hurley and sloane -love language: definitely quality time, especially after the time they spent apart and how hard that was for both of them -ideal date: a one on one battlewagon race and then a picnic at the edge of the cliff -actual first date: one day after a race, hurley asked sloane if she wanted to get drinks somewhere in the city -how did they meet?: battlewagon racing! they were both talented and well known in their own right, but then ended up racing together too -nicknames for each other: sloane calls hurley blossom and hurley calls sloane birdie -favorite thing about their partner: hurley loves sloane's confidence and staying calm under pressure and sloane loves hurley's dedication and passion

Angus pulls up the hood of his cloak and darts through the Neverwinter crowds with practiced ease. As annoying as it is to not be taken seriously a lot of the time, a perk of being a little boy of just eleven is that he's short enough that people don't notice him, and if they do, he's old enough for it to not be weird he's out by himself. All he has to do is smile and tell any concerned pedestrians that his grandfather sent him out for some milk and butter.

He keeps his eyes locked on his target. The dragonborn woman has the same bracer as those guys from the train a while back, and looking at it makes his head spin the same way his active missing persons reports do. He's positive that whatever organization the train guys worked for are behind the missing people. He's found a thousand things pointing to the existence of some secret society in Faerun, he just needs a location.

He's seen a few people since the train that have the strange bracer, but they've all been cagey and refused to answer any questions. So his goal now is to tail this woman until they reach the headquarters of this thing. He doesn't really have a plan for what he'll do when he gets there, but he'll figure it out.

She turns into a nondescript alley, and Angus jogs to catch up. He peers around the corner and frowns. She's gone. She must've gone through a secret entrance before he caught up. He starts investigating the walls for magical and non-magical hidden doors. Then, suddenly, he's lifted into the air.

A half orc woman holds him by the back of his clothes and grins, "is this your little shadow, Carey?"

The dragonborn he'd been tailing, Carey, allegedly, is standing to the side of the half orc. She says, "That's the one, Killian." She looks to Angus, "you've gotta work on your sneakery, kid. I knew you were following me for at least three blocks."

"I-" he struggles a bit, trying to reach his badge, but with how he's being held, he can't quite get to it, "I am-" he huffs, abandoning the badge, "my name is Angus McDonald, I'm a detective working with-"

"Oh, we know who you are," Carey says, smiling menacingly, "you've been quite a thorn in our side."

"Our boss wants to speak with you," Killian says.

"Okay," Angus says nervously. "Where do we have to go?"

The two women exchange an amused look. Killian puts Angus back down on his feet and Carey puts an arm around his shoulder. She guides him back out to the sidewalk, and they walk away from downtown until they reach an empty field. Killian taps on her bracer, and he waits for the ground to open up or something. Instead, an orb descends from the sky and lands in front of them. He looks up and squints, but all he sees are the moons. He looks to Carey and asks, "where did that come from?"

She laughs, arm still around his shoulder, and winks. "You'll see."

She guides him inside, and Killian follows. The door closes, and the orb starts to lift up, and up, and up.

"I hope you're not afraid of heights," Killian jokes.

The ground gets far away, Neverwinter gets smaller as the moons grow. In fact, the smaller moon seems to grow exponentially more than the larger. Then it's so big, it's like it's right in front of them. Then a hatch seems to open on its surface and the orb goes into it. They land in some sort of hangar lined with hatches and orbs. When he stands up to exit, his head spins and he loses his balance for a second.

"Careful," Carey says, grabbing his arm to steady him.

"I'm dizzy," he says.

"I know," Carey guides him carefully out of the orb. "Just give us a minute and we'll take care of that."

He's lead out of the hangar to something that resembles a college campus. Domed buildings are scattered all around, connected by stone pathways, all centered on a grassy quad with an assortment of trees and picnic tables. He's grateful for Carey directing him, because his dizziness gets worse the more he tries to think about this.

This whole thing is... where? He was in an orb, and they landed on the moon. He is on the moon. He is in this campus. And he is on the moon. Both of these things are true, and yet he's hit that same block he's been meeting for weeks. He has two pieces of information that should connect, and he knows how they connect, he just can't process the solution.

"Don't think too hard about it," Killian says, "it only makes it worse."

"With all due respect, ma'am, all I do is think too hard."

Killian snorts. "Got me there."

They lead him to a central dome. Inside, a woman with a white staff stands on a dais, waiting for him. She looks at him with interest and scrutiny, a look he is all too familiar with.

A gnome walks up to him with a tray, on which sits a single vial of a strange, shimmering liquid. He takes it, and looks back up to the woman quizically. "If you want answers, I suggest you drink it," she says.

