FUN FACT NUMBER #1
Autistic people are better are learning and remembering things because we have more brain cells then neurotypicals.
To elaborate: Autistic people go through less synapses pruning compared to the average neurotypical brain. Autistic people lose 16-19% of their synapses instead of the usual amount (that being what the typical brain experiences) this means that our brain absorbs information like that of a child leading to knowing a bunch of random facts much like this one.
Although, if there are any stressers on the brain that can cause forgetfulness then obviously this information wouldn't be accurate for the stressed mind.
Remember, don't always believe what you see on the internet, do double check this :)

Here is what I am learning: Sometimes, one finds oneself in the unenviable position of being, say, in one's 30's, looking back at work you did when you were 19, or at work from current talented 19 year olds, and thinking "wow, why is this better than the stuff I've been struggling to do during a long dry spell?" There is nothing particularly unique about being a young adult (except maybe energy/time) that makes a person good at doing stuff they're working hard at. At 19 many people, probably including yourself, were in college, amongst peers, being exposed to new things, making cross-disciplinary connections, thinking critically, practicing with the intent of improving, actively using your brain and building synapses, and ideally being encouraged to do so while in a stable environment. The missing ingredient is not Youth or Talent-- it's regular brain exercise and not trying to be creative in a vacuum. Your brain can start working out at any time, it's not stuck where it is. Read long stuff, research something that interests you, engage with a topic outside of your current level expertise that you have to work to understand, watch something older than you are, talk to someone on a regular basis, practice something without the intent to share it. Don't try to do it all overnight. Sleep on it. The flexibility comes back, I promise. It's a recovery process and works the same as any other recovery process.

Okay Pacific Rim fandom, it's time to talk about the feedback cradle.
So, you know these things, right? This is the upper part of the Pilot Motion Rig, that whole thing rangers stand in to control the Jaeger.
Tumblr media
(Screencap from quiteunlikely.net)
So I need you to pay attention to this part:
Tumblr media
(Screencap from cap-that.com)
This is the feedback cradle.
So what's it do?
The novelization calls it a "full-spectrum neural transference plate." The feedback cradle is responsible for transferring the pilots' nerve impulses to the Jaeger, which controls its movements.
But that's not all it does. The feedback cradle also collects sensory data from the Jaeger's body to provide tactile feedback to the pilots through their circuitry suits - the black inner layer of their drivesuits.
The first layer, the circuity suit, was like a wetsuit threaded with a mesh of synaptic processors. The pattern of processor relays looked like circuitry on the outside of the suit, gleaming gold against its smooth black polymer material. These artificial synapses transmitted commands to the Jaeger’s motor systems as fast as the pilot’s brain could generate them, with lag times close to zero. (Page 16)
Why? Travis Beacham explained on his blog:
Being able to "feel" the Jaeger is critical to driving it. Consider a conventional remote-controlled robot hand holding a full styrofoam cup. For the operator, it's really difficult to judge how hard to hold the cup without spilling or crushing it because you're getting no feedback from the hand. So the Jaegers' control system was engineered so that the pilots' minds would get sensory input from the Jaeger itself. This sensory awareness of the mech's physical environment makes it a lot easier to keep their balance and coordinate a variety of complex moves and tasks.
A lot of people are unaware that this exists because it's not explicitly mentioned in the movie. But it's absolutely part of the story. This is why Raleigh screams when Knifehead stabs Lady Danger's arm, and when Raiju rips Lady Danger's arm off. He's receiving sensory input through the feedback cradle.
(And no, getting severe sensory feedback doesn't cause the pilots actual bodily harm. What messed up Raleigh's arm happened well after Knifehead stabbed Lady Danger's arm, sometime between getting ready to fire the I-19 Plasmacaster at Knifehead and walking the Jaeger back to shore.)

