Which of the Three Houses guys will watch their beloved go off on an enemy and have the reaction of "Well mark me down as scared AND horny", do you think?
Ahh, see my dear Friend Anon, this is a nuanced spectrum- but I'll do my best to break it down as I see it:
Scared and Horny:
Claude - has enough common sense to be scared, but definitely hot-blooded enough to be horny about it. A beautiful balance, frankly, though he may tease you about how wild you were.
Raphael - soooo close to qualifying for the "just horny" category, but he is a sweet boy and still wants to check to be sure you're alright (mentally, emotionally, physically) after the battle.
Ignatz - soooo close to qualifying for the "just scared" category lmao. However, as you all know, I see our boy Ignatz as very repressed and very kinky, and seeing you be so powerful and passionate definitely stirs some part of him.
Ferdinand - practically the poster-boy for "scared and horny" tbh; he feels sheepish about it, but he just can't help how your strength and force of will arouse him.
Seteth - also strangely close to the "just horny" category, not that he wants to admit it; seeing you like this really awakens something primal in him from far in his past. Still, his concern for you is ever-present and ultimately pushes aside how entrancing you look conquering your foes so thoroughly.
Sylvain - I almost don't know how to elaborate on this one because, I mean, of course, right? Of course Sylvain is worried, but also just burning inside watching you flushed in the face, damp with sweat, muscles tight, hair wild.......
Just Scared:
Lorenz - oscillating wildly between worried for you and worried for every person around you. Definitely impressed, don't get me wrong- he appreciates battle prowess. But if you're really going berserk, he's worried.
Dedue - while he's likely right there beside you in the fight, he worries about seeing you get particularly aggressive. He's seen what bloodlust has done to the other most valued person in his life, and never wants to see you go too far down that path.
Ashe - it's not as though he can't stomach violence, he just feels that there's a certain responsibility and necessity for rules of engagement when it comes to combat, hence his proclivity for chivalry. Seeing you completely lose yourself worries him, and he'll want to be with you and hold you and make sure you're okay as soon as he can.
Just Horny:
Hubert - I feel like this is more or less self explanatory lmao. Though he does still hope you'll be rational and not do anything unnecessarily risky while eviscerating your foes.
Caspar - again, an obvious choice. Honestly, I think Caspar wants to fuck after just about every battle you two come back from, provided neither of you is hurt too badly.
Jeritza - this is the most obvious one so far lol. Though, when he's more 'himself,' he does silently worry about you sharing in his bloodshed and provoking the Death Knight part of him.
Felix - honestly, it's probably even fiercer than Hubert or Caspar; the lust he feels for you in the heat of battle is both primal and nearly spiritual. This is about his whole life philosophy, after all. After a particularly tough and gruesome fight, he wants nothing more than to absolutely ravage you (and might need to be talked down if he has wounds to attend to first)
Outliers:
Linhardt - ideally, he is not present, as the sight of you "going off" on an enemy is likely to involve waaaaay more blood than he's comfy with. He'll definitely tend to you afterward, and wryly scold you for going overboard (secretly, he was super worried when he heard from your comrades of how ferocious you were out there)
Dimitri - he's in different categories depending on where he's at in his arc tbh. Feral Dimitri is obviously just horny about you diving into the bloodshed with him, while "redeemed" Dimitri has some measure of restraint about it
Yuri - it's more like "amused/impressed and horny," tbh. Though he never looses his head about it- he's still keeping a close eye on you to make sure nothing goes awry. But he won't deny that he enjoys watching, nonetheless.

