I’m so sorry to those who hate speech bubbles and supernatural hijacks because I think they’re so funny and the height of entertainment. I’m not going to stop. I’m going to get worse.

i hope yellowjackets never gives a clearcut answer vis a vis the whole "how much of it is the supernatural and how much of it is the trauma" question, but like, at this point my best guess for tai is that she physically has a screw loose in the most literal sense possible. like something is not right up there. and i don't even mean in the mental illness sense, they're all deeply traumatized and different shades of mentally ill at this point, but like- this degree of sleepwalking, and dissociating, and losing time? it's giving neurological damage, it's giving uniquely horrible and very strange form of traumatic brain injury. like that plane crash knocked something Loose i swear to god

something I wish they’d done more for was chuck and jack’s relationship. like that’s his grandfather, that’s the famous guy in the Bible who jack thought it was so cool to be related to. and the first time they meet chuck is already commanding dean to kill him, yelling that he’s dangerous, that he’s a threat. and jack has had to hear that from everyone around him since he was born, he’s had to shoulder it and make himself smaller so he’s not a threat, so that he’s worth loving. and his own grandfather, his own actual blood who barely knows him already hates him, already wants him dead. is it because of his father? just like every other bad thing about him? is jack just doomed to be stuck in Lucifer’s shadow forever or until he dies? come on man gimme something here

I just remembered when I was 13 I used to read jelsa fanfiction on my 3DS like the little weirdo I was......
Yeah go ahead & judge me, I deserve it
Though tbh I didn’t have a phone or laptop to use, so my 3DS was my only access to the internet in my own time
Like we had a family computer, but I didn’t have the bravery to read fanfiction like that, I was so nervous even accessing websites like deviantart or YouTube
Also I wanna say I came across other fanfictions such as destiel, hijack, and phan but I had no idea who some of the characters were back then lol
Ah my childhood was something XD

Been running into the silliest problem you can have while reading books which is. I have stumbled into reading books on a theme and the theme is. Creature lives inside a host and pilots the body and the original inhabitant gets shunted out of consciousness and is at the whims of the possessor who is just living their life in someone else’s body. And the tone is. Isn’t this fucked. Isn’t this awful. Don’t you root for the hapless host to someday regain control. And. Supernatural brain status terminal has me like. Ummmmm maybe the host had bad vibes maybe the creature is just chilling and can’t help that it needs a body maybe they’re going to fall in love with a human and glow pink in the night and be more than the sum of their partsand become a father to a son and say dean winchester I’m in love with you. Someone you know might be a creature that has hijacked someone else’s body maybe even someone you love think before you speak hate

Titivilus, advisor/ambassidor for the ruler of hell's second layer. His normal form is a 5' 6" (1.7‑meter) satyr-like creature meant to resemble his master but shorter. He can supernaturally frighten with a word, transform into other humanoid species, use illusions, modify memories, and magically charm you into doing as he says. He's also a teleporting ventriloquist that can make an illusory body-double whose senses he can control and hijack. while he hides invisible and undetectable. If you're looking for personality, he's as slippery as you might suspect. He's in power over the second realm despite their being better people for the job, because he's the only person his incredibly paranoid boss trusts. He's incredibly clever and one of the multiverse's best charmers and manipulators. Hit smash and you won't be the first, but sometimes a pretty lie is nice for an afternoon.

