Horse people don’t get to take nice tropical vacations. No.

Horse people get to stay home and work around the house doing things they should have been doing all along but never have time to.

Like riding.

Cleaning.

and improvements.

All this week I have been on vacation. One of my highlights is the work getting done on the paddock.

As you might recall….

We have a major clay & mud problem.

So bad the horses would sink down to their fetlocks when around the barn area.

To get through the winter season I threw down wasted hay in the stall to keep them dry and cozy. It worked but it results in a huge headache later on.

I very much do NOT want our second winter to result in this way.

During better weather, the boys lived up on the hill so they could stay dry. They came down to get out of the bad weather but that’s about it.

Last year we busted our butts and got a lot done.

We cleared land.

We installed french drains.

We installed fencing.

We built a barn.

We housed horses and made my dreams come true.

This year I just didn’t want to work so hard.

We hired someone.

I met Dusty, owner of Northeast Tree and Lawn, who gave me a few recommendations on what we should do to rectify the excessive mud situation. As someone who has horses himself, I knew he understood what we were up against.

We then had one of the wettest springs I’ve ever seen and Dusty was working double-time to get all of his customers’ needs taken care of. We finally scheduled some time in August to do the work.

For once it was SO nice to not have to worry about major projects! I was happy to pay to get this done and Dusty was very reasonable and fair with me.

The first day Dusty came to our home with his Bobcat and removed the topsoil. He moved it down to a low wet spot at the bottom of our other paddock. Hopefully, this will help with our stream overflowing.

The following day he came with road fabric and two loads (45 tons) of stone. He and one of his guys laid the fabric and followed it up with the stone….crusher run.

The total area is about 250 sq feet….50′ x 50′ around the barn. This will give the boys a nice dry spot to stand even in inclement weather. It also serves to give me a better spot for my tack room. It doesn’t make much sense to put mud boots on just to get to the tack room.

When the stone was laid and leveled it was tamped down.

The result?

AMAZING.

As you can see Bardi knows when the camera comes out and positions himself accordingly.

I am so happy and so thankful that we found Dusty and Northeast Tree and Lawn. So happy that I let the pros handle it instead of embarking on a tedious DIY project I knew nothing about.r

It was also super helpful and amazing that Dusty knows about horses and it was clear he understood and cared about the project. Everything was left in BETTER condition than when he arrived. We needed to prune a tree to make clearance for the dump truck. He did that. He not only relocated the topsoil to our wet lowland but he also smoothed it out in hopes to improve the land there. We have a culvert to cross in order to reach the paddocks. Over time the land has begun to erode away and make the culvert more pronounced. Dusty even left that in better condition by leaving some dirt and stone to level it.

A couple days later Tractor Supply put stall mats on sale for their Labor Day sale so I grabbed a few of those to make the renovation complete. The horses will be thrilled!

I am also very eager to move everything into the tack room as originally intended!

While Dusty was busy on the Bobcat I had some time to leisurely finish my portable corral panels (The Blade Chronicles: Happy 4th and Updates).

From earlier, you may remember that these corral panels typically cost $300-800 which is utterly absurd.

I now can say that I have 5 12’x12′ portable corral stall kits. They are far from perfect but I’ve proven that it can be done. If I ever need to make more I will certainly be using 1.5″ PVC (but these I got on Facebook for $60 so prototype it is!) to ensure a more sturdy frame.

Hunting: A Competition Among Sportsmen

The ram was in no hurry. He was picking his way along the top of a ridge while my wife and I were easing up a ridge parallel to his. We were only 200 yards apart, and I wanted a good look at his horns. He seemed oblivious to our presence and never looked in our direction. Finally, he turned his head, and I saw all I needed to see.

“Cover your ears,” I said. I settled my rifle on my backpack, which I had arranged on a rock, and found a comfortable prone position. After flicking off the safety, I started the trigger squeeze when a shot rang out from far below. I saw a bullet hit two feet under the ram. The animal took one bound and disappeared. I couldn’t believe it. I was a split-second from making the shot when the other hunter fired. He was at least 600 yards away—and this was before the interest in long-range shooting. The hunter climbed up to our position and apologized. He said he hadn’t seen us, even though I was wearing a blaze orange vest. I shared a few choice words with him that I won’t repeat here.

