oooh there are so many games from my childhood (and more recent ones) that i'd love to mention

the first one i can remember is rayman. i love the first three games, especially 2 and 3. i have so many great memories connected to these games, and i wish 3d rayman made a comeback. after the mario and rabbids dlc, and the recent netflix show, i'm a little more hopeful about that

zoo tycoon 2 is also one of my favorite childhood games, alongside two other, far more obscure zoo games: marine park empire and wildlife park 2. i've always loved zoo games, i think it started with wlp2, it was sold as a part of a collection of animal related games. a similar one was jurassic park operation genesis - similar premise, except it's based around creating a jurassic park. the newest game in this genre is planet zoo, and i like it, but it can get very overwhelming with all of the modular building. it's time consuming and requires a lot of creativity, which isn't something i usually look for when i want to wind down and play something

another childhood series is the sims. the sims 2 specifically, though i also have many fond memories of the sims 3 (though i remember it more for the absurd loading times hahaha). while i like the sims 4, i find myself returning more to the sims 2 these days. it's very dated in some areas, but it offers a much deeper experience which i appreciate. and the lore can get batshit crazy sometimes which is great in on itself

i remember playing a lot of spore, especially the creature stage since i didn't understand the civilization and space stages at that point. i do enjoy them now, especially the latter, though i've never reached the ending of that one. i guess i just like exploring and trading with different planets too much

from some more modern games, i suppose, minecraft is one i like a lot. i started playing a few years after it's official release, and i remember starting with a pirated copy from a likely very sussy launcher. these days i usually just play it with friends from time to time

another series i'm a big fan of is the horizon series. horizon zero dawn and forbidden west. i know many people consider their gameplay nothing spectacular, but it's a big comfort game for me, especially the sequel. and the music, god the music in the second game is incredible

i mentioned assassin's creed, so i guess i'll talk about the series a bit. my favorite game is probably unity, i even named one of my cats after the protagonist. but i also love assassin's creed 2 and origins, both are great games. not too happy with the direction the series took, though, they feel too bloated and unfocused

i don't play that many multiplayer games these days, but team fortress 2 and (unfortunately) overwatch are my favorites. i like team games, even if they're often very frustrating. but the cooperation aspect generally really appeals to me

other games i can think of are patapon, subnautica, the yakuza series, both ori games, bugsnax and stardew valley

dang this is far longer than i thought it would be, but it's too difficult for me to pick one or two favorites hahah

also, i've heard about the stalker games before, though i've never played them myself. not too big on horror games haha

S tier - Wizard101, BUGSNAX BUGSNAX BUGSNAX BUGSNAX, Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney crossover game, Subnautica, Undertale/Deltarune, Ace Attorney series. Games that haunt my brain constantly. I could do individual tier lists about things in these games because I love them so much.

A tier - Professor Layton series, Legend of Zelda series, Rusty Lake series, Splatoon 3, Filament, Oneshot, Smile For Me, Among Us genuinely, Portal 2, The Stanley Parable. Games I would absolutely recommend but it does take prompting for me to get into hyperfixate mode, otherwise sometimes I forget about them

B tier - Wobbledogs, Powerwash Sim, I Was A Teenage Exocolonist, Rhythm Doctor, Potion Craft, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing. One of these games is not like the others asiduHASLIUDH Basically this is the tier for chill games I like playing in my free time. Except for Exocolonist. Which is very much not chill and terrifies me every day.

Heya! Joshua originally made us an introduction but it was pretty spontaneous and left out a few important things so we're going to redo it!

First off, hi! We're The Labradorite System and this is our main blog! It's run by most of us who front, but only some of us will make original posts and interact and that kinda stuff!

