'm seeing more people dabble in Temily and write more of Tara in their fics, and as the resident expert on all things Tara Lewis (/hj), I cannot stress enough how WONDERFUL that is! She is one of the best characters on the show and has been so neglected and undervalued by both canon and fanon, and it is so, so great that you're giving her a chance to shine! Thank you for that!

HOWEVER:

I have seen quite a few fics in which another character--usually Emily or Penelope--calls Tara "T." Seems cute, I know, and we all love to show intimacy between characters by having them use nicknames for each other. But 12x07 (Mirror Image), which is a fantastic episode and one of the few Tara-centric ones we get, makes a point of really driving home the fact that Tara's brother, Gabriel, is the only one who is ever allowed to call her "T."

Now, I'm not saying you have to stick to canon. Canon is just a jumping off point! If you enjoy having Emily or Penelope or someone else who isn't Gabriel call Tara "T," then go ahead and do that. It's your fic, and you should write what you want, and it's not even going to stop a stickler like me from enjoying your work and appreciating your contribution to the fandom. But I put this out there for anyone who might not know or might have forgotten about Mirror Image, in case you want to write about Tara while keeping canon aspects of her character that suit your story. Because canon honestly didn't give us many details about her character, but not calling her "T" is a pretty big one.

penelope, jj's best friend, is constantly getting ghosted and is sure it's because the guys she's seeing aren't attracted to her. jj's like "actually that's not true, you're gorgeous however you're also a little nuts babe". penelope asserts that jj doing the same things wouldn't drive someone away, and jj's like okay bet.

emily is, to put it bluntly, a fuckboy. her coworker & singular ex who she managed to stay friends with, tara, bets her that she can't stay with the same woman for more than a week. emily is like...care to wager & they agree that if emily wins she gets to move into tara's cutie corner office with all the windows and tara has to move into emily's cramped little office near the copy room.

jj & emily end up at the same bar that night, sparks fly and they both decide that this is who they're spending the next week with. jj's doing absolutely everything she can to make emily regret ever talking to her, emily's suffering big time (jj adopted her a fucking cat???), and tara and penelope are honestly just giggling bc this is the funniest thing they could've possibly done.