I have never written a fanfic before! Please be nice, constructive criticism and being rude are two very different things. This is VERY 18+. This chapter has nothing NSFW but several trigger warnings: Abuse, kidnapping, manipulation, age gap, reader is like 18-19 and Strade is like 30 somethin. Everyone is a little OOC, and gender!neutral reader! Also, not very long- still trying to convince myself to actually get out there.
xxGermanBodyShopxx: Hey, just checking in on you kiddo. Need to chat?
xxANONxx: Thanks Strade. Things at home feel like they’re kinda just getting worse but its okay. I don’t want to bother you with it.
xxGermanBodyShopxx: It sounds like it hasn’t gotten better in a while. You’re an adult, why don’t you just leave?
xxANONxx: I wouldn’t have anywhere to go, and my sisters... I can’t abandon them.
xxGermanBodyShopxx: He doesn’t target them, just you. You have me. You can live with me, you know that.
xxANONxx: I’m 3 hours out of your way, I couldn’t.
xxGermanBodyShopxx: Silly Hase. Of course, I’ll get you! You said theres a 711 nearby, correct?
xxANONxx:  ..Yeah. Let’s do it.
We met online almost a year ago to this date, the abuse from home began picking up more and more as I turned 18. Online was truly my only escape, no work because no car. No car because no work. It’s such an unfair cycle, how is someone supposed to tooth and claw their way up in this world? That’s when I met Strade, meeting on a 18+ chat. It was sexual, scary stuff some would call it: discussing rape or cnc, blood play, knife play, rope, etc. It grew into genuine fondness and good conversation of unlike things, and most nights we would call or facetime of some sort. I felt so much less alone.
Those calls meant everything to me, he was very charming and outgoing, and I genuinely could never describe myself that way. He took the lead in every aspect, decisive and sure. He was stable and consistent. All I have ever wanted in a person, in life.
3AM at the Gas Station
The anxiety in my body was slowly but surely turning into some severe nausea, and shakiness. The gas station was practically empty aside from one older man and the young attendant who looked high out of his mind. “You’re a cutie! Whatcha doin’ in such a shady place pretty lady?” The older man shouts from around the small bend towards me. I freeze, I was too in my own noggin to even consider that someone might question why I was probably looking suspicious. “Oh-I uhm.” The front doorbell jingles and walks in Strade. It was surreal seeing him in person, and honestly, surprised he came. “Ah, sorry to keep you waiting Liebe. Picked us up some food for the drive back home!” My body finally relaxed as I heard and saw the familiar German, fast paced walking towards him, only to be pulled into a tight embrace. “Let’s go home.”
It's a long drive home, but conversation is smooth and it’s like nothing was different. He was still sweet, talkative, if anything he was just more intense. I tried to ignore the missing door handle, he works on cars, right? Maybe something happened and he couldn’t fix it today? I didn’t want to think of why he wouldn’t have fixed it before I got in the car. “So, Hase. There are several ground rules to you living within my home.” He pauses, waiting for a response but only met with a nod.
In exchange for not working and me taking care of you, housework, cooking, cleaning, and some other projects will be for you to do.
You’re going to be presented to the neighborhood as my fiancé. Play. The. Part.
You’ll need to learn some medical basics. Stitches, bandaging, splints, etc. Don’t ask questions.
Behave, do what I say, and I wont do anything to hurt you outside the bedroom, ok?
Where the fuck did this come from?! “I-I What? I thought..” he chortles. “Yeah. I’m sure you did. You were born to be controlled, and you will live that way too. You never were good at making choices for yourself, little hase.” I feel the connection in my synapses click. I felt safe with him because it wasn’t something I didn’t already know. I loved him because he’d think when I didn’t want to. He listened to gather more information to control, not for love. “I’m actually being VERY kind. You wanted out. I got you out, no? You’ll see, youll live quite well compared to… the others I bring home.” His tone was ice. I believed him. Still thought he was a motherfucker for that though.