what do you think would realistically edelgerd's fate post AG?
We know Doylist wise she was Supreme Puppet'd to have her, somehow, survive (when we know how she reacts to military defeat in AM!) and removing all of her agency - Supreme Puppet was Puppet'd, so she cannot be hold accountable for what she did as Lobotogard, or with her regressed state, cannot be accountable the things she did with her mind intact.
I've already ranted about this special plot device to make sure the waifu escapes the axe and its sexist undertones, but damn if thinking about it to this day pisses me to no ends.
Faced with Regressed!Leader, Dimitri dgaf and moves on (or rather, away from her, reminiscing of AM - he has other things to do than to linger on his relationship with Supreme Leader).
I'd say -
Dimtri dgaf and leaves her to her own devices (which would be a nod to the "parley"? Now that Supreme Leader became one of the "weaks" what is she going to do? Bootstraps or rely on a support system she so much decried?) and move to Enbarr to put an end to the War.
But thinking in more serious terms?
His bannermen, friends and people wouldn't settle for anything else than Supreme Leader's death (maybe not on the gates on Enbarr?). She's the one who started this war and had so many people killed in her imperialist bid, so the only way Supreme Leader escapes death is with the Church.
Now, Supreme Puppet'd by Thales and maybe acknowledging Supreme Leader's second crust, Rhea might be more partial to her - she had been used as a plaything by Agarthans (hopefully she developped her racist tendencies after the experiments?) - and could see her as a victim.
On the other hand, she did start this war, and had more agency than expected given how she petitionned the CoS to war against the Agarthans who infiltrated her Empire - and yet, she still launched her attack on the monastery of her own free will.
Rhea is a compassionate person (Yuri still exists even after killing her knights!) so I think, with all things considered - Supreme Leader's status as a victim of Agarthans, Supreme Puppet and Lobotogard, but also, the war she declared and planned, sacking Garreg Mach, attacking the CoS both spiritually (the Southern Church thing was meant to be a direct "contradiction?" to what she preaches?) and martially, and MAGA > Peace - I'd say Rhea'd agree on not killing Supreme Leader, but at the only condition that she remains with the CoS, in something like her sentence will be to rebuild what she destroyed and mend the wounds she caused so that she might have a different outlook on Fodlan and its people (aka, not going all "i don't mind sacrificing them to reach my goals") when she will remember what she did/who she was, and/or will not become the same "tyrant" she was when she will "grow up" (mentally speaking?).
But that's at the only condition that she never gets to rule anything ever again or hold any kind of political power returning to Adrestia/Enbarr - if those conditions aren't met, she will be executed.
(and maybe to appease the people she's now supposed to work with, Rhea will lend her some old bottle of hairdye, maybe people will not see her as the former emperor who bled the continent for her whims, but as someone who is living a new life)
Rhea might thus "request custody" of Supreme Puppet and while the Kingdom might want her dead, the Church, as the main victim of the war, can have the last say (besides Dimitri might be relieved that Supreme Leader will not be executed), however, the Church asks to everyone present to tell their people that the "Supreme Leader who declared this war of unification died and is no more", maybe taking her crown and Aymr away, as proof she's "dead".
It sounds a bit too merciful coming from Rhea, when we see her in Tru Piss and with her history as Seiros the Warrior - but post!AG!Rhea imo is in a different mood, first of all, with Thales gone there are no people who will target Nabateans because of their race (so no genocide PTSD anymore?) and/or try to make new relics, and unlike the events of FE16, Rhea spent the last few years living with humans who demonstrated they could be trustworthy and actually helped her when she was in need (tfw Rhea doesn't know about Dimitro).
I can see her having more faith in humans and a future in Fodlan for everyone post!AG, as Dimitri and the Kingdom people seem to be trustworthy, than in FE16 when all of the events we play through in WC are basically triggering her genocide trauma (people hunting bones and crest stones, killing Jerry, turning her beloved wards in demonic beasts, some people targeting her for no plausible reason (unless the Western Church knew she had pointy ears?), Hresvelg becoming the new Nemesis, etc...)
That being said...
If Clout tries, during the epilogue, to take a shot at Rhea - when people are celebrating the end of the war - I cannot see things not turning sour for him.
Granted, if you want realism, Clout and GW cannot function because they expect the people involved to be completely stupid, but for this AU's sake, let's say Clout and Dimitro had their heart to heart in Zahrofl, he holds her at Failnaught range and demands her death/resignation/removal of her church.
If he shots and kills her (because Rhea would have dropped her guard, thinking she is surrounded by allies!), I cannot see anyone/anything preventing Claude from being dismembered/slaughtered in the seconds after Rhea's death - not even Dimitro because, hey, Clout said he will accept the consequences of his actions to "change" Fodlan, right? - by Church forces, Kingdom forces and, if we want to push the realism card, even Alliance forces (why the fuck did he do that? Maybe it's a weird doppelganger like those dark mages use! Or Erwin will behead him himself - sure this guy did that, but he doesn't represent the Alliance!).
In the chaos and confusion following Rhea's death, Supreme Leader is executed ("if she never started her war, nothing like this would have ever happened") and Fodlan is fucked when Sothis eventually pops up.
If Clout only holds Rhea at "Failnaught range" and she wonders wtf and asks him to explain - while the entire host of people from, again, the Kingdom, the CoS and KoS, the former BL and maybe some peeps from the GD and Leicester are there - Clout gives his bonker
"Who steals your freedom and gives you an endless list of duties and obligations simply because you have a Crest? Who forces you and your friends into a bunch of unwanted marriages and positions of power? The church even forbids any official contact with outside regions! Not exactly great for Faerghus, right? Being as close to Sreng and Albinea as you are."
reasons, Rhea's first reaction might be to crush him (because now she's on guard!) but if Dimitro says this is not a matter partaining to Faerghus and would rather stay aside (which would throw a wrench in Rhea's previous belief that humanity can be trusted again!) the CoS/Kos, Kingdom and Alliance people might just call crap and bullshit and debunk his baseless accusations (rekindling Rhea's faith in people and Fodlan?) from Annette telling him that they already trade with Albinea, Duscur generals and even Dedue telling him they witnessed the Church helping them regardless of their place of birth, Ingrid saying that her marriage to Glenn had not be organised or planned by the Church, but out of the affection they both had for each other and Ashe telling him those obligations and duties he seems to resent don't exist because he has a crest, but out of a genuine desire to help people.
Maybe we can add Judith wondering wtf is going on with Clout-boy, has he forgotten people get responsabilities and duties because they want them or because Nobility exists well beyond Fodlan's borders? "And I thought you had more common sense than this!"
A Goneril bannerman/loldier might add that the Archbishop asked them to treat Almyran as something else than nuisances and parasites when she came to visit and left with an Almyran kid in tow, but hey - they always attack them for no reason and create strife in Goneril for no reason, haven't they attacked just before the Academy closed?
Basically everyone debunking his claims, Clout realising that said claims were sprouted from his ass so he gets some tissue and wipes it clean.
Clout then relents (tfw no allies to support him) and the Alliance's roundtable finally vote to elect a branch member of the Riegan fam as head of the House - Clout leaves Failnaught and departs "somewhere far away".
(maybe he returns as Almyra's King later on, or as a crown prince, with a treaty/offer of peace, wishing for prosperity between the two lands).
-> all jokes aside and in a more serious setting, even with Dimitro not outwardly condemning him, Clout's course of action would be frowned upon by every party - Alliance included - and depending on his involvment, Dimitro himself might be challenged by his vassals/friends "Sure it's not about Faerghus' safety, but are we really going to let this guy target and ice and bring more chaos by eliminating our ally - who repaid our hospitality with kindness and supported our war efforts - when the Alliance refused to assist us when the Empire swore to Make Adrestia Great Again and warred against us?"
Granted, in this more serious setting, Dimitro doesn't exist because the plot doesn't bend backwards to accomodate Clout so...
Even if Clout doesn't try to ice Rhea asap and waits maybe 8 months after GM's recovery and the end of the war, I cannot see the Lords of the Alliance - when they can try to do "business as usual" with the former Adrestia lands - endorse a military campaing against the Church to, uh, decalcify Fodlan's current order to put YOLO in place. Clout suggesting this is basically handing to Erwin/anyone reason enough to depose him from his seat as Riegan's representative (the alliance has more to win with rebuilding Adrestia/Fodlan than to wage a pointless war that will alienate everyone and leave their backs open to an Almyran attack), and he either runs away to Almyra or dies in a pointless attempt to start a civil war/rebellion to garner troops to target the Church.
For sure this looks like an ideal "and everything ends good AU!" but in a more serious setting, where people have common sense and don't suddenly hold idiot plot balls to make sure Clout seems to have a point... his POV doesn't hold under scrutiny and no one can normally follow him, unless they have another agenda (Make Leicester Great Again?)