That incident stands out as a prime example of competition among hunters. All of us compete with one another when we’re in the woods. Of course, there are exceptions, say, a dove hunt in Argentina where thousands of birds are in the air all day long and it doesn’t matter who is standing where. But by its very nature, hunting is the best where people are the fewest. Often, successful hunters are those who get into the woods first or stumble onto the quarry before someone else. Some of that competition can get downright nasty, such as the time our group slogged along in deep mud, carrying heavy loads of duck decoys to our blind far out in the marsh. Another party of hunters carried no decoys and set up just far enough from our spot where they’d get first crack at the ducks we were calling.

Because of this rivalry, hunters often go through all sorts of shenanigans to outwit others. I have a honey hole for cottontail rabbits that is truly amazing. It’s a one-acre pile of old pipe, culverts, timbers, and all sorts of miscellaneous junk discarded from a nearby oil field. It’s tucked back in a draw and holds dozens of rabbits. You can shoot a limit of 10 with a scope-sighted .22 and not walk more than 10 yards. The bunnies sit boldly in the snow where they can easily jump to safety from an incoming eagle or coyote, but they haven’t learned the perils of a speeding bullet. The only hunters I’ve taken there are visiting pals from other states who would never return without me. I’ve never taken a local hunter there for obvious reasons. One day, while driving through the oil field to my spot, I passed a truckload of local rabbit hunters. They followed me at a distance, staying with me through all the forks and turns, so I led them on a wild goose chase. After a half hour of this, I stopped at one of my lesser spots, plinked a rabbit, and continued on my way. They stopped to hunt, and I circled back to my spot, far enough away that they wouldn’t hear me shooting.

But the most elaborate scheme of trickery I’ve encountered was on public land in New Mexico where I hunted DIY elk for years. I drove down a well-used forest road and saw tents pitched at the mouth of three big draws I liked to hike up and hunt. Disappointed, I drove on to another spot and walked up the mountain. I was on a trail when I saw a hunter walking down toward me, carrying an elk quarter on his back. I congratulated him on his success, and while making small talk, I told him that there were more hunters than usual in the area and mentioned all the tents. He grinned and told me that he and his buddies had set up those empty tents to keep other hunters away. I’ll admit I had to laugh in admiration of their creativity.

Among the outdoor sports, you can be successful in crowds when the fish are running and everyone is catching them. You can enjoy camping in a crowded campground if you’re a social person and like people. But if you’re a hunter, the last thing you want to see is someone else’s pickup parked in “your” spot. As I like to say, all is fair in love, war, and hunting—maybe.

Goat Playgrounds: A Place to Play!

Goats are many things: lively, intelligent, playful, curious, useful. It’s the playfulness that can be the undoing of the novice goat-owner. Without a suitable outlet for a caprine’s rambunctious nature, that playfulness can translate into destructiveness for infrastructure and fencing. For this reason, goat playgrounds are highly recommended.

Goat playgrounds are more than just cute and amusing facilities; they are a necessary component to keep the animals’ innate curiosity and liveliness from getting out of hand and resulting in damage to property and infrastructure.

From their wild ancestors, today’s domestic goats have inherited a genetic aptitude for climbing. A caprine’s sure-footed nature means they enjoy climbing — not only to explore, but to establish hierarchy among themselves. In the absence of sheer rocky ledges, your car’s roof, a fence ledge, or your bent-over back could act as the next best thing.

Are goats smart? Yes, and due to their intelligence, caprines are easily bored and inclined to get into trouble without suitable distraction. How many goat owners have looked out the window to see their goats walking calmly along the tops of their fences? Goats are hard enough on enclosures as it is. Playgrounds distract caprines away from damaging infrastructure by providing them with somewhere besides fences (or your bent-over back) to direct their energy and curiosity.

Like any other active creature, goats need exercise, especially if they spend most of their time confined to pens. Pregnant goats benefit from exercise, as it makes them less likely to encounter problems when kidding. Active goats also require less goat hoof trimming. Some owners prefer play structures with rough surfaces to encourage proper wearing of hooves.

The Ultimate DIY Project

While goat playgrounds are available commercially, they’re easily constructed from free or inexpensive parts and can result in years of happy gamboling by your little hoofed creatures.