Currently we're mainly posting about Stardew Valley, our current hyperfixation, but we still post about other things! Namely, you'll probably see content of Half Life, Portal, hlvrai and some other odds and ends! There are a few things only specific people post - Joshua posts about Bugsnax (though we haven't played it, he likes the creatures and thinks they're cute), Tommy posts about science when it feels comfortable and Adrian will sometimes do little "frog assignments" for friends or pretty much anyone that asks for them

Our DNI is fairly standard, don't be a bigot and you're probably chill to interact

Feel free to tell us if you need something tagged, we'll tag just about anything

First of all, names and pronouns of people you'll interact with most often as well as some important details

Our host, Tommy, uses it/its or any pronouns. There's quite a bit I could say about them, but she prefers talking about herself or letting people find out themselves. Although, I will say that, regarding pronouns, Tommy prefers them to be switched up if you aren't only going to use it/its

Bubby is a frequent fronter, he uses he/him pronouns. Bubby prefers to type with proper grammar and punctuation - it doesn't mean he's mad at you, he just prefers it that way

Joshua is someone you'll also see quite often, Joshua uses he/him or sticker/stickers. Stickers nickname is Joshie, so you'll see us and people who know us call him that.

Adrian pops up pretty often, Adrian's pronouns are it/its, they/them or he/him. Adrian also posts about frogs/assigns frogs to people who ask and is the main person you may see post about Slime Rancher.

Benrey doesn't use tumblr too much these days, I won't tell you why as it's his own business, but you may see Ben around here too. Benrey uses he/him, they/them, game/gameboy or anything other than she/her. Benrey also tends to have "uhhhh" between words or sentences, depending. With or without the e is okay, game doesn't care whether you say "benrey" or "benry". You'll also see us call him Ben and Joshua or Tommy call him Benny

Lastly, Haley! She's fairly new, but also fronts often and uses the blog. Haley uses she/her or pink/pinks and may add other pronouns. She almost always has a "<3" or some other type of heart after/in between what she says

✨ How often do you draw?

I usually draw something every few days. Though a majority of it doesn't see the light of social media, either because I want to clean it up or I am too embarassed to post it kjsdfkjshd (I have. 6 sketch canvases FILLED with bugsnax art/sketch comics and I've only posted the content of I think 2 of them and that's ALL YOU'LL GET)

Also depends on energy levels and if I have ideas to do, it's easier to sit in a discord call and zone out and smash out a load of doodles and somedays I'll just slip into some bizzare brain zone and shit out an animation in 3 days and then I'll have a few days where I don't even want to Look at my tablet lmao

100% fandom stuff. I have a bunch of my own characters but I've lost interest in drawing them, there was a long period of time in uni where I would exclusively draw my own characters. And then I was introduced to Stardew valley in like 2017 and it's been Fandom stuff ever since kjsdhfkdshf

A part of my dream was that ppl were making custom backpacks for some challenge thingy

It was by the country side and it was minecraft and stardew valley combined

And most ppl did Bugsnax and we then had to put up somebody else's bag that we liked to out clothing hanger and be like

YES THIS ONE O WANT THIS ONE TO WIN

And like 4 of them had Floofty art on them and I recognized at least 2 artists from here

We also found a bootycheek rat in the water with Chandlo and some dream person

And he had to get ip the stairs by being stretched like a png in an art program like you could see the cursor and everything

“3. Rant. Just do it.“ - The Other Anon

OKAY HERE WE GO. I GOT ANOTHER THING TO RANT ABOUT. It took me time to get the topic and info dumping / rambling urges for something that I was comfortable posting here. So anyways

Our system has a bit of a thing with gaming and between our system, we have a pretty wide taste that includes a lot of things other than MMORPGs and those multiplayer stuff (Battlefield and COD); so we have like everything from Stardew and Harvest Moon, to Souls-borne, to Management Simulators, to Stealth Games, to Casual Garden / Plant / Animal Sims to Visual Novels to RPGs to some Horror to Minecraft and all that.

Me, Ray, and another part we don’t talk about here really take an affinity to gaming. I typically prefer more story-driven, management games, and more casual farming games. Ray on prefers a lot more AAA action titles. You know those games you bank hours and hours into and BARELY finish the main story - yeah those, I can’t play those for the life of me XD

But anyways, I usually REALLY love me some Bugsnax (lowkey a slight obsession lately), Stardew Valley, Pokemon, Harvest Moon, Hakuoki, Amnesia: Memories (even though they have a problematic “DID character”, its a guilty nostalgic like), and all that but like....

My absolute favorite is probably Bloodborne. A lot of the other ones have a nostalgic pull and/or I REALLY like them, but I think at this point Bloodborne and similar games have become my genuine favorite genre even though it stands out because firstly, they tend to have legit music, secondly, they tend to have legit aesthetic, and thirdly, they are so frustrating and well managed in combat that it is so much fun to just analyze it all and try to figure out the best way to go about doing things.