on natsumugi, girls’ literature, and love
“Love is the key to life’s secrets. Love exists first, then there is life. If one takes away love, what is the meaning of life?” Kitamura Tokoku, “Disillusioned poets and women” (1892)
In the process of writing a paper arguing the validity of Enstars as yuri, I got to read a lot about Yoshiya Nobuko’s 1920 novel Two Virgins in the Attic. Chronicling the story of Akiko, a lonely young woman without purpose or direction, and her relationship with a rebellious girl named Tamaki, Two Virgins is incredibly notable not just for its queerness, but also for the way it participates in the love discourse of its time.
What does any of that have to do with Natsume or Tsumugi or Enstars as a whole? Girls’ lit has a lot of crossover and noticeable traces in Enstars, but that’s not a beast for today. What I want to explore is how Natsumugi’s journey during the War arc parallels Akiko and Tamaki’s story, and in turn, how Enstars echoes modern love discourse.
“Love can be a wonderful thing to experience.” That’s what Natsumugi makes me feel. They surrender themselves to it, letting themselves be scorched by flames, and from the ruins build themselves up again, as new people from the same material, within themselves a little bit of the other. They become intertwined. I want to try and break down that lofty feeling so I can share it with you.
i. what is ‘modern love discourse’?
Just like other abstract but incredibly proximate concepts, people have been trying to concretely define ‘love’ since time immemorial. Modern love discourse is one of those many attempts.
During the Meiji era, Japan opened up to the rest of the world after a long period of national isolation and began absorbing Western influence like crazy. One of the concepts they were eager to adapt was Christian love. This was in stark contrast to tradition Japanese conceptions of love, which were focused more on the physical and carnal. Spiritual in nature, that is, recontextualizing love as a pathway to not only physical pleasure but also spiritual/intellectual/internal fulfillment (self-realization, basically); and emphasizing purity, monogamy, and the institution of the family, Japan viewed this new idea as an asset in nation-building. Hence the heterosexual and nationalistic undertones in a lot of modern love discourse.
The opening quote to this essay is a good example of this. It’s from Kitamura Tokoku, a prominent writer during the Meiji era. (I encourage you to go back and give it another read or two before proceeding!) It’s a pretty concise and simple way to describe the majority outlook on love at the time: through experiencing love, we learn more about ourselves and find our place in the world. That place being... becoming a productive member of society by marrying and reproducing.
Love is generative. It is union, creation, and foundation. People live to pursue the goal of (heterosexual) love, in order to attain its rewards: wholeness of self, a purpose in the world. Without love, people are unable to live a full life.
Pretty rigid, isn’t it? It’s het and pretty focused on clear-cut romance. It assumes everyone wants to get married or have kids or has the capability to do either. Not too far from our society now, really; we still glorify (romantic—and heterosexual, I am thinking about comphet here) love as an important milestone in life. The dominant perception of love in modern Japan clearly privileged straight men. What about the women? And more pertinently, what about the queers?
There were certainly feminists who contributed to the discourse, but often they remained attached to the idea of marriage leading to fulfillment; in its engagement with queerness, one of the most prominent feminists of the time, Hiratsuka Raicho, actually disavowed same-sex relationships between women after getting married, despite previously having been in one herself and speaking fondly of it.
But queerness still sneakily found its way into the discourse through girls’ literature, due in no small part to the influence of lesbian writer of popular fiction, Yoshiya Nobuko.
ii. how does two virgins queer modern love discourse?
As a quick definition, girls’ literature or fiction here pertains to any written work meant for an audience of girls. While the term initially referred to novel-length narrative pieces, now it’s more or less an umbrella term. Modern girls’ literature was published in girls’ magazines, to be read by children and schoolgirls.
Written in an ornate, flowery prose that borrowed from classical Japanese literature, girls’ literature often told stories of unrequited love or passionate friendships between girls. These relationships were termed S-relationships or sister relationships; often, they manifested a sense of distance between the girls involved, usually through differences in age or status (think student/teacher). In fiction this distance took on other forms, such as unrequited feelings, noncommunication, and even emotional unavailability. 
As you might be thinking or already know, S-relationships seem pretty gay. If we want to be period-accurate (which means doing away with labels like gay or lesbian), then S-relationships are a form of same-sex relationships. They were not just a literary trope but an actual real-life phenomenon; both its practice and literary representation was allowed because it was seen as normative, a way to prepare young girls for heterosexual partnerships while protecting their purity because “there’s no way girls would have sex with each other! They’re pure schoolgirls!” In the cases girls did have sex, the relationship was seen as deviant and harmful. Same goes for the instances when two girls would attempt a lovers’ suicide because they couldn’t be together after graduation, or once they got married. 
