hello!! i was wondering if you have any ways to worship Sol/Sunna, her brother (Mani) and Loki?
Offerings and ways of Worshipping Sól / Sunna
Tumblr media
Associated runes: Dagaz and Sowelo
Offerings of Cider, Mead, Apple juice and orange juice
Like many solar deities, sunflowers and sun imagery are always a good idea!
In Germanic mythology Sól is considered the personification of the sun, meaning just spending some time outside in the sun would be perfectly acceptable!
Citrus is always good for sun gods and goddesses, lemons, limes, oranges, grapefruits, pomelo, kumquat, mandarin and clementine are all good!
Show respect to the land!
Pick up rubbish! Plant a garden! Go eco friendly! Bamboo brushes! No single use plastics! Every little bit counts 🧡
Donate to charities that help the environment such as tree planting, community gardens, wildlife protection, ocean clean ups, ozone protection! Pitch in too if you can!
Horses and Chariots!
Plants 🪴 are great offerings! Put them on her altar! Take care of them in her honour
Wear warm/summer colours
Sunna is a healer! First aid courses, learning old helping practices and remedies and even just taking care of yours and other physical health is amazing!
Know a good source recipe for when your sick? Perfect idea for an offering
Sunna embodies, energy, motivation and enthusiasm, carry these feelings with you always (as much as you can)
Have a candle on her altar! She gave the gift of fire! Its important to honour that
Celebrate the solstice!
Sun tea!!! 🌞
Honey
Hibiscus
Hope this helped! Sol/Sunna is hard to find information on so communicate with her directly and collaborate on offering ideas

The Evermore Grimoire: Norse Mythology
Sunna (Sól meaning ‘Mistress Sun’) was the goddess of the sun in Norse mythology. She drove a chariot of the sun across the sky every day. Pulled by the horses Allsvinn (‘Very Fast’) and Arvak (‘Early Rising’), the sun-chariot was pursued by the wolf Skoll. It was said that sometimes he would come so close that he was able to take a bite out of the sun, causing an eclipse. At Ragnarok, the foretold ‘Twilight of the Gods’ or end of the world, it was believed the sun would finally be swallowed by Skoll. When the world was destroyed, a new world would be born, a world of peace and love, and the sun's bright daughter will outshine her mother.

Deity Blurb 01 - Sunna
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sunna/Sól is the heathen goddess of the Sun. She is both the Sun incarnate and the charioteer of the Sun.
Sunna's brother, Máni, guides the moon.
Her origins, in the myths, are disputed. Snorri writes that she and Máni were born of a human man named Mundilfæri, who in his pride named them after the Sun and Moon. When the Æsir heard of this they took the children and set them up in the sky to drive the Sun and Moon until Ragnarök. In the Völuspa, it is said at the beginning of the creation of the cosmos that Sunna and Máni did not yet know their roles.
In my personal experience and understanding of Sunna, she is neither Æsir nor Jötunn, nor is she Human or Vanir. She is ancient and powerful, and was given her role by the gods, but she is not in their service nor commanded by them. She is of her own right.
Offerings to Sunna may include:
burnt offerings
sun water
dandelions, sunflowers, yellow roses
wheel or round shaped objects
white or yellow sand
music
paintings/drawings
poetry
One may decorate an alter to Sunna with yellow, red, orange, or white candles and ribbons, buttons, solar herbs, an open bowl visible to the Sun, a sun wheel or idol, tiger's eye, sunstone, amber, and/or citrine.
Devotional acts to Sunna may be to sunbathe, take afternoon walks, wear sun themed jewelry and warm colored clothes, live brightly full of warmth and passion.
Spellwork calling on Sunna could specialize in abundance, positivity, confidence, energy, and perhaps healing.
Hail Sól!

In the western world, the sun is quite often depicted as masculine, accompanied by the feminine moon, often the sun god’s sister or wife. One of the most famous of these gods is Apollo, known for his unlucky love affairs, his archery skill, and his musical ability. But while the sun may often be seen as male, this is not always the case, and there are many goddesses around the world known for their connection to the sun.
Áine
An Irish Goddess or fairy, Áine is said to have many attributes including love, fertility and summer. One of these attributes is the sun. She is said to make her home in Cnoc Áine, or Knockainy a hill located near a village of the same name in the Irish county of Limerick. She is said to show herself on this hill at midsummer and will sometimes take on the form of a red mare who is too swift to ever be caught.
Many of the legends surrounding Áine involve her laying with mortal men and conceiving children – sometimes willingly and sometimes unwillingly. Her son Eogan was said to be the result of her rape by the human king Ailill, in retaliation for which Áine is said to have bitten off the king’s ear. This is said to have lost him his kingdom as an old law of the time stated that a king must be unblemished, which Ailill no longer was.