So like, lets start with Bloodborne in this - because believe it or not the original intent of this rant was not it, but I really do have to establish this. 

Reason Bloodborne is Awesome, lets go

One, the story - if you can follow it - is really interesting and well scattered, but I very very much particularly love the theme / question / moral of “Would you rather return to a world blissfully unaware of all the horrors you have seen and learned and live innocently unaware” or “Live in the horrors and be aware of the rest of eternity but at least you know the truth” cause honest to god, if that aint a fucking mood I don’t know what is. 

Secondly, GOD do they have the aesthetic down on point. Theres another ask below this asking about my aesthetic, and part of that answer is just fucking Bloodborne now. Like at one point I went “Man I would look cool in Bloodborne aesthetic clothing and shit” and I guess I accidentally ended up with bloodborne armor in the inner world and at first I didn’t know how to revert back to whatever I was wearing (I don’t even remember at this point) and I was like “Uhhh” but HONESTLY I don’t want to change it? I have not found something that is such a solid aesthetic that I love that makes me feel cooler when I’m running around in the inner world so why drop it? And also lowkey now I want to actually adopt that into my IRL life if I ever get the time and money so..??? I mean I’ll go more into that on the aesthetics post but dude look

Okay and then say all of that is just average or not selling you. Okay okay thats fine.

Like there is also how absolutely frustrating, meticulous and well planned the game is yeah yeah we all know that its Souls-borne genre, but sure - give that number three as a reason.

But number four, oh god NUMBER FOUR. I don’t know how much this has been made apparent on our blog, but our system is VERY in love with music as an art. We were raised with musical instruments (both older siblings played instruments from elementary to highschool, we still continue into college), growing up we were exposed to a lot of instrumental music, and we developed an EXTREME reliance on music to deal with both our abusive family / trauma, to help regulate our own mind, emotions and all, and to also deal with how uncomfortable silence is for us. 

So music has been a HUGE developmental factor in our life and we REALLY love and appreciate it and its sometimes painful. But the composition of Bloodborne music - it is BEYOND words for me. I could probably write pages and pages of appreciation for how masterly crafted, perfect and well put together almost EVERY SINGLE piece of the game is and how - after years of listening to them on repeat - I can still find new aspects of it and a new technique or aspect I hadn’t noticed or thought much about to still adore.

I legitamently have screamed over how certain parts just click together perfectly. I can get so much positive overflowing joy and excitement from how well the parts interact and how perfectly dramatic the music flows and how active and physical the experience is that I feel the need to SCREAM internally and sometimes externally. 

I obsess over orchestral music and OSTS and film music and trailer music and video game music and all of that and I have to say with almost complete confidence that I’m pretty sure Bloodborne is - in my opinion - one of the best crafted orchestrated units.

Even from my own source, one that I love, have they only recently been able to produce a SINGLE track that echoes similarly in the intensity and amazement that I would consider it around par.

I will DIE internally everytime I hear it and sometimes I have actually had to turn it off because it was TOO overstimulating to listen to because of how much UGH it brings me. 

More than it is fun to play, Bloodborne is AMAZING to listen to and I can’t state that enough ugh XD

But anyways, before I go on THAT too much, I love Bloodborne. Joke is that as a fictive it is my “second source” even though it makes no sense. I have adopted it, I have claimed it. I love it and I will die for Bloodborne

So LATELY I’ve started a new game I just bought called Code: Vein and its apparently Anime Bloodborne or something like that and so far its really legit and while the music will never compare to Bloodborne - at least from what I’ve seen - I’ve REALLY been enjoying it and its music isn’t half bad itself

It also hilariously talks about “hearts” and loosing them and also memory issues and I’m dying cause they legitamently took Bloodborne’s Aesthetic, put anime on it, gave it a dark story with memories and indepth characters and served it on a platter for me?

And like dude I love games that comment on memory and emotions and stuff like that and I love the aesthetic and that I can kind of look like myself AND wear cool clothes like? 