Unveiling the Marvels of Neurological Development 🧠✨
Hey, Tumblr fam! 👋 Today, let's embark on an exhilarating journey deep into the captivating realm of neurological development. 🌟 Buckle up because we're about to delve into the intricate science of how our brains come to life! 🧠💡
Embryogenesis Essentials:
Our journey begins during embryogenesis, the magical phase when the neural tube takes center stage. This seemingly simple structure holds the key to the brain's future complexity, as it gives rise to the brain and spinal cord. 🤯 Picture it as the canvas upon which the brain's masterpiece is painted. 🎨
But here's where it gets truly extraordinary—neurogenesis. Think of it as the birth of neurons, those remarkable cells forming our nervous system's building blocks. They multiply and differentiate, creating a neural orchestra that will play throughout our lives. ⭐️✨
Synaptic Wonders:
Fast forward to synaptogenesis—the symphony of the developing brain. Neurons extend their tendrils and engage in a breathtaking ballet of connection-making through synapses. 💃🕺 These connections aren't just beautiful; they're the basis of our cognitive abilities. These intricate connections that evolve with us make every memory, skill, and thought possible. 📚🧠
As if that's not mind-blowing enough, consider this: By the time you're a toddler, your brain has formed trillions of synapses! 😲
A Lifetime of Adaptation:
What's truly remarkable about the brain is its resilience and adaptability—neuroplasticity. This is the brain's way of staying forever young, constantly reshaping itself in response to experiences, learning, and even injuries. It's like a never-ending renovation project, sculpting our brains according to life's blueprint. 🏗️💡
So, whether you're fascinated by the intricacies of embryogenesis, the enchanting dance of synapses, or the resilience of neuroplasticity, remember that our brains are living works of art in constant creation. 🧠✨
Feel free to dive into these references to explore the scientific wonders behind neurological development! 📖🤓 Got questions? Drop 'em in the comments! Let's unravel the mysteries of the brain together. 🌌🤝

Abstract
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is associated with short- and long-term neurological complications. The variety of symptoms makes it difficult to unravel molecular mechanisms underlying neurological sequalae after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Here we show that SARS-CoV-2 triggers the up-regulation of synaptic components and perturbs local electrical field potential. Using cerebral organoids, organotypic culture of human brain explants from individuals without COVID-19 and post-mortem brain samples from individuals with COVID-19, we find that neural cells are permissive to SARS-CoV-2 to a low extent. SARS-CoV-2 induces aberrant presynaptic morphology and increases expression of the synaptic components Bassoon, latrophilin-3 (LPHN3) and fibronectin leucine-rich transmembrane protein-3 (FLRT3). Furthermore, we find that LPHN3-agonist treatment with Stachel partially restored organoid electrical activity and reverted SARS-CoV-2-induced aberrant presynaptic morphology. Finally, we observe accumulation of relatively static virions at LPHN3–FLRT3 synapses, suggesting that local hindrance can contribute to synaptic perturbations. Together, our study provides molecular insights into SARS-CoV-2–brain interactions, which may contribute to COVID-19-related neurological disorders

Lets go with 6, 7, 12, and 19!!!
6. What is your favorite type of art/fic? What genre/flavor/style?
I am a sucker for anything domestic, such as an established relationship where the reader/character and the dca already know each other really well—romantic or otherwise! Friends to lovers just hits the spot in that way!
Oooootherwise I really really love fics and art that explore a more slow-burn kinda thing, with some good tension here and there with obstacles for the reader/character to overcome—the realization that they have feelings, how to deal with those feelings, ect. Maybe just a touch of angst!
That said my overall love is quite broad, I’ve seen so many wonderful projects
7. What’s your favorite AU?
I love a lot, truly, though my overall experience with the broad range of bigger AUs is somewhat limited—in general I adore merfolk, vampire, and post-ruin domestic AUs a LOT
As for specifics, I cannot recommend enough the Fae AU/setting of @solar-synapse’s fic Star-Crossed. The writing is excellent and there’s a lot of complexity to the characters that warrant a re-read to get a full appreciation for the layers that are still going into it! Heed the tags and prepare for feels right to the gut, it’s excellent!
12. Thoughts on Eclipse?
I love him. I adore him. He deserves good sweet things and I will personally give him a hundred hugs a day.
Hilariously my first exposure to him was the Ruin DLC appearance, and the common fanon interpretation came AFTER, so in my mind he’s just a sweet bot with maximum malewife potential
19. Do you think you’d actually get along with the dca if they were real?
I like to think I would, but Sun would probably accidentally set off my social anxiety like, every day. Given that he is ALSO an exhausted customer service worker however, I like to think we’d at least have an excellent relationship as coworkers or buddies c:
Moon however? Wish me luck to not immediately burst into flames because he’d clock my crush a mile away