steeples my fingers. what if lif, miss favored daughter of the mother goddess sunna, was the one who waged war. what if lif became so enraged and resentful of the mortals who did not respect the land and creatures within it despite her efforts. she created elves, nymphs, dragons, and likely others to help foster love for the wilds she had so carefully nurtured, but rather than listen, the mortals squabbled. they killed as they pleased. they destroyed lands to hurt each other. they forced her children back to the forests or into hiding, and lif grew bitter -- even more so as her brother sjor was banished to the sea for his own anger towards the mortals who caused famine among his children of the sea.
so much death and suffering, yet sunna did nothing. lif would not be like her mother. she would act.
i haven't decided on all of the deities who side with each goddess, but i do think it's interesting to have the two creation goddesses fight each other! tbh, only lif could really be counted as sunna's equal ( or at least close to it ); i think the major difference between them is that sunna believed in limiting interactions between deities and mortals to avoid disaster, whereas lif believed deities should play a somewhat active role in the mortals' lives. she wanted to act as an actual parent, in a way. she wanted to protect her children and fight their battles, but sunna believed that would only make matters worse down the line.
she was kinda right. involving themselves and involving mortals in their affairs only led to more bloodshed and destruction. lif's actions and the resulting war are why none of the gods reside in the mortal realm ( except for sjor, but no one knows about him save for the merfolk ) and why the gods do not often grant miracles or meddle as they used to. in order for their children to flourish, they let go and allow them their independence.
there's!! a lot for me to think about now that i have a more solid idea of what " the great war " was really about and who started it!! i'm so excited y'all :' ))

NAKSHATRAS AS GODDESSES
1/27
🐎ASHWINI🐎
DISCLAIMER: This is based solely on my research and the patterns that I saw. I can't promise that I'm gonna be sure in all the coorelations, but I'm going to attribute each nakshatra a goddess that I think fits it the closest. If you're dissapointed, to make up for it, I'm going to list some other deities in the end that I think also fit the nakshatra. Don't come for me if you think I'm wrong, be respectful in the comments if you think so and have fun 🤍
While researching, at first it was obvious that no deity was as perfect for Ashwini as Ashwini Kumaras themselves. I still tried to search for a Goddess that would be most similar to this nakshatra's energies and I kid you not, I've found the exact goddess I was looking for. Definitely was not expecting this.
Saule
Pronounced "sow-lay"
Tumblr media
Pantheon: Lithuanian
Name meaning: The sun
Main associations: The Sun, fertility, healing, helping women and children, red apple, gold.
Symbols: The Sun, apples, colors gold and red.
The Baltic people believed the Sun to be a disc, dancing and rolling around. Saule is the literal representation of the sun, who, not unlike the Greek god Helios, rides a chariot pulled by two horses. The horses are mostly described as white and sometimes golden, and they're called, believe it or not, the Asviniai. It seems that the word has an Indo-European root.
Tumblr media
The deities assigned to Ashwini are Ashwini Kumaras_twin horsemen, depicted as young, healthy and handsome men who can heal people.
Tumblr media
Like their power, Saule is associated with healing, regeneration and also fertility. She rides in her copper-wheeled carriage with her trusted horses, flying through the sky every day, bringing light and warmth to Earth. In regards to her appearance, she's frequently depicted with long golden hair, as well as being associated with gold and amber in general. She's described as being dressed in golden silk. Being the goddess of health and vitality, she had horses that would never tire nor sweat.
At night Saule would bathe her horses and go to the underworld. She was married to the moon god Menesis. Their first child was Earth, then followed other children: the Stars. It's said that her husband was very carefree, sometimes sneaking out of their castle in his moon carriage, thus leaving the world to darkness. Despite having a husband, ultimately, Saule is a sovereign and independent goddess.
As the setting sun, Saule is known as the falling red apple, a ring or a crown. She's strongly associated with the color red, and also apples and apple trees. Other plants associated with her are daisies, sunflowers, roses and linden.
Saule is honored every year at summer solstice.
Tumblr media
I want to talk a little about why I coorelated her to Ashwini but first, I'll talk about the goddess extremely similar to her- Norse goddess Sol/ Sunna. She's also associated with the sun, healing, regeneration and has a chariot pulled by two horses, one of which is called Allsvinn (very fast), the other is called Arvak (early rising). Also, one of her many names literally means "Gold".
I think the association of these goddesses with Ashwini kumaras is clear, but I chose the Baltic goddess saule as to me the Baltic culture is more similar to Ashwini's energies than the Norse (You'll definitely see Norse goddesses in this series tho). Baltic people also have gods which are basically their equivalent of Ashwini Kumaras, twin horsemen gods called Ašvieniai. It's crazy to me that two cultures that you wouldn't think have anything in common basically share a deity.
Other deities that can be associated with Ashwini other than Saule:
Sunna- Norse goddess of the Sun, healing and fertility.
Ašvieniai- Baltic twin horsemen gods who have a gift of healing
Rhiannon- Celtic goddess known as "The Horse Queen", goddess of movement, leadership, the night, the moon and death.
Epona- Celtic goddess most strongly linked to horses (and you can tell by her name)
That's it for Ashwini🤍❤ I love my horse- people😅🤍 I genuinely do, there's no one like you guys, you are very healing and refreshing to be around. Keep going 🐎🐎
Don't forget to comment if u liked this or you can interact in any way .