Some of the aspects of a play structure goats find amusing include:

Inclines

Tunnels (from barrels or culvert sections)

Bridges

Platforms

Seesaws

Stairs

Some common components of goat playgrounds can include:

Tractor tires (try half-burying them upright in the ground)

Logs (with several large tree trunks criss-crossing each other, or a collection of log rounds of different heights stacked around)

Pallets (screw boards or plywood over the pallets to cover the slats, then screw them together to form shapes)

Giant wooden cable spools from power or phone companies (stand them on their ends, screw a board patch over the hole, and fasten a cleated board from the ground to the top for climbing)

Rocks (the bigger, the better)

Cinder blocks (as connectors for boards or fulcrums for seesaws)

Old wooden tables (bury the legs so they won’t tip over)

Old children’s play structures

Old dog houses

Simple ramps and boxes can serve as toys while also giving goats an elevated surface off wet ground.

Toys are also important to alleviate boredom and keep goats engaged. Goats enjoy movable or interactive parts (including noisemakers), and are particularly intrigued by suspended items. Try hanging a tetherball from a stout rope from a branch. Give goats soccer balls or rolling plastic bottles (such as five-gallon water jugs) they can push around. A series of dangling cowbells fastened to a board provides the animals with a chance to make music. Similarly, sturdy squeaker dog toys attached to a rope or fastened to a board also makes noise. A “music jug” — a heavy-duty clean plastic jug, such as from laundry detergent — filled with rattling things such as walnuts, small stones, beads, etc., encourages goats to butt it to hear the noise.

Try filling a milk crate with hay, leaves, and treats and suspend it from a branch or beam. They’ll eat the treats, then butt and knock it around when it’s empty. Screw or glue heavy-duty scrub brushes to an upright 4×4, and the goats will use them to scratch themselves. Likewise, a doormat with rubber or fiber bristles fastened to a wall allows animals to scratch themselves.

Even sandboxes are popular options. Goats will paw and dig through the sand.

Construction Tips

Goats have a strong climbing instinct, so when constructing a goat playground, think UP. Stairs, ramps, inclines, mounds — everything should lead to a high observation point where the goat can peer down, satisfied he’s safe and secure from his perch. Make sure the playground has numerous platforms or shelves large enough to accommodate one or two animals at a time.

If you’re fortunate enough to come across a second-hand plastic or wooden child’s backyard playground, these can often be repurposed for goats. You might have to glue or screw cleats on some of the smoothest surfaces (such as slides) for goats to climb. Even small trampolines have been repurposed for goat usage.

The one unifying element of building goat playgrounds is sturdiness. Components that are in poor condition to begin with (splintery pallets, torn-up tires, spools or boards with holes or sharp edges, exposed nails or screws) might result in injury to the animals. Instead, look for materials that will stand up to years of hard use and beating from sharp little hooves. Sometimes a scrounged part can be patched (such as screwing a board over a hole). Watch out for wooden pallets, which often have slats spaced wide enough to catch slender legs. To prevent injury, screw boards or plywood over pallets to keep the goats from hurting their legs.

Bolts and nuts are useful for goat construction, since the rounded end won’t hurt the animals and the nut end can be underneath and out of reach. Screws and nails are fine, as long as the sharp end isn’t sticking out where animals can catch themselves.

If any element of a playground is too slick or slippery, then gluing or screwing cleats at intervals will allow the animals to get purchase on the surface and climb without slipping. Keep in mind what structural parts may be more slick in rainy or snowy conditions, and add safety features accordingly. Tree logs can be notched; horizontal surfaces can have sand or gravel glued down; and cleats can be spaced to allow goats to get a good grip on inclined surfaces.

When creating this playground, Marissa’s husband secured boards over any areas where wood might come apart to trap little goat hooves.

When pulling different elements of a play structure together, try making some pieces multi-functional in some way. A large tractor tire, half-buried in the ground, can serve as both a bridge and a tunnel. To anchor tires (large or small) in the ground, dig a hole deep enough to sink the tire up to the rim of the tire center (it might be helpful to drill holes into the tire so it won’t collect water), then backfill the tire with gravel or dirt.

Tires laid flat can be stacked and backfilled to make stairs and hills. Horizontal pallets can be both stairs and shelves for lying in the sun, can be stacked to make towers, or can be part of a goat shelter with room beneath. Bridges, either horizontal (joining two components) or inclined (letting the animals climb to the next level) are popular.