Man I’m enjoying it and I’m realizing that Souls-borne is probably my favorite genre officially and I’m embracing it. Good game play, good aesthetics, good fighting, and good stories. I love it.

why does console generational discourse bring out the absolute worst humans

I have an xbox one and plan to buy a ps4 and switch when I have the financial ability to. when I was little I had a nintendo 64 and a ps1 for a brief period of time. but I spent my formative years, my adolescence, with a gamecube and a ps2. then I briefly had a ps3. and when I was an older teenager I had an xbox 360.

the nes/5200/colecovision began the 90s and modern video gaming as we know it today

Mario. Zelda. Kirby. Metroid. Contra. Castlevania. Earthbound. these are the games that Gen X played. this is the gen x console generation.

the genesis/commodore/7800/snes capped off the 80s and ushered in the 90s

I can guarantee even some millennials don’t remember some of these but that’s probably because the 7800 and commodore weren’t that great. but everyone knows the super nintendo and sonic. no matter how old you are. toddlers today know about the super nintendo and sonic. but these is still the console generation that is specifically associated with millennials.

the 64/jaguar/saturn/ps1/3d0/amiga/neogeo in the 90s

if you’ve never heard of half of these you’re not a fucking millenial. atari sega commodore and SNK haven’t really made a console since then and it’s because they weren’t great consoles with good libraries and that’s why they fell into obscurity and failure. but at the time they were beloved, and still are. sega consoles were the lifeblood of millennials, not zillenials. and so was 3d Mario, 3d Zelda, goldeneye, donkey kong, banjo, resident evil, silent hill, metal gear solid, symphony of the night, final fantasy 7, crash, spyro… yes you’ve probably played these if you’re a zillenial or zoomer but that’s because these games are all classics beloved by everyone but in these cases you’re an adult or teen going back in time. you were not a literal actual child who remembered a time when these games didn’t exist. this is the console generation that is associated with millennials and zillenials.

dreamcast the awkward one in the late 90s, rip, only remembered by millennials and the lucky few zillenials who had parents or older siblings who had them

ps2/gamecube/xbox1 in 2000

the older half of zillenials and some millennials who happened to have money and like video games who bought these as adults but didn’t spend their childhoods with them, had these. smash, halo, kotor, half life 2, god of war, okami, shadow of the colossus, the wind waker, games that NEWSFLASH, EVERYONE LOVES REGARDLESS OF WHAT GENERATION THEY’RE FROM. literally everybody had one of these. but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re still specifically associated with zillenials because it came out during our childhood. not millennials. zillenials.

ps3/xbox360/wii in the mid-2000s and early 2010s

the younger half of zillenials grew up with skyrim, bioshock, modern warfare, resident evil 4 HD, all classics nowadays but at the time they were all so far beyond technological breakthroughs they blew everyone’s mind. and zoomers were all either a) not alive or b) in diapers for the first half, and actual children in the second half. which means that this is the console generation that is most associated with them. not the prior: this one. not millennials.

wiiU/ps4/xboxOne/switch in the mid to late 2010s

the transition between zillenial and gen z is a blurred line but it takes place in the 2010s so the older gen z and/or gen z with older siblings and the younger zillenial and/or zillenial with younger siblings are gonna be the ones most associated with bloodborne, breath of the wild, splatoon, overwatch, and stardew valley. except zillenials and millennials also play those games. fucking oops.

ps5/xbox X in the 2020s

the generation after gen z is gonna grow up in 2020 and on, so the ps5/xbox X is going to be mostly associated with them because they’re the ones growing up in a world where elden ring, bugsnax, and starfield have always existed

the buffer generation between millenial and zoomer is a separate entity with some overlap, and until you get that through your thick fucking skull there’s no point being an insufferable ass to content creators online because your personal definition of what generation you identify as is different than their definition, besides being a dick.