No game has ever made me sit down and start writing academic-level essays like Scarlet Hollow does. There are just... so many angles it could be analyzed from, and so many fascinating themes running through it. The personhood of children, the personhood of animals, things that are passed down through the generations, from the negative (generational trauma) to the positive (local traditions and folklore).
I'm not that knowledgeable on horror as a whole, but I know there's a notion that supernatural horror is often representative of more realistic fears, and from what I've noticed, the theme running through all the horror concepts in this game is a lack of autonomy, be it economic autonomy from living under capitalistic oppression, social autonomy from an overbearing parent, or bodily autonomy, with everything from the Ditchlings taking over animals' bodies to be hosts for their young to Charles Shaw Jr. hijacking the characters' bodies and using them as puppets.
As the most alive and reactive choice-based game I've ever encountered, I obviously see a lot of space to talk about choice and free will and morality (does it blow anyone else’s mind that so much of what happens in this town, right down to who lives or dies, is entirely dependent on the decisions of this one single person? How much power the player and by extension the cousin really has? It’s what makes it fun to play but it must also be so terrifying from the cousin’s perspective). And the comparative analyses that could be made with other games based on this too… My dream comparative analysis would be between Scarlet Hollow and, um, the Quantic Dream library? I’m sorry devs, I promise I don’t mean that as an insult - David Cage is a bad person who makes bad games but there’s also always been this boldness to the choices those games allow you to make and the ways they can branch that I kind of respect? I’m very glad I now have Black Tabby to look up to in that regard instead.
All of that, plus the game is a real masterclass in worldbuilding and characterization and pacing and humor… I would use it as a teaching aid in a creative writing class, for sure.
I’m sorry for the long post, it’s just that this game makes every neuron in my brain fire rapidly. I’m the kind of person who always tries to elevate my hyperfixations to the level of high art, because I like having this kind of stuff to analyze. Scarlet Hollow is the first fixation in a while that’s made it so easy. It really deserves to be elevated in such a way. Video game good. Make me think. The end.

For no logical reason whatsoever today I am mentally on fire about the camerawork in Midnight Mass. In the artbook they talk about how scenes are mostly filmed handheld initially and then gradually shift to stationary shots as the story gets more supernatural and just...my god is it effective. When Crockett is filmed handheld like a docudrama in the beginning it feels so freakin’ human. You sense that person standing behind the camera, showing you what they see, at person-level height, moving in a person-like way. The Soolaimon sequence also feels filmed with so much love, like a local islander showing off what makes up this little community they call home. Then in contrast, even in the first episode, there are stationary shots, drained of all signs of life behind the camera, and positioned in places no human could feasibly go. Father Paul drags the trunk into the rectory and we move up onto the freakin’ ceiling to watch him tap on it and get a response from inside. What I find interesting about this too is how the instinct of a horror filmmaker typically is to do the opposite of this. Keep the camera steady at first, make the world feel safe and stable, then switch to shaky handheld when the scares happen to induce anxiety and panic. But handheld-to-stationary makes so much more sense here. Highlighting the imperfect, intimate feel of Crockett Island life vs. the surreal way the mind heightens an experience of fear and trauma. The freeze response of fight/flight/freeze. It isn’t a horror story, it’s a love story hijacked by a horror story, and even the camera is a victim to the horror’s influence.

Hey, this may seem like a random ask, but what do you think of the fan theory of Diavolo being possessed by a demon instead of having actual DID. In a world where vampires exist, zombies exist, the Pillar Men exist and aliens are implied to exist, having demons exist makes perfect sense to me.
To be honest with you, anon, I don't like that theory. I think it flattens a lot of Diavolo's intrigue as well as the depth between him and Doppio. I think the fact that it's a fairly popular fan theory only speaks to the unfortunately ableist and demonizing way their DID was written and handled in canon.
Personally, I don't believe it's an intentional implication- not in the manga, at least. It's definitely suggested something supernatural is going on with their mysterious birth circumstances, but I don't believe that's supposed to mean that Diavolo and Doppio are actually something completely different from a person with DID. Polnareff's description of how DID works in Jojo (one soul splits and develops into two souls due to childhood trauma) matches Diavolo and Doppio's situation seemingly perfectly; they are pretty consistently shown as one human soul that was split into two due to childhood trauma.
Sans the weird birth, Diavolo doesn't show any traits of a definitively non-human soul (unlike Jojo's vampires, zombies, and implied aliens), and in fact, he's often referred to as the "true form" and the body's "true nature"; if he were a demon possessing Doppio, how would he be the body's "true nature"? I also feel like it's suggested that Diavolo not only was always there, but holds childhood trauma with the way he was raised by a priest who named him "Devil" and Doppio seemingly lacking most of his past memories. It doesn't match up with the "Diavolo is actually an evil demon hijacking some guy's body" concept to me.
I do not like it when people frame Diavolo as a "born evil" character. I think it's much more interesting to consider him as "evil as hell and hard to pick out his intentionally-obscured feelings, but feelings are there". I much prefer thinking about Diavolo and Doppio through the lens of severe festering trauma combined with the goal of cutting out your humanity for power and empire. I think Diavolo is far more interesting as a human corrupted by greed, hurting himself in the process, than a demon doing evil for demon reasons.
With that being said, I wouldn't be surprised if the anime adaptation was trying to suggest Diavolo was something inhuman. They change the baby's eyes to Doppio's and have them flash red for no explainable reason, and their backstory is altered to be far more Doppio-centric, including deleting the mention of their legal name actually being "Diavolo". I suspect that the anime was a big boost to the demon possession fan theory (and I've expressed before that I dislike many of the anime changes).
Diavolo as a character is definitely left very open for speculation, but those are my general thoughts on that idea in particular.