A lot of girls’ fiction about S-relationships ended in tragedy as a result of those attitudes. Usually, one of the girls dies; sometimes one of them must leave, never to be seen again; other times there’s the responsibility of marriage and motherhood which is greater than the bond between two Best Friends And Something More (But Not Lovers, Not At All). It’s easy to see that and think “Oh no, the lesbians have been buried again!” and/or “Wow, so queerness here is a phase, huh.” In other words, girls’ lit seems like it bends to the will of the productive, heterosexual order of modern Japanese society.
But ‘a lot’ isn’t ‘all,’ and anyway, whether the tragedy of girls’ lit is positive or negative is an entirely different discussion from this one. Perhaps to your relief, Two Virgins in the Attic has a happy, liberatory ending for its queer couple: the titular virgins, Akiko and Tamaki.
Akiko is introduced as a girl who lacks a purpose in life. Struggling to pass in school and having distanced herself from her Christian faith, Akiko is evicted from her religious school’s dorm and forced to move to a new one. Her new room, the titular attic, is shaped unconventionally as a triangle, mirroring Akiko’s own feelings of detachment from people around her. She begins to see the attic as a safe space, the only place she can feel she truly belongs. This escapist fantasy is her sole happiness which allows her to bury her feelings of inadequacy and alienation, as well as distance herself from her social responsibilities as a young woman. However, beyond her beloved attic lies reality, which Akiko must eventually confront.
Despondent with her imminent loss of youth and lack of direction in life, Akiko meets Tamaki, her new roommate. A kindred rebellious spirit, but much more outspoken, Tamaki quite literally brings Akiko outside of her shell, taking her to meet new people, experiencing new things in the city, and teaching her about finding herself and her own path. Akiko develops romantic feelings toward Tamaki, which are returned, and the two form a bond that ultimately drives both girls out of the attic for good, and into the real world.
Throughout the novel, Yoshiya includes characters who have chosen to forsake same-sex love for heterosexual unions. One of these is the character Kinu, who appears towards the end of the novel. She is a beautiful older girl who was once involved with Tamaki. Unhappy and unfulfilled in marriage, and with nary a way out, she seeks out her old flame to ask if they could attempt a lover’s suicide. Kinu’s proposal poses not only a grave threat to Akiko and Tamaki’s relationship, but also represents the supposed destructive nature of same-sex unions; yet Yoshiya subverts this by clearly making Kinu’s misery in marriage the rationale for her extremity.
Heterosexual partnerships are painted as limiting and destructive for women, especially with regard to their own self-development and actualization. Conversely, through Akiko and Tamaki, same-sex love is seen as conducive for this development. 
While their bond brings many good things to Akiko, it also surfaces her insecurities when Kinu enters the picture. She grows incredibly jealous of Kinu, and these feelings drive a wedge between her and Tamaki; feeling abandoned and once again excluded from the world around her, Akiko lashes out, hitting friends who enter the attic and even destroying a doll that had been a gift from Kinu to Tamaki. This violence forces the dorm’s management to evict Akiko, giving her no choice but to enter the world she had so longed to hide from. While this may seem like a negative portrayal of same-sex love, similar to the strategy employed with Kinu, the narrative does not portray Akiko’s feelings for Tamaki as destructive. By framing it as jealousy and frustration at loneliness, same-sex love itself is not portrayed as the threat, but rather the inability to realize it. 
However, Tamaki comes to Akiko as she is packing, and proposes that they leave the dorm together. This pushes Akiko to realize what direction she wants to take in life—being with Tamaki—a realization made possible not only by Tamaki’s teaching, but their union as a whole. It is through their relationship that Akiko finally finds the purpose that had been evading her from the start.
In this way, same-sex love is portrayed as equally legitimate to heterosexual unions, if not more preferable altogether. Akiko and Tamaki’s relationship guides Akiko towards her own journey to selfhood and self-actualization; through her union with Tamaki, she is able to enter a state of ‘becoming.’
iii. what’s natsumugi got to do with any of this?
Two Virgins in the Attic, to me, is a story of love and how it reinvents the self. Our main girl Akiko starts out stressing over who she is and who she should be; she is caught at a crossroads of identity, unsure of what she herself wants, paralyzed as she clings to her youth and girlhood, which is ultimately unstable. It’s relative to age and societal perception; she can’t be a maiden forever, eventually she will become an old maid. The one thing she believes and wants herself to be, she doesn’t even have control over.
Akiko reminds me of Natsume. 
I think about this a lot, but you can read the war as Natsume’s bildungsroman. It’s his story of education—preconceptions of himself and the world around him are totally shattered, he is forced into an uncomfortable, unfamiliar position (that of powerlessness and a lack of control); these events force him to grow up, to leave the fantasies of his childhood with the new, more weathered outlook the experience has left him with. Of course, relationship troubles with your roommate are a different ball game from the psy-op that is the war, but Akiko and Natsume go through incredibly similar journeys. In the end, it’s through love (most strikingly for the Oddballs in Natsume’s case) that they realize what they truly want, and it’s also love which guides them to a new purpose. 
