holy names are meant to catch a deity's attention, and while a little bit of attention from a deity is good, too much is... less so.

let's say we have a baby and we name them sun. it's a holy name, so it grabs lord sunflare's attention, just a little bit. baby grows up and becomes a warrior and gets the title flare. this catches lord sunflare's attention even more. sunflare gets pissy that someone's trying to take his name- it's an insult! if he's feeling charitable, he'll only curse/kill our baby mortal sunflare and/or the leader. if he's not, he'll wipe the whole sect out of existence.

new scenario! we have a baby and this time we name them serval. lade birdflight takes notice. "awh, that's neat," they think, "they were named after me!" and they give serval a little gift before moving on. serval grows up and becomes a warrior, earning the title flight and becoming servalflight. this catches lade birdflight's attention again, but this time, they're enthralled. "awh, man, i have a champion!" lade birdflight says. "this is so exciting! i'm gonna give them all kinds of challenges to defeat and overcome, and they'll be a legend!" so lade birdflight does this, but since they're a deity, they have no concept of a mortal's capabilities and end up accidentally getting baby mortal servalflight (and probably multiple others) killed.

scenario three! we have a whole new baby and name them daisy. lady daisytail coos over baby. daisy grows up, becomes a warrior, gets the title feather, becoming daisyfeather. lord feathermask pops up and says "oh neat, they're asking for my blessing!" lady daisytail says "oh hell no, they asked for mine first! this cat is MY follower!" the two deities fight, which causes intense destruction on earth and kills many cats, likely including baby mortal daisyfeather.

giving a cat an important name has less of a risk since they're not tied into a deity in the intimate way a holy name is. there is still some risk though, so it's kind of uncommon to meet a cat with a holy/important (or even important/important) combo.

a holy name is a name (or title) that directly connects to a deity. lord sunflare has two holy names, sun and jaguar, and two holy titles, flare and sun. sun & flare are holy because they're part of his name, and jaguar is holy because he presents himself as a giant jaguar. they're intimately connected with him as a deity.

an important name (or title) may have strong connections with a deity, but it isn't a part of them. sunflare's important names are rooster, sunflower, and buttercup. they're used as his symbols, so they're definitely connected to him, but they're not a part of how he represents himself, they're a part of how the cats on earth represent him.