my personal headcanon/theory of Rui's first high school year!!
so all we know from the one line it was mentioned in pretty much is that he got into this posh school, i like to think he managed to get in through scholarship. i also hc it was an all boys school, to sort of be a less fun foil to Miyajou. so basically, Rui ended up in a school full of bitchy rich boys. no whimsy. no silliness. probably just work and boring talk of the future. Otori brothers prolly went there a decade ago.
sure wonder if he managed to fit in...
... nope, not at all!! he unintentionally clashed with them a lot on the rare times he managed to interact with his classmates. Rui's probably the type of student that asks a ton of questions in lessons, half satirical but half genuinely curious ones, and either way, at the "elite" place, both his classmates and teachers very quickly got fed up with it...
and of course, like the rest of his life, no one around him would give two shits about his ideas or interests which would defo begin having an effect on him quite early on (undiagnosed throughout his whole life neurodivergent Rui? it's more likely than you think!!)
also because i like books about boarding schools, i want to hc this one to be too- and i imagine Rui was full of hopes that his experience would be just as exciting as boarding school life is depicted in fiction- midnight feasts, light hearted drama, pillow fights, gossiping past bedtime, sneaking around to explore the school past curfew, having some sort of supernatural mystery to spread and hear rumours about, all that.
but obviously that didn't happen. it was dull and boring and not at all close to the warm, fun and friendly environment he'd been wanting. all his dormmates actually followed the rules strictly and he couldn't even get away with sneaking out by himself because there was more security than those books made out there'd be!!
as Rui began to realise he wanted out, that this was dreadful, that he was not going to spend three whole years like this, he felt like doing something drastic, to make up for a whole year of supressed creativity. Rui Kamishiro did not simply march into the headteacher's office and politely inform them of his decision to transfer with no fuss or noise. nah, i like to think he got himself expelled on purpose.
he was already excluded socially- might as well get himself excluded officially too.
he went out with a literal bang- did something along the lines of hijacking his school's main assembly hall to put on a little show with robots he'd secretly been building in the singular secret room he'd found (one boarding school wish come true ig) and at the end of it, a grand finale composed of a massive explosion of rainbow smoke and glitter that got everywhere and on everyone.
they didn't wait very long to chuck him out after he pulled that.

Pnat theorists I have a question. It was finally confirmed a while ago that the BERG possessing Max is a Sphinx. My question is, when did Max get possessed by it?
(Continuing under the cut because I’m incapable of making a short post)
Tumblr media
This shot when he first gets the bat seems likely, considering the white glowing eyes and headache right after he first shows his spectral energy. This implies that both Scrapdragon and BERG were in the same tool.
Tumblr media
However, earlier in the chapter, Max bursts into his room to confront the hissing noise he was hearing. When you look closely, there’s the faint start of a spec shot at his fingertip, implying he was already a spectral before finding his tool.
This could be explained if being a spectral is genetic, considering baby Ed had spectral energy and had access to the dream hub to try and see his mom, as well as Isabel is at least a third generation spectral. This wasn’t one of Isaac’s listed reasons from chapter 1, though, and I don’t think it’s been explicitly confirmed.
(Prolonged exposure to the supernatural could be the case for Isabel and Ed, it doesn’t explain Max since his father and Zoe aren’t shown to be spectrals).
Tumblr media
And let’s not forget Max’s mom, aka Agent Summers, warned Max about making promises in the chapter 4 flashback. Since the Sphinx possessing Max has something to do with promises/contracts/oaths/etc, it would make sense that she would warn him about it if she knew he was being possessed.
But then that raises the question of how he wasn’t seeing spirits before moving if he’s been possessed for 5+ years? It’s theorized that Agent Summers was a Medium for Forge (her hand has an oddly scaled texture here), but maybe she was possessed or had a tool for the Sphinx first? Then after she died, the spirit hitched a ride in Max to get back to Mayview similarly to Forge and Johnny? If Max doesn’t get possessed until getting the bat then it’s a moot point, but then why does his mom seem to warn him about promises if the Sphinx wasn’t directly relevant?
This section alone could be its own post, but let’s get back to the point.
Tumblr media
Moving on, this shot of Davy in what is likely the same supply closet the bat was found in has always been weird. He doesn’t have anything on him later when he confronts Hijack, so we can assume that he was looking for Max’s bat, presumably because there’s a Sphinx in it and not because of a random grudge with magnet powers.
Along with that, we’re soon going to find out what his evil plan for the PTA meeting is, which we can assume is being held at the school (or maybe not, I don’t know anything about actual PTA meetings).
Tumblr media
However again, this line from Lucifer has always been a little odd. When Hijack asks about the shadow spirit, Lucy calls it “worthless scrap.” Scrap is obviously associated with Scrapdragon and not much else, which maybe implies that Scrapdragon isn’t just a mindless beast but actually something powerful, or at least it used to be. If so, that could also mean Davy was looking for the bat for Scrapdragon, and the Sphinx was never in it.
(Idk this one is a bit of a stretch, but it’s still weird, and Zack is well known for their small foreshadowing details that lead to huge reveals.)
Anyway that was a lot, but let me know what you guys think or if I missed/misinterpreted anything :D