Tamaki is this mentor-character who teaches Akiko so much without us ever really getting into her head and understanding her views and side of the story, which makes it simultaneously extremely easy and difficult for me to put her as a parallel to Tsumugi.
Clearly, both of them are the catalysts for Natsume/Akiko’s change. Like, Natsume’s name gets brought up as an Eccentrics candidate because of Tsumugi. If not for that, maybe his first year would have been less traumatizing. Regardless of the reason behind Tsumugi bringing him up—did he recognize him from the get-go or no?—the fact remains that Tsumugi influenced the course of Natsume’s path during the war. Plus, even when he knew the Sakasaki Natsume of the rumor mills was his dear childhood friend Natsume-chan, he made no moves to remove him from the conflict. But on the flip side, Natsume is also the catalyst for Tsumugi’s change—extremely evident with “I really love that child,” and “You taught me pain... and everything else.”
Tsumugi’s struggles with minimizing his existence mirrors Akiko’s desperation to cling to her girlhood; in turn, we can say that Tsumugi’s comfort in diminishing himself is like Natsume’s stubborn belief in his own greatness and other childhood fantasies. These attitudes are both remnants of childhood that they refuse to let go. It is their comfort zone and what they know to be true and right in the world. If we keep with the coming-of-age theming, it’s their marker of immaturity. (I know it’s way more complicated for Tsumugi because of family and trauma and everything, but work with me!)
“Okay, sure, that makes enough sense. But the war had Natsumugi fighting against each other. Where’s the love in that? If anything, they only show any ‘love’ to the other in the aftermath,” you might be thinking.
Well, yeah! (Partly because during the war itself, they had different objects of affection; Eichi for Tsumugi, his nii-sans for Natsume. I’ve written something on Natsume’s love for the Oddballs already and there’s a lot to say for Eimugi, but I digress. I do want to point out that Natsume never really stopped caring about Tsumugi, even during the war. The intensity of his feelings of betrayal makes that pretty clear. On the flip side... there was definitely some tunnel vision and delusionality going on.)
It’s at the end when they do anything caring or ‘loving’ to the other. That’s because by then, they’re completely spent and alone. They’re spoils of war; lacking purpose, lacking direction, lacking motivation and ambition. By the end of the war, Tsumugi has never been more content with living a small and mediocre existence. Natsume’s first year of high school has been ruined, and both of them are alone like never before. They only have one another.
It’s a little funny that I talked all about growing up and maturing as a result of the war, to circle back to the idea that Natsume and Tsumugi are childhood friends. 
I think it’s interesting that they now have to learn how to navigate the pains of growing up together. Not because they were on opposing sides of the war, but because they’re reminders of who they used to be to each other; the ‘return to childhood’ between them is the beginning of a return to their dreams, what they wanted before they were invariably changed by that one academic year, and probably even before that. It’s a return to earnestness. 
When they were kids, they both just wanted to make people (their moms) happy. That was really it; they wanted to put smiles on their faces, wanted them to be proud of their kid. After the war, they don’t just return to that dream; they discover their own rationale for pursuing it, defined by who they are now, rather than forgetting either their innocence or jadedness. They rekindle a long-dimmed spark in each other.
It is through their connection that they are able to begin their journey towards a greater, more whole selfhood—towards a future as idols—on their own terms. It is through their union that they can reconstruct themselves.
(While I drew parallels between them and Akiko/Tamaki, who are romantically involved, I don’t even think that this reading of Natsumugi has to be romantic. Like an S-relationship, it’s definitely something more than simple friendship, but not necessarily romantic. It’s like a transcendental devotion, if that makes any sense.)
Rather than saying “love is generative/productive,” I think it’s more apt and economical to say that love is transformative. It’s exactly as the meme says: to be loved is to be changed. Let me offer a different image to ponder that thought, though. 
When I think of Natsumugi, I think of Prometheus. Because fire marks not an ending but a beginning; what can be destructive and violent is but an agent of change, a step forward into new frontiers, the key to doors of possibility that would otherwise never have occurred to someone. Fire creates agency in its ashes, free to scatter wherever it may please, the remnants untethered to the ground or to whatever it used to be. Its gift is a spit in the face of a god; now you've the tool to shape your fate. Now you can be anything or nothing at all.
What do we make of ash? Patience Worth gives quite a tender answer:
Who said that love was fire? I know that love is ash. It is the thing which remains When the fire is spent, The holy essence of experience.
There’s no better testament to that than Natsume and Tsumugi, together.