twofer because sleep schedule madness

Woken up at noon by dad, left at 2something to go driving for a couple hours to practice parallel parking, running over lots of cones in the process because they were too short for us to see. Stopped practice early so we could go to the hardware store to pick up hooks so my sister can set up a hammock, and went grocery shopping where it was VERY CROWDED and gave me a little headache, partially from chewing gum too long. We got home and my dad started cooking dinner on the grill and I helped by making stuffed mushrooms which turned out amazing :) we had asparagus and mushrooms and scallops and burgers and pork chops and hot dogs and pasta salad and potato salad oh my. My friend dropped by to pick up the bear I made them, but first they went grocery shopping and lost their wallet lol. Afterwards I hung out for a bit and accidentally fell asleep. I woke up for half a second when my dad came in to turn off my light, and didn’t wake up again until 1am or so. My dreams were centered around a mechanic of matching rhythms and events to move time forward or something, idk. But since I went to bed early and just now woke up when I would normally start thinking about going to sleep, I’m afraid I’ve fucked up my sleep schedule and won’t be able to go back to sleep tonight. I’m gonna try tho. (all that was typed at 1 am, its now midnight the next night) so no I did NOT go back to sleep. instead I watched tiktoks and drew Bugsnax but mostly some random gemsonas. I washed the sun rise and heard my mom come home from morning shift, but eventually my sister got up and started her day so I got up too. I felt just a little sick, just like the embodiment of sour milk, and my head spun just a little bit as I walked down the hall. but I ate a bagel and hung out and was fine. there was freezing rain outside so all the trees had little icicles on them so I couldn't go outside with my cat, and I couldn't go driving with my dad. I finfished up the tiktok and hung out, played some stardew valley, ya know. I talked with my mom for a little bit and we ate together and I struggled to not eat the rest of the girl scout cookies dad bought yesterday. I was just chilling in my room when my sister walked in with a letter from ball state talking about tuition costs, and I made the mistake of showing my dad which stressed him out on his day off which I feel kinda bad about. but then he kept giving me lists of stuff to do and kept telling me; in the kitchen, in the living room, standing in my doorway- it sucked. instead of doing something productive I listened to tally hall and put on 5 asmr videos at once to block out everything I possibly could and I just laid like that for a while until I could move again. my brother texted me and i watched a video about the dorm I'm staying in and DAMN IT LOOKS SO NICE?? its a new building with fully stocked maker spaces and a kitchen and semi-private bathrooms and communal spaces that remind me of my high school and a really clean and tidy laundry room. I think I'll like living there, but tbh lately I've been stressed and hesitant about college. I know it’ll be a great time and I'll learn a lot but I cant help it. idk man. but I did spend some time checking off stuff for the to-do list they sent in the mail. I don't understand the proxy but I promise I'll do it soon. I also set up a time/date for my drivers license test which I do not feel ready for AT ALL but hey we still have a week and a halfish. I also need to tally up my driving hours which is hard because I didn't consistently write them down :x oops. I'm pretty dang sure I have enough, I just have to fudge the exact times. that's another thing I was supposed to do today. ugh god I'm thinking too much about college tuition. maybe if I can funnel my energy away from stardew and back into fursuit making, I can make some decent money off of that. I just need to order a couple furs but the long white shag is out of stock right now. it’s never in stock tho which fuckin sucks. bleh I have too many things happening at once, and on top of all this I feel like a lazy shithead disappointment of a child because I just bum around the house all the time while all my friends are working full time or doing school or both and fhdgfdsflgjs shit sucks :( I think I'll get some good pictures of my brown puffy paws and try to pawn them off, maybe sell one of my mostly-finished fursuit heads as a fixer upper and throw in her unfinished paw and the fabric I used for it if I can find it. for now I just dont want to think about it and play stardew valley or something instead. I was gonna say maybe I’ll play Webkinz but it brings me a little sense of dread because I feel bad for not playing daily but when I do it feels like a chore. ughhhhh why do I have to throw myself into things 100% for a while and then give up on them? oh right its the mental illness. fuck. maybe some of this is just from being awake for almost 24 hours now. but does it even count if most of that time is laying in bed concerting energy anyway? I found out during highschoolI can pull an all nighter mostly unscathed as long as I'm laying down in bed while I do it. Ifeel guilty about not using my desk or cleaning my room or having mom spend all this time money and effort to try and make my room nice but instead I still do everything in bed. fuck. I wished I could have talked with my friend about feeling left behind and unproductive since school let out but it turns out she’s been working full time so I really am a slacker and dragging behind everyone else. why the fuck am I like this I hate it here why do I have to go through life with unmedicated adhd. godamnit this is all gonna be irrelevant in like 5 minuted when I fuck off and watch youtube to forget about it anyway so who cares.