The Beskar Beast IV (Din Djarin x Reader)
CHAPTER 4
Previous Chapter - Next Chapter
A Beauty and The Beast Retelling.
The Beskar Beast of Nevarro was a creature both worshipped and feared, protecting the planet from its enemies. Every two years the town would offer a woman as a sacrifice for their continued protection. When your sister is chosen, you take her place to save her life and find yourself entangled with the Mandalorian beast and his curse.
AN: I'm in a slump and I hate this chapter and I've got so many ideas for future chapters I just gotta power through these so bear with me and please let me know your thoughts.
Rated: 16+
Warnings: Threats of Violence
Tumblr media
When you had imagined what the Beskar Beast looked like, you’d always thought of the most skin-crawling features. You pictured lumpy green flesh and black eyes, twisted teeth and no hair because that’s what monsters should look like. They were supernatural creatures designed to hurt and terrify those around them, it was only fitting that they’d look the part.
But this monster? He did not look like that.
The helmet hit the table hard behind you, your eyes widening as the Beast caged you against the hardwood. Unruly brown hair fell across the creature's forehead, curling over his ears and against his cheek. You leaned back when he pulled close, gritted teeth flashing from beneath full lips.  His nose was sloped and strong and he was younger than you’d expected. The only thing that would have raised alarms had you seen him out in town was his eyes.
A maroon gaze, framed by thick lashes, stared down at you. They were the colour of blood, the very thing he wanted from you, what he needed to consume.
“This is what I am,” he murmured, dark brows furrowed. His voice was raw, free of the vocoder in his helmet and you felt your body flush. It held the same rasp but somehow now, it was much more intimate ot hear him speak. Quickly, you were reminded of the severity of the situation when he gritted his teeth. Alarm tugged on your spine as two sharp canines gleamed in the light from behind his lips. Fangs.
He was beautiful.
But there was something so, so wrong.
Your body screamed at the sight of him, dumping adrenaline into your system and begging you to run. Nausea rose in your stomach and all you knew was that it was unsafe to be near him, that your life was in danger, growing with every second you stood there.
“That feeling you have?” The Beast rasped with a knowing nod,“that feeling is your survival instincts telling you that you’re going to die if you don’t run.”
Dark strands of hair brushed along his lashes as spoke, shadowing his eyes. The Beast appraised you for a long moment while you processed; as if this was also his first time seeing you. That blood-red gaze scoured your features just as you scanned his, devouring every inch of your image and committing it to memory.
“But if you run,” he lowered his eyes, his fingers rapping against the hardwood behind you, “it triggers… something. I can’t stop myself from chasing.”
You choked. If the sight of him kicked your flight instinct into gear, which in turn triggered his predator drive….  It was a trap. His very existence was a trap. He made you want to run because he needed it.
You knew then that this was a different kind of monster.
He was not an ugly, demented creature, and not something that would appear in your nightmares. The Beskar Beast was much worse. He was designed to lure you in, to overcome your common sense and hijack your logic; he’d convince you to bare your neck to him- only for him to tear it out.
He was the kind of monster that beckoned you to death, he did not force you into it.
The Beast made you crave it.
That is why he’d said you would be afraid, not by his appearance, but by how you would feel. Your entire body was at war.
A tear slipped from your lashes.
The monster followed it with his gaze, he watched as it trailed your cheek and down your neck. He groaned softly at the bob of your throat before dragging his eyes to meet yours. They were darker now, dangerous quiet flooding the space between you.
“Are you afraid?” The words were a whisper, beating against your lips as gentle as a breath. Another tear fell as you pleaded with your body to pull away from him, you begged your hands to strike at the creature. The Beast frowned, his thumb swiping at the droplet running from him while you remained frozen beneath his touch.