saw something that unfortunately reminded me how widespread this idea was, so here is a refresher:
masculine sun and feminine moon symbolism is not universal across human cultures, not even within a given continent or subcontinent.
feminine solar* deities or deity-like figures include: Amaterasu (Japanese), Arinniti (Hittite), Eki (Basque), Mārīcī (Buddhism), Saulė (Baltic), Shapash (Canaanite), Siqiniq (Inuit), Sól/Sunna (Norse/Germanic), Tokapcup-kamuy (Ainu), Yhi (Kamilaroi), and in Egypt alone you've got Bastet, Hathor, Raet, Sekhmet....
masculine lunar deities or deity-like figures include: Bahloo (Kamilaroi) Chandra (Hindu), Kunnecup-kamuy (Ainu), Máni (Norse), Mėnulis/Mēness (Baltic), Nanna/Sīn (Mesopotamian), Taqqiq (inuit), Tēcciztēcatl (Aztec), Tsukuyomi (Japan), Yarikh (Amorite/Ugaritic) and again with Egypt there's Iah, Khonsu, Thoth....
*not including the huge number of dawn goddesses across regions descended from proto-indo-european cultures
(representations throughout history and across regions vary; several of these deities have been represented as both male and female or left ambiguous/androgynous, but i went with their most common identification in the present day)

Nobody asked me about being pedantic about religion in horror movies but something that bothers me is in Midsommar (I love that movie) where the cult leader talks about "our father the sun" you are in Sweden, you have runes everywhere, the sun is grammatically feminine in Germanic languages, your sun is a goddess (Sunna or Sol) but I guess Ari Aster was too busy staring at naked old ladies (seriously they're in Hereditary too sir is this some sort of fetish?) to get this basic fact right

Hail Sunna! hail the Shining Goddess,
who pulls her chariot of the Sun
so that we may reckon the years.
Hail Sunna! hail Sköll's Chase,
who even with a wolf biting at her heels
does not falter in her duty to bring light
and guide each day.

I’m currently working on doodles for some Tangled inspired oc! They’re inspired/twisted from Mother Gothel, the Sundrop Flower, and the Moon Opal.
Names in progress are
Marius for Mother Gothel. If anyone has any surname suggestions please let me know! I chose Marius I think because I was reading the vampire chronicles again and I just liked the name?? I don’t quite remember 😅
Sunna Blumen for the sundrop flower. Sunna comes from the old high German word for “Sun” and is one name for the Germanic sun goddess (also called “Sól” in Norse mythology). I chose Blumen as the last name because it means flower in German.
Máni Stein for the moon opal. Máni comes from the name of the Germanic moon god by the same name and Stein is the German word for stone so it follows the same pattern as Sunna.
I imagine Sunna and Máni are either step-siblings or adoptive siblings, with Sunna being a “diurnal fae” or a daylight fae while Máni is a nocturnal fae. They seemingly get along with each other, though they don’t work together and don’t often talk about the other. Many don’t know that they’re siblings but it’s more because they don’t feel a need to talk about their personal lives to their students.
