Memorial Day Weekend Thoughts (Sunday, May 29th, 2022)

Let's take this weekend and use it for what it was meant to be used for, and that is to honor and memorialize those who sacrificed their lives for what they believed in. They believed in freedom for all and we should be thankful for that.

This last weekend, while volunteering for a cause near and dear to my heart (Angelride), I saw my life flash before my eyes. A lot of people in this world try and challenge the rules, whether it be from their parents or those established by the government. We need to remember that rules are in place for a reason, whether we understand that reason or not, they need to be followed. If you do not agree with the rules, you have the right to petition the government and make a change but you cannot just choose to disobey the rules. They allow for peace and quality of life for all of us.

A very impatient driver decided they wanted to pass a support vehicle and cyclists, that were riding for children burn survivors and a camp that supports their well-being and strength/recovery in their already difficult lives. While completely disregarding the rules, passing against a double yellow no passing line and causing a chain reaction of vehicles abruptly to brake to avoid a head on collision, I saw my life flash in front of my eyes.

A dump truck turned over and started skidding right into my direction while I was helping a struggling cyclist get through the 62 mile bike ride. In a split second, I had to make a decision and thankfully I trusted my instincts. I unclipped from my bicycle, jumped over a guardrail to avoid becoming a sandwich between the truck and the guardrail and survived to type this up. I thank GOD for being by my side, along with my mother Donna and brother Kevin.

This single experince taught me two things; I will never take my life for granted, because it can be taken from me in a second. I will never take my time for granted and only spend it with people and events that will better me. In an instant, it can all be over. Make sure you do whats right for you and help better everything and everyone else you come into contact with.

Today we celebrate love, and as many know, love has many forms: romantic love, familial love, love of your friends, love of your coworkers,

love of your pets, love of nature, love of food,

love of a certain craft or art, the list of love in it’s many forms goes on, for there are also many things in life that are loved, including life itself, for when we truly stop and think about it, life and being alive are so very amazing. Just to think of how you are a living being in this very moment, thinking of how amazing it is to be alive, it’s beautiful and wondrous, and I’m thankful to God my creator for it. That also reminds me not to take people, things, or whatever else for granted, to savor life, including and sometimes especially while it’s happening.

On Valentine’s Day, of the many forms of love there are, romantic love is emphasized, it’s made a bigger deal of on this holiday, highlighted. Now there’s something important I need to tell you right now that you may have heard before, likely even today,

I ask that you close your eyes, take a deep breath, and repeat this message: it is perfectly okay to be single. Go ahead and try that a couple more times. Why is it okay to be single?, including on Valentine’s Day of all days?, thee Holiday that puts out so much commercialization of flowers and chocolates and romantic gestures for a significant other?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it: flowers and chocolates are great, but you can give both of those things anytime of the year, and there’s better or even simpler ways to show your affection, you don’t even have to spend a cent you could just do something like ask someone a small favor you could do for them like sweeping up or talk to someone and have a sweet or even deep conversation, because the little things can and do matter a lot. It’s okay to be single even on Valentine’s Day because you don’t have to, or need to have someone else, there is beauty and peace in being by yourself among other good things about being single, there’s self love!! which you should also have while you’re in a relationship, but you can have it by yourself, and as I’ve seen a friend of mine say today: no one is truly alone, there are people that care for and love you so much. I’ve seen that my post has gotten a little long so I’ll wrap it up with this:

Love is beautiful, love is beautiful in it’s many forms, life is beautiful even though it may have it’s not so beautiful moments that can help us to be thankful for the beautiful moments and strengthen us.

Remember not to take people, things, or whatever else for granted, for some people don’t realize what they have until it’s gone.

It’s perfectly okay to be single, for there is beauty and peace among other good things about being single including self love.

God is love, our Great, Beautiful, Amazing, Merciful, Kind, Loving Creator is Love, and he loves you, so very much, please don’t ever forget that. Happy Valentine’s Day, take care, and I hope that God Blesses you greatly always.