“Yes,” you shuddered. He blinked, that full mouth parting for a split second before his expression hardened once more.
“Good.”
The Beast took a step back, taking his helmet with him as he did. He raised his finger to tap your chin and the second he made contact you could breathe again. Your knees wobbled beneath you and you gripped the table hard, forcing your body to stay upright.
“You know not to run,” the Beast eyed you meaningfully, tucking his helmet beneath his arm. “It never turns out well.”
You stared at the monster with growing horror. The women before you must have died that way, hunted down by a Mandalorian creature and drained of their blood. In an attempt to save their own life, they’d doomed it. You would not die like that, you’d die on your own terms.
“You’re cruel,” you whispered, braving a step towards the demon. His eyes glittered with surprise, brows shooting upward. “Kill me now and be done with this. Take what you need and free me.”
His mouth turned hard and you watched the muscles of his jaw twitch. “We’re done here.”
The Beast pulled the helmet back over his head, glaring down at you through his visor. Your heart raced at the prospect of those maroon eyes watching you without consequence.
“Dinner is mandatory,” the creature stood tall as he spoke, creating distance between your bodies. “Whatever you do until then is up to you.”
“What about you?” You asked shakily. When the Beast tilted his head, you took that as your cue to continue. “How will you… collect?”
“Collect?...”
Your blood simmered beneath your skin as you gestured toward your neck vaguely. You didn’t know how else to put it and if you had to try you thought you might’ve thrown up.  The monster inhaled sharply.
“Tomorrow.”
That was all that he deigned to say before he turned on his heels and disappeared into the darkness.
____
“It’s not a nice experience,” Cara winced, leaning back into her chair with a sigh. The intimidating woman had come knocking on your door the next morning armed with Peli and a tray of Tarine tea and porridge. You hadn’t known there were Tarine leaves on Nevarro and you couldn’t believe that the Beast of all people had managed to get his hands on it.
“Understatement of the century,” Peli scoffed, rubbing the back of her neck roughly. “He’s got sharp kriffin’ teeth- it freaks me out.”
You dropped your face into your trembling hands, letting loose a groan from deep within your chest. Again you wondered how you’d managed to get yourself into this situation.
“It won’t kill me though?” You asked, pulling your gaze from your palms.
“Not if he can stop,” Peli shrugged. “He’s pretty good with that.”
Pretty good?
Your life hung in the balance and the best reassurance that you had was a half-assed shrug from a curly-haired menace.
“Has he done… that… to you?” You ventured carefully. It must be traumatic to have someone you serve tear into your throat and you didn’t want to trip any emotional wires.
“What? Feed?” Cara guaffed.
“Kriff no,” Peli waved her hand at you dismissively. “He can’t. It’s the one part of the curse I’m grateful for.”
You sat up straight on the bed, wariness long forgotten. There was a curse? You wanted to push the subject but by the way the woman immediately sunk in her chair, you figured you’d be getting nothing out of her. Clearly, you weren’t meant to know about it… but it was so obviously relevant to your life. Why didn’t you deserve to know?
As if on cue, Cara’s commlink sounded with a series of beeps.
Your stomach dropped.
The air in the room suddenly felt heavy and the prospect of this mysterious ‘curse’ was long forgotten. The Beast had said that he would be collecting his debt from you today, but you’d half expected him to ignore you after the dinner fiasco.
“Well,” Peli clapped her hands, standing to her feet with a huff. “You look like a Hutt, go get dressed and clean up.”
You didn’t miss the exchange of grim looks between her and Cara.
As you got changed, you contemplated what the next hour might look like for you. And as you were ushered out of your room and into the hallway, their silence indicated that it would not be good.
__
You had been expecting the dungeon or maybe a toneless room that made you more  nervous than the Beast. However, for the first time throughout the entirety of this ordeal, you were pleasantly surprised.
