mind the trigger warnings! this one's a smaller one but it's late and I'm existing.
anyway, since I'm just intent on talking about how fucked up Lucifer is, I wanted to touch very briefly on Lucifer's self destructive tendencies. I'll talk more in depth about it later, but for now :
Lucifer not only doesn't know how to care for himself, but when days are bad, he's purposefully harming himself instead. Lucifer has a hard time getting out of his own head, so when he spirals, he's prone the self harm. this is usually in the form of scratching himself with his claws, notably his forearms. he'll try to scratch away the black of his arms to get back to the white he wishes were underneath.
he's also prone to destroying his wings, ripping out primary and secondary feathers, shredding the flesh that's normally hidden under the culverts and alula. on bad days, it wouldn't phase him to rip his wings to literal pieces.
it probably was not an uncommon sight for Lilith to find him curled up in his workshop after attacks. these episodes were probably far more frequent when he first Fell, and have become increasingly rare throughout the years. there's few people who would know of these incidents, either.
and since Lucifer still holds his angelic power, though tainted by his demonic traits, he heals much faster than almost any other being in Hell. superficial wounds seal themselves up within minutes. which means that if he wasn't caught, then it was easy to cover these instances of self harm up.
thankfully, he's grown out of that...right?

The narrator is haunted by yet another family death. His father, his brother, and now his grandmother. The narrator is pained from the reoccurrence of losing a family member which leads to a downwards spiral of painful memories. The narrator reflects on how his brother died. He remembers every specific detail so vividly. That is the problem with memories. Oftentimes, the things someone wants to forget are the memories that are so clear in a persons mind. These sections relate back to a theme that occurs throughout the novel, The narrator being emotionally closed off from the people around him. It becomes even more clear through the narrator reflecting on his past how his emotional numbness has probably stemmed from the loss of family he has had to deal with. Coping with a death is hard enough, but it is also a reminder of all the people he has lost before his grandmother. The narrator reflects on his brother’s death, describing how he “felt my knee strike something hard, a rock maybe, or a culvert, then the numbness”(113). This numbness is referring specifically to the narrators emotions. This makes me wonder if the narrator’s personality had always had a sense of alienation from the rest of the world, or if this is a new development that has worsened as the number of deaths in his family has increased. The narrator is quickly taken back to his childhood. He further describes drinking making it obvious to the reader that drinking is what he uses as a coping mechanism from all the pain he has been through in his life. This section makes me feel even worse than I already had about the narrator and his family situation, and how he feels emotionally separated from the rest of the world.

No clues to use,
no missing shoes,
just a wide open window.
Parents ponder,
wondering were could he go
without sturdy winter clothes.
They forget
all the things they said,
memories mingle
with regret,
and a fear of what is yet
to come.
How young was the sun,
how warm could he be
as his body grew numb?
Why would such a little one
let himself succumb
to the cold creeping
forever sleeping
winter ending.
Freezing
was so much more pleasing,
a releasing
of all that he was seeing,
and feeling,
better than the bitter drilling
of brutal home beatings,
and grade school cruelty.
He preferred being frosty.
Not too far from his house,
safely sitting in
a metal spiral
ditch drainage
culvert,
stifling
any shuddering,
letting each thin limb
give in
to winter’s mercy
as his revenge
against all of them.

Neighbors: Advice please?
Things have gotten pretty bad between us and our neighbor. He used to help us out and stuff, was a nice old guy. Polite and just generally pretty chill. Right up until he decided that he wanted to buy a piece of my roommates property. This property was a gift to her for graduation...so she declined. Ever since then it’s been steadily getting worse. He’d mow our lawn without asking us and if we didn’t call to thank him IMMEDIATELY after finding out he’d drunk call her parents to complain about her rudeness. He started having people show up at all hours of the day and night going up and down the driveway. We have a dog that is free run like ALL the other dogs on our road. It’s a thing. He’d nearly run her over multiple times because he refuses to use the driveway like a driveway and takes it like it’s a regular road. It was mostly just little irritating things like that we could overlook. Right up until he called us at work saying he BROKE our window. He replaced it, so fine, but it was a stupid thing because he decided to drive over a ROCK driveway with a lawn mower like it wasn’t going to launch a rock at our house. He then SET OUR YARD ON FIRE! Said he was just cleaning up the underbrush, and fine! He’s done it before, but I lost it because my DOG was outside on her lead because we didn’t give her free run that day. She’s TIED to our front porch and he set our yard on fire without so much as a how do you do AND he wasn’t even up watching it! He was out back drinking!! So I lost my temper and I think I’m justified. He tried to defend himself but I flat out told him it was unacceptable. It’s MY DOG that was chained to the porch with an unwatched fire 20 feet away from her IN A BATCH OF TREES! It’s spiraled from there. He destroyed out culvert at the end of the driveway. We told him to fix it and he BURIED IT. We put up no trespassing signs so he’d stop setting our yard on fire and he responded by dropping a load of gravel onto our yard. He’s slowly but steadily expanding out the driveway into OUR yard. I’ve tried to make my roommate talk to him because he’s encroaching on her property, but she has refused. He was DUMPING MORE GRAVEL today and was once more pushing it out into our yard and I made her come watch him do it. She went out to talk to him and he told her HE OWNED OUR DRIVEWAY! Now we have to find the property lines to show him that NO THE HELL HE DOESN’T. We gave them permission to use OUR driveway as an easement back to THEIR property as long as they maintained the driveway. Now he’s claiming he bought it from the previous owners of his land. Which is IMPOSSIBLE because they did not buy ANY land that had road access. I don’t know if my roommate is going to call him on his stuff. I doubt it because I fight her battles for her. REALLY nonconfrontational, but this isn’t something I can do for her as it’s her property.
