ah yes what better way to start off than with one of my favorite ships! I'll possibly do glacier later, but without further ado...

lavashipping pride month headcanons!

before they "officially" started dating, Cole and Kai were basically already a couple, they just refused to acknowledge it. it drove Nya and Jay insane especially

PDA, pet names, sharing a bed, everything and they STILL convinced themselves they were just friends. it took Zane bluntly calling them a couple as if it was a fact for them to actually wrap their heads around dating each other

once they finally acknowledged their feelings, they had a period of embarrassment where they could barely talk to each other without getting extremely flustered, but soon they realized that it really wasn't so different than how they were before and things smoothed out

both their elements and their personalities are very compatible, so they tend to balance each other out pretty well. Cole feeds off of Kai's energy and Kai finds it easier to relax around Cole. Kai forces Cole to get up early, Cole forces Kai to go to bed on time, etc, etc

they sap off each others warmth and it makes the other ninja so mad during movie nights because while Cole and Kai are cuddling on their own perfectly warm, everyone else is freezing their asses off

they're both big on physical touch. Kai likes to hang off Cole's shoulders at all times and Cole will rest his cheek on Kai's shoulder or head

around the others, they act like their normal selves with each other, but in private, they're a lot quieter and softer. nobody would believe that was Kai Smith himself silently putting tiny braids in Cole's hair and smiling so tenderly at him

they fight over who gets to be the big spoon (Cole usually wins)

Kai lets Cole draw all over him. flowers, dragons, even little ninjas are all over his arms, legs, and back. Cole thinks it's hilarious when the ink gets on Kai's face

they like to use sickly sweet nicknames in front of the other ninja (namely Jay and Lloyd) to gross them out but if either of them use them seriously the other is a mess instantly

also, just because I live for the dumpster scene in crystalized, they definitely kiss to shut each other up. in the middle of conversation. in the middle of a fight. all the time

OKAY! so (im sorry unu) but Drax wont be a huge part in the story. Though in regards to who he is, he's kind of a carer for the general community. Ofc he still has his mystic abilities for alchemy and such, but he spends most his time studying plants and remedies.

He spends a lot of time around Splinter as they have known each other for a lifetime of years, and have become surprising friends regardless of the difference in "status" (though that's not really a thing here)

NOW AS FOR SPLINTER :D AHHHHH MY DARLING OLD MAN <3

He is mother nature himself, or father nature depending on how he's feeling lol. The heart and soul of the forest. Mans been keeping this show running for many centuries now. He created the guardians within the last few hundred of years (that will be explained more in a comic later) to help out as he finally begins to show signs of ageing (that, and he was a little lonely). Without him, all sources of natural life would collapse. A lot of responsibility for one rats shoulders, but him and his gentle heart keep it going through its cycle despite all odds.

aw I love this ask! I have some specific ones that I use but otherwise I'm about to just rattle off random ones I think he'd use

for Lloyd: kid, green bean, gremlin, mostly things related to him being small and annoying. also weird variations/pronunciations of his name like Luh-Lloyd

for Nya: shortens her name to 'N' a lot when he's messaging or writing, he also insults her affectionately usually about her being nerdy

for Jay: also a lot of affectionate insults. SPARKIE. I love that one soooo much

for Cole: likes to call him emo-boy because he's the black ninja. also enjoys calling him The Cole as if he's the hulk of their team

for Zane: the classics, bud, buddy, pal, he uses reassuring nicknames because Zane doesn't really understand affectionate insults. also calls him old man because they have no idea what his age is

what IS the constant feed? i've been imagining just something like static and white noise that just drives him crazy, but i gotta know what it actually is

It’s a constant feed of his family being awful to him. It starts pretty mild.

Mikey making a joke that’s less funny, and more hurtful.

Splinter telling Donnie to be useful and fix something.

April telling him she’s through with pretending he doesn’t drive her mad.