Some of the structural components should be scaled down to kid-size. Again, think multi-functional. For example, smaller truck-sized tires anchored in the ground can start young kids on their climbing adventures as older animals tackle the bigger tractor tires.

A Happy Goat is an Enriched Goat

According to science writer Barbara Cozzens, “In a 2001 study published in the Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, scientists compared weight gain of goats housed in traditional pens to those housed in pens that were enriched using old tires, wooden railway sleepers and PVC pipes. The results were unmistakable: Goats in the enriched pens were healthier. Eighty-three percent gained weight and a third less stopped eating. In her publication on goat enrichment, research veterinarian Dr. Sara Savage suggests, ‘Somewhere in the evolutionary development of (domestic goats), curiosity and play drive emerged as positive forces for survival.’”

With construction material virtually free, there’s no reason not to build something that will keep your goats happy, content, and non-destructive. A happy goat is an enriched goat!

It doesn’t take long to start hearing about shipping containers once you’re in the preparedness world. They commonly get brought up as buried bunkers and cellars, although there are some factors to consider on that front. Shipping containers also feature in the tiny house movement, as well as portable and resilient homes and recycling-minded markets. They have structural uses beyond homes, though, and some aspects that can make them especially attractive to preppers.

The most common sizes are 8’ and 9.5’ tall standard and high cubes, and 20’ and 40’ lengths, although seacans come in one-third and half heights and run from 8’ square cubes all the way out to 53’.

The strength in a shipping container comes from the corners and edges – the frame. Just like a cardboard box is more likely to puncture, bulge, and buckle along the flat sides than the edges and corners, the actual roof and walls of a shipping container aren’t as robust. They’re still mostly made from good steel, so we’re not talking fragile here, but they’re not load bearing.

Bulletproof Buildings (Not)

One of the things that gets passed around about shipping containers is their resistance to small arms fire. Yea and nay on that front. They are made more to be weather resistant than bullet resistant.

A .223/5.56 green tip and FMJ will pass through, as will penetrator .308/7.62 and .357 at ranges of 50 and 100 yards. None of our tests went through both sides, but the green tips did put some significant dings on the opposite wall. The connexes did stop soft tip, JHP, and round nose .45 ACP, .38 Special, .22WMR (rifle & revolver), and .30 Carbine at 50 and 100 yard ranges.

Steel T goose loads with an IM choke and #2 buck had some serious bulges at 25-30 and 50 yards, and a couple of shots had cracks around the bottom rim of the dings. It could have been the container or the specific manufacturer loads, but I wouldn’t feel real comfy saying a connex would stop them.

It was a spur-of-the-moment opportunity, so we were limited to the ammo and platforms immediately on hand. Sadly, in our universal giddiness, not even grandpa or the teenagers thought about pictures.

(Bonus: Should it ever become relevant, shovels are near-useless armor, even a trenching scoop. Total bunk. However, surprisingly lightweight backhoe buckets and snow plow blades will completely stop or divert even high-velocity green-tip rifle rounds. Cover behind those.)

If you want to test something specific see if any of the connex or metal scrap dealers near you have chunks or doors – it’s way cheaper than buying and moving a whole shipping container. Otherwise, aim for the sections you plan to cut out anyway.

There’s lots that can be done to reinforce – both bulky like sandbags, water barrels, and filled-in old tires, and less bulky like taking apart another container for the sheets. Still, if protection is the deciding factor between connexes and something else, make sure to add the associated costs of that when you weigh it out.

Buried Bunkers & Cellars

There’s a few things to consider about burying a shipping container. One, it’s going to most likely need ventilation, but they’re not air tight. Two, it requires serious reinforcing. Remember, the sides and roof don’t actually contribute to their weight-bearing capacity. Three, connexes are designed to be ocean-going and exposed, but not to be constantly inundated.

Soils hold enough moisture for that to require some additional work. Know the wet-season water table where you’re digging, for sure (for anything). It’ll affect soil movement, which can slowly twist whatever’s buried. As the soil and any pad shifts over time, the angles of pressure will change, too. Snow loads, tree roots, and the potential of somebody driving over it also have to be considered.

Depending on the purpose and size you’re going for, getting something that’s already built to be moisture tight, that’s meant to be buried and designed to take all kinds of loads and conditions, may be a more cost and labor effective option. Steel and concrete cisterns, box culverts, and round culvert have some of the same ready-to-drop aspects. Building with CMU and pouring a slab ceiling is also an option.

