several thoughts(tm) on dean’s bar-owning hallucination/dream from when michael was possessing him:
first of all, obviously all the details of this incarnation of pamela are basically a parallel to cas, making her as close as she could be to cas without being cas. the “to hell and back” t-shirt and the wings necklace are incredibly on the nose. but i also wanna add that the fact that this manifestation is pamela in the first place is a parallel to cas.
first, it doesn’t really make sense for it to be pamela at the time of this series. we hadn’t seen pamela for maybe eight seasons, and she died in season 5(?), so she wasn’t exactly relevant to the series at this time. but i think it was her of all people because she was dean’s first impression of cas. it was pamela who reached to cas in the séance and was the first in the whole series to speak his name, and it was the image of pamela finding castiel that is dean’s first time ever experience of him.
also, on the cas stand in being a woman: aside from the fact that the cw is very obviously homophobic, i prefer to think that it’s dean’s internalised homophobia. this version of pamela is as close to cas as she could be, but she’s just not a man.
thirdly and finally, there’s the repeated mantra of sam and cas being on a hunt and that they are supposed to be back tomorrow. or something. and it just kinda hurts that in dean’s ideal world, cas is coming back to him. cas is always coming home.

while i firmly believe that choosing to view the writers’ continuity issues as chuck-fuckery is just a way to dissuade them from being bad at their jobs , i do think it still lends pretty well to the overall trapped-in-narrative horror that spn was gunning for. like, how many times has Cas been randomly weakened below his actual capabilities to allow for some plot necessity? how many times have sam and dean conveniently forgotten different spells or weapons that would make their current crisis an easy fix, or just seemingly not processed what someone else has told them?
how often has jack become randomly unstable or unable to do certain things (cough resurrect Mary). or even how each of the guys will randomly disappear from an episode when they aren’t needed? what about every side character that fucked off after a plot was done, that would be lucky enough for an offscreen mention to acknowledge their existence?
yeah yeah it’s poor seasonally rotted writer’s faults, but let’s pretend spn is a good solid show for a minute and think. Chuck can literally make them weak and helpless or uncontrollably powerful on a fucking whim. He can erase things from their memories, erase parts of their lives even, and straight up remove people entirely if he feels like it. it’s like the plot armor episode but worse, because this isn’t just about their plot armor. it’s their memory, their lives, their own free will being fucked with. Chuck can do whatever the fuck he wants and as much as it’s a blatant excuse for the show’s flaws, it also works really well for the meta / autonomous horror.

“You’re Losing Me” By Taylor Swift is THE later season Destiel song, specifically from Castiel’s perspective.
If somebody has already said this then… uh, uh, uh- :3
Immediately, the first lines suit the two of them SO well:
Dean not understanding why he and Sam were set up for the fate that they were: Michael and Lucifer, Cain and Abel 2.0, Angel and Demon. Cass was there to tell him that he doesn’t always get it either. Take the bench scene from 04x07 for example:
“You misunderstood me, Dean, I’m not like you think. I was praying that you would choose to save the town.”
“I’m not a hammer, as you say, I have questions; I have doubts. I don’t know what is right or what is wrong anymore.”
Cass was always willing to explain and guide, even in times when Dean had lost almost all hope. He and Dean used to appreciate the world for its beauty and delicacy. Now it’s over and Cass sits in The Empty (the dark).
Dean became so complicated and angry as the seasons progressed. He was always so contradictory and Cass kept getting confused and lost. He got kicked out by Dean and barely even knew why. He didn’t know if everything they had become had been tossed out.
He kept rising from the ashes metaphorically and literally. Metaphorically, when he was kicked down by Dean (or anyone for that matter), he would get back up and continue to help the Winchesters for the greater good. He was stronger than he got credit for.
Dean’s anger and isolation made it nearly impossible for either Cass or Sam to communicate with him. He turned them away, got angry, broke things, drank too much, or acted plain arrogant. Eventually Cass was getting fed up (rightfully so).
Cass and HIS CANON GLARE- when he gets so angry that he glares instead of speaking because that spoke louder. Because he knew Dean wouldn’t listen to a damn word he would say.
Dean once called him a brother, but now he said that the only constant in their plans ‘s downfalls seems to be Castiel:
“The plan changed Dean, something went wrong, you know this, something always goes wrong.”
“Then why does that something always seem to be you.”
All Cass wanted was to talk, instead Dean turned it into his fault completely and blamed him for things out of his control (Mary, Jack, Rowena…).
Their air was always thick with loss off hunters, loss of battles, loss of hope. It was full of indecision of how to move forward when all possibilities seemed like dead ends.
Each time that they were in a situation that they felt stuck in Dean would be mad. Dean would take that anger out on Cass as if his presence at all was an imposition.
Dean never realized truly how much he loved Cass until Cass was gone to The Empty, for good.
THIS BRIDGE WAS FUCKING WRITTEN FOR THEM AND I WILL NOT ACCEPT A DENIAL OF THIS STATEMENT ‼️‼️
They were THE sad song for ELEVEN years. Eventually when Dean almost killed Castiel’s son in front of him, that pushed Cass over the edge. That was enough. Cass had given him everything. Cass rebelled against heaven for Dean, he lost everything for Dean. He dealt with Dean’s hot and cold temper for YEARS without complaint, only compassion.
“AND ALL I DID WAS BLEED AS I TRIED TO BE THE BRAVEST SOLDIER !! FIGHTING IN ONLY YOUR ARMY FRONTLINES DON’T YOU IGNORE ME”
That lyric IS Castiel. Prove me wrong, you can’t.
Cass always wanted Dean to just see him, and in the glimpses Dean did, Cass was his happiest. But, as the seasons progressed Dean stopped outwardly appreciating Cass at all. All he showed him was frustration and anger.
1. “Do something, babe, say something” is versatile. Early season Dean would say it to early season Cass. It is also 15x03 Cass saying: “I tried to talk to you over and over again, but you don’t care. I’m… dead to you.”
2. “Lose something, babe, risk something” Early season Dean to early season Cass.
3. “Choose something, babe, i got nothing” LATE SEASON CASS TO LATE SEASON DEAN !! Specifically 15x03 (again <3) when Cass says “Jack’s dead. Chuck’s gone. You and Sam have each other. I think it’s time for me to move on.” HE WAS SAYING HE HAD NOTHING LEFT.
This song is just so Destiel coded and I cannot keep this in my head or I will explode.
PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE if u have imput reblog or whatever and talk about it because lyrical ships are SO important to me.

Man, Supernatural really speed ran the way they wrote Jack. It was everything they did with their other recurring characters, but only over the course of three seasons.
Introduce likeable character played by talented actor with potential
Begin to act on that potential and create a compelling narrative
Realize this character's arc no longer fits the plot as perfectly as it used to
Instead of fixing the plot, just kill said character off.
Bring them back at a price and make that into part of the plot
Get bored and make them go through a villain arc just so something happens
Neglect their character for half a season
Remember they exist and do something semi-compelling with them again
Take them out of the show completely

no but this little moment right here makes me go feral, cause he's so clearly NOT SURPRISED by the whole thing. a little shocked, possibly not understanding, but not surprised. when he tilts his head and kinda swallows, his face is literally screaming don't go there, man, like he's always known on some level, they both did, that's why he says "don't do this", don't speak it out loud, not if it means i lose you, let's just leave it like this, unspoken and undefined, but don't leave me here like this, just don't, and that's why he's also resigned, cause he knows it always ends up like this for him, cause he can't have what he wants and people who love him end up dead, cause he's that cursed, and it's about to happen again, so DON'T DON'T DON'T, STAY WITH ME