Didn't want to interrupt your post, but I had a thought to offer re: afterlife... something I heard once, that I could never disprove and gave me an odd amount of comfort, was the theory that the "afterlife" is just something your brain does as your life ends, where it provides you with a comforting fantasy as it shuts down. With the way time perception functions inside your brain when you're not conscious, this fantasy could stretch out "forever" for you even if it only lasts for a few seconds or minutes in real time. It sounds silly now that I write it out but I still consider it one of the best explanations for an afterlife that I've ever heard.
Yeah! I do think that's a possibility and think the possibility of that happening, of synapses firing that way just before death, could be an explanation of why there's a number of (former) atheists who had near death experiences and came out of them truly genuinely believing in an afterlife bc they'd seen one
(side note, not aimed at you but I was reminded of this incident by the current conversation: the mother of two of my closest friends, who was otherwise legit v supportive and helpful in many ways when I had cancer at 19, is rly religious and spiritual and tried to sell me on a book by an ex-atheist neurosurgeon about his NDE and how that had proven to him that the afterlife rly exists, and while I am convinced it was rly well intentioned and came from a genuine belief on her part that she meant to convince me of as a form of comfort and reassurance, it was also Terribly Non Helpful to a 19yo who was very actively and concretely very afraid of death and was simply Incapable of internalising that belief. it just made me feel worse bc it just made me even more aware of the fact that I Knew, very definitively and intimately, that the afterlife wasn't in fact real, and did already think back then that it was just last ditch chemical reactions in the brain)
I do think to an extent I'm too terrified of the objective reality of non existence to find the idea that I might not subjectively experience it as such at the moment of death bc of random synapses firing genuinely reassuring, but it does help a bit - it doesn't make me less afraid of death but it might make me less afraid of dying, if that's a distinction that makes sense?
In any case, genuinely thanks for sharing!

Modron, Septon
Tumblr media
Image © @tredlocity
[I’ve complained about the mechanical sameyness of 1e’s modron hierarchs before, lord knows. But this is where they thematically lose the plot as well. Hextons are generals and tertians are judges, but all of the other hierarchs up to Primus have the primary role of supervising the lower ranks and reporting to the upper ones. I want to avoid the modrons seeming particularly buffoonish, so I wanted to give them some actual roles in society. Making the septon an archivist seemed a logical choice, particularly with the art that Tred gave it. I also moved the psionics (read: psychic magic) from the nonaton to the septon, again to emphasize the scholastic feeling.]
Modron, Septon CR 13 LN Outsider (extraplanar) This humanoid creature is made primarily of metal, with organic looking hands and eyes. It has a large collar from which grow seven long arms, emerging in a radial pattern.
Septons act as the intellectual labor that supports the will of Primus. They are actuaries and accountants, bookkeepers, librarians and archivists. A septon serves to ensure that trade runs smoothly, that taxes and tithes are collected and distributed correctly, and that objects collected by the modrons on the Great Modron March are analyzed and stored properly. Most septons are constantly busy but remain relatively sessile, confined to their museums or treasuries. A septon will defend its site with its life, and does not tolerate uninvited guests.
As such, septons are rather brusque and rude by the standards of modron hierarchs, as they do not wish to be disturbed in their labors. Combat is a distraction most septons would usually rather not engage in, but this does not mean that they are not skilled at it. A septon’s analytical mind gives them powerful insights in battle, and their intellect extends into the realm of psychic magic. Most of a septon’s spells are better suited for study than for battle, but they do have a few powerful offensive abilities. Still, a septon’s favorite strategy is to use mass suggestion at the start of a fight, instructing those that succumb to surrender themselves to the nonatons for imprisonment and judgement.
Septons have a motility collar like the octons do, but theirs is physically smaller and affords them less speed. This consideration is due, like most modron characteristics, to efficiency. Septons spend most of their lives in their archive, rather than having to travel long distances, but being able to fly or swim still allows for security measures and mobility that would vex interlopers. A septon usually carries a weapon and a number of disposable items such as scrolls or wands for defense. They do not hesitate to use these, but also are sure to make a note of such expenditures.