You’ll also want to check the hauling prices in your area – for containers and their alternatives – and make sure you have access for crane works as well as the truck if you’re hoisting (you’re probably hoisting for a bunker, but compare options). If you have to clear space, factor that into your project costs.

Housing

People of all walks are already using shipping containers for housing. While comfort may not be the driving factor in some preppers’ planning, it’s something that bears some consideration. Most connexes aren’t insulated particularly well. That drives up the real costs of owning a container home, both in today’s world and in the world(s) we’re preparing to face.

With some care in placement to increase shade and some decent ventilation, some of the heat issues can be mitigated, but heating in winter is pretty expensive. While each makes for a small area to heat, unless we insulate them – which eats up space, usually on the interior – or use something like a rocket stove connected to a thermal mass heater for a bedding or seating shelf – which is also going to eat up space – we’re going to have to heat more to keep the container warm.

One of the solutions I see proposed due to temperature are refrigerated containers. They cost about half again to twice as much as standard connexes the same size. Fridge boxes are already insulated and there’s already some venting in place that can help with cooling and warming the space, which saves labor and finding parts later. You do have to deal with their specialty flooring and the factory insulation is still eating up space. You also still have to heat or cool them to maintain comfort.

People manage with crappy, drafty cabins even in Siberia, but if you don’t have the funds for a good tent/cabin stove and enough natural resources to fuel it, even temperate areas can get downright chilly.

If you’re willing to live in camping conditions for the duration of a disaster (and potentially leading up to it) heat and cold can absolutely be countered. Still, it’s definitely something to consider if you’ve never lived in an RV, Airstream, plywood camping/trapper shack, GI tent, or older mobile home without climate control.

Maximized Storage

All of that isn’t to say I don’t like shipping containers. I actually love them. They’re more expensive than a prefab plywood or OSB shed, but they have their benefits and in my area, it’s not much more than trucking in a prefab shed with similar square footage.

They offer sturdy storage that does have ballistic resistance and strength against sudden-force hits from falling limbs and trees. They weigh enough to not get tossed around or lose roofs as often as lighter aluminum trailers or panel sheds. I’ve yet to see somebody bust a connex door with a kick or body slam, or the few good jerks I applied to a padlock latch out of frustration once (my key got stuck in the shed lock).

The strength of the frames means they can readily support roof spans. That lets us reap the storage space not only within the connexes, but also the area between two of them, or we can use a seacan for one side and only be supporting the other. Prefab roof trusses, roofing, and carports can make the expansions faster and easier or we can DIY it at a more budget-friendly price.

The other sides can be enclosed with fencing or with solid siding, be partly built up in block or brick, or be left entirely open. That inner area makes a shaded, more secure, and somewhat protected space depending on what we choose.

We can increase protection by aligning the connex(es) so they face winter winds and common summer storm directions broadside or quartered. Or, we can arrange them to maximize summer breezes to combat heat and dampness issues.

Livestock Sheds

People have successfully converted connexes into goat, cattle and donkey sheds and poultry coops. Several animal rescues and training facilities have converted them into kennels using gravel, pea stone, or concrete pads.

The non-insulated drawbacks of shipping containers also applies to livestock, though, and may limit options or require buffers. Another thing to consider is the flooring. Many have wood slat or plank floors. If wastes can’t be cleaned from those or if they stay too damp, they’ll rot. It’s not only a health risk from ammonia, mold, and mildew, but also possible injury busting through the floor.

Still, because the sheathing and slats aren’t structurally bearing, we can cut pretty much any holes we want in them. That means we can capitalize on sub-grade connexes (and their lower prices) if the damaged areas align with what we’d remove anyway.

Connex Compounds

A bunch of shipping containers make for a mighty expensive fence. Still, they’re pretty economical as a little inner castle wall. Even just one tier high they offer a somewhat elevated vantage point and they do have some ballistic protection – especially a shipping container that’s intact on the outer side, with storage on that exterior side and doors and windows on the interior.

Rooftops can be outfitted for water catchment and solar or wind collectors and easily accessed with step ladders. With some reinforcement they’re options for rooftop gardens that won’t face as much predation, and surface area for water storage. Those tanks offer increased passive drip range thanks to the elevation (water will reach further without pumps).

