Hello everyone and the happiest of Fridays to you! It’s a long weekend here in the UK 🇬🇧 and I’m feeling so much better than I have been so win-win! Here’s a book haul. I preordered The Sweetness Of Water when it was longlisted for the Booker prize in 2021. Landry and Prentiss are two brothers born into slavery, finally freed as the American Civil War draws to its bitter close. Cast into the world without a penny to their names, their only hope is to find work in a society that still views them with nothing but intolerance. I preordered the paperback of Cunning Women and now wish I’d plumped for the hardback, it was gorgeous! Set in 17th century Lancashire, this witchy book is “a story of loneliness, connection and female rage that fans of intensely atmospheric historical fiction will love.” Finally we have A Little Devil in America: In Praise Of Black Performance. This book of essays is a soaring and heartfelt examination of Black performance in America, in which race, history, culture, entertainment and lived experience collide. SHOP IS BACK OPEN! Thank you all for your patience this week while I was off doing house things. We got the rising damp fixed (though now we need to remove the rest of the wallpaper, paint the whole wall and have the fixeplace and one of our door frames fixed as they got damaged yay...) and we had our house viewings yesterday. Dewey’s readathons are two of our favorite days of the year. But this year we had so many conflicts for the April date that we knew we would make ourselves miserable if we tried to squeeze in our reading around them. So we picked our own Saturday to have our own private readathon. . So here is my TBR pile for the day! Unusually heavy on the library books for me, but then it was my resolution to use the library more this year! As always, I like to make my pile excessively large so that I have lots of choices.