So a fun thing about episode 29 of Dynaman is that we've previously seen Chimera wear regular swimsuits but today she decided to go for a swim without one, but also still wearing her big fantasy headdress?

It is a pretty smart episode--she can't cast a specific "cause pain to whoever's in my outfit" curse, so she just does one on "people wearing red", which has an unexpected bonus when the boys transform and it starts hurting Red too; and Ryuu's plan to beat her is to turn up wearing the same colour as her since she won't curse that.
Because yeah, surprisingly this is also sort of a Ryuu episode, and I don't want to oversell how much of a yuri episode it is because a decent amount of it is also about him, and more of the violence between women is accidental than I expected? (Who did she think put on the clothes if not Rei? I guess she's more open-minded than human society was at the time)
But there sure is Something here, and if it results in a weird horny fanfic in a couple years' time...don't worry about it, okay?

yuto: ok so i dont know if i was just misled by fanart or if i havent gotten to it yet but i was under the mild impression yuto was going to be a bit of yuya's little Spiritual Guy In His Head (ala yubel, atem, astral, etc) after his got soul absorbed or whatever but WOW. NAH MAN HE'S JUST GONE FROM THIS PHYSICAL REALM AND HIS WAR TRAUMA SEEPS INTO YUYA'S BONES WHETHER HE WANTS IT TO OR NOT. very interested to see how that evolves, if it does. Phantom Knights are kind of hellish to play against but I do like Yuto quite a bit. I love his little avril lavigne circa 2001 tie.
yugo: I HAVENT SEEN ENOUGH OF YUGO IN SHOW TO HAVE A FULL ARRAY OF THOUGHTS YET but having seen him a couple of times + his DL event, I think he's VERY sillyfunny, I love when a yugioh character is kind of a huge doofus dumbass. said with so much love. I think of the three non-Yuya boys yugo's design really feels like it "fits" his home dimension the most--like it's already a racing suit, yeah, but just the design of it, the striking primary colors, yugo really FEELS like a loose 5D's character and it's so nice, i love his design.

when & how did he get horns! is there any particular meaning behind his forehead design &/or why it changed? how is he doing on a spiritual level, what are his hobbies and his least favorite drink, does the color red have any particular meaning to him (lots of red in his design), and why does he adventure/risk his life on the reg
OH BOY FANTASTIC QUESTIONS.
yuri got his horns from his patron as a 'gift' and a show of his power. preface: he was having an emotional breakdown because of his boyfriend at the time, a tiefling named valour, who was being a bit of a dick. Yuri wanted to return back to his former gangleader (the devil you know), but his Patron was basically like 'lets not do that and as a bonus here's some horns -- you always were horny, hehe)
for his forehead tattoo! the original design of the anchor and dot was put there by his former gang-leader of the Doomed Orphans. it represented the anchor that would all drag them down to the depths of oblivion one day, and the single dot represented the orphan, alone. after he killed said former abuser, his friend took him to a tattoo artist to have it redone, symbolically. it's an abstract shape, but represents expanding wings and rising above previous turmoil!
spiritually...yuri is...in a tough spot. His Patron is a literal devil, wanting to remake Yuri in his image (aka lawful evil). Yuri is decidedly not that. at his core, Yuri's a good kid who has been put through the ringer of bad experiences. he makes bad decisions and is mischievous and chaotic, I would peg him as chaotic good at best and chaotic neutral at worst.
hobbies: woodcarving, worm farming, general arts & crafts, taking care of his pet rat and ferret, sex..........
least favorite drink: water anything too sweet, like hot chocolate, would probably turn him off
red is a primary color I use in him to represent his devil patronage! it's also just Yuri's favorite color (and mine), and he would argue that it's a good color to hide bloodstains
AND to why he risks his life on the regular and do adventures? because he would be dead if not for his friends, and he loves doing this with them. before he was alone and had no one else, but now he has a boyfriend, a career, an education, and a future.