Summary: The night her abductors die, Rayelle finds herself running for her life. She doesn’t know where she is, what is following her, where to go. All she knows is she’s not on Earth any longer and the thing chasing her has the capacity to kill.
Tai'dqei never anticipated finding a human when he took the job of tracking and subduing a small contingent of smugglers. It was only when the human attacked and fled fled, Tai'dqei - hopped up on the euphoria of a successful hunt - gave chase, instinct burning at his center.
Will sense return to Tai'dqei before he catches Rayelle? Or will Rayelle be subjected to the yautja’s natural inclinations?
And what happens afterwards?

The time spent on Tai’dqei’s ship passed by with agonizing speed. Rayelle couldn’t help but wonder if there was yet another time anomaly happening, but she knew the truth. She was enjoying her last cycles with Tai’dqei. Now that the heightened hormones that caused such a burning need were under control, they weren’t struggling nearly as badly.
Though she still couldn’t help but tease and mildly flirt with him. Especially whenever he seemed to tense or act awkward. It was kind of cute, how this massive beefy killing machine could be undone by a suggestion word or innuendo. Of course, she did keep everything masked in two layers of obfuscation.
She also supposed that her renewed sense of control helped the situation. Before the visit to the clinic, she had felt like she was being pulled along by the nose.
In the scant time they had together, Rayelle jam-packed it with as much as she could. They watched movies and conversed and played a few games. At one point, she had a sudden hankering for pancakes. Which Tai’dqei was able to humor with some basic supplies available onboard. Even though he ate and said he enjoyed them, Rayelle wasn’t entirely certain he was being sincere.
Just as she wasn’t certain about leaving him.
Rayelle sat in a passenger row behind Tai’dqei, staring at the space station floating mid-screen. A little off center and behind the station, a blue and green planet hovered. Apparently, they couldn’t land directly on the resort planet.
The sudden realization their time was up sent a nervous prickle through her body.
She had focused on the station in the holoscreen. It was a large spherical structure with an outer ring. Rayelle watched as a ship left the far right side as they approached.
Tai’dqei didn’t seem confused about being restricted to the station, so Rayelle tried to convince herself it was alright. There wasn’t anything to worry about. She presumed the resort simply didn’t want humans - unused to space travel and ships criss-crossing the sky - to be continuously bombarded with unfamiliar sights, especially during such a stressful time.
This place was designed to be an oasis of familiarity, an effort to shield time-displaced humans from too much novelty, advanced technology, or non-human interaction.
It made sense, but she obviously wasn’t a usual case, considering she had spent plenty of time with a non-Terran species. Hopefully, Detective Gorgiel had relayed that information to the counselors on Rerli 3. Hopefully, they understood that Tai’dqei had been one of the only constants, and her protector, during her time-space jaunt.
The hopes smacked of wishful thinking. Realistically, or pessimistically, this was it.
The mounting agitation over her inevitable separation from Tai’dqei clung to the back of her thoughts. It was like a tick, burrowing deeper and deeper into her synapses.
Phantom tears burned the back of her eyes, but she took a deep breath, trying to alleviate the pressure. While the immense sadness burrowed in her, an irritation flared at herself. This was silly. She was being silly. In the grand scheme of everything, she barely knew Tai’dqei and was only clinging to him, because he’d become someone familiar.
But they were going to easily move on with their lives, once they parted ways.
Rayelle jolted as the metallic sound of something clamping, of gears whirring, of hydraulics hissing echoed around the ship. Tai’dqei stood, drawing her eye to him and his pilot’s chair. Her teeth sunk into her lower lip as he stretched his arms over his head, his full armor glinting in the lights. Even though this was heavier armor than his usual, his skin peeked out between the plates and pieces.
Rayelle’s fingers itched to touch him, to feel the thick leathery skin under her fingertips. Time was running out to solidify the sensation in her head. Then her attention flicked to the chair, faint memories tickling her thoughts. His hands on her. His fingers inside her. The growling, clicking vibrations that sunk to her bone marrow.
Good luck forgetting any of that, she told herself.

