currently watching supernatural for the first time ever and now i get why so many people like to talk about cas' love for dean. to see it slowly progress from "hey here's this angel who's fascinated with this human" to "this angel of the lord fell and became mortal for this human twice and has done everything he can to protect him and WILL do so much more for him" IS SO??? INSANE??????

imagine never knowing what love is for billions of years and then suddenly getting to know what it feels like. imagine loving someone so much you start to love the things, the people, that they love. imagine you loving them is the best thing to have ever happened to you and you didn't really seek out for any reciprocation, you just wanted to love them a little bit longer.

it was insane—and i cannot stress this enough—insane!!!!!! the way my brain has flipped a switch and is now in full lokius mode after just one episode. they didn’t have to have mobius putting his hands all over loki they didn’t have to have loki say if i don’t make it back they didn’t have to have cute little banter scenes between them they didn’t have to have mobius risk his life to save loki they didn’t have to have mobius say give him more time when loki had just told him that all he wanted from sylvie was time no not at all

well, I have finally decided to do a supernatural rewatch, but in light of... well, everything, I'm going to be doing it in a really weird way? I want to watch the best parts last so that that's what I'm left with when I finish, which means I'm going to be watching the first five seasons after I watch... everything else, and also since the last four seasons are the worst of the lot, that's what I'm going to be watching first, and since fifteen seasons of around 20 episodes each is way, way too much, I'm only going to be watching the episodes that sound most interesting to me (though s1-s5 and s11 I'll watch in full bc those are the only ones where the overarching plot is interesting to me)

Also I'm going to be posting my thoughts on all the episodes to this blog because why the hell not. (Also it's fucking Supernatural, I don't give a shit about episode or plot spoilers at this point. You have been warned.)

Watchlist order: s12-s15 selected episodes (the worst of the lot), s6-s10 selected episodes (better, but still not great), s11 in full (bc it's the only thing that actually feels like a proper continuation of the themes/style of early SPN), and s1-s5 in full (bc this is the part where SPN was actually good)

also post s12 finale, are u noticign a theme here yet? anyway crowley does a few tricks that end up with him surviving the ritual in the s12 finale but it leaves him comatose for a bit. he and dean end up sharing a body in a temporary situation that ends up being not-so-temporary. endgame deancascrowley, also a+ crowley characterization

im also writing a ghost crowley au post s12 but that's not goign to be done for a longgggggg time. anyway. enjoy these fucked up idiots

It’s time for a lunch break and since SPNWIN is now uploaded, I’m going to write down my thoughts! Spoilers and some thoughts about fanfic, under the cut.

I still feel Dean sounds slightly different, like he lived in a different place for a while and picked up the hints of an accent. But I might be totally off. It’s normal that people sound differently when they’re talking and when they’re narrating something, especially something that was written down. It might just be that.

John’s already on his way to being an “obsessive bastard” (Dean’s words) while Lata and Carlos are trying to show him ways to work through the underlying issue of his aggressive behaviour. I think he does have the capacity to break out of it, at least he talks to Mary about it and he asks Lata for help. But things – the hunt – get in the way. So I suppose, like with Dean and Sam who are prone to anger and obsession, there’s always something that keeps him from figuring out a better path.

A statue of Michael in Mary’s parents’ office? It’s pretty conspicuous, as it doesn’t seem to fit the rest of the Campbell interior decorating style. Two times so far (that I’ve been aware of) we’ve seen Michael. Hm hm.

“Hunt’s over. You get to rest.” Did get me a bit. ;w; It does fit itself into the idea that the only rest a hunter gets is when the hunt is over – and for many hunters it’s not over until they get killed. Tracy tried to get out -for the wrong reasons – and has to go back. Mary wants out but if this follows SPN’s flashback episodes, then she’s going to get out because her family is dead and she had to make a deal to get John back. It’s tragic how we see Mary’s hope being set upon getting out (finishing school, going to college) and knowing what the future holds in store for her.

Though I did find it interesting that her plans for the future are school and college, whereas flashback Mary in SPN seemed to be focused on marrying and having a family. These things are of course not mutually exclusive but one could read the angelic meddling into it. Because angels don’t care whether she gets an education, they care about getting her settled with John so that she can give birth to Dean and Sam.

By the way, the presence of certain phrases we’ve heard before (in SPN) raises my alarm bells X’D Cute parallels or warning signs??

Both Lata and Carlos were of course also great. I hope Carlos gets out, buys Tracy’s farm and plants a lot of weed. :P

One last comment: I kept thinking about S12 Mary. How when she left the boys, she went to look for her old contacts and friends, who were mostly dead. Which then led me to think about a fic in which she does find Lata and Carlos. Which then made me wonder about whether we are going to be seeing SPNWIN elements in regular fanfic? I haven’t had time to read fics in a while so I can’t say! But I’ve been thinking about writing an AU set in the 90s and maybe it would make sense for Lata and Carlos to be around as family friends? So there’s not just uncle Bobby and aunt Ellen, but also uncle Carlos (though not sure he would enjoy being called uncle) and aunt Lata?

I've been really curious, seeing as you clearly finished season 10, did you start watching s11 of spn or did you decide it wasn't worth it? do you think you're gonna watch through the last seasons of the show?

i am planning to finish up at least s11. technically, i've seen thru 11x03 and then i jumped ahead to 11x23, which is a surprisingly wild finale that i'm very curious to see how it plays with the context of the rest of the season, because i definitely have Thoughts about the Chuck & Amara resolution but want to actually see the rest of it before leaping to conclusions.

after that... i'm not sure. i can intellectualize it all i want (and will probably keep doing so lol), but what it really comes down to with later seasons is i'm just not enjoying them as i do early ones. i watched 11x03 last night and it was... an ok episode of a TV show. i watch a Kripke era ep and it's, oh hello Sam & Dean & messed up family dramas 🥰 i still think there's plenty for me to engage with abt the show without later seasons - i've really been enjoying thinking thru my Mark meta, and then i keep talking abt fic and would like to actually buckle down to finish my Dean & Bela in Hell AU, plus some other shorter fics i've been working on. that's much more fun for me than plodding my way thru a tv show.

on the other hand, given all that i've heard / seen secondhand about later seasons (s12 - s15), my curiosity might get the best of me, if only to watch these seasons for myself and decide what i think of them, fandom echo chambers be damned. knowing spoilers for later seasons, plus the finale, i just suspect i won't enjoy the these seasons very much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ as much as i do think the Kripke era is objectively better written, the show changing into something i don't like doesn't make it badly written, per se, and there's a lot of wisdom in knowing when to drop a tv show / book series / etc. if it's not giving you what you'd like. sometimes if it sucks... real winners quit :)