An inner courtyard might only be creating a safer recreation space and the mental health from being able to get outdoors during a lockdown scenario, only to increase our privacy, or increase protection for tools and equipment. The added protection also applies to fresh food sources. Even with 20’ containers that only leave a 12’ square inside, options include espalier or columnar fruit trees or shrubs, container or in-ground gardens (vertical to maximize space and production), a few rabbits and-or ducks, or an aquaponics setup.

Our inner courtyard might be surrounded entirely by containers, or containers might abut preexisting buildings. We can finish other sides or corner gaps with fencing, or we can plan to drag heavy vehicles to block them and create 360-degree cover. Other options for completing our walls include hugel mounds, raised beds, and water barrels. Small interior spaces can also be easily netted or roofed for more shade, weather protection, or privacy.

Shipping Containers

When we weigh the pros and cons of shipping containers, DIY construction, and other options like prefab sheds, RVs, and box culverts, we need to factor in not only the installation costs but also costs to provide access for the trucks that will be coming in and anything we need or want to add so it suits our purpose, such as ventilation, sump pumps, reinforcements, doors, or windows. Unless condition truly doesn’t matter, find a local-enough source that you can get your eyes on the exact shipping container you’re buying to avoid any potential problems.

A shipping container isn’t the right choice for everybody. However, standalone, roofed, or combined with each other or other structures, as-is, minor modifications, or subject to major renovation, they are a good choice for some – for far more than buried bunkers and cellars.

How To Repurpose A Galvanized Stock Tank This Summer

Last summer a trend emerged as a lot of people started using galvanized stock tanks as pools and hot tubs for their back yards. While there were some strong points being made about how practical or safe these things are, the idea of repurposing these tanks into something cool for the backyard area or for the inside of the house was actually a great one that stuck so here we are now with a bunch of cool ideas for how you too can turn a galvanized stock tank into a cool new feature with minimal effort.

The first thing that comes to mind is obviously the idea of using these metal containers as outdoor planters. There are various different shapes and sizes to choose from so pick a type based on how large or small your garden or yard is and as well as on its layout and design.

Take two or three of these galvanized stock tanks that have rounded edges and oval shapes and display them on the porch or along your house. They’re very practical because they’re durable and resilient and they also look nice, inside and out.

You can actually have a bunch of these steel tank planters lined up in your backyard or garden and all your greenery can be contained in these tanks. It’s a great option if you don’t actually have a green lawn or if you simply want to be able to rearrange and redesign your outdoor spaces quite often.

Or how about repurposing a circular steel tank into a coffee table for your living room or even for the patio? You can turn it upside down, install casters or wheels on its rim and then top it with a piece of wood, marble or some other material that you think is suited for this.

Another cool and interesting possibility is to use a galvanized tank as a sink for the bathroom. Such a feature would give the room a rustic-industrial look and the idea is actually quite easy to implement. Consider this option if you’re planning a remodel for a rustic cabin for instance.

Let’s get back outdoors because that’s where these tanks are most useful and versatile. Let’s see what else you can turn them into, besides planters. Well, you could make a steel tank water feature for your garden. It would be pretty simple and also very affordable.

There’s another funky and also ingenious idea that you might like to try this summer: a galvanized steel sheet used as an enclosure for an exterior shower. You’d have to find a pretty huge tank for that but you can also a culvert pipe if you can find out huge enough.

Of course, let’s not forget about the thing that started this whole trend: the stock tank pool. If you want you can even make a hot tub in a similar manner. Sure, there are some details to consider first but any possible disadvantage is greatly surpassed by the fact that this is a super cheap project so even if you’re only using the pool for a month or two this summer and then throw it away, it’s still worth it.

Speaking of stock tank tubs, what if you were to have one of these things placed inside your bathroom? You’d need to find the right type of tank first and then a few modifications are in place. You can leave the tank as it is or you can paint it to give it a nice, shiny white finish or a black exterior. You can find out more about this trend from purewow.

There’s also this other awesome idea that we found on thebikegarden which suggests using a galvanized tank as a rain barrel. It’s a great idea because you can collect rainwater and then use it for irrigation. Also, you can connect several if you think one isn’t enough.

Believe it or not, you can also make good use of a galvanized steel tank at a wedding or a party. Take the tank outside and fill it with ice and use it as a cooler for drinks and other things. You can decorate it or you can leave as it is and highlights its ruggedness in a cool way.