He takes a deep breath, steeling himself for the worst, and downs it. At first, nothing really happens. He doesn't die, which is good news, and then dots all start connecting. He's on the moon, which is fake, which houses a secret organization with some memory-erasing magic. He remembers the names of the people he's looking for, his memories of dizzying hours in the city's archives becoming crystal clear. He remembers the symbol on the bracers.

"Angus McDonald," the woman on the dais says, spreading her arms, "welcome to the Bureau of Balance."

No one asked but also I haven't posted any writing recently so. Have a recently (and by recently I literally mean like. Yesterday jdksnlflg) written Sunshine snippet :>

Angus pulls out his notebook and flips to a page, turning it around to show the two. “Each of the people had a mark on their wrists,” he explains. “I don't know what the mark means, but clearly it meant something between them.”

Sunshine leans forward a bit to get a better look at the symbol he’s drawn into his notebook. It's a depiction of two black circles that largely overlap, with the overlapping part having no color, but framing a chain coiled around itself.

“At first glance, it just looks like a strange eye,” Angus continues, “but I think it symbolizes something else.”

“What do you think that is?” Carey asks, curious.

He hesitates at the question, looking at the floor. “I, um. I don't know.”

“That's okay, Angus,” Sunshine says, settling back into a natural stance. “It probably was just a way to identify each other.”

“I don't think that's it,” Carey responds, watching Angus. “I think he doesn't want to say.”

His head snaps up. “Huh?”

Carey offers half a smile to him. “Beat your deception check. Sorry, kiddo.”

Angus turns pink. “I don't want to say, Miss. You're right,” he admits. Glancing at Sunshine, he adds, “I think it would upset Miss Sunshine even more.”

“Honestly, Ango, I'm kinda out of emotions right now,” Sunshine replies with a shrug. “Hit me with it.”

ok here's the hot goss from the nycc taz gn panel

i don't actually know whether or not it was recorded/ if they're going to put it online so here is my summary. also if i miss anything and u were there pls feel free to chime in. spoilers obviously!!!

got eight new preview pages (four two-page spreads), not the pages on the macmillan website!!!

ok i will tell u about those pages but the main thing discussed at the panel was how they went about adapting this arc into gn form. the actual time spent in wonderland has been trimmed a lot bc they had to think about what was actually important to the narrative as they are building to story and song.

basically in planning out the suffering game they also really had to decide what the rest of the series would look like, bc whatever they include now is seeding the stuff that's going to happen later.

cam is not in this book. it was implied there's less wheel spins. rowan/ash/sterling get much less screen time

almost half of this book is lunar interlude stuff (pre and post suffering game, INCLUDING REUNION TOUR!!! no word on where it ends but they made it clear that a LOT of thought went into what to include and where to end it, and what that would mean for the next book)

ok so about those preview pages

first one was post-taakitz date with kravitz sensing a lich and the umbra staff shooting at him <3 <3 <3

i thought they were going to show us the preview pages that were on macmillan so when i saw kravitz i was so shook

second spread was magnus visiting the voidfish, which now happens right before they leave for wonderland; the whole beginning of tsg from magnus trying to talk to pringles to him kidnapping those guards to the chimera fight was cut LOL bc it never really got… addressed again in the podcast

angus comes to get him for the mission but magnus has been going Through It (outright stated, they were like. he found out he's a red robe. he would probably not be handling it well. he has eyebags now. LOL) and snaps at angus when angus presses him on what's wrong.

more angus content, he will be investigating what's going on at the bureau more (his scene w magnus ties into this)

same for lucretia! more content/ stuff for her to do

third spread was merle w his kids getting saved by the red robe, is at a carnival instead of a random street this time LOL

last one was the boys arriving just outside of wonderland

wonderland looks fuckign cool

what else… oh confirmed like eighty panels of bare ass naked magnus after he gets his body back. so i think we really are getting the full reunion tour this book???

ALSO NAKED BARRY COVERED IN SLIME. WHEN HE GETS OUT OF THE POD. CONFIRMED. CANON. LOL

omg ALSO!!! ben (editor) said he campaigned REALLY HARD to have the umbra staff break during the suffering game, freeing lup early, bc he really wanted more time with her, but griffin campaigned really hard NOT to do this, and in doing so his arguments solved a lot of other problems they had been having at the time LOL

travis is the fans' champion when the others get too edit-happy. he's the one who has a good idea of what moments are important to the readers so he's like hey… too far. don't cut that. and then they don't

justin leaves great notes and when they couldn't figure stuff out ben would often say "no it's fine justin will solve this." and he ALWAYS DID

this was news to justin

??? i think that's all the main points honestly i'm v picky about adaptations but overall i feel like these are good changes that make sense when translating the podcast to gn

that said i do hope taako still gets a washing machine dropped on him <3 do this for me carey <3