Fictober '21 Prompt No. 19 — "I feel strange.“
Category: Original WIP: For The Stars Rating: T Timeline: an AU in which both Warren and Thrive are human CW: Mature situations Word Count: 737 Additional Notes: this is way too short lmao

PART IV ➳ PART III ➳ PART II ➳ PART I
"Hoo, boy," Warren sighed, running a hand down his face. "I feel strange."
Thrive nodded from his seat at the opposite end of the couch from him. "I've noticed this happens when you've had red wine."
"You think I could be allergic? I haven't even had two glasses."
Swirling his own wine in the stemmed glass held between his long fingers, Thrive shrugged, using a remote in his other hand to flip through the streaming titles on the TV. "It's possible. I'd stop drinking that one to be safe."
Warren perched his glass on the coffee table. "Dinner was great, by the way. Thanks for cooking."
"I'm happy to do it." Thrive switched to a music app and started one of Warren's playlists, getting to his feet. "I'll do the dishes tonight since you're not feeling all that well."
"You sure? I could probably still do 'em…"
"Don't worry about it. There isn't that much to do."
"Only 'cause you clean as you cook." Warren chuckled, tapping his foot to the song. "You fuckin' nerd."
He caught a good-natured eye roll as Thrive entered the kitchen with both glasses.
The song changed and Warren shot off the couch. "Oh, here we go!"
"What's that?"
"I choreographed a whole thing for this," Warren said, already into it, moving as if it were second nature. The up-tempo dance beat kept a wide smile on his face even when Thrive paused his task to watch him with an odd look from the open kitchen. "Didn't you know I danced from middle school to college?"
"…Can't say that I did," Thrive said.
"Yeah, man," Warren cheered, letting the music overcome him. He danced around the coffee table, singing along, and he brought his hyped energy into the kitchen, where the closer he got to Thrive, the higher the corner of Thrive's mouth inched upward. "Nearly threw my hat into the erotic dancing ring to pay for school."
"Hmm." Thrive used one hand to spray the dishes in the sink with water from the detachable nozzle, not taking his eyes away from Warren. "There's an abundance of qualification, in any case."
Warren stopped and quirked an eyebrow. "Well that's an interesting development. Like what you see, Judge?" He spread his arms and swayed his hips. "This doin' it for you?"
Thrive cocked his head. "Would you want it to?"
"Considering I'm half a misfired synapse away from grinding on you, I'd say so, yeah."
"Maybe not into that, per se," Thrive said, turning his full—yet visibly reluctant—attention onto the pans he cooked with, "…but I may want to revisit the erotic dancing topic in a little bit."
"If you want a lap dance, it's fifty bucks."
Thrive laughed. "Don't ask how I know this, but that's a bit steep."
Warren paused between songs and ambled the few feet to him. He snaked a hand around the back of Thrive's neck and leaned in close to his ear. "My guy…this would be the best lap dance of your entire life."
"It would be the only lap dance of my entire life," Thrive muttered, though his voice had subtly tightened.
"And god, would I be honored to give it." Warren's fingers raked through Thrive's hair, rubbing into his scalp with gentle firmness.
Thrive forced out a breath as he attempted to focus on his chore. "Give me ten minutes."
"You have five."
"I can do three."
"Speedrun it, baby," Warren purred. He snickered, starting up a dance for the next song and moving into the hallway that contained their bedrooms.
Warren opened his eyes to complete silence and a pitch-dark room. The playlist had clearly run out ages ago and someone had the forethought to shut off all the lights in the apartment. He shifted and knocked his elbow into a body beside him, earning a grunt for the occasion.
"Oh, fuck, sorry…"
"What's wrong?" Thrive asked groggily into the side of his head.
"Uh…nothing. Whose…whose bed is this?"
"…I don't actually remember. After a certain point, I wasn't exactly paying attention to our surroundings." A few beats passed during which the sound of rustling filled the silence and the mattress shifted. "This is a double. We're in mine."
"That tracks," Warren yawned. "Probably still night. Brain feels like noodles. More sleep."
"No arguments here," Thrive murmured, looping his arms around Warren and lacing their fingers together before they both drifted back to sleep.