It looked like a cozy lounge room you’d see in the homes from the wealthier district of town. There were no windows, instead the walls were adorned with stacked shelving and intricate artworks hanging delicately from the space in between. You hadn’t seen real parchment in so long, the books of old and stories that you could physically touch. Holo-libraries had taken over well before your time, it wasn’t often you’d see a real book.
There was a cushy arrangement of lounges, all leather and all black with an array of pillows scattered across the cushions. Had you not known any better, you would have though that this was someone’s safe haven. Maybe a quiet place to seek reprieve.
But if you had been called there then you suspected this room, bathed in candlelight and a false sense of security, had been the last thing many women had seen.
“I need to explain how this will work.”
You jumped, whirling to face the doorway behind you. The Beast stood there, leaning against the doorway with folded arms and a solemn expression.
“Maker,” you gasped, placing a hand over your heart, “you scared me.”
The creature shot you a withering look and had this not been such a dire situation, you might have laughed. You were surprised to see that he wore none of his armour, just a black modified flight suit. There was a thick belt slung around his waist and a multitude of pockets fitted to the clothing, definitely re-made to suit the specifics of his lifestyle. You assumed that’s what he was wearing beneath all of that beskar and a shot of electricity pinched your spine.
It was strangely intimate seeing him like this, completely bare and on display. Clearly, you were not a threat to the mighty protector of Nevarro and you only wished that he was not such a threat to you.
As those maroon eyes slid over your figure slowly from his place by the door, you scrambled for words to offer.
“Well, how would we do this then?” You stammered, crossing your arms over your chest. You then realised that you were subconsciously mimicking him and promptly clasped your hands behind your back.
The Beast dropped his head as he pushed off from the door frame, lazily approaching you. That same nausea you had felt at dinner began to tug at the depths of your stomach and you gulped down the sudden rush of dizziness assaulting your head. You wanted to leave, it was an abrupt sense of urgency telling you to flee, to run as fast as you could and never look back. But you knew what that was and you would not be a victim to that game. So, you grit your teeth and forced yourself to stand still as the monster drew closer.
“You should sit,” he nodded towards the couch beside you both, hand hovering above your back as he guided you down.
“Well,” you beckoned him to continue, your nerve slowly fizzling out the longer you sat pinned beneath that blood-red gaze. “Is there a needle? A blood donation?”
The Beast scoffed, flicking away a stray curl that lay twisted by his lashes. The move was so human you were shocked by how easily this creature could pass as one of you.
“I will need to bite you,” he said, clenching his jaw. You knew that. You had been hopeful that the options you’d suggested might have been enough for him, but you weren’t stupid. Those fangs that waited behind full lips were not for decoration.
“Will it hurt?” You whispered, wringing your hands together in your lap. The Beast watched the movement for a second before responding.
“Yes,” the creature hesitated, “it will be excruciating.”
“Will it kill me?” You shuddered.
“Not if you don’t try to run.”
You stared at him for a long moment, the urge to flee so strong that you almost convinced yourself that you might escape him if you really tried.
“There’s a procedure for this,” the Beast almost sounded as though he were trying to comfort you. “You won’t die. I could even make it painless.”
You perked up, suddenly the thought of having someone tearing into your neck didn’t seem so bad if there was a way to take out the pain in the equation.
“You can do that?” You rasped, relief flooding your system.
The Beast leaned back against the lounge and dropped his gaze. When his fingers twitched and tapped against his lap, you realised that this ‘saving grace’ may not be what you’d hoped.
“I have the ability to numb you,” the Beast nodded.
“How?” You ventured warily, almost afraid to know the answer.
The monster looked less like a monster and more like a man as he coughed uncomfortably. When he finally looked at you, his gaze lowered from your eyes to your lips.
“I-” the Beast’s voice trailed off. “My kiss.”
You blinked dumbly.
“The kiss will numb you.”