Leo blaming Donnie for his tech getting in the way.

Raph furious because it’s Donnie’s fault that one of their brothers got hurt.

And it just repeats with different scenarios, all varying in intensity, until Donnie can’t remember who’s said what and is just left with the knowledge that his entire family hates him. So when Kendra finally shows him this, it’s the final nail in the coffin.

okayokayokayokay so pretty much all of these questions will be Officially Answered properly in the character design/intro pages im working on but also i am physically vibrating with excitement about the fact that you noticed all these details and i have very little self control so! lore dump time!!!

(minor tw for mentions of leos self-harm/self-destructive anxious behaviors and unhealthy coping skills)

- mikey does indeed have curly fur! i believe he would be considered a 'rex' rat (pictured on the left) for this trait? though the curls can be more easily seen on mice (pictured on the right). or, at least it seems that way. have not delved too deeply into the details of rodent genes and husbandry, but id assume its the same sort of mutation considering curly haired mice are also referred to as rex sometimes? either way hes a extra floofy bby 🧡

-as for raphie, unfortunately being more fluff and less shell than the average rapheal comes with its downsides. especially if you and your brothers occasionally encounter things like territorial dogs, hungry cats, or sewer crocodiles while exploring places ur dad said not supposed to go. (most of his scars will have more ninja related stories, but his ear i think got messed up from something very animal. probably around age 11 ish? old enough to sneak out from dads protection but young enough to not fully know how to handle himself alone against real danger. thankfully his ear injury looks worse than it actually is for the most part, as the damage was largely to the outer ear. his hearing wasnt super affected, except that he now has a bit of a harder time being able to track/pinpoint noises origins if its on his right side.)

-also yep! dons got some glasses that just clip/rest on the bridge of his nose! theyre mostly just for home use, as they do fall off if hes knocked around. in the field he has some goggles he tends to use (theyre helpful as they have multiple additional functions like heat-imaging, extra zoom/telescoping, and recording capabilities. but also theyll give him headaches if he wears them for too long without breaks). contacts are theoretically also an option but he absolutely hates the sensation of putting them in. so sometimes when hes tired he'll just not bother with either clips or goggles and just squint and struggle. leo hates when he does that lol.

-speaking of leo, he is def an anxious baby :) he has a few patches of fur missing on his hand cos he has the tendency to tug on it while hes thinking. he yanked and chewed on his own tail a lot when he was younger too, which is why when hes older he usually wears some wraps to cover the scars left from that behavior. he finds those scars specifically to be kinda embarrassing and shameful because they werent from any battle or life-lesson, just his own 'inability to control himself'. all of his brothers have repeatedly called him out on the fact that that is not a healthy way to think about his anxiety or mental health, but leo insists hes fine. hes kinda convinced himself that a proper warrior always has control over his own body* and his own thoughts, thus he should be able to just like willpower-brute-force his way into 'being better'. (this line of thinking pisses raph off so much he has to leave and go hit something)

Splinter also tries to talk him through some of that internalized guilt/shame/everything, but splinters very metaphorical, poetic, and indirect when it comes to talking about Big Things, which combined with how much leo gets caught in his own head, makes it kinda hard to gauge how much these talks actually help

*this is made extra fun considering leos also ftm trans, so he is faced with a body that fundamentally disobeys him perhaps more than the average rat-man.

-and im still going back and forth between a few species for splinter, but im leaning mostly towards an African Spurred Tortoise! they have these beautiful if kinda subtle geometric shell patterns and are the third largest species of tortoise in the world. the only thing that doesnt fit perfectly with Splints is that (allegedly) their lifespan in captivity is around 50ish years, whereas im p sure Tortoise Splinter is well over 75, probably closer to 90 when the boys are born and hes mutated into Old Man Papa.

but maybe hes just a particularly long lasting African Spurred Tortoise.

the Hamato family has taken very good care of him for many decades after all. :)