I got pretty sick last night (doing better now) so let's keep this one brief. As per usual, I'm ending my blogging season with some yuri I read this year that focused on adults.
I Love You So Much, I Hate You
This one's a short but tightly-wound office lady drama. It's a bit more sensual than a lot of its peers, which I always appreciate, especially in a subgenre that frequently writes its characters too immature for their age. We've got affairs and a manager-employee relationship here, so this manga would probably come off as highly dubious if it was heterosexual (something it alludes to when a different, straight workplace affair is exposed halfway through). But for better or for worse, we're still in a cultural moment where It's Okay For Girls, and this manga got me thinking about that double standard. Good stuff.

I've always loved how the women in these OL comics work in the most nondescript positions possible, such as "systems development" or in this case, "sales". Here's hoping we start seeing more interesting professions depicted in the future. I want geoscience yuri, air traffic control yuri, and cybersecurity incident response yuri.

There's nothing more heartwarming than a good autobiographical yuri. While I'm not really familiar with Inui Ayu's fictional output, she knocks it out of the park here with a simple and sickly-sweet manga about her daily life with an office lady she picked up. I see shades of my own relationship in the two of them, and while it's all pretty universal, that doesn't mean it's any less enjoyable. Give this one a shot next time it's 4AM and you've finished throwing up from food poisoning but you just can't fall asleep. It may not physically heal you, but it will keep you relaxed and spiritually nourished and that's really the best you can hope for.

wait lemme check again. ohhh ur right. the headline fooled me it's even homophoic to call them familial in these
we could have like. some kind of homoerotic student teacher relationship like a cellist and her protege with a toxic but deeply compelling artistic relationship. the teacher is creating the student in her own image and the intimacy of becoming is terrifying but also an honor, something deeply spiritual and sexually charged. the contrast between elegance and intimacy/dishevelment and the different gazes is doing a lot of storytelling.

this is probably the main movie poster. the title is something like Dollmaker (2024). it's a feminist movie so the main theme is something like how women have to be like dolls and perform in order to be accepted in high places in society. one of the main tensions is that chae sira's character makes yuri's character conform to the level of femininity required to be respected in south korea's classical music world. but neither of them actually fit in, no matter how hard they try. yuri's gaze is lower and facing away from the camera, implying some kind of power dynamic between her and chae sira, whose gaze is bright and direct with a relaxed but bright smile. there's a dark ribbon around her neck and sira's dress is black, connecting her arms with yuri's neck, some kind of power dynamic for sure. sira's partially covered. implying secrets and ways she puts yuri in front of herself when addressing the world.

this is also an excellent movie poster. the possessive arm around the waist. how chae sira's fingers are curled around yuri's. the bare collarbones. yuri's sleeveless less formal dress but matching shoes. the disheveled hair represents the fact that while they are beautiful and elegant and therefore normative, something that shouldn't be happening is happening and it's something they share, a secret. they both address the camera, yuri is more posed and off balance, leaning on sira who has both feet planted. maybe yuri tries to become her teacher in every way possible, supposedly to achieve the same kind of success but actually because she's sexually obsessed with her. but it's actually not the real version of chae sira's character that she's emulating but the carefully manufactured version she's cultivated to show to the world. what yuri is trying to become is not a real person, it's impossible to actually achieve perfection.

their hair looks wet, like they were just doing something that needs explaining before u saw them. chae si ra looks regal and formal in her posture, is looking ahead but not directly at the viewer. she is putting up a front, and the hand curled around yuri is representing that she is trying to protect her. yuri is in what looks like a long shirt over a slip dress, she presented herself to the world in a way that is inappropriate and maybe chae sira even took off her outer layer to give it to yuri. yuri is less formal but her arms are covered and the color matches with sira's dress more than hers. but yuri directly addresses the camera, holding onto sira. there's a boldness in her gaze, she doesn't care that she is being seen as inappropriate. she is hiding behind sira but also bolder than sira.
maybe the plot is that yuri slowly goes crazy trying to become her teacher and pushes herself to practice too much and spirals. meanwhile chae sira has a professional threat and someone is trying to blackmail her and she's hiding this from yuri who thinks it's because she herself did something wrong to make her teacher distrust her, which contributes to the spiraling. at her lowest moment yuri does something that could end her career but chae sira puts her own career at risk to protect her. idk what happens at the end. but the highlights are like very intimate touching in cello instruction scenes, borderline bdsm teaching sessions where sira has a very stern but quiet voice and yuri is like Into It. yuri has a fever dream that they're ballroom dancing together and sira is teaching her while yuri has never danced before and yuri's ballgown falls into shreds as they twirl across the floor. sira becomes slowly less and less physically put together as her stressors weigh on her. her make up starts to be less crisp, her clothes less formal and put together. yuri helps her put pins back in her hair and zips up a dress for her. yuri comes to her house to tend to her when she's sick and it's a very intimate moment but sira pushes her away even more after that happens. yuri black swans herself thinking of the imaginary perfectly feminine star cellist that she could be if she could only absorb her teacher's essence and the fake version of her in her mind tries to kill her. it's revealed that her teacher once had a lesbian affair with another cellist from berlin. but it's the one where she has a secret kid with a male conductor that is what she's being blackmailed for.

7. what scares you the most and why? Honestly LOTSSSS of things because I'm a pretty big baby, but asking me right now and I'll say "openness". For the first time in my life I have the freedom to pick a path without anyone depending on me, i can make choices for what I want to do, not something where someone is depending on me to keep pushing through. It's really fucking scary having the birdcage open.
14. what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do? hmmmmmmmm... I'll go with getting a tattoo! I love, love, love the ideas of tattoos but I've been too afraid of pain to actually go and get it done.
21. are you a spiritual person? Currently torn on this. The answer is "Probably" since I have no idea what started it all, but whatever exists out there that's a "higher power" is a either a real fucking sadist for making this timeline or the equivalent of the dad who went to the store for cigs and milk and never came home
28. do you collect anything? I do!! A bunch of things!!!
I really like cute bags and backpacks, I used to collect swords before I had to sell them for rent, currently starting a collection of Yuri Manga and have a bunch of different gaming collectibles!

I say unfortunately because it tends to burn me time and time again, but I can't help trusting people, especially those that get past my walls uweh

1st art piece 🎨 Karasu and my avatar, his wife, named Sha "Yuri" Hargreaves. I'm gonna write and illustrate a webcomic/doujinshi about our romance someday, just been doing it in bits and pieces on my personal pages online, and otherwise mostly in private diaries based on my dreams and pseudo-hallucinations (I have depressive psychosis and a fantasy prone personality - i'm a total dreamer ♡) ... Karasu is also gonna be adapted into the original webcomics i've been writing for over 20 years with my brothers and best friend too! The story is basically the same for both, but slightly different cos one is original while the other is the YYH version: Karasu astral projects and begins to haunt Sha's dreams as she is a spiritually sensitive human (descended from faeries, mind you, on this note), and he coaxes her into reviving him from the vampyre tree Kurama had trapped him in, as Sha works with plants (in the original series, she is actually the Seasonal Spring Warrior too), and she ends up reviving him, and uses her healing abilities from being part faerie to help him, but has to go the extra mile and use her life force and blood transfusion to help the Crow recover all the way. This bonds them together, and they end up falling in love in the end. ♡ Here my avatar has blonde hair as I was bleaching and dying my hair blonde back then. :3

arc v post-canon au where both sets of four dimension counterparts remain merged… not as yuya and yuzu, but in the bodies of zarc and ray.
thing is, zarc and ray’s personalities have taken each other out in her spirit’s attempt to once again seal the forces of evil. their bodies are still there, but nothing remains of their old memories or character — only the souls of their respective dimensional counterparts that suddenly find themselves thus trapped. maybe they were meant to disappear too, but the individuality they cultivated in their separate lives spared them, as whatever was in them that wasn’t of zarc and ray (and there was a surprising lot of such things after the years they spent separated and unknowing) went unharmed.
here, yuya is not the dominant personality in the least and has to struggle with the other three to reach some sort of compromise. after all, they’re lost and confused and internally divided (especially having akademia’s yuri on board) and only one can truly be in charge of their new body. they have to adapt, both to this new situation and to one another — and having four people quarrel inside one brain 24/7 really brings about the worst migraines. yuzu &co seem to be handling it more mildly, being less hotheaded and impulsive than the yu-boys, but there are a lot of tensions between them too. each wants to have the body for herself as each is desperate to rejoice with her dimensional soulmate.
ultimately, they decide to keep a schedule for switching between one another — at least for now, until they develop enough trust to do it less rigidly and more instinctively, like yuto and yuya once had. they divide the day into three equal time periods and a fourth, longer one that spans the night and they assign a personality rotation, tweaked so that yuya and yuzu are in control of the bodies in the same hours, and so do yugo and rin, yuto and ruri etc. for every time period, the remaining three personalities lie dormant, barely registering what’s going on… or do they? yuto is repulsed to witness even a glimpse of what yuri undertakes, yuri disdainfully declares that he has no intention of spiritually third-wheeling yugo and rin’s dates, yuya is still a bit afraid of remaining too conscious while yuto’s in charge, lest their personalities come together again — but it soon becomes quite plain that these mutual declarations and a schedule they all agreed upon won’t simply keep them in line either.
and there’s also the issue of how their friends and closed ones would react to the change — yuya’s mother tries to keep her eyes from filling with worry as she leans in to take a close look at zarc’s face, searching for the features of her beloved son, but finds none in the helpless expression yuto is making at her; kurosaki grasps zarc by the shoulders, shaking him and demanding to see yuto in an agitated manners that borders on panic, but all yugo can give him is a very confused stare and half-hearted apology; sora flashes zarc the coldest smile, biting down hard on his lollipop and flatly requests a duel to finally make things up between him and yuri, but yuya has no intention on fighting his friend on such hostile terms; crow extends a friendly hand to pat zarc on the shoulder as he asks him for advice on how to deal with some minor repairs that his d-wheel requires, but is not prepared to meet the hostile stare that yuri meets him with; and going into their relationships with yuzu, rin, ruri and serena would yield so much more of such misunderstandings before they all somehow learnt to cope.
